Abstract
Energy and water resources are closely linked in electric power systems, and the application of low-carbon technologies further affects electricity generation and water consumption in those systems. The holistic optimization of electric power systems, including generation and decarbonization processes, is necessary. Few studies have considered the uncertainty associated with the application of low-carbon technologies in electric power systems optimization from an energy-water nexus perspective. To fill such a gap, this study developed a simulation-based low-carbon energy structure optimization model to address the uncertainty in power systems with low-carbon technologies and generate electricity generation plans. Specifically, LMDI, STIRPAT and grey model were integrated to simulate the carbon emissions from the electric power systems under different socio-economic development levels. Furthermore, a copula-based chance-constrained interval mixed-integer programming model was proposed to quantify the energy-water nexus as the joint violation risk and generate risk-based low-carbon generation schemes. The model was applied to support the management of electric power systems in the Pearl River Delta of China. Results indicate that, the optimized plans could mitigate CO2 emission by up to 37.93% over 15 years. Under all scenarios, more low-carbon power conversion facilities would be established. The application of carbon capture and storage would increase energy and water consumption by up to [0.24, 7.35] × 106 tce and [0.16, 1.12] × 108 m3, respectively. The optimization of the energy structure based on energy-water joint violation risk could reduce the water utilization rate and the carbon emission rate by up to 0.38 m3/104 kWh and 0.04 ton-CO2/104 kWh, respectively.

Abstract
A novel and highly stereoselective acyclic 1,3-difunctionalization of vinyl metal carbene species has been developed via Rh(II)/chiral phosphoric acid co-catalyzed three-component reactions of vinyldiazoacetates with alcohols and imines. This innovative approach features excellent regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivities, demonstrating a broad scope and functional group compatibility. Notably, this is the first example of three-component asymmetric acyclic 1,3-difunctionalization with in situ-formed vinyl metal carbenes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare the cytological adequacy rates of different needle passes in ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules and, thus, to help establish the criterion for selecting the number of needle passes according to the characteristics of thyroid nodules. PATIENTS AND METHODS This single-center and randomized prospective study involved 207 consecutive patients with 240 solid or predominantly solid thyroid nodules. These nodules were randomly divided into a 1-pass group, a 2-pass group, and a 3-pass group. Then the nodules were sent for cytopathological diagnosis, and cytological results were classified according to the Bethesda classification. Bethesda I was defined as inadequate, and Bethesda Ⅱ-Ⅵ were defined as adequate. Then the cytological adequacy rates of different groups were compared. RESULTS In total, 221 nodule specimens were considered as adequate and 19 nodule specimens inadequate. The overall adequacy rate was 92.1%. However, there were no significant differences among the 1, 2, and 3-pass groups in terms of adequacy rates (91.3%, 92.5%, and 92.5%, respectively). CONCLUSIONS The number of needle passes does not significantly affect the cytological adequacy in ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration of solid or predominantly solid thyroid nodules. The cytological adequacy of one-needle pass is comparable to those of two and three-needle passes.

Abstract
