Abstract
Regulation on gut microbiota and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are believed to be a pathway to suppress the development of metabolic syndrome. In this study, three Lactobacillus strains derived from the human gut were investigated for their effects on alleviation of metabolic disorders. These strains were individually administered to metabolic disorder rats induced by high-fat-high-sucrose (HFHS) diet. Each strain exhibited its own characteristics in attenuating the impaired glucose-insulin homeostasis, hepatic oxidative damage and steatosis. Correlation analysis between SCFAs and host metabolic parameters suggested that Lactobacillus protective effects on metabolic disorders are partly mediated by recovery of SCFAs production, especially the faecal acetic acid. Correspondingly, it indicated that probiotics restore the gut microbiota dysbiosis in different extent, thereby protect against metabolic disorders in a manner that is associated with microbiota, but not totally reverse the changed composition of microbiota to the normal state. Thus, Lactobacillus strains partly protect against diet-induced metabolic syndrome by microbiota modulation and acetate elevation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Predicting malignant cerebral edema can help identify patients who may benefit from appropriate evidence-based interventions. We investigated whether absent cortical venous filling is associated with more pronounced early brain edema, which leads to malignant cerebral edema. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with acute ischemic stroke caused by large-vessel occlusion in the MCA territory who presented between July 2017 and September 2019 to our hospital were included. Collateral filling was rated using the modified Tan scale on CTA, and good collaterals were defined as a score of 2-3. The Cortical Vein Opacification Score (COVES) was calculated, and absent cortical venous filling was defined as a score of 0. Early brain edema was determined using net water uptake on baseline CT images. Malignant cerebral edema was defined as a midline shift of ≥5 mm on follow-up imaging or a massive cerebral swelling leading to decompressive hemicraniectomy or death. Multivariate linear and logistic regression models were performed to analyze data. RESULTS A total of 163 patients were included. Net water uptake was significantly higher in patients with absent than in those with favorable cortical venous filling (8.1% versus 4.2%; P < .001). In the multivariable regression analysis, absent cortical venous filling (β = 2.04; 95% CI, 0.75-3.32; P = .002) was significantly and independently associated with higher net water uptake. Absent cortical venous filling (OR, 14.68; 95% CI, 4.03-53.45; P < .001) and higher net water uptake (OR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.05-1.58; P = .016) were significantly associated with increased likelihood of malignant cerebral edema. CONCLUSIONS Patients with absent cortical venous filling were associated with an increased early brain edema and a higher risk of malignant cerebral edema. These patients may be targeted for optimized adjuvant antiedematous treatment.

The true incidence of chromosomal mosaicism after preimplantation genetic testing is much lower than that indicated by trophectoderm biopsy. Hum Reprod 2021; 36:1691-1701. Abstract
STUDY QUESTION What is the true incidence of chromosomal mosaicism in embryos analyzed by preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). SUMMARY ANSWER The true incidence of chromosomal mosaicism is much lower than we usually surmise. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY In recent years, contemporary methods for chromosome analysis, along with the biopsy of more than one cell, have given rise to an increased rate of chromosomal mosaicism detection after preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy. However, the exorbitant incidence of mosaicism represents a dilemma and imposes restrictions on the application of PGT treatment. Concern has been raised about the possibility that the incidence of chromosomal mosaicism is overestimated and quite a few of the results are false-positive errors. However, studies verifying the diagnosis of chromosomal mosaicism and assessing the true incidence of chromosomal mosaicism are limited. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION A total of 1719 blastocysts from 380 patients who underwent PGT treatment were retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the typical incidence of mosaicism. Then 101 embryos donated by 70 couples were re-biopsied and dissected into three portions if available: trophectoderm (TE), inner cell mass (ICM), and the remaining portions. All the portions were tested using next-generation sequencing (NGS), and the results were compared to the original diagnosis. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS The setting for this study was a university-affiliated center with an in-house PGT laboratory. All samples were amplified with multiple annealing and looping-based amplification cycles (MALBACs) and the NGS was carried out on a Life Technologies Ion Proton platform. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE A clinical TE biopsy revealed an incidence of 11.9% for diploid-aneuploid mosaicism (DAM), 17.3% for aneuploid mosaicism (AM) and 29.1% in total. After rebiopsy, 94.1% whole-chromosome aneuploidies and 82.8% segmental-chromosome aneuploidies were confirmed in the embryos. As for the mosaic errors, only 32 (31.7%) out of 101 embryos presented with uniform chromosomal aberrations in agreement with the original biopsy results, 15 (14.8%) embryos presented with de novo chromosomal aberrations, and 54 (53.5%) embryos showed a euploid profile in all portions. Among the 32 uniform embryos, the true mosaicism was confirmed in only 4 cases, where a reciprocal chromosomal aberration was identified; 14 embryos presented with identical mosaicism, providing the moderate evidence for true mosaicism; and 14 embryos displayed uniform full aneuploidies in all portions of embryo, revealing a high-grade mosaicism or a false-negative diagnosis. Logistical regression analysis revealed that the concordance rate with ICM was associated with the type and level of mosaicism. The concordance rate of segmental-chromosome mosaicism was significantly lower than whole-chromosome mosaicism (adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR): 5.137 (1.061, 24.876), P = 0.042) and compared to DAM, the concordance rate of AM was significantly higher (aOR: 6.546 (1.354, 31.655), P = 0.019). The concordance rate also increased with increasing levels of mosaicism (P < 0.001). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION This study was limited by a small sample size and the use of a single whole-genome amplification (WGA) method and NGS platform. These findings are only applicable to samples subjected to MALBAC amplification and Ion Proton platform, and studies involving larger sample sizes and multiple WGA methods and NGS platforms are required to prove our findings. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS TE biopsy is reliable to detect whole-chromosome aneuploidies, but the ability to diagnose mosaicism is doubtful. More attention should be paid to false-positive and false-negative errors in NGS-based PGT, especially for laboratories using less stringent criteria for mosaicism classification (i.e. 20-80%), which might be subject to a much higher false-positive mosaicism rate in the practice. Abstract
The South African Salvia species, Salvia africana-lutea, S. lanceolata and S. chamelaeagnea, are widely used to treat fever and inflammation associated with skin and lung infections. The aim of this study was to explore the non-volatile secondary metabolites and the phytochemical variation within these lesser known species, to support product development and commercialisation. Chemical profiles of the methanol extracts of 81 wild-harvested samples were obtained using ultra performance-quadrupole-Time-of-Flight-mass spectrometry (UPLC-qToF-MS). Forty-one compounds, including caffeic acid, rosmarinic acid, carnosol, carnosic acid and ursolic acid, were detected and confirmed across the three species. Nineteen compounds were tentatively identified of which 14 have not been reported in these species. Principal component analysis revealed distinct clusters corresponding to the three species, confirming chemical differences. Marker compounds for each species were revealed using orthogonal projection to latent structures-discriminant analysis. Further chemometric analysis reflected a degree of intraspecies variation, although the chemistry within populations was mostly conserved. Potential chemotypes for each species were identified through unique compounds associated with each group. The concentrations of medicinally important metabolites, namely, rosmarinic acid, carnosol, carnosic acid and ursolic acid, were determined, using validated UPLC-PDA methods. Ursolic acid was present at levels up to 38.2 mg/g, confirming that these species are a rich source of this compound. No similar studies combining liquid chromatography with chemometric analysis, and utilising a large sample size from various habitats, have been reported for these three Salvia species. The results will guide selection of cultivars with the best attributes for the intended therapeutic application, thereby protecting wild populations from over-exploitation.

