Abstract
In addition to filtering some sediments, hydrophobic wood sponges can also absorb many organic solvents, particularly crude oil. The leakage of crude oil poses a serious threat to the marine ecosystem, and oil mixed with water also generates great danger for its use. From the perspective of low cost and high performance, wood sponges exhibit great potential for dealing with crude oil pollution. Wood sponge is a renewable material. With a highly oriented layered structure and a highly compressible three-dimensional porous frame, wood sponges are extremely hydrophobic, making them ideal for oil-water separation. Currently, the most common approach for creating wood sponge is to first destroy the wood cell wall to obtain a porous-oriented layered structure and then enhance the oil-water separation ability via superhydrophobic treatment. Wood sponge prepared using various experimental methods and different natural woods exhibits distinctive properties in regards to robustness, compressibility, fatigue resistance, and oil absorption ability. As an aerogel material, wood sponge offers multi-action (absorption, filtration) and reusable oil-water separation functions. This paper introduces the advantages of the use of wood sponge for oil-water separation. The physical and chemical properties of wood sponge and its mechanism of adsorbing crude oil are explained. The synthesis method and the properties are discussed. Finally, the use of wood sponge is summarized and prospected.

Abstract
Calotropis procera fibres have been proposed for free-phase diesel removal in case of spillage into groundwater. For this, characterizations were carried out using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM), wettability and contact angle measurements. Sorption oil capacity, kinetic, isothermal and recycling behaviour were evaluated. For initial optimization of the oil sorption capacity, an experimental design (DOE) was applied, with the optimized condition being 60 g L-1 of diesel in water and 0.01 g of fibre. Then, the results clearly indicated that the fibres have a hydrophobic and oleophilic character, quickly reaching more than 71.43 g g-1 of diesel sorption, according to the adjustment (R² > 0.99) of the pseudo-second order and Langmuir models, governed by absorption mechanisms. It should also be noted that at the end of 8 reuse cycles, the fibre presented a total accumulated sorption capacity of about 252.6 g g-1 of diesel. Furthermore, a laboratory-scale experiment was carried out to remove diesel from groundwater in gas station areas, the fibre removed 98.55% to 99.97% of removal efficiencies were achieved of the free phase over time. Therefore, the material demonstrates excellent characteristics for removing diesel spills in groundwater due to its fast, high and stable removal capacity.

Abstract
This study aimed to prepare open-cell foams using a blend of long-chain branched polypropylene and polyolefin elastomer (LCBPP/POE) for the production of reusable oil absorbents. The supercritical CO2 foaming process was conducted using a two-step batch rapid depressurization method. This unique two-step foaming approach significantly expanded the temperature and pressure windows, resulting in more uniform cells with smaller sizes, ultimately leading to higher expansion ratios and an increased open cell content. The foaming process was optimized by adjusting parameters, such as the LCBPP/POE ratio, foaming temperature, and foaming pressure, reaching a maximum open cell content of 97.6% and a maximum expansion ratio of 48. The influence of polypropylene (PP) crystallization was investigated with the aid of scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Furthermore, the hydrophobic and lipophilic characteristics of the LCBPP/POE open-cell foam were determined via contact angle measurements and oil/water separation tests. Oil absorption tests revealed that the blended LCBPP/POE foam has a higher oil absorption capacity than that of the pure LCBPP foam. The cyclic oil absorption tests demonstrated the outstanding ductility and recoverability of the LCBPP/POE open-cell foam in comparison to those of the pure LCBPP foam. Over 10 cycles, the LCBPP/POE foam maintained a substantial adsorption capacity, retaining 99.3% of its initial oil absorption capacity. With its notable features, including a high open cell content, excellent hydrophobic and lipophilic characteristics, superior oil absorption capacity, impressive cyclic oil absorption performance, and robust reusability, LCBPP/POE open-cell foams exhibit significant promise as potential oil adsorbents for use in oil spill cleanup applications.

