Abstract
Objective: To analyze the prognosis of Ⅰb2 and Ⅱa2 cervical squamous cancer without high risk factors treated with neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) and radical hysterectomy. Methods: This retrospective study included patients with International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage Ⅰ b2 and Ⅱ a2 cervical squamous cancer without high risk factors who underwent platinum-based NACT followed by radical surgery from January 2008 to January 2015. The responses of NACT were observed and compared in their effect on postoperative pathologic risk factors. Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis were performed to analyze survival status. Results: This study was recruited 282 patients with the average age of (44.4±6.7) years old. After NACT, 42 patients achieved complete response [CR, 14.9% (42/282) ], while 138 patients achieved partial response [PR, 48.9% (138/282) ] and 102 stable disease [SD, 36.2% (102/282) ]. The rate of pathologic diameter ≥4 cm, deep stromal invasion (DSI) positive and lymph-vascular space invasion (LVSI) positive rate decreased significantly in CR and PR group compared with SD group (P<0.05) . The number of postoperative risk factors in CR, PR and SD groups varied significantly (χ(2)=64.869, P=0.000) . Besides, the rate of multiple intermediate risk factors was respectively 0 vs 13.8% vs 45.1% (χ(2)=7.107, P=0.008) . The disease relapsed in 23 patients, and 12 died. On the whole series, 5-year overall survival rate was 91.7%, and 5-year recurrence-free survival rate was 88.9%. The rate of recurrence (P=0.002) and mortality (P=0.036) were higher in LVSI positive patients compared with LVSI negative. And the rate of recurrence was higher in patients with multiple intermediate risk factors, compared with no or one intermediate risk factors (P=0.002) . Univariate analysis revealed that LVSI positive and multiple intermediate risk factors were the factors predicted recurrence and mortality (P<0.05) , and no significance in age, stage, tumor grade, tumor diameter before or after NACT, response to NACT, or DSI positive factors (all P>0.05) . The multivariate analysis showed that, the factor of primary tumor diameter ≥6 cm (P=0.022) and multiple intermediate risk factors (P=0.001) were independent prognostic variables for recurrent-free survival. Besides, multiple intermediate risk factors was independent prognostic variable for overall survival (P=0.034) . After surgery, 107 patients did not receive adjuvant therapy, while 175 patients received adjuvant therapy with 26 radiotherapy, 46 chemotherapy and 103 concurrent radiochemotherapy. On survival analysis of postoperative adjuvant treatment, 5-year recurrence-free survival rate of radiotherapy group was significantly lower in patients with the factor of SD response to NACT (P=0.011) and multiple intermediate risk factors (P=0.008) , while overall no significance in overall survival rate (P>0.05) . Conclusions: NACT may be play beneficial role in relieving the status of intermediate risk factors for stage Ⅰ b2 and Ⅱ a2 cervical squamous cancer without high risk factors. The status of multiple intermediate risk factors is independent prognostic factors for recurrence and mortality. For patients with multiple intermediate risk factors, postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy or concurrent radiochemotherapy might be the better choice to prevent relapse.

