Abstract
BACKGROUND Multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC) is a powerful tool for the diagnosis of hematological malignancies and has been useful for the classification of chronic lymphoproliferative disorders (CLPD) according to the WHO criteria. Following the purposes of the Brazilian Group of Flow Cytometry (GBCFLUX), the aim of this report was to standardize the minimum requirements to achieve an accurate diagnosis in CLPDs, considering the different economic possibilities of the laboratories in our country. Most laboratories in Brazil work with 4-fluorescence flow cytometers, which is why the GBCFLUX CLPD Committee has proposed 4-color monoclonal antibody (MoAb) panels. METHODS/RESULTS Panels for screening and diagnosis in B, T and NK lymphoproliferative disorders were developed based on the normal differentiation pathways of these cells and the most frequent phenotypic aberrations. Important markers for prognosis and for minimal residual disease (MRD) evaluation were also included. The MoAb panels presented here were designed based on the diagnostic expertise of the participating laboratories and an extensive literature review. CONCLUSION The 4-color panels presented to aid in the diagnosis of lymphoproliferative neoplasms by GBCFLUX aim to provide clinical laboratories with a systematic, step-wise, cost-effective, and reproducible approach to obtain an accurate immunophenotypic diagnosis of the most frequent of these disorders. © 2016 International Clinical Cytometry Society.

Abstract
A promising route for creating topological states and excitations is to combine superconductivity and the quantum Hall (QH) effect. Despite this potential, signatures of superconductivity in the QH regime remain scarce, and a superconducting current through a QH weak link has been challenging to observe. We demonstrate the existence of a distinct supercurrent mechanism in encapsulated graphene samples contacted by superconducting electrodes, in magnetic fields as high as 2 tesla. The observation of a supercurrent in the QH regime marks an important step in the quest for exotic topological excitations, such as Majorana fermions and parafermions, which may find applications in fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the functional changes of Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptor and to clarify its mechanism in a rat mono-iodoacetate (MIA)-induced joint pain model (MIA rats), which has joint degeneration with cartilage loss similar to osteoarthritis. METHODS Sensitization of TRPV1 in MIA rats was assessed by transient spontaneous pain behavior induced by capsaicin injection in knee joints and electrophysiological changes of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons innervating knee joints in response to capsaicin. Mechanisms of TRPV1 sensitization were analyzed by a newly developed sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay that detects phosphorylated TRPV1, followed by functional and expression analyses of protein kinase C (PKC) in vivo and in vitro, which involves TRPV1 phosphorylation. RESULTS Pain-related behavior induced by intra-articular injection of capsaicin was significantly increased in MIA rats compared with sham rats. In addition, capsaicin sensitivity, evaluated by capsaicin-induced inward currents, was significantly increased in DRG neurons of MIA rats. Protein levels of TRPV1 remained unchanged, but phosphorylated TRPV1 at Ser800 increased in DRG neurons of MIA rats. Phosphorylated-PKCɛ (p-PKCɛ) increased and co-localized with TRPV1 in DRG neurons of MIA rats. Capsaicin-induced pain-related behavior in MIA rats was inhibited by intra-articular pretreatment of the PKC inhibitor bisindolylmaleimide I. In addition, intra-articular injection of the PKC activator phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate increased capsaicin-induced pain-related behavior in normal rats. CONCLUSION TRPV1 was sensitized at the knee joint and at DRG neurons of MIA rats through PKC activation. Thus, TRPV1 sensitization might be involved in chronic pain caused by osteoarthritis.

Abstract
The conventional protocol for isolation of cell wall free nuclei for release of DNA fibers for plants involves mechanical removal of the cell wall and separation of debris by sieve filtration. The mechanical grinding pressure applied during the process leaves only the more tolerant G(1) nuclei intact, and all other states of active nuclei that may be present in the target tissues (e.g., leaf) are simply crushed/disrupted during the isolation process. Here we describe an alternative enzymatic protocol for isolation of nuclei from root tip tissue. Cell wall free nuclei at a given stage of cell cycle, free of any cell debris, could be realized in suspension that are fit for preparation of extended fibers suitable for fiber FISH applications. The protocol utilizes selective harvest of active nuclei from root tip tissue in liquid suspension under the influence of cell wall-degrading enzymes, and provides opportunities to target cell cycle-specific nuclei from interphase through division phase for the release of extended DNA fibers. Availability of cell cycle-specific fibers may have added value in transcriptional analysis, DNA:RNA hybridization, visualization of DNA replication and replication forks, and improved FISH efficiency.