Abstract
Carbon aerogel is a promising material in various applications, such as water treatment, insulators, catalysts, and sensors, due to its porosity, low density, conductivity, and good chemical stability. In this study, an inexpensive carbon aerogel was prepared through lyophilization and post-pyrolysis using waste paper. However, carbon aerogel, in the form of short belts, is randomly entangled without a crosslinking agent and has weak mechanical properties, thus limiting its applications, which would otherwise be various. In this paper, a novel strategy is proposed to fabricate a PDMS-coated carbon aerogel (Aerogel@PDMS). Benefiting from microwave heating, precise PDMS coating onto the carbon frame was able to be carried out in a short amount of time. PDMS coating firmly tied the carbon microstructure, maintaining a unique aerogel property without blocking its porous structure. FE-SEM, RAMAN, XPS, and FT-IR were all used to confirm the surface change in PDMS coating. Compressible stability and water contact angle measurement showed that Aerogel@PDMS is a perspective organic solvent absorbent due to its good resilience and its hydrophobicity, and, as a result, its organic solvent absorption capacity and repeated absorption were evaluated, ultimately suggesting a promising material in oil clean-up and pollution remediation in water. Based on our experimental results, we identified elastic carbon aerogels provided by a novel coating technology. In the future, then, the developed carbon/PDMS composite can be examined as a promising option for various applications, such as environmental sensors, virus sensors, and wearable sensors.

Abstract
Polylactide (PLA) nanofiber membranes with enhanced hydrophilic properties were prepared through electrospinning. As a result of their poor hydrophilic properties, common PLA nanofibers have poor hygroscopicity and separation efficiency when used as oil-water separation materials. In this research, cellulose diacetate (CDA) was used to improve the hydrophilic properties of PLA. The PLA/CDA blends were successfully electrospun to obtain nanofiber membranes with excellent hydrophilic properties and biodegradability. The effects of the additional amount of CDA on the surface morphology, crystalline structure, and hydrophilic properties of the PLA nanofiber membranes were investigated. The water flux of the PLA nanofiber membranes modified with different CDA amounts was also analyzed. The addition of CDA improved the hygroscopicity of the blended PLA membranes; the water contact angle of the PLA/CDA (6/4) fiber membrane was 97.8°, whereas that of the pure PLA fiber membrane was 134.9°. The addition of CDA enhanced hydrophilicity because it tended to decrease the diameter of PLA fibers and thus increased the specific surface area of the membranes. Blending PLA with CDA had no significant effect on the crystalline structure of the PLA fiber membranes. However, the tensile properties of the PLA/CDA nanofiber membranes worsened due to the poor compatibility between PLA and CDA. Interestingly, CDA endowed the nanofiber membranes with improved water flux. The water flux of the PLA/CDA (8/2) nanofiber membrane was 28,540.81 L/m2·h, which was considerably higher than that of the pure PLA fiber membrane (387.47 L/m2·h). The PLA/CDA nanofiber membranes can be feasibly applied as an environmentally friendly oil-water separation material because of their improved hydrophilic properties and excellent biodegradability.

Abstract
Herein, mechanically robust and flexible graphene oxide/polyimide (GO/PI) hybrid aerogels (GIAs) were fabricated by a facile method, in which the mixed suspensions of the water-soluble polyimide precursor and graphene oxide (GO) sheets were freeze-dried, which was followed by a routine thermal imidation process. The porous GIAs obtained not only exhibit excellent elasticity and extremely low density values (from 33.3 to 38.9 mg.cm-3), but they also possess a superior compressive strength (121.7 KPa). The GIAs could support a weight of up to 31,250 times of its own weight, and such a weight-carrying capacity is much higher than that of other typical carbon-based aerogels. Having such a porous structure, and high strength and toughness properties make GIAs ideal candidates for oil spill cleanup materials. The oil/organic solvents' absorption capacity ranges from 14.6 to 85, which is higher than that of most other aerogels (sponges). With their broad temperature tolerance and acidic stability, the unique multifunctional GIAs are expected to further extend their application range into extreme environments.

