Evolution of the gene regulatory network of body axis by enhancer hijacking in amphioxus. eLife 2024; 13:e89615. Abstract
A central goal of evolutionary developmental biology is to decipher the evolutionary pattern of gene regulatory networks (GRNs) that control embryonic development, and the mechanism underlying GRNs evolution. The Nodal signaling that governs the body axes of deuterostomes exhibits a conserved GRN orchestrated principally by Nodal, Gdf1/3, and Lefty. Here we show that this GRN has been rewired in cephalochordate amphioxus. We found that while the amphioxus Gdf1/3 ortholog exhibited nearly no embryonic expression, its duplicate Gdf1/3-like, linked to Lefty, was zygotically expressed in a similar pattern as Lefty. Consistent with this, while Gdf1/3-like mutants showed defects in axial development, Gdf1/3 mutants did not. Further transgenic analyses showed that the intergenic region between Gdf1/3-like and Lefty could drive reporter gene expression as that of the two genes. These results indicated that Gdf1/3-like has taken over the axial development role of Gdf1/3 in amphioxus, possibly through hijacking Lefty enhancers. We finally demonstrated that, to compensate for the loss of maternal Gdf1/3 expression, Nodal has become an indispensable maternal factor in amphioxus and its maternal mutants caused axial defects as Gdf1/3-like mutants. We therefore demonstrated a case that the evolution of GRNs could be triggered by enhancer hijacking events. This pivotal event has allowed the emergence of a new GRN in extant amphioxus, presumably through a stepwise process. In addition, the co-expression of Gdf1/3-like and Lefty achieved by a shared regulatory region may have provided robustness during body axis formation, which provides a selection-based hypothesis for the phenomena called developmental system drift.

Abstract
Introduction Malocclusion, a common oral health problem in children, is associated with several contributing factors. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of mixed dentition stage malocclusion and its contributing factors in Chinese Zhuang children aged 7-8 years. Methods Overall, 2,281 Zhuang children, about 7-8 years old, were randomly selected using a stratified whole-cluster sampling method from schools in counties in Northwestern Guangxi, China. The children were examined on-site for malocclusion and caries by trained dentists, and basic data on the children were collected using questionnaires, including age, sex, parental education, parental accompaniment, and children's knowledge of malocclusion and treatment needs. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. Results The total prevalence of malocclusion in Zhuang children aged 7-8 years was 58.5%, with the highest prevalence of anterior crossbite tendency, and the prevalence of anterior crossbite and anterior edge-to-edge occlusion was 15.1% and 7.7%, respectively. This was followed by an anterior increased overjet of 13.3% and an inter-incisor spacing of 10.3%. The lowest prevalence was 2.7% for anterior open bite. Sex, parental accompaniment, parental education, and decayed, missing, and filled teeth of the first primary molar were factors that contributed to malocclusion in Zhuang children. Conclusion Malocclusion is a common oral problem among Zhuang children. Therefore, more attention must be paid to the intervention and prevention of malocclusion. The impact factors should be controlled as early as possible.

Observation of WZγ Production in pp Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:021802. Abstract
This Letter reports the observation of WZγ production and a measurement of its cross section using 140.1±1.2 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The WZγ production cross section, with both the W and Z bosons decaying leptonically, pp→WZγ→ℓ^{'}^{±}νℓ^{+}ℓ^{-}γ (ℓ^{(^{'})}=e, μ), is measured in a fiducial phase-space region defined such that the leptons and the photon have high transverse momentum and the photon is isolated. The cross section is found to be 2.01±0.30(stat)±0.16(syst) fb. The corresponding standard model predicted cross section calculated at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics and at leading order in the electroweak coupling constant is 1.50±0.06 fb. The observed significance of the WZγ signal is 6.3σ, compared with an expected significance of 5.0σ.

Abstract
A measurement of time-dependent CP violation in the decays of B^{0} and B[over ¯]^{0} mesons to the final states J/ψ(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0}, ψ(2S)(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0} and J/ψ(→e^{+}e^{-})K_{S}^{0} with K_{S}^{0}→π^{+}π^{-} is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The CP-violation parameters are measured to be S_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.717±0.013(stat)±0.008(syst) and C_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.008±0.012(stat)±0.003(syst). This measurement of S_{ψK_{S}^{0}} represents the most precise single measurement of the CKM angle β to date and is more precise than the current world average. In addition, measurements of the CP-violation parameters of the individual channels are reported and a combination with the LHCb Run 1 measurements is performed.

