Abstract
Microbial infection accounts for many dental diseases and treatment failure. Therefore, the antibacterial properties of dental biomaterials are of great importance to the long-term results of treatment. Silver-based biomaterials (AgBMs) have been widely researched as antimicrobial materials with high efficiency and relatively low toxicity. AgBMs have a broad spectrum of antimicrobial properties, including penetration of microbial cell membranes, damage to genetic material, contact killing, and dysfunction of bacterial proteins and enzymes. In particular, advances in nanotechnology have improved the application value of AgBMs. Hence, in many subspecialties of dentistry, AgBMs have been researched and employed, such as caries arresting or prevention, root canal sterilization, periodontal plaque inhibition, additives in dentures, coating of implants and anti-inflammatory material in oral and maxillofacial surgery. This paper aims to provide an overview of the application approaches of AgBMs in dentistry and present better guidance for oral antimicrobial therapy via the development of AgBMs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the bacterial diversity in peri-implant plaques and the effect of periodontitis history on the occurrence of peri-implant mucositis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three groups of subgingival plaques were collected from peri-implant sulci in the first molar area. The three groups included healthy implants in patients without periodontitis (NH implant), healthy implants in patients with periodontitis history (PH implant), and peri-implant mucositis implants in patients with periodontitis history (PM implant). Subgingival plaques in periodontal pockets of contralateral natural first molars were also collected. Bacterial DNA was extracted and the V4 region of the 16S rDNA sequence was amplified and sequenced on an Illumina HiSeq platform. The operational taxonomic units obtained from amplicon sequencing were used to analyze the prevalence and identity of bacteria based on public databases and advanced techniques. RESULTS Analysis of similarities indicated a significant difference in bacterial structures between the NH implant and PM implant groups. Additionally, a significantly higher relative abundance of the genera Actinomyces and Streptococcus was found in the samples of the NH implant group. The genera Fusobacterium and Prevotella could be considered as potential biomarkers for peri-implant mucositis. Moreover, more gram-negative anaerobic bacteria (Porphyromonas and Prevotella) were detected in the samples from patients with periodontitis history. CONCLUSIONS The increased accumulation of Fusobacterium and Prevotella is associated with a higher risk of peri-implant mucositis. In addition, patients with periodontal history may be more likely to develop peri-implant mucositis. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The increase in periodontal pathogens and the decrease in health-associated bacteria in patients with periodontitis history may be more likely to develop peri-implant mucositis. These results provide a bacteriological basis for the prevention and treatment of peri-implant mucositis in patients with periodontitis history.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the epidemiological characteristics of three local COVID-19 epidemics in Guangzhou and provide reference for optimizing strategies and measures of COVID-19 prevention and control. Methods: The data of local COVID-19 cases in Guangzhou reported as of June 18, 2021 were collected from National Notifiable Disease Report System of China. The software Excel 2019 and SPSS 22.0 were applied for data cleaning and statistical analysis. Results: A total of 726 COVID-19 cases were reported in the three local epidemics in Guangzhou. In the epidemic associated with the outbreak of COVID-19 in Hubei province, 366 cases were reported. Most cases were female (51.6%, 189/366), aged 18-65 years (81.4%, 298/366), jobless/unemployed (32.2%, 118/366) and retired persons (20.2%,74/366). The initial