Abstract
BACKGROUND Infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in pediatric oncology. Resistance pattern of bacterial isolates determine empiric antibiotic therapy and influence outcome. AIMS This study was planned to determine profile of bacterial isolates and their antibiotic resistance pattern among pediatric cancer patients. DESIGN It was a retrospective, single institutional study. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was carried out in the department of pediatric hematology-oncology of a tertiary care cancer centre in north India over a period of 24 months (2012-2014). Microbiological data pertaining to pediatric cancer patients, less than 18 yrs of age was analysed. RESULTS Hence, 238 bacterial isolates were cultured from among 1757 blood, urine and other specimens. Gram negative bacteria were the most common (74%) pathogens identified and E. coli and Klebsiella comprised 80% of them. A high incidence of extended spectrum beta lactamase producing organisms (84%), beta-lactam beta-lactamase inhibitor (78%) and carbapenem resistance was observed (29%). Blood stream infection with multi-drug resistant Klebsiella was associated with high mortality. The gram positive bacteria isolated were predominantly staphylococcus aureus and were antibiotic sensitive. Reduction in the number of culture positive isolates in the second year of our study was probably due to rigorous implementation of infection control measures. CONCLUSION These results on microbiologic profile and antibiotic sensitivity pattern of the isolates will be extremely helpful in revision of antibiotic guidelines for our patients and in developing strategies for coping with high prevalence of multi-drug resistance. Antibiotic stewardship and strict implementation of infection control practices will be important components of this effort.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hospitalization for fever in cancer patients is associated with considerable morbidity, mortality, and cost. AIM The aim of this study was to study the bacterial spectrum and susceptibility patterns of pathogens in culture positive patients from the oncology unit of our hospital. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients admitted in our cancer center (medical, radiation, and surgical oncology) from January to December 2013. Blood and respiratory secretions from the indoor patients were evaluated. RESULTS Of the total 693 samples, 76.4% were Gram-negative and 23.6% were Gram-positive. The most common bacterial isolates among Gram-negative organisms in blood were Escherichia coli, Salmonella and among the Gram-positive organism were Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus. Among the blood isolates extended spectrum of beta-lactamase, multidrug-resistant (carbapenem-resistant) and pan resistant bugs were seen in 47%, 15%, and 5% of the blood isolates. Among the Gram-positive organisms, 25% respiratory isolates were vancomycin-resistant Enterococci. CONCLUSION We observed a high incidence of Gram-negative isolates with clinically significant resistance to first-line antibiotics such as cephalosporin's, piperacillin tazobactum, and fluoroquinolones.

Abstract
Escherichia vulneris is an opportunistic human pathogen. It has been primarily reported in adult patients and invasive infections have been observed in immune-suppressed individuals. This is the first report of E. vulneris causing complicated diarrhoea and sepsis in an infant. Two month old sick infant, born full-term, was admitted to the paediatrics department with loose motions and refusal to feed for four days. E. vulneris was isolated from blood in pure culture. The isolate was characterized for diarrhoeal virulence markers: heat labile and heat stable toxins (LT, ST) and hemolysin (hlyA) by PCR. The presence of LT enterotoxin and hemolysin provides strong evidence of the diarrhoeagenic potential of E. vulneris, further leading to the invasive infection triggering sepsis. As E. vulneris can lead to serious complications, an attempt should be made in clinical laboratories to identify and further characterize this new Escherichia species.

Abstract
Aedes aegypti (L.) resistance to pyrethroids was recorded in Brazil few years after its introduction as the adulticide in the National Dengue Control Program campaigns. Altered susceptibility to pyrethroids had been reported in the state of Sergipe, northeast Brazil, through biological assays, even before its use against Ae. aegypti in the state. Metabolic and target-site resistance mechanisms were also revealed in samples from Aracaju, the capital of Sergipe. Herein, we investigated the presence and distribution of the kdr mutation V1016Ikdr in Ae. aegypti populations from different municipalities of the state. Aedes aegypti eggs were collected from seven municipalities located in areas showing different climatic types and infestation levels. Approximately 20 Ae. aegypti females from each municipality (total of 135 subjects) were individually submitted to allele-specific polymerase chain reaction (AS-PCR) for the 1016 site of the voltage-gated sodium channel (NaV). The V1016Ikdr mutation was found in subjects from all the municipalities under study with a high frequency of heterozygotes in several locations. Homozygous recessive subjects (resistant kdr genotype) were found only in one municipality. The results suggest a wide distribution of the V1016Ikdr mutation in the northeast Brazil, which indicates urgent need for monitoring the effectiveness of the pyrethroids currently used for vector control.