Abstract
Three-dimensional superhydrophobic/superlipophilic porous materials have attracted widespread attention for use in the separation of oil/water mixtures. However, a simple strategy to prepare superhydrophobic porous materials capable of efficient and continuous separation of immiscible and emulsified oil/water mixtures has not yet been realized. Herein, a superhydrophobic graphene/polystyrene composite material with a micro-nanopore structure was prepared by a single-step reaction through high internal phase emulsion polymerization. Graphene was introduced into the polystyrene-based porous materials to not only enhance the flexibility of the matrix, but also increase the overall hydrophobicity of the composite materials. The resulting as-prepared monoliths had excellent mechanical properties, were superhydrophobic/superoleophilic (water/oil contact angles were 151° and 0°, respectively), and could be used to continuously separate immiscible oil/water mixtures with a separation efficiency that exceeded 99.6%. Due to the size-dependent filtration and the tortuous and lengthy micro-nano permeation paths, our foams were also able to separate surfactant-stabilized water-in-oil microemulsions. This work demonstrates a facile strategy for preparing superhydrophobic foams for the efficient and continuous separation of immiscible and emulsified oil/water mixtures, and the resulting materials have highly promising application potentials in large-scale oily wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Floating vessel-type oil collecting devices based on sorbent materials present potential solutions to oil spill cleanup that require a massive amount of sorbent material and manual labor. Additionally, continuous oil extraction from these devices presents opportunities for highly energy-efficient oil skimmers that use gravity as the oil/water separation mechanism. Herein, a sorbent-based oil skimmer (SOS) is developed with a novel funnel-shaped sorbent and vessel design for efficient and continuous extraction of various oils from the water surface. A carbon black (CB) embedded polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) sponge material is characterized and used as the sorbent in the SOS. The nanocomposite sponge formulation is optimized for high reusability, hydrophobicity, and rapid oil absorption. Joule heating functionality of the sponge is also explored to rapidly absorb highly viscous oils that are a significant challenge for oil spill cleanup. The optimized sponge material with the highest porosity and 15 wt% CB loading is tested in the SOS for large-scale oil spill extraction tests and shows effective cleaning of oil spilled on the water surface. The SOS demonstrates a high maximum extraction rate of 200 mL/min for gasoline and maintains a high extraction rate performance upon reuse when the sponge funnel is cleaned and dried.

Abstract
Nanoparticle-polymer composites hold promise in enabling material functionalities that are difficult to achieve otherwise, yet are hampered to date by the scarce control and tunability of the nanoparticle collective properties on the polymer surface, especially for polymer foams featuring a complex three-dimensional pore network. Here we report on the controlled and conformal in situ coating of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) foams with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with surface coverage finely tunable over a large range, from 0 to 75%, via the one-step room temperature reduction of AgF directly on the PDMS surface. This enables the design of AgNP electrical networks on the PDMS foam surface with piezo-resistive properties tunable up to a factor of 1000. We leveraged the control of the piezoresistive properties of the AgNP electrical network formed on PDMS foams to fabricate flexible and wearable pressure sensors with sensitivity of 0.41 kPa-1, an operation range >120 kPa, and a detection limit of 25 Pa. As a proof-of-concept application in wearable biomedical electronics, we successfully used the sensors to monitor the real-time radial artery pulse wave on the human wrist of a young male with high resolution.

Abstract
According to the kinematics analysis of the human body, a set of exoskeleton mechanical structures is designed to imitate the physiological structure and movement characteristics of the lower limbs of humans. To study the biomechanical characteristics of the exoskeleton in two different phases during walking and to provide a research basis for the design and optimization of the exoskeleton. Doctors and engineers are actively committed to the basic understanding and improvement of the tissue characteristics, structure, and function of the human musculoskeletal system. Firstly, according to the gait analysis of the lower limbs, the exoskeleton mechanical structure is designed by using three-dimensional modeling software. After the solid model is generated, the assembly, meshing, and element attribute assignment are carried out by using finite element software. And the face-to-face contact relationship between each building is established, and the stress distribution of the exoskeleton is simulated and analyzed. The stress distribution of the exoskeleton under different working conditions is significantly different. Since the calculation does not take into account uncertainties such as shocks that may occur during walking, it is necessary to consider and multiply a certain safety factor when designing the optimized exoskeleton.

Abstract
ABSTRACT
To meet the requirement in the application of medical devices, composites, biomaterials, corrosion resistance, and selective adsorptions, rubber surface modification is usually indispensable. Grafting treatment is one of most significate treatment methods. In this paper, we focus on rubber surface grafting modification, including grafting techniques and applications. Different grafting methods—including monomer grafting polymerization and coupling reaction—are covered and compared briefly. The related applications of surface grafting modification techniques, such as improving compatibility of waste rubber as fillers, hydrophobicity and lipophilicity of sponge rubber for oil–water separation, biocompatibility of rubber in the medical field, and forming surface patterns, are demonstrated in detail. The new research directions of surface grafting techniques as well as main challenges in application are also discussed.

