The Relationship Between Internal Employer Branding and Talent Retention: A Theoretical Investigation for the Development of a Conceptual Framework

The focus of this paper is to develop a comprehensive conceptual framework for the relationship between internal employer brand image and talent retention. An extensive and semi-systematic literature review identified a number of antecedents and consequences that have been empirically tested in various cutting-edge research studies that were conducted around the world. The existing literature is reviewed using a topical approach, and 66 research studies, most recent from various repositories, were carefully chosen and reviewed based on the criteria. Such studies have been discerned and synthesized in order to establish a complete and accurate understanding of the phenomenon. Finally, a comprehensive and relatively rich conceptual framework has been proposed for future empirical explanations in various social settings via prospective research.

Crop and water productivity and profitability of broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. var. italica) under gravity drip irrigation with mulching condition in a humid sub-tropical climate

Strategic irrigation planning and soil water conservation measure can be rewarding for increasing agricultural productivity in a humid subtropical climatic environment. Field experiments were conducted to evaluate broccoli yield response to crop water productivity (CWP), irrigation water productivity (IWP) and economics under varied irrigation regimes and mulching. Four levels of irrigation: surface irrigation at 1.0 IW/CPE (irrigation water to cumulative pan evaporation, I₁), drip irrigation at 0.6 (I₂), 0.8 (I₃) and 1.0 (I₄) of crop evapotranspiration (ETc) and three mulches: none (M₀), black polythene mulch (BPM, M₁) and paddy straw mulch (PSM, M₂) were examined. Among these treatments I₃M₁ produced the higher yield (19.17 t ha^-1), CWP, IWP and maximum benefit-cost ratio (BCR), being almost competitive with I₃M₁. Under scarcity of water, I₂M₁ was an alternative. Drip irrigation could save 21.2–52.7% water over surface irrigation which accommodated 17.1 to 53.3% additional area under irrigation. Yield response factor and water-yield production function suggested the potential yield decrease in relation to increased deficit irrigation. However, a deficit drip irrigation scheduling with 0.8 ETc at a 3-day interval is optimum for increased curd yield, water productivity and economics of broccoli.

Medication reconciliation on discharge in a tertiary care Riyadh Hospital: An observational study

The purpose of this study was to assess the frequency and characteristics of discharge medication discrepancies as identified by pharmacists during discharge medication reconciliation. We also attempted to identify the factors that influence the occurrence of drug discrepancies during medication reconciliation. From June to December 2019, a prospective study was performed at the cardiac center of King Fahad Medical City (KFMC), a tertiary care hospital in Riyadh. The information from discharge prescriptions as compared to the medication administration record (MAR), medication history in the cortex system, and the patient home medication list collected from the medication reconciliation form on admission. The study included all adult patients discharged from KFMC’s cardiac center. These participants comprised 776 patients, 64.6 percent of whom were men and 35.4 percent of whom were women. Medication discrepancies were encountered in 180 patients (23.2%) out of 776 patients. In regards to the number of discharged medications, 651(83.9%) patients had ≥ 5 medications. Around, 174 (73.4%) discrepancies were intentional, and 63 (26.6%) were unintentional discrepancies. The risk of unintentional medication discrepancy was increased with an increasing number of medications (P-value = 0.008). One out of every four cardiac patients discharged from our hospital had at least one medication discrepancy. The number of drugs taken and the number of discrepancies was found to be related. Necessary steps should be taken to reduce these discrepancies and improve the standard of care.

Stability and electronic properties of gallenene

Two-dimensional metals offer intriguing possibilities to explore the metallic and other related properties in systems with reduced dimensionality. Here, following recent experimental reports of synthesis of two-dimensional metallic gallium (gallenene) on insulating substrates, we conduct a computational search of gallenene structures using the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm, and identify stable low energy structures. Our calculations of the critical temperature for conventional superconductivity yield values of ∼7 K for gallenene. We also emulate the presence of the substrate by introducing the external confining potential and test its effect on the structures with unstable phonons.

Value of Serum miRNA-96-5p and miRNA-99a-5p as Diagnostic Biomarkers for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Purpose

Circulatory microRNAs (miRNAs) have the potential to be employed as markers for cancer detection and as prognostic tools for disease management. As a result, our goal was to explore the effectiveness of serum miRNA-96-5p and miRNA-99a-5p as diagnostic tools in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Patients and methods

Blood samples were collected from 55 patients with HCV-induced HCC, 55 patients with HCV-induced liver cirrhosis, and 55 healthy controls. The expression levels of miRNA-96-5p and miRNA-99a-5p were measured using quantitative RT-PCR.

