Abstract
Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are the chief accomplices for assisting tumor's survival and suppressing anti-tumor immunity, which can be recruited by tumor-derived cytokines, such as granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) and granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF). The plentiful lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) in glycolysis is usually accompanied by abundant tumor-derived G-CSF and GM-CSF, further promoting MDSCs recruitment and immunosuppression. Herein, with the aim to achieve powerful anti-tumor immunity, an immunochemotherapy regimen basing on a redox-responsive nanoassembly (R-mPDV/PDV/DOX/siL) is developed, which integrates the combined strategy of restraining cytokines-mediated MDSCs recruitment through LDHA silencing and reinforcing tumor immunogenicity through anthracycline (DOX)-elicited immunogenic cell death (ICD) effects. This redox-responsive nanoassembly is self-assembled by three glutathione (GSH)-responsive polymers, which employ poly(δ-valerolactone) (PVL) as hydrophobic segment and 3, 3'-dithiodipropionic acid (DA) as linkage to connect hydrophilic segment. DOX is encapsulated in the core and LDHA siRNA (siL) is effectively compressed by cationic PAMAM. The cellular internalization and tumor-homing are strengthened by the specific recognition on integrin (αvβ3) by c(RGDfk) (RGD) ligand. After escaping from endosomes/lysosomes, R-mPDV/PDV/DOX/siL is disintegrated through GSH-elicited cleavage of DA, realizing burst release of drugs and high-efficient LDHA silencing. The reduced expression of LDHA suppresses the generation of G-CSF and GM-CSF cytokines, restrains MDSCs recruitment and reinforces anti-tumor immunity. Eventually, this therapeutic regimen of DOX and siL on R-mPDV/PDV/DOX/siL nanoassembly achieved powerful anti-tumor efficiency on 4 T1 orthotopic tumor, opening the new horizons for immunochemotherapy.

Abstract
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is one of the most lethal malignant tumors, its drug resistance, immunosuppression and metastasis makes the traditional chemotherapy and immunotherapy inefficient. Here we confirmed a 3-aminophenylboronic acid-modified low molecular weight heparin-D-α-tocopheryl succinate micellar nanoparticle (PBA-LMWH-TOS NP, PLT NP) could inhibit orthotopic pancreatic tumor and its spontaneous metastases. The small particle size and high affinity of PBA to sialic acid residue (SA) made PLT/PTX NPs significantly targeted and accumulated in both pancreatic tumor tissues and metastases. The immunosuppressive microenvironment of pancreatic tumor was most caused by the infiltration of immunosuppressive cells, mainly myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs). We first reported that P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) was expressed on the surfaces of MDSCs in pancreatic tumor tissues. Meanwhile, we found that LMWH could inhibit the early stage of adhesion cascade between vascular endothelial cells (VECs) and MDSCs by interfering with P-selectin/PSGL-1 binding, thus inhibiting MDSC recruitment to pancreatic tumor tissues. The therapeutic results indicated that PLT/PTX NPs could significantly improve the immune microenvironment of pancreatic tumor and inhibit spontaneous metastases. This nanosystem provides a new immune microenvironment regulation mechanism based on carrier materials in pancreatic tumor, and has high clinical application potential.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by the outbreak of inflammation. Neutrophils, the main culprit of the outbreak of inflammation, are the first inflammatory cells to be recruited to inflamed joints and facilitate the recruitment of themselves by stimulating the release of chemokines. Here, based on neutrophils, a novel anti-inflammatory "shield and sword soldiers" strategy is established with LMWH-TOS nanoparticles (LT NPs). The hydrophilic fragment low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) acts as a shield which block the transvascular movement of neutrophils through inhibiting the adhesion cascade by binding to P-selectin on inflamed endothelium. Synergistically, MMP-9, which is secreted by the recruited neutrophils and degrade the main component of articular cartilage, is reduced by the hydrophobic fragment d-α-tocopheryl succinate (TOS), functioning as a sword. In collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mouse model, LT NPs show significant targeting effect, and exhibit prominent therapeutic efficacy after enveloping the first-line anti-RA drug methotrexate. Our work proves that the multi-stage manipulation of neutrophils is feasible and effective, providing a new concept for RA treatment.

