Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objectives are to assess smoking abstinence and its effects on vascular risk and to report tobacco-cessation counselling and pharmacotherapy use in patients who had a recent minor stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA). DESIGN AND SETTING The TIA registry.org project is a prospective, observational registry of patients with TIA and minor stroke that occurred in the previous 7 days with a 5-year follow-up, involving 61 sites with stroke specialists in 21 countries (Europe, Asia, Latin America and Middle East). Of those, 42 sites had 5-year follow-up data on more than 50% of their patients and were included in the present study. PARTICIPANTS From June 2009 through December 2011, 3847 patients were eligible for the study (80% of the initial cohort). OUTCOMES Tobacco counselling and smoking-cessation pharmacotherapy use in smoking patients were reported at discharge. Association between 3-month smoking status and risk of a major cardiovascular event (MACE) was analysed with multivariable Cox regression model. RESULTS Among 3801 patients included, 835 (22%) were smokers. At discharge, only 35.2% have been advised to quit and 12.5% had smoking-cessation pharmacotherapy prescription. At 3 months, 383/835 (46.9%) baseline smokers were continuers. Living alone and alcohol abuse were associated with persistent smoking; high level of education, aphasia and dyslipidaemia with quitting. The adjusted HRs for MACE at 5 years were 1.13 (95% CI 0.90 to 1.43) in former smokers, 1.31 (95% CI 0.93 to 1.84) in quitters and 1.31 (95% CI 0.94 to 1.83) in continuers. Using time-varying analysis, current smoking at the time of MACE non-significantly increased the risk of MACE (HR 1.31 (95% CI 0.97 to 1.78); p=0.080). CONCLUSION In the TIAregistry.org, smoking-cessation intervention was used in a minority of patients. Surprisingly, in this population in which, at 5 years, other vascular risk factors were well controlled and antithrombotic treatment maintained, smoking cessation non-significantly decreased the risk of MACE.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To systematically evaluate the efficacy and superiority of Flunarizine Hydrochloride when combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Decoctions in treating migraine headaches. METHOD The authors conducted a comprehensive search for clinical Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) investigating the combination of Flunarizine Hydrochloride with Chinese herbal decoctions in treating migraines. The databases searched included CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, PubMed, WOI, Cochrane Library, and Embase, covering the period from January 1, 2019, to November 10, 2023. Two independent researchers meticulously screened, extracted, and assessed the relevant data, employing the Revman 5.3 software for meta-analysis. RESULTS The meta-analysis revealed that, in comparison to Flunarizine Hydrochloride used in isolation, the combination with Chinese herbal decoctions markedly enhanced the effective rate (RR = 1.26, 95 % CI [1.18, 1.34], p < 0.0001). Moreover, significant improvements were observed in the TCM symptom score (MD = 4.97, 95 % CI [-6.74, -3.19], p < 0.00001). The observation group demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in endothelin levels compared to the control group (I2 = 85 %, MD = -13.66, 95 % CI [-17.87, -9.45], p = 0.0001). The observation group showed a significant reduction in NRS scores compared to the control group, indicating better outcomes (I2 = 95 %, MD = -2.11, 95 % CI [-3.09, -1.12], p < 0.0001). The observation group was superior to the control group in terms of the reduction in the number of episodes (I2 = 63 %, MD = -1.16, 95 % CI [-1.45, -0.87], p = 0.007). CONCLUSIONS The confluence of Flunarizine Hydrochloride with traditional Chinese medicine decoctions in treating migraine patients demonstrated substantial clinical efficacy and improvement in TCM symptom score over the use of Flunarizine Hydrochloride alone.

