Abstract
Drought in Australia has widespread impacts on agriculture and ecosystems. Satellite-based Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) has great potential to monitor and assess drought impacts on vegetation greenness and health. Various FAPAR products based on satellite observations have been generated and made available to the public. However, differences remain among these datasets due to different retrieval methodologies and assumptions. The Quality Assurance for Essential Climate Variables (QA4ECV) project recently developed a quality assurance framework to provide understandable and traceable quality information for Essential Climate Variables (ECVs). The QA4ECV FAPAR is one of these ECVs. The aim of this study is to investigate the capability of QA4ECV FAPAR for drought monitoring in Australia. Through spatial and temporal comparison and correlation analysis with widely used Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), Satellite Pour l’Observation de la Terre (SPOT)/PROBA-V FAPAR generated by Copernicus Global Land Service (CGLS), and the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) drought index, as well as the European Space Agency’s Climate Change Initiative (ESA CCI) soil moisture, the study shows that the QA4ECV FAPAR can support agricultural drought monitoring and assessment in Australia. The traceable and reliable uncertainties associated with the QA4ECV FAPAR provide valuable information for applications that use the QA4ECV FAPAR dataset in the future.

Abstract
Abstract
Along with the urbanization process, large amount of construction and demolition (C&D) waste during the construction, reconstruction, expansion or demolition of buildings is generated. Meanwhile, the impact on environment due to natural aggregate mining has become increasingly significant. These factors have driven the building industry to look for environmentally friendly materials and focusing on sustainable construction. Through nearly a decade of research, recycled concrete (RC) made with recycled aggregates manufactured from construction and demolition (C&D) waste has shown a competitive performance compared to natural materials and has already achieved industrial application. Researches on sustainably recycled concrete have become an essential part of sustainable development and continue to play a vital role for future research.
This paper engages in the discussion and the overview of research done by the Research Group for Recycled Concrete Structures and Construction at Tongji University, Shanghai. The first part discusses the necessary mechanical and durability properties of recycled concrete with recycled aggregate as well as recycled powder focusing on workability, strength, Poisson’s ratio, stress-strain behaviour along with carbonation, chloride penetration shrinkage and creep. The second part throws light on the elements and structures made with recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), discussing the behaviours of RAC components and structures.

Abstract
The first consensus report of the working party of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) set up in 2004 on acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) was published in 2009. With international groups volunteering to join, the "APASL ACLF Research Consortium (AARC)" was formed in 2012, which continued to collect prospective ACLF patient data. Based on the prospective data analysis of nearly 1400 patients, the AARC consensus was published in 2014. In the past nearly four-and-a-half years, the AARC database has been enriched to about 5200 cases by major hepatology centers across Asia. The data published during the interim period were carefully analyzed and areas of contention and new developments in the field of ACLF were prioritized in a systematic manner. The AARC database was also approached for answering some of the issues where published data were limited, such as liver failure grading, its impact on the 'Golden Therapeutic Window', extrahepatic organ dysfunction and failure, development of sepsis, distinctive features of acute decompensation from ACLF and pediatric ACLF and the issues were analyzed. These initiatives concluded in a two-day meeting in October 2018 at New Delhi with finalization of the new AARC consensus. Only those statements, which were based on evidence using the Grade System and were unanimously recommended, were accepted. Finalized statements were again circulated to all the experts and subsequently presented at the AARC investigators meeting at the AASLD in November 2018. The suggestions from the experts were used to revise and finalize the consensus. After detailed deliberations and data analysis, the original definition of ACLF was found to withstand the test of time and be able to identify a homogenous group of patients presenting with liver failure. New management options including the algorithms for the management of coagulation disorders, renal replacement therapy, sepsis, variceal bleed, antivirals and criteria for liver transplantation for ACLF patients were proposed. The final consensus statements along with the relevant background information and areas requiring future studies are presented here.