Abstract
The present study was aimed to investigate the electrophysiological characteristics of hippocampal postnatal early development mediated by α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptors in rats. Forty-eight Wistar rats were divided into postnatal 0.5-, 1-, 2- and 3-month groups (n = 12). Spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents (sEPSCs) and field excitatory postsynaptic potentials (fEPSPs) mediated by AMPA receptors were recorded to evaluate the changes in the intrinsic membrane properties of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons by using patch-clamp and MED64 planar microelectrode array technique respectively. The results showed that, during the period of postnatal 0.5-3 months, some of the intrinsic membrane properties of hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons, such as the membrane capacitance (Cm) and the resting membrane potential (RMP), showed no significant changes, while the membrane input resistance (Rin) and the time constant (τ) of the cells were decreased significantly. The amplitude, frequency and kinetics (both rise and decay times) of sEPSCs were significantly increased during the period of postnatal 0.5-1 month, but they were all decreased during the period of postnatal 1-3 months. In addition, the range of evoked fEPSPs in hippocamal CA1 region was significantly expanded, but the fEPSP amplitudes were decreased significantly during the period of postnatal 0.5-3 months. Furthermore, the evoked fEPSPs could be significantly inhibited by extracellular application of the AMPA receptor antagonist 6-cyano-7-nitroquinoxaline-2,3-dione (CNQX). These results suggest that AMPA receptor may act as a major type of excitatory receptor to regulate synaptic transmission and connections during the early stage of hippocampal postnatal development, which promotes the development and functional maturation of hippocampus in rats.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Inflammation has been implicated in the development of cardiovascular disease. We determined whether nod-like receptor with pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) involved in the process of prehypertension, central blockade of NLRP3 decreased inflammation reaction, regulated neurohormonal excitation, and delayed the progression of prehypertension. METHODS Prehypertensive rats were induced by 8% salt diet. The rats on high-salt diet for 1 month were administered a specific NLRP3 blocker in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) for 4 weeks. ELISA, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry were used to measure NLRP3 cascade proteins, pro-inflammation cytokines (PICs), chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), C-X-C chemokine receptor type 3 (CXCR3), vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), neurotransmitters, and leukocytes count detection, respectively. RESULTS NLRP3 expression in PVN was increased significantly in prehypertensive rats, accompanied by increased number of microglia, CD4+, CD8+ T cell, and CD8+ microglia. Expressions of PICs, CCL2, CXCR3, and VCAM-1 significantly increased. The balance between 67-kDa isoform of glutamate decarboxylase (GAD67) and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) was damaged. Plasma norepinephrine (NE) in prehypertensive rats was increased and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) was reduced. NLRP3 blockade significantly decreased blood pressure, reduced PICs, CCL2, VCAM-1 expression in PVN, and restored neurotransmitters. Blood pressure and inflammatory markers were upregulated after termination of central blockage NLRP3. CONCLUSIONS Salt-induced prehypertension is partly due to the role of NLRP3 in PVN. Blockade of brain NLRP3 attenuates prehypertensive response, possibly via downregulating the cascade reaction triggered by inflammation and restoring the balance of neurotransmitters.

Abstract
CONTEXT Acute hepatic failure involves in serious inflammatory responses and leads to a high mortality. Magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate (MgIG), a magnesium salt of 18-α glycyrrhizic acid (GA) stereoisomer, has been shown anti-inflammatory activity previously. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of MgIG, a hepatocyte protective agent, on D-galactosamine and lipopolysaccharide (D-GaIN/LPS)-induced acute liver injury in rats, and meanwhile explore the molecular mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were injected with D-GaIN/LPS (800 mg/kgBW/10 μg/kgBW) with or without administration of MgIG (225 mg/kg once 6 h after D-GaIN/LPS injection and MgIG 45 mg/kg twice in another 12 h, intraperitoneal injection). Rats were sacrificed 24 h after D-GaIN/LPS injection, the blood and liver samples were collected for future inflammation and hepatotoxicity analyses. RESULTS MgIG significantly inhibited D-GaIN/LPS-induced inflammatory cytokines production and hepatotoxicity as indicated by both diagnostic indicators of liver damage [aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels] and histopathological analysis. Western blot analysis demonstrated that MgIG significantly decreased p38-mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activation induced by D-GaIN/LPS. CONCLUSION The results indicated that the protective effects of MgIG on D-GaIN/LPS-induced acute liver injury might be correlated with its capacity to regulate the p38-MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways.

Abstract
Spontaneous exchange bias (SEB) under zero field cooling (ZFC) has recently attracted lots of attention due to its underlying physics and potential applications. Here we report the giant SEB (GSEB) of SmFeO3 single crystals by tuning magnetic compensation by temperature, which is rather convenient. A SEB field of up to 1 T at 3.9 K after ZFC (-1.4 T at 3.9 K after field cooling) was obtained. The SEB shows reciprocal relationship with remnant magnetization.

