The Authors report their experience using Harrington rods with segmental wiring for spinal pathology. They describe the advantages of this technical point in neoplastic and traumatological dorsal compression.

The anterior approach and plates in lower cervical posttraumatic lesions

Between 1949 and 1982, 290 patients were operated on for lesions of the lower cervical spine. Since 1970 the combined use of the anterior approach and more and more sophisticated osteosynthesis equipment has led us to revise our therapeutic policy with regard to 160 patients. The results, advantages, and disadvantages of this policy are discussed hereafter.

Use of acrylic prosthesis in cervical spine pathology (report of 45 cases)

The authors report on their experience with the use of a reinforced acrylic prosthesis in cervical spine pathology. The study of their own 45 cases enables the advantages and disadvantages of the technique to be demonstrated. A discussion of possible improvements in the technique and its indication completes the report.

A giant intrasacral schwannoma revealed by lumbosacral pain

A case of giant intrasacral schwannoma is reported. This tumour was revealed by a lumbosacral pain without any neurological deficit. It appears that the lesion is surrounded by a dense layer of nucleated cells which resemble immature cells. This corona of young cells could explain the tremendous size of this tumour.

[Role of surgical decompression by the anterior approach in myeloradiculopathies caused by cervical arthrosis. Apropos of 850 cases]

The authors report their experience of the different clinical aspects of myeloradiculopathy due to cervical arthrosis. From 850 cases with surgical treatment, they describe the radicular, medullar and radiculomedullar features of this condition. The indications for an anterior decompressive procedure are analyzed according to clinical and paraclinical findings and results of the different methods used are compared.

Cyst of the choroid plexus of the left lateral ventricle

A cyst of the choroid plexus of the left ventricle is described. The cyst was lined by a choroidal epithelium and filled with cerebrospinal fluid. It produced an intermittent obstructive syndrome. The cyst was almost completely invaginated into the third ventricle, simulating an expanding process in the third ventricle. After microsurgical removal, the recovery of the patient was complete. Electronmicroscopy of the cyst wall is reported. Histological and neuroradiological features are discussed.