symptoms of most cases were fever (71.6%, 250/349) and cough (60.7%, 212/349). In the epidemic associated with the imported COVID-19 cases from Africa, 207 cases were reported. Most cases were aged 18-40 years (72.9%, 151/207), male (69.6%, 144/207), and engaged in commercial services (62.3%,129/207). The initial symptoms of most cases were no obvious discomfort (55.6%, 15/27) and cough (37.0%, 10/27). In the epidemic associated with Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, 153 cases were reported, in which women accounted for 58.8% (90/153), most cases were over 41 years old (64.7%,99/153), and retired persons accounted for the highest proportion (32.0%,49/153). The initial symptoms of most cases were cough (32.9%, 48/146) and no obvious discomfort (28.1%, 41/146). The household secondary attack rates of the three local epidemics were 11.2%, 5.7% and 11.5%, respectively. The median (P25, P75) of incubation periods were 6.5 (4.0,10.8) d, 4.0 (2.5, 6.0) d and 4.0 (3.0,5.0) d. The serial intervals median (P25, P75) were 4.0 (3.0, 8.0) d, 4.0 (2.5, 6.0) d and 3.0 (2.0,5.0) d. There were significant differences in gender, age, occupation, initial symptoms, household secondary attack rate and incubation period among the three local COVID-19 epidemics (all P<0.05). In the proportion of the case finding way, passive detection in patient treatment were mainly 44.3%(162/366) in the epidemic associated with the outbreak of COVID-19 in Hubei province,but active community case screening [58.5% (121/207) and 27.5% (24/153)] and close contact management in imported case were mostly [33.3% (69/207) and 67.3% (103/153)] in the epidemic associated with the imported COVID-19 cases from Africa and with Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, respectively. Conclusions: Due to the different sources of infection, strain types and prevention and control strategies, the epidemiological characteristics of the three local COVID-19 epidemics in Guangzhou differed in demographics, clinical symptoms, transmission routes and case finding, which suggested that it is necessary to improve the key population and common symptom monitoring in the routine prevention and control of COVID-19 to prevent the reemerge of the epidemic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of implant-supported zirconia crowns with various vent designs on the marginal excess cement (MEC) and retention values under different cement application patterns. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cercon zirconia crowns (n = 36) were divided into the following groups: no venting (NV group), a small occlusal vent hole (SOV group), a large occlusal vent hole (LOV group), and a small palatal-occlusal vent hole (SPV group). The cement was applied to the crowns with different methods: occlusally half axial walls (OH), cervically half axial walls (CH) and all axial walls (AA), and different amounts of cement were applied with a chosen method. The weight of the MEC was calculated, and the retention force was recorded. ANOVA was used to analyze the MEC weights and retention values. RESULTS In all vented groups, the OH application method resulted in no MEC and the least retention force, and the AA method expressed significantly less MEC (p < 0.01) than the CH method without retention force reduction. At each amount of cement (5, 10, 20, 30 mg), all three venting designs significantly reduced the MEC by the AA method, and the mean MEC of the LOV group was lower than that of any other group. CONCLUSIONS Applying a thin layer of cement evenly to all axial walls of vented zirconia crowns showed excellent clinical effects regarding the MEC and the retention force. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Residual excess cement was identified as a possible risk indicator for peri-implant diseases. Simply and effectively minimizing marginal extrusions without reducing the retention force has clinical value. The results of this study indicate that applying a thin layer of cement evenly to all axial walls of vented zirconia crowns is an acceptable method.

