Abstract
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble steroid hormone that activates vitamin D receptor to regulate multiple downstream signaling pathways and transcription of various target genes. There is an association between vitamin D deficiency and increased risk for cardiovascular disease. However, most of the studies are observational and associative in nature with limited data on clinical application. Thus, there is a need for more prospective randomized controlled studies to determine whether or not vitamin D supplementation provides cardiovascular protection. In this study, we examined the effects of the deficiency and supplementation of vitamin D on coronary restenosis following coronary intervention in atherosclerotic Yucatan microswine. Twelve Yucatan microswine were fed vitamin D-deficient (n = 4) or -sufficient (n = 8) high cholesterol diet for 6-months followed by coronary intervention. Post-intervention, swine in the vitamin D-sufficient high cholesterol diet group received daily oral supplementation of either 1,000 IU (n = 4) or 3,000 IU (n = 4) vitamin D3. Six months later, optical coherence tomography (OCT) was performed to monitor the development of intimal hyperplasia and restenosis. Animals were euthanized to isolate arteries for histomorphometric and immunohistochemical studies. Animals had graded levels of serum 25(OH)D; vitamin D-deficient (15.33 ± 1.45 ng/ml), vitamin D-sufficient + 1,000 IU oral vitamin D post-intervention (32.27 ± 1.20 ng/ml), and vitamin D-sufficient + 3,000 IU oral vitamin D post-intervention (51.00 ± 3.47 ng/ml). Findings from the OCT and histomorphometric studies showed a decrease in intimal hyperplasia and restenosis in vitamin D-supplemented compared to vitamin D-deficient swine. Vitamin D supplementation significantly decreased serum levels of TNF-α and IFN-γ, upregulated serum levels of IL-10, and had no effect on serum IL-6 levels. These findings suggest that vitamin D supplementation limits neointimal formation following coronary intervention in atherosclerotic swine and provide the support for vitamin D supplementation to protect against the development of coronary restenosis.

Abstract
The data described herein are related to the article entitled “Tumor necrosis factor-α regulates triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1-dependent matrix metalloproteinases in the carotid plaques of symptomatic patients with carotid stenosis” (Rao et al., 2016) [1]. Additional data are provided on the dose–response effect of TNF-α, TREM-1 antibody and recombinant rTREM-1/Fc fusion chimera (TREM-1/FC) on the expression of MMP-1 and MMP-9 in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) isolated from human carotid endarterectomy tissues. Data are also presented on the distribution of CD86+ M1- and CD206+ M2-macrophages and their co-localization with TREM-1 in symptomatic carotid plaques as visualized by dual immunofluorescence. Abstract
Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease with atherosclerotic plaques containing inflammatory cells, including T-lymphocytes, dendritic cells (DCs) and macrophages that are responsible for progression and destabilization of atherosclerotic plaques. Stressed cells undergoing necrosis release molecules that act as endogenous danger signals to alert and activate innate immune cells. In atherosclerotic tissue the number of DCs increases with the progression of the lesion and produce several inflammatory cytokines and growth factors. Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells (TREM)-1 plays a crucial role in inflammation. However, relationship of DCs and the role of TREM-1 with the stability of atherosclerotic plaques have not been examined. In this study, we investigated the heterogeneity of the plaque DCs, myeloid (mDC1 and mDC2) and plasmacytoid (pDCs), and examined the expression of TREM-1 and their co-localization with DCs in the plaques from symptomatic (S) and asymptomatic (AS) patients with carotid stenosis. We found increased expression of HLA-DR, fascin, and TREM-1 and decreased expression of TREM-2 and α-smooth muscle actin in S compared to AS atherosclerotic carotid plaques. Both TREM-1 and fascin were co-localized suggesting increased expression of TREM-1 in plaque DCs of S compared to AS patients. These data were supported by increased mRNA transcripts of TREM-1 and decreased mRNA transcripts of TREM-2 in carotid plaques of S compared to AS patients. There was higher density of both CD1c+ mDC1 and CD141+ mDC2 in the carotid plaques from AS compared to S patients, where as the density of CD303+ pDCs were higher in the carotid plaques of S compared to AS patients. These findings suggest a potential role of pDCs and TREM-1 in atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability. Thus, newer therapies could be developed to selectively block TREM-1 for stabilizing atherosclerotic plaques.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the relationship between increased triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells (TREM)-1 and plaque stability in atherosclerotic carotid stenosis. METHODS The mRNA transcripts and protein for TREM-1, MMP-1, MMP-9, collagen type I (COL1A1) and collagen type III (COL3A1) were analyzed by qPCR and immunofluorescence in both tissues and VSMCs isolated from atherosclerotic carotid plaques of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with carotid stenosis. RESULTS The TREM-1, MMP-1 and MMP-9 mRNA transcripts were significantly increased (TREM-1, p < 0.01; MMP-1, p < 0.01 and MMP-9, p < 0.001) while COL1A1 and COL3A1 mRNA transcripts were decreased (p < 0.001) in VSMCs isolated from carotid plaques of symptomatic (S) than asymptomatic (AS) patients. Stimulation of cells with TNF-α further increased the mRNA transcripts of TREM-1, MMPs, COL1A1 and COL3A1. Modulation of TREM-1 by treatment with TREM-1 decoy receptor rTREM-1/Fc, and either TREM-1 antibodies or TREM-1 siRNA attenuated the TNF-α-induced expression of MMP-1 and MMP-9 (p < 0.01) and COL1A1 and COL3A1 (p < 0.01) in S compared to AS VSMCs isolated from carotid plaques. Inhibition of NF-kB (BAY 11-7085), JNK (SP600125) and PI3K (LY294002) signaling pathways decreased the expression of TREM-1 (p < 0.01), MMP-1 (p < 0.001) and MMP-9 (p < 0.01) in TNF-α-treated VSMCs isolated from S carotid plaques compared to AS patients. CONCLUSION Increased expression of TREM-1 in S compared to AS patients involving MMP-1 and MMP-9 suggest a potential role of TREM-1 in plaque destabilization. Selective blockade of TREM-1 may contribute to the development of new therapies and promising targets for stabilizing vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques.

