Abstract
Two purely inorganic three-dimensional (3D) frameworks [Mn4(H2O)11V(IV)(18)O42(PO4)](7-) (1) and [Mn2(H2O)7V(IV)(18)O42(PO4)](11-) (2) were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and fully characterized by single-crystal X-ray structural analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and PXRD. Structural analysis revealed that these two compounds contained a similar all reduced polyoxoanion [V(IV)(18)O42(PO4)](15-) linked by different amounts of manganese centers to form 3D framework materials. The V centers in these two compounds were all reduced to the +IV oxidation state, resulting in an all reduced polyoxoanion, which was firstly used as the building block for constructing 3D framework materials. The all reduced typical polyoxoanion [V(IV)(18)O42(PO4)](15-) with 15 negative charges supplied enough charge amount to accept TM cations. In these two structures, the anions were surrounded by 12 and 5 Mn(2+) ions, respectively, adjusted by varying the feeding amount of MnCl2·4H2O. An electrocatalytic study revealed that compound 1 exhibits electrocatalytic activity for reduction of H2O2.

Abstract
DNA end resection is a highly regulated and critical step in DNA double-stranded break (DSB) repair. In higher eukaryotes, DSB resection is initiated by the collaborative action of CtIP and the MRE11-RAD50-NBS1 (MRN) complex. Here, we find that the deubiquitylating enzyme USP4 directly participates in DSB resection and homologous recombination (HR). USP4 confers resistance to DNA damage-inducing agents. Mechanistically, USP4 interacts with CtIP and MRN via a specific, conserved region and the catalytic domain of USP4, respectively, and regulates CtIP recruitment to sites of DNA damage. We also find that USP4 autodeubiquitylation is essential for its HR functions. Collectively, our findings identify USP4 as a key regulator of DNA DSB end resection.

Abstract
The sorption behavior of chlorantraniliprole (CAP) by biochar and effect of soil extracts on sorptivity in soil-biochar systems were examined. The results showed that biochar amendment could enhance the sorption of CAP in soils. The values of K F increased significantly when the soils were amended with 0.5 % BC850, which were from 1.54 to 196.5. The indigenous sorptivity of biochar was suppressed after it was applied to the soils. The degree of biochar sorptivity attenuation in different soil-biochar systems varied with the properties of soil water soluble matters. Sorption of CAP by biochar from the five soil extracts was found to be lower than that from a CaCl2 solution. The calculated K d values at C w of 0.01 mg kg(-1) for biochar sorption of CAP from CaCl2 solution were 21.4-26.6 times of that from soil extracts. Aging of biochar in soil extract reduced CAP sorption by up to 85 %.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aims of this study were to investigate the influence of home smoking restriction (HSR) and the modified effect of parental smoking on smoking initiation among adolescents. DESIGN Prospective Cohort Study. SETTING Junior high school in Keelung City, Taiwan. PARTICIPANTS This study collected and evaluated primary data from the Adolescent Smoking and Other Health-Related Behaviour Survey conducted in Keelung City, which aimed to investigate smoking and health-related behaviours in junior high school students (2008-2009). Data on students free of smoking in 2008 and following them until 2009 (n=901) to ascertain whether they had started smoking were analysed with logistic regression mode to examine the proposed postulates. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE The outcome variable was smoking initiation, which was defined as smoking status (yes/no) in the 2009 follow-up questionnaire. The main independent variable was HSR obtained from an adolescent self-reported questionnaire. Information on parental smoking was measured by adolescents self-reporting the smoking behaviour of their father and mother. RESULTS The rate of HSR was 29.79% among 7th grade adolescents. The effect of HSR on smoking initiation in adolescents was statistically significantly modified by paternal smoking (p=0.04) but not by maternal smoking (p=0.54). The effect of HSR on smoking initiation was small for fathers with the habit of smoking (OR=0.89, 95% CI (0.42 to 1.88)), but the corresponding effect size was 3.2-fold (OR=2.84, 95% CI 1.19 to 6.81) for fathers without the habit of smoking. CONCLUSIONS Paternal smoking behaviour may play an interactive role with HSR in preventing smoking initiation among Taiwanese adolescents.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the diagnostic value of the R-way colposcopic evaluation system (R-way system) in cervical cancer screening. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between August 2013 and August 2014, a total of 1,059 cases referred to colposcopy in Peking University First Hospital were studied using both the R-way system and conventional colposcopy. Our study evaluated and compared the diagnostic ability of the two methods in detecting high-grade lesions and cervical cancer (hereinafter called CIN2+). Evaluation indicators including sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), Youden index and the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) were calculated. RESULTS The R-way system had a slightly lower specificity (94.5%) than conventional colposcopy (96.0%) for CIN2+ detection (P=0.181). However, the sensitivity (77.8%) was significantly higher than with the conventional colposcopic method (46.6%) (χ2=64.351, P<0.001). In addition, the AUC of the ROC for CIN2+ detection using the R-way system (0.839) was larger than that with conventional colposcopy (0.731) (Z=4.348, P<0.001). If preliminary result had been drawn from cervical exfoliated cytology before colposcopy referral, combination of the R-way system with cytology could increase the sensitivity to 93.9% for CIN2+ detection (excluding ASCUS\LSIL), confirmed by multipoint biopsy or ECC. CONCLUSIONS The diagnostic value of the R-way evaluation system is higher than that of conventional colposcopic evaluation in cervical cancer screening. Moreover, taking the ease of use and standardized quality control management into account, the R-way system is highly preferable.

