Abstract
OBJECTIVE Grip strength and diabetes are predictors of mortality and cardiovascular disease (CVD), but whether these risk factors interact to predispose to adverse health outcomes is unknown. This study determined the interactions between diabetes and grip strength and their association with health outcomes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We undertook a prospective, general population cohort study by using UK Biobank. Cox proportional hazards models were used to explore the associations between both grip strength and diabetes and the outcomes of all-cause mortality and CVD incidence/mortality as well as to test for interactions between diabetes and grip strength. RESULTS A total of 347,130 UK Biobank participants with full data available (mean age 55.9 years, BMI 27.2 kg/m2, 54.2% women) were included in the analysis, of which 13,373 (4.0%) had diabetes. Over a median follow-up of 4.9 years (range 3.3-7.8 years), 6,209 died (594 as a result of CVD), and 4,301 developed CVD. Participants with diabetes were at higher risk of all-cause and CVD mortality and CVD incidence. Significant interactions (P < 0.05) existed whereby the risk of CVD mortality was higher in participants with diabetes with low (hazard ratio [HR] 4.05 [95% CI 2.72, 5.80]) versus high (HR 1.46 [0.87, 2.46]) grip strength. Similar results were observed for all-cause mortality and CVD incidence. CONCLUSIONS Risk of adverse health outcomes among people with diabetes is lower in those with high grip strength. Low grip strength may be useful to identify a higher-risk subgroup of patients with diabetes. Intervention studies are required to determine whether resistance exercise can reduce risk.

Abstract
Current studies have revealed that aging is a negative factor that suppresses granulosa cell functions and causes low fertility in women. However, the difference in gene expression between normal and aging granulosa cells remains undefined. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the gene expression profiles of granulosa cells during aging. Granulosa cells from young healthy porcine ovaries were aged in vitro by prolonging the culture time (for 48h). First, the extracellular ultrastructure was observed by scanning electron microscopy followed by RNA-seq and KEGG pathway analysis. The results showed that the extracellular ultrastructure was significantly altered by aging; cell membranes were rough, and cavitations were found. Moreover, the formations of filopodia were greatly reduced. RNA-seq data revealed that 3411 genes were differentially expressed during aging, of which 2193 genes were up-regulated and 1218 genes were down-regulated. KEGG pathway analysis revealed that 25 pathways including pathway in cancer, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, focal adhesion, proteoglycans in cancer, and cAMP signaling pathway were the most changed. Moreover, several high differentially expressed genes (CEBPB, CXCL12, ANGPT2, IGFBP3, and BBOX1) were identified in aging granulosa cells, The expressions of these genes and genes associated with extracellular matrix remodeling associated genes (TIMP3, MMP2, MMP3, and CTGF), energy metabolism associated genes (SLC2A1, PPARγ) and steroidogenesis associated genes (StAR, CYP11A1 and LHCGR) were confirmed by quantitative PCR. This study identifies the differently changed pathways and their related genes, contributes to the understanding of aging in granulosa cells, and provides an important foundation for further studies.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare the efficacy of muscle gap approach under a minimally invasive channel surgical technique with the traditional median approach.In the Orthopedics Department of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital, Tongzhou District, Beijing, 68 cases of lumbar spinal canal stenosis underwent surgery using the muscle gap approach under a minimally invasive channel technique and a median approach between September 2013 and February 2016. Both approaches adopted lumbar spinal canal decompression, intervertebral disk removal, cage implantation, and pedicle screw fixation. The operation time, bleeding volume, postoperative drainage volume, and preoperative and postoperative visual analog scale (VAS) score and Japanese Orthopedics Association score (JOA) were compared between the 2 groups.All patients were followed up for more than 1 year. No significant difference between the 2 groups was found with respect to age, gender, surgical segments. No diversity was noted in the operation time, intraoperative bleeding volume, preoperative and 1 month after the operation VAS score, preoperative and 1 month after the operation JOA score, and 6 months after the operation JOA score between 2 groups (P > .05). The amount of postoperative wound drainage (260.90 ± 160 mL vs 447.80 ± 183.60 mL, P < .001) and the VAS score 6 months after the operation (1.71 ± 0.64 vs 2.19 ± 0.87, P = .01) were significantly lower in the muscle gap approach group than in the median approach group (P < .05). In the muscle gap approach under a minimally invasive channel group, the average drainage volume was reduced by 187 mL, and the average VAS score 6 months after the operation was reduced by an average of 0.48.The muscle gap approach under a minimally invasive channel technique is a feasible method to treat long segmental lumbar spinal canal stenosis. It retains the integrity of the posterior spine complex to the greatest extent, so as to reduce the adjacent spinal segmental degeneration and soft tissue trauma. Satisfactory short-term and long-term clinical results were obtained.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the knowledge, practice and attitudes of maternity clinicians regarding congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV). It is the most common congenital infection, and well-recognized cause of neurodevelopmental disability and hearing loss. New consensus recommendations state all pregnant women and health-care providers should be educated about congenital CMV infection and preventive measures. MATERIALS AND METHODS An email questionnaire was distributed in October 2015 to specialists, diplomates (general practitioners), and trainees of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), and Victorian and New South Wales midwives. RESULTS 774 responded: (37.3% specialists, 17.3% diplomates, 16.8% trainees, 28.6% midwives). Clinicians had variable knowledge of fetal sequelae, transmission routes and prevention. Overall, 30.2% felt confident about discussing CMV in pregnancy: less than 10% of midwives (7.4%) and less than half of specialists (47.1%, p < .0001). Only 8.8% of respondents routinely discussed CMV prevention with pregnant women. The majority (69.3%) responded that professional societies should make practice recommendations, and 88% thought more patient information was needed, preferably leaflets. CONCLUSIONS Australasian maternity clinicians lack confidence and knowledge about congenital CMV. Few (<10%) routinely provide advice on prevention. There is urgent need for clinical guidance and patient information to reduce the burden of disease.

