Abstract
D2 blockade has been implicated in having a central role in antipsychotic response. However, treatment refractoriness, in spite of complete D2 blockade, as well as the efficacy of clozapine (CLZ) in a portion of this patient population, indicates the involvement of other factors as well. Several lines of evidence suggest a role for D3. Furthermore, an earlier meta-analysis by Jönsson et al. (2003) (n=233) suggested a role for genetic variation in the D3 gene. Relevant to this study, Jönsson et al. found the Ser allele of the D3 serine-to-glycine substitution at amino acid position 9 (Ser9Gly) polymorphism to be associated with worse CLZ response compared with the Gly allele. In this study, we attempt to validate these findings by performing a meta-analysis in a much larger sample (n=758). Eight other variants were also tested in our own sample to explore the possible effect of other regions of the gene. We report a negative but consistent trend across individual studies in our meta-analysis for the DRD3 Ser allele and poor CLZ response. A possible minor role for this single-nucleotide polymorphism cannot be disregarded, as our sample size may have been insufficient. Other DRD3 variants and haplotypes of possible interest were also identified for replication in future studies.

Abstract
Our objective was to determine cow- and herd-level risk factors associated with seropositivity for Neospora caninum in a large number of randomly selected Canadian dairy herds, controlling for important confounding variables and co-infections with bovine leukemia virus (BLV), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) and Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP). Serum samples were obtained from 30 randomly selected cows, where available, in 240 herds using monthly milk testing, within 6 of 10 provinces, and these samples were tested for antibodies against BLV, MAP and N. caninum using commercially available ELISA test kits. Five unvaccinated cattle >6 months old from each herd were tested for antibodies to BVDV using virus neutralization. Most herd-level predictors were obtained through personal interviews with questionnaires administrated to each farm manager. A mixed logistic-regression model was built using N. caninum serostatus at the cow-level as the outcome variable, with herd as a random effect and province as a fixed effect. A BLV seropositive cow was 1.50 times more likely to be seropositive for N. caninum than a BLV-seronegative cow, and this was the only cow-level variable to remain in the final model. Regarding herd-level variables, with "no on-farm dogs" as the baseline, "presence of dogs but not known to eat placentas and/or fetuses" increased the odds of seropositivity for N. caninum by a factor of 1.66. For "presence of dogs known to eat placentas and/or fetuses", the odds ratio (OR) was 2.75, demonstrating a dose-response relationship. "Using embryo transfer" (OR=0.69), "asking for a BVDV-negative test before introducing an animal" (OR=0.30), "using monensin in dry cows" (OR=0.71), and "heifers having nose-to-nose contact with calves" (OR=0.73) were all dichotomous variables negatively associated with seropositivity for N. caninum. "Number of milk cows on the farm" (OR=0.99), and "area (acres) used for forage production" (OR=0.99) were continuous variables negatively associated with N. caninum seropositivity.

Abstract
Gallbladder carcinoma is an uncommon, but highly malignant tumor, with poor prognostic, and diagnostic manifestations in early stages. The Indian Council of Medical Research reported increased incidence of gallbladder carcinoma in the surviving population of the Bhopal gas tragedy that involved exposure of more than 500,000 people to methyl isocyanate gas. The severity of exposure, and increased multi-systemic morbidity in the survivors stimulated us to examine the molecular changes leading to gallbladder carcinoma. Surgically resected samples (N = 40) of gallbladder carcinoma were studied for the p53, Rad50, and cyclin-E expression by immunohistofluorescence bioimaging. Among the 40 samples, 23, 11, and 10 showed p53, Rad50, and cyclin-E expression, respectively, in moderately differentiated adenocarcinomas, demonstrating the prevalence and invasiveness of this disease in the methyl isocyanate-exposed population (P = 0.0009). Nevertheless, co-expression of Rad50, and cyclin-E with p53 was absent in adenomas with dysplasia, demonstrating their independent roles. We conclude that there was altered expression of p53, Rad50, and cyclin-E in the malignant transformation of gallbladder carcinoma in this methyl isocyanate gas-exposed cohort. Hence, these proteins may be useful as markers to identify premalignant lesions that are likely to progress into malignant adenocarcinoma.

Abstract
The present study was conducted to find out the role of natural immunity against dental caries. Whole stimulated saliva of various caries from active children was collected. Antigen glucosyltransferase (GTF) was prepared from Streptococcus mutans serotype C and the antibody titre was estimated using ELISA. Salivary IgG, s-IgA and total immunoglobulins (IgG + s-IgA+ IgM) concentration were assayed. The result showed an increased level of salivary IgG concentration with the increased number of dental caries, which was not statistically significant. But there were significant decrease of s-IgA titre as well as total immunoglobulin concentration in saliva with the increased number of dental caries. This study showed that because of lack of local immunity the children are more prone to dental caries.