Abstract
AIM In the study, we investigated the regulatory effects of these genes (codY, comA, degU and spo0A) on the biosynthesis of three lipopeptides (bacillomycin D, fengycin and surfactin) in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. METHODS AND RESULTS The codY, comA, degU and spo0A genes in B. amyloliquefaciens fmbJ were knocked out. The results showed that the productions of bacillomycin D were significantly reduced compared with that of fmbJ. Their deletion induced great changes in the levels of transcripts specifying metabolic pathways, quorum sensing system and substance transport system in fmbJ. Moreover, overexpression of these genes improved the productions of bacillomycin D. In particular, the overexpression of spo0A enhanced bacillomycin D yield up to 648·9 ± 60·9 mg l-1 from 277·3 ± 30·5 mg l-1 . In addition, the yields of surfactin in fmbJΔcodY and fmbJΔdegU were significantly improved, and the regulatory factor CodY had no significant effect on the synthesis of fengycin. CONCLUSIONS These genes positively regulated the expression of bacillomycin D and fengycin synthase genes in strain fmbJ. However, codY and degU negatively regulated surfactin biosynthesis. Moreover, it was found that CodY had a concentration dependence on bacillomycin D synthesis. Spo0A might play a direct regulatory role in the synthesis and secretion of bacillomycin D. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY This study indicated that genetic engineering of regulatory genes was an effective strategy to improve the yields of antimicrobial lipopeptides and provided promising strains for industrial production of lipopeptides.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We examined the structure and predictive ability of intrinsic capacity in a cohort of Chinese older adults. METHODS We used data from the MrOS and MsOS (Hong Kong) study, which was designed to examine the determinants of osteoporotic fractures and health in older Chinese adults. We analysed baseline and the 7-year follow-up data using exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and mediation analysis. RESULTS The study consisted of 3736 participants at baseline (mean 72.2 years), with 1475 in the 7-year follow-up. Bi-factor CFA revealed five sub-factors labelled as 'cognitive', 'locomotor', 'vitality', 'sensory', and 'psychological' and one general factor labelled as 'intrinsic capacity'. The model fits the data well, with Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA)=0.055 (90% CI=0.053-0.058) for the 5-factor model and RMSEA=0.031 (90% CI=0.028-0.035) for the bi-factor model. Significantly lower intrinsic capacity scores were found in older age groups, women, as well as those who had lower levels of education, lower subjective social status, reported more chronic diseases, or a higher number of IADL limitations (All p<0.0001). Intrinsic capacity had a direct effect in predicting incident IADL limitations at the 7-year follow-up (β=-0.21, p<0.001). The effect was larger than the direct effect of the number of chronic diseases on incident IADL limitations (β=0.05, not significant). CONCLUSIONS This study supports the construct and predictive validity of the proposed capacity domains of intrinsic capacity. The findings could inform the development of an intrinsic capacity score that would facilitate implementation of the concept of intrinsic capacity in clinical practice.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the association between frailty status and risk of fall among middle-aged and older Chinese people. DESIGN A nationally representative prospective cohort study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS The study included 13,877 community-dwelling participants aged 45 years and above from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. METHODS Frailty status was identified by the frailty index of health deficit accumulation. 34 variables at baseline were selected to calculate the frailty index. We excluded participants with incomplete information in construction of the frailty index at baseline. Falls were measured based on the respondents' self-report. We used a logistic regression model to estimate the associations between the frailty status and risk of fall, and subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses were further conducted. RESULTS Of 13,877 participants, 2310 (16.6%) had falls during the observation period. 9027 (65.0%) participants were classified as robust, 4019 (29.0%) participants were classified as pre-frail, and 831 (6.0%) participants were classified as frail. Our results indicated per 0.01 increment in the frailty index was significantly associated with an increased risk of fall among middle-aged and older participants (OR: 1.52, 95%CI: 1.45-1.60). Such association was stronger when frailty was presented as a categorical variable, with an OR of 1.75 (95%CI: 1.59-1.93) for pre-frail and 3.04 (95%CI: 2.60-3.56) for frail. The area under the curve of the logistic model was 0.612 (95%CI: 0.600-0.625). Each 0.01 increment of the frailty index was association with a higher risk of fall among middle-aged (45-59years) participants (OR: 1.44, 95%CI: 1.29-1.60) than among older (≥60 years) participants (OR: 1.28, 95%CI: 1.16-1.41) at baseline (p=0.015 for interaction). CONCLUSION Frailty was significantly associated with an increased risk of fall among community-dwelling middle-aged and older people in China. It is necessary to screen and recognize frailty status to prevent falls among middle-aged and older adults.

