Abstract
1. Leukemic Swiss mice of ICR/Ha strain which had been injected at birth with a lymphoid-leukemia-inducing virus preparation yielded sera which produced elevations of serum colony-stimulating activity within 16 hr and significant plasma-LDH-enzyme elevation at 4 days when injected intraperitoneally into normal ICR/Ha Swiss mice. Colony-stimulating activity was assayed in vitro by the stimulation of hemopoietic colony formation by DBA/1 bone marrow cells. 2. The inducing agent in leukemic serum was passageable, filterable, sedimentable, and heat-, ether-, and UV-labile. 3. A similar agent was recovered from normal Swiss serum after blind serial passages through normal mice. 4. LDH elevating virus induced a similar elevation of serum colony-stimulating activity when injected at high titers, and cross-resistance was demonstrated between LDH virus and the passaged leukemic serum agent.

Abstract
Nine sympathomimetic compounds were infused intravenously in man, and their effects on the level of plasma free fatty acids, pulse rate, and blood pressure were recorded. Each compound raised the level of plasma free fatty acids. Its activity in this respect could be correlated with its activity in producing Beta-adrenergic effects on the circulation; both effects were abolished by pretreatment with propranolol. It is concluded that sympathomimetic compounds that stimulate -receptors will raise the plasma concentration of free fatty acids.

Abstract
An attempt has been made to redetermine the enthalpy and entropy of formation of the charge-transfer complex between tetracyanoethylene and biphenylene in dichloromethane solution from measurements of the equilibrium constant at different temperatures. The results obtained under conditions where biphenylene is in excess differ from those previously published in which tetracyanoethylene was in excess. It is argued that the optimum condition for determining equilibrium constants of a 1:1 complex is when the reactants are mixed in solution in this ratio. Determinations under this condition yield ΔH = −2.6 kcal mole−1 and ΔS = −4.1 e.u.The energies of the intermolecular charge-transfer transitions of biphenylene with several different acceptors suggest that the ionization potential of biphenylene is ~7.4 eV.

Abstract
A description is given of laboratory and field trials with a new molluscicide, Bayer 73. Following successful laboratory trials at one part per million, a river containing much vegetation and many semi-stagnant pools was treated at this dosage, the application resulting in a complete disappearance of snails and eggs for a minimum distance of 3 miles below the point of application. It is suggested however that caution must be exercised in assessing the results of molluscicide treatments as the usual population sampling techniques may have serious defects at low population densities. The malacological field data are supported by chemical analyses. Further trials are planned as there is evidence that the dosage employed was excessive.
