Abstract
The CH3I structural deformation induced by strong laser fields is revealed by time- and frequency-resolved ro-vibrational spectra. The experimental results show that the CH3I molecule undergoes ultrafast structural deformation of CH3 "umbrella-closing" induced by the strong fs laser field (more than 10(11) W/cm(2)) and followed by a structural relaxation of "umbrella-opening" within an exponential decay time scale of ∼620 fs. This study provides a first glimpse of the immense potential of the time- and frequency-resolved vibrational spectra in studying molecular deformation dynamics.

Abstract
Eddy currents have an important effect on tokamak plasma equilibrium and control of magneto hydrodynamic activity. The vacuum vessel of the Sino-UNIted Spherical Tokamak is separated into two hemispherical sections by a toroidal insulating barrier. Consequently, the characteristics of eddy currents are more complex than those found in a standard tokamak. Thus, it is necessary to measure and analyze the eddy-current distribution. In this study, we propose an experimental method for measuring the eddy-current distribution in a vacuum vessel. By placing a flexible printed circuit board with magnetic probes onto the external surface of the vacuum vessel to measure the magnetic field parallel to the surface and then subtracting the magnetic field generated by the vertical-field coils, the magnetic field due to the eddy current can be obtained, and its distribution can be determined. We successfully applied this method to the Sino-UNIted Spherical Tokamak, and thus, we obtained the eddy-current distribution despite the presence of the magnetic field generated by the external coils.

Abstract
In general, the phospholipase C (PLC) signaling pathway is involved in many physiological activities, including cell growth. However, little is known regarding how the PLC signaling pathway participates in regulating hepatocyte (HC) growth during liver regeneration (LR). To further explore the influence of the PLC signaling pathway on HCs at the cellular level, HCs of high purity and vitality were isolated using Percoll density-gradient centrifugation after partial hepatectomy. The genes of the PLC signaling pathway and target genes of transcription factors in the pathway were obtained by searching the pathways and transcription factor databases, and changes in gene expression of isolated HCs were examined using the Rat Genome 230 2.0 Microarray. The results suggested that various genes involved in the pathway (including 151 known genes and 39 homologous genes) and cell growth (including 262 known genes and 37 homologous genes) were associated with LR. Subsequently, the synergetic effect of these genes in LR was analyzed using a mathematical model (Et) according to their expression profiles. The results showed that the Et values of G protein-coupled receptor/PLC, integrin/PLC, and growth factor receptor/PLC branches of the PLC pathway were all significantly strengthened during the progression and termination phases of LR. The synergetic effect of target genes, in parallel with target gene-related cell growth, was also enhanced during whole rat LR, suggesting the potential positive effect of PLC on HC growth. The present data indicate that the PLC signaling pathway may promote HC growth through 3 mechanisms during rat LR after partial hepatectomy.

Abstract
AIM: To explore whether Taohong Qizhu Ruangan Jian (TQRJ) reverses epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the underlying mechanism.
METHODS: HepG2 cells were divided into seven groups: a blank group, an EMT group, low-, medium- and high-dose TQRJ groups, a Fuzheng Huayu recipe group (FZHY group), and a colchicine group (QSXJ group). Immunofluorescence and Western blot were used to detect the expression of E-cadherin, Vimentin, Smad2, and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) R1. The levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), and alpha fetoprotein (AFP) in cell supernatants were also determined.
RESULTS: AFP concentration significantly decreased after 3 d in the EMT group (P < 0.05). After drug intervention, ALT and AST levels decreased significantly compared with the EMT group (P < 0.05). ALT levels were significantly lower in the low- and medium-dose TQRJ groups than in the FZHY and QSXJ groups (P < 0.05), and AST levels were significantly lower in the medium- and high-dose TQRJ groups than in the FZHY and QSXJ groups (P < 0.05). TQRJ could improve EMT, especially in the medium- and high-dose TQRJ groups. TQRJ could increase E-cadherin expression and reduce the expression of Smad2, TGF-β R1 and Vimentin.
CONCLUSION: TQRJ can reverse EMT possibly via the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway and thus may has anti-liver fibrotic effects.