Abstract
PURPOSE Adequate evaluation of spinal cord parenchyma and accurate identification of injury range are considered two premises for the research and treatment of chronic spinal cord injury (SCI). Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) provides information about water diffusion in spinal cord, and thus makes it possible to realize these premises. METHOD In this study, we conducted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for Wistar rats 84days after spinal cord contusion. DTI metrics including fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), axial diffusivity (AD), and radial diffusivity (RD) from different positions of the injured cord were collected, analyzed, and compared with the histological results and locomotor outcomes. Moreover, we performed fiber tractography, and examined the difference in cavity percentage obtained respectively via conventional MRI, DTI and histology. RESULTS Results showed that the chronic SCI rats had the largest changes of all DTI metrics at the epicenter; the farther away from the epicenter, the smaller the variation. FA, AD and RD were all influenced by SCI in a greater space range than MD. The good consistency of FA values and histological results in specific regions evidenced FA's capability of reflecting Wallerian degeneration after SCI. DTI metrics at the epicenter in ventral funiculus also showed a close correlation with the BBB scores. Additionally, supported by the histological results, DTI enables a more accurate measurement of cavity percentage compared to the conventional MRI. CONCLUSION DTI parameters might comprehensively reflect the post-SCI pathological status of spinal cord parenchyma at the epicenter and distal parts during the chronic stage, while showing good consistency with locomotor performance. DTI combined with tractography could intuitively display the distribution of spared fibers after SCI and accurately provide information such as cavity area. This may shed light on the research and treatment of chronic SCI.

Abstract
PURPOSE To analyze the clinical features, histopathological features, treatment and prognosis of carcinosarcoma in oromaxillofacial head and neck region. METHODS The clinical and histopathological data of 10 cases with carcinosarama were collected from database of Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital and further analyzed. RESULTS A total of 10 cases (8 males and 2 females) of carcinosarcoma were collected and analyzed. The age of patients ranged from 20 to 81 years (mean: 44, median:45.5). The tumor size was related to the primary site. The main clinical manifestations indicated rapid increase of foreign body sensation or mass, even feeling of pain. Pathologic examination confirmed the presence of carcinoma and sarcomatoid stroma. Carcinosarcoma had low incidence and was easily misdiagnosed. Diagnosis depended on pathologic examination especially immunohistochemistry. The prognosis was poor, and 5 year survival rate was 50%. CONCLUSIONS Diagnosis to carcinosarcoma depends on pathological examination after operation. Complete resection + free flap transplantation + postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy are conventional treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE The understanding of microstructural and metabolic changes in the post-traumatic brain injury is the key to brain damage suppression and repair in clinics. METHODS Ten female Wistar rats were traumatically injured in the brain CA1 region and above the cortex. Next, diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DTI) and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) were used to analyze the microstructural and metabolic changes in the brain within the following 2 weeks. RESULTS Anisotropy fraction (FA) and axial diffusivity (AD) of the corpus callosum (CC) began to decrease significantly at day 1, whereas radial diffusivity (RD) significantly increased immediately after injury, reflecting the loss of white matter integrity. Compared with day 3, RD decreased significantly at day 7, implicating the angioedema reduction. In the hippocampus, FA significantly increased at day 7; the choline-containing compounds (Cho) and myo-inositol (MI) remarkably increased at day 7 compared with those at day 3, indicating the proliferation of astrocytes and radial glial cells after day 7. No significant differences between DTI and 1H MRS parameters were observed between day 1 and day 3. CONCLUSION Day 1-3 after traumatic brain injury (TBI) may serve as a relatively appropriate time window for treatment planning and the following nerve repair.