Abstract
Natural polymers have aroused increasing attention in water treatment but their application in removing hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) was limited due to their hydrophilicity. Herein, hydrophobic aerogels were successfully fabricated from Pickering emulsions stabilized by chitin nanofibers (ChNF) with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as dispersed phase and glutaraldehyde as a crosslinking agent, and their performance in HOCs removal were evaluated. The Pickering emulsions with PDMS ratios of 2.5-20% v/v showed high stability, demonstrating great potential as aerogel templates. The solidified PDMS droplets were evenly distributed within the matrix, contributing to homogeneous and permanent hydrophobicity. The composite aerogels with water contact angles of over 130° could selectively remove non-aqueous phase HOCs from water. The CCl4 adsorption capacity was 521-2820 wt%, depending on PDMS contents. Meanwhile, the mechanical resilience of the composite aerogels was significantly improved, facilitating the adsorbent regeneration by simple mechanical squeezing. The adsorption capacity remained above 85% for 24 cycles. Moreover, the aerogels could also remove dissolved HOCs from water with a maximum adsorption capacity of 1.34 mg/g for 10 mg/L TCE. This work reveals the potential of Pickering emulsions in the fabrication of composite hydrophobic materials from natural biopolymers with promising application in HOCs related water treatment.

Abstract
Developing functional materials integrating multi-tasking oil/water separation performances is significant but challenging for the remediation of large-scale oil spills causing pernicious environmental damages. Herein, a novel Concus Finn Capillary driven oil sorbent (OSCPF) fabricated by aligning superhydrophobic cruciate polyester fibers based on yarn spinning mechanism is designed to realize the clean-up of oil spills and various oil/water mixtures at high speeds. Instantaneous oil diffusion is achieved by abrupt Concus Finn Capillary driven oil-flows along aligned channels. This advance reduces the penetrating time for viscous crude oils by 95.00% comparing with that of non-oriented circular polyester fibers. The OSCPF possess great oil sorption capacity of 54.36-124.71 g/g and can separate oils from immiscible oil/water mixtures, including seawater, soap-water, CuCl2-water, and KMnO4-water, and surfactant-stabilized O/W emulsions by the way of adsorption with satisfactory separation efficiency (99.41-99.83%). Especially, the OSCPF is effectively used to enclose oil spills to prevent rapid oil diffusion and in-situ continuously collect the spillages from water surface and underwater by pumping device with recovery rates of 15,727-104,227 L·m-2·h-1. Considering the unique structural design, fast oil sorption speed, and low operating cost, this work provides a prospective oil remover addressing the remediation of catastrophic multi-tasking oil/water pollutions.

Abstract
In this paper, effective separation of oil from both immiscible oil-water mixtures and oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions are achieved by using poly(dimethylsiloxane)-based (PDMS-based) composite sponges. A modified hard template method using citric acid monohydrate as the hard template and dissolving it in ethanol is proposed to prepare PDMS sponge composited with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) both in the matrix and the surface. The introduction of CNTs endows the composite sponge with enhanced comprehensive properties including hydrophobicity, absorption capacity, and mechanical strength than the pure PDMS. We demonstrate the successful application of CNT-PDMS composite in efficient removal of oil from immiscible oil-water mixtures within not only a bath absorption, but also continuous separation for both static and turbulent flow conditions. This notable characteristic of the CNT-PDMS sponge enables it as a potential candidate for large-scale industrial oil-water separation. Furthermore, a polydopamine (PDA) modified CNT-PDMS is developed here, which firstly realizes the separation of O/W emulsion without continuous squeezing of the sponge. The combined superhydrophilic and superoleophilic property of PDA/CNT-PDMS is assumed to be critical in the spontaneously demulsification process.