Abstract
Solid-state distillation is a distinctive process for extracting the baijiu aroma compounds that determine the flavor character of baijiu. In this study, the changes in various chemical properties of the aroma compounds in three classical Jiangxiangxing baijiu fermented grain distillation processes were analyzed. The changes in the aroma compounds in the instantaneous distillates were quantified and correlation analyzes were conducted. The results showed that the effect of the aroma compounds was greater than the differences between the fermented grains. Eleven representative aroma compounds were selected to develop the kinetic models describing two opposing changes. For the regulation of the Jiangxiangxing baijiu aroma compounds, their recovery rates were calculated using a kinetic model. A comprehensive comparison of the recovery rates of the characteristic aroma and other aroma compounds at different cut-off values revealed that the optimum recovery rate of the characteristic aroma of Jiangxiangxing baijiu 2,3,5,6-tetramethylpyrazine was 14.53% at cut-off values of 3.9 and 19.8 min. In this study, representative changes in the aroma compounds and the selection of cut-off values to regulate the baijiu distillation aroma were proposed.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the role and related mechanisms of the LiaSR two-component system in acid tolerance and biofilm formation abilities of Streptococcus mutans (Sm) 593. Methods: The growth curves of various Sm strains in pH=5.5 brian heart infusion (BHI) medium were analyzed. And colony forming unit (CFU) was also performed to evaluate the acid tolerance of Sm. Laurdan probe, H+-K+adenosine triphosphate (ATP)ase activity analysis kit, proton permeability assay and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) were conducted to detect the acid tolerant mechanisms of LiaSR two-component system in Sm. Crystal violet staining, CFU, SYTOX probe and anthrone-sulfuric method were used to analyze the properties and structures of the Sm biofilms. RT-qPCR was conducted to detect the expression levels of underlying regulated genes. Results: The growth of mutants in acidic BHI were inhibited (P<0.05). The acid tolerance of mutants significantly decreased compared to the wild-type strain (P<0.05). In mutants, the activity of H+-ATPase (917.06±59.53 and 469.53±47.65) were elevated by 7.22-folds and 3.70-folds compared to the wild-type strain (127.00±50.71) (P<0.001, P<0.001) and the encoded gene atpD (3.39±0.21 and 1.94±0.17) were also elevated by 3.39-folds and 1.94-folds compared to the wild-type strain (1.00±0.15) (P<0.001, P=0.001). The Laurdan generalized polarization of mutants (0.18±0.04 and 0.18±0.05) increased significantly compared to the wild-type strain (0.08±0.05) (P=0.006, P=0.003) and the expression levels of fabM gene were decreased in mutants (0.52±0.11 and 0.57±0.05) by 1/2 (P=0.014, P=0.022). In liaR deletion mutant, the reduced terminal pH (4.76±0.01) can also be observed (P<0.001). The total amount of the biofilms of three Sm didn't show significant differences (P>0.05). But the number of viable bacteria of mutants' biofilms were decreased [Sm 593: (12.00±2.80)×107 CFU/ml; Sm ΔliaS: (2.95±1.13)×107 CFU/ml; Sm ΔliaR: (7.25±1.60)×107 CFU/ml] (P=0.001, P=0.024). The extracellular DNA were increased by 18.00-folds and 6.50-folds in mutants' biofilms (128.73±15.65 and 46.38±5.52) compared to the wild-type strain (7.16±3.62) (P<0.001, P=0.003). Water-soluble exopolysaccharides could be found up-regulated in liaS deletion mutant [(138.73±10.12) μg/ml] (P=0.003) along with the expression level of gtfC gene (1.65±0.39) (P=0.014). The expression level of gtfD were elevated by 47.43-folds and 16.90-folds in mutants (P<0.001, P=0.010). Conclusions: The LiaSR two-component system can promote the expression of fabM gene and increase the fluidity of Sm which contributes to acid tolerance. The LiaR can also decrease the proton permeability and restrict the entrance of H+. The LiaSR two-component system can negatively regulate the production of the extracellular matrix in Sm biofilm.