Abstract
Farm mechanization has resulted in extensive use of wheat threshers on Indian farms. It has also increased agricultural injuries. A prospective study was undertaken for analysis of wheat thresher agricultural injuries and their remedial measures. Fifty two patients presenting with thresher injuries during the wheat harvesting season of March to June, 2003 were studied. A study-specific 14-point proforma was prepared to gather all possible information from site of injury to hospital records. Injuries were mostly of the upper limb and amputations accounted for most of these. Poor light arrangements, unskilled workers, drug / alcohol abuse, fatigue, poor designing and lack of orientation to work on these machines were the contributory factors to such injuries. The analysis emphasizes that the need of the hour is to decrease wheat thresher injuries through specific preventive approaches like improved designing, education, legislation, compensation and surveillance programmes. Abstract
Background Pleomorphic adenomas are benign salivary gland tumors, which predominantly affect the superficial lobe of the parotid gland. The “pleomorphic” nature of the tumor can be explained on the basis of its epithelial and connective tissue origin. The tumor has a female predilection between 30–50 years of age. Slowly progressing asymptomatic swelling is the usual presentation of the tumor. Surgical excision of the tumor mass forms the mainstay of treatment, with utmost care taken to preserve the facial nerve. Case Details This case report aims to throw light on an interesting case of pleomorphic adenoma of the parotid gland in a 50 years old female patient. The patient presented with a slowly progressing asymptomatic swelling on the left side of the face. There is also a special emphasis to a detailed review of literature. Conclusion Salivary gland neoplasms can occur at any site where salivary tissue is present. Pleomorphic adenoma is the commonest salivary gland tumor characterized by diverse histomorphological features. Early diagnosis and treatment plan entails thorough history taking, clinical examination, coupled with radiographic and histopathological findings.

Abstract
Wheat kernel shape and size has been under selection since early domestication. Kernel morphology is a major consideration in wheat breeding, as it impacts grain yield and quality. A population of 160 recombinant inbred lines (RIL), developed using an elite (ND 705) and a nonadapted genotype (PI 414566), was extensively phenotyped in replicated field trials and genotyped using Infinium iSelect 90K assay to gain insight into the genetic architecture of kernel shape and size. A high density genetic map consisting of 10,172 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, with an average marker density of 0.39 cM/marker, identified a total of 29 genomic regions associated with six grain shape and size traits; ∼80% of these regions were associated with multiple traits. The analyses showed that kernel length (KL) and width (KW) are genetically independent, while a large number (∼59%) of the quantitative trait loci (QTL) for kernel shape traits were in common with genomic regions associated with kernel size traits. The most significant QTL was identified on chromosome 4B, and could be an ortholog of major rice grain size and shape gene or . Major and stable loci also were identified on the homeologous regions of Group 5 chromosomes, and in the regions of (6A) and (7A) genes. Both parental genotypes contributed equivalent positive QTL alleles, suggesting that the nonadapted germplasm has a great potential for enhancing the gene pool for grain shape and size. This study provides new knowledge on the genetic dissection of kernel morphology, with a much higher resolution, which may aid further improvement in wheat yield and quality using genomic tools.