Abstract
Background Abernethy malformation is a rare congenital anomaly characterised by the partial or complete absence of the portal vein and the subsequent development of an extrahepatic portosystemic shunt. Caroli’s disease is a rare congenital condition characterised by non-obstructive saccular intrahepatic bile duct dilation. Caroli’s disease combined with congenital hepatic fibrosis and/or renal cystic disease is referred to - Caroli’s syndrome. The combination of Abernethy malformation and Caroli’s syndrome has not been reported previously. Case presentation We present the case of a 23-year-old female who was found to have both type II Abernethy malformation and Caroli’s syndrome. Radiological imaging was performed, including computed tomography with three-dimensional reconstruction and magnetic resonance imaging with (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), which revealed a side-to-side portocaval shunt, intrahepatic bile duct dilation, congenital hepatic fibrosis, and renal cysts. In addition, PKHD1 (polycystic kidney and hepatic disease 1) gene mutational analysis revealed a paternally inherited heterozygous missense mutation (c.1877A > G, p.Lys626Arg). A liver biopsy confirmed the pathological features of Caroli’s syndrome. Conclusions To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a patient with both type II Abernethy malformation and Caroli’s syndrome diagnosed using a comprehensive approach that included imaging, mutational analysis, and liver biopsy. Additionally, this is the second reported case to date of an Asian patient presenting with liver and renal disorders with the same paternally inherited PKHD1 missense mutation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Ketamine is a well-known anesthetic. 'Recreational' use of ketamine common induces psychosis-like symptoms and cognitive impairments. The acute and chronic effects of ketamine on relevant brain circuits have been studied, but the effects of single-dose ketamine administration on the local resting-state functional properties of the brain remain unknown. In this study, we aimed to assess the effects of single-dose ketamine administration on the brain local intrinsic properties. METHODS We used resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) to explore the ketamine-induced alterations of brain intrinsic properties. Seven adult rhesus monkeys were imaged with rs-fMRI to examine the fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (fALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) in the brain before and after ketamine injection. Paired comparisons were used to detect the significantly altered regions. RESULTS Results showed that the fALFF of the prefrontal cortex (p=0.046), caudate nucleus (left side, p=0.018; right side, p=0.025), and putamen (p=0.020) in post-injection stage significantly increased compared with those in pre-injection period. The ReHo of nucleus accumbens (p=0.049), caudate nucleus (p=0.037), and hippocampus (p=0.025) increased after ketamine injection, but that of prefrontal cortex decreased (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS These findings demonstrated that single-dose ketamine administration can change the regional intensity and synchronism of brain activity, thereby providing evidence of ketamine-induced abnormal resting-state functional properties in primates. This evidence may help further elucidate the effects of ketamine on the cerebral resting status.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Spinal cord injury (SCI) causes loss of locomotor functions. Nowadays, the relationship between the residual locomotion after SCI and the diffusion tensor tractography (DTT) results still remains unclear. METHODS Four rhesus monkeys were suffered thoracic cord hemisection. Kinematic evaluation and DTT were performed prior- and post-SCI (6 and 12 weeks). The longitudinal changes of gait parameters and the DTT parameters were analyzed for the injury-contralateral hindlimb. The correlations between gaits and DTT parameters were also investigated. RESULTS Almost gait parameters significantly changed after SCI, meanwhile, the caudal-rostral connection rate of DTT showed negative correlation with all gait parameters, demonstrating that the locomotor changes of the injury-contralateral hindlimb were associated with the ratio of residual fibers. CONCLUSIONS The combinatory use of gait analysis and DTT has been demonstrated to be sensitive to locomotion changes after SCI, and may therefore have potential applications in the pre-clinical studies of SCI.

