Abstract
BackgroundCrigler-Najjar syndrome type 2 (CNS-II) is a rare genetic disease that is associated with a lack of uridine diphosphate-glucuronosyltransferase. Esophageal carcinoma is the sixth most common cause of cancer-related death worldwide, for which surgery is the most effective treatment. Reports on patients with both conditions requiring surgery are limited and The impact of hyperbilirubinemia caused by CNS-II on the perioperative period is unknown. Previous studies have found that patients with Crigler-Najjar syndrome have an increased risk of gallstones and related complications, which also poses corresponding challenges to the treatment. Herein, we present a patient with CNS-II who underwent successful thoracoscopic surgery for esophageal carcinoma.Case summaryA 65-year-old male presented to our hospital with a choking sensation after eating. A physical examination showed yellowing of the sclera and skin. The patient manifested persistent jaundice since birth and had visited many hospitals, but the cause remained undiagnosed. We performed genetic testing, which confirmed CNS-II. Gastroscopy indicated esophageal carcinoma. A multidisciplinary team discussion was carried out to determine the appropriate treatment and perioperative management for this patient. The results show that surgical resection was the most appropriate approach. Finally, the patient underwent thoracoscopic surgery for esophageal carcinoma without complications.ConclusionEsophageal carcinoma in patients with Crigler-Najjar syndrome is a rare case, and perioperative management is key in the treatment process. It is necessary to pay close attention to the changes of the disease to prevent complications.

Abstract
Egg laying defective nine 1 (EGLN1) functions as an oxygen sensor to catalyze prolyl hydroxylation of the transcription factor hypoxia-inducible factor-1 α (HIF1α) under normoxia conditions, leading to its proteasomal degradation. Thus, EGLN1 plays a central role in the HIF-mediated hypoxia signaling pathway; however, the post-translational modifications that control EGLN1 function remain largely unknown. Here, we identified that a lysine monomethylase, SET7, catalyzes EGLN1 methylation on lysine 297, resulting in the repression of EGLN1 activity in catalyzing prolyl hydroxylation of HIF1α. Notably, we demonstrate that the methylation mimic mutant of EGLN1 loses the capability to suppress the hypoxia signaling pathway, leading to the enhancement of cell proliferation and the oxygen consumption rate. Collectively, our data identify a novel modification of EGLN1 that is critical for inhibiting its enzymatic activity, and which may benefit cellular adaptation to conditions of hypoxia.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare outcomes of in-the-bag vs ciliary sulcus secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation for pediatric aphakia. DESIGN Prospective interventional case series. METHODS This institutional study was conducted in 202 children (355 aphakic eyes) diagnosed as having congenital cataracts and who underwent cataract extraction before age 24 months. Pediatric aphakic eyes underwent in-the-bag or ciliary sulcus secondary IOL implantation according to the amount of residual lens capsule and were monitored for 3 years postoperatively. The main outcome measures were adverse events (AEs), IOL tilt and decentration, and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in the operative eye. RESULTS A total of 144 eyes (40.6%, 89 children) received in-the-bag IOL implantation (capsular group), and 211 eyes (59.4%, 132 children) underwent ciliary sulcus IOL implantation (sulcus group). Kaplan-Meier curves showed that the time-dependent incidence of glaucoma-related AEs (GRAEs) (P = .005) and any AEs (P = .002) were higher in the sulcus group. In-the-bag IOL implantation was a strong protective factor against GRAE (hazard ratio, 0.08; 95% CI, 0.01-0.53; P = .009) and any AEs (hazard ratio, 0.21; 95% CI, 0.08-0.57; P = .002). Clinically significant IOL decentration (>0.4 mm) was more common in the sulcus group compared with the capsular group (vertical decentration: 29.8% vs 15.7%, P = .005; horizontal decentration: 30.3% vs 9.35%, P < .001). BCVA in the capsular group was better than that in the sulcus group (logMAR, 0.56 vs 0.67, P = .014). CONCLUSIONS Compared with ciliary sulcus secondary IOL implantation, in-the-bag IOL implantation reduced AEs and yielded better IOL centration and BCVA for pediatric aphakia.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the occurrence and risk factors of clinically significant intraocular lens (IOL) decentration and tilt in highly myopic eyes using swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography (SS-AS-OCT). DESIGN Cross-sectional study. METHODS This study included 334 participants (334 eyes) with high myopia, defined as axial length (AL) ≥26 mm, who underwent phacoemulsification with IOL implantation. Decentration and tilt of IOL were assessed by SS-AS-OCT. Clinically significant IOL decentration and tilt was defined as decentration ≥0.4 mm and tilt ≥7°. Routine preoperative and postoperative examinations included visual acuity, refraction, biometric measurement using IOLMaster 700 (Carl Zeiss Meditec), and objective visual quality evaluated by OPD-Scan III (Nidek Technologies). RESULTS Among the 334 highly myopic participants, 71 (21.3%) had clinically significant IOL decentration, and 26 (7.78%) had clinically significant IOL tilt. The proportion of clinically significant IOL decentration (37.1% vs 14.0%, P < .001) and tilt (16.2% vs 3.90%, P < .001) in those with AL ≥30 mm was significantly higher than in those with AL <30 mm. The multivariable logistic regression model showed only AL ≥30 mm was associated with clinically significant IOL decentration (odds ratio, 1.65; P = .002). AL ≥30 mm (odds ratio, 2.09; P = .001) was an independent risk factor for clinically significant IOL tilt after adjusting for confounders. AL ≥30.3 mm could effectively predict IOL decentration ≥0.6 mm (area under the curve, 0.802). CONCLUSIONS Participants with AL >30 mm have a higher risk of clinically significant IOL decentration and tilt, thus caution should be taken to implant multifocal or toric IOL for these patients.