Abstract
An innovative approach of chitosan-derived biodegradable sponges with high sorption capacity, excellent recyclability, and inherent oleophilic properties have been developed for the first time to remove the crude oil polluting the environment. Chitosan-nitrogen mustard ionic carbonate-β-cyclodextrin (CH-NMIC-CD), chitosan-nitrogen mustard ionic carbonate (CH-NMIC), and chitosan (CH) sponges with macropores were prepared using tripolylphosphate (TPP) by adopting subsequent lyophilization. Detailed characterization such as FTIR, TGA, XRD, and SEM has been done to confirm the formation, stability, crystalline nature, and morphology of the prepared sponges. The FTIR spectra confirmed the successful incorporation of NMIC in CH-NMIC-CD and CH-NMIC and the presence of β-CD in the (CH-NMIC-CD). It was found from the TGA results that the presence of β-CD makes the sponge CH-NMIC-CD stable. SEM analysis showed the morphology of the sponges found to be highly porous with interconnected macropores. The oil absorption capacity was 12.30 goil/gns higher for the sponge CH-NMIC-CD followed by CH-NMIC and CH. The sponges showed reusability excellently even after consecutive sorption-desorption separation cycles for five times. Moreover, the sponges were completely biodegraded within 25 days. The finding holds a promising future to use CH-NMIC-CD sponges in pollutant entrapment particularly in the removal of crude oil and allied area.

Abstract
The highly efficient treatment of azo dye contaminated wastewater from the textile industry is an important but challenging problem. Herein, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) microparticles, incorporating multiple-walled carbon nanotubes/titanium dioxide (MWCNTs/TiO2) nanocomposites, were successfully synthesized to treat wastewater containing Rhodamine B (RhB) dyes in a synergetic approach, by combining sorption and photocatalytic degradation. The surfactant wrapping sol-gel method was applied to synthesize MWCNTs/TiO2 nanocomposites with TiO2 nanoparticles evenly distributed on the surface of the MWCNTs. The PDMS microparticles were fabricated with an oil-in-water (O/W) single emulsion template, using needle-based microfluidic devices. MWCNTs/TiO2 nanocomposites (at a weight ratio of 1%, and 2%, respectively) were mixed with the PDMS precursor as the dispersed phase, and an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was used as the continuous phase. Highly monodispersed microparticles, with average diameters of 692.7 μm (Coefficient of Variation, CV = 0.74%) and 678.3 μm (CV = 1.04%), were formed at an applied flow rate of the dispersed and continuous phase of 30 and 200 μL min-1, respectively. The fabricated hybrid microparticles were employed for the treatment of RhB, involving a dark equilibrium for 5 hours and UV irradiation for 3 hours. The experimental conditions of applied PDMS type, mass loading amount, treatment duration, photodegradation kinetics, initial concentration of pollutants and environmental pH values were investigated in this work. The PDMS microparticles with 2 wt% MWCNTs/TiO2 nanocomposites can exhibit a removal efficiency of 85%. Remarkably, an efficiency of 70% can be retained after the microparticles have been recycled and reused for 3 cycles. The PDMS-MWCNTs/TiO2 microparticles possess a superior performance over conventional treatment approaches for dye contaminated wastewater, especially in recyclability and the prevention of secondary pollution. This work provides a feasible and eco-friendly route for developing an efficient and low-cost microfluidic method for treating complicated water environmental systems.

Abstract
The development of polymer sponges with large adsorption capacity, high oil/water selectivity and mechanical stability is an effective strategy for the separation of oil from oil-polluted water. The improvement in the adsorption performance for polymer sponges should not be accompanied by the sacrifice of mechanical properties and recycling stability, which are fundamental to their long-term operation in the cleanup of oil-spill accidents. In this work, we synthesized a robust and reusable sponge based on a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) frame coated stereoscopically with graphene oxide (GO) via the amidation between PDMS and GO. The combination of the PDMS skeleton with the robust macroporous structure and GO nanosheets acting as mechanical fortifiers contributes to the nanocomposite sponge with great integrity and durability. The resultant PDMS/GO nanocomposite sponge exhibited a high compressive strength of 42.7 kPa with a strain of 60% after 50 cycles. The high adsorption capacity for various oils and organic solvents was obtained in the nanocomposite sponge, and the maximum capacity of 14.6 g g-1 was achieved for chloroform, which is ascribed to the large porosity and hydrophobicity caused by the rough PDMS skeleton covered by the GO nanosheets. Furthermore, a vacuum device with the nanocomposite sponge demonstrated effective separation for a large amount of oil/water mixture, with the maximum separation of 724 times the sponge weight during adsorption. This work provides a productive approach to develop porous polymer nanocomposites with high absorption properties and mechanical cycling stability and paves the path for the application of polymer sponges in oil pollution.

