Abstract
We report measurements of the nuclear modification factor R_{CP} for charged hadrons as well as identified π^{+(-)}, K^{+(-)}, and p(p[over ¯]) for Au+Au collision energies of sqrt[s_{NN}]=7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, 39, and 62.4 GeV. We observe a clear high-p_{T} net suppression in central collisions at 62.4 GeV for charged hadrons which evolves smoothly to a large net enhancement at lower energies. This trend is driven by the evolution of the pion spectra but is also very similar for the kaon spectra. While the magnitude of the proton R_{CP} at high p_{T} does depend on the collision energy, neither the proton nor the antiproton R_{CP} at high p_{T} exhibit net suppression at any energy. A study of how the binary collision-scaled high-p_{T} yield evolves with centrality reveals a nonmonotonic shape that is consistent with the idea that jet quenching is increasing faster than the combined phenomena that lead to enhancement.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Serum sex hormone-binding globulin levels have been associated with mortality in adult men with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). OBJECTIVES To confirm the association of serum sex hormone-binding globulin with mortality and then determine whether this association is mediated by age and total testosterone concentration. MATERIALS AND METHODS We studied 364 men (median age: 66 years) with T2DM over a median follow-up of 4.3 years using the Cox regression to study associations between sex hormone-binding globulin, age, total testosterone, and mortality. RESULTS Mortality was significantly and independently associated with sex hormone-binding globulin, age, and total testosterone. In pairwise combinations of age and sex hormone-binding globulin dichotomized by median values, the association of sex hormone-binding globulin with mortality was age-dependent. Relative to the combination of age >66 years/SHBG >35 nmol/L (mortality 22.5%), the other combinations were associated with significantly less mortality (mortality in men ≤66 years/SHBG ≤ 35 nmol/L was 3.23%). In men >66 years, SHBG ≤ 35 nmol/L was associated with decreased mortality (HR: 0.41, p = 0.037) compared with SHBG > 35 nmol/L. In men ≤66 years, there was no significant difference between those with sex hormone-binding globulin above or below the median (HR: 1.73, p = 0.56, reference: SHBG ≤ 35 nmol/L). TT < 12 nmol/L was associated with increased mortality in both age categories. Men >66 years with the reference combination of SHBG > 35 nmol/L and TT < 12 nmol/L (36.84%) nmol/L had significantly higher mortality than those with SHBG > 35 nmol/L and TT ≥ 12 (18.06%) and those with SHBG ≤ 35 nmol/L and TT < 12 nmol/L (13.79%). DISCUSSION Our data suggest sex hormone-binding globulin and total testosterone have particular impact on mortality in men aged over 66 years. Further, in older men, the combination of high sex hormone-binding globulin levels and low total testosterone is associated with greater risk than either high sex hormone-binding globulin or low total testosterone individually. CONCLUSIONS Our findings are compatible with data suggesting the importance of sex hormone-binding globulin lies in mediating free testosterone levels.

Abstract
Rapidity-odd directed-flow measurements at midrapidity are presented for Λ, Λ[over ¯], K^{±}, K_{s}^{0}, and ϕ at sqrt[s_{NN}]=7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV in Au+Au collisions recorded by the Solenoidal Tracker detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These measurements greatly expand the scope of data available to constrain models with differing prescriptions for the equation of state of quantum chromodynamics. Results show good sensitivity for testing a picture where flow is assumed to be imposed before hadron formation and the observed particles are assumed to form via coalescence of constituent quarks. The pattern of departure from a coalescence-inspired sum rule can be a valuable new tool for probing the collision dynamics.

Abstract
We demonstrate a novel approach to enhance the mode stability through increased effective index difference (Δneff) between the higher-order modes (LP18, LP09 and LP19) of a multimode fiber. Fibers with large diameters have bigger effective mode areas (Aeff) and can be useful for high power lasers and amplifiers. However, a large mode area (LMA) results in an increased number of modes that can be more susceptible to mode coupling. The modal effective index difference (Δneff) strongly correlates with mode stability and this increases as the modal order (m) increases. We report here that the mode spacing between the higher order modes can be further enhanced by introducing doped concentric rings in the core. In our work, we have shown a more than 35% increase in the mode spacing between the higher order modes by optimizing the doping profile of a LMA fiber. The proposed design technique is also scalable and can be applied to improve the mode spacing between different higher order modes and their neighboring antisymmetric modes, as necessary.