Abstract
Patient safety needs to be addressed for better health services. This needs a stringent uniform regulatory system. Although, after 2013 Central Drug Standard Control Organisation, CDSCO has laid down regulations for clinical trial, stem cells research, compensation for morbidity and mortality in subjects in clinical trial. There has been data from India on medication errors and patient safety in pediatric, neonatal and anaesthesia setting, knowledge of health professionals on medication errors. Still regulatory body has not laid down standards of patient safety, its audit, insurance and compensation guidelines. Medication errors are prevalent in the hospital settings. Considerable attention to patient safety is not a regular component of medical education, and much research needs to be carried out to understand the causes, consequences, and prevention of healthcare-related adverse events. Pediatric population is three times more suseptible to such errors. Healthcare professionals working in neonatal wards are particularly susceptible to committing errors due to the peculiarities of newborn patients and of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) environment.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: NanoFlares enable the detection of intracellular mRNA targets in live-cells and can be used to fluorescently detect genetic markers of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in whole blood. Unlike the current technology which tracks CTCs by protein markers located on the cell surface, NanoFlares allow for the detection of mRNA targets in live-cells at the single-cell level. This technique was recently validated in a murine model of metastatic breast cancer. In this study, we aimed to utilize the NanoFlares to quantify the number of CTCs in patients with breast cancer.
Methods: We enrolled a prospective cohort of patients with stage 1-4 breast cancer. After obtaining informed consent, donation of blood samples for CTC analysis was collected at study entry. Blood samples were treated with control scrambled NanoFlares or vimentin NanoFlares to a final concentration of 6nM. Samples were incubated for approximately seven hours at 37°C then processed to remove red blood cells and stained with a fluorescent anti-CD45 antibody. Data was acquired via flow cytometry on a LSRFortessa cell analyzer. CD45+ peripheral blood mononuclear cells were gated out, and vimentin-positive cells were enumerated by identifying populations in the vimentin Flare-treated samples which were above the baseline fluorescence found in the control Flare-treated samples. Vimentin is a reported marker of mesenchymal cells and aggressive breast cancer cells. Cells with a high vimentin NanoFlare fluorescent response were presumed to be CTCs for this study. Wilcoxon rank sum test was used to compare median CTCs between subgroups.
Results: Fourteen patients were included in this analysis. The median age was 52.6 years (range 30.1-81.5). Eight patients had early stage disease (stage 1: 2, stage 2: 3, stage 3: 3) and 6 patients had stage 4 breast cancer. Among the stage 4 patients, all had visceral metastases and 5 had progression of disease noted on imaging at blood draw. In the entire cohort, 12 (86%) patients had estrogen receptor (ER) and/or progesterone receptor (PR)-positive disease and 5 (26%) were HER2-positive. CTCs were observed in all patients on study. Patients with stage 4 breast cancer had higher median number of CTCs compared to stage 1-3 patients (139 vs 42, p=0.09). Patients with ER/PR negative disease had a higher median number of CTCs compared to ER and/or PR positive (191 vs 62, p=0.58). HER2 status did not appear to affect the median number of CTCs (67 in HER2-positive vs 56 in HER2-negative, p=0.84). Among stage 4 patients, there were no differences in CTCs in those who had progression of disease at the time of the blood sample versus those who had stable disease.
Conclusions: NanoFlares was successful in detecting CTCs in each patient. Though our data set is currently limited by the small number of patients, this analysis suggests that differences exist in the amount of CTCs by stage and/or receptor status with a trend for higher CTCs in stage 4 patients and those with ER/PR-negative disease. This technology is the first approach for detecting, isolating, and characterizing live cancer cells in patient blood based upon intracellular mRNA targets, and may have the ability to impact clinical decisions in patients.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: A deeper molecular understanding of cancer biology has led to the development of therapies targeting driver mutations. Genomic profiling of tumors is commercially available and has become integrated into many clinical practices as part of a paradigm shift towards personalized care of cancer patients. The current impact of genomic profiling on clinical decision making for patients with advanced breast cancer is not well described.