Remnant cholesterol is associated with hip BMD and low bone mass in young and middle-aged men: a cross-sectional study. J Endocrinol Invest 2024:10.1007/s40618-023-02279-x. [PMID: 38183565 DOI: 10.1007/s40618-023-02279-x] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 09/02/2023] [Accepted: 12/08/2023] [Indexed: 01/08/2024]
Abstract
PURPOSE Remnant cholesterol (RC) is a contributor to cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. However, the specific relationship between RC and bone metabolism remains unexplored. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationships of RC with hip bone mineral density (BMD) and the risk of low bone mass. METHODS Physical examination data was collected from men aged < 60 years as part of the Kailuan Study between 2014 and 2018. The characteristics of the participants were compared between RC quartile groups. A generalized linear regression model was used to evaluate the relationship between RC and hip BMD and a logistic regression model was used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for low bone mass. Additional analyses were performed after stratification by body mass index (BMI) (≥ or < 24 kg/m2). Sensitivity analyses were performed by excluding individuals who were taking lipid-lowering therapy or had cancer, cardiovascular diseases, or diabetes. RESULTS Data from a total of 7,053 participants were included in the analysis. After adjustment for confounding factors, RC negatively correlated with hip BMD (β = - 0.0079, 95% CI: - 0.0133, - 0.0025). The risk of low bone mass increased from the lowest to the highest RC quartile, with ORs of 1 (reference), 1.09 (95% CI: (0.82, 1.44), 1.35 (95%CI: 1.02, 1.77), and 1.43 (95% CI: 1.09, 1.89) for Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4, respectively (P for trend = 0.004) in the fully adjusted model. Compared to RC < 0.80 mmol/l group, the risk of low bone mass increased 39% in RC ≥ 0.80 mmol/l group (P < 0.001). The correlation between RC and hip BMD was stronger in participants with BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2 group (β = - 0.0159, 95% CI: - 0.0289, - 0.0029). The results of sensitivity analyses were consistent with the main results. CONCLUSION We have identified a negative correlation between serum RC and hip BMD, and a higher RC concentration was found to be associated with a greater risk of low bone mass in young and middle-aged men.

Abstract
Background Symptomatic sacral Tarlov cyst (STC) exerts a significant negative impact on the patient's quality of life, highlighting the significance of the increasing number of studies on STC. However, bibliometric analyses in this research field are scarce. Thus, this study aims to provide a comprehensive knowledge structure and identify the research trends of STC through bibliometrics. Methods Articles related to STC from 2000 to 2022 were sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection database. VOSviewer 1.6.16, CiteSpace 6.1.6, GraphPad Prism 8.2.1 and R-package "bibliometrix" were used to analyse the data and generate knowledge maps. Results A total of 930 studies on STC from 2000 to 2022 were included. The findings revealed a consistent yet upward trend in the number of annual publications in this field. The United States, China and Turkey were the most prolific and influential countries contributing to this field, with the University of Illinois, the University of Maryland and the National Institute of Standards & Technology being the most notable research institutions. Key journals include World Neurosurgery [Impact Factor (IF) = 2.210], Journal of Vascular Surgery (IF = 4.860) and Journal of Neurosurgery-Spine (IF = 3.467). Additionally, Tarlov Mj, Tarlov E and Zachariah Mr exhibit the highest number of publications, making them the leading authors in this field. A twenty-year retrospection of research trends using keyword analysis reveals four principal directions, namely "definition", "pathogenesis", "diagnosis" and "treatment". Currently, therapeutic surgical intervention is the key treatment for this disease, with future treatments primarily hinging on minimally invasive methodologies rooted in microendoscopic and endoscopic techniques. Conclusion This pioneering, comprehensive scientific bibliometric study provides a holistic summary of STC research trends and hot spots spanning the past 22 years. The results identify existing research frontiers and chart maps for future studies, serving as a valuable reference for scholars vested in this field.