Abstract
Oils, organic solvents, dyes, and heavy metal ions are primary pollutants in water resources. Currently, no sorbent material can effectively remove these types of pollutants simultaneously. Here we report a perfluorous conjugated microporous polymer with superhydrophobicity and a large surface area, which exhibits outstanding adsorption capacities, kinetics, and recyclability for a wide range of organic solvents, oils, dyes, and heavy metal ions. The adsorption capacities of this polymer, 1376.7 mg g−1 for Congo red, 808.2 mg g−1 for Pb(II) and 303.2 mg g−1 for As(V), are higher than the adsorption capacities of any previously described porous materials. Our theoretical calculation reveals that the superior properties of this polymer are due to fluorination and triple bonds within the polymer. A benchmark experiment indicates that this polymer can efficiently remove these pollutants simultaneously. Application of this polymer may lead to the development of next-generation reusable and portable water purification appliances.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Many pathways have been reported involving the effect of hydrogen-rich saline on protecting skin flap partial necrosis induced by the inflammation of ischemia/reperfusion injury. This study focused on the influence of hydrogen-rich saline treatment on apoptosis pathway of ASK-1/JNK and Bcl-2/Bax radio in I/R injury of skin flaps. METHODS Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups. Group 1 was sham surgery group, Group 2 and 3 were ischemia/reperfusion surgery treated with physiological saline and hydrogen-rich saline respectively. Blood perfusion of flap was measured by Laser doppler flowmeters. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was used to observe morphological changes. Early apoptosis in skin flap was observed through TUNEL staining and presented as the percentage of TUNEL-positive cells of total cells. pASK-1, pJNK, Bcl-2 and Bax were examined by immunodetection. In addition Bcl-2, Bax and caspase-3 were detected by qPCR. Caspase-3 activity was also measured. RESULTS Compared to the Group 2, tissues from the group 3 were observed with a high expression of Bcl-2 and a low expression of pASK-1, pJNK, and Bax, a larger survival area and a high level of blood perfusion. Hydrogen-rich saline ameliorated inflammatory infiltration and decreased cell apoptosis. CONCLUSION The results indicate that hydrogen-rich saline could ameliorate ischemia/reperfusion injury and improve flap survival rate by inhibiting the apoptosis factor and, at the same time, promoting the expression of anti-apoptosis factor.

Abstract
Background Regorafenib, a multi-kinase inhibitor, is used in the treatment of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer refractory to standard therapy. However, this benefit was limited to 1.4 months improvement in overall survival, with more than half of patients experiencing grade 3 to 4 adverse events. We aim to elucidate the pharmacodynamic effects of regorafenib in metastatic colorectal cancer and discover potential biomarkers that may predict clinical benefit. Methods Patients with metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma refractory to standard therapy with tumours amenable to biopsy were eligible for the study. Regorafenib was administered orally at 160 mg daily for 3 out of 4 weeks with tumour assessment every 2 cycles. Metabolic response was assessed by FDG PET-CT scans (pre-treatment and day 15); paired tumour biopsies (pre-treatment and day 21 post-treatment) were sampled for immunohistochemistry and proteomic profiling analyses. Plasma circulating cell free DNA was quantified serially before and after treatment. Results There were 2(6%) partial responses out of 35 patients, and 8(23%) patients had stable disease for more than 7 months. Adverse event profile was similar to reported data. Recurrent somatic mutations in K-RAS, PIK3CA and BRAF were detected in plasma circulating cell free DNA in 14 patients; some mutations were not found in archival tumour. Total plasma circulating cell free DNA inversely correlated with progression free survival (PFS), and presence of KRAS mutations associated with shorter PFS. Immunohistochemistry of pre- and post- treatment biopsies showed majority of patients had downregulation of phosphorylated-VEGFR2, podoplanin, phosphorylated-AKT, Ki-67 and upregulation of the MEK-ERK axis, phosphorylated-C-MET, phosphorylated-SRC, phosphorylated-STAT3 and phosphorylated-JUN. Proteomic analysis of fine needle tumour aspirates showed down-regulation of PI3K was associated with longer PFS. Conclusion Plasma circulating cell free DNA may yield potential predictive biomarkers of regorafenib treatment. Downregulation of the PI3K-AKT axis may be an important predictor of clinical benefit. Abstract
Esophageal cancer is a common malignant tumor occurring in human esophageal epithelial tissue. The primary purpose of this paper was to define the effects of β-carotene and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, alone and in combination, on cell proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis of human esophageal cancer EC9706 cells. Treatment with different concentrations of β-carotene and/or 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3. MTT assay showed that β-carotene and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 significantly inhibited proliferation of EC9706 cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Further studies also demonstrated that β-carotene alone or 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 alone caused a marked increase on the induction of apoptosis in EC9706 cells. The percentage of G0/G1-phase cells significantly increased on addition of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 alone, but there were no significant changes with β-carotene alone. These two agents in combination synergistically inhibited cell growth and induced apoptosis. Therefore, our results indicate that β-carotene and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 in combination may provide a novel strategy for preventing and treating esophageal cancer.

