Abstract
Background The coagulation status of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is quite complicated, and there are currently no simple efficient methods for its evaluation. We explored the feasibility of thromboelastography (TEG) for this purpose. Methods Paediatric SLE patients were divided into different groups based on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) scores. TEG parameters were compared between patients and healthy controls (HCs) and in patients by level of disease activity. Six patients treated with pulse methylprednisolone were also analysed before and after treatment. Results Thirty-nine children with SLE were enrolled, one of whom had bleeding and three of whom had thrombosis. The four TEG tracings of these four children were different. The TEG parameters of the patients (except the four children mentioned above) showed hypercoagulability, shortened R and K times, increased α-angle and maximum amplitude (MA), decreased LY30 and increased clot index (CI) compared with the parameters of the HCs ( P < 0.05). With respect to disease activity, patients with higher SLEDAI scores showed more obvious hypercoagulability with shortened R and K times and increased α-angle and CI ( P < 0.05). Furthermore, there was a negative correlation between both the R time and K time and SLEDAI scores ( r = –0.435, P < 0.01 and r = –0.572, P < 0.001, respectively) and a positive correlation between both α-angle and CI and SLEDAI scores ( r = 0.581, P < 0.001 and r = 0.544, P < 0.01, respectively). No significant difference in coagulation status was found between pre- and post-pulse therapy. Conclusions Compared with the HCs, paediatric SLE patients showed hypercoagulability caused by increased coagulation and decreased fibrinolysis. These coagulation changes were associated with disease activity. TEG could be a potential tool for evaluating the coagulation status of children with SLE.

Abstract
Committee 2 of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has constructed mesh-type adult reference computational phantoms by converting the voxel-type ICRP Publication 110 adult reference computational phantoms to a high-quality mesh format, and adding those tissues that were below the image resolution of the voxel phantoms and therefore not included in the Publication 110 phantoms. The new mesh phantoms include all the necessary source and target tissues for effective dose calculations, including the 8-40-µm-thick target layers of the alimentary and respiratory tract organs, thereby obviating the need for supplemental organ-specific stylised models (e.g. respiratory airways, alimentary tract organ walls and stem cell layers, lens of the eye, and skin basal layer). To see the impact of the new mesh-type reference phantoms, dose coefficients for some selected external and internal exposures were calculated and compared with the current reference values in ICRP Publications 116 and 133, which were calculated by employing the Publication 110 phantoms and the supplemental stylised models. The new mesh phantoms were also used to calculate dose coefficients for industrial radiography sources near the body, which can be used to estimate the organ doses of the worker who is accidentally exposed by an industrial radiography source; in these calculations, the mesh phantoms were deformed to reflect the size of the worker, and also to evaluate the effect of posture on dose coefficients.

Abstract
Ferroelectric photovoltaics (FPVs) have drawn much attention owing to their high stability, environmental safety, and anomalously high photovoltages, coupled with reversibly switchable photovoltaic responses. However, FPVs suffer from extremely low photocurrents, which is primarily due to their wide band gaps. Here, we present a new class of FPVs by demonstrating switchable ferroelectric photovoltaic effects and narrow band-gap properties using hexagonal ferrite (h-RFeO3) thin films, where R denotes rare-earth ions. FPVs with narrow band gaps suggest their potential applicability as photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices. The h-RFeO3 films further exhibit reasonably large ferroelectric polarizations (4.7-8.5 μC cm-2), which possibly reduces a rapid recombination rate of the photo-generated electron-hole pairs. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of h-RFeO3 thin-film devices is sensitive to the magnitude of polarization. In the case of the h-TmFeO3 (h-TFO) thin film, the measured PCE is twice as large as that of the BiFeO3 thin film, a prototypic FPV. The effect of electrical fatigue on FPV responses has been further investigated. This work thus demonstrates a new class of FPVs towards high-efficiency solar cell and optoelectronic applications.