Abstract
This study explored and compared the influence of graphite, graphene, and graphene oxide (GO) on the performance of anaerobic co-digestion fed with sewage sludge and food waste, the variations of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and the evolution of microbial community. Graphene exhibited the best performance for improving methane production and organic degradation, which increased by 36.09% and 23.07% compared with control group. The experimental results showed that graphene had the greatest influence on the removal efficiency of blaOXA-1, macrolide resistance genes (ermF and ermB), and some tetracycline resistance genes (tetQ and tetX); however, the removal efficiency of sulfonamide resistance genes (sul1 and sul2), intI1, and some tetracycline resistance genes (tetM, tetO, and tetW) were highest when GO was added. Network analysis indicated that the host cells of mefA, ermB, and tetO were different from other ARG host cells; moreover, graphene controlled the horizontal transfer of ARGs between microbial communities.

Abstract
The recurrence of osteosarcoma (OS) after reconstruction using Ti6Al4V prostheses remains a major problem in the surgical treatment of OS. Modification of the surfaces of Ti6Al4V prostheses with antitumor functions is an important strategy for improving therapeutic outcomes. Magnesium (Mg) coating has been shown to be multifunctional: it exhibits osteogenic and angiogenic properties and the potential to inhibit OS. In this study, we determined the proper concentration of released Mg2+ with respect to OS inhibition and biosafety and evaluated the anti-OS effects of Mg-coated Ti6Al4V scaffolds. We found that the release of Mg2+ during short-term and long-term degradation could significantly inhibit the proliferation and migration of HOS and 143B cells. Increased cell apoptosis and excessive autophagy were also observed, and further evidence of AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 signaling pathway activation was obtained both in vitro and in vivo, which suggested that the biofunctional scaffolds induce OS inhibition. Our study demonstrates the ability of an Mg coating to inhibit OS and may contribute to the further application of Mg-coated Ti6Al4V prostheses. Multifunctional Mg coating is considerable surface modification for Ti6Al4V prostheses. Mg2+ releasing by the scaffolds could significantly inhibit the proliferation and migration of OS cells. The biofunctional scaffolds could inhibit OS by activating autophagy-dependent apoptosis. The AMPK/mTOR/ULK-1 pathway was involved in autophagy-depended apoptosis induced by the scaffolds.

Abstract
Organic dyes can enter water bodies through industrial wastes and may pose a threat to the health of aquatic organisms and human. Metal organic framework derived carbon materials (CMOFs) have shown excellent performance for aqueous dye adsorption. However, few have studied multimetallic CMOFs for dye removal. Herein, a ternary metal oxide embedded carbon derived from amino-modified metal organic framework (CMOF(Fe/Al/Ni 8/7/5)-NH2) has been developed as an efficient adsorbent to remove aqueous methylene blue (MB) and acid red 73 (AR-73). CMOF(Fe/Al/Ni 8/7/5)-NH2 reached adsorption equilibrium for both MB and AR-73 within 30 min at neutral pH condition. It also achieved 18 and 24 times higher adsorption than commercial activated carbon (AC) in 10 min for MB and AR-73, respectively. Compared to other CMOFs-NH2, CMOF(Fe/Al/Ni 8/7/5)-NH2 had the highest adsorption capacity for both cationic MB and anionic AR-73. In addition, CMOF(Fe/Al/Ni 8/7/5)-NH2 had < 0.15% metal leaching in 90 min in the pH range of 4-10, and it also maintained 89% and 95% adsorption capacity for MB and AR-73 in five consecutive adsorption batches, respectively. Electrostatic interaction was identified as the primary interaction between CMOFs-NH2 and the dyes, and the embedded crystalline metal oxides with different points of zero charge (PZCs) were identified to be the key adsorption sites. A uniformly distributed surface charge model was proposed to explain the exceptional adsorption capacity of CMOF(Fe/Al/Ni 8/7/5)-NH2. With fast kinetics, high adsorption capacity, wide applicability and good stability, CMOF(Fe/Al/Ni 8/7/5)-NH2 may be an effective adsorbent for many other ionic organic pollutants.

Abstract
mediated cancer therapy has achieved remarkable anti-tumor effects in experimental animal models, but the detailed mechanism remains unsolved. In this report, the active involvement of the host immune response in this process was confirmed by comparing the tumor-suppressive effects of Salmonella in immunocompetent and immunodeficient mice bearing melanoma allografts. Since flagella are key inducers of the host immune response during bacterial infection, flagella were genetically disrupted to analyse their involvement in Salmonella-mediated cancer therapy. The results showed that flagellum-deficient strains failed to induce significant anti-tumor effects, even when more bacteria were administered to offset the difference in invasion efficiency. Flagella mainly activate immune cells via Flagellin/Toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) signalling pathway. Indeed, we showed that exogenous activation of TLR5 signalling by recombinant Flagellin and exogenous expression of TLR5 both enhanced the therapeutic efficacy of flagellum-deficient Salmonella against melanoma. Our study highlighted the therapeutic value of the interaction between Salmonella and the host immune response through Flagellin/TLR5 signalling pathway during Salmonella-mediated cancer therapy, thereby suggesting the potential application of TLR5 agonists in the cancer immune therapy.