Abstract
Background Very early distant metastasis (VEDM) for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) following surgery suggests failure of local treatment strategy and few biomarkers are available for its effective risk stratification. This study aimed to explore the potential of quantitative dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) spectral parameters and build models to predict VEDM. Methods Consecutive patients suspected of having CRC and with a clinical indication for enhanced CT from April 2021 to July 2022 at a single institution were prospectively enrolled to undertake spectral CT scanning. The spectral features were extracted by two reviewers and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used for interobserver agreement evaluation. A total of 16 spectral parameters, including unenhanced effective atomic number, triphasic iodine concentrations (ICs)/normalized ICs (NICs)-A/V/E/1/NIC-A/V/E/spectral curve slopes (λ-A/V/E), two arterial enhancement fractions (AEFs), and venous enhancement fraction (VEF), were determined for analysis. Patients with and without VEDM after surgery were matched using propensity score matching (PSM). The diagnostic performance was assessed using the area under the curve (AUC). Models of multiple modalities were generated. Results In total, 222 patients were included (141 males, age range, 32-83 years) and 13 patients developed VEDM. Interobserver agreement ranged from good to excellent (ICC, 0.773-0.964). A total of three spectral parameters (VEF, λ-V, and 1/NIC-V) exhibited significant discriminatory ability (P<0.05) in predicting VEDM, with AUCs of 0.822 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.667-0.926], 0.738 (95% CI: 0.573-0.866), and 0.713 (95% CI: 0.546-0.846) and optimal cutoff points of 67.16%, 2.46, and 2.44, respectively. The performance of these spectral parameters was validated in the entire cohort; the combined spectral model showed comparable efficiency to the combined clinical model [AUC, 0.771 (95% CI: 0.622-0.919) vs. 0.779 (95% CI: 0.663-0.894), P>0.05]; the clinical-spectral model achieved further improved AUC of 0.887 (95% CI: 0.812-0.962), which was significantly higher than the combined clinical model (P=0.015), yet not superior to the combined spectral model (P=0.078). Conclusions Novel spectral parameters showed potential in predicting VEDM in CRC following surgery in this preliminary study, which were closely related with spectral perfusion in the venous phase. However, further studies with larger samples are warranted.

Abstract
Thrombocytopenia is a critical complication after radiation therapy and exposure. Dysfunction of megakaryocyte development and platelet production are key pathophysiological stages in ionizing radiation (IR)-induced thrombocytopenia. Protein kinase C (PKC) plays an important role in regulating megakaryocyte development and platelet production. However, it remains unclear how PKC regulates IR-induced megakaryocyte apoptosis. In this study, we found that pretreatment of PKC pan-inhibitor Go6983 delayed IR-induced megakaryocyte apoptosis, and inhibited IR-induced mitochondrial membrane potential and ROS production in CMK cells. Moreover, suppressing PKC activation inhibited cleaved caspase3 expression and reduced p38 phosphorylation levels, and IR-induced PKC activation might be regulated by p53. In vivo experiments confirmed that Go6983 promoted platelet count recovery after 21 days of 3 Gy total body irradiation. Furthermore, Go6983 reduced megakaryocyte apoptosis, increased the number of megakaryocyte and polyploid formation in bone marrow, and improved the survival rate of 6 Gy total body irradiation. In conclusion, our results provided a potential therapeutic target for IR-induced thrombocytopenia.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to establish a nomogram based on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features to predict the very early recurrence (VER, less than 6 months) of intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC) after R0 resection. METHODS This study enrolled a group of 193 IMCC patients from our institution between March 2010 and January 2022. Patients were allocated into the development cohort (n = 137) and the validation cohort (n = 56), randomly, and the preoperative clinical and MRI features were collected. Univariate and multivariate stepwise logistic regression assessments were adopted to assess predictors of VER. Nomogram was constructed and certificated in the validation cohort. The performance of the prediction nomogram was evaluated by its discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility. The performance of the nomogram was compared with the T stage of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) 8th edition staging system. RESULTS Fifty-three patients (27.5%) experienced VER of the tumor and 140 patients (72.5%) with non-VER, during the follow-up period. After multivariate stepwise logistic regression, number of lesions, diffuse hypoenhancement on arterial phase, necorsis and suspicious lymph nodes were independently associated with VER. The nomogram demonstrated significantly higher area under the curve (AUC) of 0.813 than T stage (AUC = 0.666, P = 0.006) in the development cohort, whereas in the validation cohort, the nomogram showed better discrimination performance, with an AUC of 0.808 than T stage (0.705) with no significantly difference (P = 0.230). Decision curve analysis reflected the clinical net benefit of the nomogram. CONCLUSION The nomogram based on preoperative MRI features is a reliable tool to predict VER for patients with IMCC after R0 resection. This nomogram will be helpful to improve survival prediction and individualized treatment.