Abstract
The detection of intracerebral lesions has improved greatly with advancements in MR imaging, especially the greater sensitivity of the 1.5 Tesla unit versus the older 1.0 Tesla unit. We aimed to determine whether improvements in MR imaging have actually improved diagnostic capabilities and treatment outcomes in gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS) for brain metastases (METs). Ours was a retrospective study of a consecutive series of 1179 patients (441 females, 738 males, mean age: 63 years, range: 19–92 years) with brain METs who underwent GKRS from 1998 to 2004. Our treatment policy was to irradiate all lesions visible on MR images during a single GKRS session. Mean and median tumor numbers were seven and three (range; 1–74). The 1179 patients were divided into two groups: a 1.0 T-group of 660 patients examined using a 1.0 Tesla MR unit before August, 2002, and a 1.5 T-group of 519 examined using a 1.5 Tesla MR unit after September 2002. In the 1.5 T-group, lesion volumes as small as 0.004 cc were detected with a 5 mm slice thickness. The corresponding lesion size was 0.013 cc in the 1.0 T-group. One or more lesions invisible on a 5 mm slice study were additionally detected on a 2 mm slice study in 47.8% of patients in the 1.0 T-group and 25.2% in the 1.5 T-group (p<.0001). The median survival time (MST) in the 1.5 T-group was significantly longer than that in the 1.0 T-group (8.4 vs. 6.3 months, p=.0004). Due to biases in patient numbers between the two groups, we analyzed subgroups with KPS of 80% or better, no neurological deficits, stable primary tumors, lung cancer, tumor numbers of four or less and tumor volumes of 10.0 cc or smaller. In every subgroup analysis, the MSTs of the 1.5-Tesla group were significantly longer than those of the 1.0-Tesla group. The prognosis of a cancer patient is undoubtedly influenced by multiple factors. Nevertheless, we conclude that application of the 1.5 Tesla MR unit has had a favorable impact on diagnosis and GKRS treatment results in patients with brain METs.

Abstract
T2K reports its first measurements of the parameters governing the disappearance of ν[over ¯]_{μ} in an off-axis beam due to flavor change induced by neutrino oscillations. The quasimonochromatic ν[over ¯]_{μ} beam, produced with a peak energy of 0.6 GeV at J-PARC, is observed at the far detector Super-Kamiokande, 295 km away, where the ν[over ¯]_{μ} survival probability is expected to be minimal. Using a data set corresponding to 4.01×10^{20} protons on target, 34 fully contained μ-like events were observed. The best-fit oscillation parameters are sin^{2}(θ[over ¯]_{23})=0.45 and |Δm[over ¯]_{32}^{2}|=2.51×10^{-3} eV^{2} with 68% confidence intervals of 0.38-0.64 and 2.26-2.80×10^{-3} eV^{2}, respectively. These results are in agreement with existing antineutrino parameter measurements and also with the ν_{μ} disappearance parameters measured by T2K.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parkinsonism is often observed in the elderly. To clarify the prevalence of parkinsonism-associated diseases and conditions, we conducted a population-based study in a rural island town in western Japan, Ama-cho. METHODS Participants included 924 subjects aged 65 years or older residing in the town. Between 2008 and 2011, participants were assessed via standardized neurological examination scales, and Brain MRIs were carried out in 2010. Based on the results of assessment using the modified Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale and a standardized neurological examination, participants were diagnosed as having parkinsonism or mild parkinsonian signs (MPS), or as displaying normal motor conditions (M-normal). RESULTS Of the 729 participants screened, 70 subjects were diagnosed as having parkinsonism, corresponding to a crude prevalence rate of 9.6% (95% CI, 7.9-11.3%), while 167 MPS subjects (22.9%) and 492 subjects experiencing M-normal (67.5%) were observed. Parkinsonism was found in association with various diseases such as Vascular parkinsonism, Lewy body disease, Alzheimer's disease (AD), and idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus. Among the subjects with dementia, the proportion with parkinsonism was higher in the non-AD dementia group. CONCLUSION(S) Parkinsonism occurs in association with several diseases in elderly people. Parkinsonism was also found to be commonly associated with cognitive impairment.