Abstract
Biosorbents have been highlighted as an alternative method for the removal of contaminants from spills or leaks of oil and its derivatives, since they are biodegradable, are highly available, low-cost, and have a good sorption capacity. This research investigated the sorption capacity of Calotropis procera fiber in natura (CP) and thermally treated (150 °C and 200 °C) for crude oil removal and recovery. The oil sorption tests were carried out in a dry and water (layer) static systems. The assays revealed that CP fiber has excellent hydrophobic-oil properties and good crude oil sorption capacity, about 75 times its own weight (76.32 g/g). The results of the treated fibers, CPT150 and CPT200, showed oil sorption capacities (in 24 h) higher than CP, between 94.31–103.37 g/g and 124.60–180.95 g/g, respectively. The results from sample CPT200 showed that it can be an excellent biosorbent for the removal of crude oil and other derivatives due to its high hydrophobicity, great reuse/resorption capacity, and ability to retain oil within the fiber lumens. Thus, it can be applied in the recovery, cleaning, and removal of petroleum products and its derivatives from spills and leaks in the future.

Abstract
Polyimide (PI) aerogels have attracted great attention owing to their low density and excellent thermal stability. However, hydrophobic surface modification is required for PI aerogels to improve their ability in oil/water separation due to their amphiphilic characteristic. Two-dimensional MXenes (transition metal carbides/nitrides) can be utilized as nanofillers to enhance the properties of polymers because of their unique layered structure and versatile interface chemistry. Herein, the robust, lightweight, and hydrophobic PI/MXene three-dimensional architectures were fabricated via freeze-drying of polyamide acid/MXene suspensions and thermal imidization. Polyamide acid was synthesized using N-N-dimethylacetamide and 4,4'-oxydianiline. MXene (Ti3C2Tx) dispersion was obtained via the etching of Ti3AlC2 and ultrasonic exfoliation. Taking advantage of the strong interaction between PI chains and MXene nanosheets, the interconnected, highly porous, and hydrophobic PI/MXene aerogels with low density were fabricated, resulting in the improved compressive performance, remarkable oil absorption capacity, and efficient separation of oil and water. For the PI/MXene-3 aerogel (weight ratio, 5.2:1) without any surface modification, the water contact angle was 119° with a density of 23 mg/cm3. This aerogel can completely recover to its original height after 50 compression-release cycles, exhibiting superelasticity and exceptional fatigue-resistant ability. It also showed high absorption capacities to various organic liquids ranging from approximately 18 to 58 times of their own weight. This hybrid aerogel can rapidly separate the chloroform, soybean oil, and liquid paraffin from the water-oil system. The thermally stable hybrid aerogel also exhibited excellent fire safety properties and outstanding reusability under an extreme environment.

Abstract
Three-dimensional porous material holds enormous potential in the field of life science and environmental protection. In this work, we proposed a facile route for the large-scale synthesis of porous poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) sponge via paraffin oil based emulsion technique. A stable emulsion could be formed by emulsifying water in the PDMS solution with the aid of paraffin oil. Moreover, the amount of emulsified water in 5 g of PDMS solution is as high as 35 g, and the skeleton of the prepared PDMS sponge is still in intact. This method is cost-effective, rapid, and easily scaled up. The water contact angle of the obtained PDMS sponge is 141.9 ± 1°, and the absorption capacities of the sponges are 13.5-33.3 g g-1 for various organic solvents. The PDMS sponge only needed 0.069 MPa force to realize the compression ratio of 90%, which it still maintained after over 50 cycles of compression. In addition, the porous PDMS sponge exhibited an excellent oil absorption and an outstanding reusability, which were potentially useful in water purification.

Abstract
Flexible, highly sensitive, easy fabricating process, low-cost pressure sensors are the trend for flexible electronic devices. Inspired by the softness, comfortable, environmental friendliness and harmless of natural latex mattress, herein, we report an agile approach of constructing a flexible 3D-architectured conductive network by dip-coating silver nanowires (AgNWs) on the natural rubber latex foam (NRLF) substrate that provide the 3D micro-network structure as the skeleton. The variation of the contact transformed into the electrical signal among the conductive three-dimensional random networks during compressive deformation is the piezoresistive effect of AgNWs/NRLF pressure sensors. The resulting AgNWs/NRLF pressure sensors exhibit desirable electrical conductivity (0.45-0.50 S/m), excellent flexibility (58.57 kPa at 80% strain), good hydrophobicity (~128° at 5th dip-coated times) and outstanding repeatability. The AgNWs/NRLF sensors can be assembled on a glove to detect hand motion sensitively such as bending, touching and holding, show potential application such as artificial skin, human prostheses and health monitoring in multifunctional pressure sensors.

