Abstract
Strain-promoted oxidation-controlled cyclooctyne-1,2-quinone cycloaddition (SPOCQ) between functionalized bicyclo[6.1.0]non-4-yne (BCN) and surface-bound quinones revealed an unprecedented 100 % conjugation efficiency. In addition, monitoring by direct analysis in real time mass spectrometry (DART-MS) revealed the underlying kinetics and activation parameters of this immobilization process in dependence on its microenvironment.

Abstract
Creating hydrogel systems to mimic the extracellular matrix is often limited by their static nature. The use of a two-photon [2+2] cycloaddition of maleimide groups to structure surfaces, to create hydrogels, and add 3D modifications with sub-micrometer precision is reported. The absence of photoinitiators and usage of near-infrared light is promising for future in vivo studies.

Abstract
We introduce an efficient reaction manifold where the rate of a thermally induced ligation can be controlled by a photonic field via two competing reaction channels. The effectiveness of the reaction manifold is evidenced by following the transformations of macromolecular chain termini via high-resolution mass spectrometry and subsequently by selective block copolymer formation. The light-controlled reaction manifold consists of a so-called o-quinodimethane species, a photocaged diene, that reacts in the presence of light with suitable enes in a Diels-Alder reaction and undergoes a transformation into imines with amines in the absence of light. The chemical selectivity of the manifold is controlled by the amount of ene present in the reaction and can be adjusted from 100% imine formation (0% photo product) to 5% imine formation (95% photo product). The reported light-controlled reaction manifold is highly attractive because a simple external field is used to switch the selectivity of specific reaction channels.

Abstract
A mild, fast, and sequence-independent method for controlled enzyme immobilization is presented. This novel approach involves the encapsulation of single-enzyme molecules and the covalent attachment of these nanobiocatalysts onto surfaces. Fast and mild immobilization conditions, combined with low nonspecific adsorption on hydrophobic substrates, enables well-defined surface patterns via microcontact printing. The biohybrid materials show enhanced activity in organic solvents.

Abstract
We developed a simple method to pattern self-assembled monolayers of tetrazole triethoxylsilane with a variety of different molecules by photochemical microcontact printing. Under irradiation, tetrazoles form highly reactive nitrile imines, which react with alkenes, alkynes, and thiols. The covalent linkage to the surface could be unambiguously demonstrated by fluorescence microscopy, because the reaction product is fluorescent in contrast to tetrazole. The modified surfaces were further analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and contact angle goniometry. Protein-repellent micropatterns, a biotin-streptavidin array, and structured polymer brushes could be fabricated with this straightforward method for surface functionalization.

Abstract
A highly efficient strategy for the simultaneous dual surface encoding of 2D and 3D microscaffolds is reported. The combination of an oligo(ethylene glycol)-based network with two novel and readily synthesized monomers with photoreactive side chains yields two new photoresists, which can be used for the fabrication of microstructures (by two-photon polymerization) that exhibit a dual-photoreactive surface. By combining both functional photoresists into one scaffold, a dual functionalization pattern can be obtained by a single irradiation step in the presence of adequate reaction partners based on a self-sorting mechanism. The versatility of the approach is shown by the dual patterning of halogenated and fluorescent markers as well as proteins. Furthermore, we introduce a new ToF-SIMS mode ("delayed extraction") for the characterization of the obtained microstructures that combines high mass resolution with improved lateral resolution.

Abstract
The first fully conjugated bis-cyclopropenone (photo-DIBOD), a derivative of dibenzo[a,e][8]annulene, has been synthesized. 350-420 nm irradiation of this robust compound results in the efficient formation of dibenzo [a,e] cyclooctadiyne, an unstable, but useful SPAAC cross-linking reagent. Since photo-DIBO doesn't react with organic azides, this method allows for the spatiotemporal control of the ligation of two azide-tagged substrates.

Abstract
A photocaged diene is introduced at the 5′-end of oligonucleotides using the H-phosphonate approach and subsequently employed for the light-induced conjugation to a protein and the spatially controlled immobilization onto surfaces.
