Abstract
Two different series of novel analogues of benzosuberones (5a-m and 9a-w) tethered with hydrazone-hydrazides (functional group alterations: Head group to Tail group and vice versa) have been synthesized by the reaction of appropriate aldehydes with substituted hydrazides in excellent yields (87-94%) and their structures were confirmed by (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, ESI-MS and HRMS. The newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for anti-proliferative activity against different human cancer cell lines (HeLa, MDA MB 231, MIAPACA and IMR32). Among the synthesized compounds, six compounds 5 a, 5 b, 5 d, 5 e, 5 f and 9 v exhibited potent anti-proliferative activity with GI50 values less than 0.01 μM against MIAPACA, MDA-MB-231 and IMR32 human cancer cell lines.

Abstract
The title compound, C21H17N3O3, is a new polymorph of an already published structure [Shashidhar et al. (2006 ▶). Acta Cryst. E62, o4473-o4475]. The previously reported structure crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c, whereas the structure reported here is in the tetra-gonal space group I41/a. The bond lengths and angles are similar in both structures. The mol-ecule adopts an extended conformation via intra-molecular N-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds; the terminal phenyl ring and the hy-droxy-lphenyl ring are twisted with respect to the central benzene ring by 44.43 (7) and 21.99 (8)°, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H⋯π inter-actions into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Abstract
Hydrazones are a special class of organic compounds in the Schiff base family. Hydrazones constitute a versatile compound of organic class having basic structure (R1R2C=NNR3R4). The active centers of hydrazone, that is, carbon and nitrogen, are mainly responsible for the physical and chemical properties of the hydrazones and, due to the reactivity toward electrophiles and nucleophiles, hydrazones are used for the synthesis of organic compound such as heterocyclic compounds with a variety of biological activities. Hydrazones and their derivatives are known to exhibit a wide range of interesting biological activities like antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, analgesic, antimicrobial, anticancer, antiprotozoal, antioxidant, antiparasitic, antiplatelet, cardioprotective, anthelmintic, antidiabetic, antitubercular, trypanocidal, anti-HIV, and so forth. The present review summarizes the efficiency of hydrazones as potent anti-inflammatory agents.

Abstract
Sorbent materials based on a hydrazone Schiff base compound, C14H11BrN4O4, were prepared either by immobilizing the ligand into sol-gel (SG1) or bonding to silica (SG2). The sorbent materials were characterized by FT-IR, EDX, SEM, TEM, and TGA. The sorption characteristics of a matrix of eight transition metal ions (Ag+, Cu2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Fe3+, Pb2+, Zn2+, and Mn2+) using batch method were studied. Several key parameters that affected the extraction efficiency such as pH, contact time, metal ions concentration, and gel size (for SGl) were investigated and optimized. Under the optimized conditions, the physically immobilized hydrazone sorbent (SG1) exhibits highest selectivity towards Ag+ ions, while the chemically bonded hydrazone sorbent (SG2) exhibits high extraction for all metal ions tested. However, for practical applications such as the removal and preconcentration of Ag+, the physically immobilized sorbent (SG1) is preferred.

Abstract
Topological-mathematical models based on multiple linear regression analyses have been built to predict the reaction yields and the anti-inflammatory activity of a set of heterocylic amidine derivatives, synthesized under environmental friendly conditions, using microwave irradiation. Two models with three variables each were selected. The models were validated by cross-validation and randomization tests. The final outcome demonstrates a good agreement between the predicted and experimental results, confirming the robustness of the method. These models also enabled the screening of virtual libraries for new amidine derivatives predicted to show higher values of reaction yields and anti-inflammatory activity.

Abstract
The mol-ecular structure of the title compound, C(26)H(18)N(4)O(6)S·C(2)H(6)OS, shows an E conformation of the hydrazone double bond. The presence of a methyl-ene group between the benzo[de]isoquinoline and benzene-sulfonyl moieties allows the 4-nitro-phenyl ring and the benzo[de]isoquinoline system to be parallel with respect to each other, so that the mol-ecule adopts a U-shaped spatial conformation. The dihedral angle between mean planes of these aromatic groups is 4.4 (1)°. This special arrangement enables neighboring mol-ecules to be inter-calated, forming slipped π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.535 (2) Å] between the 4-nitro-phenyl and benzo[de]isoquinoline groups and point-to-face C-H⋯π inter-actions between the benzo[de]isoquinoline and benzene-sulfonyl aromatic systems. In addition, the crystal packing also features an inter-molecular N-H⋯O inter-action involving the amine group and the dimethyl sulfoxide solvent mol-ecule.