Abstract
Objective: To study the efficacy of surgery for recurrent cervical cancer and the influencing factors on prognosis. Methods: To retrospectively analyze the clinical data of 45 patients with recurrent cervical cancer undergoing surgical treatment in our hospital from January 1980 to October 2015, and study their clinical features and prognosis. Results: The Recurrence Free Interval (RFI) of these 45 patients was 3~120 months, and their median RFI was 15 months. Of the 45 cases, 21 recurred inside the radiotherapy field, including 18 with central recurrence and 3 with non-central recurrence; and 24 recurred outside the radiotherapy field, including 16 with pelvic recurrence who did not receive radiotherapy and 8 with distant recurrence. The overall survival time after recurrence of these 45 cases was (39.1±1.0) months, and their 2-year and 5-year survival rates were 55.6% and 22.2%, respectively. The univariate analysis showed that clinical stage, RFI, recurrent site, and initial treatment method affected the survival rate of the patients with recurrent cervical cancer (P<0.05), while the multivariate analysis revealed that recurrent site was an independent prognostic factor for recurrent cervical cancer (P=0.047). Conclusions: Appropriate surgery should be chosen for recurrent cervical cancer according to initial treatment and recurrent site. For patients with central recurrence inside their radiotherapy field, surgery is an effective treatment. Surgery is also suitable for patients without previous radiotherapy and with isolated recurrence, and adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy can improve their survival.

Abstract
Background The impairment of histone acetylation is causally linked to the cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In addition to histone acetyltransferases (HATs) and histone deacetylases (HDACs), inhibitor of acetyltransferases (INHAT) can also regulate histone acetylation. As a key component of INHAT, level of ANP32A is selectively upregulated in the brain of AD patients. Here we investigated whether downregulating ANP32A can rescue AD-like synapse and memory deficits. Methods RFP-labeled lentiviral ANP32A-shRNA was infused stereotaxically into the hippocampal CA3 region of the human tau transgenic mice (termed htau). The spatial learning and memory were assessed by Morris water maze (MWM). The synaptic function was measured by electrophysiological recording and the spine density was detected by Golgi staining. RT-PCR and Western blotting were used to detect the mRNA and protein levels. Results Elevation of ANP32 in htau transgenic mice was correlated with learning deficits, while the hippocampal infusion of lenti-siANP32A to downregulate ANP32A in 12 m-old htau mice could rescue memory loss. Further studies demonstrated that downregulating ANP32A restored synapse morphology and the function. In the brain of htau mice, the acetylated histone decreased while knockdown ANP32A unmasked histone for a robust acetylation with reduced INHAT complex formation. Downregulating of ANP32A also attenuated AD-like tau hyperphosphorylation. Finally, several AD-associated risk factors, including tau accumulation, β-amyloid and H2O2 exposure, increased ANP32A by activating CCAAT/enhancer binding protein-β (C/EBPβ). Conclusion We conclude that downregulating ANP32A rescues synaptic plasticity and memory ability by reducing INHAT formation and unmasking histone for hyperacetylation. Our findings reveal novel mechanisms for AD memory loss and potential molecular markers for protection. Abstract
Aging is a cause of cognitive decline in the elderly and the major risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, however, aging people are not all destined to develop into cognitive deficits, the molecular mechanisms underlying this difference in cognition of aging people are obscure. Epigenetic modifications, particularly histone acetylation in the nervous system, play a critical role in regulation of gene expression for learning and memory. An inhibitor of acetyltransferases (INHAT) is reported to suppress histone acetylation via a histone-masking mechanism, and pp32 is a key component of INHAT complex. In the present study, we divided ~18 m-old aged mice into the cognitive-normal and the cognitive-impaired group by Morris water maze, and found that pp32 level was significantly increased in the hippocampus of cognitive-impaired aged mice. The mRNA and protein levels of synaptic-associated proteins decreased with reduced dendrite complexity and histone acetylation. Knockdown of pp32 rescued cognitive decline in cognitive-impaired aged mice with restoration of synaptic-associated proteins, the increase of spine density and elevation of histone acetylation. Our study reveals a novel mechanism underlying the aging-associated cognitive disturbance, indicating that suppression of pp32 might represent a promising therapeutic approach for learning and memory impairments.