Methods: Patients with metastatic breast cancer (mBC) who had tumors submitted for commercial genomic analysis from 2013-2015 were identified consecutively at two large academic cancer centers with genomic basket trials open for the majority of the collection period. Demographics, tumor pathology, clinical, and treatment histories were extracted through medical chart review as per an IRB approved protocol. Data from genomic analysis reports was extracted including number and type of mutations, FDA approved therapies and clinical trials available. Genomic analysis was determined to have impacted clinical decision making if the next line of therapy was influenced either by accrual to clinical trial, or a decision to prescribe an FDA-approved therapy. The most frequent somatic mutations and their relative frequencies were determined.
Results: A total of 82 patients with mBC who had undergone commercially available genomic testing were identified. The median age was 49 (range: 29-70). 42 patients (51%) had ER-positive HER2-negative disease, 33 (40%) had ER-negative HER2-negative disease, 4 (5%) had ER-negative HER2-positive disease and 3 (4%) had ER-positive HER2-positive disease. The median number of lines of therapy received prior to genomic profiling was 2 (range 0-15). Genomic analysis reports suggested that 61 (74%) of these patients had at least one FDA approved medication available for at least one somatic mutation, and 79 (96%) had at least one clinical trial available (39 (46%) in the same state, 11 (13%) in the same institution). Genomic testing influenced management in 8 patients (10%), with 6 patients (7%) experiencing a change in next line of therapy attributable to genomic information. In 74 patients (90%), genomic testing results did not affect clinical decision-making. The most frequently observed somatic mutations included: TP53, PI3KCA, MYC, CCDN1, FGF, ZNF703, GATA3, ARID1A, MCL1, PTEN, MYST3, and BRCA1.
Conclusions: Genomic testing did not affect management in the vast majority of mBC patients treated at two major academic cancer centers. Furthermore, the most identified mutated genes found were not targetable. The real world clinical utility of genomic analysis remains limited in breast cancer but may influence clinical decision making in a minority of patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study examines whether a new, scored and breakable once daily gliclazide tablet formulation, gliclazide XR 60 mg, that enables a simple 2-steps titration, can improve glycemic control rates in the community. METHODS In a prospective multicenter study of 4 months duration, organised in the primary care setting of urban India, type 2 diabetes patients, uncontrolled with diet alone or metformin monotherapy, received 1 (60 mg), 1½ (90 mg), or 2 (120 mg) tablets of gliclazide XR 60 mg to achieve a target fasting plasma glucose of 126 mg/dl, or HbA1c of 7%. The primary outcome was the frequency of patients achieving glycemic control. RESULTS Two hundred eleven investigators recruited 679 patients distributed throughout India. On intention to treat analysis, the number (%, 95% confidence interval, CI) of patients achieving glycemic control was, 526 (81.9, 78.8 to 84.6); with gliclazide XR 60 mg 1 tablet, 285 (42.0, 38.3 to 45.7); 1½ tablets, 143 (21.1, 18.2 to 24.3); and 2 tablets, 98 (14.4, 12.0 to 17.3). Hypoglycaemic episodes were reported by 27 (4.0, 2.8 to 5.7) patients. Mean (95% CI) FPG decreased by 78.3 (73.9 to 82.7, P < 0.01) mg/dl; with 1 tablet gliclazide XR 60 mg, by 66.0 (61.1 to 70.9, P < 0.01) mg/dl; 1-½ tablets, by 80.1 (71.2 to 88.5, P < 0.01) mg/dl; and 2 tablets, by 106.5 (93.4 to 119.5, P< 0.01) mg/dl. HbA1c decreased by 1.5 (1.3 to 1.5, P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS In primary care, once daily, breakable extended release gliclazide XR 60 mg, with a simple two step titration to administer maximum recommended dosage is effective in achieving short term glycemic control with a low frequency of hypoglycaemia, in monotherapy or in combination with metformin.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Incidence of feed intolerance (FI) and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm neonates with Doppler evidence of absent end diastolic flow (AEDF) velocities in the fetal umbilical artery when enteral feed volumes were started by 6-72 h and advanced either slowly or rapidly. METHODS Stable inborn neonates, 30-36 weeks gestation, weighing ≥1000 g and with antenatal evidence of AEDF were included in this pilot study. Infants (stratified in <1250 g and ≥1250 g birth weight categories) were allocated under randomized controlled trial, to receive either slow or rapid advancement of enteral feeding, while initiating the feeds after 6 h of birth if bowel sounds were present. Primary outcome measure was, FI and NEC till day 7 after reaching full feeds. RESULTS Of 159 eligible infants, 83 were randomized: 53 infants in the ≥1250 g category (28 in rapid and 25 in slow group) and 30 in the <1250 g category (15 in each group). FI was present in 11% versus 16% in ≥1250 g (p = 0.570) and 27% versus 33% in <1250 g (p = 0.690), NEC developed in 8.4% (3 versus 1) in ≥1250 g and (1 versus 2) in <1250 g, in slow versus rapid feeding. CONCLUSION This trial did not find increase in incidence of feed intolerance with very early introduction and rapid advancement of enteral feeds in stable preterm neonates with AEDF and birth weight ≥1250 g.