Abstract
Background Deep learning (DL)-based MRI reconstructions can reduce imaging times for turbo spin-echo (TSE) examinations. However, studies that prospectively use DL-based reconstructions of rapidly acquired, undersampled MRI in the shoulder are lacking. Purpose To compare the acquisition time, image quality, and diagnostic confidence of DL-reconstructed TSE (TSEDL) with standard TSE in patients indicated for shoulder MRI. Materials and Methods This prospective single-center study included consecutive adult patients with various shoulder abnormalities who were clinically referred for shoulder MRI between February and March 2023. Each participant underwent standard TSE MRI (proton density- and T1-weighted imaging; conventional TSE sequence was used as reference for comparison), followed by a prospectively undersampled accelerated TSEDL examination. Six musculoskeletal radiologists evaluated images using a four-point Likert scale (1, poor; 4, excellent) for overall image quality, perceived signal-to-noise ratio, sharpness, artifacts, and diagnostic confidence. The frequency of major pathologic features and acquisition times were also compared between the acquisition protocols. The intergroup comparisons were performed using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. Results Overall, 135 shoulders in 133 participants were evaluated (mean age, 47.9 years ± 17.1 [SD]; 73 female participants). The median acquisition time of the TSEDL protocol was lower than that of the standard TSE protocol (288 seconds [IQR, 288-288 seconds] vs 926 seconds [IQR, 926-950 seconds], respectively; P < .001), achieving a 69% lower acquisition time. TSEDL images were given higher scores for overall image quality, perceived signal-to-noise ratio, and artifacts (all P < .001). Similar frequency of pathologic features (P = .48 to > .99), sharpness (P = .06), or diagnostic confidence (P = .05) were noted between images from the two protocols. Conclusion In a clinical setting, TSEDL led to reduced examination time and higher image quality with similar diagnostic confidence compared with standard TSE MRI in the shoulder. © RSNA, 2024 Supplemental material is available for this article. Abstract
Glioma is a brain tumor that originates from brain or spine glial cells. Despite alternative treatments, the overall survival rate remains low. Oridonin (ORI) is purified from the Chinese herb Rabdosia rubescens, which has exhibited positive effects on tumors. This study aimed to investigate the effect of ORI on U87MG glioblastoma cells and whether the Hippo/YAP-related signaling pathway was involved. Malignant glioblastoma U87MG cells and male athymic nude mice (BALB/cnu/nu) were used as the experimental models. The YAP inhibitor Verteporfin (VP) and the overexpression of YAP were used to investigate its potential relation with glioma. Here, we found that ORI inhibited cell proliferation and promoted cell apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner in U87MG cells. Moreover, ORI inhibited Bcl-2, YAP, and c-Myc protein expression but increased Bax, caspase-3, and p-YAP protein expression. Furthermore, the effect of ORI was also confirmed in a mouse model bearing glioma. ORI reversed the effect of overexpression of YAP. Collectively, oridonin suppressed glioblastoma oncogenesis via the Hippo/YAP signaling pathway and could be a potential therapeutic target in the treatment of glioblastoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ankle sprain causes proprioceptor injuries and prolonged joint deafferentation, which might lead to maladaptive neuroplasticity in patients with chronic ankle instability (CAI), especially in the cerebellum. Previous studies have indicated the impairment of superior cerebellar peduncle (SCP), but the inferior cerebellar peduncle (ICP) and middle cerebellar peduncle (MCP) have not been fully analyzed. HYPOTHESIS The cerebellar peduncles of participants with CAI would have altered fractional anisotropy (FA) and orientation dispersion index (ODI) in comparison with healthy controls without ankle injury history. In addition, FA and ODI would be correlated with the duration or severity of the sensorimotor deficits in CAI. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional study. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level 3. METHODS A group of 27 participants with CAI and 26 healthy controls underwent diffusion-weighted imaging scanning, with the cerebellar peduncles as the regions of interest. The measures obtained by single-shell diffusion tensor imaging and the multishell neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging were used. Correlation analyses were performed to examine the potential relationship between the FA/ODI and both the normalized Y-balance scores and the durations of ankle instability. RESULTS The ipsilateral ICP of the injured ankle in participants with CAI showed significantly lower FA (Cohen d 95% CI, -1.33 to -0.21; P = 0.04) and marginally significant higher ODI (Cohen d 95% CI, 0.10 to 1.20, P = 0.08) when compared with the same measures in the control group, with the ODI being positively correlated with the duration of ankle instability (r = 0.42, P = 0.03). CONCLUSION The ICP in participants with CAI exhibited impaired integrity and a trend of abnormally organized neurites in comparison with a healthy control group. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The impairments of ICP might be an ongoing part of the pathological process of CAI, having the potential to become a target for the diagnostic evaluation of this clinical entity.