Abstract
Purpose: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with multiple neuropsychiatric impairments, including cognitive dysfunction, and melatonin (MLT) plays a crucial role in maintaining normal neuropsychiatric functions. This study is aimed at investigating the change in plasma MLT levels and its association with neuropsychiatric impairments in T2DM patients. Methods: One hundred twenty-six T2DM patients were recruited, and their demographics and clinical data were collected. Apart from the plasma glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and other routine metabolic indicators, the plasma concentrations of MLT, C-reactive protein (CRP), Interleukin 6 (IL-6), soluble myeloid triggered receptor 1 (sTREM 1), and receptor 2 (sTREM 2) were measured. Moreover, the executive function and depressive tendency were evaluated via the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Adult Version (BRIEF-A) and the Epidemiological Research Center Depression Scale (CES-D), respectively. Result: Compared with the low HbA1c group, the T2DM patients in the high HbA1c group presented lower plasma MLT levels but higher plasma concentrations of inflammatory biomarker levels, together with higher scores in the BRIEF-A and CES-D scales. Moreover, results of the Pearson correlation test showed that the plasma MLT levels were negatively correlated with the BRIEF-A and CES-D scores, as well as plasma concentrations of HbA1c and inflammatory indications, indicating that MLT may mediate their neuroinflammation and neuropsychiatric impairments. Furthermore, the ROC curve results indicated that plasma MLT levels have a predictive effect on executive impairment and depressive status in T2DM patients. Conclusion: MLT levels decreased in patients with T2DM and were associated with neuropsychiatric impairments and inflammatory status, and MLT might be developed as a therapeutic agent and predictive indicator for T2DM-associated executive impairment and depression status.

Abstract
Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often experience worries related to travel due to frequent bowel movements. However, there is currently limited research focusing on the travel worries of patients with IBD. The aim of this study was to assess the level of worry regarding out-of-home activities in patients with IBD and identify factors associated with worry. Methods: This study included patients with IBD who visited the outpatient clinics between September 2020 and March 2022, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants completed a self-designed questionnaire, providing general clinical data and indicating their level of worry for out-of-home activities. Results: A total of 529 patients with IBD completed the questionnaire. Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) had a higher proportion of individuals under 40 years old and males compared to patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). Regarding out-of-home activities, patients with UC expressed greater worry about going out and taking buses than patients with CD. However, there were no significant differences observed between the two groups in terms of travel worries and worries about finding public washrooms. A significant majority (85.4%) of patients with clinically active IBD expressed worries about not finding public washrooms when going out, while 46.7% of patients in clinical remission had similar worries. Moreover, the worry about finding public washrooms was higher in patients with UC compared to those with CD, both during the clinical activity and remission. Conclusion: This survey conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic reported worries among patients with IBD about out-of-home activities. The patients with clinically active IBD, especially UC, expressed worries about not finding public washrooms when going out. We highlight the actual psychological and quality of life challenges faced by patients with IBD.

Abstract
South American coca (Erythroxylum coca and E. novogranatense) has been a keystone crop for many Andean and Amazonian communities for at least 8,000 years. However, over the last half-century, global demand for its alkaloid cocaine has driven intensive agriculture of this plant and placed it in the center of armed conflict and deforestation. To monitor the changing landscape of coca plantations, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime collects annual data on their areas of cultivation. However, attempts to delineate areas in which different varieties are grown have failed due to limitations around identification. In the absence of flowers, identification relies on leaf morphology, yet the extent to which this is reflected in taxonomy is uncertain. Here, we analyze the consistency of the current naming system of coca and its four closest wild relatives (the "coca clade"), using morphometrics, phylogenomics, molecular clocks, and population genomics. We include name-bearing type specimens of coca's closest wild relatives E. gracilipes and E. cataractarum. Morphometrics of 342 digitized herbarium specimens show that leaf shape and size fail to reliably discriminate between species and varieties. However, the statistical analyses illuminate that rounder and more obovate leaves of certain varieties could be associated with the subtle domestication syndrome of coca. Our phylogenomic data indicate extensive gene flow involving E. gracilipes which, combined with morphometrics, supports E. gracilipes being retained as a single species. Establishing a robust evolutionary-taxonomic framework for the coca clade will facilitate the development of cost-effective genotyping methods to support reliable identification.