Abstract
NONCODE is a comprehensive database that aims to present the most complete collection and annotation of non-coding RNAs, especially long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA genes), and thus NONCODE is essential to modern biological and medical research. Scientists are producing a flood of new data from which new lncRNA genes and lncRNA-disease relationships are continually being identified. NONCODE assimilates such information from a wide variety of sources including published articles, RNA-seq data, micro-array data and databases on genetic variation (dbSNP) and genome-wide associations (GWAS). NONCODE organizes all this information and makes it freely available to the public via the Internet. The NONCODE protocol provides step-by-step instructions on how to browse and search lncRNA information such as sequence, expression, and disease relationships, how to use the tools for functional prediction, species conservation assays, blast analysis, identifier conversion, and, finally, how to submit sequences to identify lncRNA genes. As of Dec 2016, NONCODE has cataloged 487,851 lncRNA genes sequenced from 16 species. © 2017 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Abstract
This study examines the relationships between two different types of individual orientation (i.e., protean career orientation and employment commitment) and career satisfaction. Drawing on self-determination theory and social cognitive theory, we propose that work engagement and self-efficacy act as mediators in the above relationships. Several hypotheses are developed and tested with a sample of 222 employees in Hong Kong. The results of path analysis and bootstrapping indicated that both protean career orientation and employment commitment are positively related to career satisfaction, and these relationships are fully mediated by work engagement and self-efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive deficits have been identified as one of core clinical symptoms of major depressive disorder (MDD). Accumulating evidence indicated that triglycerides (TG) might be associated with MDD and cognitive decline. OBJECTIVE This study examined whether patients with MDD had poorer cognitive functions than healthy controls, and further investigate whether TG levels were involved in MDD, and its cognitive impairments in a Han Chinese population. METHOD 115 patients with MDD and 119 healthy controls were enrolled. Cognitive functions were assessed by the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS), and serum TG levels were examined using enzymatic colorimetry. RESULTS TG levels were higher in patients with MDD than healthy controls after controlling for the variables. Cognitive test scores were lower in patients with MDD than healthy controls except for visuospatial/constructional index after controlling for the variables. TG levels were negatively correlated with visuospatial/constructional score, delayed memory score and RBANS total score of MDD. Further multivariate regression analysis showed that TG levels were negatively associated with visuospatial/constructional score, attention score, delayed memory score and RBANS total score of MDD. CONCLUSIONS Our findings supported that serum TG levels might be involved in MDD, and play an important role in cognitive impairments of MDD, especially in delayed memory. Moreover, patients with MDD experienced greater cognitive impairments than healthy controls except for visuospatial/constructional index.

Abstract
The forkhead-box P2 (FOXP2) gene polymorphism has been reported to be involved in the susceptibility to schizophrenia; however, few studies have investigated the association between FOXP2 gene polymorphism and clinical symptoms in schizophrenia. This study investigated whether the FOXP2 gene was associated with the development and symptoms of schizophrenia in relatively genetically homogeneous Chinese population. The FOXP2 rs10447760 polymorphism was genotyped in 1069 schizophrenia inpatients and 410 healthy controls using a case-control design. The patients' psychopathology was assessed by the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). We found no significant differences in the genotype and allele distributions between the patient and control groups. Interestingly, we found significant differences in PANSS total, positive symptom, and general psychopathology scores between genotypic subgroups in patients, with the higher score in patients with CC genotype than those with CT genotype (all p < 0.05). After adjusting demographic and clinical variables, the difference still remained significant for the PANSS positive symptom score and general psychopathology (both p < 0.05). Our findings suggest that the FOXP2 rs10447760 polymorphism may not contribute to the development of schizophrenia, but may contribute to the clinical symptoms of schizophrenia among Han Chinese.