Abstract
In this study, a rapid and specific assay for the detection of porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3) was established using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). Four primers were specifically designed to amplify PCV3. The LAMP assay was effectively optimized to amplify PCV3 by water bath at 60°C for 60 min. The detection limit was approximately 1 × 101 copy in this LAMP assay. Compared to porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2), both gE and gD genes of pseudorabies virus (PRV) and porcine parvovirus (PPV), the LAMP assay showed a high specific detection of PCV3. A visible detection method was developed using SYBR Green I to recognize the results rapidly. Based on the detection of 20 clinical tissue samples, the LAMP assay was more practical and convenient than classical PCR due to its simplicity, high sensitivity, rapidity, specificity, visibility and cost efficiency.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) often precedes asthma and food allergy, indicating that epicutaneous sensitization to allergens may be important in the induction of allergic responses at other barrier surfaces. Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) and interleukin (IL)-33 are two cytokines that may drive type 2 responses in the skin; both are potential targets in the treatment of allergic diseases. We tested the functional role of IL-33 and the interplay between IL-33 and TSLP in mouse models of atopic march and gastrointestinal (GI) allergy. IL-33-driven allergic disease occurred in a TSLP-independent manner. In contrast, mice lacking IL-33 signaling were protected from onset of allergic diarrhea in TSLP-driven disease. Epithelial-derived IL-33 was important in this model, as specific loss of IL-33 expression in the epithelium attenuated cutaneous inflammation. Notably, the development of diarrhea following sensitization with TLSP plus antigen was ameliorated even when IL-33 was blocked after sensitization. Thus, IL-33 has an important role during early cutaneous inflammation and during challenge. These data reveal critical roles for IL-33 in the "atopic march" that leads from AD to GI allergy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To report a case series of in vitro fertilization patients with premature ovarian insufficiency, who were treated with oral contraceptives to reduce follicle stimulating hormone levels. METHOD This was a consecutive case series in a tertiary teaching hospital in China. Twenty-two women with refractory and idiopathic premature ovarian insufficiency were administered a drospirenone/ethinylestradiol oral contraceptive orally. The main outcome measures were the number of oocytes retrieved and the number of embryos frozen. RESULTS There were total 106 oral contraceptive treatment cycles and 53 oocyte retrieval cycles in 20 patients (91%, 20/22; 2.4 cycles per woman, 53/22). The total number of oocytes retrieved was 48 in 17 patients (77%, 17/22; 2.2 oocytes per woman, 48/22), and the total number of embryos frozen was 33 in 16 patients (73%, 16/22; 1.5 embryos per woman, 33/22). CONCLUSION Oral contraception may be an effective method to induce ovulation for some patients with premature ovarian insufficiency.

Abstract
To investigate the level variation of correlative factors between the spermatic vein plexus and peripheral blood in patients with varicocele, a total of 22 patients diagnosed with varicocele were enrolled in the study. All patients were performed a testicular artery-sparing microsurgical varicocelectomy. During the operation, a blood sample from the left spermatic vein plexus and a peripheral blood sample were collected. A radioimmunoassay was used to determine the 6-keto prostaglandin F1a (6-keto-PGF1a ). A colorimetric method was performed to determine the NO. The enzyme immunoassay method was used to determine the creatinine, urea nitrogen, adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine and 5-HT. The mean age of all patients was 29.3 ± 7.8 years. Compared with the level of 6-keto-PGF1a and NO in the peripheral blood, 6-keto-PGF1a and NO were significantly increased in left spermatic vein plexus (347.3 (230.8-415.1) versus 99.7 (80.4-119.9) pg/ml and 192.3 ± 178.5 versus 107.1 ± 73.6 μmol/L, p < .05). There were no differences in the level of creatinine, urea nitrogen, adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine and 5-HT between the peripheral blood and left spermatic vein plexus (p > .05). The 6-keto-PGF1a and NO concentrations in left spermatic vein plexus were significantly higher than that in peripheral blood patients with varicocele.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: The host anti-tumor immune response plays an important role in determining natural history and therapy response for early stage breast cancer. Tumors with high levels of lymphocytic infiltration appear to have a superior prognosis and response rate to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. However, these tumors are in the minority so methods to enhance tumor lymphocyte infiltration should be identified. The oncolytic virus, talimogene laherparpvec (TVEC) is a genetically modified HSV1 virus which selectively replicates in transformed cells while sparing normal tissue. This leads to lysis of infected tumor cells along with co-expression of GM-CSF to elicit an enhanced anti-tumor immune response. Prior data has shown TVEC can be safely combined with chemotherapy in other indications, so we launched an investigator initiated study to determine the safety and efficacy of combining TVEC with neoadjuvant dose dense chemotherapy in stage II-III TNBC.
Study design: The study is a phase 1 (2 dose levels of TVEC, 3+3 design) and phase 2 single arm Simon two stage combination trial. Primary endpoints of phase 1 is safety of intratumoral TVEC (DL1=106 PFU x 5 injections, DL2=106 PFU x 1 then 108 PFU x 4 injections) administered q2-3 weeks concurrently with weekly paclitaxel followed by standard dose dense AC x 4 and local therapy as indicated. Phase 2 primary endpoint is pCR rate of the study treatment, secondary endpoints include DFS, OS, immune correlates in resected tumor specimens. Eligibility criteria includes females >17 years old, newly diagnosed T2-3N0-3 TNBC, adequate organ function, primary tumor amenable to injection with TVEC, no immunosuppressive or autoimmune conditions, no inflammatory or bilateral/multifocal disease. Sample size is up to 49 patients (12 phase 1, 37 phase 2) with 80% power to detect increase in pCR rate from 30% to 50% with one sided p=.1 in phase 2.
Study status: This novel Amgen supported investigator initiated study activated to accrual 3/2017 and first patient on study was on 5/2017. The study is currently open only at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Target study completion date 8/2021. (NCT02779855)