Background Treatment of severe angular-like kyphoscoliosis is a technically demanding surgical challenge and requires high-risk spinal osteotomy, such as vertebral column resection. Preoperative halo-pelvic traction is commonly used to decrease the curve magnitude. However, few studies have utilized the potent method of bone-disc-bone osteotomy, which could theoretically provide correction up to 60°. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of type 3 bone-disc-bone osteotomy combined with presurgical halo-pelvic traction to correct severe angular-like kyphoscoliosis. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study. Patients with severe angular-like kyphoscoliosis who underwent presurgical halo-pelvic traction and type 3 bone-disc-bone osteotomy from January 2017 to December 2019 were consecutively reviewed. Patient demographics and clinical data were recorded. The coronal and sagittal Cobb angles were measured preoperation, post-traction, post-operation, and at the final follow-up. Complications were also recorded. Patients' health-related quality of life was evaluated by the Scoliosis Research Society 22 (SRS-22) questionnaire. Paired Student's t test and one-way analysis of variance were used for comparisons among different groups. Results Thirty patients (18 females and 12 males) with an average age of 20.2 years (range, 13-33 years) were included. The mean preoperative coronal and sagittal Cobb angles were 123.1°±16.4° (range, 90°-155°) and 120.3°±19.9° (range, 90°-156°), respectively. After 2.9±0.7 months (range, 2-4 months) of halo-pelvic traction, the coronal and sagittal Cobb angles decreased significantly to 81.9°±13.2° and 76.0°±12.6°, respectively. Postoperatively, the scoliotic and kyphotic angles further decreased to 42.4°±12.2° and 33.9°±8.8°, respectively. After a mean follow-up of 2.93±1.05 years, the correction rates were maintained at 64.3%±10.6% and 70.5%±6.3%, respectively. Nine patients experienced positive evoked potential events during surgery. Common complications after surgery included transient lower extremity weakness, pneumonia, and pleural effusion. The self-image scores were significantly improved from 2.66±0.27 to 3.36±0.23 compared to preoperation. Conclusions This study proposes a novel strategy to correct severe angular-like spinal deformities. The combination of presurgical halo-pelvic traction and type 3 bone-disc-bone osteotomy (grade 4+ osteotomy) achieves substantial correction and satisfactory aesthetic outcomes without serious complications.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to investigate whether the distance between the C2 vertical line and the femoral heads (C2-FH) is quasi-invariant for the sitting position. Methods A cross-sectional, prospective study was conducted. A cohort of 59 asymptomatic volunteers was prospectively recruited between February 1, 2020, and February 31, 2020, at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School. The following radiographical parameters were evaluated: T4-T12 thoracic kyphosis (TK), cervical lordosis (CL), lumbar lordosis (LL), pelvic incidence (PI), pelvic tilt (PT), sacral slope (SS), sagittal vertical axis (SVA), T1-pelvic angle (TPA), and the C2-FH. The inclusion criteria were as follows: age between 18 and 35 years and no symptoms related to neck or back pain. The exclusion criteria were as follows: a history of any prior lower extremity or spine surgery; and a history of inflammatory arthritis, neuromuscular disorders, or congenital anomalies. Individuals were divided into the following 3 groups according to the percentile of ΔPT (PT difference between standing position and sitting position): group A (1-25% ΔPT, n=14), group B (25-75% ΔPT, n=30), and group C (75-100% ΔPT, n=15). Summary statistics calculated using analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to provide 95% confidence intervals for measurement errors. The significance level of all statistical analyses was set as P < 0.05. Results There was no significant difference in any of the parameters among the 3 groups in the standing position. In the sitting position, for different degrees of pelvic retroversion, there were significant differences between the 3 groups in the other parameters except for C2-FH (P=0.80; 95% CI: -20.486 to -3.893), CL (P=0.47; 95% CI: -5.645 to 4.964), TK (P=0.54; 95% CI: 17.058-25.1), and PI (P=0.44; 95% CI: 40.747-49.087). Surprisingly, C2-FH changed slightly among the 3 groups in both the standing (P=0.87) and sitting (P=0.80) positions. As ΔPT gradually increased, ΔSS, ΔLL, ΔSVA, ΔL1-L4, ΔL4-S1, ΔTPA, ΔPT/PI, and ΔPI-LL showed corresponding gradual changes (all P values <0.05). However, there was no significant difference in PI (P=0.39), CL (P=0.46), C2-FH (P=0.51), or TK (P=0.51). Conclusion C2-FH is a quasi-invariant parameter in both the standing and sitting positions for asymptomatic adults. The mean value of C2-FH was -11.95 mm in the standing position and -1.01 mm in the sitting position. Stable C2-FH could serve as a reference during the surgical decision-making process in adult patients with spinal deformity and sagittal malalignment.