Abstract
Zinc-coordinated conjugated microporous polymers (Zn-CMPs), prepared by linking salen zinc and 1,3,5-triethynylbenzene, exhibit extraordinary activities (turnover frequencies of up to 11600 h(-1) ), broad substrate scope, and group tolerance for the synthesis of functional organic carbonates by coupling epoxides with CO2 at 120 °C and 3.0 MPa without the use of additional solvents. The catalytic activity of Zn-CMP is comparable to those of homogeneous catalysts and superior to those of other heterogeneous catalysts. This catalyst could be reused more than ten times without a significant decrease in performance.

Abstract
We propose a catalytic mechanism for the cycloaddition of epoxide to carbon dioxide catalyzed by salen-M (M = Co, Zn, Al) based on density functional theory calculations. The catalytic reaction follows a single-site mechanism rather than a bimetallic-site mechanism, which includes four steps: epoxide adsorption by salen-M, ring opening of epoxide, CO2 insertion, and intramolecular rearrangement. Our calculation results showed that the highest reaction barrier for salen-Co catalyst is only 9.94 kcal/mol, which is lower than that of salen-Al (14.38 kcal/mol) and salen-Zn (13.05 kcal/mol). The results indicate that the reaction catalyzed by salen-Al, salen-Co, or salen-Zn can occur at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, which is in agreement with experimental results. The mechanism can be used for the design of a novel catalyst for this reaction.

Abstract
Two experiments were conducted to determine the digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) contents of corn gluten feed (CGF) for finishing pigs and to develop equations predicting the DE and ME content from the chemical composition of the CGF samples, as well as validate the accuracy of the prediction equations. In Exp. 1, ten CGF samples from seven provinces of China were collected and fed to 66 finishing barrows (Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire) with an initial body weight (BW) of 51.9±5.5 kg. The pigs were assigned to 11 diets comprising one basal diet and 10 CGF test diets with six pigs fed each diet. The basal diet contained corn (76%), dehulled soybean meal (21%) and premix (3%). The ten test diets were formulated by substituting 25% of the corn and dehulled soybean meal with CGF and contained corn (57%), dehulled soybean meal (15.75%), CGF (24.25%) and premix (3%). In Exp. 2, two additional CGF sources were collected as validation samples to test the accuracy of the prediction equations. In this experiment, 18 barrows (Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire) with an initial BW of 61.1±4.0 kg were randomly allotted to be fed either the basal diet or two CGF containing diets which had a similar composition as used in Exp. 1. The DE and ME of CGF ranged from 10.37 to 12.85 MJ/kg of dry matter (DM) and 9.53 to 12.49 MJ/kg of DM, respectively. Through stepwise regression analysis, several prediction equations of DE and ME were generated. The best fit equations were: DE, MJ/kg of DM = 18.30-0.13 neutral detergent fiber-0.22 ether extract, with R(2) = 0.95, residual standard deviation (RSD) = 0.21 and p<0.01; and ME, MJ/kg of DM = 12.82+0.11 Starch-0.26 acid detergent fiber, with R(2) = 0.94, RSD = 0.20 and p<0.01. These results indicate that the DE and ME content of CGF varied substantially but the DE and ME for finishing pigs can be accurately predicted from equations based on nutritional analysis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Effects of ginsenoside Rb1, Rg1 and Re on neurotrophic factor signal transduction pathway using liposome-mediated transfection of eukaryotic cells approach. METHOD The injury model was established by treating SH-SY5Y cells with 0.6 mmol x L(-1) of corticosterone (CORT) by 24 h. SH-SY5Y cell were pretreated with CORT for 30 min followed by co-treated with 120,60 and 20 micromol x L(-1) of Rb1, 120, 80 and 40 micromol x L(-1) of Rg1 and 120, 80 and 40 micromol x L(-1) of Re for 24 h. Cells viability was determined by Cell Counting Kit (CCK) assay. CREB expressing Luciferase reporter gene was constructed and transfected with plasmid containing hRaf, hcAMP, hAkt, hCaMK gene into human embryonic kidney (HEK293) cells using liposornal transfection reagent lipofection 2000. The expression of CREB before and after it addion of Rb1, Rg1 and Re was examined by Luc assay system and Western blotting. RESULT Compared with normal control group, CORT significantly decreased the viability of SH-SY5Y cells to 67.21% (P < 0.01). CCK results show that Rb1 (60 micromol x L(-1)), Rg1 (80 micromol x L(-1)) and Re (80 micromol x L(-1)) on SH-SY5Y cells have significant protective effect (P < 0.01). Lucassay and Western blotting results show that the gene and protein levels of CREB increased significantly through the pathway of Raf and Akt with Rb1 and Rg1 (P < 0.01), Re can increase significantly the gene and protein levels of CREB through the pathway of Raf and CaMK II. CONCLUSION Rb1, Rg1 and Re protects SH-SY5Y cells from CORT-induced damage and the neuroprotective mechanism may be associated with the Raf-CREB, Akt-CREB and CaMK II -CREB pathways.