Abstract
Ferroelectric photovoltaics (FPVs) are being extensively investigated by virtue of switchable photovoltaic responses and anomalously high photovoltages of ∼104 V. However, FPVs suffer from extremely low photocurrents due to their wide band gaps (Eg). Here, we present a promising FPV based on hexagonal YbFeO3 (h-YbFO) thin-film heterostructure by exploiting its narrow Eg. More importantly, we demonstrate enhanced FPV effects by suitably exploiting the substrate-induced film strain in these h-YbFO-based photovoltaics. A compressive-strained h-YbFO/Pt/MgO heterojunction device shows ∼3 times enhanced photovoltaic efficiency than that of a tensile-strained h-YbFO/Pt/Al2O3 device. We have shown that the enhanced photovoltaic efficiency mainly stems from the enhanced photon absorption over a wide range of the photon energy, coupled with the enhanced polarization under a compressive strain. Density functional theory studies indicate that the compressive strain reduces Eg substantially and enhances the strength of d-d transitions. This study will set a new standard for determining substrates toward thin-film photovoltaics and optoelectronic devices.

Abstract
Multiferroic BiFeO3 (BFO) that exhibits a gigantic off-centering polarization (OCP) is the most extensively studied material among all multiferroics. In addition to this gigantic OCP, the BFO having R3c structural symmetry is expected to exhibit a couple of parasitic improper polarizations owing to coexisting spin-polarization coupling mechanisms. However, these improper polarizations are not yet theoretically quantified. Herein, we show that there exist two distinct spin-coupling-induced improper polarizations in the R3c BFO on the basis of the Landau-Lifshitz-Ginzburg theory: ΔPLF arising from the Lifshitz gradient coupling in a cycloidal spin-density wave, and ΔPms originating from the biquadratic magnetostrictive interaction. With the help of ab initio calculations, we have numerically evaluated magnitudes of these improper polarizations, in addition to the estimate of all three relevant coupling constants. We further predict that the magnetic susceptibility increases substantially upon the transition from the bulk R3c BFO to the homogeneous canted spin state in a constrained epitaxial film, which satisfactorily accounts for the experimental observation. The present study will help us understand the magnetoelectric coupling and shed light on design of BFO-based materials with improved multiferroic properties.

Abstract
In this study, the co-infection of Torque teno sus virus (TTSuV) and porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3) was reported. One hundred and ten of 132 (83.3%) PCV3-positive samples were co-infected with Torque teno sus virus 1 (TTSuV1). Ninety-four of 132 (71.2%) PCV3-positive samples were co-infected with Torque teno sus virus 2 (TTSuV2). Sixty-six of 132 (50.0%) of PCV3-positive samples were co-infected with both TTSuV1 and TTSuV2. There were no clinical signs of infection in pigs that were both PCV3-positive and PCV2-negative, in either multiparous sows or live-born infants. The high co-infection rate provides valuable information for the further study of the pathological correlation between PCV3 and TTSuVs.

Intramuscular adipocytes are dispersed among muscle fibers, so they are inclined to be affected by muscle-derived factors. Interleukin-15 is a major muscle-secreted factor. In this study, the genetic and physiological impacts of IL15 on adipogenesis is investigated. The promoter region of IL15 was scanned by comparative sequencing using two DNA pools of high- and low-IMF individuals. Two SNPs, c.-342C>T (ss2137497757) and c.-334G>A (ss2137497756) (the translation start site is designated as +1), were identified with reverse allele distribution in these two groups. Genotyping by allele-specific PCR revealed that the two SNPs were completely linked. The IMF content of TA/TA individuals was lower than that for CG/CG ones, whereas the IL15 expression level was higher in T-A/T-A individuals. Luciferase assaying also revealed that the T-A haplotype promoter had higher transcription activity. Meanwhile, the effect of interleukin-15 on adipocyte differentiation was further assessed in vitro. Results showed that interleukin-15 suppressed preadipocyte proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. The cell cycle of preadipocytes was arrested, and apoptosis was induced. Oil Red O staining and triglyceride quantification indicated that adipocyte differentiation was also inhibited by interleukin-15. The mRNA levels of PPARG and FABP4 decreased markably upon interleukin-15 treatment. Taken together, we identified two completely linked SNPs in the porcine IL15 promoter region that could alter IL15 transcription activity. As interleukin-15 can inhibit porcine adipocyte differentiation, these promoter mutations could affect IMF deposition by producing differential levels of muscle-derived interleukin-15.