Abstract
The factors that influence long-term outcomes after living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) are not well known. Compared with deceased-donor transplantation, LDLT has an increased likelihood of a related donor and a decreased number of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) mismatches. To clarify the effects of donor relatedness and HLA mismatch on the outcomes after LDLT, we retrospectively analyzed 444 Japanese patients. Donors were blood relatives for 332 patients, spouses for 105, and "other" for 7. The number of HLA A-B-DR mismatches was none to two in 141, three in 123, and four to six in 106 patients. The 15-year survival rate was 52.6%, and PBC recurred in 65 patients. Recipient aged 61 years or older, HLA mismatches of four or more (maximum of six), graft:recipient weight ratio less than 0.8, and husband donor were adverse indicators of patient survival. IgM 554 mg/dL or greater, donor-recipient sex mismatch, and initial immunosuppression with cyclosporine were significant risks for PBC recurrence, which did not affect patient survival. In subgroup analysis, conversion to cyclosporine from tacrolimus within 1 year diminished recurrence. Prospective studies are needed to determine the influence of pregnancy-associated sensitization and to establish an optimal immunosuppressive regimen in LDLT patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Brachypodium distachyon is a promising model plants for grasses. Infections of Brachypodium by various pathogens that severely impair crop production have been reported, and the species accordingly provides an alternative platform for investigating molecular mechanisms of pathogen virulence and plant disease resistance. To date, we have a broad picture of plant immunity only in Arabidopsis and rice; therefore, Brachypodium may constitute a counterpart that displays the commonality and uniqueness of defence systems among plant species. Phytohormones play key roles in plant biotic stress responses, and hormone-responsive genes are used to qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate disease resistance responses during pathogen infection. For these purposes, defence-related phytohormone marker genes expressed at time points suitable for defence-response monitoring are needed. Information about their expression profiles over time as well as their response specificity is also helpful. However, useful marker genes are still rare in Brachypodium. RESULTS We selected 34 candidates for Brachypodium marker genes on the basis of protein-sequence similarity to known marker genes used in Arabidopsis and rice. Brachypodium plants were treated with the defence-related phytohormones salicylic acid, jasmonic acid and ethylene, and their transcription levels were measured 24 and 48 h after treatment. Two genes for salicylic acid, 7 for jasmonic acid and 2 for ethylene were significantly induced at either or both time points. We then focused on 11 genes encoding pathogenesis-related (PR) 1 protein and compared their expression patterns with those of Arabidopsis and rice. Phylogenetic analysis suggested that Brachypodium contains several PR1-family genes similar to rice genes. Our expression profiling revealed that regulation patterns of some PR1 genes as well as of markers identified for defence-related phytohormones are closely related to those in rice. CONCLUSION We propose that the Brachypodium immune hormone marker genes identified in this study will be useful to plant pathologists who use Brachypodium as a model pathosystem, because the timing of their transcriptional activation matches that of the disease resistance response. Our results using Brachypodium also suggest that monocots share a characteristic immune system, defined as the common defence system, that is different from that of dicots.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The cytokine interleukin-31 (IL-31) is considered to be responsible for the development of pruritus in humans. At present, no available evidence has been provided on the safety and efficacy of blocking the IL-31 signal in humans for the amelioration of pruritus in atopic dermatitis (AD). CIM331 is a humanized antihuman IL-31 receptor A (IL-31RA) monoclonal antibody, which binds to IL-31RA to inhibit subsequent IL-31 signalling. OBJECTIVES To assess the tolerability, safety, pharmacokinetics and preliminary efficacy of CIM331 in healthy Japanese and white volunteers, and Japanese patients with AD. METHODS In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase I/Ib study, CIM331 was administered in a single subcutaneous dose. The primary outcomes were safety and tolerability; the exploratory analysis was efficacy. RESULTS No deaths, serious adverse events (AEs) or discontinuations due to AEs were reported in any part of the study. No dose-dependent increase in the incidence of AEs occurred in any part of the study. In healthy volunteers, all AEs occurred once in the placebo groups, and increased creatine phosphokinase was more common in the CIM331 groups. In patients with AD, CIM331 reduced pruritus visual analogue scale score to about -50% at week 4 with CIM331 compared with -20% with placebo. CIM331 increased sleep efficiency and decreased the use of hydrocortisone butyrate. CONCLUSIONS A single subcutaneous administration of CIM331 was well tolerated in healthy volunteers and patients with AD. It decreased pruritus, sleep disturbance and topical use of hydrocortisone. CIM331 may become a novel therapeutic option for AD by inhibiting IL-31.