Abstract
In recent years, many studies have focused on the changes of partial or single African ecosystems and the drivers of those changes. However, focusing only on partial or single ecosystems has limited the understanding of the relationships between the vegetation and climate changes in all of the African ecosystems. In this study, the temporal trends of the satellite-derived annual mean leaf area index (GLASS-LAI) were analyzed, and the inter-annual relationships were developed between the annual mean LAI and the climate variables (precipitation and temperature) for the time period ranging from 1982 to 2013. Additionally, this study applied seasonal curves and step-wise multiple regression methods to investigate the relationships between intra-annual LAI and climate changes. It was found that the GLASS-LAI over half of Africa had shown general significant greening or browning trends during the period from 1982 to 2013. From the results of inter-annual analysis, with mean annual precipitation lower than 600 mm, the greening of the savannas and grasslands in the Sahel was found to highly correspond with the increased precipitation. In contrast, the evergreen broadleaf forests in the Gulf of Guinea and Congo Basin showed strongly positive responses to the annual temperature when the mean annual temperature was below 25 °C. In regard to the intra-annual responses, the precipitation with 1-month lags was found to be helpful for the vegetation growth, with the exception of the evergreen broadleaf. The results of this research study indicated that the different land-covers in Africa had displayed clear differences in their annual trends during the examined 32-year period and had responded differently to the inter- and intra-annual climate drivers. This difference was evident by the characteristics of the vegetation covers and the geographic distributions. Therefore, further examinations of these differences can potentially improve the understanding of the land surface-atmosphere interactions among the different African ecosystems.

Abstract
Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy is a premiere method for analysis of the structure and structural transformation of nanoparticles. Extraction of analytical information about the three-dimensional structure and dynamics of metal-metal bonds from EXAFS spectra requires special care due to their markedly non-bulk-like character. In recent decades, significant progress has been made in the first-principles modeling of structure and properties of nanoparticles. In this review, we summarize new approaches for EXAFS data analysis that incorporate particle structure modeling into the process of structural refinement.

Abstract
A Ag/P-stereogenic phosphine-complex-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylides with electron-deficient olefins is reported. In this reaction, highly functionalized pyrrolines with a spiro-quaternary stereogenic center were obtained in good yields (up to 99%) with excellent levels of diastereo- (up to >20:1 dr) and enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee). The chirality of adducts was controlled predominantly by the P-stereogenic phosphines.

Abstract
1-Iminylphosphirane W(CO)5 complexes react with alkenes under an atmosphere of CO at 130 °C to form the original 7-aza-1-phosphanorbornane complexes. The reaction works well with both electron-rich and electron-poor alkenes. On the basis of DFT calculations, we propose a mechanism including the rearrangement of phosphirane into a dipolar five-membered ring and the following cycloaddition of this dipolar intermediate with alkenes.

Abstract
In recent years, carbon nanotube/polyaniline (CNT/PANI) nanocomposites have aroused much interest because of their broad application prospects as electrodes in supercapacitors and batteries. However, a great deal of heat can be generated during fast charging and discharging processes and this can influence the efficiency of devices. In this paper, we measured the thermal properties of CNT/PANI in different oxidation states. The results indicate that within an electric potential range from −0.4 V to +0.4 V, both the thermal diffusivity and the thermal conductivity decrease obviously with potential due to the successive loss of electrons from PANI. Losing protons at higher voltages leads to a reduction in thermal conductivity but a jump in thermal diffusivity. The composite material provides an example for studying the influence of the loss or gain of electrons and protons on the thermal properties of a polymer. It also provides a superb system for thermal management through electric potential. Fast charging/discharging process of the supercapacitors would generate a great deal of heat and influence their efficiency. Abstract
This study conducted the global sensitivity analysis of the APSIM-Oryza rice growth model under eight climate conditions and two CO2 levels using the extended Fourier Amplitude Sensitivity Test method. Two output variables (i.e. total aboveground dry matter WAGT and dry weight of storage organs WSO) and twenty parameters were analyzed. The ±30% and ±50% perturbations of base values were used as the ranges of parameter variation, and local fertilization and irrigation managements were considered. Results showed that the influential parameters were the same under different environmental conditions, but their orders were often different. Climate conditions had obvious influence on the sensitivity index of several parameters (e.g. RGRLMX, WGRMX and SPGF). In particular, the sensitivity index of RGRLMX was larger under cold climate than under warm climate. Differences also exist for parameter sensitivity of early and late rice in the same site. The CO2 concentration did not have much influence on the results of sensitivity analysis. The range of parameter variation affected the stability of sensitivity analysis results, but the main conclusions were consistent between the results obtained from the ±30% perturbation and those obtained the ±50% perturbation in this study. Compared with existing studies, our study performed the sensitivity analysis of APSIM-Oryza under more environmental conditions, thereby providing more comprehensive insights into the model and its parameters.