Abstract
AIM To compare and assess T1rho values of the femorotibial cartilage compartments and subregional menisci in patients with hyperuricaemia at 3 T. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-two patients were enrolled in the study and were subdivided into two subgroups: 15 healthy controls (three women, 12 men; mean age = 45.3 ± 10.9 years, age range 25-72 years) and 17 patients with asymptomatic hyperuricaemia (two women, 15 men; mean age = 44.4 ± 12.7 years, age range 26-77 years). All patients were evaluated using 3 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using an eight-channel phased-array knee coil (transmit-receive). Wilcoxon's rank sum test and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were conducted to determine whether there were any statistically significant differences in the T1rho values of the femorotibial cartilage compartments and subregional menisci between the two subgroups. RESULTS Lateral tibial cartilage (45.8 ± 2.9 ms) in the healthy subgroup had significantly lower (p<0.05) T1rho values than those of all subcompartments of the femorotibial cartilage in the hyperuricaemia subgroup. The lateral femoral cartilage (LF) in hyperuricaemia (54.6 ± 3.9 ms) subgroup had significantly higher (p<0.05) T1rho values than those of all subcompartments of the femorotibial cartilage except the LF in the healthy subgroup. Significantly higher (p<0.05) T1rho values existed in the LF of the healthy (54.6 ± 4.7 ms) subgroup in comparison with those of all subcompartments of femorotibial cartilage except the LF in hyperuricaemia subgroup. CONCLUSIONS T1rho values in certain compartments of the femorotibial cartilage in patients with hyperuricaemia are elevated compared to those in healthy patients presumably due to reduced proteoglycan content, to which particular attention should be paid when diagnosing and treating the patients with hyperuricaemia in a clinical setting.

Abstract
Novel spherical polymer nanoparticles were synthesized by hyperbranched polyethylenimine (hPEI) and 6-hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde (HNA) via Schiff base reaction (one-pot reaction), which had great advantages in water solubility and green synthesis. Meanwhile, probe PEI-HNA could quickly detect Cu2+ in the range of 0-60 μM in 30 s with the detection limit of 243 nM. The fluorescence of PEI-HNA-Cu2+ could be recovered by the addition of S2- in 50 s with the detection limit of 227 nM. Based on the excellent optical properties, PEI-HNA has been used in the bioimaging of living cells with excellent cell penetrability and low toxicity. More importantly, PEI-HNA has been doped into filter paper, hydrogel, and nanofibrous film to prepare solid-phase sensors, displaying rapid response and excellent sensitivity. Moreover, the low-cost and simple preparation of these sensors offers great potential and possibilities for industrialization, which could help accelerate the development of sensors in environmental and biological fields.