Abstract
Bone defect (BD) caused by trauma, infection, congenital defects, or neoplasia is a major cause of physical limitation. Distraction osteogenesis (DO) is a highly effective procedure for bone regeneration, while the concrete mechanism remains unknown. In this study, canine DO and BD models of the mandible were established. The results of micro-computed tomography and histological staining revealed that DO led to an increased mineralized volume fraction and robust new bone formation; in contrast, BD demonstrated incomplete bone union. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from DO and BD calluses were isolated and identified. Compared with BD-MSCs, DO-MSCs were found to have a stronger osteogenic capability. Single-cell RNA sequencing analysis was further performed to comprehensively define cell differences between mandibular DO and BD calluses. Twenty-six clusters of cells representing 6 major cell populations were identified, including paired related homeobox 1-expressing MSCs (PRRX1+MSCs), endothelial cells (ECs), T cells, B cells, neutrophils, and macrophages. Interestingly, 2 subpopulations in PRRX1+MSCs in the DO group were found to express the marker of neural crest cells (NCCs) and were associated with the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition. The immunofluorescence assay was performed to further corroborate these results in vivo and in vitro, experimentally validating that continuous distraction maintained the PRRX1+MSCs in an embryonic-like state. Finally, we used CRISPR/Cas9 to knock out (KO) PRRX1 in the context of DO, which significantly blunted the capability of jawbone regeneration, resulting in a diminished NCC-like program and reduction of new bone volume. In addition, the ability of osteogenesis, cell migration, and proliferation in cultured PRRX1KO MSCs was inhibited. Taken together, this study provides a novel, comprehensive atlas of the cell fates in the context of DO regeneration, and PRRX1+MSCs act essential roles.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the surgical methods and clinical effects of free superficial peroneal artery perforator flap in repairing small and medium-sized thermal crush injury wounds in the hand. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted. From August 2018 to December 2021, 12 patients (19 wounds) with small and medium-sized thermal crush injury in the hand who met the inclusion criteria were hospitalized in Suzhou Ruihua Orthopaedic Hospital, including 5 males and 7 females, aged from 30 to 54 years. The area of the wound was from 2.5 cm×2.0 cm to 14.0 cm×3.5 cm, and all the wounds were repaired by using free superficial peroneal artery perforator flaps from lower leg on one side (including single flap, multiple flaps, and multiple flaps with one pedicle resected from the same donor site). The area of the flap was from 3.5 cm×3.0 cm to 16.0 cm×4.0 cm. The wound in the donor site was sutured directly. The vascular crisis and survival of the flap were observed after operation. The texture, appearance, color, hyperpigmentation, sensation, and two-point discrimination of the flap repaired area were followed up, as well as the hyperplasia of scar and pain condition in the donor and recipient sites. At the last follow-up, the curative effect of flap repair was evaluated by the comprehensive evaluation scale, and the extension and flexion functions of the reserved digital joint were evaluated by the total active movement systematic evaluation method recommended by American Academy for Surgery of Hand. Results: One flap developed arterial crisis on the first day after operation but survived after timely exploration. The other 18 flaps survived successfully after operation. Follow-up of 4 to 24 months after operation showed good texture and appearance in the flap repaired area; the color of the flap repaired area was similar to that of the normal skin around the recipient site, without pigmentation; the protective sensation was restored in all cases, but there was no two-point discrimination; there was no obvious hypertrophic scarring or pain in the donor or recipient site. At the last follow-up, the curative effect of flap repair was evaluated with 3 flaps being excellent and 16 flaps being good; the extension and flexion functions of the reserved digital joint were also assessed, being excellent in 8 fingers, good in 9 fingers, and fair in 2 fingers. Conclusions: The blood supply of superficial peroneal artery perforator flap is sufficient and reliable, and multiple flaps of this type or multiple flaps with one pedicle can be resected from one donor site. The use of this flap to repair small and medium-sized thermal crush injury wounds in the hand results in minimal damage to the donor area, and good postoperative appearance and texture of the flap.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the interaction between Tubulin beta 4B class IVb (TUBB4B) and Agtpbp1/cytosolic carboxypeptidase- like1 (CCP1) in mouse primary spermatocytes (GC-2 cells) and the role of TUBB4B in regulating the development of GC-2 cells. METHODS Lentiviral vectors were used to infect GC-2 cells to construct TUBB4B knockdown and negative control (NC-KD) cells. The stable cell lines with TUBB4B overexpression (Tubb4b-OE) and the negative control (NC-OE) cells were screened using purinomycin. RT-qPCR and Western blotting were used to verify successful cell modeling and explore the relationship between TUBB4B and CCP1 expressions in GC-2 cells. The effects of TUBB4B silencing and overexpression on the proliferation and cell cycle of GC-2 cells were evaluated using CCK8 assay and flow cytometry. The signaling pathway proteins showing significant changes in response to TUBB4B silencing or overexpression were identified using Western blotting and immunofluorescence assay and then labeled for verification at the cellular level. RESULTS Both TUBB4B silencing and overexpression in GC-2 cells caused consistent changes in the mRNA and protein expressions of CCP1 (P < 0.05). Similarly, TUBB4B expression also showed consistent changes at the mRNA and protein after CCP1 knockdown and restoration (P < 0.05). TUBB4B knockdown and overexpression had no significant effect on proliferation rate or cell cycle of GC-2 cells, but caused significant changes in the key proteins of the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling pathway (p65 and p-p65) and the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway (ErK1/2 and p-Erk1/2) (P < 0.05); CCP1 knockdown induced significant changes in PolyE expression in GC-2 cells (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS TUBB4B and CCP1 interact via a mutual positive regulation mechanism in GC-2 cells. CCP-1 can deglutamize TUBB4B, and the latter is involved in the regulation of NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways in primary spermatocytes.