Abstract
Little is known about the epidemiology of metabolic syndrome in urban areas of China. To estimate the prevalence of MetS and identify its cardiovascular-related factors in men and women, a representative sample of 15,477 urban adults aged 18-74 years in Northeast China was selected from 2009 to 2010. The diagnosis of metabolic syndrome was based on criteria set by the National Cholesterol Education Program/Adult Treatment Panel. The overall prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 27.4% (men 27.9% and women 26.8%). Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that a higher education level and a higher family income were associated with a higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome in men, but associated with lower prevalence of metabolic syndrome among women. Higher physical activity was associated with a decreased prevalence of metabolic syndrome in men (adjusted odds ratios (aORs) = 0.88, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.79-0.99), but associated with an increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome in women (aOR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.00-1.29). Compared with rice as the major staple food, cooked wheaten foods were associated with lower adjusted odds for metabolic syndrome both in men (aOR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.58-0.90) and in women (aOR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.56-0.92). In conclusion, metabolic syndrome is highly prevalent in urban areas of China, and there is heterogeneity by sex in the relationships between risk factors and metabolic syndrome prevalence.

Abstract
A quantitative interpretation of the experimentally measured high-pressure plasma response to externally applied three-dimensional (3D) magnetic field perturbations, across the no-wall Troyon β limit, is achieved. The self-consistent inclusion of the drift kinetic effects in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) modeling [Y. Q. Liu et al., Phys. Plasmas 15, 112503 (2008)] successfully resolves an outstanding issue of the ideal MHD model, which significantly overpredicts the plasma-induced field amplification near the no-wall limit, as compared to experiments. The model leads to quantitative agreement not only for the measured field amplitude and toroidal phase but also for the measured internal 3D displacement of the plasma. The results can be important to the prediction of the reliable plasma behavior in advanced fusion devices, such as ITER [K. Ikeda, Nucl. Fusion 47, S1 (2007)].

Abstract
Flowering time and seed size are traits related to domestication. However, identification of domestication-related loci/genes of controlling the traits in soybean is rarely reported. In this study, we identified a total of 48 domestication-related loci based on RAD-seq genotyping of a natural population comprising 286 accessions. Among these, four on chromosome 12 and additional two on chromosomes 11 and 15 were associated with flowering time, and four on chromosomes 11 and 16 were associated with seed size. Of the five genes associated with flowering time and the three genes associated with seed size, three genes Glyma11g18720, Glyma11g15480 and Glyma15g35080 were homologous to Arabidopsis genes, additional five genes were found for the first time to be associated with these two traits. Glyma11g18720 and Glyma05g28130 were co-expressed with five genes homologous to flowering time genes in Arabidopsis, and Glyma11g15480 was co-expressed with 24 genes homologous to seed development genes in Arabidopsis. This study indicates that integration of population divergence analysis, genome-wide association study and expression analysis is an efficient approach to identify candidate domestication-related genes.

Abstract
Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A2 (EIF5A2) plays an important role in tumor progression and prognosis evaluation. However, little information is available about its potential role in gastric cancer. This study aimed to investigate the function of EIF5A2 in tumor progression and its potential mechanisms. EIF5A2 expression was measured in human gastric cancer cell lines, the immortalized gastric mucosal epithelial cell line (GES-1) and human gastric cancer tissues and knocked down by RNA interference or upregulated by EIF5A2 plasmid transfection. Cell proliferation, migration and invasion were assessed in vitro. The downstream targets of EIF5A2 were examined by western blotting. EIF5A2 and its potential target metastasis-associated protein 1 (MTA1) expression were examined in 160 pairs of human gastric cancer and adjacent non-tumor specimens using immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining, and its correlation with clinicopathological features and survival was investigated. Knockdown of EIF5A2 or MTA1 caused an apparent suppression of HGC27 cell proliferation, migration and invasion. After knockdown of EIF5A2 in HGC27 cells, E-cadherin levels were upregulated and vimentin, cyclin D1, cyclin D3, C-MYC and MTA1 levels were downregulated. Upregulation of EIF5A2 in MKN45 cells resulted in the converse. IHC results showed a positive correlation between EIF5A2 and MTA1 expression in gastric cancers (P<0.001). Both EIF5A2 and MTA1 overexpression were correlated with pT stage (P=0.018 and P=0.042), pN stage (P=0.037 and P=0.020) and lymphovascular invasion (P=0.016 and P=0.044). EIF5A2 or MTA1 overexpression was significantly associated with poor overall survival and disease-free survival (All P<0.05). Multivariate analyses identified EIF5A2 as an independent predictor for both overall survival (P=0.012) and disease-free survival (P=0.008) in gastric cancer patients. Our findings indicate that EIF5A2 upregulation plays an important oncogenic role in gastric cancer. EIF5A2 may represent a new predictor for poor survival and is a potential therapeutic target for gastric cancer.