Abstract
Background: The stage of tooth formation is one of the most reliable indicators for predicting a patient's developmental age by radiographs. This study compared the accuracy of three distinct dental age estimation methods (Demirjian, Nolla, and Willems) in children aged 3-17 in the northern Iranian population. Methods: This cross-sectional study examined panoramic radiographs of 434 children aged 3-17 from Mazandaran Province, Iran, who had teeth 31-37 present on the left mandible. This study employed the Demirjian, Nolla, and Willems methods to estimate the dental age of the sample and compare it with the chronological age. The data were analyzed using SPSS v16. A paired t-test was used to compare chronological and dental ages. The Pearson correlation was used to correlate the chronological and dental ages. The errors of different methods were compared using the Wilcoxon test. P values < 0.05 were considered significant for all tests except Wilcoxon. For Wilcoxon, a P value < 0.017 was considered significant. Results: The three methods presented differing mean estimated ages. The Demirjian method delivered the highest mean, and all three methods differed significantly when compared in pairs. The results showed that the Demirjian method overestimated chronological age by 0.25 years (P < 0.001) in girls and 0.09 years (P = 0.28) in boys. The Willems method underestimated chronological age by 0.05 years (P = 0.47) in girls and 0.12 years (P = 0.13) in boys. The Nolla method underestimated chronological age by 0.41 years (P < 0.001) in girls and 0.40 years (P < 0.001) in boys. The accuracy of each method varied with the patient's age. Conclusion: According to the findings, the Willems method outperformed the Demirjian method, and the Demirjian method exceeded the Nolla method for estimating dental age in Iranian children aged 3-17. Overall, the Demirjian method overestimated the age of the study population, whereas the other two underestimated it.

Abstract
Protein materials are versatile tools in diverse biomedical fields. Among them, artificial secretory granules (SGs), mimicking those from the endocrine system, act as mechanically stable reservoirs for the sustained release of proteins as oligomeric functional nanoparticles. Only validated in oncology, the physicochemical properties of SGs, along with their combined drug-releasing and scaffolding abilities, make them suitable as smart topographies in regenerative medicine for the prolonged delivery of growth factors (GFs). Thus, considering the need for novel, safe, and cost-effective materials to present GFs, in this study, we aimed to biofabricate a protein platform combining both endocrine-like and extracellular matrix fibronectin-derived (ECM-FN) systems. This approach is based on the sustained delivery of a nanostructured histidine-tagged version of human fibroblast growth factor 2. The GF is presented onto polymeric surfaces, interacting with FN to spontaneously generate nanonetworks that absorb and present the GF in the solid state, to modulate mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) behavior. The results show that SGs-based topographies trigger high rates of MSCs proliferation while preventing differentiation. While this could be useful in cell therapy manufacture demanding large numbers of unspecialized MSCs, it fully validates the hybrid platform as a convenient setup for the design of biologically active hybrid surfaces and in tissue engineering for the controlled manipulation of mammalian cell growth.

Abstract
Perovskite nanocrystals hold significant promise for a wide range of applications, including solar cells, LEDs, photocatalysts, humidity and temperature sensors, memory devices, and low-cost photodetectors. Such technological potential stems from their exceptional quantum efficiency and charge carrier conduction capability. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanisms of photoexcitation, such as phase segregation, annealing, and ionic diffusion, remain insufficiently understood. In this context, we harnessed hyperspectral fluorescence microspectroscopy to advance our comprehension of fluorescence enhancement triggered by UV continuous-wave (cw) laser irradiation of CsPbBr3 colloidal nanocrystal thin films. Initially, we explored the kinetics of fluorescence enhancement and observed that its efficiency (φph) correlates with the laser power (P), following the relationship φph = 7.7⟨P⟩0.47±0.02. Subsequently, we estimated the local temperature induced by the laser, utilizing the finite-difference method framework, and calculated the activation energy (Ea) required for fluorescence enhancement to occur. Our findings revealed a very low activation energy, Ea ∼ 9 kJ/mol. Moreover, we mapped the fluorescence photoenhancement by spatial scanning and real-time static mode to determine its microscale length. Below a laser power of 60 μW, the photothermal diffusion length exhibited nearly constant values of approximately (22 ± 5) μm, while a significant increase was observed at higher laser power levels. These results were ascribed to the formation of nanocrystal superclusters within the film, which involves the interparticle spacing reduction, creating the so-called quantum dot solid configuration along with laser-induced annealing for higher laser powers.

