Radiation therapy in primary carcinoma of the vagina

The experiences with irradiation of 25 patients with primary carcinoma of the vagina are presented. The 3-year survival was 36 per cent despite the fact that most of the cases were advanced. Further improvements in survival may probably be achieved with extension of the radium implantation to paravaginal tissues. Choice and technique of treatment must be individualized. Surgery is limited to the more advanced cases with involvement of the bladder and rectum.

Excess Volumes and Isentropic Compressibilities of Binary Mixtures of an Alcohol and Isobutyl Methyl Ketone

Excess volumes and isentropic compressibilities for the binary mixtures of propan-1-ol, butan-1-ol, pentan-1-ol, hexan-1-ol with isobutyl methyl ketone were determined at 303.15 and 313.15 K. Excess volumes of the four mixtures are negative over the whole range of compositions at both the temperatures. Deviations in isentropic compressibility are also negative in all cases, except for propan-1-ol + isobutyl methyl ketone. In this system, the deviation in isentropic compressibility shows an inversion in sign at 303.15 K.

Flory theory and excess thermodynamic properties of liquid mixtures containing one polar component

Excess volumes of the binary mixtures, benzene + benzonitrile, benzene+ diethyl ketone and toluene+diethyl ketone, were determined at 303.15 K. The VE data and HE data of the mixtures reported in the literature were analysed in the light of both the original and modified forms of the Flory theory. The analysis showed that the modified Flory theory correctly predicts the sign of the excess functions over the whole range of composition when the single interaction parameter of the theory is treated as an energy parameter.