Abstract
Regional warming and atmospheric ozone (O3 ) pollution are two of the most important environmental issues, and commonly coexist in many areas. Both factors have an intense impact on plants. However, little information is available on the combined and interactive effects of air warming and elevated O3 concentrations on physiological characteristics of plants. To explore this issue, we studied variations in growth, photosynthesis and physiological characteristics of leaves of Acer ginnala seedlings exposed to control (ambient temperature and O3 ), increasing air temperature (ambient temperature + 2 °C), elevated O3 (ambient O3 concentration + 40 ppb) and a combination of the two abiotic factors at different phenological stages by using open-top chambers. The results showed that increasing air temperature had no significant effect on growth, but increased photosynthesis and antioxidant enzyme activity at the leaf unfolding and defoliation stages. In contrast, elevated O3 decreased growth and photosynthesis and caused oxidative stress injury in A. ginnala leaves at each phenological stage. The combination of increasing air temperature and elevated O3 improved growth and net photosynthetic rates of tested plants and alleviated the oxidative stress compared to O3 alone. Our findings demonstrated that moderate warming was beneficial to A. ginnala at leaf unfolding and defoliation stages, and alleviated the adverse effects of O3 stress on growth, photosynthesis and the antioxidant system. These results will provide a theoretical reference and scientific basis for the adaptation and response of A. ginnala under regional air warming and atmospheric O3 pollution.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To assess factors associated with long-term haemoptysis recurrence after transarterial embolisation (TAE) for haemoptysis due to bronchiectasis.METHODS: Patients with haemoptysis due to bronchiectasis who underwent TAE between May 2010 and May 2019 were included in this retrospective study. Long-term haemoptysis recurrence was defined as the expectoration of >10 mL/day of fresh blood (for at least 1 day) 1 month after TAE. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify risk factors for long-term haemoptysis recurrence after TAE.RESULTS: A total of 197 patients (108 women; mean age, 61.0 ± 12.2 years) were included in the study. TAE was performed successfully in all patients. Side effects occurred in 43 (21.8%) patients, and all patients recovered uneventfully. During 37.6 ± 11.6 months of follow-up, long-term haemoptysis recurrence occurred in 41 (20.8%) patients; the mean interval between the TAE and haemoptysis recurrence was 21.4 ± 16.3 months. Long-term haemoptysis recurrence after TAE was associated with a history of haemoptysis (OR 3.483, 95% CI 1.373-8.836; P = 0.009).CONCLUSIONS: Approximately one fifth patients with bronchiectasis had long-term haemoptysis recurrence after TAE. Risk factor for long-term haemoptysis recurrence after TAE was a history of haemoptysis.

Abstract
Some traditional Chinese decoctions, such as Zhuyu Annao, exert favorable therapeutic effects on acute cerebral hemorrhage, hemorrhagic stroke, and other neurological diseases, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to determine whether Zhuyu Annao decoction (ZYAND) protects the injured brain by promoting angiogenesis following intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and elucidate its specific mechanism. The effect of ZYAND on the nervous system of mice after ICH was explored through behavioral experiments, such as the Morris water maze and Rotarod tests, and its effects on oxidative stress were explored by detecting several oxidative stress markers, including malondialdehyde, nitric oxide, glutathione peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase. Real-time quantitative RT-PCR and WB were used to detect the effects of ZYAND on the levels of prolyl hydroxylase domain 3 (PHD3), hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the brain tissues of mice. The effect of ZYAND on the NF-κB signaling pathway was detected using a luciferase reporter gene. A human umbilical cord vascular endothelial cell angiogenesis experiment was performed to determine whether ZYAND promotes angiogenesis. The Morris water maze test and other behavioral experiments verified that ZYAND improved the neurobehavior of mice after ICH. ZYAND activated the PHD3/HIF-1α signaling pathway, inhibiting the oxidative damage caused by ICH. In angiogenesis experiments, it was found that ZYAND promoted VEGF-induced angiogenesis by upregulating the expression of HIF-1α, and NF-κB signaling regulated the expression of HIF-1α by inhibiting PHD3. ZYAND exerts a reparative effect on brain tissue damaged after ICH through the NF-κB/ PHD3/HIF-1α/VEGF signaling axis.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the spatiotemporal distribution and macro-related factors of congenital syphilis in Guangdong province and provide suggestions and recommendations for prevention. Methods: Yearly reported cases of syphilis and some influencing factor data of Guangdong province were collected from 2005 to 2017. The spatiotemporal distribution of congenital syphilis was described. Meanwhile, the spatial panel data model was constructed to analyze the relationship between the incidence rates of congenital syphilis and related factors. Results: From 2005 to 2017, 13 361 cases of congenital syphilis were reported in Guangdong province. The number of congenital syphilis cases rose to its highest point during 2005-2011. A slow downward trend followed. The peaks of incidence were observed from August to December. The incidence of the non-Pearl River Delta region has experienced a process of rising first and then decreasing. The spatial panel data model results showed that congenital syphilis had significant positive spatial autocorrelation (P<0.001). The incidence of primary and secondary syphilis in women (β=0.822,P<0.001), gross domestic product per capita (β=3.511,P<0.001), net migrate rate (β=0.215,P=0.047) and maternal system management rate(β=0.017,P=0.021) were all positively correlated with the incidence rates of congenital syphilis. Registered population density (β=-1.167,P<0.001) and prenatal examination rate (β=-0.038,P=0.031) was negatively correlated with congenital syphilis. Conclusions: The incidence of congenital syphilis was spatially aggregated in Guangdong province from 2005 to 2017. The intensity of prevention might be strengthened in cities with developed economies and high net migration rates, which have high risks of congenital syphilis. Controlling the incidence of primary and secondary syphilis in women and increasing the prenatal examination rate for pregnant women appears effective prevention measures of congenital syphilis.

Abstract
The potential for Ni toxicity in seawater is of concern because of mining and processing activities in coastal regions. Determining Ni speciation is vital to understanding and predicting Ni toxicity and for bioavailability-based nickel risk assessment. The goal of this study was to characterize the complexation of Ni in relation to toxicity using embryological development of purple sea urchin (S. purpuratus). It was predicted that free ion [Ni2+] would be a better predictor of toxicity than total dissolved Ni concentrations (NiD). Synthetic ligands with known logKf values (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), Nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), tryptophan (TRP), glutamic acid (GA), histidine (HD), and citric acid (CA)) were used to test the assumptions of the biotic ligand model (BLM) for Ni in seawater. [NiD] was measured by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy (GFAAS) and Ni2+ was first quantified using the ion-exchange technique (IET) and then concentrations were measured by GFAAS; [Ni2+] was also estimated using aquatic geochemistry modelling software (Visual Minteq). The mean EC50 values for [NiD] in unmodified artificial seawater control was 3.6 µM (95% CI 3.0-4.5) [211 µg/L 95% CI 176-264] and the addition of ligands provided protection, up to 6.5-fold higher [NiD] EC50 for EDTA. Compared to the control, measured EC50 values based on total dissolved nickel were higher in the presence of ligands. As predicted by BLM theory, [Ni2+] was a better predictor of Ni toxicity with 17% variability in EDTA and CA media while there was 72% variability in the prediction of Ni toxicity with total dissolved Ni. The results of this research provide support for the application of BLM- based prediction models for estimating Ni impacts in seawater.