Abstract
The development of multidimensional structured electrode materials with simple synthetic methods and their electrochemical sensing ability against environmental pollution is still a challenge. In this article, we propose a hybrid formed using multidimensional (3D/2D) vanadium diselenide microspheres and tungsten diselenide nanosheets (VSe2/WSe2) for the electrochemical detection of 5-nitroquinoline (5-NQ), a highly toxic and hazardous substance that is polluting aquatic life due to increasing industrial activities. The 3D/2D VSe2/WSe2 hybrids were prepared by a simple solvothermal method and their morphological and structural analysis was confirmed by various spectroscopy and analytical techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and differential pulse voltammetry. The proposed 3D/2D architecture showed a strong synergistic effect between the two components as well as high electrical conductivity. As a result, an increased peak current for the reduction and detection of 5-NQ was achieved compared to other modified and unmodified disposable screen-printed electrodes (SPE), such as bare SPE, VSe2/SPE, and WSe2/SPE. Under the optimized electrochemical conditions, VSe2/WSe2/SPE showed large linear response ranges (0.012-1053, 1183-3474 μM), a low detection limit (0.002 μM), good sensitivity along with good selectivity, and repeatability for the detection of 5-NQ. With this prominent electrochemical behavior, the VSe2/WSe2 electrode has clear potential to produce high-performance sensor devices.

Abstract
Two different types of electrolytes (co-solvent and multi-salt) are tested for use in high voltage LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4||Si/graphite full cells and compared against a carbonate-based standard LiPF6 containing electrolyte (baseline). Ex situ postmortem XPS analysis on both anodes and cathodes over the life span of the cells reveals a continuously growing SEI and CEI for the baseline electrolyte. The cells cycled in the co-solvent electrolyte exhibited a relatively thick and long-term stable CEI (on LNMO), while a slowly growing SEI was determined to form on the Si/graphite. The multi-salt electrolyte offers more inorganic-rich SEI/CEI while also forming the thinnest SEI/CEI observed in this study. Cross-talk is identified in the baseline electrolyte cell, where Si is detected on the cathode, and Mn is detected on the anode. Both the multi-salt and co-solvent electrolytes are observed to substantially reduce this cross-talk, where the co-solvent is found to be the most effective. In addition, Al corrosion is detected for the multi-salt electrolyte mainly at its end-of-life stage, where Al can be found on both the anode and cathode. Although the co-solvent electrolyte offers superior interface properties in terms of the limitation of cross-talk, the multi-salt electrolyte offers the best overall performance, suggesting that interface thickness plays a superior role compared to cross-talk. Together with their electrochemical cycling performance, the results suggest that multi-salt electrolyte provides a better long-term passivation of the electrodes for high-voltage cells.

Abstract
Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based composite electrolytes (PCEs) are considered as promising candidates for next-generation lithium-metal batteries (LMBs) due to their high safety, easy fabrication, and good electrochemical stability. Here, we utilize operando grazing-incidence small-angle and wide-angle X-ray scattering to probe the correlation of electrochemically induced changes and the buried morphology and crystalline structure of the PCE. Results show that the two irreversible reactions, PEO-Li+ reduction and TFSI- decomposition, cause changes in the crystalline structure, array orientation, and morphology of the PCE. In addition, the reversible Li plating/stripping process alters the inner morphology, especially the PEO-LiTFSI domain radius and distance between PEO-LiTFSI domains, rather than causing crystalline structure and orientation changes. This work provides a new path to monitor a working battery in real time and to a detailed understanding of the Li+ diffusion mechanism, which is essential for developing highly transferable and interface-stable PCE-based LMBs.

