Abstract
The fast growth of mulberry depends on high water consumption, but considerable variations in drought tolerance exist across different cultivars. Physiological and anatomical mechanisms are important to plant survival under drought. However, few research efforts have been made to reveal the relationships of these two aspects in relation to drought tolerance. In this study, growth rates, leaf functional physiology and anatomical characteristics of leaf and xylem of 1-year-old saplings of seven mulberry cultivars at a common garden were compared. Their relationships were also explored. Growth, leaf physiology and anatomy were significantly different among the tested cultivars. Foliar stable carbon isotope composition (δ13 C) was negatively correlated with growth rates, and closely related to several leaf and xylem anatomical traits. Particularly, leaf thickness, predicted hydraulic conductivity and vessel element length jointly contributed 77% of the variability in δ13 C. Cultivar Wupu had small stomata, intermediate leaf thickness, the smallest hydraulically weighted vessel diameter and highest vessel number, and higher δ13 C; Yunguo1 had high abaxial stomatal density, low specific leaf area, moderate hydraulic conductivity and δ13 C; these are beneficial features to reduce leaf water loss and drought-induced xylem embolism in arid areas. Cultivar Liaolu11 had contrasting physiological and anatomical traits compared with the previous two cultivars, suggesting that it might be sensitive to drought. Our findings indicate that growth and δ13 C are closely associated with both leaf and xylem anatomical characteristics in mulberry, which provides fundamental information to assist evaluation of drought tolerance in mulberry cultivars and in other woody trees.

Abstract
To assess BAT activity in humans at a population level, infrared thermography (IRT) represents a safe, readily repeatable and affordable alternative to 18F-FDG-PET. Building upon a previously proposed method by our laboratory, we further refined the image computational algorithm to quantify BAT activation in the cervical-supraclavicular (C-SCV) region of healthy young men under thermo-neutral and cold exposure conditions. Additionally, we validated the whole-body calorimeter (WBC) in reliably measuring cold-induced thermogenesis. The temperature gradient between C-SCV-deltoid regions, and the corresponding difference in heat power output, increased upon cold air exposure relative to thermo-neutral conditions (by 74.88 %, p<0.0001; and by 71.34 %, p<0.0001 respectively). Resting and cumulative energy expenditure (EE) rose significantly (by 13.14 % and 9.12 % respectively, p=0.0001) while positive correlations between IRT measures and EE were found with cold air exposure (percentage change in heat power gradient between ROI and deltoid, cold air: r(2)=0.29, p=0.026, Pearson's correlation). IRT and WBC can be used to study BAT activation. The refined algorithm allows for more automation and objectivity in IRT data analysis, especially under cold air exposures.

Background
Our National Health Service is facing unprecedented challenges to accommodate our frailer healthcare users. The gold standard tool for the identification and management of frailty is the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and has been shown to lead to better outcomes in terms of morbidity and mortality.
Introduction
With a largely elderly demographic profile in the East of England, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital opened the first Older People’s Emergency Department (OPED) in the UK in 2017. This work reviews the effectiveness of a geriatrician-led CGA in a dedicated OPED, which operates during daylight hours, compared to usual care in Accident & Emergency (A&E).
Methods
99 patients assessed in OPED and 99 patients assessed overnight in A&E during February 2019 were included in this retrospective study. Electronic case notes for each patient were reviewed by the authors and results were expressed as percentages.
Results
OPED outperformed A&E in all components of the CGA; strongest areas included assessing for pain, falls risk and activities of daily living. Both departments performed well in reviewing medications and assessing for safeguarding concerns. Areas for improvement include assessing for mood disorders, sensory impairment, discussing Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation status, and end of life care plans. The average length of stay of OPED patients was only 7.3 days compared to 8.7 days in A&E, and 89% of OPED patients were discharged back to their usual residences compared to 87% in A&E.