Results

miRNA-96-5p expression levels were increased in HCC patient sera, while miRNA-99a-5p levels were reduced. According to ROC curve analysis, using a combination of circulating miRNA-96-5p, miRNA-99a-5-, and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) improves the accuracy of diagnoses for HCC, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.97, compared to AUCs of 0.82, 0.86, and 0.73, respectively, for the individual biomarkers. Furthermore, the present data suggested that higher serum miRNA-96-5p levels were linked to larger tumors and metastasis, whereas lower serum miRNA-99a-5p levels were exclusively linked to HCC metastasis.

Conclusion

Using miRNA-96-5p and miRNA-99a-5p in combination with AFP increased both sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of HCC. Furthermore, serum levels were linked to tumor size and metastasis. These findings suggested that serum miRNA-96-5p and miRNA-99a-5p could be used as non-invasive biomarkers for the diagnosis of HCC.

Effect of pH on the structure and function of cyclin-dependent kinase 6

Cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6) is an important protein kinase that regulates cell growth, development, cell metabolism, inflammation, and apoptosis. Its overexpression is associated with reprogramming glucose metabolism through alternative pathways and apoptosis, which ultimately plays a significant role in cancer development. In the present study, we have investigated the structural and conformational changes in CDK6 at varying pH employing a multi-spectroscopic approach. Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy revealed at extremely acidic conditions (pH 2.0–4.0), the secondary structure of CDK6 got significantly disrupted, leading to aggregates formation. These aggregates were further characterized by employing Thioflavin T (ThT) fluorescence. No significant secondary structural changes were observed over the alkaline pH range (pH 7.0–11.0). Further, fluorescence and UV spectroscopy revealed that the tertiary structure of CDK6 was disrupted under extremely acidic conditions, with slight alteration occurring in mild acidic conditions. The tertiary structure remains intact over the entire alkaline range. Additionally, enzyme assay provided an insight into the functional aspect of CDK at varying pH; CDK6 activity was optimal in the pH range of 7.0–8.0. This study will provide a platform that provides newer insights into the pH-dependent dynamics and functional behavior of CDK6 in different CDK6 directed diseased conditions, viz. different types of cancers where changes in pH contribute to cancer development.

Hydrothermal Extraction of Amorphous Silica from Locally Available Slate

Slate is a naturally available aluminous silicate based material and can be used as a good source for silica extraction. In the current investigation, the slate sample was passed through calcination and acid leaching processes to decrease alumina contents and other major constituents. Silica extraction was performed by alkaline hydrothermal treatment of a given slate sample followed by acidic precipitation. Different steps, including the effect of concentration of sodium hydroxide solution, reaction time, the ratio of the mass of sample to volume of alkaline solution, the temperature of dispersion, and pH of the filtrate, were investigated to extract the maximum amount of pure amorphous silica. The extracted silica was physicochemically analyzed through XRF, XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, and SEM techniques. The amorphous nature of the extracted silica is evident from XRD and SEM studies, while FT-IR studies support its purity, showing peaks of only Si-O-Si bonds. The purity of the extracted silica was further confirmed via XRF spectroscopic analysis and a hydrofluoric acid test.

Boosting capacitive performance of manganese oxide nanorods by decorating with three-dimensional crushed graphene

This work reports the rational design of MnO_x nanorods on 3D crushed reduced graphene oxide (MnO_x/C-rGO) by chemical reduction of Ni-incorporated graphene oxide (GO) followed by chemical etching to remove Ni. The resulting MnO_x/C-rGO composite synergistically integrates the electronic properties and geometry structure of MnO_x and 3D C-rGO. As a result, MnO_x/C-rGO shows a significantly higher specific capacitance (C_sp) of 863 F g^-1 than MnO_x/2D graphene sheets (MnO_x/S-rGO) (373 F g^-1) and MnO_x (200 F g^-1) at a current density of 0.2 A g^-1. Furthermore, when assembled into symmetric supercapacitors, the MnO_x/C-rGO-based device delivers a higher C_sp (288 F g^-1) than MnO_x/S-rGO-based device (75 F g^-1) at a current density of 0.3 A g^-1. The superior capacitive performance of the MnO_x/C-rGO-based symmetric device is attributed to the enlarged accessible surface, reduced lamellar stacking of graphene, and improved ionic transport provided by the 3D architecture of MnO_x/C-rGO. In addition, the MnO_x/C-rGO-based device exhibits an energy density of 23 Wh kg^-1 at a power density of 113 Wkg^-1, and long-term cycling stability, demonstrating its promising potential for practical application.