Abstract
Climate warming is expected to accelerate glacier retreat and shift hydrological regime, which poses great threat to regional water resources in terms of amount, variability, and quality. This is especially true in arid regions with glaciers such as the Central Asia. However, few models manage to mimic both glacier runoff and surface changes with adequate performance. To narrow this gap, we integrated a spatially distributed hydrological model (FLEXG) and a glacier retreat model (∆h-parameterization), and tested the new model in the Urumqi Glacier No. 1 catchment, which is best monitored in China. The model inputs include climate forcing, topographic map and initial ice thickness. Here we validated the model with runoff observation at downstream and glacier measurements, i.e. three historical glacier area maps (1980, 1994 and 2002), annual glacier mass balance (GMB) and equilibrium line altitude (ELA). Results show that the FLEXG-∆h model performed well in estimating runoff (with Kling-Gupta efficiency 0.75 for hydrograph) and reproducing historical glacier area variation. Additionally the model generated reasonably spatial distribution of glacier thickness, which is important to examine glacier evolution at the Urumqi Glacier No. 1. Subsequently we ran the model forced by 12 combinations of two climate scenarios and six bias correction methods to assess the impact of climate change on glacier thinning, retreat, and its influence on water resource. The impact assessment shows that glacier area will lose up to a half (54%) of their 1980 extent in 2050, and up to 80% in 2100; while ice volume will decrease up to 79% in 2050, and 92% in 2100. The tipping point (peak water) of glacier melt supply was projected to occur around 2020 and then runoff would decrease significantly. These results alert us that there is a need for immediate mitigation measures to adapt to fast glacier change to assure long-term water security in this region.

Abstract
7-Phosphanorbornene sulfides were used as [RP = S] precursors. The reaction of these precursors with [M(PPh3)4] (M = Pd, Pt) yields star-like M4 clusters in which the central core is coated by three RP = S units acting as 4-electron μ2-P, η2-P = S ligands. The Pd cluster displays both stability and catalytic activity in the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction. DFT analysis suggests that a mononuclear [η2-RP = S]Pd(PPh3) complex is involved in the formation of the Pd4 clusters.

Abstract
A novel mobile laser radar system was used for mapping gaseous atomic mercury (Hg0) atmospheric pollution in the Wanshan district, south of Tongren City, Guizhou Province, China. This area is heavily impacted by legacy mercury from now abandoned mining activities. Differential absorption lidar measurements were supplemented by localized point monitoring using a Lumex RA-915M Zeeman modulation mercury analyzer. Range-resolved concentration measurements in different directions were performed. Concentrations in the lower atmospheric layers often exceeded levels of 100 ng/m3 for March conditions with temperature ranging from 5 °C to 20 °C. A flux measurement of Hg0 over a vertical cross section of 0.12 km2 resulted in about 29 g/h. Vertical lidar sounding at night revealed quickly falling Hg0 concentrations with height. This is the first lidar mapping demonstration in a heavily mercury-polluted area in China, illustrating the lidar potential in complementing point monitors.

Abstract
Lakes and vegetation are important factors of the Earth's hydrological cycle and can be called an "indicator" of climate change. In this study, long-term changes of lakes' area and vegetation coverage in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP) and their relations to the climate change were analyzed by using Mann-Kendall method during the past 30years. Results showed that: 1) the lakes' area of the QTP increased significantly during the past 30years as a whole, and the increasing rates have been dramatically sped up since the year of 2000. Among them, the area of Ayakekumu Lake has the fastest growing rate of 51.35%, which increased from 618km2 in the 1980s to 983km2 in the 2010s; 2) overall, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) increased in the QTP during the past 30years. Above 79% of the area in the QTP showed increasing trend of NDVI before the year of 2000; 3) the air temperature increased significantly, the precipitation increased slightly, and the pan evaporation decreased significantly during the past 30years. The lake area and vegetation coverage changes might be related to the climate change. The shifts in the temporal climate trend occurred around the year 2000 had led the lake area and vegetation coverage increasing. This study is of importance in further understanding the environmental changes under global warming over the QTP.

Abstract
A facile synthesis of 1,3-azaphospholes with a pyrrolo[1,2- a]quinoline skeleton has been described. These new annulated 1,3-azaphospholes exhibit good photoelectric performance and can be used as the emitting dopant in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and dye for bioimaging.