Conclusions
The improved CGA process in OPED has led to better outcomes, notably through a reduction in the average length of inpatient stay. Nevertheless, certain components of the CGA still require improvement. Further examination is needed to assess long-term mortality to support the use of CGA in the emergency setting.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Central venous catheters are used extensively as temporary or permanent vascular access for haemodialysis patients. Catheter-related bloodstream infections are the main complication of central venous catheters and increase morbidity and mortality in haemodialysis patients. OBJECTIVES The aim was to assess the most appropriate lock solution for central venous catheters to prevent catheter-related bloodstream infections and other complications. DATA SOURCES Medline, Embase and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from the date of their inception to August 2018 were used as data sources. The reference lists of eligible studies and relevant reviews were also checked. STUDY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA AND PARTICIPANTS Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing different lock solutions for the prevention of central venous catheter-related infectious and bleeding complications for adult dialysis patients were included. INTERVENTIONS Interventions were lock solutions for haemodialysis catheters. METHODS The primary outcomes were catheter-related bloodstream infections and bleeding events. The secondary outcomes were catheter malfunction, exit-site infection, and all-cause mortality. We estimated summary risk ratios (RRs) using pairwise and network meta-analysis. We assessed the risk of bias of individual studies with the Cochrane risk of bias tool. RESULTS Forty-nine trials (7020 patients) were included for this study. Compared with heparin 5000 U/mL, antibiotic locks (antibiotics with trisodium citrate (TSC), ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), heparin 5000 U/mL, low-dose heparin or urokinase) and ethanol locks were more effective in preventing catheter-related bloodstream infections. Antimicrobial agents plus low-dose heparin (500-2500 U/mL), TSC and low-dose heparin locks had lower risk of bleeding events than heparin 5000 U/mL. None of the lock solutions reduced rates of catheter malfunction and all-cause mortality compared with heparin 5000 U/mL. In summary, antibiotics plus low-dose heparin was ranked as the best lock solution. The overall results were not materially changed in sensitivity analyses. CONCLUSIONS Taking into account both efficacy and safety, antibiotics plus low-dose heparin (500-2500 U/mL) may be the preferred lock solution.

Abstract
Objective: Introduce the surgical techniques of bridge-shaped flap penetrating keratoplasty and whole lamellar keratoplasty with corneoscleral limbal and the comparison of therapeutic effects on keratoglobus. Methods: Five patients (eight eyes) with keratoglobus from January 2010 to December 2015 were included. Three eyes received bridge-shaped flap penetrating keratoplasty (two eyes with corneal penetrating injury due to trauma, one eye with descemet's membrane detachment) and five eyes received whole lamellar keratoplasty with corneoscleral limbal. Results: The patients (four male, one female) aged 3 to 67 years old. Three younger patients were complicated with blue sclera. The visual acuity of all the patients pre-operation were lower than 0.05. The average visual acuity after whole lamellar keratoplasty (LKP) surgery was 0.2, while the average visual acuity after bridge-shaped flap penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) was 0.5. The corneal epithelium of the three eyes received bridge-shaped flap PKP surgery was completely healed within a week with no recurrence of corneal epithelial defect. Whereas one eye after whole LKP surgery arised persistent corneal epithelial defect and healed after blepharorrhaphy. The corneal epithelial of another eye after whole LKP surgery healed slowly and was completely healed after wearing a bandage lens on corneal for 2 months. The corneal epithelial of the remaining three eyes after whole LKP surgery was completely healed within a week. Two eyes received bridge-shaped flap PKP surgery arised corneal graft rejection 2 months after operation and recovered after anti-rejection treatment. No corneal graft rejection arised in the patients receiving whole LKP surgery. Conclusions: The whole lamellar keratoplasty with corneoscleral limbal could effectively reinforce corneal, avoid corneal penetrating injury caused by minor trauma, and improve visual acuity in keratoglobus whose corneas were gradually thinning and corrected vision cannot be improved. The patients with corneal perforating injury or descemet's membrane detachment could obtain good visual prognosis receiving bridge-shaped flap penetrating keratoplasty. Abstract
Swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV) is a newly identified enteric alphacoronavirus that causes fatal diarrhea in newborn piglets in China. Here, we propagated a virulent strain SADS-CoV/CN/GDWT/2017 in Vero cells for up to 83 passages. Four strains of SADS-CoV/GDWT-P7, -P18, -P48 and -P83 were isolated and characterized. Sequence alignments showed that these four novel strains exhibited 16 nucleotide mutations and resultant 10 amino acid substitutions in open reading frame 1a/1b, spike, NS3a, envelope, membrane and nucleocapsid proteins. Furthermore, a 58-bp deletion in NS7a/7b was found in P48 and P83 strains, which led to the loss of NS7b and 38 amino acid changes of NS7a. Pig infection studies showed that the P7 strain caused typical watery diarrhea, while the P83 strain induced none-to-mild, delayed and transient diarrhea. This is the first report on cell adaption of a virulent SADS-CoV strain, which gives information on the potential virulence determinants of SADS-CoV.