Abstract
We report the case of a young primigravida who presented with a 20 weeks pregnancy with a previous diagnosis of uterine fibroid. However, ultrasound evaluation revealed the presence of a large sacro-coccygeal teratoma in the foetus which was heterogeneous with cystic areas and calcific foci, and showed increased vascularity. There was also evidence of foetal cardiomegaly and hydrops foetalis, indicated by subcutaneous oedema in the foetus, thickened placenta and polyhydramnios. The presence of hydrops with sacro-coccygeal teratoma has a grave prognosis for the mother and child; hence termination of pregnancy was done. A 20 weeks old foetus with a huge sacro-coccygeal mass, which was ruptured at many places and showed areas of active bleed, was expelled.

Abstract
In this work, we use a dissipative-particle-dynamics-based model for two-phase flows to simulate the breakup of liquid nanocylinders. Rayleigh's criterion for capillary breakup of inviscid liquid cylinders is shown to apply for the cases considered, in agreement with prior molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Also, as shown previously through MD simulations, satellite drops are not observed, because of the dominant role played by thermal fluctuations which lead to a symmetric breakup of the neck joining the two main drops. The parameters varied in this study are the domain size, cylinder radius, thermal length scale, viscosity, and surface tension. The breakup time does not show the same scaling dependence as in capillary breakup of liquid cylinders at the macroscale. The time variation of the radius at the point of breakup agrees with prior theoretical predictions from expressions derived with the assumption that thermal fluctuations lead to breakup.

Abstract
Since cattle are widely infected by bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) in India, we searched for pestivirus infection in yaks. Of 71 pure and crossbred yaks from Himalayan region, pestivirus antigen was detected by Ag-ELISA in three animals. Pestivirus in leukocyte and cell culture isolated virus samples originating from positive yaks was also confirmed by RT-PCR using panpestivirus specific primers selected from 5'-untranslated region (5' UTR). The 5' UTR, N(pro) and E2 regions were sequenced and used for genetic typing. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that pestiviruses detected in three Himalayan yaks were similar genetically, belonging to BVDV-1. Antigenic characterisation of yak pestivirus also confirmed the typing as BVDV-1. This is the first report on the identification of BVDV type 1 in yaks.

Abstract
Parthenocarpy is the development of the fruit in absence of pollination and/or fertilization. In tomato, parthenocarpy is considered as an attractive trait to solve the problems of fruit setting under unfavorable conditions. We studied the genetics of parthenocarpy in two different lines, IL5-1 and IVT-line 1, both carrying Solanum habrochaites chromosome segments. Parthenocarpy in IL5-1 is under the control of two QTLs, one on chromosome 4 (pat4.1) and one on chromosome 5 (pat5.1). IVT-line 1 also contains two parthenocarpy QTLs, one on chromosome 4 (pat4.2) and one on chromosome 9 (pat9.1). In addition, we identified one stigma exsertion locus in IL5-1, located on the long arm of chromosome 5 (se5.1). It is likely that pat4.1, from IL5-1 and pat4.2, from IVT-line 1, both located near the centromere of chromosome 4 are allelic. By making use of the microsynteny between tomato and Arabidopsis in this genetic region, we identified ARF8 as a potential candidate gene for these two QTLs. ARF8 is known to act as an inhibitor for further carpel development in Arabidopsis, in absence of pollination/fertilization. Expression of an aberrant form of the Arabidopsis ARF8 gene, in tomato, has been found to cause parthenocarpy. This candidate gene approach may lead to the first isolation of a parthenocarpy gene in tomato and will allow further use in several crop species.