Abstract
Background Dynamic changes in circulating immune-inflammatory cells have been regarded as simple and convenient prognostic biomarkers in various cancers. However, studies on the prognostic values of their ratios in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remain limited. Materials and Methods A total of 493 OSCC patients were included in the present study. Here, we investigated the prognostic values of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), neutrophil-to-white blood cell ratio (NWR), and lymphocyte-to-white blood cell ratio (LWR) in OSCC. The correlations of the NLR, LMR, NWR, and LWR with clinicopathological characteristics were statistically analyzed using the Chi-square test, Kaplan-Meier curves, and univariate and multivariate Cox regression models. Result Kaplan-Meier analyses revealed that OSCC patients with a high LMR and low NWR had prolonged overall survival (OS, P<0.001) and disease-free survival (DFS, P<0.001 and P=0.003, respectively), but there were no significant differences in metastasis-free survival (MFS, P=0.053 and P=0.052, respectively). In contrary, a high NLR and low LWR were associated with poor OS (P<0.001 and P=0.0016, respectively), DFS (P=0.0014 and 0.0012, respectively) and MFS (P=0.021 and 0.008, respectively). Additionally, Cox multivariate analyses showed that the LMR was an independent prognostic factor for both OS (P=0.007) and DFS (P=0.017), while the LWR was an independent prognostic factor for MFS (P=0.009). Conclusion Preoperative NLR, LMR, NWR, and LWR in the peripheral blood are significant prognostic factors for OSCC and might be helpful in predicting OSCC progression.

Abstract
The overuse of herbicides has posed a threat to human health and the aquatic environment via DNA mutations and antibiotic gene resistance. Carbon-based cathodic electrochemical advanced oxidation has evolved as a promising technology for herbicide degradation by generating hydroxyl radicals (•OH). However, conventional electro-Fenton process relies on interaction of multiple species that adds to the system complexity and cost and narrows the working pH range. Herein, a series of porous carbon monoliths (PCMs) were developed as a "one-stop" platform for catalysis of the 2-electron ORR coupled with further catalytic reductive cleavage of H2O2 to produce •OH. A PCM prepared using 1,6-hexamethylene diamine (denoted as PCM-HDA) produced H2O2 at a level that was 374% higher than that obtained using commercially available carbon black at circum-neutral pH. Meanwhile, the generated H2O2 was catalytically decomposed to produce •OH. Based on these results, the PCM-HDA electrode achieved an 80 ± 2% degradation of napropamide in 60 min over the pH range of 4-10 at a mildly reducing potential, with a 69 ± 2% TOC reduction at circum-neutral condition in 2 h. This simplified system overcomes the system complexity and pH limitation of the conventional electron-Fenton processes.

Abstract
Uncovering additional causal clinical traits and exposure variables is important when studying osteoporosis mechanisms and for the prevention of osteoporosis. Until recently, the causal relationship between anthropometric measurements and osteoporosis had not been fully revealed. In the present study, we utilized several state-of-the-art Mendelian randomization (MR) methods to investigate whether height, body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), hip circumference (HC), and waist circumference (WC) are causally associated with two major characteristics of osteoporosis, bone mineral density (BMD) and fractures. Genomewide significant (p ≤ 5 × 10-8 ) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with the five anthropometric variables were obtained from previous large-scale genomewide association studies (GWAS) and were utilized as instrumental variables. Summary-level data of estimated bone mineral density (eBMD) and fractures were obtained from a large-scale UK Biobank GWAS. Of the MR methods utilized, the inverse-variance weighted method was the primary method used for analysis, and the weighted-median, MR-Egger, mode-based estimate, and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier methods were utilized for sensitivity analyses. The results of the present study indicated that each increase in height equal to a single standard deviation (SD) was associated with a 9.9% increase in risk of fracture (odds ratio [OR] = 1.099; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.067-1.133; p = 8.793 × 10-10 ) and a 0.080 SD decrease of estimated bone mineral density (95% CI -0.106-(-0.054); p = 2.322 × 10-9 ). We also found that BMI was causally associated with eBMD (beta = 0.129, 95% CI 0.065-0.194; p = 8.113 × 10-5 ) but not associated with fracture. The WHR adjusted for BMI, HC adjusted for BMI, and WC adjusted for BMI were not found to be related to fracture occurrence or eBMD. In conclusion, the present study provided genetic evidence for certain causal relationships between anthropometric measurements and bone mineral density or fracture risk. © 2021 American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR).