Abstract
Joint detection of anti-dsDNA antibodies, anti-U1RNP, anti-SM antibodies, anti-SSA antibodies, anti-ribosomal P protein antibodies, anti-nucleosome antivodies (Anua), anti-histone antibodies (AHA) and antinuclear antibodies brings to the early diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and speculation of renal lesion degree of lupus nephritis patients in order to choose a specific therapeutic schedule. This paper analyzed the abnormal immunology features and connections of each pathological pattern of LN renal biopsy and probed into the essence in order to provide basis for diagnosis, treatment, pathological pattern speculation and forward assessment of LN. We chose 97 cases, treated them with renal biopsy and pathological pattern classification, analyzed pathological pattern distribution, different pathological patterns and the correlation of immunity index with anti-dsDNA antibodies, anti-U1RNP, anti-Sm antibodies, anti-SSA antibodies, anti-ribosomal P protein antibodies, Anua, AHA and ANA of the first renal biopsy were taken as the experiment index. The results showed that the morbidity of the male was distinctly lower than the female and the age of onset was much lower (P < 0.05); pattern I, pattern II, pattern III, pattern IV, pattern V, and pattern VI accounted for 1.0%, 3.1%, 12.4%, 47.4%,16.5%, 15.5%, 4.1%, 0%,respectively; among all the LN patients, there were respectively 59, 43, 28, 52, 51, 48, 36 and 93 cases in which anti-dsDNA antibody, anti-U1RNP antibody, anti-Sm antibody, anti-SSA antibody, anti-ribosomal P protein antibodies, Anua, AHA and ANA had increased and the positive rate was 60.8%, 44.3%, 28.9%, 53.6%, 52.6%, 49.5%, 37.1% and 95.9%, respectively. In conclusion, pattern IV is the most common of all pathological patterns of LN. Among the immunity index, anti- U1RNP antibodies and anti-SSA antibodies are positively correlated with anti-dsDNA antibodies; Anua is positively correlated with anti-dsDNA antibodies and AHA; anti-dsDNA antibodies, anti U1RNP antibodies, anti-Sm antibodies, anti SSA antibodies, AHA, anti-ribosomal P protein antibodies and ANA have no obvious correlation with LN renal lesions degree; Anua level of serum is positively correlated with LN renal lesions degree.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both the levels and patterns of outdoor and indoor air pollutants have changed dramatically during the last decade in China. However, few studies have evaluated the effects of the present air pollution on the health of Chinese children. This study examines the association between outdoor and indoor air pollution and respiratory diseases among children living in Liaoning, a heavy industrial province of China. METHODS A cross-sectional study of 23,326 Chinese children aged 6 to 13 years was conducted in 25 districts of 7 cities in Northeast China during 2009. Three-year (2006-2008) average concentrations of particles with an aerodynamic diameter of ≤10 μm (PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxides (NO2), and ozone (O3) were calculated from monitoring stations in each of the 25 districts. We used two-level logistic regression models to examine the effects of yearly variations in exposure to each pollutant, controlling for important covariates. RESULTS The prevalence of respiratory symptoms was higher for those dwelling close to a busy road, those living near smokestacks or factories, those living with smokers, those living in one-story houses typically with small yards, and those with home renovation, bedroom carpet or pets. Ventilation device use was associated with decreased odds of asthma in children. The adjusted odds ratio for diagnosed-asthma was 1.34 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.24-1.45) per 31 μg/m(3) increase in PM10, 1.23 (95%CI, 1.14-1.32) per 21 μg/m(3) increase in SO2, 1.25 (95%CI, 1.16-1.36) per 10 μg/m(3) increase in NO2, and 1.31 (95%CI, 1.21-1.41) per 23 μg/m(3) increase in O3, respectively. CONCLUSION Outdoor and indoor air pollution was associated with an increased likelihood of respiratory morbidity among Chinese children.