Abstract
Successful implantation involves three distinct processes, namely the embryo apposition, attachment, and penetration through the luminal epithelium of the endometrium to establish a vascular link to the mother. After penetration, stromal cells underlying the epithelium differentiate and surround the embryo to form the embryo implantation barrier, which blocks the passage of harmful substances to the embryo. Many ion/water channel proteins were found to be involved in the process of embryo implantation. First, ion/water channel proteins play their classical role in establishing a resting membrane potential, shaping action potentials and other electrical signals by gating the flow of ions across the cell membrane. Second, most of ion/water channel proteins are regulated by steroid hormone (estrogen or progesterone), which may have important implications to the embryo implantation. Last but not least, these proteins do not limit themselves as pure channels but also function as an initiator of a series of consequences once activated by their ligand/stimulator. Herein, we discuss these new insights in recent years about the contribution of ion/water channels to the embryo implantation barrier construction during early pregnancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The clinicopathologic characteristics of multiple ossifying fibroma (OF) are unclear due to the condition's rarity, making diagnosis challenging. Sporadic multiple OFs must be distinguished from hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumour syndrome (HPT-JT) related OF and other fibro-osseous lesions. METHODS Multiple OF cases were identified from ossifying fibroma cases. Clinical data including age, sex, anatomic site, radiographic features, clinical impression, treatment and available follow-up data as well as serum calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) were recorded. GNAS and HRPT2 genetic mutations were examined in the two present cases. Case reports of sporadic multiple ossifying fibroma and HPT-JT-related OF were also reviewed. RESULTS The two present cases were confirmed as sporadic multiple OF, with no genetic GNAS and HRPT2 mutations found. The incidence of sporadic multiple ossifying fibroma was 2.0% (2/102). The total 18 sporadic multiform OF cases were characterized as followed: 13 (72.2%) female; 5 (27.8%) male; mean age 28.6 years; 2/16 (11.1%) cases only in the mandible; 4/18 (22.2%) cases only in the maxilla; and 12/18 (66.7%) cases in both the maxilla and mandible. Radiographically, the lesions were radiolucent in 5/18 (27.8%) cases and mixed density in 13/18 (72.2%) cases. Along with 24 cases of HPT-JT related OF were reviewed, sixteen (66.7%) patients were diagnosed with a single lesion, and 8 patients (33.3%) were diagnosed with multiple jaw lesions. CONCLUSIONS Sporadic multiple OFs are very rare, but must be distinguished from HPT-JT related OF. We strongly recommend that patients diagnosed with multiple ossifying fibromas receive serum PTH testing and mutation screening of HRPT2. Abstract
Published data on the association between interleukin (IL)-18 gene polymorphisms (-137 C/G, -607 A/C) and type 1 diabetes (T1D) risk are inconclusive. To obtain a more precise estimation of the association between the IL-18 gene polymorphisms and T1D, a meta-analysis was performed. A total of 11 studies including 5,945 cases and 6,404 controls were included in the analysis of the association between -137 C/G and T1D risk. No significant association between -137 C/G and T1D risk was observed in the total population [C vs. G: odds ratio (OR)=1.02, 95% confidence interval (CI)=0.87-1.20; CC + CG vs. GG: OR=1.05, 95% CI=0.87-1.25; CC vs. CG + GG: OR=0.96, 95% CI=0.68-1.36]. No significant association was identified in the stratified analysis for all the genetic models in the European population. Concerning -607 A/C, 10 studies involving 3,048 patients and 3,377 controls were included in this meta-analysis. When all the studies were pooled, the results showed no evidence for a significant association between IL-18 -607 A/C polymorphism and T1D risk (A vs. C: OR=0.93, 95% CI=0.81-1.06; AA + AC vs. CC: OR=0.99, 95% CI=0.89-1.10; AA vs. AC + CC: OR=0.81, 95% CI=0.60-1.09). In addition, similar results were obtained in the subgroup analysis based on ethnicity. In summary, the present meta-analysis suggests a lack of association between the two polymorphisms (-137 C/G, -607 A/C) in the IL-18 gene and T1D. Due to the limitation of the number of the studies, the conclusions drawn should be considered with caution. Larger scale primary studies are required to evaluate the association between IL-18 gene polymorphisms and T1D.

Abstract
Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain 2 (NOD2) is one of the most prominent member of the NOD-like receptors protein family that functions as intracellular pattern recognition receptors. Numerous studies have suggested the importance of NOD2 in defensing against microbial infections, regulation of the inflammatory process. It is shown that NOD2 contributes to the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases, such as Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis. The aim of this study is to summarize our current understandings of NOD2 function and the role of NOD2 in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The following databases were searched: Pubmed, EMBASE and Web of Science for English-language sources, using the terms "lupus," "systemic lupus erythematosus," ''SLE," "immunity," "inflammatory" and "NOD2." Emerging data evidences that NOD2 has important biological effects in autoimmunity and inflammatory and might take part in the pathogenesis of SLE. Studies exploring the relationship between NOD2 and SLE are very limited. Whether NOD2 could be a potentially valuable therapeutic target for treatment for SLE, more understanding of the mechanism of NOD2 is needed in the future in SLE.