Abstract
Long-term antipsychotic treatment for schizophrenia is associated with the development of tardive dyskinesia (TD), which is involved in increased cognitive impairment. Dopamine beta-hydroxylase (DBH) gene associated with dopamine and norepinephrine systems influences cognition. Schizophrenia with TD have higher DBH activity than those without TD. This study examined whether DBH5'-insertion/deletion (-Ins/Del) polymorphism could influence cognitive function in schizophrenia with and without TD. The presence of DBH5'-Ins/Del polymorphism was determined in 345 schizophrenia with TD and 397 schizophrenia without TD. The Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale and Repeatable Battery for Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) were used to assess TD severity and cognition. The allele and genotype frequencies of DBH5'-Ins/Del polymorphism did not differ between patients with and without TD (both p>0.05). RBANS total score and subscales did not differ by DBH5'-Ins/Del genotype groups in patients with TD (all p>0.05). However, attention score significantly differed by DBH5'-Ins/Del genotype groups in those without TD (p<0.05). Patients without TD who were Del homozygous had significantly lower attention score than those without TD who were Ins alleles (p<0.05). Immediate memory and attention scores were lower in patients with TD than without TD (both p<0.05). This study indicated that DBH5'-Ins/Del polymorphism may not play a role in the susceptibility to TD and cognitive deficits in schizophrenia with TD, but it may influence cognitive function in schizophrenia with non-TD. Moreover, schizophrenia with TD experienced greater cognitive deficits than those with non-TD, especially in immediate memory and attention.

Abstract
Cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells were isolated and proliferation from human peripheral blood and cultured in appropriate growth medium. The biological characteristics of CIK cells were further determined by the characterization of surface markers by flow cytometry. CIK cells inhibited the proliferation of human lung adenocarcinoma NCL-H157 cells. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression was down-regulated in CIK cells co-cultured with NCL-H157 cells by western blotting analysis. Furthermore, in comparison with cells untreated by CIK, the NCL-H157 had a lower proliferation capacity. We proposed that the pharmacological mechanisms of NCL-H157 promoted by CIK can be estimated possibly with different biological significance that can be ascribed to down-regulated VEGF expression in vitro. The results suggest that the VEGF pathway guides developmental inhibiting of NCL-H157, and we speculate that the function of VEGF pathways is to guide NCL-H157 to inhibition by abundant CIK.

Abstract
Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the value of biochemical profile of cyst fluid and diffusion‐weighted imaging (DWI) in differentiating hepatic hydatid cysts (HCs) from liver simple cysts. Materials and methods Forty‐six patients underwent MR imaging. Twenty‐nine patients had 29 hydatid cysts and 17 patients had liver simple cysts. Thirteen patients with hydatid cysts and seven patients with liver simple cysts were evaluated with cyst fluid biochemical analysis. The concentration of glucose, protein, calcium ion (Ca2+) electrolyte, macroscopic appearance, and parasitological sediment were evaluated in this study. Results In the respect of biochemical analysis cyst fluid, the concentration of glucose and calcium ion of HCs was significantly higher than that of the liver simple cysts. In the respect of DWI, in the b 1000 s/mm2 value in respect of mean application data center (ADC) values, there was a statistically significant difference between HCs group (the mean value was (2.50±0.79)×10−3 mm/s2) and liver simple cysts group (the mean value was (2.92±0.66)×10−3 mm/s2). However, no statistically significant results were obtained in the ADC measurements of b 500 s/mm2 between two groups. Conclusion The analysis of cyst fluid combined with the measurement of ADC values in the b 1000 s/mm2 value could be considered a promising parameter as an alternative to the differential diagnosis of hepatic hydatid cysts from liver simple cysts.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the complications of supratemporalis approach with scalp coronal incision for the treatment of orbital-zygomatic fractures. METHODS A total of 206 patients with orbital-zygomatic fractures were treated with scalp coronal incision through the supratemporalis approach. The effects and complications of the treatment were analyzed. RESULTS The degree of fracture of the 206 patients was successfully reduced. The facial morphologies and functions were improved. No facial nerve injury was observed in all of the cases. However, the following complications were noted: fossa introcession in 1 case, forehead scalp pain or paresthesia in 11 cases, incision infection in 1 case, subcutaneous hematoma in 1 case, incision scar in 5 cases, and alopecia in 3 cases. CONCLUSIONS The supratemporalis approach prevents facial nerve injury and does not increase the frequency of other complications. Therefore, this approach can be applied as a routine and safe procedure in clinical settings.