Abstract
Orbital angular momentum beam excitation through direct phase-matched coupling is experimentally demonstrated using an all-fiber weakly fused mode selective coupler consisting of a single-mode fiber and a ring-core fiber. Experimental results showing the excited OAM mode purity of up to 75% measured through the standard ring technique not only demonstrate the proof of concept but also provide a baseline for further improvement.

Abstract
AIM Although "late onset hypogonadism", a condition that includes low testosterone and symptoms, is common in men over the age of 40 years, diagnosis is not clear cut amongst non-specialists. It is the aim of this review to provide an up to date picture of how this state should be diagnosed and managed. METHODS We aim to describe how primary and secondary hypogonadism should be excluded before the diagnosis of late onset hypogonadism is reached. As laboratory testosterone measurements are essential the current pitfalls such as inappropriate sample collection and the use of population derived reference ranges are expanded. We review current evidence to determine associations between late onset hypogonadism and morbidity/mortality and benefits following testosterone replacement therapy. RESULTS A review of the current evidence shows that late onset hypogonadism is associated with a worse metabolic state and increased mortality. Longitudinal studies have suggested that significant reductions in both symptoms and mortality are seen, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes. DISCUSSION This review highlights the importance of diagnosing late onset hypogonadism due to its association with morbidity/mortality and benefits following testosterone replacement. Thus, after making recommendations to ensure correct diagnosis we speculate whether the time has come to move away from population derived testosterone levels towards evidence based action limits.

Abstract
We report the first dijet transverse momentum asymmetry measurements from Au+Au and pp collisions at RHIC. The two highest-energy back-to-back jets reconstructed from fragments with transverse momenta above 2 GeV/c display a significantly higher momentum imbalance in heavy-ion collisions than in the pp reference. When reexamined with correlated soft particles included, we observe that these dijets then exhibit a unique new feature-momentum balance is restored to that observed in pp for a jet resolution parameter of R=0.4, while rebalancing is not attained with a smaller value of R=0.2.

Abstract
We report the first measurement of the elliptic anisotropy (v_{2}) of the charm meson D^{0} at midrapidity (|y|<1) in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The measurement was conducted by the STAR experiment at RHIC utilizing a new high-resolution silicon tracker. The measured D^{0} v_{2} in 0%-80% centrality Au+Au collisions can be described by a viscous hydrodynamic calculation for a transverse momentum (p_{T}) of less than 4 GeV/c. The D^{0} v_{2} as a function of transverse kinetic energy (m_{T}-m_{0}, where m_{T}=sqrt[p_{T}^{2}+m_{0}^{2}]) is consistent with that of light mesons in 10%-40% centrality Au+Au collisions. These results suggest that charm quarks have achieved local thermal equilibrium with the medium created in such collisions. Several theoretical models, with the temperature-dependent, dimensionless charm spatial diffusion coefficient (2πTD_{s}) in the range of ∼2-12, are able to simultaneously reproduce our D^{0} v_{2} result and our previously published results for the D^{0} nuclear modification factor.

Abstract
Frequency doubling of conventional fiber lasers in the near-infrared remains the most promising method for generating integrated high-peak-power lasers in the visible, while maintaining the benefits of a fiber geometry; but since the shortest wavelength power-scalable fiber laser sources are currently restricted to either the 10XX nm or 15XX nm wavelength ranges, accessing colors other than green or red remains a challenge with this schematic. Four-wave mixing using higher-order fiber modes allows for control of dispersion while maintaining large effective areas, thus enabling a power-scalable method to extend the bandwidth of near-infrared fiber lasers, and in turn, the bandwidth of potential high-power sources in the visible. Here, two parametric sources using the LP0,7 and LP0,6 modes of two step-index multi-mode fibers are presented. The output wavelengths for the sources are 880, 974, 1173, and 1347 nm with peak powers of 10.0, 16.2, 14.7, and 6.4 kW respectively, and ~300-ps pulse durations. The efficiencies of the sources are analyzed, along with a discussion of wavelength tuning and further power scaling, representing an advance in increasing the bandwidth of near-infrared lasers as a step towards high-peak-power sources at wavelengths across the visible spectrum.