Abstract
This Paper reports the first examples of O-P-O bridged Mn2(salen)2 (salen = N,N'-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine) chain compounds, namely, [Mn2(salen)2(2-FC6H4PO3H)](ClO4)·1/2CH3OH (1) and [Mn2(salen)2(4-FC6H4PO3H)](ClO4) (2). The phosphonate ligands adopt a syn-anti bidentate bridging mode in 1 and a syn-syn bidentate bridging mode in 2, originated from the isomeric phosphonate ligands. The different bridging modes cause a significant change in the Mn-O···O-Mn torsion angle over the O-P-O bridge, which are 96.6 and 1.9° for 1 and 2, respectively. As a result, the antiferromagnetic (AF) exchange couplings mediated through the O-P-O pathway are extremely weak in 1, and the overall magnetic behaviors are dominated by the Mn2(salen)2 moieties. Single-molecule magnetic behavior is observed in 1. For compound 2, the AF interaction over the O-P-O bridge is much stronger. The coexistence of metamagnetism and single-chain magnetic behavior is observed for 2.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Producing smart offspring is an important fitness trait; individuals with enhanced cognitive ability should be more adept at responding to complex environmental demands. Cognitive ability can be influenced by conditions experienced during embryonic development. Although oxygen is necessary for embryonic development, availability can be limited within the nest environment because of substrate type, hydric conditions, and temperature. We do not yet understand, however, whether oxygen availability during embryonic development influences offspring fitness, especially cognitive ability. To address this question we incubated Mongolian Racerunner lizard (Eremias argus) eggs under hypoxic (12% O2), normoxic (21% O2), and hyperoxic conditions (30% O2). RESULTS Hypoxia not only slowed hatching time, but also resulted in constrained cognitive ability relative to hatchlings experiencing normoxic or hyperoxic incubation conditions. Oxygen did not influence hatching success, body size or sprint speed of hatchlings. CONCLUSIONS Oxygen availability during embryonic development has important influences on incubation duration and cognitive ability of hatchling lizards. This study provides the first evidence that oxygen availability during embryonic development can modify cognitive ability of oviparous reptiles.

Abstract
As an important parameter of the global energy balance, climate, hydrological and ecological model, ice directly affects the energy balance of the earth-atmosphere system, weather and climate. It is of great significance to use the thermal infrared polarization technology to study ice thermal radiation. For the ice monitoring and the impact of global climate change on the ice, studies on ice thermal radiation polarization characteristics were conducted based on the wavelength, detection angle and azimuth angle. The results show that the wavelength has an obvious impact on the ice thermal radiation polarization properties. The polarized radiance of four bands shows that L(CH1) > L(CH3) > L(CH4) > L(CH2) while the polarization brightness temperature shows that T(CH4) > T(CH1) > TCH2 > TCH3. It's better to use the brightness temperature of the third channel than the radiance to study the thermal radiation polarization. The detection angle affects the ice thermal radiation polarization characteristics greatly and there are some differences between the polarization angles. The brightness temperature of ice is the lowest in the detection angle of 10 degrees and the polarization angle of 30 degrees, which are non-accidental factors. These was closely related to ice physical and chemical properties. The degree of ice polarization performance shows that P0 < P40 <P30 < P50 < P10 < P20 and is affected by the detection angle, which is directly related to the differences in the brightness temperature at different polarization angles. The degree of polarization changes with the azimuth angles and plays an important role in ice physical and chemical characteristics monitoring. The impact of azimuth angle on the ice thermal radiation polarization characteristics was not significant. And it is affected by the roughness of the surface, organizational structure and other factors which are direct results of ice emitted radiation at different azimuth angles.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to compare the contents of five types of anthraquinones which mainly includes chrysophanol, physcion, emodin, rhein and physcion and phenolic acids in ten different processed products from Rheum officinale, and to investigate the effect of different initial processing method on the contents of anthraquinones and phenolic acids. Principal component analysis (PCA) was carried out by SPSS software to evaluate the quality of different processed products from Rh. officinale. In conclusion, the contents of anthraquinones in different processed products from Rh. officinale assume the certain regularity. Whether fresh-cut Rheum officinale Bail and how to dry it are derectly effect the contents of anthraquinones and phenolic compounds. The content of anthraquinones in rheum officinale of drying is obviously higher than smudging, and was more abundant in branch root than tap roots. Rh. officinale of drying which growed in Fengjie gained the highest score in PCA. Meanwhile, the procedure of wetting also help to increase the content of anthraquinones and decrease the content of phenolic acids.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumour (CEOT) is a rare benign odontogenic tumour, and its Langerhans cell variant is even rarer. Due to the limited number of recorded cases, the biological behaviour and histogenesis of the Langerhans cell variant of CEOT are not yet fully understood. Thus, the correlation between conventional CEOT and the Langerhans cell variant remains to be clarified. MATERIAL (CASES) Eight cases of CEOT including 2 cases of Langerhans cell variant were clinicopathologically studied and the English language literature was reviewed. Langerhans cells were detected in 2 cases of conventional CEOT and in 2 cases of Langerhans cell variant by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS AND FINDINGS In the 6 cases of conventional CEOT, 5 tumours involved the premolar and molar region and the anterior portion of the mandible was affected in 1 case. Four patients were followed for 2-7 years and did not show any sign of recurrence. A review of the English language literature revealed 5 cases; combined with the present 2 new cases, a total of 7 cases of Langerhans cell variant of CEOT were collected. The patients were all Asian. Six tumours occurred in the maxilla and 1 in mandible; all mainly involved the anterior region of the jaws. Five patients were followed for 2-10 years and did not show any evidence of recurrence. Langerhans cells can be seen in both the conventional and the Langerhans cell variant of CEOT; however, increased numbers of Langerhans cells are seen in the latter. CONCLUSIONS Although the Langerhans cell variant of CEOT is a rare entity and behaves similarly to the conventional type, it could show unique clinical and histologic features that may pose problems for differential diagnosis. Abstract
Paeoniflorin (PF) extracted from the root of Paeonia lactiflora pall, displays anti-inflammation properties in several animal models. Adhesion molecules are important for the recruitment of leucocyte to the vessel wall and involved in the pathogenesis of various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Herein, we investigate the effects of PF on adhesion molecule expression in a mouse model of cutaneous Arthus reaction and cultured human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HDMECs). We showed that PF significantly ameliorated the immune complex (IC) induced vascular damage, leucocyte infiltrates and adhesion molecules expression. Furthermore, PF markedly blocked tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)-induced E-selectin and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expression in HDMECs at both mRNA and protein levels. PF also suppressed TNF-α-induced adhesion of polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMNs) to HDMECs. Finally, western blot data revealed that PF can inhibit the phosphorylation of p38, JNK in TNF-α-treated HDMECs. These data suggest that PF, as an anti-inflammatory agent, can downregulate adhesion molecules expression. PF may be a candidate medicine for the treatment of IC-induced inflammatory response.