Abstract
Previous studies have identified various factors related to masticatory performance. This study was aimed to investigate variations and impacts of factors related to masticatory performance among different occlusal support areas in general urban population in Japan. A total of 1875 Japanese subjects (mean age: 66·7 years) were included in the Suita study. Periodontal status was evaluated using the Community Periodontal Index (CPI). The number of functional teeth and occlusal support areas (OSA) were recorded, and the latter divided into three categories of perfect, decreased and lost OSA based on the Eichner Index. Masticatory performance was determined by means of test gummy jelly. For denture wearers, masticatory performance was measured with the dentures in place. The multiple linear regression analysis showed that, when controlling for other variables, masticatory performance was significantly associated with sex, number of functional teeth, maximum bite force and periodontal status in perfect OSA. Masticatory performance was significantly associated with number of functional teeth, maximum bite force and periodontal status in decreased OSA. In lost OSA, masticatory performance was significantly associated with maximum bite force. Maximum bite force was a factor significantly influencing masticatory performance that was common to all OSA groups. After controlling for possible confounding factors, the number of functional teeth and periodontal status were common factors in the perfect and decreased OSA groups, and only sex was significant in the perfect OSA group. These findings may help in providing dietary guidance to elderly people with tooth loss or periodontal disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Enhancements in surgical techniques have led to improved outcomes for esophageal cancer. Recent findings have showed that esophageal cancer is frequently associated with multiple primary cancers, and surgical resection is usually complicated in such cases. The aim of this study was to clarify the clinical significance of surgery for patients with esophageal squamous cell cancer associated with multiple primary cancers. METHODS The clinical outcomes of surgical resection for esophageal cancer were compared among 79 patients with antecedent and/or synchronous cancers (Multiple cancer group) and 194 patients without antecedent and/or synchronous cancers (Single cancer group). RESULTS The most common site of multiple primary cancers was the pharynx (36 patients; 29.7%), followed by the stomach (24 patients; 19.8%). The reconstruction method was more complicated in the Multiple cancer group as a result of the prolonged surgery time and increased blood loss. However, postoperative morbidity and overall survival (OS) did not differ between the two groups. After esophagectomy, metachronous cancers were observed in 26 patients, with 30 regions in total, and 93.1% were found to be curable. Sex was the only independent risk factors for developing metachronous cancer after esophagectomy. CONCLUSIONS The presence of antecedent and synchronous cancers complicates the surgical resection of esophageal cancer; however, no differences were found in the OS and postoperative morbidity between the two groups. Therefore, surgical intervention should be selected as a first-line treatment. Because second primary cancers are often observed in esophageal cancer, we recommend a close follow-up using esophagogastroduodenoscopy and contrast-enhanced computed tomography.