Abstract
Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have garnered substantial attention in breeze wind energy harvesting. However, how to improve the output performance and reduce friction and wear remain challenging. To this end, a blade-type triboelectric-electromagnetic hybrid generator (BT-TEHG) with a double frequency up-conversion (DFUC) mechanism is proposed. The DFUC mechanism enables the TENG to output a high-frequency response that is 15.9 to 300 times higher than the excitation frequency of 10 to 200 rpm. Coupled with the collisions between tribomaterials, a higher surface charge density and better generating performance are achieved. The magnetization direction and dimensional parameters of the BT-TEHG were optimized, and its generating characteristics under varying rotational speeds and electrical boundary conditions were studied. At wind speeds of 2.2 and 10 m/s, the BT-TEHG can generate, respectively, power of 1.30 and 19.01 mW. Further experimentation demonstrates its capacity to charge capacitors, light up light emitting diodes (LEDs), and power wireless temperature and humidity sensors. The demonstrations show that the BT-TEHG has great potential applications in self-powered wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for environmental monitoring of intelligent agriculture.

Abstract
GO/noGO tasks enable assessing decision-making processes and the ability to suppress a specific action according to the context. Here, rats had to discriminate between 2 visual stimuli (GO or noGO) shown on an iPad screen. The execution (for GO) or nonexecution (for noGO) of the selected action (to touch or not the visual display) were reinforced with food. The main goal was to record and to analyze local field potentials collected from cortical and subcortical structures when the visual stimuli were shown on the touch screen and during the subsequent activities. Rats were implanted with recording electrodes in the prelimbic cortex, primary motor cortex, nucleus accumbens septi, basolateral amygdala, dorsolateral and dorsomedial striatum, hippocampal CA1, and mediodorsal thalamic nucleus. Spectral analyses of the collected data demonstrate that the prelimbic cortex was selectively involved in the cognitive and motivational processing of the learning task but not in the execution of reward-directed behaviors. In addition, the other recorded structures presented specific tendencies to be involved in these 2 types of brain activity in response to the presentation of GO or noGO stimuli. Spectral analyses, spectrograms, and coherence between the recorded brain areas indicate their specific involvement in GO vs. noGO tasks.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gut microbiota dysbiosis significantly contributes to progression of depression. Hypericum perforatum L. (HPL) is traditionally used in Europe for treating depression. However, its mechanism remains largely underexplored. PURPOSE This study aims to investigate the pivotal gut microbiota species and microbial signaling metabolites associated with the antidepressant effects of HPL. METHODS Fecal microbiota transplantation was used to assess whether HPL mitigates depression through alterations in gut microbiota. Microbiota and metabolic profiling of control, chronic restraint stress (CRS)-induced depression, and HPL-treated CRS mice were examined using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metabolomics analysis. The influence of gut microbiota on HPL's antidepressant effects was assessed by metabolite and bacterial intervention experiments. RESULTS HPL significantly alleviated depression symptoms in a manner dependent on gut microbiota and restored gut microbial composition by enriching Akkermansia muciniphila (AKK). Metabolomic analysis indicated that HPL regulated tryptophan metabolism, reducing kynurenine (KYN) levels derived from microbiota and increasing 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) levels. Notably, supplementation with KYN activated the NFκB-NLRP2-Caspase1-IL1β pathway and increased proinflammatory IL1β in the hippocampus of mice with depression. Interestingly, mono-colonization with AKK notably increased 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and decreased KYN levels, ameliorating depression symptoms through modulation of the NFκB-NLRP2-Caspase1-IL1β pathway. CONCLUSIONS The promising therapeutic role of HPL in treating depression is primarily attributed to its regulation of the NFκB-NLRP2-Caspase1-IL1β pathway, specifically by targeting AKK and tryptophan metabolites.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies have addressed whether using manager or worker perceptions of safety policies and practices alone predict reported injury rates less accurately than using both. OBJECTIVE This study provides an example and describes a method that can be used to address this issue with survey instruments designed to measure safety climate, policies, or practices. METHODS Using multilevel logistic regression, we estimated the relationship between worker and manager perceptions of a given exposure and the odds of worker injury during the post-survey year for three safety scales. We tested whether surveying both workers and managers provides additional predictive value compared with surveying just one group. RESULTS Injury in the year following the survey was significantly associated with worker scores on two of the three scales. Manager responses were not significantly associated with injury and did not significantly improve injury rate prediction when added to a model with only worker survey responses. CONCLUSIONS The capacity of manager-only or worker-only perceptions of safety policies and practices to predict worker injuries should be established before choosing to survey just one or the other. The approach and findings in this paper can be applied to other survey instruments and in other settings to help make this choice.