Abstract
Woody biomass comprising cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin has been the focus of considerable attention as an alternative energy source to fossil fuel for various applications. However, lignin has a complex structure, which is difficult to degrade. Typically, lignin degradation is studied using β-O-4 lignin model compounds as lignin contains a large number of β-O-4 bonds. In this study, we investigated the degradation of the following lignin model compounds via organic electrolysis: 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanol 1a, 1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1,3-propanediol 2a, and 1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1,3-propanediol 3a. The electrolysis was conducted for 2.5 h at a constant current of 0.2 A using a carbon electrode. Various degradation products such as 1-phenylethane-1,2-diol, vanillin, and guaiacol were identified upon separation via silica-gel column chromatography. The degradation reaction mechanisms were elucidated using electrochemical results as well as density functional theory calculations. The results suggest that the organic electrolytic reaction can be used for the degradation reaction of a lignin model with β-O-4 bonds.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the diagnosis, surgical management and outcome of jugular foramen chondrosarcoma (CSA). Methods: Fifteen patients with jugular foramen CSA hospitalized in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery of Chinese PLA General Hospital from December 2002 to February 2020 were retrospectively collected,of whom 2 were male and 13 were female, aging from 22 to 61 years old. The clinical symptoms and signs, imaging features, differential diagnosis, surgical approaches, function of facial nerve and cranial nerves IX to XII, and surgical outcomes were analyzed. Results: Patients with jugular foramen CSA mainly presented with facial paralysis, hearing loss, hoarseness, cough, tinnitus and local mass. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) could provide important information for diagnosis. CT showed irregular destruction on bone margin of the jugular foramen. MR demonstrated iso or hypointense on T1WI, hyperintense on T2WI and heterogeneous contrast-enhancement. Surgical approaches were chosen upon the sizes and scopes of the tumors. Inferior temporal fossa A approach was adopted in 12 cases, inferior temporal fossa B approach in 2 cases and mastoid combined parotid approach in 1 case. Five patients with facial nerve involved received great auricular nerve graft. The House Brackmann (H-B) grading scale was used to evaluate the facial nerve function. Preoperative facial nerve function ranked grade Ⅴ in 4 cases and grade Ⅵ in 1 case. Postoperative facial nerve function improved to grade Ⅲ in 2 cases and grade Ⅵ in 3 cases. Five patients presented with cranial nerves Ⅸ and Ⅹ palsies. Hoarseness and cough of 2 cases improved after operation, while the other 3 cases did not. All the patients were diagnosed CSA by histopathology and immunohistochemistry, with immunohistochemical staining showing vimentin and S-100 positive, but cytokeratin negative in tumor cells. All patients survived during 28 to 234 months' follow-up. Two patients suffered from tumor recurrence 7 years after surgery and received revision surgery. No complications such as cerebrospinal fluid leakage and intracranial infection occurred after operation. Conclusions: Jugular foramen CSA lacks characteristic symptoms or signs. Imaging is helpful to differential diagnosis. Surgery is the primary treatment of jugular foramen CSA. Patients with facial paralysis should receive surgery in time as to restore the facial nerve. Long-term follow-up is necessary after surgery in case of recurrence.