Abstract
AIM Chicory fibre (CF) is rich in fructan, which always functions as a quality dietary fibre source during mammalian pregnancy; however, its effect on reproductive performance remains unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS 40 pregnant SD rats were randomly allotted to receive one of four diets: basal diet (control group), basal diet + 5% CF, basal diet + 10% CF, and basal diet + 15% CF, respectively. We found that CF significantly increased the number born alive and total litter birth weight (P < 0·05), increased the expression of intestinal tight junction proteins, mucins and antimicrobial peptides, accompanied by the increase of villi height and the decrease of crypts depth of pregnant SD rats (P < 0·05). We also observed that CF markedly increased the acetic acid, propanoic acid, butyric acid and total SCFAs concentrations in caecum contents and promoted the expression of SCFAs-related receptors (P < 0·05). Notably, rats fed CF increased the relative abundance of Bacteroidetes (P < 0·001), decreased the relative abundance of Firmicutes and Proteobacteria, while markedly lowered the Firmicutes/ Bacteroidetes ratio (F/B ratio) (P < 0·05). Intriguingly, the number born alive and total litter birth weight were positively correlated with some probiotics and negatively correlated with other harmful bacteria by Pearson correlation analysis. CONCLUSION Collectively, CF can enhance intestinal barrier function and maintain intestinal health, and may improve reproductive performance by altering intestinal microbiota composition. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY Adding suitable dietary fibre to the diet can improve the reproductive performance of sows. Indeed, there exist various problems in the application of traditional dietary fibres, including high insoluble fibre content and anti-nutritional factor level, and mycotoxin contamination. This study demonstrates that dietary CF supplementation improves reproductive performance and intestinal health. Thus, CF can be applied in pregnancy animals as a new dietary fibre additive in animal husbandry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Autoantibodies targeting the GluN1(NR1) subunit of the anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) cause encephalitis. Although it has been shown that anti-NMDAR encephalitis is associated with human leukocyte antigen (HLA) loci, susceptibility genes for the disease outside the HLA loci remain unidentified. In this study, we aimed to explore the association of anti-NMDAR encephalitis with non-HLA genes. METHODS Two Chinese anti-NMDAR encephalitis cohorts from Han populations were recruited for this study. The North Chinese case-control set consisted of 98 patients and 460 controls, while the South Chinese case-control set included 78 patients and 541 controls. All participants were genotyped for 28 single nucleotide polymorphisms that are associated with autoimmune disorders or infectious diseases. RESULTS In two independent case-control sets, we identified significant associations of anti-NMDAR encephalitis with IRF7 rs1131665 (odds ratio [OR] 3.34, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.99-5.63; P < 0.000001, Padjusted = 0.00004), BANK1 rs4522865 (OR 1.44, 95% CI 1.15-1.82; P = 0.0017, Padjusted = 0.0149), and TBX21 rs17244587 (OR 2.03, 95% CI 1.35-3.05; P = 0.00051, Padjusted = 0.0066). Furthermore, analysis of the three polymorphisms with clinical features of the disease revealed that the IRF7 rs1131665 was associated with tumor status. CONCLUSION The present study has for the first time identified non-HLA susceptibility genes for anti-NMDAR encephalitis. The association of IRF7, BANK1 and TBX21 with anti-NMDAR encephalitis suggests that B-cell activation, Th1 responses, virus infection and the type I interferon signaling pathway are involved in the pathogenesis of the disease.