Fault Diagnostics and Tolerance Analysis of a Microgrid System Using Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs Equation and Game Theoretic Estimations in Sliding Mode Observers

This paper focuses on robustness and sensitivity analysis for sensor fault diagnosis of a voltage source converter based microgrid model. It uses robust control parameters such as minimum sensitivity parameter (H-), maximum robustness parameter (H∞), and compromised both (H-/H∞), being incorporated in the sliding mode observer theory using the game theoretic saddle point estimation achieved through convex optimization of constrained LMIs. The approach used works in a way that the mentioned robust control parameters are embedded in Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs-Equation (HJIE) and are also used to determine the inequality version of HJIE, which is, in terms of the Lyapunov function, faults/disturbances and augmented state/output estimation error as its variables. The stability analysis is also presented by negative definiteness of the same inequality version of HJIE, and additionally, it also gives linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are optimized using iterative convex optimization algorithms to give optimal sliding mode observer gains enhanced with robustness to maximal preset values of disturbances and sensitivity to minimal preset values of faults. The enhanced sliding mode observer is used to estimate states, faults, and disturbances using sliding mode observer theory. The optimality of sliding mode observer gains for sensitivity of the observer to minimal faults and robustness to maximal disturbance is a game theoretic saddle point estimation achieved through convex optimization of LMIs. The paper includes results for state estimation errors, faults' estimation/reconstruction, fault estimation errors, and fault-tolerant-control performance for current and potential transformer faults. The considered faults and disturbances in current and potential transformers are sinusoidal nature composite of magnitude/phase/harmonics at the same time.

A Novel Extra Tree Ensemble Optimized DL Framework (ETEODL) for Early Detection of Diabetes

Diabetes has been recognized as a global medical problem for more than half a century. Patients with diabetes can benefit from the Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), intelligent pens, and similar devices. Smart devices generate continuous data streams that must be processed in real-time to benefit the users. The amount of medical data collected is vast and heterogeneous since it is gathered from various sources. An accurate diagnosis can be achieved through a variety of scientific and medical techniques. It is necessary to process this streaming data faster to obtain relevant and significant knowledge. Recently, the research has concentrated on improving the prediction model's performance by using ensemble-based and Deep Learning (DL) approaches. However, the performance of the DL model can degrade due to overfitting. This paper proposes the Extra-Tree Ensemble feature selection technique to reduce the input feature space with DL (ETEODL), a predictive framework to predict the likelihood of diabetes. In the proposed work, dropout layers follow the hidden layers of the DL model to prevent overfitting. This research utilized a dataset from the UCI Machine learning (ML) repository for an Early-stage prediction of diabetes. The proposed scheme results have been compared with state-of-the-art ML algorithms, and the comparison validates the effectiveness of the predictive framework. This proposed work, which outperforms the other selected classifiers, achieves a 97.38 per cent accuracy rate. F1-Score, precision, and recall percent are 96, 97.7, and 97.7, respectively. The comparison unveils the superiority of the suggested approach. Thus, the proposed method effectively improves the performance against the earlier ML techniques and recent DL approaches and avoids overfitting.

Synergistic Approach toward Erbium-Passivated Triple-Anion Organic-Free Perovskite Solar Cells with Excellent Performance for Agrivoltaics Application

All-inorganic perovskite solar cells (IPSCs) have gained massive attention due to their less instability against common degradation factors (light, heat, and moisture) than their organic-inorganic hybrid counterparts. Inorganic perovskites bear a general formula of CsPbX₃ (X = Cl, I, Br). The mixed halide CsPbIBr₂ perovskite possesses an intermediate band gap of 2.03 eV with enhanced stability, which is still available for photovoltaic applications and the research focus of this work. We present a synergistic approach of pre-heated solution dropping with inorganic additive inclusion to deposit the organic-free triple anion CsPbIBr₂ PSC. Erbium (Er)-passivated triple-anion CsI(PbBr₂)_0.97(ErCl₃)_0.03 IPSCs with inorganic carrier selective layers (CTLs), that is, organic-free, are fabricated with enhanced carrier diffusion length and crystalline grain size while lessening the grain boundaries near perovskite active layer (PAL)-bulk/carrier selective interfaces. As a result, the trap-state densities within the perovskite bulk were suppressed with stabilized CTL/PAL interfaces for smooth and enhanced carrier transportation. Therefore, for the first time, we contradict the common belief of V_OC loss due to halide segregation, as a nice V_OC of about 1.34 V is achieved for an organic-free IPSC through enriching initial radiative efficiency, even when halide segregation is present. The optimized organic-free IPSC yielded a power conversion efficiency of 11.61% and a stabilized power output of 10.72%, which provides the potential opportunity to integrate into agrivoltaics (AgV) projects.