Abstract
An asymmetrical Fabry-Perot interferometric (AFPI) force sensor is fabricated based on a narrowband reflection of low-reflectivity fiber Bragg grating (LR-FBG) and a broadband Fresnel reflection of the cleaved fiber end. The AFPI sensor includes a section of microfiber made by tapering and it achieves a force sensitivity of 0.221 pm/μN with a tapered microfiber of 40 mm length and 6.1 μm waist diameter. Compared with similar AFPI structure in 125 μm-diameter single mode fiber, the force sensitivity of the microfiber AFPI structure is greatly enhanced due to its smaller diameter and can be optimized for different force scales by controlling the diameter. The fabrication process of the AFPI sensor is simple and cost-effective. The AFPI sensor has better multiplexing capacity than conventional extrinsic fiber-optic Fabry-Perot sensors, while it also release the requirement on the wavelength matching of the FBG-pair-based FPI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Xanthoceras sorbifolia Bunge is a valuable oilseed tree that has linoleic acid-rich seed oil. Microsomal oleate desaturase (FAD2; EC 1.3.1.35) is responsible for the conversion of oleic acid to linoleic acid during fatty acid synthesis. In this study, XsFAD2 was cloned from developing embryos of X. sorbifolia. RESULTS XsFAD2 contained three histidine boxes, a C-terminal endoplasmic reticulum retrieval motif, and five putative transmembrane domains representing the characteristics of membrane-bound fatty acid desaturase. XsFAD2 expression in yeast cells resulted in linoleic acid (18:2) and palmitolinoleic acid (16:2) production, confirming the biological activity of the enzyme encoded by XsFAD2. These fatty acids are not normally present in wild-type yeast. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that XsFAD2 is located in a subgroup of FAD2 enzymes specifically or highly expressed in developing seeds. The expression level of XsFAD2 in seeds was much higher than those in leaves and petals. Furthermore, XsFAD2 expression pattern correlated well with linoleic acid accumulated in seeds. CONCLUSION Results suggested that XsFAD2 is responsible for the high linoleic acid content in X. sorbifolia seed oil. This study provides insight on the regulation mechanism of fatty acid synthesis in X. sorbifolia seeds and a valuable gene for improving the oil quality in oilseed trees.

Abstract
As an essential member of the HSP70 family, heat shock cognate 70 (Hsc70) is a constitutively expressed molecular chaperone involved in protein metabolism. In this paper, turbot Hsc70 was cloned and the expression profile was also analyzed. The full-length cDNA of the turbot Hsc70 was 2,292 bp in length, including a 113-bp 5' UTR, a 223-bp 3' UTR and a 1,956-bp open reading frame coding a protein with 651 amino acid residues. Comparison of amino acid sequence revealed the existence of three classical HSP70 family signature motifs, a signature nonapeptide and one repeat of tetrapeptide in turbot Hsc70. The turbot Hsc70-deduced amino acids sequence exhibited 75.4-96.8 % homology with Hsp70s/Hsc70s of 24 other known sequences. In particular, the strongest homology was found with the cognate members of Hsc70 subfamily and the highest identity was found with Japanese flounder Hsc70. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR revealed that turbot Hsc70 transcripts were stably expressed in all tested tissues under normal physiological condition, while the expression levels also increased (~1.5-fold to ~threefold) after heat shock and bacterial infection. In addition, Hsc70 transcripts were detected throughout embryonic development and in turbot embryonic cell line (TEC) in the absence of any stress. Meanwhile, it was also heat inducible, but not cold inducible in TEC. These results suggest that Hsc70 gene may be involved in embryogenesis and cellular protection events under normal and stress condition.