Background
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia of clinical significance. Recent evidence suggests differences in epidemiology and risk factors of AF between women and men. Obesity and body size are established risk factors for AF. However, anthropometric measures tend to change over time. Few studies have investigated the impact of longitudinal changes in anthropometric measures on incident AF among men and women.
Purpose
To assess the association between longitudinal changes in different anthropometric measures and new-onset AF among community-dwelling men and women.
Methods
Among 12,848 participants free of AF at baseline were included in this large prospective population-based cohort study, each anthropometric measure was measured at least once and up to five times. Anthropometric measures included weight, height, waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), waist to hip ratio (WHR), and body mass index (BMI). Anthropometric measures were standardized for direct comparisons. Joint models were used to assess the association of each anthropometric factor and their longitudinal changes with incident AF. Models were adjusted for age and traditional cardiovascular risk factors.
Results
A total of 5,266 men and 7,218 women (mean age 63.87 years for men and 64.94 years for women) were followed up for a median of 10.5 years. AF occurred in 630 (12.0%) men and 692 (8.7%) women. Longitudinal increases in weight, height, WC, HC and BMI increased the risk for new-onset AF in a linear manner. The age-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were 1.38 (1.26–1.51) for weight, 1.41 (1.26–1.59) for height, 1.26 (1.13–1.41) for WC, 1.36 (1.19–1.55) for HC and 1.22 (1.11–1.35) for BMI among men. Among women, the age-adjusted HRs (95% CI) were 1.41 (1.30–1.52) for weight, 1.21 (1.07–1.38) for height, 1.39 (1.27–1.52) for WC, 1.29 (1.19–1.40) for HC and 1.28 (1.19–1.37) for BMI. Further, longitudinal increase in WHR was significantly associated with increased risk of AF in women [HR (95% CI): 1.42 (1.21–1.66)] but not in men [HR (95% CI): 1.11 (0.96–1.30)].
Conclusions
Longitudinal changes in anthropometric measures were associated with the increased risk for new-onset AF among men and women in the general population. An increase in measures of central obesity over time showed a stronger association with incident AF among women, compared to men. Our findings underscore the importance of a sex-specific approach for screening and monitoring of anthropometric measures for AF prevention.

Abstract
PURPOSE X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is the most common inherited renal phosphate wasting disorder and is often misdiagnosed as vitamin D deficiency. This study aims to provide clinical and mutational characteristics of 65 XLH pediatric patients in southern China. METHODS In this work, a combination of DNA sequencing and qPCR analysis was used to study the PHEX gene in 80 pediatric patients diagnosed with hypophosphatemia. The clinical and laboratory data of confirmed 65 XLH patients were assessed and analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS In 65 XLH patients from 61 families, 51 different variants in the PHEX gene were identified, including 23 previously reported variants and 28 novel variants. In this cohort of XLH patients, the c.1601C>T(p.Pro534Leu) variant appears more frequently. Fourteen uncommon XLH cases were described, including four boys with de novo mosaic variants, eight patients with large deletions and a pair of monozygotic twins. The clinical manifestations in this cohort are very similar to those previously reported. CONCLUSION This study extends the mutational spectrum of the PHEX gene, which will contribute to accurate diagnosis. Abstract
Chemotherapy agents have been widely used for cancer treatment, while the insolubility, instability and toxicity seriously restrict their efficacy. Thus, prodrug strategy was devised. Since some prodrugs are still with poor solubility or stability, a synergy strategy is needed to enhance their efficacy. Gemcitabine (GEM) is a prescribed anticancer drug, however, the rapid clearance, growing resistance and serious side effects limit its clinical efficacy. Conjugating GEM with d-α-tocopherol succinate (TOS) is an effective solution, while the GEM-TOS (GT) is unstable in aqueous solution. d-α-Tocopherol polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS) has been used to enhance the stability, but GT stabilized by TPGS (GTT) has limited effect on tumor metastases. Tumor metastases lead to high mortality in patients suffering from cancers. In order to further achieve antimetastatic effect, an amphiphilic polymer (LT) was synthesized by connecting low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) with TOS, and eventually obtained desired self-delivery micellar NPs (GLT) by co-assembly GT with LT. The GLT not only possessed excellent stability, but also inhibited the metastases by acting on different phases of the metastatic cascade. The hydrophobic TOS inhibited the secretion of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), the hydrophilic LMWH inhibited the interaction between tumor cells and platelets. As a result, GLT reduced tumor cells entering the blood and implanting at the distant organs, leading to a much more excellent inhibitory effect on the lung metastasis than GEM and GTT.