Novel and Potential Small Molecule Scaffolds as DYRK1A Inhibitors by Integrated Molecular Docking-Based Virtual Screening and Dynamics Simulation Study

The dual-specificity tyrosine phosphorylation-regulated kinase 1A (DYRK1A) is a novel, promising and emerging biological target for therapeutic intervention in neurodegenerative diseases, especially in Alzheimer's disease (AD). The molMall database, comprising rare, diverse and unique compounds, was explored for molecular docking-based virtual screening against the DYRK1A protein, in order to find out potential inhibitors. Ligands exhibiting hydrogen bond interactions with key amino acid residues such as Ile165, Lys188 (catalytic), Glu239 (gk+1), Leu241 (gk+3), Ser242, Asn244, and Asp307, of the target protein, were considered potential ligands. Hydrogen bond interactions with Leu241 (gk+3) were considered key determinants for the selection. High scoring structures were also docked by Glide XP docking in the active sites of twelve DYRK1A related protein kinases, viz. DYRK1B, DYRK2, CDK5/p25, CK1, CLK1, CLK3, GSK3β, MAPK2, MAPK10, PIM1, PKA, and PKCα, in order to find selective DYRK1A inhibitors. MM/GBSA binding free energies of selected ligand-protein complexes were also calculated in order to remove false positive hits. Physicochemical and pharmacokinetic properties of the selected six hit ligands were also computed and related with the proposed limits for orally active CNS drugs. The computational toxicity webserver ProTox-II was used to predict the toxicity profile of selected six hits (molmall IDs 9539, 11352, 15938, 19037, 21830 and 21878). The selected six docked ligand-protein systems were exposed to 100 ns molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to validate their mechanism of interactions and stability in the ATP pocket of human DYRK1A kinase. All six ligands were found to be stable in the ATP binding pocket of DYRK1A kinase.

Structural Elucidation, Electronic and Microwave Dielectric Properties of Ca(Sn x Ti1-x )O3, (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.8) Lead-Free Ceramics

The lead-free Ca(Sn _x Ti_1-x )O₃, (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.8) sample has been successfully prepared through the ball milling process, sintered at 1200 °C for 3 h. The structural, morphological, vibrational, and microwave dielectric properties of synthesized samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and impedance analysis. All the samples have an orthorhombic phase structure with a space group of Pbnm formation, and the crystalline size and strain changes with respect to Sn⁴⁺ doping were observed in the XRD analysis. From a morphological point of view, on increasing the content "x", the grain size reduces from 3.29 to 1.37 μm. The existence of vibrations and the bridging stretching mode of Ti-O-Ti and Ti-O-Sn both are associated with the broadband in the region below 800 cm^-1 verified by FT-IR. The variation in electrons hopping off the host compound with respect to Sn⁴⁺ ions was analyzed in AC conductivity. The changes of dielectric properties such as complex permittivity, modulus spectroscopy, and dielectric loss at room temperature with a different frequency range of 1.00-2.00 GHz are discussed.

Effect of Reaction Parameters on Catalytic Pyrolysis of Waste Cooking Oil for Production of Sustainable Biodiesel and Biojet by Functionalized Montmorillonite/Chitosan Nanocomposites

The use of waste oils as pyrolysis feedstocks to manufacture high-grade biofuels has prompted researchers to focus on developing renewable energy to overcome the depletion of fossil fuel supplies and the global warming phenomena. Because of their high hydrogen and volatile matter concentration, waste oils are ideal raw materials for the production of biofuels. It is challenging to attain satisfactory results with conventional methods, such as transesterification, gasification, solvent extraction, and hydrotreating due to flaws such as high energy demand, long time, and high operating costs. Catalytic pyrolysis of waste edible oils was employed as a resource for the generation of biodiesel. The application of the catalytic cracking process has the potential to alleviate the existing situation. In this study of catalytic cracking conversion of waste cooking oil to produce different biofuels, grades were investigated using two heterogeneous catalysts. The catalysts were activated montmorillonite (PAMMT) clay and its modified form using a chitosan biopolymer (PAMMT-CH) nanocomposite. The catalysts were identified using infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction patterns, transmittance electron microscopy images, surface area, and thermal stability. The catalysts were tested for their performances using different amounts (0.1-1% by weight) at a temperature assortment of 200-400 °C during a time range of 60-300 min. The experimental studies were carried out in a batch reactor. GC mass spectra were used to investigate the catalytic cracking products. Fractional distillation is used to separate the final products from various reaction conditions. The physicochemical properties of resulting biofuels were profiled by quantifying their densities, viscosities, specific gravities, pour points, flash and fire points, cetane numbers, carbon and ash residues, and sulfur contents. The optimum conditions of the yield product were 300 and 400 °C, catalyst weights of 0.7 and 0.8% w/v, and reaction times of 120 and 180 min concerning the (PAMMT) and (PAMMT-CH) nanocomposite, respectively. The determined properties were located within the limits of the specific standards of ASTM specifications. As a result, the PAMMT nanocomposite produced biofuel comparable to biodiesel according to ASTM specifications, while the PAMMT-CH nanocomposite produced biofuel comparable to biojet.