Abstract
Aim To profile molecular changes in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced experimental pulpitis in a rat model and explore the feasibility of a molecular‐based diagnostic strategy for pulpitis. Methodology Seventy‐three maxillary incisors of Sprague‐Dawley rats were used to establish pulpitis models with LPS. Inflammatory grading was performed in four equal sections of the pulp divided from the injured site to the root apex. An antibody array was used to compare the expression of 67 molecules between control pulp and inflamed pulp 12 and 72 h after LPS application. The levels of differentially expressed molecules in the control and inflamed pulp (collected at 3, 6, 9, 12, 24 and 72 h after LPS treatment) were examined via ELISA, and correlations between inflammatory scores and molecule expression were assessed. The molecule distributions in the pulp were investigated by immunofluorescence staining. Data were analysed with paired t‐test, one‐way anova, Kruskal–Wallis tests, and Spearman’s and Pearson’s correlations with significance set at P < 0.05. Results Polymorphonuclear neutrophils were observed in the injured site 3 h after LPS stimulation. Inflammatory infiltration peaked at 12 h and was limited to the injured site with osteodentine deposition at 72 h. Thirteen molecules were significantly differentially expressed between the control and LPS‐injured pulp. ELISA validated that tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase‐1 (TIMP‐1) expression dramatically peaked at 12 h (compared with other time points, P < 0.05) and returned to baseline at 72 h. The TIMP‐1 concentration was strongly correlated with inflammation severity in the apical three‐quarters of the pulp, and the strongest correlation was found in the lower‐middle quarter (r = 0.786, P < 0.001). Immunofluorescence staining revealed that in the apical three‐quarters of the pulp, TIMP‐1 expression was significantly higher in the 12 h group than in the control and 3, 6, 24 and 72 h groups (P < 0.01). Conclusion This study provides a molecular profile of LPS‐induced pulpitis in a rat model. TIMP‐1 had a strong positive correlation with the severity of dental pulp inflammation, verifying the feasibility of applying biomarkers to identify specific pathological conditions in pulpitis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the relationship between micro ribonucleic acid (miR)-375 in regulating the N-Myc downstream-regulated gene 2 (Ndrg2)/interleukin-6 (IL-6)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway and diabetic retinopathy (DR) in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty Sprague- Dawley rats were randomly divided into Control group (n=10), Model group (n=10), and miR-375 inhibitor group [miR-375 small interfering RNA (siRNA) group, n=10]. The rats in Model group were injected with streptozotocin (STZ) via the tail vein to prepare into rat models of diabetes. The body weight, fasting blood glucose, and retinal barrier permeability of rats in each group were detected. The levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in rat serum were measured using kits. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay was performed to determine the apoptosis of optic ganglion cells in rat retinal tissues. Additionally, the messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein levels of Ndrg2, IL-6 and STAT3 in rat retinal tissues were detected via reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blotting, respectively. RESULTS Compared with Control group, Model group had reduced body weight of rats, increased blood glucose and retinal permeability of rats, raised serum MDA content, decreased SOD activity, up-regulated apoptotic rate of optic ganglia, and notably elevated mRNA and protein levels of Ndrg2, IL-6 and STAT3 in retinal tissues. Compared with those in Model group, the body weight of rats declined, the blood glucose of rats rose, the retinal permeability of rats was decreased significantly, the serum MDA content was reduced, the SOD activity was raised, the apoptotic rate of optic ganglia was decreased, and the mRNA and protein levels of Ndrg2, IL-6 and STAT3 in retinal tissues were also decreased significantly in miR-375 siRNA group. CONCLUSIONS MiR-375 inhibitors are able to reduce blood glucose, retinal permeability, and optic ganglion apoptosis in rats with DR, and the mechanism of action may be related to the regulation on the Ndrg2/IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) differentiate into oligodendrocytes (OLs) that provide nutrients to neurons. Adrenal medulla is (ADM) involved in nerve damage. MiR-24 participates in various diseases. However, the regulation and mechanism of miR-24 in oligodendrocyte precursor cell differentiation after spinal injury is unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Wistar rats were divided into sham operation group and model group. Real Time-PCR detects miR-24, PDGFRa and NG2 and MBP expression. OPC cells were cultured and divided into control group, miR-24 group, and si-miR-24 group followed by analysis of miR-24 expression by Real Time-PCR, expression of PDGFRa, NG2 and MBP by Western blot, as well as ADM content and secretion of IL-6 and TNF-α by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS Expression of miR-24, PDGFRa, and NG2 was increased in the model group and MBP and ADM expression was decreased with increased secretion of IL-6 and TNF-α. Compared with control group, the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). Upregulation of miR-24 promoted the expression of PDGFRa and NG2, decreased MBP and ADM level, and increased IL-6 and TNF-α secretion. Compared with control group, the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). Downregulation of miR-24 reversed the above changes, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS MiR-24 expression is increased in spinal injury. Upregulation of miR-24 expression reduces adrenal medulla expression and inhibits oligodendrocyte precursor cell differentiation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) is a disorder characterized by recurrent upper airway obstruction, apnea, and hypopnea, associated with decreased oxygen saturation and disturbed sleep structure during sleep. It was found that OSAS was associated with a variety of arrhythmia and conduction disorders, but the relationship between multiple types of arrhythmia and the severity of OSAS, and its possible mechanism remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to observe the main types of arrhythmia and the condition of heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with OSAS, to detect the levels of multiple inflammatory factors in serum of OSAS patients, and to observe the correlation between polysomnographic parameters or inflammatory factors, and arrhythmia or HRV, as well as its possible mechanisms. PATIENTS AND METHODS 141 patients with suspected OSAS were collected in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University and Xinghua People's Hospital from February 2016 to February 2018. According to the sleep apnea hypopnea index (AHI), they were divided into control group (AHI <5, n = 34), mild-moderate OSAS group (5≤ AHI <30, n = 48), and severe OSAS group (AHI ≥30, n = 59). Clinical data such as gender and age were collected. All patients completed polysomnography (PSG), 24-hour Holter monitoring and blood routine, biochemical indexes and serum hs-CRP, TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β testing. The indicators in the three groups were compared, and the correlation between PSG parameters, HRV and inflammatory biomarkers was investigated. RESULTS Compared with control group, there were significant differences in age, sex ratio, BMI, uric acid, TC, and TG in the mild-moderate OSAS group (p<0.05), and in age, sex ratio, BMI, red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, uric acid, FBS, TC, TG, LDL, and HDL in severe OSAS group (p<0.05). There were significant differences in gender ratio, BMI, red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, uric acid, FBS, TC, TG, LDL, and HDL between mild-moderate OSAS group and severe OSAS group (p<0.05). Heart rate variability (HRV) parameters include SDNN, SDNN index, RMSSD, PNN50, LF, HF, and LF/HF. SDNN, PNN50, and HF in severe OSAS group and mild-moderate OSAS group were significantly lower than those in control group (p<0.05). LF/HF was significantly higher than that of control group (p<0.05). There was a significant difference in PNN50, HF, and LF/HF between severe OSAS group and mild-moderate OSAS group (p<0.05). In terms of inflammation, serum hs-CRP was significantly higher in mild-moderate OSAS group and severe OSAS group than that in control group (p<0.05). Serum IL-1β was significantly higher in mild-moderate OSAS group than that in severe OSAS group (p<0.05). There was no significant difference in other indicators (p>0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between hs-CRP and oxygen reduction index (ODI) (r=0.209, p=0.013) and a significant negative correlation with PNN50 (r=-0.188, p=0.025). There is no significant correlation between other indicators. CONCLUSIONS Systemic inflammatory reactions existed in patients with OSAS. With the increase of OSAS, inflammation was aggravated, especially serum hs-CRP. Hs-CRP was significantly and negatively correlated with PNN50 and positively correlated with ODI. The results suggested that the inflammatory response was involved in the occurrence of heart rate variability in OSAS patients.

