Abstract
Multiple steps are needed to achieve the C-H functional of aromatic aldehyde, since the C-H functional reaction usually occurs preferentially at the aldehydic C-H bond over the aryl C-H bond. We report an efficient azidation method mediated by dirhodium(II) catalysts to achieve the direct aryl azidation of aromatic aldehydes avoiding the simultaneous use of protected aldehydes and prefunctionalized arenes. The regioselectivity of this method is similar to those of typical aromatic electrophilic substitution reactions. The resulting azidobenzaldehyde products are versatile building blocks or precursors for the synthesis of many biologically active compounds. The mechanism studies indicate that the one-electron oxidative intermediate Rh2 (II,III) N3 is responsible for the azide transfer.

Abstract
Pd-catalyzed sequences involving oxidative addition, cyclization, and termination through intermolecular nucleophile capture have tremendous utility. Indeed, they can generate a plethora of different polycyclic structures possessing a diverse range of functionality. However, one area of deficiency for Pd0 /PdII variants is the ability to conclude them with oxygen-based species. Inspired by the recent discovery of one such reaction in the course of a total synthesis program, we delineate herein that it has significant strength, both in terms of substrate scope as well as the terminating oxygen nucleophile. As a result, the reaction proved critical in achieving total syntheses of two oxygenated natural products, one of which was prone to over-oxidation. Finally, a mechanistic proposal that accounts for its success is provided.

Abstract
A series of 2-aminobiphenyl palladacycles supported by dialkylterphenyl phosphines, PR2 Ar' (R=Me, Et, iPr, Cyp (cyclopentyl), Ar'=ArDipp2 , ArXyl2f , Dipp (2,6-C6H3-(2,6-C6H3-(CHMe2)2)2), Xyl=xylyl) have been prepared and structurally characterized. Neutral palladacycles were obtained with less bulky terphenyl phosphines (i.e., Me and Et substituents) whereas the largest phosphines provided cationic palladacycles in which the phosphines adopted a bidentate hemilabile k1 -P,η1 -Carene coordination mode. The influence of the ligand structure on the catalytic performance of these Pd precatalysts was evaluated in aryl amination reactions. Cationic complexes bearing the phosphines PiPr2 ArXyl2 and PCyp2 ArXyl2 were the most active of the series. These precatalysts have demonstrated a high versatility and efficiency in the coupling of a variety of nitrogen nucleophiles, including secondary amines, alkyl amines, anilines, and indoles, with electronically deactivated and ortho-substituted aryl chlorides at low catalyst loadings (0.25-0.75 mol % Pd) and without excess ligand.

Abstract
The tandem dual C-H amination of tetrahydroquinoxalines with free amines under aerobic copper catalysis conditions has been demonstrated. The synthetic protocol proceeds with good substrate and functional group compatibility, mild reaction conditions, short reaction time, the use of the naturally abundant [Cu]/O2 catalyst system, excellent chemoselectivity and synthetic efficiency, and with no need for the pre-installation of specific aminating agents, which offers a practical platform for the rapid and diverse synthesis of diaminoquinoxalines. Moreover, this work has shown the potential of single-electron-oxidation-induced C-H functionalization of N-heterocycles, and its application in the development of optoelectronic materials.

Abstract
The Pd-catalyzed coupling of aryl (pseudo)halides and amines is one of the most powerful approaches for the formation of C(sp2 )-N bonds. The pioneering reports from Migita and subsequently Buchwald and Hartwig on the coupling of aminostannanes and aryl bromides rapidly evolved into general and practical tin-free protocols with broad substrate scope, which led to the establishment of what is now known as the Buchwald-Hartwig amination. This Minireview summarizes the evolution of this cross-coupling reaction over the course of the past 25 years and illustrates some of the most recent applications of this well-established methodology.

Abstract
Understanding the nature of the intermediate species operating within a palladium catalytic cycle is crucial for developing efficient cross-coupling reactions. Even though the XPhos/Pd(OAc)2 catalytic system has found numerous applications, the nature of the active catalytic species remains elusive. A Pd0 complex ligated to XPhos has been detected and characterized in situ for the first time using cyclic voltammetry and NMR techniques. In the presence of XPhos, Pd(OAc)2 initially associates with the ligand to form a complex in solution, which has been characterized as PdII (OAc)2 (XPhos). This PdII center is then reduced to the Pd0 (XPhos)2 species by an intramolecular process. This study also sheds light on the formation of PdI -PdI dimers. Finally, a kinetic study probes a dissociative mechanism for the oxidative addition with aryl halides involving Pd0 (XPhos) as the reactive species in equilibrium with the unreactive Pd0 (XPhos)2 . Remarkably, the reportedly poorly reactive PhCl reacts at room temperature in the oxidative addition, which confirms the crucial role of the XPhos ligand in the activation of aryl chlorides.

Abstract
The chemistry of strained cyclic alkynes has undergone a renaissance over the past two decades. However, a related species, strained cyclic allenes, especially heterocyclic derivatives, have only recently resurfaced and represent another class of valuable intermediates. We report a mild and facile means to generate the parent 3,4-oxacyclic allene from a readily accessible silyl triflate precursor, and then trap it in (4+2), (3+2), and (2+2) reactions to provide a variety of cycloadducts. In addition, we describe a catalytic, decarboxylative asymmetric allylic alkylation performed on an α-silylated substrate, to ultimately permit access to an enantioenriched allene. Generation and trapping of the enantioenriched cyclic allene occurs with complete transfer of stereochemical information in a Diels-Alder cycloaddition through a point-chirality, axial-chirality, point-chirality transfer process.

Abstract
Ylide-functionalized phosphine ligands (YPhos) were rationally designed to fit the requirements of Buchwald-Hartwig aminations at room temperature. This ligand class combines a strong electron-donating ability comparable to NHC ligands with high steric demand similar to biaryl phosphines. The active Pd species are stabilized by agostic C-H⋅⋅⋅Pd rather than by Pd-arene interactions. The practical advantage of YPhos ligands arises from their easy and scalable synthesis from widely available, inexpensive starting materials. Benchmark studies showed that YPhos-Pd complexes are superior to the best-known phosphine ligands in room-temperature aminations of aryl chlorides. The utility of the catalysts was demonstrated by the synthesis of various arylamines in high yields within short reaction times.

Abstract
A [Cp*RhIII ]-catalyzed direct C-H amidation is carried out in ionic liquid. Both C(sp2 )-H bonds of (hetero)arenes and alkenes and unactivated C(sp3 )-H bonds can be easily amidated with high functional-group tolerance and excellent yields under these conditions. Notably, using [Cp*RhIII ]/[BMIM]BF4 (BMIM=1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium) as the green and recyclable medium is environmentally benign, in light of characteristics such as the reusability of the expensive rhodium catalyst, avoidance of highly toxic organic solvents, and mild reaction conditions, as well as a short reaction time.

Abstract
The mechanism of a trinuclear cooperative dehydrogenative C-N bond-forming reaction is investigated in this work, which avoids the use of chelate-assisting directing groups. Two new highly efficient Ru/Cu co-catalyzed systems were identified, allowing orders of magnitude greater TOFs than the previous state of the art. In-depth kinetic studies were performed in combination with advanced DFT calculations, which reveal a decisive rate-determining trinuclear Ru-Cu cooperative reductive elimination step (CRE).