Abstract
This review focuses on melatonin's role in advancing Parkinson's disease (PD) pathogenesis by inhibiting synaptic dysfunction and neuroinflammation. The early pathological changes in PD, caused by SNCA/PARK1 and LRRK2/PARK8-mediated synaptic vesicle endocytosis during the early pathogenesis of PD, are briefly reviewed. The pathological changes related to synaptic plasticity and dendrites caused by synaptic dysfunction in neurotoxin 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) and 1-methl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridin (MPTP)-induced PD models are also discussed. The molecular mechanisms of pathological changes in PD, caused by the activation of microglia, astrocytes, and inflammatory vesicles, are discussed. The effectiveness of melatonin (MLT) in the restoration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SNc) has been established. MLT can upregulate dendritic numbers and restore synaptic plasticity by inhibiting alpha-synuclein aggregation and neurotoxicity. These functions of MLT improve sleep patterns in PD patients and suppresses synaptic dysfunction by inhibiting the overactivation of the PKA/CREB/BDNF signaling pathway and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. MLT can maintain the typical transport and release of neurotransmitters. MLT also reduces neuroinflammation by promoting microglia 2 (M2) polarization, which reduces the expression of inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, MLT stimulates the activation of the retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor α (RORα) ligand and inhibits the activation of the Recombinant Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)-dependent pathway, the NLR family pyridine structure domain 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome. By integrating the latest advances in synaptic dysfunction and neuroinflammation-related PD, researchers can develop clinical interventions for treating PD and further explore the pathological hallmarks of prodromal PD.

Abstract
Seed germination, a critical stage of the plant life cycle providing a link between seeds and seedlings, is commonly temperature-dependent. The global average surface temperature is expected to rise, but little is known about the responses of seed germination of woody plants in temperate forests to warming. In the present study, dried seeds of 23 common woody species in temperate secondary forests were incubated at three temperature sequences without cold stratification and after experiencing cold stratification. We calculated five seed germination indices and the comprehensive membership function value that summarized the above indicators. Compared to the control, +2 and +4 °C treatments without cold stratification shortened germination time by 14% and 16% and increased the germination index by 17% and 26%, respectively. For stratified seeds, +4 °C treatment increased germination percentage by 49%, and +4 and +2 °C treatments increased duration of germination and the germination index, and shortened mean germination time by 69%, 458%, 29% and 68%, 110%, 12%, respectively. The germination of Fraxinus rhynchophylla and Larix kaempferi were most sensitive to warming without and with cold stratification, respectively. Seed germination of shrubs was the least sensitive to warming among functional types. These findings indicate warming (especially extreme warming) will enhance the seedling recruitment of temperate woody species, primarily via shortening the germination time, particularly for seeds that have undergone cold stratification. In addition, shrubs might narrow their distribution range.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features and explore the value of MRI in the diagnosis of central nervous system leukaemia (CNSL). MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective study was performed in 68 patients with leukaemia who underwent cranial MRI between January 2020 and June 2022 at Institute of Hematology and Blood Diseases Hospital. RESULTS A total of 33 patients fulfilled the requirements for inclusion. The findings showed that 87.9% patients exhibited neurological symptoms, and 23 patients showed abnormal MRI findings. No differences were observed between the MRI+ and MRI- groups in terms of age, sex, neurological symptoms, glucose in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), chloride in the CSF, abnormal cells detected using conventional cytology (CC), bone marrow status at the diagnosis of CNSL, signal intensity ratio, and mortality, except for protein concentration and the number of leukaemic cells detected using flow cytometry (FCM) in the CSF. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis in patients with leukaemia revealed no statistical differences in the median survival times between the MRI+ group and MRI- group. Cox regression analysis and multivariate analysis showed no significant difference in survival rate between the MRI+ and MRI- groups. Kappa consistency test shows weak diagnostic consistency between MRI and CC, and weak diagnostic inconsistency between MRI and FCM. CONCLUSION MRI could serve as an important complementary tool to CC and FCM in the diagnosis of CNSL, especially in patients without leptomeningeal involvement.