Abstract
The 11S globulin legumin typically accounts for approximately 3% of the total protein in common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris). It was previously reported that a legumin peptide of approximately 20 kDa is resistant to pepsin digestion. Sequence prediction suggested that the pepsin-resistant peptide is located at the C-terminal end of the α-subunit, within a glutamic acid-rich domain, overlapping with a chymotrypsin-resistant peptide. Using purified legumin, the peptide of approximately 20 kDa was found to be resistant to pepsin digestion in a pH-dependent manner, and its location was determined by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and LC-MS-MS. The location of the chymotrypsin-resistant peptide was confirmed by immunoblotting with peptide-specific polyclonal antibodies. The presence of a consensus site for proline hydroxylation and arabinosylation, the detection of hydroxyproline residues, purification by lectin affinity chromatography, and a difference in electrophoretic migration between the chymotrypsin- and pepsin-resistant peptides suggest the presence of a large O-glycan within these peptides.

Abstract
Clinical guidelines are recommendations for healthcare providers regarding patients with specific conditions. These guidelines should be based on practice experience and the best available research evidence. However, guidelines developed by various health organisations worldwide often do not agree with each other. This is also true for the current guidelines for the clinical use of probiotics. This article aims to provide examples of conflicting clinical guidelines for probiotics, define reasons for this phenomenon, describe standard tools for improving their quality, and suggest ways to enhance the development and assessment of suitable clinical guidelines for the appropriate clinical use of probiotics in specific conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Platelet dysfunction plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Despite clinical observations indicating abnormalities in platelet parameters among IBD patients, inconsistencies persist, and these parameters lack standardization for diagnosis or clinical assessment. METHODS A comprehensive search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases for relevant articles published up to December 16th, 2023. A random-effects model was employed to pool the weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of platelet count (PLT), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), and plateletcrit (PCT) between IBD patients and healthy controls, and subgroup analyses were performed. RESULTS The meta-analysis included 79 articles with 8,350 IBD patients and 13,181 healthy individuals. The results revealed significantly increased PLT and PCT levels (WMD: 69.910, 95% CI: 62.177, 77.643 109/L; WMD: 0.046%, 95% CI: 0.031%, 0.061%), and decreased MPV levels (WMD: -0.912, 95% CI: -1.086, -0.739 fL) in IBD patients compared to healthy individuals. No significant difference was found in PDW between the IBD and control groups (WMD: -0.207%, 95% CI: -0.655%, 0.241%). Subgroup analysis by disease type and disease activity showed no change in the differences for PLT, PCT, and MPV in the ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease groups, as well as the active and inactive groups. Notably, the active group exhibited significantly lower PDW levels than the control group (WMD: -1.138%, 95% CI: -1.535%, -0.741%). CONCLUSIONS Compared with healthy individuals, IBD patients display significantly higher PLT and PCT and significantly lower MPV. Monitoring the clinical manifestations of platelet abnormalities serves as a valuable means to obtain diagnostic and prognostic information. Conversely, proactive measures should be taken to prevent the consequences of platelet abnormalities in individuals with IBD. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION PROSPERO CRD42023493848.