Synthesis and Evaluation of 1,3,5-Triaryl-2-Pyrazoline Derivatives as Potent Dual Inhibitors of Urease and α-Glucosidase Together with Their Cytotoxic, Molecular Modeling and Drug-Likeness Studies

In the present work, a concise library of 1,3,5-triaryl-2-pyrazolines (2a-2q) was designed and synthesized by employing a multistep strategy, and the newly synthesized compounds were screened for their urease and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. The compounds (2a-2q) were characterized using a combination of several spectroscopic techniques including FT-IR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, and EI-MS. All the synthesized compounds, except compound 2i, were potent against urease as compared to the standard inhibitor thiourea (IC₅₀ = 21.37 ± 0.26 μM). These analogs disclosed varying degrees of urease inhibitory activities ranging from 9.13 ± 0.25 to 18.42 ± 0.42 μM. Compounds 2b, 2g, 2m, and 2q having IC₅₀ values of 9.36 ± 0.27, 9.13 ± 0.25, 9.18 ± 0.35, and 9.35 ± 0.35 μM, respectively, showed excellent inhibitory activity as compared to standard thiourea (IC₅₀ = 21.37 ± 0.26 μM). A kinetic study of compound 2g revealed that compound 2g inhibited urease in a competitive mode. Among the synthesized pyrazolines, the compounds 2c, 2k, 2m, and 2o exhibited excellent α-glucosidase inhibitory activity with the lowest IC₅₀ values of 212.52 ± 1.31, 237.26 ± 1.28, 138.35 ± 1.32, and 114.57 ± 1.35 μM, respectively, as compared to the standard acarbose (IC₅₀ = 375.82 ± 1.76 μM). The compounds (2a-2q) showed α-glucosidase IC₅₀ values in the range of 114.57 ± 1.35 to 462.94 ± 1.23 μM. Structure-activity relationship revealed that the size and electron-donating or -withdrawing effects of substituents influenced the activities, which led to the urease and α-glucosidase inhibiting properties. Compound 2m was a dual potent inhibitor against urease and α-glucosidase due to the presence of 2-CF₃ electron-withdrawing functionality on the phenyl ring. To the best of our knowledge, these synthetic compounds were found to be the most potent dual inhibitors of urease and α-glucosidase with minimum IC₅₀ values. The cytotoxicity of the compounds (2a-2q) was also investigated against human cell lines MCF-7 and HeLa. Compound 2l showed moderate cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 and HeLa cell lines. Moreover, in silico studies on most active compounds were also performed to understand the binding interaction of most active compounds with active sites of urease and α-glucosidase enzymes. Some compounds exhibited drug-like characteristics due to their lower cytotoxic and good ADME profiles.

The Protective Impact of Salsola imbricata Leaf Extract From Taif Against Acrylamide-Induced Hepatic Inflammation and Oxidative Damage: The Role of Antioxidants, Cytokines, and Apoptosis-Associated Genes

Salsola imbricata is a herbal plant native to Saudi Arabia, known for its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. This study explored the protective effects of an ethanolic leaf extract of Salsola imbricata against the oxidative stress and hepatic injury caused by acrylamide. Rats received intragastric administrations of 20 mg/kg of body weight of acrylamide to induce hepatic injury, or 300 mg/kg of body weight of Salsola ethanolic extract orally for 7 days before acrylamide administration. The treatments were continued for 3 weeks. Blood and liver samples were collected from all the groups, and the following biochemical parameters were tested: serum ALT (alanine aminotransferase), AST (aspartate aminotransferase), GGT (gamma glutaryl transferase), urea, albumin, total proteins, catalase, SOD (superoxide dismutase), reduced glutathione (GSH), nitric oxide (NO), and MDA (malondialdehyde). Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to examine the expression of Nrf2 (Nuclear factor-erythroid factor 2-related factor 2), HO-1 (Hemoxygenase-1), COX-2 (Cyclooxgenase-2), TGF-β1 (transforming growth factor-beta1), Bax, and Bcl2 (B-cell lymphoma 2), which are associated with oxidative stress, fibrosis, apoptosis, and anti-apoptotic effects. The annexin and survivin immunoreactivity were examined at the immunohistochemical level. Pretreatment with the Salsola ethanolic extract reduced the negative impact of acrylamide on ALT, AST, GGT, urea, albumin, and total proteins. The Salsola ethanolic extract reversed acrylamide's effects on serum and tissue antioxidants. Nrf2/HO-1 expression was downregulated, while COX-2 and TGF-β1 were upregulated in the acrylamide-administered group and normalized by the pre-administration of Salsola ethanolic extract to the acrylamide experimental group. The immunoreactivity of annexin and survivin was restored in the experimental group administered Salsola ethanolic extract plus acrylamide. In conclusion, Salsola ethanolic extract inhibits and regulates the side effects induced in the liver by acrylamide. Salsola induced its impacts by regulating inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis-/anti-apoptosis-associated genes at the biochemical, molecular, and cellular levels. Salsola is recommended as oxidative stress relievers against environmental toixicity at high altitude areas.