Abstract
The epithelium is a highly dynamic system, which plays a crucial role in the homeostasis of the intestinal tract. However, studies on the physiological and pathophysiological functions of intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) have been hampered due to lack of normal epithelial cell models. In the present study, we established a reproducible method for primary culture of mouse IECs, which were isolated from the viable small intestinal crypts of murine fetuses (on embryonic day 19), using type I collagenase and hyaluronidase in a short span of time (≤20 min). With this method, continuously growing mouse IECs, which can be subcultured over a number of passages, were obtained. The obtained cell lines formed a tight cobblestone-like arrangement, displayed long and slender microvilli, expressed characteristic markers (cytokeratin 18 and Notch-1), and generated increasing transepithelial electrical resistance and low paracellular permeability during in vitro culture. The cells also had enzymatic activities of alkaline phosphatase and sucrase-isomaltase, and secreted various cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1), responding to the stimulation of Escherichia coli. These results show that the primary-cultured mouse IECs obtained by the method established here had the morphological and immunological characteristics of IECs. This culture system can be a beneficial in vitro model for studies on mucosal immunology and toxicology.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the application of hybrid technique for the treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (CAVMs) and to assess the value of hybrid technique. Methods: The cases of CAVMs treated in Qilu hospital and People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from July 2011 to July 2016 were analyzed retrospectively.Two modes of hybrid surgery, "angiographic diagnosis-craniotomy lesion resection or/and hematoma clearance-intraoperative angiography evaluation" and "angiographic diagnosis-intraoperative embolization-craniotomy lesion resection or/and hematoma clearance-intraoperative angiography evaluation" were applied for all the cases.We placed an aneurysm clip as marker in surgery field during real-time angiography.If CAVMs residues occurred during surgery, we re-resected the residue according to the guidance of the marker (clip) and DSA imaging. Intra-operative angiography evaluated the results of CAVMs resection one more time.Postoperatively, follow-up CT scan was performed for all the patients. Results: Of all the cases with CAVMs, there were 8 cases of scale Ⅰ, 13 cases of scale Ⅱ, 10 cases of scale Ⅲ and 6 cases of scale Ⅳ according to Spetzler-Martin Scale.There were 28 cases of acute hemorrhagic CAVMs and 9 cases of chronic hemorrhagic CAVMs or no-hemorrhagic CAVMs.Intra-operative angiography showed CAVMs residues in 6 cases of acute hemorrhagic CAVMs and only one in chronic group.About 18.92% residual rate of CAVMs were found for the first time intra-operative assessment angiography.With the guidance of intra-operative angiography and aneurysm clip as Marker, all residues of CAVMs were resected totally.Follow up CT showed the hematomas disappeared in all the cases of acute hemorrhagic cases.The cure rate of CAVMs with hybrid surgery was 100% according to the final intra-operative assessment angiography. Conclusions: (1)Hybrid surgery for the treatment of CAVMs in one session could evaluate the results of CAVMs resection and instruct the surgical procedure according to real-time angiography.This model could improve the treatment safety and efficacy for patients with CAVMs.(2)Patients with higher Spetzler-Martin Scale (Ⅲ-Ⅳ) who need intra-operative embolization and patients with hemorrhagic CAVMs are more suitable for hybrid surgery.