Abstract
The accumulation of accident-derived radiocesium was investigated in nine water bodies located 300-700 km from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP). (134)Cs from the accident was detected in surface sediment of five water bodies. The (134)Cs concentration, corrected to the time of the accident in 2011, was generally lower than that of (137)Cs, and its spatial pattern does not fully correspond to that of (137)Cs. These results suggest that radiocesium derived from both FDNPP and past global fallout can be separately observed and that the contributions of both sources are non-uniform within these sites. The (134)Cs inventory in surface sediments is smaller than its deposition, suggesting that almost all deposited (134)Cs remains within the catchment and/or a part has been discharged from the saline and brackish water bodies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Periodontal disease is dental plaque-induced inflammatory disease of the periodontal tissues that results in bone loss in the affected teeth. During bone resorption, receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL) is an essential factor that regulates osteoclastogenesis. Recently, we found that gingival epithelial cells (GECs) in periodontal tissue produce RANKL, the expression of which is regulated by tumor necrosis factor-α and protein kinase A signaling. In this study, we asked whether RANKL-producing GECs induce bone marrow macrophages (BMMs) to form osteoclasts in a co-culture system. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ca9-22 GECs and osteoclast precursor BMMs were co-cultured with or without the protein kinase A signaling activator forskolin or inhibitor H89 to examine whether the RANKL-producing GECs could be induced to form osteoclasts, as determined using a pit formation assay. RESULTS Osteoclasts formed spontaneously in co-cultures of Ca9-22 cells and BMMs, even in the absence of RANKL. The cells were cultured on bone slices for 14 d, at which time resorption pits were observed. Forskolin treatment significantly increased osteoclast numbers in these co-cultures, but forskolin alone did not induce osteoclast formation by BMMs. CONCLUSION GECs producing RANKL are able to support osteoclastogenesis in an in vitro co-culture system using GECs and BMMs, in a process promoted by forskolin.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Emergency medical technicians in Japan have experienced difficulties in identifying hospitals that will accept patients with severe finger injuries. We developed and managed a system named Interactive Teletriage using mobile phone photos to aid efficient patient transportation. The aim of this study was to investigate features related to the transportation of patients with severe finger injuries and to evaluate the feasibility of this system. MATERIALS AND METHODS We prospectively analysed data from the medical association of Aichi Prefecture and the Nagoya City Fire Department in Japan. We investigated features related to the transportation of 474 patients with severe finger injuries in Nagoya from 2010 to 2013: 100 in 2010, 134 in 2011, 125 in 2012, and 115 in 2013. We began using Teletriage in August 2011 and compared the periods before and after its implementation. RESULTS The time of injury showed two different peaks from 09:00 to 11:00h and at 13:00h. The number of patients injured during each weekday was generally the same, while cases on Saturdays and Sundays reflected 70% and 47% of the weekday average, respectively. Of the 474 patients, 395 (83%) were accepted to hospitals after 3 or fewer requests for admission: 160 of 202 (79.2%) before and 235 of 272 (86.4%) after Teletriage, constituting a significant increase (p=0.039). Furthermore, the number of patients who required 4 or more requests significantly decreased after implementation of Teletriage (p=0.039): 42 patients (20.8%) before and 37 (13.6%) after Teletriage. Our data showed that as the number of requests until final determination increased, the transportation period increased. Furthermore, the mean transportation period significantly decreased from 22.3min before to 18.1min after Teletriage (p=0.021). As the number of requests until final determination increased, the proportion of patients transported to Level I and II hospitals decreased; conversely, the proportion of patients transported to Level III, IV, and V hospitals increased. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicated that the implementation of Teletriage has the potential to ease the problem of emergency medical transportation for those with severe finger injuries.

Abstract
A spinal cord injury leads to disturbances of sensory and motor signals due to the damage to white matter and myelinated fiber tracts. Moreover, the damage to gray matter causes segmental loss of interneurons of dorsal horn and motoneurons and restricts the therapeutic options. Neuroprotective strategies have the potential to improve the neurological outcome of patients. To achieve this, concerns to anesthetics or analgesics as neuroprotective interventions have been accumulating to explore neuroprotection during perioperative period. This review includes consideration of: 1) basic concepts of the pathophysiological mechanisms following spinal cord injury and 2) anesthetics and analgesics displaying neuroprotective potential. In particular, we review the application of isoflurane as an inhalational neuroprotectant and discuss evidence for the neuroprotection provided by barbiturates. In addition, 3) recent advances in stem cell biology, neural injury and repair, and progress toward the development of neuroprotective and regenerative interventions are the basis for increased optimism.