Abstract
Cognitive deficits have been regarded as one of the most significant clinical symptoms of depressive disorder. Accumulating evidence has shown that apolipoprotein B (ApoB) levels, which are responsible for inducing neurodegeneration, may be involved in cognitive deficits. This study examines cognitive deficits, and the correlation of serum ApoB levels with cognitive deficits of depressive disorder. 90 depressive patients and 90 healthy controls with matched age and gender were recruited. Cognition was assessed using the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). Serum ApoB levels in depressive patients were measured by immunoturbidimetric method. Our results showed that depressive patients had lower scores of cognition including RBANS total score and subscales of language and delayed memory (all, p < 0.001) than healthy controls after controlling for the variables. The differences in cognitive functions also passed Bonferroni corrections. Serum ApoB levels were negatively correlated with delayed memory score in depressive patients (r = −0.30, p = 0.01). Furthermore, stepwise multivariate regression analysis indicated that serum ApoB levels independently contributed to delayed memory in depressive patients (t = −2.68, p = 0.01). Our findings support that serum ApoB levels may be involved in delayed memory decline in depressive patients. Depressive patients also experience greater cognitive deficits, especially in delayed memory and language than healthy controls.

Abstract
Superficial temporal artery-middle cerebral artery (STA-MCA) bypass [1,2] is an important and effective type of surgical revascularization that is widely used in the treatment of ischemic cerebral artery disease. However, a means of predicting its postoperative efficacy has not been established [3,4]. The present study analyzes the correlation between preoperative perfusion parameters (obtained using dynamic susceptibility contrast-enhanced perfusion imaging, DSC-PI) and postoperative long-term prognosis (using modified Rankin Scale, mRS scores). The preoperative perfusion parameters were defined by a combination of perfusion-weighted imaging and the Alberta Stroke Program Early Computerized Tomography Score (PWI-ASPECTS) and included cerebral blood flow (CBF)-ASPECTS, cerebral blood volume (CBV)-ASPECTS, mean transit time (MTT)-ASPECTS, and time to peak (TTP)-ASPECTS. Preoperative and postoperative scores were determined for 33 patients that received a unilateral STA-MCA bypass in order to discover the most reliable imaging predictive index as well as to define the threshold value for a favorable clinical outcome. The results showed that all of the PWI-ASPECTS scores were significantly negatively correlated with clinical prognosis. Receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis of the preoperative parameters in relation to long term prognosis showed the area under curve (AUC) was maximal for the CBF-ASPECTS score (P = 0.002). A preoperative score of less than six indicated a poor postoperative prognosis (sensitivity = 74.1%, specificity = 100%, AUC = 0.843). In conclusion, preoperative PWI-ASPECTS scores have been found useful as predictive indexes for the long-term prognosis of STA-MCA bypass patients, with higher scores indicating better postoperative long-term outcomes. As the most valuable prognostic indicator, the preoperative CBF-ASPECTS score has potential for use as a major index in screening and outcome prediction of patients under consideration for STA-MCA bypass surgery.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to identify hub genes and pathways associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by centrality analysis of a co-expression network. A co-expression network based on differentially expressed (DE) genes of HCC was constructed using the Differentially Co-expressed Genes and Links (DCGL) package. Centrality analyses, for centrality of degree, clustering coefficient, closeness, stress and betweenness for the co-expression network were performed to identify hub genes, and the hub genes were combined together to overcome inconsistent results. Enrichment analyses were conducted using Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes databases. Finally, validation of hub genes was conducted utilizing reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis. In total, 260 DE genes between normal controls and HCC patients were obtained and a co-expression network with 154 nodes and 326 edges was constructed. From this, 13 hub genes were identified according to degree, clustering coefficient, closeness, stress and betweenness centrality analysis. It was found that reelin (RELN), potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily J member 10 (KCNJ10) and neural cell adhesion molecule 1 (NCAM1) were common hub genes across the five centralities, and the results of RT-PCR analysis for RELN, KCNJ10 and NCAM1 were consistent with the centrality analyses. Pathway enrichment analysis of DE genes showed that cell cycle, metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome P450 and p53 signaling pathway were the most significant pathways. This study may contribute to understanding the molecular pathogenesis of HCC and provide potential biomarkers for its early detection and effective therapies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyse fetal gene expression at term using umbilical cord blood, in order to provide insights into the effects of maternal obesity on human development. DESIGN Prospective case-control study. SETTING Academic tertiary care centre. POPULATION Eight obese (body mass index ≥30 kg/m(2)) and eight lean (body mass index <25 kg/m(2)) pregnant women undergoing prelabour caesarean delivery at term. METHODS Women were matched for gestational age and fetal sex. Cord blood RNA was extracted and hybridised to gene expression arrays. Differentially regulated genes were identified using paired t-tests and the Benjamini-Hochberg correction. Functional analyses were performed using Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, BioGPS and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis with a fetal-specific annotation. Z-scores ≥2.0 or P-values <0.01 were considered significant. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE Functions of differentially regulated genes in fetuses of obese women. RESULTS A total of 701 differentially regulated genes were identified, producing an expression profile implicating neurodegeneration, decreased survival of sensory neurons, and decreased neurogenesis in the fetuses of obese women. Upstream regulators related to inflammatory signalling were significantly activated; those related to insulin receptor signalling, lipid homeostasis, regulation of axonal guidance, and cellular response to oxidative stress were significantly inhibited. Of 26 tissue-specific genes that were differentially regulated in fetuses of obese women, six mapped to the fetal brain. CONCLUSION Maternal obesity affects fetal gene expression at term, implicating dysregulated brain development, inflammatory and immune signalling, glucose and lipid homeostasis, and oxidative stress. This may have implications for postnatal neurodevelopment and metabolism.