Abstract
In this paper, the magnetization dynamics of bilayer structured nano-pillars containing a fixed layer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and a free layer with in-plane magnetic anisotropy (IMA) are studied using the micro-magnetic simulation method. Unlike typical sandwich-structured spin-torque nano-pillar oscillators (STNOs), the proposed structure does not contain any nonmagnetic spacer layer. It is found that a stable oscillation with a significant amplitude can be established fast after driving out the vortex core by an in-plane magnetic pulse field. The oscillation frequency and amplitude can be easily manipulated by adjusting the side-length of the nanopillar, the thickness and saturation magnetization of the IMA layer, and an applied magnetic field along z axis. In an array with an adequate inter-pillar distance, the mutual interaction between the nano-pillars will lead the oscillations to be phase-locked, resulting in a considerable enhancement of total amplitude. As it is easy to fabricate these kinds of bi-layer nano-pillars and assemble them in arrays, they may have widespread applications in STNOs.

Abstract
The glacial phase, with an apparently glassy structure, can be formed by a first-order transition in some molecular-glass-forming supercooled liquids. Here we report the formation of metallic glacial glass (MGG) from the precursor of a rare-earth-element-based metallic glass via the first-order phase transition in its supercooled liquid. The excellent glass-forming ability of the precursor ensures the MGG to be successfully fabricated into bulk samples (with a minimal critical diameter exceeding 3 mm). Distinct enthalpy, structure, and property changes are detected between MGG and metallic glass, and the reversed "melting-like" transition from the glacial phase to the supercooled liquid is observed in fast differential scanning calorimetry. The kinetics of MGG formation is reflected by a continuous heating transformation diagram, with the phase transition pathways measured at different heating rates taken into account. The finding supports the scenario of liquid-liquid transition in metallic-glass-forming liquids.

Abstract
Chemoimmunotherapy-induced antitumor immune response is highly dependent on tumor autophagy. When tumor cells are treated with chemoimmunotherapy, timely overactivated autophagy can not only lead more tumor cells to death, but also participate in the endogenous antigen presentation and immune stimulators secretion of dying cells, thus plays a vital role. However, timely and accurately overactivated tumor autophagy during chemoimmunotherapy is of great difficulty. Here, an on-demand autophagy cascade amplification nanoparticle (ASN) is reported to boost oxaliplatin-induced cancer immunotherapy. ASN is prepared by self-assemble of autophagy-responsible C-TFG micelle and is followed by electrostatic binding of oxaliplatin prodrug (HA-OXA). After entering tumor cells, the HA-OXA shell of ASN first responds to the reduction microenvironment and releases oxaliplatin to trigger tumor immunogenic cell death and mildly stimulates tumor autophagy. Then, the exposed C-TFG micelle can sensitively respond to oxaliplatin-induced autophagy and release a powerful autophagy inducer STF-62247, which precisely transforms autophagy to "overactivated" condition, leading tumor cells to autophagic death and enhance subsequent tumor antigen processing of the dying cells. In CT26 tumor-bearing mice, ASN exhibits optimal immune stimulation and antitumor efficiency due to its on-demand autophagy induction ability.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the longitudinal associations between maternal total bile acid (TBA) levels during early mid-pregnancy and the subsequent risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). METHODS In a prospective cohort study, pregnant women who were enrolled prior to gestational week 16 were followed until delivery. TBA levels were tested during weeks 14-18 of gestation. Using logistic regression, we analyzed the associations between quartiles of TBA and GDM based on a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 24-28 gestational weeks. RESULTS The GDM rate was 7.9% (114/1441). The mean TBA level was higher in women with GDM than in those without GDM (2.1 ± 2.0 vs 1.5 ± 1.0 µmol/L, P = 0.000). The highest TBA level quartile (2.1-10.7 µmol/L) had a 1.78-fold (95% CI 1.01, 3.14) increased risk of GDM compared with that of the lowest quartile (0.0-0.8 µmol/L) after adjusting for pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), gestational, age at TBA test and other confounders. High TBA levels were involved in the fasting glucose level rather than that at 1 h and 2 h after OGTT in all participants. CONCLUSIONS Pregnant women with higher serum TBA levels during early mid-pregnancy have a higher risk of developing GDM. TBA may be a new risk factor for GDM.