Abstract
AIM To determine how statins, testosterone (T) replacement therapy (TRT) and phosphodiesterase 5-inhibitors (PDE5I) influence age related mortality in diabetic men.
METHODS We studied 857 diabetic men screened for the BLAST study, stratifying them (mean follow-up = 3.8 years) into: (1) Normal T levels/untreated (total T > 12 nmol/L and free T > 0.25 nmol/L), Low T/untreated and Low T/treated; (2) PDE5I/untreated and PDE5I/treated; and (3) statin/untreated and statin/treated groups. The relationship between age and mortality, alone and with T/TRT, statin and PDE5I treatment was studied using logistic regression. Mortality probability and 95%CI were calculated from the above models for each individual.
RESULTS Age was associated with mortality (logistic regression, OR = 1.10, 95%CI: 1.08-1.13, P < 0.001). With all factors included, age (OR = 1.08, 95%CI: 1.06-1.11, P < 0.001), Low T/treated (OR = 0.38, 95%CI: 0.15-0.92, P = 0.033), PDE5I/treated (OR = 0.17, 95%CI: 0.053-0.56, P = 0.004) and statin/treated (OR = 0.59, 95%CI: 0.36-0.97, P = 0.038) were associated with lower mortality. Age related mortality was as described by Gompertz, r2 = 0.881 when Ln (mortality) was plotted against age. The probability of mortality and 95%CI (from logistic regression) of individuals, treated/untreated with the drugs, alone and in combination was plotted against age. Overlap of 95%CI lines was evident with statins and TRT. No overlap was evident with PDE5I alone and with statins and TRT, this suggesting a change in the relationship between age and mortality.
CONCLUSION We show that statins, PDE5I and TRT reduce mortality in diabetes. PDE5I, alone and with the other treatments significantly alter age related mortality in diabetic men.

Abstract
Aethalometer based source apportionment model using the measured aerosol absorption coefficients at different wavelengths is used to apportion the contribution of fossil fuel and wood burning sources to the total black carbon (BC) mass concentration. Temporal and seasonal variabilities in BC mass concentrations, equivalent BC from fossil fuel (BC f f ), and wood burning (BC w b ) are investigated over an urban location in western India during January 2014 to December 2015. BC, BC f f , and BC w b mass concentrations exhibit strong diurnal variation and are mainly influenced by atmospheric dynamics. BC f f was higher by a factor of 2-4 than BC w b and contributes maximum to BC mass throughout the day, confirming consistent anthropogenic activities. Diurnal contribution of BC f f and BC w b exhibits opposite variation due to differences in emission sources over Ahmedabad. Night time BC values are about a factor of 1.4 higher than day time BC values. The annual mean percentage contributions of day time and night time are 42 and 58 %, respectively. BC, BC f f , and BC w b mass concentrations exhibit large and significant variations during morning, afternoon, evening, and night time. During afternoon, mass concentration values are minimum throughout the year because of the fully evolved boundary layer and reduced anthropogenic activities. BC exhibits a strong seasonal variability with postmonsoon high (8.3 μg m -3) and monsoon low (1.9 μg m -3). Annual mean BC f f and BC w b contributions are 80 and 20 %, respectively, to total BC, which suggests that major contribution of BC in Ahmedabad comes from fossil fuel emissions. The results show that the study location is dominated by fossil fuel combustion as compared to the emissions from wood burning. The results obtained represent a regional value over an urban regime which can be used as inputs on source apportionment to model BC emissions in regional and global climate models.

Abstract
We present the first measurement of charge-dependent directed flow in Cu+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The results are presented as a function of the particle transverse momentum and pseudorapidity for different centralities. A finite difference between the directed flow of positive and negative charged particles is observed that qualitatively agrees with the expectations from the effects of the initial strong electric field between two colliding ions with different nuclear charges. The measured difference in directed flow is much smaller than that obtained from the parton-hadron-string-dynamics model, which suggests that most of the electric charges, i.e., quarks and antiquarks, have not yet been created during the lifetime of the strong electric field, which is of the order of, or less than, 1 fm/c.