Abstract
Natural rubber/rGO composite foam was used as an oil sorbent. Addition of rGO enhanced the oil adsorption capacity and strength of NR sorbent foam. Inclusion of 0.5 phr rGO into NR increased the crude oil adsorption capacity to 17.04 g g−1. Oil adsorption mechanism of the sorbent materials was proposed. Reusability of the NR/rGO sorbent was greater than 70% oil adsorption for 30 cycles.
A green sorbent material was fabricated through the simple addition of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to natural rubber (NR) latex. The effect of rGO content in the NR foam on petroleum oil adsorption was investigated. The addition of rGO in NR increased the petroleum oil adsorption capacity of the resulting NR/rGO (NRG) composite foam (12–21 g g−1) with respect to those of the pure NR foam (8–15 g g−1) and a commercial sorbent (6–7 g g−1). The adsorption capacity was optimal for 0.5 phr rGO (NRG-0.5). Further, the environmental conditions (temperature and waves) affected the oil adsorption capacity of the sorbent materials. The adsorption kinetics of the sorbent materials for crude AXL oil was best described with pseudo-second-order kinetics. The interparticle diffusion model revealed three steps whereas the adsorption isotherms approximated the Langmuir isotherms. Moreover, the oil adsorption mechanisms of the NR and NRG sorbent materials were compared to that of a commercial sorbent. The high elasticity of the NRG-0.5 composite foam improved not only the oil adsorption capacity but also the reusability of the sorbent material. The presence of rGO increased the strength of the NRG-0.5 compared to that of pure NR, which resulted in a high-performance and reusable material with an oil removal efficiency higher than 70% after 30 uses.

Abstract
Pickering high internal-phase emulsions (HIPEs) and porous materials derived from the Pickering HIPEs have received increased attention in various research fields. Nevertheless, nondegradable inorganic and synthetic stabilizers present toxicity risks, thus greatly limiting their wider applications. In this work, we successfully developed nontoxic porous materials through the Pickering HIPE-templating process without chemical reactions. The obtained porous materials exhibited appreciable absorption capacity to corn oil and reached the state of saturated absorption within 3 min. The Pickering HIPE templates were stabilized by gliadin-chitosan complex particles (GCCPs), in which the volume fraction of the dispersed phase (90%) was the highest of all reported food-grade-particle-stabilized Pickering HIPEs so far, further contributing to the interconnected pore structure and high porosity (>90%) of porous materials. The interfacial particle barrier (Pickering mechanism) and three-dimensional network formed by the GCCPs in the continuous phase play crucial roles in stabilization of HIPEs with viscoelastic and self-supporting attributes and also facilitate the development of porous materials with designed pore structure. These materials, with favorable biocompatibility and biodegradability, possess excellent application prospects in foods, pharmaceuticals, materials, environmental applications, and so on.

Abstract
This work reports the photothermally driven horizontal motion of a motor as well as the suspending and vertical movements underwater. A motor is designed by attaching two polydimethylsiloxane-coated oxidized copper foams (POCF) to the two opposite sides of an oxidized copper foam (OCF). When the hydrophobic POCF is immersed in water, it serves as both an air bubble trapper and a light-to-heat conversion center. As bubbles grow under photothermal heating, they provide lifting force and result in the revolving motion of the motor. With removal of light illumination, bubbles are cooled by the surrounding water and shrink, and the buoyance is lowered. The resultant force of gravitational force, buoyance, and fluid resistance drives the motor to move forward horizontally. Furthermore, the motors are utilized as oil collectors and oil/water separation is achieved successfully. To effectively control the suspending motion, a polydimethylsiloxane foam doped with carbon black (C-foam) is designed under the photothermal principle. It is maintained at a certain position underwater by controlling the on/off of light. The vertical motion is also studied and utilized to generate electricity. It is expected that different types of underwater motion will open up new opportunities for various applications including drug delivery, collection of heavy oil underwater, and electricity generation.