Abstract
The β-galactoside-binding animal lectin galectin-3 is predominantly expressed by activated macrophages and is a promising biomarker for patients with heart failure. Galectin-3 regulates inflammatory and fibrotic responses; however, its role in cardiac remodeling remains unclear. We hypothesized that galectin-3 may be up-regulated in the pressure-overloaded myocardium and regulate hypertrophy and fibrosis. In normal mouse myocardium, galectin-3 was constitutively expressed in macrophages and was localized in atrial but not ventricular cardiomyocytes. In a mouse model of transverse aortic constriction, galectin-3 expression was markedly up-regulated in the pressure-overloaded myocardium. Early up-regulation of galectin-3 was localized in subpopulations of macrophages and myofibroblasts; however, after 7 to 28 days of transverse aortic constriction, a subset of cardiomyocytes in fibrotic areas contained large amounts of galectin-3. In vitro, cytokine stimulation suppressed galectin-3 synthesis by macrophages and cardiac fibroblasts. Correlation studies revealed that cardiomyocyte- but not macrophage-specific galectin-3 localization was associated with adverse remodeling and dysfunction. Galectin-3 knockout mice exhibited accelerated cardiac hypertrophy after 7 days of pressure overload, whereas female galectin-3 knockouts had delayed dilation after 28 days of transverse aortic constriction. However, galectin-3 loss did not affect survival, systolic and diastolic dysfunction, cardiac fibrosis, and cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in the pressure-overloaded heart. Despite its potential role as a prognostic biomarker, galectin-3 is not a critical modulator of cardiac fibrosis but may delay the hypertrophic response.

Abstract
Graft versus host disease (GVHD) after liver transplant, although a rare disease, has a very high mortality rate. GVHD occurs due to immunoreactions caused by donor T lymphocytes and host cell surface antigens resulting in proliferation and clonal expansion of T lymphocyte. Migration of effector cells, including macrophages, NK cells and cytotoxic T lymphocyte, to the target organs such as skin, intestine and bone marrow results in skin rashes, diarrhea and bone marrow depression. GVHD is diagnosed by clinical symptoms, histopathological findings and by the presence of chimerism. The delayed diagnosis, opportunistic infections and lack of definitive treatment of post orthotopic liver transplant (OLT)-GVHD results in sepsis and multi-organ failure leading to very low survival rates. In this review, we have focused on early diagnosis and critically discuss novel treatment modalities to decrease the incidence of GVHD.