Abstract
Randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) has been widely used for epidemiological and phylogenetic purposes ow-ing to its rapidity and efficiency. The aim of this study was to perform genome typing of Salmonella samples isolated from different sources by RAPD profiling. Thirty-three Salmonella samples from the bacterial collection of the Laboratório de Virologia Comparada, Departamento de Morfologia, Universidade Federal de Sergipe, Brazil, and two standard samples were used. RAPD profiling was conducted using six primers of the Ready-To-Go RAPD system. The amplified products were electro-phoresed on 5% polyacrylamide gel and silver-stained. RAPD analysis resulted in reproducible and stable banding patterns and showed high genetic diversity among the isolated strains. The Primer P1-generated dendrogram showed an epidemiologic relationship between the human and poultry isolated samples, highlighting the usefulness of RAPD for molecular typing and epidemiological studies.

Abstract
AIMS Plant root-associated rhizobacteria elicit plant immunity referred to as induced systemic tolerance (IST) against multiple abiotic stresses. Among multibacterial determinants involved in IST, the induction of IST and promotion of growth by putative bacterial volatile compounds (VOCs) is reported in the present study. METHODS AND RESULTS To characterize plant proteins induced by putative bacterial VOCs, proteomic analysis was performed by MALDI-MS/MS after exposure of soybean seedlings to a new strain of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) Pseudomonas simiae strain AU. Furthermore, expression analysis by Western blotting confirmed that the vegetative storage protein (VSP), gamma-glutamyl hydrolase (GGH) and RuBisCo large chain proteins were significantly up-regulated by the exposure to AU strain and played a major role in IST. VSP has preponderant roles in N accumulation and mobilization, acid phosphatase activity and Na(+) homeostasis to sustain plant growth under stress condition. More interestingly, plant exposure to the bacterial strain significantly reduced Na(+) and enhanced K(+) and P content in root of soybean seedlings under salt stress. In addition, high accumulation of proline and chlorophyll content also provided evidence of protection against osmotic stress during the elicitation of IST by bacterial exposure. CONCLUSIONS The present study reported for the first time that Ps. simiae produces a putative volatile blend that can enhance soybean seedling growth and elicit IST against 100 mmol l(-1) NaCl stress condition. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY The identification of such differentially expressed proteins provide new targets for future studies that will allow assessment of their physiological roles and significance in the response of glycophytes to stresses. Further work should uncover more about the chemical side of VOC compounds and a detailed study about their molecular mechanism responsible for plant growth.

Abstract
A search for a standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a top-quark pair and decaying to bottom quarks is presented. Events with hadronic jets and one or two oppositely charged leptons are selected from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5[Formula: see text] collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in [Formula: see text] collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8[Formula: see text]. In order to separate the signal from the larger [Formula: see text] + jets background, this analysis uses a matrix element method that assigns a probability density value to each reconstructed event under signal or background hypotheses. The ratio between the two values is used in a maximum likelihood fit to extract the signal yield. The results are presented in terms of the measured signal strength modifier, [Formula: see text], relative to the standard model prediction for a Higgs boson mass of 125[Formula: see text]. The observed (expected) exclusion limit at a 95 % confidence level is [Formula: see text] (3.3), corresponding to a best fit value [Formula: see text].

Abstract
Prostate cancer (CaP) is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in males. There have been dramatic technical advances in radiotherapy delivery, enabling higher doses of radiotherapy to primary cancer, involved lymph nodes and oligometastases with acceptable normal tissue toxicity. Despite this, many patients relapse following primary radical therapy, and novel treatment approaches are required. Metal nanoparticles are agents that promise to improve diagnostic imaging and image-guided radiotherapy and to selectively enhance radiotherapy effectiveness in CaP. We summarize current radiotherapy treatment approaches for CaP and consider pre-clinical and clinical evidence for metal nanoparticles in this condition.