Abstract
The incorporation of rare earth oxides and nano-silica has been found to significantly enhance the mechanical and tribological characteristics of phenolic-based hybrid nanocomposites. In this work, the impact of these additives was investigated through single-factor experiments. The study revealed that cerium oxide and yttrium oxide were the primary factors influencing changes in the impact strength, shear strength, coefficient of friction, and wear rate. Additionally, the content of nano-silica exerted the most substantial influence on the hardness and compressive strength of the specimens. Furthermore, the material ratios of the phenolic-based hybrid nanocomposites were optimized using an orthogonal experimental design and a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. The optimal material ratio for these nanocomposites was determined to be 2% cerium oxide, 2.5% yttrium oxide, and 3% nano-silica, based on their mechanical, frictional, and wear properties. This research provides valuable insights for the development of new brake friction materials with low friction and high wear resistance and contributes to meeting the demand for polymer composites with superior mechanical performance in diverse applications.

Abstract
Aging is accompanied by physical dysfunction and physiologic degeneration that occurs over an individual's lifetime. Human teeth, like many other organs, inevitably undergo chronological aging and age-related changes throughout the lifespan, resulting in a substantial need for preventive, restorative as well as periodontal dental care. This is particularly the case for seniors at 65 years of age and those older but economically disadvantaged. Dental aging not only interferes with normal chewing and digestion, but also affects daily appearance and interpersonal communications. Further dental aging can incur the case of multiple disorders such as oral cancer, encephalitis, and other systemic diseases. In the next decades or even hundreds of years, the proportion of the elderly in the global population will continue to rise, a tendency that attracts increasing attention across multiple scientific and medical disciplines. Dental aging will bring a variety of problems to the elderly themselves and poses serious challenges to the medical profession and social system. A reduced, but functional dentition comprising 20 teeth in occlusion has been proposed as a measurement index of successful dental aging. Healthy dental aging is critical to healthy aging, from both medical and social perspectives. To date, biomedical research on the causes, processes and regulatory mechanisms of dental aging is still in its infancy. In this article, updated insights into typical manifestations, associated pathologies, preventive strategies and molecular changes of dental aging are provided, with future research directions largely projected.

Abstract
A measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson combining the H→ZZ^{*}→4ℓ and H→γγ decay channels is presented. The result is based on 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector during LHC run 2 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV combined with the run 1 ATLAS mass measurement, performed at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, yielding a Higgs boson mass of 125.11±0.09(stat)±0.06(syst)=125.11±0.11 GeV. This corresponds to a 0.09% precision achieved on this fundamental parameter of the Standard Model of particle physics.

Abstract
A search for events with a dark photon produced in association with a dark Higgs boson via rare decays of the standard model Z boson is presented, using 139 fb^{-1} of sqrt[s]=13 TeV proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The dark boson decays into a pair of dark photons, and at least two of the three dark photons must each decay into a pair of electrons or muons, resulting in at least two same-flavor opposite-charge lepton pairs in the final state. The data are found to be consistent with the background prediction, and upper limits are set on the dark photon's coupling to the dark Higgs boson times the kinetic mixing between the standard model photon and the dark photon, α_{D}ϵ^{2}, in the dark photon mass range of [5, 40] GeV except for the ϒ mass window [8.8, 11.1] GeV. This search explores new parameter space not previously excluded by other experiments.

Abstract
Intervertebral disc degeneration is an important pathological basis for spinal degenerative diseases. The imbalance of the immune microenvironment and the involvement of immune cells has been shown to lead to nucleus pulposus cells death. This article presents a bibliometric analysis of studies on immune cells in IDD in order to clarify the current status and hotspots. We searched the WOSCC, Scopus and PubMed databases from 01/01/2001 to 08/03/2023. We analyzed and visualized the content using software such as Citespace, Vosviewer and the bibliometrix. This study found that the number of annual publications is increasing year on year. The journal study found that Spine had the highest number of articles and citations. The country/regions analysis showed that China had the highest number of publications, the USA had the highest number of citations and total link strength. The institutional analysis found that Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Huazhong University of Science Technology had the highest number of publications, Tokai University had the highest citations, and the University of Bern had the highest total link strength. Sakai D and Risbud MV had the highest number of publications. Sakai D had the highest total link strength, and Risbud MV had the highest number of citations. The results of the keyword analysis suggested that the current research hotspots and future directions continue to be the study of the mechanisms of immune cells in IDD, the therapeutic role of immune cells in IDD and the role of immune cells in tissue engineering for IDD.