Potentially preventable hospitalisations for physical health conditions in community mental health service users: a population-wide linkage study. Epidemiol Psychiatr Sci 2021; 30:e22. Abstract
AIMS Mental health (MH) service users have increased prevalence of chronic physical conditions such as cardio-respiratory diseases and diabetes. Potentially Preventable Hospitalisations (PPH) for physical health conditions are an indicator of health service access, integration and effectiveness, and are elevated in long term studies of people with MH conditions. We aimed to examine whether PPH rates were elevated in MH service users over a 12-month follow-up period more suitable for routine health indicator reporting. We also examined whether MH service users had increased PPH rates at a younger age, potentially reflecting the younger onset of chronic physical conditions. METHODS A population-wide data linkage in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, population 7.8 million. PPH rates in 178 009 people using community MH services in 2016-2017 were compared to population rates. Primary outcomes were crude and age- and disadvantage-standardised annual PPH episode rate (episodes per 100 000 population), PPH day rate (hospital days per 100 000) and adjusted incidence rate ratios (AIRR). RESULTS MH service users had higher rates of PPH admission (AIRR 3.6, 95% CI 3.5-3.6) and a larger number of hospital days (AIRR 5.2, 95% CI 5.2-5.3) than other NSW residents due to increased likelihood of admission, more admissions per person and longer length of stay. Increases were greatest for vaccine-preventable conditions (AIRR 4.7, 95% CI 4.5-5.0), and chronic conditions (AIRR 3.7, 95% CI 3.6-3.7). The highest number of admissions and relative risks were for respiratory and metabolic conditions, including chronic obstructive airways disease (AIRR 5.8, 95% CI 5.5-6.0) and diabetic complications (AIRR 5.4, 95% CI 5.1-5.8). One-quarter of excess potentially preventable bed days in MH service users were due to vaccine-related conditions, including vaccine-preventable respiratory illness. Age-related increases in risk occurred earlier in MH service users, particularly for chronic and vaccine-preventable conditions. PPH rates in MH service users aged 20-29 were similar to population rates of people aged 60 and over. These substantial differences were not explained by socio-economic disadvantage. CONCLUSIONS PPHs for physical health conditions are substantially increased in people with MH conditions. Short term (12-month) PPH rates may be a useful lead indicator of increased physical morbidity and less accessible, integrated or effective health care. High hospitalisation rates for vaccine-preventable respiratory infections and hepatitis underline the importance of vaccination in MH service users and suggests potential benefits of prioritising this group for COVID-19 vaccination.