Facile Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles for Anticancer, Antioxidant Applications, and Photocatalytic Degradation of Toxic Organic Pollutants

In the current study, a facile, rapid, and ecologically safe photosynthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) that remained stable for 3 months is reported to advocate the main aspects of green chemistry, such as safer solvents and auxiliaries, and the use of renewable feedstock. Zi-AuNPs were phytosynthesized by the aqueous extract of Ziziphus spina-christi leaves, and numerous techniques were employed for their characterization. The results demonstrated the successful phytofabrication of crystalline AuNPs with brownish-black color, spherical nanoparticles with a size between 0 and 10 nm, a plasmon peak at 540 nm, and a surface charge of -25.7 mV. Zi-AuNPs showed an effective photodegradation efficiency (81.14%) against malachite green and a good recycling capacity of 69.2% after five cycles of regeneration. The cytotoxicity test by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay signified a high anticancer efficiency for both Zi-AuNPs and Z. spina-christi extract against human breast cancer cells (MCF7 cell line) with IC₅₀'s of 48 and 40.25 μg/mL, respectively. Highly efficient antioxidant capabilities were proven with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) removal percentages of 67.5% for Zi-AuNPs and 92.34% for Z. spina-christi extract.

Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Profiling of DUF221 Gene Family Provides New Insights Into Abiotic Stress Responses in Potato

The domain of the unknown function 221 proteins regulate several processes in plants, including development, growth, hormone transduction mechanism, and abiotic stress response. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis of the potato genome was conducted to identify the deafness-dystonia peptide (DDP) proteins' role in potatoes. In the present study, we performed a genome-wide analysis of the potato domain of the unknown function 221 (DUF221) genes, including phylogenetic inferences, chromosomal locations, gene duplications, gene structures, and expression analysis. In our results, we identified 10 DDP genes in the potato genome. The phylogenetic analysis results indicated that StDDPs genes were distributed in all four clades, and clade IV was the largest clade. The gene duplication under selection pressure analysis indicated various positive and purifying selections in StDDP genes. The putative stu-miRNAs from different families targeting StDDPs were also predicted in the present study. Promoter regions of StDDP genes contain different cis-acting components involved in multiple stress responses, such as phytohormones and abiotic stress-responsive factors. The analysis of the tissue-specific expression profiling indicated the StDDPs gene expression in stem, root, and leaf tissues. We subsequently observed that StDDP4, StDDP5, and StDDP8 showed higher expressions in roots, stems, and leaves. StDDP5 exhibited high expression against heat stress response, and StDDP7 showed high transcript abundance against salt stress in potatoes. Under abscisic acid (ABA) and indole acetic acid (IAA) treatments, seven StDDP genes' expressions indicated that ABA and IAA performed important roles in immunity response. The expression profiling and real-time qPCR of stems, roots, and leaves revealed StDDPs' significant role in growth and development. These expression results of DDPs are primary functional analysis and present basic information for other economically important crops.

Structural Evolution and Microwave Dielectric Properties of Ba1-x Sr x Ti4O9, (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.06) Ceramics

The structural, microstructural, and microwave dielectric properties of Ba_1-x Sr _x Ti₄O₉, (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.06) ceramics samples synthesized by a conventional route were investigated. These structural, microstructural, and dielectric properties were recorded using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and impedance analyzer spectroscopies. Ti-O octahedral distortion was observed due to Sr²⁺ addition. The microwave dielectric properties were interrelated with various Sr²⁺ concentrations. Excellent microwave dielectric properties, i.e., high relative permittivity (ϵ_r = 71.50) and low dielectric loss (tan δ = 0.0006), were obtained.

Antimicrobial Efficacy of Glass Ionomer Cement in Incorporation with Biogenic Zingiber officinale Capped Silver-Nanobiotic, Chlorhexidine Diacetate and Lyophilized Miswak