Abstract
Galectin-7 is a member of the β-galactoside-binding protein family, and is highly expressed in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of manipulating galectin-7 expression on the biological phenotype of human OSCC cells and the associated molecular mechanisms. Knockdown of endogenous galectin-7 via small interfering RNA (siRNA) was performed and cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion were subsequently assessed. The data indicated that galectin-7 silencing had no impact on the proliferation or apoptosis of OSCC cells. However, compared with non-transfected cells, percentage wound closure was significantly lower in galectin-7-silenced cells following 24 h incubation, indicating decreased cell migration. Furthermore, Matrigel invasion assays demonstrated that galectin-7 knockdown significantly reduced the number of invaded cells, compared with the number in non-transfected cells. Western blot analysis indicated that galectin-7 overexpression resulted in a significant increase in the expression of the proteins matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9. The invasive abilities of cells overexpressing galectin-7 significantly decreased following co-transfection with MMP-2- or MMP-9-specific siRNA. Increasing galectin-7 expression significantly enhanced the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-related kinase (ERK) 1/2 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) 1/2. Pharmacological inhibition of ERK or JNK activity significantly suppressed the invasiveness of galectin-7-overexpressing cells and abrogated the upregulation of MMP-2 and MMP-9. Taken together, the results of the current study provide novel evidence for the pro-invasive activity of galectin-7 in OSCC cells, which is associated with activation of ERK and JNK signaling and the induction of MMP-2 and MMP-9.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to identify different barriers to healthcare access for international students in China. The study employed a cross sectional descriptive study using both qualitative and quantitative method. A representative sample of international students of a reputed university in China completed a mail back survey having a response rate of 7.5%. Identified barriers are classified as Cognitive, Financial and Structural barriers. One third (36.9%) international students perceived their health condition in China as bad in comparison with their home countries. More than two third of the students did not know their health insurance coverage. Around 71% students agreed that language was a barrier to health care access in China and majority of them think that interpreter service should be available at hospitals. To improve healthcare access - formal interpreter services, translated materials, reconsideration of health insurance should be taken into account. As per our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate healthcare access barriers for international students in China. Further large scale study should be undertaken.

Abstract
We report the epitaxial growth of oxygen deficient titanium dioxide thin films on 0.7Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.3PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) single crystals and realized highly effective in situ electrostatic manipulation of electrotransport and magnetism of TiO2-δ films via gate voltages. Upon the polarization switching in the PMN-PT, the carrier density of the TiO2-δ film could be reversibly modified, resulting in a large nonvolatile resistivity modulation by ∼51% at T = 300 K, approximately 4-12 times larger than that of other transition-metal oxide film/PMN-PT structures. By taking advantage of in situ manipulation of the carrier density via gate voltages, we found that competition between the trap of electrons by the Ti3+-VO pairs and that by the positive polarization charges at the interface results in a significant resistivity relaxation upon the polarization switching, and revealed that magnetization is inversely correlated with the carrier density of the TiO2-δ film. Such hybrid structures combining materials with dissimilar functionalities may have potential applications in multifunctional devices which can take advantage of the useful and unique properties of both materials.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the safety and clinical efficacy of partial nephrectomy for solitary kidney tumor. Methods: Twenty patients with a functional or anatomic solitary kidney who underwent nephron-sparing surgery for one or more renal masses were retrospectively analyzed. There were 15 male and 5 female patients with mean age of 63 years.Patients were divided into open partial nephrectomy(OPN) group and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy(LPN) group, the two groups were followed up.Demographic and clinical characteristics were analyzed using student t-test for continuous variables, and the χ2 test for categorical variables. Results: There were 21 tumors whose maximum diameter were 1.5 to 6.0 cm, the mean size was (3.7±1.3)cm, mean operative time was (205.3±81.8)minutes, and median estimated blood loss was 385.6 ml.Five cases accepted blood transfusion intro-operation, 1 case appeared leakage of urine post-operation, none had obvious fever.Eighteen cases were clear cell carcinoma, 2 cases were chromophobe renal carcinoma, 1 case was papillary renal cell carcinoma.Seventeen cases were T1aNxM0, 3 cases were T1bNxM0, 1 case was T3NxM0.One case lost to follow up, the others had completed a mean follow-up of 21.5 months (ranging from 1 to 53 months). One case recurred, no one had metastasis, all patients were alive.The hemoglobin ((114.9±19.6)g/L) and estimated glomerular filtration rate(eGFR) ((46.5±18.2) ml/min) of postoperative day were lesser than pre-operation ((130.7±18.8)g/L, (58.0±16.4) ml/min), while the serum creatinine was higher ((123.8±39.8) μmol/L vs.