Abstract
The fragmentation pathways of two taxanes drugs have been studied in positive ion mode by Q-TOF with the advantages of high mass accuracy and high resolution analysis. The [M+H] + ions were observed by ESI-MS, from which the molecular weights were obtained. Using the protonated pseudo-molecular ions [M+H]+ as internal reference compounds, the accurate mass and element composition of the fragment ions were determined. The collision induced dissociation (CID) data of the [M+H] ions provided fragmentation pathways of related compounds. Results showed that the major cleavage pathways of paclitaxel and docetaxel were the same that the cleavage of C-O bond between the side chain and taxol skeleton easily occurred, then stripping of the functional groups on the parent ring. Some common fragments were formed, such as m/z 105.033 7, 291.137 3, 309.148 5, 327.159 7, 387.181 2 and 509.217 4, which would provide a basis for future qualitative and quantitative analysis of taxanes in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract
Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is a CXC chemokine that plays key regulatory roles in the immune and inflammatory responses implicated in many human diseases. In this study, we identified and characterized an IL-8 homologue from the grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idellus. A sequence alignment of the full-length cDNA and genomic DNA showed that the exon/intron organization of grass carp IL-8 (gcIL-8) is identical to those of other known CXC chemokine genes. A multiple alignment analysis showed that gcIL-8 is an ELR(-)CXC chemokine, and its deduced amino acid sequence shares 81% and 36% identity with common carp IL-8s L1 (GenBank ID: ABE47600) and L2 (GenBank ID: AB470924), respectively, suggesting that it belongs to the lineage 1 group of fish IL-8 proteins. On a phylogenetic tree, gcIL-8 clustered with other teleost IL-8 proteins to form a fish-specific clade, clearly distinct from those of bird, mammal, and amphibian proteins. Real-time quantitative PCR analysis indicated that gcIL-8 is differentially expressed in various tissues under normal conditions and that the expression of gcIL-8 mRNA in immune-related tissues is clearly upregulated by Aeromonas hydrophila infection. To explore the biological effects of gcIL-8, we produced a recombinant protein, rgcIL-8, in a prokaryotic expression system. Purified rgcIL-8 was confirmed to be chemoattractive for head kidney neutrophils and mononuclear leukocytes in vitro. Our histopathological study also revealed that rgcIL-8 exerts proinflammatory effects by inducing neutrophil infiltration and erythrocyte extravasation. Overall, these results suggest that IL-8 is crucially involved in the inflammatory responses of fish.

Abstract
Previous epidemiological studies have demonstrated a correlation between fumonisin B1 (FB1) and human esophageal cancer in China, Iran and South Africa. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of FB1 on the proliferation, cell-cycle and apoptosis of normal human esophageal epithelial cells (HEECs) and to explore the molecular mechanisms of these effects. The proliferation of HEECs treated with FB1 was assessed using a colorimetric assay, while analyses of the cell cycle and apoptosis were performed using flow cytometry and the measurement of the protein expressions of genes associated with the cell cycle was conducted using western blotting. The results showed that FB1 stimulated the proliferation of HEECs, decreased the percentage of cells in the G0/G1 phase and reduced apoptosis. The western blotting results showed that FB1 significantly increased the protein expression of cyclin D1 and significantly decreased the protein expression of cyclin E, p21 and p27. The results indicated that FB1 stimulated the proliferation of HEECs by affecting the cell cycle and apoptosis. This mechanism was associated with changes in cyclin D1, cyclin E, p21 and p27 expression.

Abstract
Three research sites of subsidence waters, including Panji (PJ), Guqiao (GQ) and Xieqiao (XQ) located in the Huainan "Panxie" Mine Area have been selected to address their phosphorus (P) adsorption behavior in the sediments considering the site-specific regional water chemistry. The P isothermal adsorption was measured in pure water and four different types of ion solutions, prepared through additions of sodium chloride (NaCl), calcium chloride (CaCl2), sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), and a mixture of sodium bicarbonate and calcium chloride (NaHCO3 + CaCI2). The first four settings were studied to analyze the individual impact of each solution on P adsorption while the last one was to study their combined effect. In general, Ca2 + could enhance P adsorption on sediment surfaces while weakly alkaline conditions caused by bicarbonates were unfavorable for its adsorption. As a comprehensive effect, the positive effect of the former was greater than the negative effect of the latter. The zero equilibrium phosphorus concentrations (EPC) in the three sites were 0. 059, 0. 032 and 0. 040 mg.L-1, respectively, showing trends of P releasing to the overlying water column. The site of PJ showed greater P releasing potential than those at the GQ and XQ sites, probably due to its higher nutrient level. Overall, P releasing risks in the researched sediments are weaker than those in eutrophic lakes, while they are very similar to lakes with lower trophic levels, because of their unique sedimentary environments from inundated agricultural soils.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION Do any mutations in growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF9) have a role in diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) in young women? SUMMARY ANSWER The GDF9 p.R146C mutation may be a source of DOR in some young women. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY DOR affects 10% of women under 37 years of age and is associated with accelerated expenditure of follicles. GDF9 is an oocyte-secreted factor that plays a critical role in follicular development and female fertility. Several GDF9 variants have been linked to ovarian dysfunction. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This case-control study included 139 women with DOR and 152 controls aged under 37 years. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS All women were recruited in a Chinese tertiary center and underwent DNA sequencing of GDF9 gene. We then determined the molecular and biological properties of mutant GDF9 proteins using protein expression, structural prediction and functional analyses. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE We identified two mutations in the proregion of GDF9 gene: c.169T > G (p.D57Y) and c.436T > C (p.R146C). The p.R146C mutation was found in three women with DOR but was absent in the control population. This mutation was also associated with significant reductions in GDF9 mature protein secretion in cultured cells. Functional studies with human granulosa cells (GCs) showed that the p.R146C mutation reduced the abilities of GDF9 to stimulate GC proliferation and to activate the Smad2 pathway. Protein structure modeling predicted that p.R146C disrupted an α-helix in GDF9 protein. In contrast with p.R146C, the p.D57Y mutation, found in both the DOR and control groups (6 versus 2), had no obvious deleterious effects. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Larger studies in varying populations may validate the role of GDF9 mutation in young women with DOR. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS These results may provide new insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms of early-onset DOR.