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, inflammation, subsequent collagen production, and reduced proteinase expression cooperatively contribute to cyclosporin-A-induced gingival overgrowth development. Abstract
Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO), induced by certain immunosuppressive drugs, antihypertensive agents, and antiepileptic drugs, may contribute to the formation of deeper periodontal pockets and intractableness in periodontitis. To date, multiple factors such as enhanced matrix production, inflammation, and reduced matrix degradation might be involved in the pathogenesis of DIGO. We have previously reported that SPOCK-1, a heparan sulfate proteoglycan, could affect gingival thickening by promoting epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in gingival keratinocytes. However, few studies have investigated whether a combination of these factors enhances the DIGO phenotype in animal models. Therefore, we investigated whether SPOCK-1, periodontal inflammation, and cyclosporin-A (CsA) could cooperatively promote gingival overgrowth. We first confirmed that Spock-1 overexpressing (Spock1-Tg) mice showed significantly thicker gingiva and greater alveolar bone loss than WT mice in response to ligature-induced experimental periodontitis. DIGO was induced by the combination of CsA administration and experimental periodontitis was significantly enhanced in Spock1-Tg mice compared to that in WT mice. Ligature-induced alveolar bone loss in CsA-treated Spock1-Tg mice was also significantly greater than that in CsA-treated WT mice, while being accompanied by an increase in Rankl and Col1a1 levels and a reduction in matrix metalloprotease expression. Lastly, SPOCK-1 promoted RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation in both human peripheral blood mononuclear cells and murine macrophages, while peritoneal macrophages from Spock1-Tg mice showed less TNFα and IL-1β secretion than WT mice in response to Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide. These results suggest that EMT, periodontal inflammation, and subsequent enhanced collagen production and reduced proteinase production contribute to CsA-induced DIGO pathogenesis.

Abstract
Malocclusion is an oral disease with a high prevalence. The goal of orthodontic treatment is health, aesthetics, function and stability. The transmission straight wire appliance and technique is an innovative orthodontic system with independent intellectual property rights invented by Professor Jiuxiang Lin's team based on decades of clinical experience, which provides a new solution for the non-surgical correction of skeletal malocclusions, especially class Ⅲ malocclusion, and it is also a good carrier for the implementation of the concept of healthy orthodontics. Due to the lack of guidelines, how to implement standardized application of transmission straight wire technique remains a problem to be solved. This technical specification was formed by combining the guidance from Professor Jiuxiang Lin and joint revision by a number of authoritative experts from the Orthodontic Special Committee, Chinese Stomatological Association, with reference to relevant literatures, and combined with abundant clinical experience of many experts. This specification aims to provide reference to standardize the clinical application of transmission straight wire technique, so as to reduce the risk and complications, and finally to improve the clinical application level of this technique.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Nonsurgical hypoparathyroidism (ns-HP) is a rare disease. There are few studies on Quality of Life (QoL) among patients with ns-HP. This study aimed to investigate the QoL among ns-HP patients with regular conventional treatment, and explore the influence factors affecting QoL among these Chinese ns-HP patients. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study comparing 101 patients identified as ns-HP and 101 healthy controls. The questionnaires of Short Form 36 Health Survey questionnaire version 2(SF-36v2) were used to evaluate QoL. RESULTS Scores of all eight subdomains of SF-36v2 and physical component scores (PCS), mental component scores (MCS) were significantly lower in the ns-HP group compared with the healthy controls. The indices of all subdomains of SF-36v2 between Q1 (the lowest quartile) and Q4 (the highest quartile) groups were compared, suggesting higher percentages of detectable parathyroid hormone (PTH) before treatment in Q4 group among all QoL indices except two subdomains (physical function and body pain). CONCLUSION Both mental and physical QoL were impaired in the ns-HP patients even with regular conventional treatment for hypocalcemia, which were more severe in cases with lower baseline PTH levels.