Abstract
Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between ARF and coagulopathy in patients with sepsis and to explore the prognostic value of these conditions. Patients and Methods The data of 271 patients with sepsis-associated coagulopathy admitted from June 2021 to June 2022 were reviewed. The patients were divided into a survival group and a nonsurviving group according to patient prognosis. Independent sample t tests were utilized to compare laboratory parameters within 24 hours of admission, as well as the APACHE II and SOFA scores, between the two patient groups. According to the sepsis-associated coagulation dysfunction (SAC) grading criteria for grading, Spearman correlation analysis was used to study the relationship between blood creatinine and SAC grading and assignment scores, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and Cox's proportional risk regression model were used to explore the factors affecting the prognosis of SAC patients. Results Spearman correlation analysis revealed strong associations between serum creatinine (Scr) concentration, SAC classification, and SAC score, with coefficients above 0.7. SAC classification outcomes varied significantly with severity: mild severity had a 77.6% survival rate versus 22.4% mortality; moderate severity had 21.5% survival versus 78.5% mortality; and severe cases had a 0.7% survival rate versus 99.3% mortality (P<0.01 for all). Multivariate analysis revealed significant predictors of outcome, including multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), with an OR of 2.070 (P=0.019); the SOFA score (OR=1.200, P<0.01); the international normalized ratio (INR) (OR=0.72, P=0.013); and the Scr level (OR=0.995, P<0.01). The areas under the ROC curves for the SOFA score, APACHE II score, and SAC classification were >0.8, all P < 0.05. Conclusion In patients with sepsis, SAC grade 3 or a SAC score of 4 or higher is associated with poorer prognosis, and the interaction of acute kidney injury exacerbates the degree of SAC, consequently affecting prognosis.

Abstract
We aimed to measure the association between Trypanosoma cruzi infection in pregnancy and reduced fetal growth in the absence of T. cruzi congenital transmission. We conducted a cross-sectional study of secondary data of all singleton live births between 2011 and 2013 in five hospitals from Argentina, Honduras, and Mexico. We excluded newborns with T. cruzi infection. Noninfected pregnant people were those without any positive rapid tests. The main study outcomes were birth weight, head circumference, and length for gestational age and sex. Logistic regression models were adjusted for country, age, education level, and obstetric history. Of the 26,544 deliveries, 459 (1.7%) pregnant people were found by rapid tests to be positive for T. cruzi. Of these, 320 were positive by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and 231 had a positive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Uninfected newborns from T. cruzi-infected pregnant people were more likely to have birth weights below the 5th and 10th percentiles and head circumferences below the 3rd and 10th percentiles. Among T. cruzi-infected pregnant people diagnosed by PCR, the odds ratios were 1.58 for birth weight below the 10th percentile (95% CI, 1.12-2.23) and 1.57 for birth weight below the 5th percentile (95% CI, 1.02-2.42). Higher T. cruzi parasitic loads in pregnancy had a stronger association with reduced fetal growth (both in birth weight and head circumference), with an odds ratio of 2.31 (95% CI, 1.36-3.91) for a birth weight below the 5th percentile. The association shows, irrespective of causality, that newborns of pregnancies with T. cruzi have an increased risk of reduced fetal growth. We recommend further studies to assess other potential confounders and the causality of these associations.