Abstract
With rapid advancements in internal fixation and new surgical instruments, surgical treatment has gradually emerged as the first treatment choice for mandibular condylar fractures. An appropriate surgical incision is the first and determinant step during surgery to avoid postoperative complications. Hence, surgical approaches in relation to oral and maxillofacial trauma surgery for the treatment of mandibular condylar fractures have been extensively investigated. This review summarizes the research progress on surgical approaches in the management of mandibular condylar fractures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive deficits have been identified as a core feature of patients with schizophrenia. Many genes associated with the dopamine and norepinephrine systems are related to the cognitive deficits of patients with schizophrenia. Dopamine β-hydroxylase (DβH) is a key enzyme that converts dopamine to norepinephrine and for which activity and levels are under strong genetic control. OBJECTIVE To examine whether the DβH 5'-insertion/deletion (Ins/Del) polymorphism influences cognitive function in patients with chronic schizophrenia. METHOD The presence of the DβH 5'-Ins/Del polymorphism was determined in 733 patients with chronic schizophrenia (diagnosed according to DSM-IV) and 544 healthy controls using a case-control design. We assessed all of the patients' psychopathology using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) and cognition in 540 patients with chronic schizophrenia and 297 healthy controls using the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). This study was conducted between 2008 and 2011. RESULTS The allelic and genotypic frequencies of the DβH 5'-Ins/Del polymorphism were not significantly different between patients with schizophrenia and healthy controls (both P values > .05). However, the cognitive test scores were significantly lower in patients than in the healthy controls for all scales (all P values < .05), except visuospatial/constructional (P > .05). The attention score significantly differed according to the genotypic group (P < .05) in patients but not in the healthy controls (P > .05). In patients with chronic schizophrenia, the mean ± SD attention score was lower in the DβH 5'-Del/Del genotype (65.7 ± 16.8) than in the DβH 5'-Ins/Del genotype (71.4 ± 18.0; P = .007) and the DβH 5'-Ins/Ins genotype (70.8 ± 17.1; P = .02). CONCLUSIONS This study found that patients with chronic schizophrenia had poorer cognitive function than the healthy controls in all examined cognitive domains except for visuospatial/constructional. No significant association was found between the DβH 5'-Ins/Del polymorphism and patients with chronic schizophrenia. However, the DβH 5'-Del/Del genotype may be specific to attentional decrements in patients with chronic schizophrenia.

Abstract
Bloom syndrome, a rare autosomal-recessive disorder, characteristically presents with photosensitivity, telangiectatic facial erythema, and growth deficiency. We present a case of Bloom syndrome with uncommon clinical manifestations including alopecia areata, eyebrow hair loss, flat nose, reticular pigmentation, and short sharpened distal phalanges with fingernails that were wider than they were long. We detected the Bloom syndrome gene, BLM, which is one of the members of the RecQ family of DNA helicases, and found changes in 2 heterozygous nucleotide sites in the patient as well as her father and mother.