Abstract
Melioidosis is an infection caused by Gram-negative bacterium, Burkholderia pseudomallei. This is a rare disease in India, more so in North India. We present two cases of melioidosis with unusual sites of infection. The first patient was a young diabetic male presenting to us with history of prolonged fever and upper abdominal discomfort, subsequently diagnosed as a case of pyogenic liver abscess. The second patient was a middle aged diabetic complaining of prolonged fever and headache and found to have right frontal lobe brain abscess. The pus cultured from the lesion in both cases showed growth of Burkholderia pseudomallei. These two cases are described to consider melioidosis as a differential diagnosis amongst pyrexia of unknown origin cases.

Abstract
Bismuth-doped aluminosilicate fiber has been fabricated by the MCVD-solution doping method and characterized for its unsaturable loss and gain. The amplifier performance has been compared for a novel pumping wavelength of 1120 nm with the conventional pumping wavelength region of 1047 nm. Unsaturable loss was 65% and 35% at 1047 and 1120 nm, pump wavelengths, respectively. A maximum gain of about 8 dB at 1180 nm for a fiber length of 100 m was observed with 1120 nm pumping. Gain enhancement of 70% was achieved with the 1120 nm pump as compared to the 1047 nm pump. A further 3.5 dB gain was obtained on simultaneous pumping at 1047 and 1120 nm.

Abstract
Measurements of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections in the dielectron and dimuon channels are presented. They are based on proton-proton collision data at [Formula: see text] recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7[Formula: see text]. The measured inclusive cross section in the [Formula: see text] peak region (60-120[Formula: see text]), obtained from the combination of the dielectron and dimuon channels, is [Formula: see text], where the statistical uncertainty is negligible. The differential cross section [Formula: see text] in the dilepton mass range 15-2000[Formula: see text] is measured and corrected to the full phase space. The double-differential cross section [Formula: see text] is also measured over the mass range 20 to 1500[Formula: see text] and absolute dilepton rapidity from 0 to 2.4. In addition, the ratios of the normalized differential cross sections measured at [Formula: see text] and 8[Formula: see text] are presented. These measurements are compared to the predictions of perturbative QCD at next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-leading (NNLO) orders using various sets of parton distribution functions (PDFs). The results agree with the NNLO theoretical predictions computed with fewz 3.1 using the CT10 NNLO and NNPDF2.1 NNLO PDFs. The measured double-differential cross section and ratio of normalized differential cross sections are sufficiently precise to constrain the proton PDFs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In 2013 the Department of Health specified eligibility for bariatric surgery funded by the National Health Service. This included a mandatory specification that patients first complete a Tier 3 medical weight management programme. The clinical effectiveness of this recommendation has not been evaluated previously. Our bariatric centre has provided a Tier 3 programme six months prior to bariatric surgery since 2009. The aim of our retrospective study was to compare weight loss in two cohorts: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass only (RYGB only cohort) versus Tier 3 weight management followed by RYGB (Tier 3 cohort). METHODS A total of 110 patients were selected for the study: 66 in the RYGB only cohort and 44 in the Tier 3 cohort. Patients in both cohorts were matched for age, sex, preoperative body mass index and pre-existing co-morbidities. The principal variable was therefore whether they undertook the weight management programme prior to RYGB. Patients from both cohorts were followed up at 6 and 12 months to assess weight loss. RESULTS The mean weight loss at 6 months for the Tier 3 cohort was 31% (range: 18-69%, standard deviation [SD]: 0.10 percentage points) compared with 23% (range: 4-93%, SD: 0.12 percentage points) for the RYGB only cohort (p=0.0002). The mean weight loss at 12 months for the Tier 3 cohort was 34% (range: 17-51%, SD: 0.09 percentage points) compared with 27% (range: 14-48%, SD: 0.87 percentage points) in the RYGB only cohort (p=0.0037). CONCLUSIONS Our study revealed that in our matched cohorts, patients receiving Tier 3 specialist medical weight management input prior to RYGB lost significantly more weight at 6 and 12 months than RYGB only patients. This confirms the clinical efficacy of such a weight management programme prior to gastric bypass surgery and supports its inclusion in eligibility criteria for bariatric surgery.