Abstract
Despite the weak, van der Waals interlayer coupling, photoinduced charge transfer vertically across atomically thin interfaces can occur within surprisingly fast, sub-50 fs time scales. An early theoretical understanding of charge transfer is based on a noninteracting picture, neglecting excitonic effects that dominate optical properties of such materials. We employ an ab initio many-body perturbation theory approach, which explicitly accounts for the excitons and phonons in the heterostructure. Our large-scale first-principles calculations directly probe the role of exciton-phonon coupling in the charge dynamics of the WS2/MoS2 heterobilayer. We find that the exciton-phonon interaction induced relaxation time of photoexcited excitons at the K valley of MoS2 and WS2 is 67 and 15 fs at 300 K, respectively, which sets a lower bound to the intralayer-to-interlayer exciton transfer time and is consistent with experiment reports. We further show that electron-hole correlations facilitate novel transfer pathways that are otherwise inaccessible to noninteracting electrons and holes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The long-term oncological outcomes and risk factors for recurrence after lung segmentectomy are unclear. The aims of this study were to investigate the long-term prognosis and to evaluate risk factors for recurrence after segmentectomy. METHODS Between January 2008 and December 2012, a total of 177 patients underwent segmentectomy for clinical stage I non-small cell lung cancer. The median follow-up period was 120.1 months. The overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival curves were analysed using the Kaplan-Meier method with a log-rank test. Univariable and multivariable analyses were used to identify significant factors that predicted recurrence. RESULTS The study included 177 patients with a median age of 67 years. The median operative time was 155 min. No 30-day deaths were observed. Nine patients (5.1%) had recurrences: loco-regional in 3, distant in 3 and both in 3. The 5-year and 10-year recurrence-free survival rates were 89.7% and 79.8%, and the OS rates were 90.9% and 80.4%, respectively. On multivariable analysis, the risk factor associated with recurrence was a pure solid tumour [hazard ratio, 23.151; 95% confidence interval 2.575-208.178; P = 0.005]. The non-pure solid tumour group had a significantly better probability of survival (5-year OS: 95.4% vs 77.2%; 10-year OS: 86.5% vs 61.8%; P < 0.0001). A total of 113 patients received preoperative positron emission tomography/computed tomography. Patients with a higher maximum standardized uptake value had a significantly higher recurrence rate. CONCLUSIONS Segmentectomy for clinical stage I non-small cell lung cancer produced acceptable long-term outcomes. Pure solid radiographic appearance was associated with recurrence and decreased survival.

Abstract
This study examines the process of using injection moulding to join two different materials to manufacture bi-component moulded products with improved performance characteristics. The two-component process, which combines the advantages of two different technologies-the high efficiency of the injection moulding process and the excellent mechanical properties of long glass fibre composites produced by resin transfer moulding (RTM) technology-offers a particular advantage and improved applicability of the prepared lightweight products in both the automotive and aerospace sectors. The composite studied here consists of Elium® thermoplastic resin (30%) reinforced with unwoven glass fibre fabric (70%) using the RTM process. The Elium® composite sample is consequently used as an insert overmoulded with polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) homopolymer reinforced with 20% w/w of short glass fibre through injection moulding. The influence of different mould temperatures and surface treatments on the adhesion between the materials used is investigated by evaluating the mechanical performance using tensile shear strength tests. It was found that while an increase in mould temperature from 40 °C to 120 °C resulted in a doubling of the initial average bond strength between untreated Elium® RTM inserts and overmoulded PBT parts (0.9 MPa), sandblasting the inserts ensured a further tripling of the bond strength of the composites to a value of 5.4 MPa.

Abstract
This article presents research results regarding the development of a new manufacturing technology for an element assigned to belt conveyor flights in the extractive industry through hot die forging (of a forging with a double-sided flange) instead of the currently realized process of producing such an element by welding two flanges onto a sleeve or one flange onto a flange forging. The studies were conducted to design an innovative and low-waste technology, mainly with the use of numerical modelling and simulations, partially based on the current technology of producing a flange forging. Additionally, during the development of the forging process, the aspect of robotization was considered, both in respect of the forging tools and the process of transportation and relocation of forging between the impressions and the forging aggregates. A thermo-mechanical model of the process of producing a belt conveyor flight forging with deformable tools was elaborated by means of the Forge 3NxT program. The results of the conducted numerical modelling made it possible, among other things, to develop models of forging tools ensuring the proper manner of material flow and filling of the impressions, as well as temperature and plastic deformation distributions in the forging and also the detection of possible forging defects. For the technology elaborated this way, the tools were built together with a special instrument for flanging in the metal, and technological tests were performed under industrial conditions. The produced forgings were verified through a measurement of the geometry, by way of 3D scanning, as well as the hardness, which definitively confirmed the properness of the developed technology. The obtained technological test results made it possible to confirm that the elaborated construction, as well as the tool impressions, ensure the possibility of implementing the designed technology with the use of robotization and automatization of the forging process.