(90.9±33.2) μmol/L). Three months after operation, hemoglobin, serum creatinine and eGFR had no difference with pre-operative.Compared with OPN group, LPN group gain less blood loss (306 ml vs.510 ml)(t=-2.38, P=0.03), had shorter length of stays (15 d vs.21 d)(t=-3.34, P=0.04), had longer time of renal artery clamping (25.8 min vs.16.5 min)(t=2.60, P=0.02). Conclusions: Partial nephrectomy is secure and effective selection for solitary kidney tumor.The LPN has less trauma, gain less blood loss, recover faster and has shorter length of stays than the OPN, which needs shorter ischaemic time.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the sealing ability of three different lengths of root canal fillings after post space and two different obturation techniques by using a glucose leakage test, and provide theoretical basis for clinical selection of best collocation of root canal filling methods and residual root canal filling materials. METHODS One hundred and thirty-two extracted single-root teeth were randomly divided into 6 experimental groups(n=20 each), positive(n=6)and negative controls(n=6). After root canal preparation, different treatments were performed in different groups. Group A: lateral compaction and 4 mm length of root canal fillings after post space. Group B: lateral compaction and 6 mm length of root canal fillings after post space. Group C: lateral compaction and 8 mm length of root canal fillings after post space. Group D: warm gutta vertical compaction and 4 mm length of root canal fillings after post space. Group E: warm gutta vertical compaction and 6 mm length of root canal fillings after post space. Group F: warm gutta vertical compaction and 8 mm length of root canal fillings after post space. Group G: random root canal filling. Group H: no root canal filling. A glucose leakage model was used for quantitative evaluation of the coronal to apical microleakage. SPSS 19.0 software package was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS Lateral compaction showed significantly more leakage than warm gutta vertical compaction at all observation times, regardless of the length of the root canal fillings. The shorter the length of root canal fillings after post space, the worse the effect of the apical sealing for the same filling method. There was significant difference between 4 mm and 6 mm (P<0.05), but no significant difference between 8 mm and 6 mm (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Warm vertical compaction shows a better sealing result than cold lateral compaction of gutta-percha. The shorter the length of root canal fillings after post space, the worse the effect of the apical sealing. 6 mm may be the proper residual root filling material length after post space preparation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The primate model of bipedal locomotion has been extensively used to study human evolution and played a critical role in exploring the pathological mechanisms of human neurologic disease and spinal cord injury. Speed has great influence on both walking posture and gait parameters in human walking; however, how speed changes the gait pattern of bipedal locomotion in primates remains unclear. METHODS We chose six adult female rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) and collected the gait parameters of these animals during their treadmill locomotion over a wide range of speed. Using a 3D motion analysis system, we studied the spatiotemporal characteristics of the gait pattern. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS We have built an efficient and time-saving primate model and shown that speed significantly impacts kinematic parameters. This may present a thorough description of speed-related changes in the gait pattern of rhesus and shed light on the control of bipedal locomotion in primates.

Abstract
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease caused by progressive loss of motor neurons in the motor cortex, brainstem, and spinal cord. Over 60% of patients die from respiratory failure within three years of presentation. We report two ALS patients carrying the p.H46R missense mutation in the SOD1 gene presented with a characteristic clinical phenotype of very slow progression. We also reviewed the 13 pedigrees harbouring the p.H46R mutation reported previously. SOD1 p.H46R mutation is consistently associated with a specific phenotype, i.e. lower limb onset with rare bulbar involvement, and a slow progression with longer survival. It is important to recognize the typical clinical picture of the SOD1 p.H46R mutation, and SOD1 sequencing may be necessary to give the patient correct diagnosis and prognosis.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the expression of p53 up-regulated modulator of apoptosis (PUMA) gene in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma (SACC) and its clinical significance. METHODS The expressions of PUMA gene and protein were detected in 27 SACC tumor-adjacent tissues (group A) and 27 SACC tumor tissues (group B) with real-time quantitative PCR and Western blot. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 19.0 software package. RESULTS The expression of PUMA gene in groups A as calibrator was 1,and expression of PUMA gene in group B was 0.57±0.17. The expression of PUMA protein in groups A and B were 0.94±0.12 and 0.36±0.12,respectively. The expressions of PUMA gene and protein were significantly lower in group B than in group A (P<0.05).