Abstract
Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci 6605 (Pta6605) produces acyl homoserine lactones (AHLs), quorum sensing (QS) molecules that are indispensable for virulence in host tobacco infection. Genome-wide transcriptional profiling of several QS-defective mutants revealed that the expression of the genes encoding the MarR family transcriptional regulator (MarR) and a Rieske 2Fe-2S cluster-containing protein (Orf5) located adjacent to psyI, a gene encoding AHL synthetase, are significantly repressed. Exogenous application of AHL recovered the expression of both marR and orf5 genes in the ΔpsyI mutant, indicating that AHL positively regulates the expression of these genes. To investigate the role of these genes in the virulence of Pta6605, ΔmarR and Δorf5 mutants were generated. Both mutants showed decreased swimming and swarming motilities, decreased survival ability under oxidative and nitrosative stresses and, consequently, reduced virulence on host tobacco plants. Transmission electron micrographs showed that the structure of the cell membranes of ΔmarR and Δorf5 mutants was severely damaged. Furthermore, not only the ratio of dead cells, but also the amount of flagella, extracellular DNA and protein released into the culture supernatant, was significantly increased in both mutants, indicating that the disruption of marR and orf5 genes might induce structural changes in the membrane and cell lysis. Because both mutants showed partly similar expression profiles, both gene products might be involved in the same regulatory cascades that are required for QS-dependent survival under environmentally stressed conditions.

Abstract
Plasma levels of 25-OH-D, 1,25-(OH)2-D and 24,25-(OH)2-D in acute renal failure, chronic glomerulonephritis and chronic renal failure were determined by competitive protein binding assay and evaluated for the correlation with the degree of renal impairment and the influence of dialysis, renal transplantation and the administration of vitamin D and 1-alpha-OH-D3. In this study it is revealed that 25-OH-D deficiency could be normalized by the administration of vitamin D2. Plasma levels of 1,25-(OH)2-D are decreased in proportion to the degree of renal impairment and it is clearly depressed in patients, with a Ccr of 30 ml/min or less. Although biosynthesis of 24,25-(OH)2-D is not remarkably depressed, it is necessary to resolve various questions including the methods of measurement in this respect. Abstract
Age effects on plasma metabolites, hormone concentrations, and enzyme activities related to energy metabolism were investigated in 20 riding horses. Animals were divided into two groups: young (3-8 years) and aged (11-18 years). They were clinically healthy, and not obese. Plasma adiponectin (ADN) concentrations in aged horses were significantly lower than those in young horses (mean±SE, 6.5±1.3 µg mL-1 vs, 10.9±1.7 µg mL-1, Mann-Whitney U test, respectively; P=0.0233). Plasma non-esterified fatty acid levels and Insulin and malondialdehyde concentrations in aged group tended to increase compared to those in young group although there were not significant differences statistically. In aged group, malate dehydrogenase/lactate dehydrogenase (M/L) ratio, which is considered an energy metabolic indicator, did not change significantly compared to that in young group. Present data suggest that aging may negatively affect nutrition metabolism, but not induce remarkable changes in M/L ratio in riding horses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Blood flow in an intracranial stent cannot be visualized with 3D time-of-flight MR angiography owing to magnetic susceptibility and radiofrequency shielding. As a novel follow-up tool after stent-assisted coil embolization, we applied MRA by using a Silent Scan algorithm that contains an ultrashort TE combined with an arterial spin-labeling technique (Silent MRA). The purpose of this study was to determine whether Silent MRA could visualize flow in an intracranial stent placed in the anterior circulation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Nine patients treated with stent-assisted coil embolization for anterior circulation aneurysms underwent MRAs (Silent MRA and TOF MRA) and x-ray digital subtraction angiography. MRAs were performed in the same session on a 3T unit. Two neuroradiologists independently reviewed the MRA images and subjectively scored flow in a stent as 1 (not visible) to 4 (excellent) by referring to the latest x-ray digital subtraction angiography image as a criterion standard. RESULTS Both observers gave MRA higher scores than TOF MRA for flow in a stent in all cases. The mean score for Silent MRA was 3.44 ± 0.53, and for TOF MRA, it was 1.44 ± 0.46 (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS Silent MRA was able to visualize flow in an intracranial stent more effectively than TOF MRA. Silent MRA might be useful for follow-up imaging after stent-assisted coil embolization, though these study results may be only preliminary due to some limitations.