Abstract
We report the first measurement of rapidity-odd directed flow (v_{1}) for D^{0} and D^{0}[over ¯] mesons at midrapidity (|y|<0.8) in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV using the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. In 10-80% Au+Au collisions, the slope of the v_{1} rapidity dependence (dv_{1}/dy), averaged over D^{0} and D^{0}[over ¯] mesons, is -0.080±0.017(stat)±0.016(syst) for transverse momentum p_{T} above 1.5 GeV/c. The absolute value of D^{0} meson dv_{1}/dy is about 25 times larger than that for charged kaons, with 3.4σ significance. These data give a unique insight into the initial tilt of the produced matter, and offer constraints on the geometric and transport parameters of the hot QCD medium created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the expressions of periostin (Postn) in colon cancer tissues and cells, and to investigate its biological effect and mechanism in colon cancer cells. Methods: Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot were used to detect the expressions of Postn, let-7a and miR-98 in 20 pairs of colon cancer tissues and adjacent normal tissues, colon cancer cell lines including SW480, HT-29, HCT-116 and human normal colon epithelial cell NCM460. Small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) of Postn, pcDNA3.1-Postn plasmids, let-7a mimic and its negative control let-7a mimic-NC, miR-98 mimic and its negative control miR-98 mimic-NC were transfected into HCT-116 cells. 3-(4, 5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2, 5-diphenyl-2H tetrazolium bromide (MTT) was used to detect cell viability. Flow cytometry was used to detect cell apoptosis. Luciferase reporter gene assay was used to determine the targeting relationship between miRNAs and Postn. Results: Compared with adjacent normal tissues, Postn expression was up-regulated (P<0.05) while let-7a/miR-98 expression was down-regulated (P<0.05) in colon cancer tissues. Compared with NCM460 cells, Postn expression was up-regulated (P<0.05) while let-7a/miR-98 expression was down-regulated (P<0.05) in SW480, HT-29 and HCT-116 cells. In colon cancer tissues, the expression of Postn was negatively correlated with the expressions of let-7a and miR-98 (r=-0.69, P<0.001; r=-0.80, P<0.001). Inhibition of Postn in vitro reduced the viability of HCT-116 cells [(53.73±7.63)%, P<0.05], increased the apoptotic rate [(22.88±3.40)%, P<0.05], enhanced the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) marker E-cadherin (2.44±0.39, P<0.05), while down-regulated the expressions of N-cadherin and Vimentin (0.44±0.07 and 0.38±0.06, P<0.05). Overexpression of Postn in vitro enhanced the cell viability of HCT-116 cells [(134.41±8.82) %, P<0.05], decreased the expression of E-cadherin (0.55±0.09, P<0.05), increased the expressions of N-cadherin and Vimentin (2.93±0.42 and 2.24±0.34, P<0.05), but had no effect on the apoptotic rate (P>0.05). Overexpression of let-7a or miR-98 partially reversed the biological effects of Postn overexpression in colon cancer cells, which implicated that Postn was a target gene of let-7a/miR-98. Conclusions: Postn is a cancer-promoting molecule of colon cancer, and inhibition of Postn expression can increase the apoptotic rate of colon cancer cells and repress EMT. Postn expression and function is regulated by let-7a/miR-98.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the improvement rate of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection who received entecavir alone or in combination with anluohuaxianwan for 78 weeks. Methods: Patients with chronic HBV infection were randomly treated with entecavir alone or in combination with anluohuaxian for 78 weeks. Ishak fibrosis score was used for blind interpretation of liver biopsy specimens. The improvement in liver fibrosis condition before and after the treatment was compared. Student's t test and non-parametric test (Mann-Whitney U-Test and Kruskal-Wallis test) were used to analyze the measurement data. The categorical variables were analyzed by Chi-square test method and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used to test bivariate associations. Results: Liver fibrosis improvement rate after 78 weeks of treatment was 36.53% (80/219) and the progression rate was 23.29% (51/219). The improvement of liver fibrosis was associated to the degree of baseline fibrosis and treatment methods (P < 0.05). The improvement rate of hepatic fibrosis in patients treated with anluohuaxianwan combined with entecavir at baseline F < 3 (54.74%, 52/95) was significantly higher than that in patients treated only with entecavir (33.33%, 16/48), P = 0.016 and the progression rate of hepatic fibrosis (13.68%, 13/95) was lower than that in patients treated alone (18.75%, 9/48), P = 0.466. In patients with baseline F < 3, the proportion of patients with improved and stable liver fibrosis in the combined treatment group (68.1%, 32/47) was higher than that in the treatment group alone (51.7%, 15/29). Conclusion: Combined anluohuaxianwan and entecavir treatment can significantly improve the improvement rate of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection. Furthermore, it has the tendency to improve the stability rate and reduce the rate of progression of liver fibrosis.

