Abstract
Experimental allergic neuritis (EAN) was induced in guinea-pigs by intradermal injection of rabbit peripheral nerve emulsified in Freund's adjuvant. Both sciatic nerves were obtained between 12--24 hr after clinical symptoms were evident. Several fascicles from each nerve were isolated for histochemical studies with NADH-diaphorase (NADH) and acid phosphatase (AP) applied to teased nerve fibres. Small pieces were processed for electron microscopy, and a fascicle was teased after staining with osmium tetroxide. In isolated nerve fibres stained with histochemical techniques myelin lesions of segmental character were found closely related to inflammatory cells; Schwann cell cytoplasm in contact with mononuclear cells showing a heavy enzymatic activity (NADH and AP). Under polarized light, the underliying myelin showed focal loss of birefringence. Some electron-microscopic pictures suggested active myelin breakdown by mononuclear cells. The possibility of primary Schwann cell damage by mononuclear cells with subsequent demyelination is discussed.

Abstract
Two cases of vesicoureteral reflux into intact, orthotopic ureteroceles are described. A review of the literature failed to reveal any similar reports. Insufficient submucosal ureteral length was thought to be the cause in each of the cases. Both patients were satisfactorily managed with standard ureteroneocystostomy after resection of the ureterocele.

Abstract
35S sulfate uptake by the articular cartilage chondrocytes, from biopsies of rabbit, have been studied by high resolution autoradiography. The Golgi apparatus, rough endoplasmic reticulum, cytosol, cytoplasmic membrane and extracellular space were considered as cell compartments in the quantitative analysis of the autoradiograms. The results obtained show: 1) a high activity of radiosotope incorporation in the Golgi apparatus; 2) a fast rhythm of transfer of the substances labelled in the Golgi apparatus to the cell membrane; 3) significant labelling of the rough endoplasmic reticulum, throughout the experiment. It is concluded: 1) The grains observed in the rough endoplasmic reticulum show a significant radioisotope uptake on this level, and this evidence some sulfotransferase activity. 2) The high 35S sulfate uptake level which is observed in the Golgi apparatus demonstrates that the highest sulfotransferase enzyme activity is located in this cell area, thus showing that the "early" sulfation that began in the rough endoplasmic reticulum was completed by a "late" sulfation in the Golgi apparatus. It is here that complete chondromucoprotein building takes place before being excreted. 3) The high transfer level of the labelled substances from the Golgi apparatus shows that the sulfated product secretion for building the cartilage matrix takes place rapidly since a great label increase can be already observed at the beginning of the chase period in the outer surrounding area of the chondrocyte membrane.

Abstract
Twenty Stage I and II children with Hodgkin's disease were treated with involved field radiation therapy. Twelve patients were Stage I. The histologic types were:nodular sclerosis(seven cases), mixed cellularity (two) and lymphocyte predominant (three). There were eight Stage II patients (six nodular sclerosis and two of mixed cellularity). One Stage I and 4 Stage II patients had class B disease. Involved field irradiation was used in these children after staging laparotomy showed no disease below the diaphragm. Eight of the 20 patients relapsed, five in lymph nodes adjacent to the primary site, two in areas across the diaphragm; the other had both local and distant extension. The median time to relapse after completion of radiation therapy for Stage I and II were 15 and 5 months, respectively. Two of the eight children with recurrent disease are dead. The other six were retreated and are alive and free of disease for periods ranging from 24 to 68 months after original treatment (median, 36 months). Two of the six survivors in this group received irradiation to the site of the recurrent disease only, one was given total nodal irradiation, and three had chemotherapy. The other 12 patients are in continuous first remission. They have been followed for a median time of 26 months. The actuarial relapse-free survival and survival rates at 3 years are 57 and 89%, respectively.

Abstract
Fourteen patients with 16 metastatic ostogenic sarcoma lesions were treated with high-dose methotrexate (HDMTX) with citrovorum factor rescue (CFR), adriamycin, and pulse high-dose cyclophosphamide combined with radiation therapy. Thirteen of 16 lesions responded. Responses consisted of relief of pain (6/6 patients) in bone lesions, roentgenographic and clinical evidence of decrease in the size of the bone lesions (6/7 patients), and a decrease in the size of pulmonary metastases (2/4 patients). The 2 patients whose pulmonary metastases responded to combined therapy developed pulmonary fibrosis and pneumonitis in the treated areas 3 months after radiation therapy (RT) (1400 and 1600 rads respectively). Of two bulky primary tumors that appeared to respond, both were ultimately found to contain viable tumor; a third less bulky primary tumor appeared to respond more completely. Three smaller metastatic bone lesions that were ultimately biopsied showed no evidence of active tumor. It is concluded that: 1) combination therapy (particularly HDMTX and RT) has an additive effect in controlling osteogenic sarcoma bone lesions, but bulky primary tumors cannot be completely eradicated; 2) although synergistic in treating osteogenic sarcoma, combination therapy can produce enhanced toxicity in surrounding normal lung tissue; and 3) combination therapy is of value in the palliative treatment of metastatic lesions other than that of lung, and in the treatment of small primary bone lesions. However, experience to date does not justify the delay in surgical ablation of a primary lesion in a child who presents without metastatic disease.

Abstract
Intraamniotic pressure was studied in the 30th week of amenorrhea in relationship with fetal intracranial pressure with open-tip catheters. The fetus had a severe hydrocephalus (echoscopy 16 cm) due to a teratologic malformation of the cerebrum. Clinically nonoperative treatment was indicated. Intracranial pressure (X) was invariably higher than intraamniotic pressure (Y) between contractions: Y = 2.04 + 0.54 X, and during contractions: Y = 5.30 + 0.55 X. There was no definite relationship between intrauterine and intracranial pressure, and the fetal tachogram. A definite relationship was established with the supine position of the patient and decelerations in the fetal tachogram. It is suggested that when fetal cardiac decelerations are seen during the first stage of labor it seems advisable to look for factors such as umbilical cord compression and decrease of materno-placental perfusion rather than fetal head compression.

Abstract
Mutability of enzyme activities (phosphorylase, succinic dehydrogenase, cytochrome oxidase) of red and white fibers was studied in rat quadriceps subjected to normal physiologic chronic exercises. A rise in phosphorylase activity was found in weight lifting and to a greater extent in running rats when muscle was taken as a whole, but both exercises resulted in equal increments for succinic dehydrogenase and cytochrome oxydase activities. Intraregional comparisons, however, revealed the greatest relative rise of succinic dehydrogenase activity in those fibers that were regarded as predominantly anaerobic in type. This effect was seen only with running and not with weight lifting. Statistically unproved but frequently observed after running in some of the preparations was a rise of phosphorylase activity in red fibers, although to a lesser degree than in white. Thus, in contrast to the dichotomy apparent in electrophysiologic events in nerve and its dependent muscle, metabolic demands may alter what is regarded normally as fixed fiber enzyme patterns. Whole muscle cannot be studied as a biochemical entity because of diverse regional responses to the same stimuli. Endurance exercise (running) and brief, forceful exercise (weight lifting) produced quantitatively different regional changes in succinic dehydrogenase and probably in phosphorylase activities.