Abstract
Covalent bonding is one of the most robust forms of intramolecular interaction between adhesives and substrates. In contrast to most noncovalent interactions, covalent bonds can significantly enhance both the interfacial strength and durability. To utilize the advantages of covalent bonding, specific chemical reactions are designed to occur at interfaces. However, interfacial reactions are difficult to probe in situ, particularly at the buried interfaces found in well-bonded adhesive joints. In this work, sum frequency generational (SFG) vibrational spectroscopy was used to directly examine and analyze the interfacial chemical reactions and related molecular changes at buried nylon/silicone elastomer interfaces. For self-priming elastomeric silicone adhesives, silane coupling agents have been extensively used as adhesion promoters. Here with SFG, the interfacial chemical reactions between nylon and two alkoxysilane adhesion promoters with varied functionalities (maleic anhydride (MAH) and epoxy) formulated into the silicone were observed and investigated. Evidence of reactions between the organofunctional group of each silane and reactive groups on the polyamide was found at the buried interface between the cured silicone elastomer and nylon. The adhesion strength at the nylon/cured silicone interfaces was substantially enhanced with both silane additives. SFG results elucidated the mechanisms of organo-silane adhesion promotion for silicone at the molecular level. The ability to probe and analyze detailed interfacial reactions at buried nylon/silicone interfaces demonstrated that SFG is a powerful analytical technique to aid the design and optimization of materials with desired interfacial properties.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological features and differential diagnosis of NTRK3 gene rearrangement thyroid papillary carcinoma (PTC). Methods: The PTC cases without BRAF V600E mutation were collected at Fujian Provincial Hospital South Branch from January 2015 to January 2020. The cases of NTRK3 gene rearrangement PTC were examined using immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). The clinical data, histopathological characteristics, immunohistochemical features and molecular pathological changes were retrospectively analyzed. Data from the TCGA PTC dataset and the literature were also studied. Results: A total of 3 PTC cases harboring NTRK3 gene rearrangement were confirmed. All the patients were female, aged from 26,49,34 years. Histologically, two of them demonstrated a multinodular growth pattern. Only one case showed prominent follicular growth pattern; the other two tumors showed a mixture of follicular, papillary and solid growth patterns. All tumors showed a typical PTC nuclear manifestation, with some nuclear pleomorphism, vacuolated foci and oncocytic features. The characteristic formation of glomeruloid follicular foci was present in two cases which also showed psammoma bodies, and tumoral capsular or angiolymphatic invasion. The background thyroid parenchyma showed chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. Mitotic rates were low, and no cases had any tumor necrosis. The pan-TRK and TTF1 testing was both positive in 3 cases, while S-100 and mammaglobin were both negative in them. FISH studies confirmed the NTRK3 gene rearrangement in all 3 cases. Studies on the TCGA datasets and literature revealed similar findings. Conclusions: NTRK3 gene rearrangement PTC is rare. It may be easily misdiagnosed due to the lack of histological and clinicopathological characteristics. Molecular studies such as pan-TRK immunostaining, FISH and even next-generation sequencing are needed to confirm the diagnosis. Immunohistochemistry of pan-TRK performed in the PTC cases without BRAF V600E mutation can be used as a good rapid-screening tool. With the emergence of pan-cancer tyrosine receptor kinase inhibitors, proper diagnosis of these tumors can help determine appropriate treatments and improve their outcomes.