Abstract
The Λ (Λ[over ¯]) hyperon polarization along the beam direction has been measured in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV, for the first time in heavy-ion collisions. The polarization dependence on the hyperons' emission angle relative to the elliptic flow plane exhibits a second harmonic sine modulation, indicating a quadrupole pattern of the vorticity component along the beam direction, expected due to elliptic flow. The polarization is found to increase in more peripheral collisions, and shows no strong transverse momentum (p_{T}) dependence at p_{T} greater than 1 GeV/c. The magnitude of the signal is about 5 times smaller than those predicted by hydrodynamic and multiphase transport models; the observed phase of the emission angle dependence is also opposite to these model predictions. In contrast, the kinematic vorticity calculations in the blast-wave model tuned to reproduce particle spectra, elliptic flow, and the azimuthal dependence of the Gaussian source radii measured with the Hanbury Brown-Twiss intensity interferometry technique reproduce well the modulation phase measured in the data and capture the centrality and transverse momentum dependence of the polarization signal.

Abstract
We report on the first measurements of J/ψ production at very low transverse momentum (p_{T}<0.2 GeV/c) in hadronic Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV and U+U collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=193 GeV. Remarkably, the inferred nuclear modification factor of J/ψ at midrapidity in Au+Au (U+U) collisions reaches about 24 (52) for p_{T}<0.05 GeV/c in the 60%-80% collision centrality class. This noteworthy enhancement cannot be explained by hadronic production accompanied by cold and hot medium effects. In addition, the dN/dt distribution of J/ψ for the very low p_{T} range is presented for the first time. The distribution is consistent with that expected from the Au nucleus and shows a hint of interference. Comparison of the measurements to theoretical calculations of coherent production shows that the excess yield can be described reasonably well and reveals a partial disruption of coherent production in semicentral collisions, perhaps due to the violent hadronic interactions. Incorporating theoretical calculations, the results strongly suggest that the dramatic enhancement of J/ψ yield observed at extremely low p_{T} originates from coherent photon-nucleus interactions. In particular, coherently produced J/ψ's in violent hadronic collisions may provide a novel probe of the quark-gluon plasma.

Abstract
Hepatic fibrosis is a reversible pathological process in which the liver cells has been subjected to long periods of various acute and chronic injuries leading to the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), imbalance of extracellular matrix synthesis, degradation, and deposition. Among them, the activation of hepatic stellate cells is the key link for the occurrence of hepatic fibrosis, so intervention of HSCs activation and proliferation is expected to reverse the progression of liver fibrosis. Thus, this paper summarizes the signaling pathways involved in the liver fibrosis progression, with hepatic stellate cells as the center, to provide new ideas for the study of anti-fibrosis.