Abstract
Liver fibrosis is a key step of the "hepatitis - liver fibrosis/cirrhosis - liver cancer" sequence, and effective control and even reverse of liver fibrosis are imperative to prevent the development of liver cancer. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition is a hotspot in research of liver fibrosis, and numerous in vivo and in vitro experiments have been done in recent years. This paper reviews the relationship between epithelial-mesenchymal transition and hepatic fibrosis.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the role of the rat neuregulin-1 (NRG-1) protein in reducing doxorubicin (DOX)-induced myocardial toxicity and its underlying mechanism. The prokaryotic expression of the NRG-1 protein and the CCK8-determined activity of rat primary myocardial cells were evaluated under different DOX concentrations. Myocardial cells were divided into three groups: the control group, the 5 μM DOX (DOX5) group, and the DOX5+NRG-1 group. Western blotting was used to determine the Na+-Ca2+ exchanger (NCX-1) and cardiac myosin light-chain kinase (cMLCK) protein expression levels and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction methods were used to determine the mRNA expression levels. The prokaryotic expression of NRG-1 in the DOX5 group produced toxicity in the rat myocardial cells, and cell activity was significantly restored with the addition of NRG-1. The protective effect of NRG-1 was limited at higher DOX concentrations (DOX10), and the degree of cellular activity restoration was positively correlated with NRG-1 concentration. The addition of NRG-1 to DOX5 intervention inhibited NCX-1 protein and mRNA expression, and increased cMLCK protein and mRNA expression. In conclusion, DOX-induced toxicity in rat myocardial cells could be protected by NRG-1, and the mechanism may be related to the role of NRG-1 in up-regulating the cMLCK expression level and down-regulating the NCX-1 expression level.

The design of the probe is based on the concept of the α-particle detectors on Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) using scintillator plates. The probe is capable of traveling across an equatorial plane port and sweeping the aperture angle rotationally with respect to the axis of the probe shaft by two step motors, in order to optimize the radial position and the collimator angle. The energy and the pitch angle of the lost fast ions can be simultaneously measured if the two-dimensional image of scintillation light intensity due to the impact of the lost fast ions is detected. Measurements of the fast-ion losses using the probe have been performed during HL-2A neutral beam injection discharges. The clear experimental evidence of enhanced losses of beam ions during disruptions has been obtained by means of the SLIP system. A detailed description of the probe system and the first experimental results are reported.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The relationship between obesity and allergic respiratory diseases in childhood is still controversial. Furthermore, significant debate on the issue of whether or not gender modifies this association also exists due to inconsistent findings. The objective of this study is to evaluate the association between obesity and respiratory health in children, and to investigate the modifications of gender on this association. METHODS 30 056 children (aged 2-14 years) were randomly selected from 25 districts within 7 cities in Northeastern China in 2009. A standard questionnaire from the American Thoracic Society was used to characterize the children's histories of respiratory symptoms and illnesses. Child weight and height were measured, and obesity was calculated with an age and sex-specific body mass index. RESULTS The overall prevalence rates of obesity and overweightness were 14.08% and 12.32%, respectively. Compared to the children with normal body weights, asthma and asthma-related symptoms were more prevalent in overweight and obese children. Analysis stratified by gender showed that obesity was associated with more respiratory symptoms and diseases in females than in males. A significant association between obesity and diagnosed asthma [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.28; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.02-1.60], as well as current wheezing (aOR = 1.46; 95%CI: 1.20-1.79) was found in females but not in males. CONCLUSIONS There is an association between asthma symptoms and obesity in these Chinese children, and obesity had a significantly larger effect on females than males.