GALNT2, an O-glycosylating enzyme, is a critical regulator of radioresistance of non-small cell lung cancer: evidence from an integrated multi-omics analysis. Cell Biol Toxicol 2023; 39:3159-3174. Abstract
Radioresistance is the primary reason for radiotherapy failure in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Glycosylation-related alterations are critically involved in tumor radioresistance. However, the relationship between glycosylation and NSCLC radioresistance is unclear. Here, we generated radioresistant NSCLC cell models by using fractionated irradiation. The aberrant glycosylation involved in NSCLC-related radioresistance was elucidated by transcriptomic, proteomic, and glycomic analyses. We conducted in vitro and in vivo investigations for determining the biological functions of glycosylation. Additionally, its downstream pathways and upstream regulators were inferred and verified. We demonstrated that mucin-type O-glycosylation and the O-glycosylating enzyme GALNT2 were highly expressed in radioresistant NSCLC cells. GALNT2 was found to be elevated in NSCLC tissues; this elevated level showed a remarkable association with response to radiotherapy treatment as well as overall survival. Functional experiments showed that GALNT2 knockdown improved NSCLC radiosensitivity via inducing apoptosis. By using a lectin pull-down system, we revealed that mucin-type O-glycans on IGF1R were modified by GALNT2 and that IGF1R could affect the expression of apoptosis-related genes. Moreover, GALNT2 knockdown-mediated in vitro radiosensitization was enhanced by IGF1R inhibition. According to a miRNA array analysis and a luciferase reporter assay, miR-30a-5p negatively modulated GALNT2. In summary, our findings established GALNT2 as a key contributor to the radioresistance of NSCLC. Therefore, targeting GALNT2 may be a promising therapeutic strategy for NSCLC.

Abstract
Objectives: Microvascular obstruction (MVO) is a specific cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging feature in patients with acute myocardial infarction. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the predictive value of MVO in left ventricular adverse remodeling after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Methods: A total of 167 patients with STEMI undergoing primary PCI in the Chinese PLA General Hospital from 2016 to 2020 were enrolled in this prospective cohort study, the average age of study patients was 57±10 years old, with 151 males (90.4%) and 16 females (9.6%). The patients were divided into the MVO group (n=81) and non-MVO group (n=86) according to the presence or absence of MVO on CMR imaging, respectively. The primary endpoint of the study was the occurrence of left ventricular adverse remodeling, which was defined as an increase in left ventricular end diastolic volume (LVEDV) by >20% at 6 months after primary PCI compared with the baseline. Patients who completed follow-up were diagnosed as left ventricular adverse remodeling or no left ventricular adverse remodeling according to CMR. The baseline data, perioperative data, and related data of end points were compared between the MVO group and non-MVO group. Finally, the predictive value of MVO in left ventricular adverse remodeling was calculated by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Results: In the baseline data, preoperative thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow (χ2=13.74, P=0.003) and postoperative TIMI flow (χ2=14.87, P=0.001) were both obviously decreased in the MVO group. After 6 months of follow-up, the incidence of left ventricular adverse remodeling in the MVO group was significantly higher than that in the non-MVO group [37.0%(27/73) vs. 18.9%(14/74), χ2=5.96, P=0.015]. The left ventricular end systolic volume at 6 months post infarction in the MVO group was significantly larger than that in the non-MVO group [(94±32) vs. (68±20) ml, t=-5.98, P<0.001], as well as the LVEDV [(169±38) vs. (143±29) ml, t=-4.74, P<0.001]. Receiver operating characteristic curve showed that the area under the curve of MVO size for predicting left ventricular adverse remodeling was 0.637. Conclusion: The risk of left ventricular adverse remodeling is significantly increased in patients with MVO after primary PCI for acute STEMI.

Risk stratification for overall survival and recurrence-free survival after R0 resection for solitary intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma based on preoperative MRI and clinical features. Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to establish two nomograms for predicting overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) in patients with solitary intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC) based on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features. METHODS This retrospective study included 120 consecutive patients who were diagnosed with solitary IMCC. Preoperative MRI and clinical features were collected. Based on the univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, two nomograms were constructed to predict OS and RFS, respectively. The effective performance of the nomograms was evaluated using concordance index (C-index). The prognostic stratification systems for OS and RFS were developed and used to classify patients into high- and low-risk groups. RESULTS Suspicious lymph nodes, arterial phase (AP) enhancement patterns, and bile duct dilatation were independent predictors of OS, while suspicious lymph nodes, AP enhancement patterns, and necrosis were independent predictors of RFS. The nomograms achieved the C-index values of 0.705/0.710 for OS and 0.721/0.759 for RFS in the development/validation cohorts, which were significantly higher than those of the T and TNM stages (P < 0.05). Patients were stratified into high- and low-risk groups, the 1-year OS and RFS rates of high-risk patients were poorer than those of patients with low-risk in the development cohort (OS: 93.5% vs 76.3%, P < 0.001; RFS: 74.5% vs 22.4%, P < 0.001). Similar results were observed in the validation cohort. CONCLUSIONS Two nomograms were constructed based on preoperative MRI features in patients with solitary IMCC for predicting the OS and RFS and facilitate further prognostic stratification.