Abstract
On December 20, 2018, a 40-year-old male patient with extremely severe flame burn was admitted to Guangzhou First People's Hospital. A variety of difficult illnesses occurred simultaneously (refractory hyperglycemia, refractory hypernatremia, and progressive wound deepening) and successively (repeatedly postoperative hypotension, nervous system diseases, and secondary diabetes insipidus). The patient underwent treatments such as anti-shock, reducing blood sugar and blood sodium, scab removing, and gradual skin grafting after admission. Although the hyperglycemia and hypernatremia were basically corrected and the wounds were basically repaired, the patient ultimately died of nervous system diseases and secondary diabetes insipidus 5 months later. Although the cause of the above illnesses can not be fully determined, the targeted treatments to improve clinical symptoms, maintain stable internal environment and physiological function, and accelerate the process of wound repair conducted by the team may provide some experience for the treatment of such severe patients.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the variation of arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) in patients with high-risk pulmonary embolism under mechanical ventilation. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the cases of high-risk pulmonary embolism who underwent intravenous thrombolysis in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 1, 2012, to May 1, 2022. The enrolled patients were divided into a mechanical-ventilated group and an active-breathing group according to whether they received invasive mechanical ventilation or not. The level of PaCO2 under active breathing between the two groups, the changes in PaCO2 before intubation, after intubation and after thrombolysis in the mechanical-ventilated group were compared. The 14-day all-cause mortality of the two groups was calculated and compared. Results: A total of 49 patients with high-risk pulmonary embolism were enrolled, including 22 patients in the mechanical-ventilated group and 27 patients in the active-breathing group. Before intubation, PaCO2 in both groups was lower than normal without statistically significant difference between the two groups. After effective thrombolysis therapy, PaCO2 in both groups recovered to the normal range. In the mechanical-ventilated group, PaCO2 significantly increased 11-147 min after intubation and returned to the normal range after thrombolysis therapy. The 14-day mortality in the mechanical-ventilated group was 54.5%, while all patients in the active-breathing group survived. Conclusions: Under mechanical controlled ventilation, patients with high-risk pulmonary embolism could represent hypercapnia which resolved after effective thrombolytic therapy. In mechanical ventilated patients with sudden-onset hypoxemia and hypercapnia, the possibility of high-risk pulmonary embolism should be considered.

Abstract
Variational treatment of the Dirac-Coulomb-Gaunt or Dirac-Coulomb-Breit two-electron interaction at the Dirac-Hartree-Fock level is the starting point of high-accuracy four-component calculations of atomic and molecular systems. In this work, we introduce, for the first time, the scalar Hamiltonians derived from the Dirac-Coulomb-Gaunt and Dirac-Coulomb-Breit operators based on spin separation in the Pauli quaternion basis. While the widely used spin-free Dirac-Coulomb Hamiltonian includes only the direct Coulomb and exchange terms that resemble nonrelativistic two-electron interactions, the scalar Gaunt operator adds a scalar spin-spin term. The spin separation of the gauge operator gives rise to an additional scalar orbit-orbit interaction in the scalar Breit Hamiltonian. Benchmark calculations of Aun (n = 2-8) show that the scalar Dirac-Coulomb-Breit Hamiltonian can capture 99.99% of the total energy with only 10% of the computational cost when real-valued arithmetic is used, compared to the full Dirac-Coulomb-Breit Hamiltonian. The scalar relativistic formulation developed in this work lays the theoretical foundation for the development of high-accuracy, low-cost correlated variational relativistic many-body theory.

Abstract
Childhood and adolescent obesity has become a global epidemic. The interventions mainly include lifestyle intervention, medication treatment and bariatric surgery. Among them, lifestyle intervention, especially intensive lifestyle intervention with participation of family members, is the first-line treatment for obesity in children and adolescents. Both medication and bariatric surgery are adjuvant treatments for severely obese children and adolescents. Currently, metformin is the most widely used drug for the treatment of obesity in children and adolescents in both China and other countries; orlistat and liraglutide are also the drugs that are safe and often used in other countries; other drugs are not recommended. As a tertiary prevention and treatment strategy for obesity, bariatric surgery should be carried out on the basis of good compliance from both the children and their family members, with the cooperation of multiple disciplines. Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) are the most common types of procedure performed. Meanwhile, as a new treatment method, intra-gastric balloon procedure needs to be paid more attention to its efficacy and safety.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and correlate the various factors including, but not limited to, educational status, socio-economic condition, body mass index (BMI), menstrual history, with the status and severity of POP. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted between August 2021 and September 2022 and suspected patients of POP were considered from the outpatient Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. The study has mainly used 3 indicators of socio-economic status, namely, occupation, education, and income. These factors were correlated and statistically analyzed with that of POP. RESULTS The study findings revealed that there are more symptomatic patients who are illiterate as compared to asymptomatic POP and with increasing education status, there is a decrease in symptomatic POP patients (p<0.05). Also, there is a significant proportion of symptomatic POP patients in the lower class and lower middle class as compared to asymptomatic patients in each class, respectively (p<0.05). It also found that micturition difficulty and vaginal bulging are significantly correlated with the stages of POP (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Educational status and socio-economic condition are significant indicators of the presence of symptoms or severity of POP. The study further concluded that menopausal females have more symptomatic POP as compared to pre-menopausal females.