Abstract
Sepsis is an intractable clinical syndrome characterized by organ dysfunction when the body over-responds to an infection. Sepsis has a high fatality rate and lacks effective treatment. Family with sequence similarity 96 member A (FAM96A) is an evolutionarily conserved protein with high expression in the immune system and is related to cytosolic iron assembly and tumour suppression; however, research has been rarely conducted on its immune functions. Our study found that Fam96a-/- mice significantly resisted lesions during sepsis simulated by caecal ligation and puncture (CLP) or endotoxicosis models. After a challenge with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or infection, Fam96a-/- mice exhibited less organ damage, longer survival and better bacterial clearance with decreased levels of proinflammatory cytokines. While screening several subsets of immune cells, FAM96A-expressing macrophages as the key cell type inhibited sepsis development. In-vivo macrophage depletion or adoptive transfer experiments abrogated significant differences in the survival of sepsis between Fam96a-/- and wild-type mice. Results of the bone marrow-derived macrophage (BMDM) polarization experiment indicated that FAM96A deficiency promotes the transformation of uncommitted monocytes/macrophages (M0) into M2 macrophages, secreting fewer proinflammatory cytokines. FAM96A may mediate an immunometabolism shift - from oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) to glycolysis - in macrophages during sepsis, mirrored by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and glucose uptake. These data demonstrate that FAM96A regulates inflammatory response and provide a novel genomic insight for sepsis treatment.

Abstract
Abstract
A comparative analysis of heat transfer characteristic in pulsating flow induced by rolling motion under natural circulation and forced circulation condition was performed. Variation of local and average heat transfer characteristics with rolling motion were also investigated. The results show that the natural circulation time-averaged heat transfer characteristic is enhanced by rolling motion. However, the variation of time-averaged heat transfer characteristic of forced circulation is not significant. In addition, the relationship between the relative pulsation amplitude of Reynolds number and Nusselt number does not present predominant difference in natural and forced circulation conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Noninvasive methods have been used for the assessment of hepatic steatosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The aim was to assess the efficacy and accuracy of both magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and transient elastography(TE) for the evaluation of hepatic steatosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, MEDLINE and Web of Science databases were searched to retrieve studies examining the accuracy of MRI-proton density fat fraction(PDFF) and TE-controlled attenuation parameter(CAP) for evaluating the grading of steatosis(S0-S3) diagnosed by liver biopsy in NAFLD. We compared the sensitivity, specificity, hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic curves(HSROC) and clinical utility of these methods. RESULTS Twenty-four articles with a total of 2979 patients with NAFLD were included. The steatosis distribution was 8.1%/35.1%/32.2%/24.6% for S0/S1/S2/S3. For the diagnostic accuracy of MRI-PDFF, the HSROCs were 0.97 for ≥S1, 0.91 for ≥S2 and 0.90 for ≥S3. For the diagnostic accuracy of TE-based CAP, the HSROCs were 0.85 for ≥S1, 0.83 for ≥S2 and 0.79 for ≥S3. Following a 'positive' measurement (over the threshold value) for ≥S1, the corresponding post-test probabilities of PDFF and CAP for the presence of steatosis were 82% and 61%, respectively, when the pretest probability was 24%. If the values were below these thresholds ('negative' results), the post-test probabilities were 3% and 7%. CONCLUSION MRI-PDFF and TE-CAP both provide highly accurate noninvasive approaches for quantifying and staging hepatic steatosis in NAFLD. Compared with TE-CAP, MRI-PDFF is significantly more accurate for evaluating dichotomized grades of steatosis.

Abstract
This study was aimed at studying use of reduced dietary crude protein (CP) level supplemented with additional amino acids in laying ducks. A total of 720 Jingjiang ducks (50 wk) were randomly assigned to 5 treatments and fed 5 basal diets with CP levels at 17.5, 16.5, 15.5, 14.5, or 13.5%, with additional amino acids added to each diet for 12 wk. Each treatment had 6 replicates of 24 ducks each. Dietary CP levels affected (P < 0.05) egg production and mass of laying ducks, and there was a linear and quadratic decrease with decreasing CP levels (P < 0.05). Dietary CP levels did not affect egg weight and feed conversion ratio (FCR), but egg weight decreased linearly (P < 0.05); FCR increased linearly and quadratically (P < 0.05) with decreasing CP levels. There were no significant differences in egg quality among the different CP levels (P > 0.05). Ovarian weight, total and mean weight of preovulatory follicles, and total weight of small yellow follicles (SYF) were decreased by dietary CP levels (linear, P < 0.01 and quadratic, P < 0.05). The oviductal weight decreased linearly (P < 0.05), and the number of SYF decreased linearly and quadratically with decreasing CP levels (P < 0.05). The serum estradiol content decreased linearly with dietary CP levels (P < 0.05). The serum contents of luteinizing hormone, prolactin, and progesterone decreased (P < 0.05), linearly and quadratically (both P < 0.01) with decreasing CP levels. The serum contents of creatinine (CRE), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activity were affected (P < 0.05) by different dietary CP levels. The total protein content increased linearly (P < 0.05), TC content increased quadratically (P < 0.05), and contents of albumin, CRE, TG, and phosphorus, and activities of aspartate aminotransferase and ALT increased linearly and quadratically (both P < 0.05) with decreasing CP levels. Overall, reduced dietary CP levels with addition of amino acids affected the laying performance, the development of reproductive organs and ovarian follicles, serum hormones, and biochemical indices of laying ducks. Dietary CP levels can be reduced to 14.5% with additional amino acid supplementation for 12 wk in laying ducks without negative effect on laying performance and egg quality.

Abstract
Highly sensitive capacitive-type pressure sensor has been achieved by fabricating reliefs on solution-processable hydrogel electrodes. Hybrid PVA/PANI hydrogels (PVA, poly(vinyl alcohol); PANI, polyaniline) with a fully physically cross-linked binary network are selected as the electrodes of the pressure sensors. On the basis of the solution processability, reliefs are fabricated on the surface of PVA/PANI hydrogel electrodes by a template method. The gauge factor (GF) is enhanced by introducing reliefs and regulated by controlling the composition and relief dimension of hydrogel electrodes. The optimized pressure sensor containing reliefs achieves the highest GF of 7.70 kPa-1 and a sensing range of 0-7.4 kPa. Furthermore, the freezing and drying problems of the hydrogel sensors are overcome by introducing a binary solvent of water/glycerol and the pressure sensing ability at -18 °C has been achieved. Finally, monitoring of various pressures in daily life, such as joint bending, blowing, and brush writing, is demonstrated using such pressure sensors.