Abstract
Immunization against Angara disease virus (ADV), a serotype 4 avian adenovirus, and Newcastle disease virus (NDV), an avian paramyxovirus serotype 1, is the mainstay of a broiler vaccination programme, while polyether ionophores usually form an essential component of a broiler medication programme in most parts of India and Pakistan. The role of polyether ionophores in the protective immune responses of broiler chickens vaccinated and challenged with ADV and NDV was investigated. A total of 1600 birds were divided into eight groups of 200 birds each. First four groups were vaccinated against NDV and ADV, while the remaining four served as unvaccinated controls. The first 3 groups of birds were administered salinomycin, monensin and cyclophosphamide (CYP), respectively. The last group served as an untreated control. The same treatment schedule was also followed for the next four unvaccinated groups. The post-vaccination and post-challenge serological responses to NDV and ADV, body and lymphoid organ weight gains, post-challenge survival rate and detection of NDV and ADV in the tissues of infected birds were evaluated. Birds administered salinomycin showed a significant stimulation of protective immune responses against both NDV and ADV as compared to the untreated and CYP-treated birds. Monensin also enhanced the protective immune responses against both viruses but the effect was not statistically significant. Thus, it is concluded that monensin and salinomycin augment the anti-NDV and anti-ADV immune responses in broiler chickens, which supports their use in poultry flocks.

Abstract
Objective The objective of this first population-based study in Hong Kong was to assess the impact of psychological abuse by an intimate partner on the mental health of pregnant women. Design Survey. Setting Antenatal clinics in seven public hospitals in Hong Kong. Population Three thousand two hundred and forty-five pregnant women. Methods The Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS) and demographic questionnaires were administered face-to-face at 32–36 weeks of gestation. At 1 week postpartum, the AAS, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and SF-12 Health Survey were administered by telephone. Main outcome measures Intimate partner violence, postnatal depression and health-related quality of life. Results Two hundred and ninety six (9.1%) of the participants reported abuse by an intimate partner in the past year. Of those abused, 216 (73%) reported psychological abuse only and 80 (27%) reported physical and/or sexual abuse. Forty six (57.5%) in the physical and/or sexual abuse group also reported psychological abuse. Women in the psychological abuse only group had a higher risk of postnatal depression compared with nonabused women (adjusted OR: 1.84, 95% CI: 1.12–3.02). They were also at a higher risk of thinking about harming themselves (adjusted OR: 3.50, 95% CI: 1.49–8.20) and had significantly poorer mental health-related quality of life (P < 0.001). The higher risks of postnatal depression and thinking of harming themselves were not observed in the physical and/or sexual abuse group although significantly poorer mental health-related quality of life (P < 0.001) was observed. Conclusions Psychological abuse by an intimate partner against pregnant women has a negative impact on their mental health postdelivery. Furthermore, psychological abuse in the absence of physical and/or sexual abuse can have a detrimental effect on the mental health of abused women. The findings underscore the importance of screening pregnant women for abuse by an intimate partner and the need for developing, implementing and evaluating interventions to address psychological abuse. Abstract
Recent studies have shown that bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) type 1 is widely prevalent in Indian cattle. In a surveillance of randomly collected 562 blood samples from seven states during 2004-2006, BVDV type 2 was detected in two native Indian goats by nested reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (nRT-PCR). The virus isolated from them was classified antigenically as BVDV 2 on the basis of virus neutralization test and reactivity with monoclonal antibodies. Phylogenetic analysis of three different genomic regions, 5' un-translated region (5' UTR), E(rns) structural coding region and NS5B nonstructural coding region typed Indian goat isolate as BVDV 2a having close similarity with strains from North America and Europe suggesting its probable introduction through trade. It was placed in a separate clade within the 2a branch having unique mutations in E(rns) and NS5B region. This is the first report of BVDV 2 in India and only second time recorded in goat species. The isolation of BVDV 2 from goat warrants intensive surveillance in cattle and sheep.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the measurement accuracy and the utility of the Chinese Abuse Assessment Screen (AAS). DESIGN A cross-sectional study. SETTING An antenatal clinic of a public hospital and a community centre in Hong Kong. SAMPLE A total of 257 Chinese women consisting of 100 pregnant women and 157 nonpregnant women. METHOD The Chinese AAS was administered first, followed by the Chinese Revised Conflict Tactics Scales (CTS2). This was performed in the same sitting, and each participant was interviewed once either at an antenatal clinic (for the pregnant women sample) or at a community centre (for the nonpregnant women sample). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Estimates of the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values and positive and negative likelihood ratios. RESULTS Using the Chinese CTS2 as the standard, the specificity estimates of the Chinese AAS for emotional, physical and sexual abuse were > or = 89%, while the sensitivity estimates varied from 36.3 to 65.8%. The sensitivity improved in the screening for more severe cases (66.7%). The positive predictive values were > or = 80%, and the negative predictive values varied from 66 to 93%. Factors such as the age difference between the couple and the woman's need for financial assistance were found to be associated with intimate partner violence (IPV). CONCLUSION The Chinese AAS has demonstrated satisfactory measurement accuracy and utility for identifying IPV when the Chinese CTS2 was used as the standard.