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical features, genetic characteristics, treatment and follow-up results of patients with hydrocephalus caused by methylmalonic acidemia combined with homocysteinuria, and to discuss the optimal strategies for assessing and treating such patients. Methods: From January 1998 to December 2020, 76 patients with hydrocephalus due to methylmalonic acidemia combined with homocysteinuria in the Department of Pediatrics in 11 hospitals including Peking University First Hospital were diagnosed by biochemical, genetic analysis and brain imaging examination. The patients were divided into operation-group and non-operation-group according to whether they underwent ventriculoperitoneal shunt. The clinical features, laboratory examinations, genotype, and follow-up data were retrospectively analyzed. Data were compared between the two groups using rank sum test, and categorical data were compared using χ2 test. Results: Among the 76 patients (51 male, 25 female), 5 were detected by newborn screening, while 71 were diagnosed after clinical onset, 68 cases (96%) had early-onset, 3 cases (4%) had late-onset. The most common clinical manifestations of 74 cases with complete data were psychomotor retardation in 74 cases (100%), visual impairment in 74 cases (100%), epilepsy in 44 cases (59%), anemia in 31 cases (42%), hypotonia or hypertonia in 21 cases (28%), feeding difficulties in 19 cases (26%) and disturbance of consciousness in 17 cases (23%). Genetic analysis was performed in 76 cases, all of whom had MMACHC gene variations, including 30 homozygous variations of MMACHC c.609G>A. The most common variations were c.609G>A (94, 62.7%), followed by c.658_660del (18, 12.0%), c.567dupT (9, 6.0%) and c.217C>T (8, 5.3%). Therapy including cobalamin intramuscular injection, L-carnitine and betaine were initiated immediately after diagnosis. A ventriculoperitoneal shunt operation was performed in 41 cases (operation group), and 31 patients improved after metabolic intervention (non-operation group). There was no significant difference in the age of onset, the age of diagnosis, the blood total homocysteine, methionine, and urinary methylmalonic acid concentration between the two groups (all P>0.05). The symptoms of psychomotor development, epilepsy, and visual impairments improved gradually after a long-term follow-up in the operation group. Conclusions: Hydrocephalus is a severe complication of methylmalonic acidemia combined with homocysteinuria. The most common clinical manifestations are psychomotor retardation, visual impairment, and epilepsy. It usually occurs in early-onset patients. Early diagnosis and etiological treatment are very important. Hydrocephalus may improve after metabolic intervention in some patients. For patients with severe ventricular dilatation, prompt surgical intervention can improve the prognosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To establish animal models epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor-related skin rashes using cetuximab, gefitinib or erlotinib. OBJECTIVE Female SCID mice were randomly divided into blank control group and high-, moderate-, and low-dose cetuximab groups. The mice in control group received intraperitoneal injection of saline, and those in the 3 cetuximab groups were injected with 80, 40, and 20 mg/kg cetuximab (3 times a week for 4 weeks), respectively. The general skin appearance and skin pathologies of the mice were observed. Female BN rats were randomly divided into blank group, ovalbumin group, gefitinib group and erlotinib group, and in the latter 3 groups, the rats were given ovalbumin (1 mg), gefitinib (37.5 mg/kg), and erlotinib (23.5 mg/kg) by lavage once daily for 45 days, respectively. Skin pathologies of the rats were observed, and serum levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and other inflammatory factors were detected using ELISA. OBJECTIVE Intraperitoneal injection of cetuximab did not induce typical skin rashes, scabs or obvious skin inflammation in the mice. In female BN rats, lavage of gefitinib caused obvious skin rashes, scabs and exudation, and obvious inflammatory cell infiltration, keratinosis, spinous layer release and epidermal thickening were observed in the skin. No obvious skin inflammation were observed in the rats in the control, ovalbumin or erlotinib groups. While IgE (P=0.061) and TNF-α concentrations (P=0.057) did not differ significantly among the groups, serum levels of IL-6 was significantly higher in gefitinib group than in the blank control group (P=0.016) but similar between erlotinib group and the blank group (P=0.910). OBJECTIVE Intraperitoneal injection of cetuximab can not induce epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor-related skin rashes in SCID mice. Lavage of gefitinib, but not erlotinib, can be used to establish models of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor-related rashes in BN rats.