Abstract
Yeast bioactives (YB) may stimulate broiler breeders (BB) to increase deposition of immunoglobulins (Ig) in eggs. We investigated the effects of feeding YB (mixture of derivatives from whole yeast subjected to enzymatic hydrolysis) to BB and/or their offspring on growth performance, gut development, and immune function in broiler chickens challenged with Eimeria. The BB (Ross 708 ♀ and Ross ♂) were assigned to 2 groups (60 ♀ and 10 ♂) and fed basal or basal diet supplemented with 500 g of YB/Mt. A total of 250 fertile eggs per treatment were collected, incubated, hatched, and sexed. Additional egg samples were analyzed for IgA and IgY contents. A total of 160 broiler chicks (80 ♀ and 80 ♂) from each breeder experimental group were placed in cages based on sex and BW resulting in 32 cages for each BB treatment group. Cages (16 per BB treatment group) were allocated to basal broiler chick diet or basal diet supplemented with 500 g of YB/Mt. On day 9, half of each BB by broiler chick dietary treatments was challenged with 1 mL of Eimeria culture (100,000 oocysts of Eimeria acervulina and 25,000 oocysts of Eimeria maxima). On day 14, all birds were necropsied for intestinal lesion scores and samples. Feeding YB to BB increased (P < 0.05) IgA concentration in egg yolk. Eimeria challenge decreased (P < 0.05) pancreas weight, jejunal villus height (VH), and growth performance but increased spleen weight, intestinal mass and jejunal mucosa IgA concentration. Independent of Eimeria challenge, feeding YB to BB and/or to chicks resulted in higher (P < 0.001) jejunal VH compared with feeding it to BB only or not at all. In conclusion, Eimeria challenge reduced growth performance and had negative effects on indices of intestinal function and health. Feeding YB to BB increased deposition of IgA in hatching eggs and improved jejunal VH independent of Eimeria challenge when fed to BB and/or to broiler chicks.

Abstract
Distal metastases of tumors result from the interaction between "seeds" (circulating tumor cells, CTCs) and "soil" (premetastatic niche, PMN). Various strategies focus on CTC inhibition, but only a few strategies inhibit PMN formation. The main predisposition of PMN formation in melanoma lies in the pulmonary recruitment of granulocytic myeloid-derived suppressor cells (G-MDSCs, CD11b+Ly6G+ cells) induced by tumors, which increase vascular permeability by secreting matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and result in immunosuppression by secreting interleukin-10 (IL-10) in premetastatic lungs. Here, a micellar hypotoxic low molecular weight heparin-tocopherol succinate nanoparticle (LMWH-TOS nanoparticle, LT NP) was established and investigated for its influence on PMN formation in this study. We first demonstrated that the hydrophilic segment LMWH in LT NPs can inhibit early pulmonary recruitment of G-MDSCs through interrupting their extravasation by inhibiting P-selectin/PSGL-1-mediated adhesion between vascular endothelial cells and G-MDSCs. In addition, the hydrophobic segment (TOS) in LT NPs significantly inhibited the expression of MMP-9 in G-MDSCs. As a result, the drug-free nanoparticles could maintain the normal microenvironment of lungs, thus effectively inhibiting implantation and colonization of CTCs. Further, phenylboronic acid (PBA)-modified and doxorubicin/immunopotentiator α-galactosylceramide (αGC)-coloaded nanoparticles (PLT/DOX/αGC NPs) were exploited. PBA modification achieved targeted chemotherapy by binding to overexpressed sialic acid residues on the tumor cell surface. This nanosystem effectively inhibited the postoperative metastasis and tumor recurrence simultaneously. Our work provides a proof of concept that the prevention of PMN formation through interfering G-MDSCs with self-delivery nanosystems is a safe and effective antimetastasis strategy.