Abstract
Although degradation of extracellular matrix by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) is thought to be involved in symptomatic (S) carotid plaques in atherosclerosis, the mechanisms of MMP expression are poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that collagen loss in vascular smooth vessel cells (VSMCs) isolated from S plaques was induced by epidermal growth factor (EGF) through the activation of p38-MAPK and JNK-MAPK pathways. Inhibitors of p38-MAPK and JNK-MAPK signaling pathways downregulated the expression of MMP-1 and MMP-9. In addition, we examined whether v-ets erythroblastosis virus E26 oncogene homologue 1 (Ets-1), an important regulator of different genes, is involved in destabilizing S plaques in patients with carotid stenosis. We demonstrate that EGF induces Ets-1 expression and decreases interstitial and basement membrane collagen in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) from patients with carotid stenosis. Increased expression of MMP-1 and -9 and decreased collagen mRNA transcripts were also found in Ets-1-overexpressed VSMCs. Transfection with both dominant-negative form of Ets-1 and small interfering RNA blocked EGF-induced MMP-1 and -9 expressions and increased the mRNA transcripts for collagen I (α1) and collagen III (α1) in S compared with asymptomatic (AS) carotid plaques. Inhibitors of p38-MAPK (SB202190) and JNK-MAPK (SP600125) signaling pathways decreased the expression of Ets-1, MMP-1, and MMP-9 and increased collagen type I and III expression in EGF-treated VSMCs. This study provides a mechanistic insight into the role of Ets-1 in the plaque destabilization in patients with carotid stenosis involving p38-MAPK and JNK signaling pathways.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Heart failure in diabetics is associated with cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis and diastolic dysfunction. Activation of transforming growth factor-β/Smad3 signaling in the diabetic myocardium may mediate fibrosis and diastolic heart failure, while preserving matrix homeostasis. We hypothesized that Smad3 may play a key role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular remodeling associated with diabetes mellitus and obesity. METHODS AND RESULTS We generated leptin-resistant db/db Smad3 null mice and db/db Smad3+/- animals. Smad3 haploinsufficiency did not affect metabolic function in db/db mice, but protected from myocardial diastolic dysfunction, while causing left ventricular chamber dilation. Improved cardiac compliance and chamber dilation in db/db Smad3+/- animals were associated with decreased cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, reduced collagen deposition, and accentuated matrix metalloproteinase activity. Attenuation of hypertrophy and fibrosis in db/db Smad3+/- hearts was associated with reduced myocardial oxidative and nitrosative stress. db/db Smad3 null mice had reduced weight gain and decreased adiposity associated with attenuated insulin resistance, but also exhibited high early mortality, in part, because of spontaneous rupture of the ascending aorta. Ultrasound studies showed that both lean and obese Smad3 null animals had significant aortic dilation. Aortic dilation in db/db Smad3 null mice occurred despite reduced hypertension and was associated with perturbed matrix balance in the vascular wall. CONCLUSIONS Smad3 mediates diabetic cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, and diastolic dysfunction, while preserving normal cardiac geometry and maintaining the integrity of the vascular wall.

Immune cells, including T-lymphocytes, dendritic cells (DCs) and macrophages recruited from blood stream into atherosclerotic lesions, are responsible for progression and destabilization of atherosclerotic plaques. Stressed cells undergoing necrosis release molecules that act as endogenous danger signals to alert and activate innate immune cells. Upon activation, DCs, macrophages, and neutrophils produce several inflammatory cytokines and growth factors. In atherosclerotic tissue, the number of DCs increases with the progression of the lesion. In this study, we examined the expression of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) in plaque DCs and compared between the plaques from symptomatic (S) and asymptomatic (AS) patients with carotid stenosis.
Methods and Results:
Surgical specimens of human atherosclerotic plaques were obtained from patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy. The expression patterns of TREM-1, HLA-DR, and fascin (DC) were determined by immunofluorescence with α-actin as specific marker to identify smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). There was a marked decrease in VSMCs and an increased density of HLA-DR+ cells in the plaques of S than AS patients. Fascin expression to show DCs was undetectable in normal carotid artery specimens but significantly increased in the carotid plaques of S compared to AS. TREM-1 expression was increased in S and localized with HLA-DR and fascin. However, TREM-1 was increased in S plaques containing less number of VSMCs. The mRNA expression of MMP-9, MMP-1 was increased while Col 1 (α1) and Col III (α1) mRNA transcripts were decreased in S plaques.
Conclusions:
Increased expression of TREM-1 in plaque DCs of S compared to AS patients suggests a potential role of TREM-1 in atherosclerotic plaque vulnerability. Collectively, these data demonstrate that selective blockade of TREM-1 may contribute to the development of new therapies and promising targets for stabilizing atherosclerotic plaques.