In the present study, Zingiber officinale is used for the synthesis of Zingiber officinale capped silver nanoparticles (ZOE-AgNPs) and compares the antimicrobial efficacy and compressive strength of conventional glass ionomer cement (GIC) combined with ZOE-AgNPs, lyophilized miswak, and chlorhexidine diacetate (CHX) against oral microbes. Five groups of the disc-shaped GIC specimens were prepared. Group A: lyophilized miswak and GIC combination, Group B: ZOE-AgNPs and GIC combinations, Group C: CHX and GIC combination, Group D: ZOE-AgNPs + CHX + GIC; Group E: Conventional GIC. Results confirmed the successful formation of ZOE-AgNPs that was monitored by UV-Vis sharp absorption spectra at 415 nm. The X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) results revealed the formation of ZOE-AgNPs with a mean size 10.5-14.12 nm. The peaks of the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were appearing the involvement of ZOE components onto the surface of ZOE-AgNPs which played as bioreducing, and stabilizing agents. At a 24-h, one-week and three-week intervals, Group D showed the significantly highest mean inhibitory zones compared to Group A, Group B, and Group C. At microbe-level comparison, Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus were inhibited significantly by all the specimens tested except group E when compared to Candida albicans. Group D specimens showed slightly higher (45.8 ± 5.4) mean compressive strength in comparison with other groups. The combination of GIC with ZOE-AgNPs and chlorhexidine together enhanced its antimicrobial efficacy and compressive strength compared to GIC with ZOE-AgNPs or lyophilized miswak or chlorhexidine combination alone. The present study revealed that The combination of GIC with active components of ZOE-AgNPs and chlorhexidine paves the way to lead its effective nano-dental materials applications.

Preferential Solvation Study of the Synthesized Aldose Reductase Inhibitor (SE415) in the {PEG 400 (1) + Water (2)} Cosolvent Mixture and GastroPlus-Based Prediction

(Z)-N-Benzyl-2-{2,4-dioxo-5-(4-prop-2-yl-1-yloxyl)benzylidene)thiazolin-3-yl)}acetamide (SE415) is a novel aldose reductase inhibitor used in the management of diabetes mellitus (DM) and associated complications. Herein, the drug was solubilized (mole fraction solubility) in a "PEG 400 (polyethylene glycol 400) + water" mixture of various ratios at 298.15 K. We reported the preferential solvation of SE415 by PEG 400 using Kirkwood-Buff integrals, the thermodynamic functional parameter, in vitro dissolution, and GastroPlus-based predictions for in vivo performance. The result of Hansen solubility parameter analysis suggested PEG 400 as a suitable solvent for SE415 solubilization at 298.0 K, followed by prediction of several physicochemical properties. In the preferential solvation study, the molar volume, Hildebrand solubility parameters, and the molecular radius of SE415 were estimated as 258.4 cm³·mol^-1, 27.62 MPa^1/2, and 0.468 nm, respectively, using Fedors' method. The inverse Kirkwood-Buff integrals indicated that the preferential solvation of SE415 by PEG 400 occurred in all studied ratios of the (PEG 400 + water) mixtures. The maximum value (δx _1,3 = 1.21 × 10^-2) of the preferential solvation of SE415 by PEG 400 was achieved at x ₁ = 0.15. Then, using GastroPlus software, the maximum dissolution, improved in vivo oral absorption, and high regional compartmental absorption (total 99.0%) of SE415 in humans were predicted. Finally, the solubility data were correlated/predicted using various cosolvency models with satisfactory results. Thus, the binary cosolvent system can be a promising approach for enhanced oral absorption in controlling DM and associated complications in humans.

Use of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles as Anticoccidial Agents in Broiler Chickens along with Its Impact on Growth Performance, Antioxidant Status and Hematobiochemical Profile

The impact of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) on the pathogenesis of coccidiosis in broiler chickens was tested. A total of 160 1-day-old broiler chicks (Ross 308) were randomly allocated into 4 groups (n = 40). Group 1: unchallenged, unmedicated; Group 2: challenged, unmedicated; Group 3: challenged, supplemented with diclazuril (1 ppm); Group 4: challenged, supplemented with ZnO-NPs (20 ppm). Mixed Eimeria species (E. maxima, E. acervulina, E. mivati, and E. tenella) of a commercial coccidial vaccine (FORTEGRA®) were used to perform the coccidial challenge by 15× of its vaccinal dose on the 14th day of age. Diclazuril and ZnO-NPs supplementation in Group 3 and 4, respectively, reduced the mortality rate due to coccidial challenge to 5.8% compared to 11.9% in Group 2. The growth performance was improved by ZnO-NPs in coccidiosis-infected group (p ≤ 0.05) compared to Group 2 and was comparable to that of Group 3 (p ≥ 0.05). The average oocyst count was lower in Groups 3 and 4 (7.8 × 103 and 14.3 × 103, respectively) than in Group 2 (67 × 103 oocysts). Group 3 had a decreased gross lesion score in duodenum and caecum (p ≤ 0.05) as well as jujenum and ileum (p ≥ 0.05) compared to Group 2; while the average lesion scores of all intestinal parts in Group 4 were significantly decreased (p ≤ 0.05). However, diclazuril was superior to ZnO-NPs in reducing caecal lesion score (p ≤ 0.05). Plasma carotenoids levels were increased by diclazuril (p ≥ 0.05) and ZnO-NPs (p ≤ 0.05) supplementation compared to Group 2. Oxidative stress appeared on the fourth week post-challenge (pc) in Group 2 (p ≤ 0.05) compared to Group 1, while the dietary supplementation with either diclazuril or ZnO-NPs numerically decreased Malondialdhyde (p ≥ 0.05) and statistically increased antioxidant activity (p ≤ 0.05). Both medications significantly improved the PCV%, Hb% and RBCs count on the 6th-day and 4th-week pc (p ≤ 0.05) compared to Group 2, though this improvement was higher significantly in Group 4 than Group 3 on the 6th day pc (p ≤ 0.05). Neither coccidial challenge nor medications had an impact on the total WBCs count as well as organ index, except Bursa of fabricious index that significantly improved by ZnO-NPs on the 4th-week pc compared to Group 2. Coccidial challenge reduced total protein and globulin levels and increased the serum alanine aminotransferase, serum cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein levels (p ≤ 0.05) compared to Group 1, while those of both medicated groups (Group 3 and 4) were comparable to Group 1 (p ≥ 0.05). In conclusion, ZnO-NPs were found to be as effective as diclazuril against coccidiosis. However, further research is needed to fully comprehend its anticoccidial mechanisms.