Abstract
Multiple genes are restrictively expressed in mammalian testicular tissues, and they play important roles in the complex process of spermatogenesis. Investigation of these genes and their expression regulation mechanisms is valuable to elucidate the molecular process of spermatogenesis. In this study, we identified a novel human gene, ring finger protein 148 (RNF148) that is abundantly expressed in testes and slightly expressed in pancreas. In situ hybridization analysis showed that RNF148 messenger RNA was mainly present in the interstitial cells of human testicular tissues, and immunohistochemical analysis confirmed protein levels in that location. Treatment with histone deacetylase inhibitor trichostatin A activated the expression of RNF148 messenger RNA in a time- and concentration-dependent manner in HEK293T and HeLa cells, neither of which normally express RNF148. Chromatin immunoprecipitation analysis showed that trichostatin A treatment increased the binding of acetylated histone H3 to the RNF148 gene promoter. We identified a novel human testicular interstitial gene and observed that histone deacetylases regulate RNF148 expression.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the changes in plasma levels of thrombomodulin (TM) and D-dimer (DD) in children with different types of Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP), and their role in the pathogenesis of MPP in children. METHODS Fifty-two children with MMP were divided into lobar pneumonia (n=30) and interstitial pneumonia groups (n=22) and another 30 healthy children were selected as the control group. Plasma levels of TM and D-D were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and latex-enhanced immunoturbidimetric assay, respectively. RESULTS The lobar pneumonia, interstitial pneumonia and control groups had median plasma TM levels of 23.83, 15.56 and 8.78 μg/L respectively, with significant differences between the three groups (P<0.01). The lobar pneumonia and interstitial pneumonia groups had significantly higher plasma TM levels than the control group (P<0.01), and the lobar pneumonia group had a significantly higher plasma TM level than the interstitial pneumonia group (P<0.05). Median plasma D-D levels in the lobar pneumonia and interstitial pneumonia groups were significantly higher than the reference value (P<0.01). The lobar pneumonia group had a significantly higher plasma D-D level than the interstitial pneumonia group (0.35 μg/mL vs 0.13 μg/mL; P<0.01), and the percentage of patients with elevated plasma D-D levels was significantly higher in the lobar pneumonia group than in the interstitial pneumonia group (87% vs 59%; P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Children with MPP, especially those with lobar pneumonia, have increased plasma levels of TM and D-D. This suggests that damage to vascular endothelial cells and blood hypercoagulability may be involved in the pathogenesis of MPP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Concentrations of ambient air pollution and pollutants in China have changed considerably during the last decade. However, few studies have evaluated the effects of current ambient air pollution on the health of kindergarten children. METHODS We studied 6730 Chinese children (age, 3-7 years) from 50 kindergartens in 7 cities of Northeast China in 2009. Parents or guardians completed questionnaires that asked about the children's histories of respiratory symptoms and risk factors. Three-year concentrations of particles with an aerodynamic diameter ≤10 µm (PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen dioxides (NO2) were calculated at monitoring stations in 25 study districts. A 2-stage regression approach was used in data analyses. RESULTS The prevalence of respiratory symptoms was higher among children living near a busy road, those living near chimneys or a factory, those having a coal-burning device, those living with smokers, and those living in a home that had been recently renovated. Among girls, PM10 was associated with persistent cough (odds ratio [OR]PM10 = 1.44; 95% CI, 1.18-1.77), persistent phlegm (ORPM10 = 1.36; 95% CI, 1.02-1.81), and wheezing (ORPM10 = 1.31; 95% CI, 1.04-1.65). NO2 concentration was associated with increased prevalence of allergic rhinitis (OR = 1.96; 95% CI, 1.27-3.02) among girls. In contrast, associations of respiratory symptoms with concentrations of PM10, SO2, and NO2 were not statistically significant among boys. CONCLUSIONS Air pollution is particularly important in the development of respiratory morbidity among children. Girls may be more susceptible than boys to air pollution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There have been few published studies on spirometric reference values for healthy children in China. We hypothesize that there would have been changes in lung function that would not have been precisely predicted by the existing spirometric reference equations. The objective of the study was to develop more accurate predictive equations for spirometric reference values for children aged 9 to 15 years in Northeast China. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Spirometric measurements were obtained from 3,922 children, including 1,974 boys and 1,948 girls, who were randomly selected from five cities of Liaoning province, Northeast China, using the ATS (American Thoracic Society) and ERS (European Respiratory Society) standards. The data was then randomly split into a training subset containing 2078 cases and a validation subset containing 1844 cases. Predictive equations used multiple linear regression techniques with three predictor variables: height, age and weight. Model goodness of fit was examined using the coefficient of determination or the R(2) and adjusted R(2). The predicted values were compared with those obtained from the existing spirometric reference equations. The results showed the prediction equations using linear regression analysis performed well for most spirometric parameters. Paired t-tests were used to compare the predicted values obtained from the developed and existing spirometric reference equations based on the validation subset. The t-test for males was not statistically significant (p>0.01). The predictive accuracy of the developed equations was higher than the existing equations and the predictive ability of the model was also validated. CONCLUSION/SIGNIFICANCE We developed prediction equations using linear regression analysis of spirometric parameters for children aged 9-15 years in Northeast China. These equations represent the first attempt at predicting lung function for Chinese children following the ATS/ERS Task Force 2005 guidelines on spirometry standardization.