Abstract
Citrus canker, caused by Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri (Xcc), is a quarantine disease that seriously affects citrus production worldwide. The use of microorganisms and their products for biological control has been proven to be effective in controlling Xanthomonas disease. In this study, a novel Xcc antagonistic strain was isolated and identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens F9 by morphological and molecular analysis. The lipopeptide extract of B. amyloliquefaciens F9 (F9LE) effectively inhibited the growth of Xcc in an agar diffusion assay and restrained the occurrence of canker lesions in a pathogenicity test under greenhouse conditions. Consistent with these findings, F9LE treatment significantly inhibited the production of extracellular enzymes in Xcc cells and induced cell wall damage, with leakage of bacterial contents revealed by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analyses. In addition, F9LE also showed strong antagonistic activity against a wide spectrum of plant pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Furthermore, using electrospray ionization mass spectrometry analysis, the main antimicrobial compounds of strain F9 were identified as three kinds of lipopeptides, including homologues of surfactin, fengycin, and iturin. Taken together, our results show that B. amyloliquefaciens F9 and its lipopeptide components have the potential to be used as biocontrol agents against Xcc, and other plant pathogenic bacteria and fungi.

Abstract
The Dempster-Shafer evidence theory has been extensively used in various applications of information fusion owing to its capability in dealing with uncertain modeling and reasoning. However, when meeting highly conflicting evidence, the classical Dempster’s combination rule may give counter-intuitive results. To address this issue, we propose a new method in this work to fuse conflicting evidence. Firstly, a new evidence distance metric, named Belief Mover’s Distance, which is inspired by the Earth Mover’s Distance, is defined to measure the difference between two pieces of evidence. Subsequently, the credibility weight and distance weight of each piece of evidence are computed according to the Belief Mover’s Distance. Then, the final weight of each piece of evidence is generated by unifying these two weights. Finally, the classical Dempster’s rule is employed to fuse the weighted average evidence. Several examples and applications are presented to analyze the performance of the proposed method. Experimental results manifest that the proposed method is remarkably effective in comparison with other methods.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the prediction accuracy of intraocular lens (IOL) calculation formulas, and the impact of anterior chamber depth (ACD) and lens thickness (LT) measurement errors on IOL power calculation in patients undergoing combined phakic IOL (PIOL) removal and cataract surgery. DESIGN Retrospective, consecutive case series study. METHODS Thirty-six PIOL implanted eyes (12 anterior chamber PIOLs and 24 posterior chamber PIOLs [PC-PIOL]) undergoing cataract surgery were included. The prediction accuracy of new formulas (Barrett universal II, Emmetropia verifying optical, Kane, and Ladas super formula) and traditional formulas (Haigis, Hoffer Q, Holladay 1 and SRK/T) with or without Wang-Koch (WK) axial length (AL) adjustment was evaluated. The influence of ACD and LT measurement errors of IOLMaster 700 on refractive outcomes was also investigated. RESULTS The Kane and traditional formulas with WK AL adjustment had no significant systematic prediction error and displayed a smaller median absolute error, whereas the other formulas showed significant hyperopia shift (P < .05) and relatively lower prediction accuracy. The accuracy rate of IOLMaster 700 in measuring the ACD and LT was 100% in eyes with anterior chamber PIOL implantation, and 37.50% in the PC-PIOL subgroup. No significant difference was observed in refractive outcomes of formulas using correct and wrong parameters in the PC-PIOL subgroup (P > .05). CONCLUSIONS The Kane and traditional formulas with WK AL adjustment exhibited relatively higher prediction accuracy in patients who underwent combined PIOL removal and cataract surgery. The IOLMaster 700 displayed low accuracy in ACD and LT measurements for PC-PIOL implanted eyes, but showed negligible impact on IOL prediction accuracy.

Abstract
Osteoporosis is one of the leading forms of systemic diseases related to bone metabolism in the world. STARD3 N‐terminal like (STARD3NL) showed robust association with osteoporosis‐related traits. Yet, the molecular functional mechanisms of STARD3NL in osteoblasts is still obscure. In this study, we demonstrated a high level of STARD3NL expression in the bone tissues from the patients with low bone mass and ovariectomized (OVX)‐induced osteoporotic mice. We identified Stard3nl as a potent factor that negatively and positively regulates osteoblast differentiation and cell proliferation, respectively. Furthermore, inhibition of Stard3nl induced β‐catenin gene expression and the nuclear translocation of β‐catenin, as well as Wnt signalling activities, contributing to the activation of Wnt/β‐catenin signalling. Mechanistic studies revealed that Stard3nl bound with Annexin A2 (Anxa2) to suppress β‐catenin expression, resulting into the suppression of Wnt signalling and downstream osteogenic differentiation. Moreover, adeno‐associated virus 9 (AAV9)‐mediated silencing of Stard3nl reversed bone loss in OVX‐induced osteoporotic mice by the injection into the knee joints. Collectively, our study revealed that Stard3nl suppressed osteogenesis via binding with Anxa2, resulting into the inactivation of Wnt signalling. It also highlights the preventive and therapeutic potential of STARD3NL as a specific and novel target for osteoporotic patients.