Aims:
Unstable atherosclerotic plaques in carotid artery are characterized by rupture of their fibrous cap, leading to transient ischemic attack or stroke. However, the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Our aim was to investigate the expression and function of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) on plaque stability involving matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and examine the effect of inflammatory cytokine TNF-α in symptomatic (S) compared to asymptomatic (AS) patients with carotid stenosis.
Methods and Results:
The mRNA transcripts for TREM-1, MMPs (MMP-1, MMP-3, and MMP-9) and collagen type I and III were analyzed by qPCR and immunofluorescence, respectively in whole plaque and plaque smooth muscle cells (pSMCs) isolated from carotid endarterectomy tissues of patients with carotid stenosis. The mRNA transcripts of TREM-1, MMP-1 and MMP-9 were increased while Col I and Col III mRNA transcripts were decreased in pSMCs of S compared to AS patients. Stimulation of pSMCs with TNF-α further increased the mRNA transcripts of TREM-1 and MMPs without any additional effect on Col I (α1) or Col III (α1) mRNA levels. The inhibitors of NF-kB (BAY11-7085), JNK (SP600125) and PI3K (LY294002) signaling pathways attenuated the effect of TNF-α. Modulation of TREM-1 in TNF-α-treated pSMCs by the administration of TREM-1 decoy receptor rTREM-1/Fc, monoclonal antibodies, or siRNA to TREM-1 attenuated the expression of MMPs and Col I (α1) and Col III (α1) in both S and AS groups.
Conclusion:
Increased expression of TREM-1 in pSMCs of symptomatic than in asymptomatic patients suggest a potential role of TREM-1 in plaque destabilization. This is further supported by the pronounced effect of inflammatory cytokine, TNF-α, to increase of mRNA transcripts for TREM-1 and MMPs. Selective blockade of TREM-1 may contribute to the development of new therapies and promising targets for stabilizing vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques.

Abstract
The relentless advance of drug-resistance among pathogenic microbes, mandates a search for alternative approaches that will not cause resistance. Photodynamic inactivation (PDI) involves the combination of nontoxic dyes with harmless visible light to produce reactive oxygen species that can selectively kill microbial cells. PDI can be broad-spectrum in nature and can also destroy microbial cells in biofilms. Many different kinds of nanoparticles have been studied to potentiate antimicrobial PDI by improving photosensitizer solubility, photochemistry, photophysics and targeting. This review will cover photocatalytic disinfection with titania nanoparticles, carbon nanomaterials (fullerenes, carbon nanotubes and graphene), liposomes and polymeric nanoparticles. Natural polymers (chitosan and cellulose), gold and silver plasmonic nanoparticles, mesoporous silica, magnetic and upconverting nanoparticles have all been used for PDI.

Abstract
Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) enzyme is essential for DNA synthesis and DNA methylation, and its gene polymorphisms have been implicated as risk factors for birth defects, neurological disorders, and different types of cancers. Several studies have investigated the association between the MTHFR A1298C polymorphism and breast cancer (BC) risk, but the results were inconclusive. To assess the risk associated with MTHFR A1298C polymorphism, a comprehensive meta-analysis was performed. PubMed, Google Scholar, Elsevier and Springer Link databases were searched for case-control studies relating the association between MTHFR A1298C polymorphism and BC risk and estimated summary odds ratios (ORs) with confidence intervals (CIs) for assessment. Up to January 2014, 33 case-control studies involving 15,919 BC patients and 19,700 controls were included in the present meta-analysis. The results showed that the A1298C polymorphism was not associated with BC risk in all the five genetic models (C vs. A allele (allele contrast): OR = 0.99, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.93–1.05; AC versus AA (heterozygote/codominant): OR = 0.97, 95% CI: 0.89–1.04; CC versus AA (homozygote): OR = 0.99, 95% CI: 0.91–1.06; CC + AC versus AA (dominant model): OR = 0.97, 95% CI: 0.90–1.05; and CC versus AC + AA (recessive model): OR = 0.99, 95% CI: 0.91–1.07). The present meta-analysis did not support any association between the MTHFR A1298C polymorphism and BC risk.