Abstract
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is proved to be the main pathogenic agent of various diseases, including chronic gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, and gastric cancer. In addition, chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis are common worldwide, which are supposed to increase the total mortality of patients. Epidemiologic evidence on the relationship between H. pylori infection of the gallbladder and chronic cholecystitis/cholelithiasis still remains unclear. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of overall studies to investigate the relationship between H. pylori infection of the gallbladder and chronic cholecystitis/cholelithiasis. Two researchers searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases to obtain all related and eligible studies published before July 2020. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated by the random-effects model. Subgroup analysis, heterogeneity, publication bias, and sensitivity analysis were also conducted. Twenty studies were included in the meta-analysis, involving 1735 participants and 1197 patients with chronic cholecystitis/cholelithiasis. Helicobacter species infection of the gallbladder was positively correlated with increased risk of chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis, especially H. pylori (OR = 3.05; 95% CI, 1.81-5.14; I 2 = 23.5%). Besides, country-based subgroup analysis also showed a positive correlation between the gallbladder H. pylori positivity and chronic cholecystitis/cholelithiasis risk. For Asian and non-Asian country studies, the ORs were 4.30 (95% CI, 1.76-10.50; I 2 = 37.4%) and 2.13 (95% CI, 1.23-3.70; I 2 = 0.0%), respectively. The association was more obvious using the bile sample and urease gene primer. In conclusion, this meta-analysis provided evidence that there is a positive correlation between H. pylori infection in the gallbladder and increased risk of chronic cholecystitis and cholelithiasis.

Abstract
AIMS Sustainable agriculture requires effective and safe biofertilizers and biofungicides with low environmental impact. Natural ecosystems that closely resemble the conditions of biosaline agriculture may present a reservoir for fungal strains that can be used as novel bioeffectors. METHODS AND RESULTS We isolated a library of fungi from the rhizosphere of three natural halotolerant plants grown in the emerging tidal salt marshes on the south-east coast of China. DNA barcoding of 116 isolates based on the rRNA ITS1 and 2 and other markers (tef1 or rpb2) revealed 38 fungal species, including plant pathogenic (41%), saprotrophic (24%) and mycoparasitic (28%) taxa. The mycoparasitic fungi were mainly species from the hypocrealean genus Trichoderma, including at least four novel phylotypes. Two of them, representing the taxa Trichoderma arenarium sp. nov. (described here) and T. asperelloides, showed antagonistic activity against five phytopathogenic fungi, and significant growth promotion on tomato seedlings under the conditions of saline agriculture. CONCLUSIONS Trichoderma spp. of salt marshes play the role of natural biological control in young soil ecosystems with a putatively premature microbiome. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY The saline soil microbiome is a rich source of halotolerant bioeffectors that can be used in biosaline agriculture.

Abstract
The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary addition of capsaicin (CAP) on egg production performance, follicular development, and ovarian antioxidant capacity in laying ducks. Three hundred seventy eight 58-wk-old laying ducks were randomly divided into 3 treatments, each treatment consisted 6 replicates, with 12 individually caged laying ducks per replicate. Ducks fed a basal diet served as control, the other 2 groups of ducks were fed the same diet containing 150 mg/kg CAP but in the manner of feed restriction (pair-fed) or ad libitum fed. The experiment lasted for 8 wk. The results showed that the dietary supplementation with CAP under conditions of ad libitum feeding increased feed intake (P < 0.001) and tended (P < 0.1) to increase egg production and egg weight in laying ducks but had no effects on daily egg mass and feed conversion ratio. The relative weight of large yellow follicles from the 2 CAP-supplemented groups at 64 wk of age were significantly higher than that of the controls (P = 0.01). The relative weight of the small yellow follicles in the CAP free-fed group was significantly higher than that of the other 2 groups (P < 0.01). Capsaicin supplementation under ad libitum feding conditions tended to increase the number of dominant follicles in laying ducks (P = 0.06). The ovarian mRNA expression of genes related to calcium signaling (TRPV4, ATP2A2, ITPR1, and CaM) in the CAP ad libitum fed groups were significantly higher than those of the other 2 groups (P < 0.05). The ovarian mRNA expression of CDK1 in CAP free-fed ducks was significantly higher than that of the other 2 groups (P = 0.01). Capsaicin supplementation significantly increased the plasma glutathione peroxidase activity (P < 0.01) in comparison with the control group but reduced the malondialdehyde content in the ovaries of laying ducks (P < 0.01). The results of this study indicates that dietary supplementation of CAP increased feed intake and improved egg production performance probably by activating calcium signaling pathway and improving redox status.