Abstract
The title compound, C19H20O6, consists of a tetrasubstituted benzene ring with one substituent being an α,β-unsaturated cinnamoyl group, which forms an extended conjugated system in the molecule. In addition, two methoxymethoxy and one hydroxy group are bonded to the central benzene ring. The dihedral angle between eh rings is 10.22 (10)°. An intramolecular hydrogen bond is observed between the hydroxy group and the carbonyl O atom. One of the methoxymethoxy substituents is conformationally disordered over two sets of sites with site-occupation factors of 0.831 (3) and 0.169 (3).

Abstract
Aptamers that recognize the IgG Fc region are of great interest because of their wide application as an immunology probing tool, for diagnostics, and as affinity agents for antibody purification. We developed a target replacement strategy as a modification of conventional Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential enrichment (SELEX) in order to efficiently select and identify novel DNA aptamers against the Fc region of mouse IgG. In this new approach, multiple IgG subclasses (IgG1, IgG2a, mouse IgG Fc, and anti-HBs IgG) were sequentially used to select aptamers in one continuous SELEX. After 8 rounds of selection, the aptamers were analyzed using dot blot and an electrophoretic mobility shift assay, which showed universal binding capability to different IgG subclasses. Secondary structure analysis of the aptamers indicated that the stem-loop structure of the aptamers play an important role in binding to the common site in different mouse IgG subclasses. This demonstrated the feasibility of using multiple target replacement SELEX for the selection of aptamers. This target replacement strategy is also expected to be useful for selecting aptamers that bind common regions of molecules other than antibodies.

Abstract
To bring about improvements in cancer biology research and elucidate mechanism-based therapeutic targets, we studied the proteome expression profile of purified normal urothelial cells (cancer cells) and normal stromal cells (cancerous stromal cells). Based on the expression profile, biomarker discovery and the mechanisms of multi-step carcinogenesis were explored. We found that 1412/1403 unique proteins commonly appeared in 4 sets of paired cancer/normal tissue, and 1753 proteins were differentially expressed. Three hundred and forty-one proteins were repeatedly expressed in both cancer and cancer stromal cells; 358 proteins were repeatedly expressed in both normal urothelial and normal stromal cells. Among them, 186/203 proteins were specific repeat expressions in cancer/normal tissue and thought to play an important role in cancer-stroma interactions. Differential proteins were further analyzed using bioinformatic tools and compared with the published literature. GO enrichment/depletion analysis indicated that carcinogenesis involved all the biological processes and all the cellular components. Five hundred and sixty-eight differential proteins were located in the well-known biological Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways, including metabolic pathways, ribosome spliceosome, and endocytosis. One hundred and thirty-nine of the 186 proteins that displayed specific repeat expressions in cancer tissue were located in the biological Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways and are thought to be candidate biomarkers for targeted therapy.

Abstract
Cadherin-17 (CDH17), as a structurally unique member of the cadherin superfamily, has been identified to predict a poor prognosis for gastric cancer (GC). Our previous study demonstrated the positive correlation between CDH17 and lymph node micrometastasis in GC. We sought to further identify the role of CDH17 in the tumorigenesis and lymphatic metastasis of GC. Hence, we inhibited the CDH17 expression in MKN-45 gastric cancer cells by using RNA interference. Consequently, the malignant potency of cancer cells was evaluated, and the change in NFκB signaling pathway was also probed. Tumor growth and lymphatic metastasis model were conducted in nude mice to confirm the hypothesis. Downregulation of CDH17 not only suppressed the proliferation, adherence and invasion potency of MKN-45 cells, but also induced cell cycle arrest. Meanwhile, the NFκB signaling pathway was inactivated as well, with the reductions of downstream proteins including VEGF-C and MMP-9. Moreover, silencing CDH17 inhibited tumor growth in vivo significantly, and there was no lymph node metastasis detected in the mice without CDH17 expression, as opposed to the positive nodes found in controls. CDH17 is a novel oncogene in gastric cancer cells, which is associated with lymphatic metastasis and proliferation strongly. The inactivation of NFκB signaling pathway might be involved in targeting CDH17 in GC. On the whole, CDH17 is proposed to serve as a biomarker and attractive therapeutic target in GC.