Abstract
Wnt/β-catenin signaling is indispensable for many biological processes, including embryonic development, cell cycle, inflammation, and carcinogenesis. Aberrant activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling can promote tumorigenicity and enhance metastatic potential in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Targeting this pathway is a new opportunity for precise medicine for HCC. However, inhibiting Wnt/β-catenin signaling alone is unlikely to significantly improve HCC patient outcome due to the lack of specific inhibitors and the complexity of this pathway. Combination with other therapies will be an important next step in improving the efficacy of Wnt/β-catenin signaling inhibitors. Protein kinases play a key and evolutionarily conserved role in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling and have become one of the most important drug targets in cancer. Targeting Wnt/β-catenin signaling and its regulatory kinase together will be a promising HCC management strategy. In this review, we summarize the kinases that modulate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling in HCC and briefly discuss their molecular mechanisms. Furthermore, we list some small molecules that target the kinases and may inhibit Wnt/β-catenin signaling, to offer new perspectives for preclinical and clinical HCC studies.

Abstract
The unique concept of phase reversion involving severe deformation of parent austenite into martensite, followed by annealing for a short duration, whereby the strain-induced martensite reverts to austenite, was adopted to obtain nano-grained/ultrafine-grained (NG/UFG) structure in a Cu-bearing biomedical austenitic stainless steel resulting in high strength-high ductility combination. Work hardening and accompanying deformation mechanism are two important aspects that govern the mechanical behavior of biomedical devices. Thus, post-mortem electron microscopy of the strained region was carried out to explore the differences in the deformation mechanisms induced by grain refinement, while the strain hardening behavior was analyzed by Crussard-Jaoul (C-J) analysis of the tensile stress-strain data. The strain hardening behavior consisted of four stages and was strongly affected by grain structure. Twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) was the governing deformation mechanism in the NG/UFG structure and contributed to good ductility. In striking contrast, transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP) contributed to high ductility in the coarse-grained (CG) counterpart and was the governing strain hardening mechanism. When the grain size is less than ~1 μm, the increase in the strain energy and the austenite stability significantly reduce the possibility of strain-induced martensite transformation such that there is a distinct transition in deformation mechanism from nanoscale twinning in the NG/UFG structure to strain-induced martensite in CG structure. The differences in the deformation mechanisms are explained in terms of austenite stability - strain energy relationship.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Lid wiper epitheliopathy (LWE) has received more attention during the diagnosis and treatment of the dry eye. However, its causes and pathogenesis remain unclear. We aimed to explore the etiology of LWE by analyzing the association between the severity of LWE and different anatomical and tissue morphological examination characteristics using confocal microscopy on eyes with dry eye syndrome. PATIENTS AND METHODS We recruited 350 patients with LWE and dry eye syndrome (350 eyes). We examined the eyes with lid-wiper staining, conjunctival staining, a comprehensive ocular surface exam using the OCULUS keratography 5M, conjunctival impression cytology, and confocal microscopy observations. We analyzed the associations between each indicator and the LWE staining score. RESULTS According to the Spearman's analysis, the LWE staining score was weakly associated with thickness of the lipid layer (r=0.1737, p=0.0005) and severity of Meibomian gland dysfunction (r=0.2026, p<0.0001); and strongly associated with staging of conjunctival impression cytology (r= -0.7694, p<0.0001). Pearson's correlation analysis indicated that, LWE staining score was moderately associated with age (r=0.4165, p<0.0001), tear meniscus height (r=0 -0.4019, p<0.0001), and NIKBUT-first (noninvasive keratography tear film breakup time) (r= -0.5108, p<0.0001); and strongly associated with NIKBUT-average (r= -0.7820, p<0.0001) and ocular staining score (r=0.6113, p<0.00001). Some patients presented abnormal blinking. We observed deeper lesion depths and more holes and fissures in the lid wipers of patients with more severe LWE than in patients with milder LWE. CONCLUSIONS Abnormal friction factors caused by insufficient lubrication between the lid wiper area and the ocular surface seem to influence the development and/or the severity of LWE. Aggravation of LWE further increases the frictional damage between the lid wiper and the ocular surface.