Abstract
There is a critical need for development of improved methods capable of accurately predicting the RAS (KRAS and NRAS) and BRAF gene mutation status in patients with advanced colorectal cancer (CRC). The purpose of this study was to investigate whether radiomics and/or semantic features could improve the detection accuracy of RAS/BRAF gene mutation status in patients with colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). In this retrospective study, 159 patients who had been diagnosed with CRLM in two hospitals were enrolled. All patients received lung and abdominal contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) scans prior to radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Semantic features were independently assessed by two radiologists. Radiomics features were extracted from the portal venous phase (PVP) of the CT scan for each patient. Seven machine learning algorithms were used to establish three scores based on the semantic, radiomics and the combination of both features. Two semantic and 851 radiomics features were used to predict the mutation status of RAS and BRAF using an artificial neural network method (ANN). This approach performed best out of the seven tested algorithms. We constructed three scores which were based on radiomics, semantic features and the combined scores. The combined score could distinguish between wild-type and mutant patients with an AUC of 0.95 in the primary cohort and 0.79 in the validation cohort. This study proved that the application of radiomics together with semantic features can improve non-invasive assessment of the gene mutation status of RAS (KRAS and NRAS) and BRAF in CRLM.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the tuberculosis (TB) clustering areas and changing tendency in China from 2013 to 2018, so as to provide evidence for improving the control and prevention programs on TB. Methods: Spatial distribution of TB in China from 2013 to 2018 was studied using data from TB information management system of Chinese disease prevention and control information system. The SaTScan 9.6 software was used to detect and analyze the TB clusters and relative risks. Likelihood ratio and P value under the scan windows were used as the main index to define the clusters. Results: The TB registration rate declined in China from 2013 to 2018. High-risk clusters were mainly located in western regions of Xinjiang, Tibet, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi provinces and central and eastern regions of Inner Mongolia, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangdong and Hainan provinces. The number of counties with TB clusters declined slowly, from 1 112 in 2013 to 806 in 2018. In comparison with areas other than the clusters, the RR of TB in the clusters remained at high levels in southern Xinjiang and western Tibet from 2013 to 2018 (RR>3.0). Conclusions: The number of the counties with TB clustering declined slowly from 2013 to 2018, and most of them were located in western and central China. Early detection and health education should be focused on TB patients to prevent the spread of TB. Management programs set for TB patients should be strengthened, especially in the western parts of the country where TB clusters and high relative risks existed.

Exercise stress global longitudinal strain echocardiography can detect subclinical cardiac dysfunction and assist in risk stratification in children with Kawasaki disease: a 3-year follow-up study. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Global longitudinal strain (GLS) echo has been regarded as a sensitive and reproducible indicator for detection of subclinical cardiac dysfunction in children with Kawasaki disease (KD), but whether it can assist in differentiating KD patients with different severity of coronary artery lesions (CALs) has been rarely reported. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of GLS derived from rest and exercise stress echo in risk stratification in patients with KD.
Methods
43 children with KD and 50 healthy controls were enrolled. KDs was divided into 3 groups according to the severity of CALs based on Z score, which was measured at the 3-year follow-up, G1 = KD without CALs (Z<2), G2 = KD with mild CALs (2≤Z<5), G3 = KD with severe CALs (Z≥5). Both group underwent echo at the onset of KD diagnosis and at the 3 years' follow-up, including: diameter of LA and LV, thickness of LVPW and IVS, LVFS, LVEF, and rest GLS (GLSrest). Both group also accomplished the exercise stress echo at the 3 years' follow-up, who squatted quickly to reach target heart rate and stress GLS (GLSstress) was recorded. Patients in G3 underwent a CMR examination, including LGE, to detect myocardial ischemia or infarction.
Results
38 KDs and 50 HCs had normal exercise tolerance. There were 18, 8, and 12 patients in G1, G2, and G3, respectively. LA, LV, LVPW, IVS and LVEF, were not significantly different in the KDs at the onset and 3-year follow-up, and so did that between KDs and HCs (all p>0.05). Both GLSrest and GLSstress in the KDs were significantly decreased compared with HCs (GLSrest: −17.2±9.1% vs. −22.3±0.7%, p<0.01; GLSstress: −20.7±3.5% vs. −27.7±0.7%, p<0.01, seen in Fig.1A, B). However, there were no significant difference in GLSrest among 3 subgroups of KDs (G1: −18.0±10.0%; G2: −19.7±1.2%; G3: 14.4±10.4%; all p>0.05, seen in Fig.1C). GLSstress in the G3 decreased significantly compared with that in G1 and G2 (G3 vs. G1: −16.8±2.6% vs. −22.8±1.9%, p<0.01; G3 vs. G2: −16.8±2.6% vs. −22.1±2.5%, p<0.01, seen in Fig. 1D). GLSrest had no correlation with Z score (r=0.08, p=0.62), but GLSstress correlated well with Z score (r=0.70, p<0.01). 8 of 12 (67%) patients in the G3 underwent CMR and 6 of 8 (75%) were found endomyocardial enhancement on LGE, which indicated myocardial infarction corresponding to the territory of abnormal coronary arteries (seen in Fig. 2).
Conclusions
GLS derived from rest and exercise stress speckle-tracking echo can detect subclinical cardiac dysfunction in KD patients with normal LV systolic function by conventional measurements, but rest GLS could not assist in differentiating KD patients with different severity of CALs. Exercise stress GLS, which correlated well with Z score, has the potential in risk stratification in children with KD, and thus may provide prognostic value in multidisciplinary treatment strategy.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the morphological and microstructural changes of grey and white matter in the patients of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO). METHODS Twenty-five TAO patients and 25 well-matched healthy controls were recruited. Structural T1- and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging data were analyzed using voxel-based morphometry and voxel-based analysis of diffusion tensor imaging. RESULTS Compared with healthy controls, TAO group showed significantly decreased grey matter volume in the brain region of the right middle frontal gyrus. Meanwhile, TAO group showed significantly decreased fractional anisotropy (FA), but increased mean, axial and radial diffusivities in the brain regions of the right superior occipital gyrus, middle occipital gyrus and cuneus in TAO group. In addition, the FA value in significant brain regions showed a positive correlation with visual acuity (r = 0.456, P = 0.025) and a negative correlation with disease duration (r = - 0.609, P = 0.003). CONCLUSION Significant morphological and microstructural abnormalities in areas corresponding to known functional deficits of vision and cognition could be found in TAO patients. These results extended our understanding of neural relationships with TAO.