Abstract
Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a common pediatric skeletal disease highly occurred in females. The pathogenesis of AIS has not been fully elucidated. Here, we reveal that ESR1 (Estrogen Receptor 1) expression declines in muscle stem/progenitor cells at the concave side of AIS patients. Furthermore, ESR1 is required for muscle stem/progenitor cell differentiation and disrupted ESR1 signaling leads to differentiation defects. The imbalance of ESR1 signaling in the para-spinal muscles induces scoliosis in mice, while reactivation of ESR1 signaling at the concave side by an FDA approved drug Raloxifene alleviates the curve progression. This work reveals that the asymmetric inactivation of ESR1 signaling is one of the causes of AIS. Reactivation of ESR1 signaling in para-spinal muscle by Raloxifene at the concave side could be a new strategy to treat AIS.

Abstract
Objective: To summarize the morphological characteristics of the transverse branch of lateral femoral circumflex artery (LFCA) using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and explore its clinical significance. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted. From October 2020 to May 2021, 62 patients with soft tissue injuries in the extremities were hospitalized in Suzhou Ruihua Orthopedic Hospital, including 40 males and 22 females, aged from 20 to 72 years. DSA was performed in the lateral femoral region of patients before the anterolateral thigh flap transplantation, and in combination with imaging scale to observe and measure the general condition of the blood vessels and the occurrence (with the occurrence rate being calculated), source artery, location of the origin point, direction of course, and the location of the perforating point of the cutaneous perforator of the transverse branch of LFCA, and in addition to classify the morphological characteristics of the transverse branch. Results: DSA detection showed that the femoral artery, the deep femoral artery, and the branches of LFCA were clearly distinguishable in 62 patients. Transverse branches of LFCA were observed in 59 patients, including 52 cases with a single transverse branch, and 7 cases with double transverse branches. The occurrence rate of transverse branches was 95.2% (59/62). A total of 66 transverse branches of LFCA were observed, of which 3 originated from the deep femoral artery, and 63 originated from the LFCA. The origin point of the transverse branch was 6.5-12.7 cm away from the anterior superior iliac spine. The transverse branch which was approximately perpendicular to the long axis of the body, originated outwards, ran between the ascending branch of LFCA and the oblique branch of LFCA, and branched along the way, with the trunk running under the greater trochanter. The perforating point of the cutaneous perforator of the transverse branch was 8.0-18.0 cm away from the anterior superior iliac spine. In the classification of morphological characteristics of the transverse branch of LFCA, the most common type was the one that originated from the same trunk with other branches of LFCA, accounting for 50.0% (31/62), followed by the one that originated from the singular trunk of LFCA (12 cases) or deep femoral artery (3 cases), accounting for 24.2% (15/62); the special type accounted for 21.0% (13/62), including 7 cases of double transverse branches and 6 cases of the transverse branch originated from the same trunk with multiple other branches of LFCA; those with small/absent transverse branch only accounted for 4.8% (3/62). Among the above-mentioned common trunk relationship of two branches, those with shared trunk of ascending and transverse branches were most frequently observed, accounting for 77.4% (24/31); those with shared trunks of the transverse and oblique branches (5 cases) and the transverse and descending branches (2 cases) accounted for 22.6% (7/31) altogether. Conclusions: A high incidence rate of the transverse branch of LFCA is observed through DSA. The transverse branch originates from the lateral femoral artery approximately perpendicular to the long axis of the body, mainly from the same trunk with another main branch of LFCA, especially the ascending branch. This positioning analysis can provide an important reference for the design and resection of anterolateral femoral flaps.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The soft regions of a thrombus tend to be more susceptible to r-tPA (recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator)-mediated thrombolysis and are more easily removed by mechanical thrombectomy than the stiff counterpart. This study aimed to understand the molecular pathological differences between the soft and stiff regions of human arterial thrombus. METHODS We developed a spatial proteomic workflow combining proteomics with laser-captured microdissection to analyze human arterial thrombi with Masson trichrome staining to identify stiff and soft regions from 2 independent cohorts of patients with acute myocardial or cerebral infarction. Dysregulated proteins in a C57BL6/J male mouse model of arterial thrombosis were identified by pathway enrichment and pairwise analyses from the common gene ontology enrichment and dysregulated proteins between carotid and coronary arterial thrombi, and validated