Abstract
Background Elpamotide is an HLA-A*24:02-restricted epitope peptide of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2) and induces cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) against VEGFR-2/KDR. Given the high expression of VEGFR-2 in biliary tract cancer, combination chemoimmunotherapy with elpamotide and gemcitabine holds promise as a new therapy. Patients and Methods Patients with unresectable advanced or recurrent biliary tract cancer were included in this single-arm phase II trial, with the primary endpoint of overall survival. Survival analysis was performed in comparison with historical control data. The patients concurrently received gemcitabine once a week for 3 weeks (the fourth week was skipped) and elpamotide once a week for 4 weeks. Results Fifty-five patients were registered, of which 54 received the regimen and were included in the full analysis set as well as the safety analysis set. Median survival was 10.1 months, which was longer than the historical control, and the 1-year survival rate was 44.4 %. Of these patients, injection site reactions were observed in 64.8 %, in whom median survival was significantly longer (14.8 months) compared to those with no injection site reactions (5.7 months). The response rate was 18.5 %, and all who responded exhibited injection site reactions. Serious adverse reactions were observed in five patients (9 %), and there were no treatment-related deaths. Conclusion Gemcitabine and elpamotide combination therapy was tolerable and had a moderate antitumor effect. For future development of therapies, it will be necessary to optimize the target population for which therapeutic effects could be expected.

Abstract
To assess the delivery mechanism of radiocesium emitted from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP), we examined vertical profiles of (134)Cs, (137)Cs, and (228)Ra concentrations and the (228)Ra/(226)Ra ratio in the water columns off the Sanriku Coast in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, in July 2012, along with their surface lateral variations in July 2009. Radiocesium concentrations exhibited maximum peaks (3-5 mBq/L for (134)Cs) at depths of 100-200 m, accompanied by high (228)Ra concentrations (0.6-0.8 mBq/L) in comparison with shallower depths (∼0.4 mBq/L). Taking the circulation patterns of currents in the area into account, it was inferred that radioactive depositions were supplied to the (228)Ra-rich Tsugaru Warm Current Water (TWCW) in the offshore area of the Sanriku Coast following the FDNPP accident, and that after the spring of 2011, this water (∼26.5σθ) was covered by lower density surface water, which helped intrude its way to depths of 100-200 m.

Abstract
This study examined muscular adaptations of knee extensors following short-term low-frequency downhill walking training. 22 young males (training group: TG, n=12; control group: CG, n=10) participated. TG conducted 40-min downhill treadmill walking (load: 10% of body mass, gradient: 28%, velocity: 5 km/h) 1 session/week for 4 weeks. Before and after the intervention, muscle thickness of knee extensors and maximal knee extension torques in eccentric (- 120, - 60, - 30°/s), isometric (0°/s), and concentric (30, 60, 120, 240°/s) conditions were measured. For TG, muscle damage markers were also measured before and up to 72 h following each session. After the intervention, CG did not show any changes in all variables. TG had significant increases in maximal knee extension torques at all angular velocities, with higher relative gains in eccentric torques (+ 24% on average) than isometric (+ 13%) and concentric (+ 12% on average) torques. No changes were found in the muscle thickness. Although considerable muscle damage was observed after the first training session in TG, the magnitudes of changes in all markers following the second to fourth sessions were minimal. These results indicate that even with relatively short-term and low-frequency, downhill walking training can increase the strength capacity of knee extensors, especially in eccentric strength.

Abstract
We report on the direct observation of the transmission phase shift through a Kondo correlated quantum dot by employing a new type of two-path interferometer. We observed a clear π/2-phase shift, which persists up to the Kondo temperature TK. Above this temperature, the phase shifts by more than π/2 at each Coulomb peak, approaching the behavior observed for the standard Coulomb blockade regime. These observations are in remarkable agreement with two-level numerical renormalization group calculations. The unique combination of experimental and theoretical results presented here fully elucidates the phase evolution in the Kondo regime.