Abstract
Mycoplasma capricolum subsp. capripneumoniae (Mccp) is the cause of contagious caprine pleuropneumonia (CCPP), which is a highly significant respiratory disease in goats leading to significant economic losses in Africa and Asia. Currently available procedures for the diagnosis of CCPP have some limitations in sensitivity, specificity, operation time, requirement of sophisticated equipment or skilled personnel, and cost. In this study, we developed a rapid, sensitive, and specific colloidal gold-based immunochromatographic assay (GICA) strip for the efficient on-site detection of antibodies against Mccp in the serum within 10 min. For the preparation of this colloidal GICA strip, recombinant P20 protein, the membrane protein of Mccp, was expressed by Escherichia coli prokaryotic expression system after purification was used as the binding antigen in the test. The rabbit anti-goat immunoglobulin G labeled with the colloidal gold was used as the detection probe, whereas the goat anti-rabbit immunoglobulin G was coated on the nitrocellulose membrane as the control line. The concentration of the coating antibody was optimized, and the effectiveness of this colloidal GICA strip was evaluated. Our results proved that the detection limit of the test strip was up to 1:64 dilutions for the Mccp antibody-positive serum samples with no cross-reactivity with other pathogens commonly infecting small ruminants, including goat pox virus, peste des petits ruminants virus, foot-and-mouth disease virus type A, or other mycoplasmas. Moreover, the colloidal GICA strip was more sensitive and specific than the indirect hemagglutination assay for the detection of Mccp antibodies. The 106 clinical serum samples were detected by the colloidal GICA strip compared with the complement fixation test, demonstrating an 87.74% concordance with the complement fixation test. This novel colloidal GICA strip would be an effective tool for the cost-effective and rapid diagnosis of CCPP in the field.

Abstract
Purpose: Mutations (K11E or E271K) of DEAD-box RNA helicase 24 (DDX24) were related to multi-organ venous lymphatic malformation syndrome (MOVLD). However, the relationship between these mutations and DDX24-function still remains unknown. Understanding whether K11E and E271K cause "loss-of-function" or "gain-of-function" for DDX24 is significant for related diseases. DDX24 was reported to be related to tumors closely, thus this study aims to explore how K11E and E271K affect DDX24-function in tumor proliferation. Methods: Cell lines stably expressing wild-type DDX24, K11E-DDX24, E271K-DDX24, along with vector only based on Chinese hamster ovary cells (CHO) and Balb/c tumor-bearing mice models were constructed. Then immunofluorescence staining, proliferation assay and colony formation assay in vitro and 18F-FDG PET/CT-scan were performed. Finally, the tumor tissues were collected to perform transcriptome sequencing to predict the potential mechanism. Results: Contrasted with CHO-WT-DDX24, CHO-K11E-DDX24 or CHO-E271K-DDX24 showed a decreased number of nucleoli, a slower proliferation rate and a lower colony formation rate significantly. Moreover, mice, inoculated with CHO-K11E-DDX24 or CHO-E271K-DDX24 cells, showed lower tumor formation rate, slower tumor growth rate, better prognosis, reduced standard uptake value and Ki of glucose in subcutaneous tumors. Sequencing indicated CHO-K11E-DDX24 or CHO-E271K-DDX24 caused increasing expression of TNF or chemokines and alteration in immune-related signal pathways. Conclusion: K11E or E271K mutation could lead to "loss-of-function" of DDX24 in cell proliferation and tumor bearing mice, which may be acted by non-specific immune killing to inhibit tumor growth.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the role of ubiquitin-specific peptidase 22 (USP22) in colorectal cancer multidrug resistance and its correlation with multidrug resistance genes P-gp and MRP1, and to preliminarily explore the mechanism of USP22 affecting colorectal cancer resistance. Methods: USP22 over-expression plasmid was transfected into colorectal cancer cells (RKO, SW480)with low expression of USP22. Cell counting kit (CCK-8) assay was used to detect the effect of USP22 on oxaliplatin resistance in colorectal cancer cells. The cells were treated with oxaliplatin of the same concentration. Western blot method was used to detect the expression of apoptosis-related proteins cleaved-caspase3, Bcl-2, and drug resistance proteins MRP1, P-gp in the cells. The cell efflux test was used to detect the effect of up-regulated USP22 on Calcein-AM and rhodamine123. Immunohistochemical methods were used to detect the expressions of USP22 and P-gp in the oxaliplatin chemotherapy-sensitive group and the drug-resistant group and to analyze the correlation between USP22 and MRP1, P-gp. Results: CCK-8 assay showed that the IC50 values of SW480-USP22 (SW480 cells overexpressing USP22) treated with oxaliplatin for 24 h and 48 h was (4.62±0.05)μmol/L and (2.32±0.04)μmol/L respectively; which was 2.7 times and 3.0 times higher than that in control cells, respectively. After treating with 1.25 μmol/L oxaliplatin for 48 h, USP22 overexpression can inhibit SW480 cells apoptosis. The fluorescence intensity of calcein-AM and rhodamine123 in the SW480-USP22 group were significantly increased when compared with that in the control cells (both P<0.01). The protein expression levels of MRP1 and P-gp in SW480-USP22 cells were significantly increased when compared with that in the control cells(both P<0.01). Immunohistochemistry showed that the positive expression rates of USP22, MRP1, and P-gp in the oxaliplatin chemotherapy-sensitive group were significantly lower than those in the chemotherapy-resistant group, the difference was statistically significant (all P<0.05), and USP22 was positively correlated with the expressions of MRP1 and P-gp in colorectal cancer tissues (r1=0.377, r2=0.423, both P<0.05). Conclusions: The up-regulation of USP22 is related to the acquired resistance of colorectal cancer cells to oxaliplatin. USP22 may be involved in the process of platinum-based chemotherapy resistance of colorectal cancer by regulating the expressions of P-gp and MRP1.