Abstract
The development of catalysts has seen tremendous growth recently but most strategies only report utilization of catalysts for a few initial cycles without taking into account the influence of oxygen poisoning. Here, the magnetic Fe3O4@EDTA-Fe (MEFe, having a core Fe3O4 particle with EDTA-Fe coating) was investigated as a model catalyst for long-term recycling for the removal of nitrogen oxide (NOx) from NO/O2 mixture, followed by N2O recovery. The concentration of oxygen in the flue gas was found to have a strong impact on NOx absorption and catalytic response. To circumvent the oxygen poisoning, the MEFe was subjected to electrochemical treatment in the presence of neutral red (N.R.) and NO removal efficiency was ∼95 % noted. Furthermore, the surface of the catalyst degraded significantly (p < 0.05) after 6-7 repetitive cycling due to surface catalytic reactions, surface poisoning, oxidation of metallic species as well as residual stresses. The MEFe surface was reconstructed after 7 cycles using EDTA solution and Fe source to achieve similar surface coating as the fresh MEFe catalyst. The reconstructed MEFe exhibited similar NOx absorption capability as the fresh MEFe and the reconstruction loop was repeated several times to achieve long term cycling, which make the catalyst cost-effective. Hence, it is proposed that a successful regeneration process can be employed for promising, sustainable and long-lasting catalytic treatment of air pollutants.

Abstract
DNA methylation was one of the earliest discovered epigenetic modifications in vertebrates, and is an important epigenetic mechanism involved in the expression of genes in many biological processes, including muscle growth and development. Its effects on economically important traits are evidenced in reported differences in meat quality traits between Chinese indigenous pig breeds (Wannanhua pig) and Western commercial pig breeds (Yorkshire pig), and this presents a unique model for analyzing the effects of DNA methylation on these traits. In the present study, a whole genome DNA methylation analysis was performed on the two breeds using methylated DNA immunoprecipitation. GO functional enrichment and pathway enrichment analyses identified differentially methylated genes primarily associated with fatty acid metabolism, biological processes of muscle development and signaling pathways related to muscle development and pork quality. Differentially methylated genes were verified by sodium pyrosequencing, and the results were consistent with the sequencing results. The results of the integrative analysis between DNA methylation and gene expression revealed that the DNA methylation levels showed a significantly negative correlation with gene expression levels around the transcription start site of genes. In total, 41 genes were both differentially expressed and methylated; these genes were related to fat metabolism, lipid metabolism and skeletal muscle development. This study could help further explore the molecular mechanisms and phenotypic differences in pig growth and development among different breeds.