Abstract
Pre-conditioning by ischemia, hyperthermia, hypothermia, hyperbaric oxygen (and numerous other modalities) is a rapidly growing area of investigation that is used in pathological conditions where tissue damage may be expected. The damage caused by surgery, heart attack, or stroke can be mitigated by pre-treating the local or distant tissue with low levels of a stress-inducing stimulus, that can induce a protective response against subsequent major damage. Low-level laser (light) therapy (LLLT) has been used for nearly 50 years to enhance tissue healing and to relieve pain, inflammation and swelling. The photons are absorbed in cytochrome(c) oxidase (unit four in the mitochondrial respiratory chain), and this enzyme activation increases electron transport, respiration, oxygen consumption and ATP production. A complex signaling cascade is initiated leading to activation of transcription factors and up- and down-regulation of numerous genes. Recently it has become apparent that LLLT can also be effective if delivered to normal cells or tissue before the actual insult or trauma, in a pre-conditioning mode. Muscles are protected, nerves feel less pain, and LLLT can protect against a subsequent heart attack. These examples point the way to wider use of LLLT as a pre-conditioning modality to prevent pain and increase healing after surgical/medical procedures and possibly to increase athletic performance.

Abstract
Regulatory T cells (Tregs) play a pivotal role in suppressing immune responses regulating behavior and gene expression in effector T cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tregs infiltrate the infarcted myocardium; however, their role the inflammatory and reparative response after myocardial infarction remains poorly understood. We used FoxP3(EGFP) reporter mice to study Treg trafficking in the infarcted heart and examined the effects of Treg depletion on postinfarction remodeling using an anti-CD25 antibody. Moreover, we investigated the in vitro effects of Tregs on cardiac fibroblast phenotype and function. Low numbers of Tregs infiltrated the infarcted myocardium after 24-72 h of reperfusion. Treg depletion had no significant effects on cardiac dysfunction and scar size after reperfused myocardial infarction but accelerated ventricular dilation and accentuated apical remodeling. Enhanced myocardial dilation in Treg-depleted animals was associated with increased expression of chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2 and accentuated macrophage infiltration. In vitro, Tregs modulated the cardiac fibroblast phenotype, reducing expression of α-smooth muscle actin, decreasing expression of matrix metalloproteinase-3, and attenuating contraction of fibroblast-populated collagen pads. Our findings suggest that endogenous Tregs have modest effects on the inflammatory and reparative response after myocardial infarction. However, the anti-inflammatory and matrix-preserving properties of Tregs may suggest a role for Treg-based cell therapy in the attenuation of adverse postinfarction remodeling.

Abstract
Environmental and genetic factors are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL)/spontaneous abortions (SA), which include endocrine, anatomical abnormalities within the genital organs, autoimmune diseases and some gene variants. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a key enzyme of the folate/methionine metabolic pathway and it is well established fact that folate deficiency causes pregnancy complications like recurrent pregnancy loss, preeclempsia and birth defects affected pregnancies. MTHFR A1298C polymorphism reduces the enzymatic activity and mimics as folate deficiency. To date, many studies have investigated the association between MTHFR A1298C polymorphism and RPL risk; however, the result is still controversial and inconclusive. The aim of the present study was to address the association of MTHFR A1298C polymorphism with RPL risk by meta—analysis. By searching electronic databases, total seventeen studies were identified for present meta—analysis. Crude odds ratios (OR) with 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) was used to assess the strength of association between A1298C polymorphism and RPL. The results indicate that the A1298C polymorphism is not associated with RPL (ORCvs A = 1.13 ,95 % CI= 0.87—1.46, P = 0.36 ; ORACvs AA = 1.22 ,95 % CI= 0.94— 1.6, P = 0.13; ORCCvsAA =1.35, 95 % CI= 76—2.36, P = 0.30; ORCC+AC vs AA = 1.15, 95 % CI= 88 —1.49, P = 0.29; ORCCvs AC+AA = 1.29, 95 % CI= 76 —2.12, P = 0.34). Further prospective studies were needed to confirm the precise relationship between the MTHFR A1298C polymorphism and RPL.