Abstract
An organocatalytic highly diastero- and enantioselective Friedel-Crafts conjugate addition of indolizines to prochiral cyclopentenediones has been successfully developed. This desymmetric transformation provides a direct access to the desired indolizine-substituted cyclopentanediones in yields of 62-91% and excellent stereoselectivities. The utility of the approach was demonstrated by diverse late-stage functionalizations through reduction or oxidation. Importantly, the direct sp2 C-H functionalization with nitromethane in one-pot process resulted in the indolizine-linked axially chiral styrene bearing a remote chiral center.

Abstract
Since distraction osteogenesis had been used in maxillofacial surgery in the 1990s,it has become an important option for treating maxillary hypoplasia in cleft lip and palate (CLP) patients. Numerous domestic and international studies reported that the prognosis of distraction osteogenesis might be affected by various factors, including the design of osteotomy line, type of distractor, advancement of maxillary bone and the age of patients, etc. Therefore, the present article reviewed possible impact factors that affect the effectiveness and outcomes of maxillary distraction osteogenesis of CLP from three aspects: treatment methods, type of patients and adjuvant therapy, which hopefully might benefit the formulation of treatment strategies in clinical work and improve the prognosis of distraction osteogenesis.

Abstract
Allergic asthma is a complex lung disease characterized by breathlessness, airway inflammation, and obstruction. Allergy and allergic rhinitis (AR) are the main triggers of asthma. Vitamin A is an important supplementary factor for the physiological activation of the immune system. In the present study, we investigated the effects of vitamin A on the exacerbation of allergic asthma symptoms. BALB/c mice were allocated to four groups. Asthma was created in two groups, and in the other two groups, rhinitis was induced. One of the asthma groups and one of the rhinitis groups orally received vitamin A (20 IU/g for 15 days). The levels of Immunoglobulin (Ig) E, histamine, leukotriene B4 (LTB4), Cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (Cys-LT), interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, IL-13, and IL-35 as well as eosinophil peroxidase activity, were measured. Also, the histopathology of mice lungs was evaluated. The levels of total IgE, LTB4, Cys-LT, IL-4, IL-5, IL-17, and IL-33, eosinophil peroxidase activity, perivascular and peribronchial inflammation significantly decreased in vitamin A-treated asthma and rhinitis groups compared to non-treated groups. Also, IL-13 and histamine levels, hyperplasia of the goblet cell, and hyper-secretion of the mucus insignificantly decreased in vitamin A-treated asthma and rhinitis groups. Asthma and AR are common diseases that are generally developed due to the dysregulation of the immune system. Vitamin A plays an important role in controlling the immunopathologic mechanisms of allergic diseases. Vitamin A could be a useful supplement in managing AR and asthma by decreasing the severity of inflammatory responses. Therefore, control of vitamin A deficiency is recommended in Allergy.
