Abstract
This paper addresses the localization of spatially distributed sources from interictal epileptic electroencephalographic data after a tensor-based preprocessing. Justifying the Canonical Polyadic (CP) model of the space-time-frequency and space-time-wave-vector tensors is not an easy task when two or more extended sources have to be localized. On the other hand, the occurrence of several amplitude modulated spikes originating from the same epileptic region can be used to build a space-time-spike tensor from the EEG data. While the CP model of this tensor appears more justified, the exact computation of its loading matrices can be limited by the presence of highly correlated sources or/and a strong background noise. An efficient extended source localization scheme after the tensor-based preprocessing has then to be set up. Different strategies are thus investigated and compared on realistic simulated data: the "disk algorithm" using a precomputed dictionary of circular patches, a standardized Tikhonov regularization and a fused LASSO scheme.

Abstract
Intravenous leiomyomatosis (IVL) is a rare benign condition characterized by the proliferation of smooth muscle cells originating from either the uterine venous wall or a uterine myoma. This leiomyomatosis extends most frequently to pelvic vessels, but also occasionally into the inferior vena cava and right cardiac chambers. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult and it should be suspected in the presence of cardiac or pelvic masses in women who have undergone hysterectomy or myomectomy previously. The treatment is hysterectomy, normally associated with a bilateral oophorectomy and removing the mass or metastasis if any. The post-surgical follow-up should be performed at long-term and include exploration and imaging, either ultrasound or MRI. The association of antiestrogenic drugs can be useful for disease control, especially in cases where oophorectomy is not performed and the tumor cannot be removed completely.

Simulated lesion, human observer performance comparison between thin-section dedicated breast CT images versus computed thick-section simulated projection images of the breast. Abstract
The objective of this study was to compare the lesion detection performance of human observers between thin-section computed tomography images of the breast, with thick-section (>40 mm) simulated projection images of the breast. Three radiologists and six physicists each executed a two alterative force choice (2AFC) study involving simulated spherical lesions placed mathematically into breast images produced on a prototype dedicated breast CT scanner. The breast image data sets from 88 patients were used to create 352 pairs of image data. Spherical lesions with diameters of 1, 2, 3, 5, and 11 mm were simulated and adaptively positioned into 3D breast CT image data sets; the native thin section (0.33 mm) images were averaged to produce images with different slice thicknesses; average section thicknesses of 0.33, 0.71, 1.5 and 2.9 mm were representative of breast CT; the average 43 mm slice thickness served to simulate simulated projection images of the breast. The percent correct of the human observer's responses were evaluated in the 2AFC experiments. Radiologists lesion detection performance was significantly (p < 0.05) better in the case of thin-section images, compared to thick section images similar to mammography, for all but the 1 mm lesion diameter lesions. For example, the average of three radiologist's performance for 3 mm diameter lesions was 92% correct for thin section breast CT images while it was 67% for the simulated projection images. A gradual reduction in observer performance was observed as the section thickness increased beyond about 1 mm. While a performance difference based on breast density was seen in both breast CT and the projection image results, the average radiologist performance using breast CT images in dense breasts outperformed the performance using simulated projection images in fatty breasts for all lesion diameters except 11 mm. The average radiologist performance outperformed that of the average physicist observer, however trends in performance were similar. Human observers demonstrate significantly better mass-lesion detection performance on thin-section CT images of the breast, compared to thick-section simulated projection images of the breast.

Abstract
This study aims to analyze the autonomic nervous system response during head-up tilt test (HUTT), by exploring the changes in dynamic properties of heart rate variability in subjects with and without syncopes, to predict the outcome of HUTT. Baroreflex response, as well as linear and non-linear parameters of RR-interval time series, have been extracted from the ECG of 66 subjects: 35 with and 31 without syncope during HUTT. The results show that, when considering the first 15 min of tilting position, the total power spectrum, the standard deviation, the long-term fractal scale of RR-interval and ΔRR-interval of time series increase, while the sample entropy decreases in the positive group compared to the negative one. These indices may be good predictors of positive response in patients with reflex syncope. Additionally, an analysis of the first 15 min of tilting position using kernel support vector machines leads to a correct classification of 85% of patients, within negative and positive response groups (specificity = 80.6% and sensitivity = 88.5%). In medical applications, it is important to avoid false negative diagnosis of syncopes during HUTT. Taking this into account, an overall accuracy of 72.1% can be obtained in the same window allowing the reduction of the examination time in the clinical domain.

Abstract
Aim Disruption to insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signalling pathways during early life causes growth retardation and defects of developing metabolic organs that can alter set points of energy homeostasis for a lifetime. Inheritance of two maternal copies of human chromosome 14q32.2 (Temple syndrome) causes severe foetal growth retardation and post-natal failure to thrive. Disruption of imprinted gene dosage in the orthologous region on mouse chromosome 12 also affects growth. Here, we investigated whether altering chromosome 12-imprinted gene dosage can affect IGF signalling. Methods We investigated mice with a transgene insertion at the imprinted domain of chromosome 12. This lesion causes misexpression of neighbouring genes such that the expression of non-coding RNAs is elevated, and levels of delta-like homologue 1 (Dlk1), retrotransposon-like 1 (Rtl1) and deiodinase 3 (Dio3) transcripts are reduced. Results We observed three key phenotypes in these mice: (i) embryonic growth retardation associated with altered expression of IGF1 binding proteins, (ii) peri-natal failure to thrive accompanied by hypothyroidism and low serum IGF1. Unexpectedly this phenotype was growth hormone independent. (iii) Adult animals had reduced glucose tolerance as a result of endocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Conclusions We propose that all of these phenotypes are attributable to impaired IGF action and show for the first time that the chromosome 12 cluster in the mouse is an imprinted locus that modulates the IGF signalling pathway. We propose that growth retardation observed in human Temple syndrome might have a similar cause.