Abstract
This Letter reports the first extraction of individual antineutrino spectra from ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu fission and an improved measurement of the prompt energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos at Daya Bay. The analysis uses 3.5×10^{6} inverse beta-decay candidates in four near antineutrino detectors in 1958 days. The individual antineutrino spectra of the two dominant isotopes, ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu, are extracted using the evolution of the prompt spectrum as a function of the isotope fission fractions. In the energy window of 4-6 MeV, a 7% (9%) excess of events is observed for the ^{235}U (^{239}Pu) spectrum compared with the normalized Huber-Mueller model prediction. The significance of discrepancy is 4.0σ for ^{235}U spectral shape compared with the Huber-Mueller model prediction. The shape of the measured inverse beta-decay prompt energy spectrum disagrees with the prediction of the Huber-Mueller model at 5.3σ. In the energy range of 4-6 MeV, a maximal local discrepancy of 6.3σ is observed.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the morbidity and treatment of early postoperative complications after laparoscopic D2 radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer, and to explore the risk factors. Methods: A case-control study was performed to retrospectively collect clinicopathological data of 764 patients undergoing laparoscopic D2 radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer at our department between January 2015 and December 2017. Patient inclusion criteria: (1) gastric cancer diagnosed by preoperative electronic gastroscopy and biopsy, and confirmed by postoperative pathology; (2) without invasion into adjacent organs by preoperative evaluation of tumors; (3) tumors without definite liver and distant metastasis; (4) R0 resection of gastric cancer and standard D2 lymph node dissection; (5) patients with informed consent. Exclusion criteria: (1) unperformed laparoscopic D2 radical resection; (2) other types of gastric tumor confirmed by pathology; (3) cases with incomplete clinical data. Complication occurring within two weeks after laparoscopic D2 gastrectomy was defined as early postoperative complication. Patients were divided into two groups: non-complication group (693 cases) and complication group (71 cases) according to the occurrence of complications after operation. The clinicopathological data of two groups were analyzed and compared with t test and χ(2) test, and the factors of P < 0.2 were included in the multivariate logistic regression model to analyze the risk factors of postoperative complications. Results: Of 764 patients, 71 (9.3%) developed early postoperative complications, with median onset time of 3 (1 to 11) days. Surgical complications accounted for 7.9% (60/764), including 13 cases (1.7%) of abdominal hemorrhage, 12 cases (1.6%) of anastomotic leakage, 10 cases (1.3%) of incision infection, 8 cases (1.0%) of anastomotic bleeding, 7 cases (0.9%) of gastric stump weakness, 4 cases (0.5%) of abdominal infection, 4 cases (0.5%) of duodenal stump leakage and 2 cases (0.3%) of small intestinal obstruction. Non-surgical complications accounted for 1.4% (11/764), including 6 cases (0.8%) of pulmonary infection and 5 cases (0.7%) of cardiovascular disease. Two cases (0.3%) died of sepsis caused by severe abdominal infection; 9 cases (1.2%) recovered after receiving the second operation, among whom 5 cases were abdominal hemorrhage, 2 cases were anastomotic leakage and 2 cases were duodenal stump leakage; the remaining patients were healed with conservative treatment. Compared with patients without complications, patients with complications had higher proportions of BMI ≥24 kg/m(2) [42.3% (30/71) vs. 24.2%(168/693), χ(2)=10.881, P=0.001], comorbity [64.8% (46/71) vs. 33.5% (232/693), χ(2)=27.277, P<0.001], combined organ resection [70.4% (50/71) vs. 20.5% (142/693), χ(2)=85.338, P<0.001], and pTNM stage of III [70.4% (50/71) vs. 40.1% (278/693), χ(2)=24.196, P<0.001], meanwhile had longer time to postoperative flatus [(4.2±2.1) days vs. (2.9±1.2) days, t=4.621, P=0.023], longer hospital stay [(34.6±12.6) days vs. (14.2±6.2) days, t=9.862, P<0.001] and higher hospitalization cost [(126.8±64.5) thousand yuan vs. (85.2±35.8) thousand yuan, t=11.235, P<0.001]. Multivariate analysis showed that BMI ≥24 kg/m(2) (OR=3.762, 95% CI: 1.960-8.783, P=0.035), accompanying disease (OR=8.620, 95% CI: 1.862-29.752, P<0.001), combined organ resection (OR=6.210, 95% CI: 1.357-21.568, P=0.026), and pTNM stage (OR=4.752, 95% CI: 1.214-12.658, P<0.001) were the independent risk factors of postoperative complications. Conclusions: Laparoscopic D2 radical gastrectomy is a safe and effective approach for gastric cancer. Most early postoperative complications can obtain satisfactory efficacy after conservative treatment. Perioperative management should be strengthened for those patients with high BMI, accompanying diseases, combined organ resection, and advanced pTNM stage.