Abstract
Luteolin is a plant flavonoid which exhibits anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects. However, the antiproliferative potential of luteolin is not fully understood. In this study, we investigated the effect of luteolin on cell cycling and apoptosis in human esophageal squamous carcinoma cell line Eca109 cells. MTT assays showed that luteolin had obvious cytotoxicity on Eca109 with an IC50 of 70.7±1.72 μM at 24 h. Luteolin arrested cell cycle progression in the G0/G1 phase and prevented entry into S phase in a dose- and time-dependent manner. as assessed by FCM. Luteolin induced apoptosis of Eca109 cells was demonstrated by AO/EB staining assay and annexin V-FITC/PI staining. Moreover, luteolin downregulated the expression of cyclin D1, survivin and c-myc, and it also upregulated the expression of p53, in line with the fact that luteolin was able to inhibit Eca109 cell proliferation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The clinical value of quantitative hepatitis B surface antigen (qHBsAg) titre in patients taking nucleotide/nucleoside analogues (NAs) is still controversial. This study aims to investigate the dynamic changes of qHBsAg titres and their significance for predicting virological response (VR) and serological response (SR) to long-term entecavir (ETV) treatment. METHODS A total of 48 ETV-naive patients were enrolled and followed prospectively for 4 years, 32 of whom were hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-positive at baseline. Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), qualitative HBV serological markers and HBV DNA were detected; qHBsAg titres were measured using Elecsys(®) HBsAg II Quant Assay (Roche Diagnostics, Penzberg, Germany). RESULTS The mean baseline HBV DNA and qHBsAg were 7.51 log10 copies/ml and 3.78 log10 IU/ml, respectively. After 48 months of ETV treatment, the rates of VR (<291 copies/ml), ALT normalization and SR (HBeAg/antibody to HBeAg [anti-HBe]) were 89.6% (43/48), 89.6% (43/48) and 34.4% (11/32), respectively. There was a decrease in qHBsAg titres from baseline to month 48, ranging from 3.78 to 3.10 log10 IU/ml. The greatest decrease of qHBsAg was observed in the first 3 months of treatment (0.47 log10 IU/ml), which was significantly correlated with corresponding HBV DNA decreases (3.89 log10 copies/ml; P=0.032). By using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, qHBsAg titres at baseline (area under the curve [AUROC]=0.647) and 3 months after treatment (AUROC=0.586) had poor power in predicting 48-month VR; qHBsAg titres at baseline (AUROC=0.779) and 3 months after ETV treatment (AUROC=0.658) had poor power in predicting 48-month SR in patients who were HBeAg-positive at baseline. Additionally, the decrease of qHBsAg in the first 3 months of treatment also had poor power in predicting either 48 month VR or SR. CONCLUSIONS ETV is efficacious in NA-naive patients, and qHBsAg titres decreased significantly in the first 3 months of ETV treatment. However, qHBsAg titre was not a good predictor of 4-year VR and HBeAg/anti-HBe SR in this cohort.

Abstract
Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma (EAH) is a rare tumoral lesion that consists of vascular and eccrine malformation and often occurs in the distal extremities of children. Although EAH is benign, a therapeutic excision may be required for symptomatic or cosmetic considerations. We hereby report a typical case of EAH presenting as a painful and rapidly growing plaque on the right thigh. The associated symptoms of pain, hyperhidrosis and local hypertrichosis caused walking difficulties until the patient was cured by two excisional surgeries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Extranodal natural killer/T-cell (NK/T cell) lymphoma, nasal-type, is a rare lymphoma. Skin is the second most common site of involvement after the nasal cavity/nasalpharynx. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinicopathologic features, immunophenotype, T cell receptor (TCR) gene rearrangement, the association with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and p53 gene mutations of the lymphoma. METHODS The clinicopathologic analysis, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization for EBER1/2, TCR gene rearrangement by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), mutations of p53 gene analyzed by PCR and sequence analysis were employed in this study. RESULTS In the 19 cases, the tumor primarily involved the dermis and subcutaneous layer. Immunohistochemical staining showed that most of the cases expressed CD45RO, CD56, CD3ε, TIA-1 and GrB. Three cases were positive for CD3 and two cases were positive for CD30. Monoclonal TCRγ gene rearrangement was found in 7 of 18 cases. The positive rate of EBER1/2 was 100%. No p53 gene mutation was detected on the exon 4 - 9 in the 18 cases. Fifteen cases showed Pro (proline)/Arg (arginine) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on the exon 4 at codon 72. The expression of p53 protein was 72% (13/18) immunohistochemically. CONCLUSIONS Cutaneous NK/T-cell lymphoma is a rare but highly aggressive lymphoma with poor prognosis. No p53 gene mutation was detected on the exon 4 - 9, and Pro/Arg SNPs on p53 codon 72 were detected in the cutaneous NK/T-cell lymphoma. The overexpression of p53 protein may not be the result of p53 gene mutation.