Abstract
Severe environmental and ecological issues arising from frequent oil spill accidents have been great worldwide concerns. Considering the abruptness, complex condition, and long-term perniciousness of the spilled oil, the development of economic and versatile materials to quickly remove oil contaminants, especially for oil with high viscosity from a large water body, is of significant importance but remains a big challenge. Herein, we demonstrated a facile strategy to fabricate a versatile hierarchical structured sponge with superhydrophobicity and powerful oil capillarity via the in situ polymerization of a novel phenolic resin (polybenzoxazine) composite open-cell sponges. The tunable hierarchical structures of the as-prepared sponge significantly improved its water repellence and oil capillarity; meanwhile, a plausible mechanism is also proposed. With the merits of high porosity, excellent water repellence, enhanced oil capillarity, and robust mechanical stability, the obtained sponge exhibited an intriguing oil spill cleanup performance with fast oil absorption speed, good recyclability, and high absorption capacity. Besides that, the modified sponge could also be utilized for the separation of oil/water mixture with individual phase and the surfactant-stabilized emulsion solely under the drive of gravity. The robust oil/water separation performance, low cost, and facile synthesis strategy make the resultant sponges a competitive material for the large-scale oil spill emergency remediation.

Abstract
Frequent oil spills and industrial emissions of organic solvents cause serious environmental problems. Therefore, finding a high-performance absorbent material is necessary but also challenging. Here we present a very simple method to fabricate a magnetic porous silicone that exhibits excellent absorbency, fast magnetic responsiveness, high elasticity, stretchability, and high chemical stability. The porous silicone instantly adsorbs any oil floating on water in a complex environment under magnetic field driving, without human operation, and can also separate the oil/water mixture automatically and quickly at high efficiency using an external pump. The oil absorption capacity and mechanical properties, such as compressibility and stretchability, were robust even under corrosive conditions or UV exposure. The robust, reusable magnetic porous silicone is a promising candidate for the large-scale industrial separation of organic solvents/water mixtures in harsh conditions.

Abstract
Aerogels derived from nanocellulose have emerged as attractive absorbents for cleaning up oil spills and organic pollutants due to their lightweight, exceptional absorption capacity, and sustainability. However, the majority of the nanocellulose aerogels based on the bottom-up fabrication process still lack sufficient mechanical robustness because of their disordered architecture with randomly assembled cellulose nanofibrils, which is an obstacle to their practical application as oil absorbents. Herein, we report an effective strategy to create anisotropic cellulose-based wood sponges with a special spring-like lamellar structure directly from natural balsa wood. The selective removal of lignin and hemicelluloses via chemical treatment broke the thin cell walls of natural wood, leading to a lamellar structure with wave-like stacked layers upon freeze-drying. A subsequent silylation reaction allowed the growth of polysiloxane coatings on the skeleton surface. The resulting silylated wood sponge exhibited high mechanical compressibility (reversible compression of 60%) and elastic recovery (∼99% height retention after 100 cycles at 40% strain). The wood sponge showed excellent oil/water absorption selectivity with a high oil absorption capacity of 41 g g-1. Moreover, the absorbed oils can be recovered by simple mechanical squeezing, and the porous sponge maintained a high oil-absorption capacity upon multiple squeezing-absorption cycles, displaying excellent recyclability. Taking advantage of the unidirectional liquid transport of the porous sponge, an oil-collecting device was successfully designed to continuously separate contaminants from water. Such an easy, low-cost, and scalable top-down approach holds great potential for developing effective and reusable oil absorbents for oil/water separation.

Abstract
Microbubble fabrication of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) beads with incorporated TiO2 provides a low-density, microstructured photocatalyst that is buoyant in water. This approach surmounts many of the challenges traditionally encountered in the generation of buoyant photocatalysts, an area which is critical for the implementation of widespread environmental cleaning of organic pollutants in water resources. Because the incorporation into the polymer bead surface is done at low temperatures, the crystal structure of TiO2 is unaltered, ensuring high-quality photocatalytic activity, while PDMS is well-established as biocompatible, temperature stable, and simple to produce. The photocatalyst is shown to degrade methylene blue faster than other buoyant, TiO2-based photocatalysts, and only an order of magnitude less than direct suspension of an equivalent amount of photocatalyst in solution, even though the photocatalyst is only present at the surface of the solution. The reusability of the TiO2/PDMS beads is also strong, showing no depreciation in photocatalytic activity after five consecutive degradation trials.