Abstract
A new tomographic reconstruction algorithm is presented, termed direct least-squares reconstruction (DLSR), which solves the well known parallax problem in X-ray-scattering-based experiments. The parallax artefact arises from relatively large samples where X-rays, scattered from a scattering angle 2θ, arrive at multiple detector elements. This phenomenon leads to loss of physico-chemical information associated with diffraction peak shape and position (i.e. altering the calculated crystallite size and lattice parameter values, respectively) and is currently the major barrier to investigating samples and devices at the centimetre level (scale-up problem). The accuracy of the DLSR algorithm has been tested against simulated and experimental X-ray diffraction computed tomography data using the TOPAS software.

Abstract
Natural compounds have been confirmed as one of the most feasible solutions for hard-to-treat cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Erianin, a natural bibenzyl compound from Dendrobium chrysotoxum, has been recently discovered with anticancer property in cancer cells. However, the roles and the molecular mechanisms of erianin in HCC remain unknown. The present study evaluates the effect of erianin on human HCC cells by inhibiting cell proliferation, inducing apoptotic-related cell death and hampering tumorigenicity. Furthermore, it was found that erianin could cause irreparable DNA damage, induce G2/M arrest and deregulate mitotic regulators. It was also observed that many cells with damaged DNA induced by erianin could overcome G2/M arrest and enter mitosis, leading to abnormal mitosis, and subsequently mitotic catastrophe and apoptotic-related cell death. The present study confirmed that erianin could be a potential antitumor agent for HCC clinical treatment.

Abstract
Background Periodontal tissue regeneration (PTR) is the ultimate goal of periodontal therapy. Currently, stem cell therapy is considered a promising strategy for achieving PTR. However, there is still no conclusive comparison that distinguishes clear hierarchies among different kinds of stem cells. Methods A systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) was performed using MEDLINE (via PubMed), EMBASE, and Web of Science up to February 2020. Preclinical studies assessing five types of stem cells for PTR were included; the five types of stem cells included periodontal ligament-derived stem cells (PDLSCs), bone marrow-derived stem cells (BMSCs), adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ADSCs), dental pulp-derived stem cells (DPSCs), and gingival-derived stem cells (GMSCs). The primary outcomes were three histological indicators with continuous variables: newly formed alveolar bone (NB), newly formed cementum (NC), and newly formed periodontal ligament (NPDL). We performed pairwise meta-analyses using a random-effects model and then performed a random-effects NMA using a multivariate meta-analysis model. Results Sixty preclinical studies assessing five different stem cell-based therapies were identified. The NMA showed that in terms of NB, PDLSCs (standardized mean difference 1.87, 95% credible interval 1.24 to 2.51), BMSCs (1.88, 1.17 to 2.59), and DPSCs (1.69, 0.64 to 2.75) were statistically more efficacious than cell carriers (CCs). In addition, PDLSCs were superior to GMSCs (1.49, 0.04 to 2.94). For NC, PDLSCs (2.18, 1.48 to 2.87), BMSCs (2.11, 1.28 to 2.94), and ADSCs (1.55, 0.18 to 2.91) were superior to CCs. For NPDL, PDLSCs (1.69, 0.92 to 2.47) and BMSCs (1.41, 0.56 to 2.26) were more efficacious than CCs, and PDLSCs (1.26, 0.11 to 2.42) were superior to GMSCs. The results of treatment hierarchies also demonstrated that the two highest-ranked interventions were PDLSCs and BMSCs. Conclusion PDLSCs and BMSCs were the most effective and well-documented stem cells for PTR among the five kinds of stem cells evaluated in this study, and there was no statistical significance between them. To translate the stem cell therapies for PTR successfully in the clinic, future studies should utilize robust experimental designs and reports.