Coupling multifunction drones with AI in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic

When COVID-19 was declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization on 11 March 2020, national governments and health authorities across the world begun considering different preventive measures to fight against the coronavirus outbreak. Researchers and tech companies worldwide have been striving to utilize advanced technologies to aid in the fight against the Covid-19 outbreak. This paper aims to couple multifunction drone with AI to deliver wireless services that will help the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic. The proposed drone-eye-system with its thermal imaging cameras and an AI framework utilizes a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with its Modified Artificial Neural Network (MANN) for face mask detection of people wearing masks in public. The system can perform basic diagnostic functions such as elevated body temperatures for helping minimize the risk of spreading the infection through close contact. The proposed framework has been developed using the MATLAB toolbox and shows promising results with an accuracy of face mask detection of 82.63%, with an F1-score of 0.98, and an enhanced by 10% link budget parameters.

Effects of Nitrogen Application Rate Under Straw Incorporation on Photosynthesis, Productivity and Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Winter Wheat

Developing a nitrogen fertilizer (N) reduction method under straw incorporation is essentially important for increasing wheat productivity in terms of improved fertilizer use efficiency and high yield in semiarid areas. A two-year field experiment, with five different nitrogen application rates: control (without N application, N0), low N (75 kg ha^-1, N75), medium N (150 kg ha^-1, N150), high N (225 kg ha^-1, N225) and excessive N (300 kg ha^-1, N300), was conducted in 2018 and 2019 to quantify their impacts on the photosynthetic characteristics, nitrogen utilization (in terms of N accumulation, distribution and transportation, and residual soil NO₃ ^--N) and productivity of winter wheat. There was a significant impact of N rates on photosynthetic traits, and N accumulation in different organs. As compared with the N300, N150, and N225 improved the photosynthetic characteristics, increased N accumulation in grains by 5.55 and 10.97%, the N contribution proportion of that accumulated after anthesis by 67.90 and 115.56%, and reduced residual N by 62.50 and 46.48%, respectively, thereby effectively improved N absorption efficiency and N contribution rates. Grain yield remained slightly or unchanged among N treatments. Although N0 and N75 treatments reduced the nitrate-N leaching but caused a significant reduction of 18.13 and 28.37%, respectively, in grain yield. From these results, we conclude that N application at 150 and 225 kg⋅ha^-1 under straw incorporation was the most effective fertilization method in achieving the higher photosynthetic characteristics, improving NUE and grain yield. This study provides theoretical and practical guidance for wheat production techniques.

Fruit Bromelain-Derived Peptide Potentially Restrains the Attachment of SARS-CoV-2 Variants to hACE2: A Pharmacoinformatics Approach

Before entering the cell, the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein receptor-binding domain (RBD) binds to the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2) receptor. Hence, this RBD is a critical target for the development of antiviral agents. Recent studies have discovered that SARS-CoV-2 variants with mutations in the RBD have spread globally. The purpose of this in silico study was to determine the potential of a fruit bromelain-derived peptide. DYGAVNEVK. to inhibit the entry of various SARS-CoV-2 variants into human cells by targeting the hACE binding site within the RBD. Molecular docking analysis revealed that DYGAVNEVK interacts with several critical RBD binding residues responsible for the adhesion of the RBD to hACE2. Moreover, 100 ns MD simulations revealed stable interactions between DYGAVNEVK and RBD variants derived from the trajectory of root-mean-square deviation (RMSD), radius of gyration (Rg), and root-mean-square fluctuation (RMSF) analysis, as well as free binding energy calculations. Overall, our computational results indicate that DYGAVNEVK warrants further investigation as a candidate for preventing SARS-CoV-2 due to its interaction with the RBD of SARS-CoV-2 variants.