by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS Spatial proteomics of the coronary arterial thrombi collected from 7 patients with myocardial infarct revealed 7 common dysregulated proteins in 2 cohorts of patients, and upregulation of TGF-β1 (transforming growth factor β1) was the most prominent fibrosis-related protein. Inhibition of TGF-β1 resulted in delayed arterial thrombosis and accelerated blood flow restoration in mouse model. We further expanded the spatial proteomic workflow to the carotid artery thrombi collected from 11 patients with cerebral infarction. Pairwise proteomic analysis of stiff and soft regions between carotid and coronary arterial thrombi further revealed 5 common gene ontology clusters including features of platelet activation, and a common dysregulated protein COL1A1 (collagen type 1 alpha 1) that was reported to be influenced by TGF-β1. We also verified the expression in human and mice carotid arterial thrombi. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates the spatially distinct composition of proteins in the stiff and soft regions of human arterial thrombi, and suggests that TGF-β1 is a key therapeutic target for promoting arterial thrombolysis.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the efficiency and safety of collar-button type keratoprosthesis (c-bKPro) implantation for corneal blindness in high-risk transplantation in China. Methods: It was a case series study. High-risk corneal blind patients who planned to undergo c-bKPro implantation were prospectively and continuously enrolled in the Eye Hospital of Shandong First Medical University, Ophthalmology Division of Chinese PLA General Hospital, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Department of Ophthalmology in Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University, and Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from July 2019 to January 2020. The cure for blindness and surgical success were assessed based on visual acuity (VA)≥0.05. The complications and keratoprosthesis retention rate were recorded to determine the safety of the surgery. Results: Thirty-seven subjects (eyes) were included, of which 32 were male and 5 were female, aged 27 to 72 years old. The indications of c-bKPro implantation were corneal graft failure (21 eyes, 56.8%), chemical injury (8 eyes, 21.6%), thermal burn (5 eyes, 13.5%), unexplained corneal opacity (2 eyes, 5.4%), and corneal perforation (1 eye, 2.7%). Two patients withdrew from the clinical trial at 3 months postoperatively. Thirty-five patients were followed up for 6 months, and 31 were followed up for 12 months. The VA was ≥0.05 in 83.8% of eyes at 6 months and in 81.8% of eyes at 12 months. Among the 11 eyes diagnosed with concurrent glaucoma, 6 eyes achieved a VA of ≥0.05. At 12 months, the c-bKPro retention rate was 100%. The surgical complications included retroprosthetic membrane formation (5 eyes, 16.1%), persistent corneal epithelial defects (5 eyes, 16.1%), macular edema (4 eyes, 12.9%), new-onset glaucoma (4 eyes, 12.5%; including one eye withdrawn from the study at 3 months), sterile corneal melting (2 eyes, 6.5%), sterile vitritis (1 eye, 3.2%), and infectious keratitis (1 eye, 3.2%). Conclusions: C-bKPro implantation is an effective and safe option for treating corneal blindness in high-risk transplantation in China. Improved visual outcomes could be achieved in most cases, with a relatively low incidence of postoperative complications.

Abstract
PURPOSE The effects of calorie restriction (CR) on gut microbiota and the mechanism of CR ameliorating hyperglycemia in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced T2DM model rats were explored. METHODS High-fat diet and STZ injection were applied to induce T2DM model rats. Rats were divided into the following three groups: the control-diet ad libitum group, the T2DM model group fed with ad libitum diet, and the T2DM group fed with 30% restriction diet. 16S rRNA sequencing was used to determine the bacterial communities. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-binding protein (LBP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were measured. RESULTS Glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity were improved by CR, as well as the levels of fasting and random plasma glucose. Besides, CR not only modulated the overall structure of gut microbiota but also had selective enrichment in anti-inflammatory bacteria such as Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group, Ruminococcaceae_9, Allobaculum, Alistipes, and Oscillibacter, and decreased pro-inflammatory pathogenic bacteria such as Bacteroides, Lachnoclostridium, and Bifidobacterium. Tax4Fun indicated that CR could regulate related functional pathways such as lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis, and the plasma levels of LBP, IL-6, and TNF-α were markedly reduced by CR, suggesting the mechanism of CR ameliorating hyperglycemia may associate with the modulation of disordered gut microbiota and the reduction of metabolic endotoxemia and inflammation. CONCLUSION CR could ameliorate hyperglycemia, the mechanism of which may associate with the alteration of the overall structure of gut microbiota, restoration of disordered microbiota function, and the downregulation of metabolic endotoxemia and inflammation in diabetic rats.