Abstract
Polycyclic heavy hydrocarbons (HHs) such as coal, tar, and pitch are a family of materials with extremely rich and complex chemistry, representing a massive opportunity for their use in a range of potential applications. The present work shows that optimal selection of initial HHs based on molecular constituents is essential in tuning the material for a particular and targeted electronic application. Combining the selection of feedstock chemistry (H:C and aromatic content) and controlling variable laser treatment parameters (laser power, speed, and focus) lead to full control over the H:C ratio, sp2 concentration, and degree of graphitic stacking order of the products. The broad intertunability of these factors results from a wide distribution of carbon material crystallinity from amorphous to highly graphitic and a broad distribution of electrical conductivity up to 103 S/m.

Abstract
The dynamic behaviors of a domain wall (DW) pinned by a notch pair or a single notch with different notch depths are studied. It is found that, in a relatively large current density range, the oscillation frequency of the DW becomes frozen and independent of current density when pinned by a notch pair with a notch depth larger than 12 nm. The current density range for freezing the frequency can be tuned by the notch depth. A chain of notch pairs is designed to introduce more pinned DWs into the nanowire. By increasing the number of DWs and applying a proper magnetic field, the oscillation amplitude can be greatly enhanced. Our finding suggests that nanowires with a series of deep notch pairs may have an important application in the development of DW based spin-transfer nano-oscillators with a high tolerance for current fluctuation.

Abstract
Our objective was to develop and validate a tool integrating a disposable fluorescence-based lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) coupled with a portable imaging device for estimating circulating plasma concentrations of progesterone (P4). First, we developed and optimized a competitive LFIA test strip to measure P4 in bovine plasma. The LFIA design included a sample pad, a conjugate pad that stores R-phycoerythrin-anti-P4 conjugates, a glass-fiber spacer pad, a nitrocellulose membrane with printed test and control lines, and a cellulose-fiber absorbent pad. To perform a test, 20 µL of plasma and 50 µL of running buffer were added on the sample pad. After 3 min, 45 µL of running buffer was added to initiate sample flow. After allowing 15 min to stabilize the colorimetric signal, strips were introduced in an LFIA portable reader wirelessly linked to a laptop to determine P4 concentration based on test-to-control-line signal (T/C ratio). In a series of experiments (n = 6), the ability of the LFIA to differentiate plasma samples with ≥1 or <1 ng/mL of P4 was evaluated. For each experiment, a calibration curve was constructed using plasma with known concentrations of P4 (0.1 to 3.7 ng/mL; n = 5). The resulting linear equation was then used to determine a T/C ratio cutoff to differentiate samples with ≥1 or <1 ng/mL of P4. In addition, to evaluate the ability of the platform to assign samples to P4 concentration groups without a calibration curve for individual batches, we performed a receiver operating characteristic analysis to identify a single cutoff value for T/C ratio that could potentially be used for all batches. Overall, calibration curves showed a linear relationship between T/C ratio and P4 levels (mean coefficient of determination = 0.74; range 0.42 to 0.99). Next, plasma samples from lactating dairy cows (n = 58) were tested in triplicate to determine the ability of the LFIA system to differentiate plasma samples with ≥1 or <1 ng/mL of P4 using a RIA for P4 as reference test. Overall, the LFIA assay correctly classified 90% of the samples, with 97% sensitivity, 83% specificity, 85% positive predictive value, and 96% negative predictive value. Agreement between the tests was substantial (kappa = 0.79; 95% confidence interval 0.64 to 0.95). When using a single cutoff value for T/C ratio selected by receiver operating characteristic analysis, sensitivity and specificity to determine CL presence were 97 (95% confidence interval 82 to 99) and 79% (95% confidence interval 60 to 92), respectively. These data suggest that the developed portable LFIA system can accurately differentiate plasma samples with ≥1 or <1 ng/mL of P4.