Abstract
Genetic association studies on MTHFR C677 T polymorphism and depression have been repeatedly performed over the last two decades and results are generally inconsistent. The aim of the present study was to assess the risk of MTHFR C677T polymorphism for depression in Asian population. The author performed a meta-analysis and pooled data from individual case-control studies that examined the association between C677T polymorphism and depression (meta-analysis: 13 studies, 1,120 cases and 1,688 controls).The pooled Odd Ratios (OR) were estimated by both fixed effects and random effects models. Overall, there was an association between MTHFR C677T polymorphism and increased risk of depression under five genetic models (OR T vs. C=1.44, 95% CI= 1.56-1.78, P=0.001; OR TT vs. CC= 1.78, 95% CI 1.17– 2.69, P=0.006; OR CT vs CC=1.102, 95% CI=0.91-1.32,P=0.31; OR TT vs. CT+CC=1.73, 95% CI= 0.87-3.41, P=0.11; OR TT+CT vs. CC=1.26, 95% CI=0.96-1.64, P=0.08). Sensitivity analysis suggested exclusion of any single study did not alter the overall pooled Ors. In conclusion results of present meta-analysis supports that there is a significant association between MTHFR C677T polymorphism and depression risk, and MTHFR 677T allele contributes to increased risk of depression in Asian individuals.

Abstract
In the infarcted myocardium, activation of the inflammatory cascade clears the wound from dead cells, whereas stimulating matrix degradation and chamber dilation, thus contributing to the development of heart failure. IL-1 is critically involved in the postinfarction inflammatory reaction and mediates adverse dilative remodeling. We hypothesized that IL-1 may regulate postinfarction repair and remodeling through cell-specific actions on leukocytes and fibroblasts. Flow cytometry demonstrated that in mouse infarcts, early recruitment of proinflammatory Ly6C(hi) cells expressing IL-1R1, the signaling receptor for IL-1, was followed by infiltration with cells expressing the decoy receptor, IL-1R2. Increased expression of IL-1R2 may serve to terminate IL-1-driven inflammation after infarction. Loss of IL-1 signaling in IL-1R1 null mice globally attenuated leukocyte recruitment, reducing the number of infiltrating Ly6C(hi) and Ly6C(lo) cells. Nonmyeloid CD11b(-) cells harvested during the inflammatory phase of cardiac repair exhibited marked upregulation of chemokines and cytokines; their inflammatory activation was IL-1R1 dependent. Moreover, IL-1β attenuated TGF-β-induced contractile activity of fibroblasts populating collagen pads, attenuated α-smooth muscle actin expression, and stimulated matrix metalloproteinase synthesis in an IL-1R1-dependent manner. The effects of IL-1 on TGF-β responses in cardiac fibroblasts were not due to direct effects on Smad activation, but were associated with endoglin suppression and accentuated expression of bone morphogenetic protein and activin membrane-bound inhibitor, a negative regulator of TGF-β signaling. IL-1 may orchestrate fibroblast responses in the infarct; early stimulation of fibroblast IL-1R1 signaling during the inflammatory phase may prevent premature activation of a matrix-synthetic contractile phenotype until the wound is cleared, and the infarct microenvironment can support mesenchymal cell growth.

Abstract
A new isolate of Streptomyces sp. from soil of state Chhattisgarh (India) having broad spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activity was obtained. The active strain was identified as Streptomyces rimosus subsp. rimosus with accession number MTCC 10792 based on physiological, biochemical characteristics and 16S rRNA sequence homology studies. Antimicrobial compound produced by S. rimosus was tested against the drug resistance pathogens by the Bauer and Kirby method. The crude active metabolite was extracted using solvent n-butanol and purified by silica column chromatography and HPLC method. The physicochemical characteristics of the one purified compound viz. color, melting point, solubility, elemental analysis; ESIMS, IR,UV, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and chemical reactions have been investigated. Purified antimicrobial compound produced by S. rimosus MTCC 10792 at concentration 25 μg/ml showed antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv, Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Ra as well as broad activity against all tested bacterial and fungal pathogens.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the distribution of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) polymorphism in two caste group populations of eastern Uttar Pradesh. This mutation has been suggested to be positively associated with the risk of several congenital and multifactorial disorders. Frequency of mutant T allele differs in various ethnic and geographical populations of the world. MTHFR C677T mutation analysis was carried out by PCR-RFLP (Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) method and the samples studied were randomly selected from the healthy individuals belonging to two caste populations. In Brahmin samples, genotype frequencies of CC, CT and TT were 0.727, 0.25 and 0.023 respectively whereas in Rajput samples, CC genotype was observed in 88 samples, CT genotype in 25 and TT genotype was found in 2 samples. Frequency of mutant T allele was found to be 0.147 in Brahmin and 0.126 in Rajput populations. The percentage of CT genotype and C allele were high in both the populations.