Abstract
A series of metal(II) complexes ML where M = VO(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) have been synthesized from azo Schiff base ligand (N′E)-N′-(5-((4-chlorophenyl)diazenyl)-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, electronic, IR, and 1H NMR spectra, magnetic susceptibility and also by aid of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction, fluorescence spectral studies, and molar conductivity measurements. Conductivity measurements reveal that the complexes are nonelectrolytes. Spectroscopy and other analytical studies reveal distorted square planar geometry for copper, square-pyramidal geometry for oxovanadium, and tetrahedral geometry for other complexes. Redox behavior of the copper(II) complex has been studied with cyclic voltammetry, and the biological activities of the ligand and metal complexes have been studied against several microorganisms by the well diffusion method. All synthesized compounds can serve as potential photoactive materials as indicated from their characteristic fluorescence properties. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the ligand was measured and found to be higher than that of urea and KDP. The SEM image of the copper(II) complex implies that the size of the particles is 50 nm.

Abstract
Starting from 1-benzyl- (2a) and 1-benzoyl-3-bromoacetyl indoles (2b) new heterocyclic, 2-thioxoimidazolidine (4a, b), imidazolidine-2,4-dione (5a, b), pyrano(2,3-d)imida-zole (8a, b and 9a, b), 2-substituted quinoxaline (11a, b-17a, b) and triazolo(4,3-a)quinoxaline derivatives (18a, b and 19a, b) were synthesized and evaluated for their antimicrobial and anticancer activities. Antimicrobial activity screening performed with concentrations of 0.88, 0.44 and 0.22 microg mm(-2) showed that 3-(1-substituted indol-3-yl)quinoxalin-2(1H)ones (11a, b) and 2-(4-methyl piperazin-1-yl)-3-(1-substituted indol-3-yl) quinoxalines (15a, b) were the most active of all the tested compounds towards P. aeruginosa, B. cereus and S. aureus compared to the reference drugs cefotaxime and piperacillin, while 2-chloro-3-(1-substituted indol-3-yl)quinoxalines (12a, b) were the most active against C. albicans compared to the reference drug nystatin. On the other hand, 2-chloro-3-(1-benzyl indol-3-yl) quinoxaline 12a display potent efficacy against ovarian cancer xenografts in nude mice with tumor growth suppression of 100.0 +/- 0.3 %.

Abstract
A series of 1,8-dihydro-1-aryl-8-alkyl pyrazolo(3,4-b)indoles 4a-j, 5a-j and 6a-j has been synthesized and tested for their anti-inflammatory and anticonvulsant activities. Formation of the pyrazoloindole derivatives was achieved by treating arylhydrazones of N-alkyl indole-3-carbox-aldehydes 1a-j, 2a-j and 3a-j with ten times their mass of polyphosphoric acid as a condensing agent. The newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anticonvulsant activities compared to indomethacin, flufenamic acid and diazepam as positive controls. Detailed synthesis, spectroscopic and toxicity data are reported.

Abstract
Condensation of 3,4-diaryl-2-imino-4-thiazoli-nes 1a-j with methanesulfonyl chloride gave methanesulfonamide derivatives 2a-j. Condensation of 2-cyanopyrazine, 4-cyanopyridine, and 2-cyanopyridine with 3,4-diaryl-2- imino-4-thiazolines 1h-m in the presence of sodium methoxide afforded amidine derivatives 3a-j. Compounds 2a-j and 3a-j were screened against various human cancer cell lines (COLO-205, HEP-2, A-549, IMR-32) and their percentage growth inhibition profile determined at 1 x 10(-5)M. The anti-inflammatory activity of these compounds was assessed using the carrageenan-induced paw edema model. Compound 2i exhibited 34.7% anti-inflammatory activity at 50 mg/kg p.o., which is comparable to standard care drug phenyl butazone (37% activity at 50 mg/kg p.o.).

Abstract
A series of substituted N-methylisonicotinamidine (2a-f), N-methylpyrazine-2-carboxamidine (2g-i) derivatives were synthesized by reaction of amidine derivatives (1a-i) with methyl iodide in presence of triethylamine. Five-membered condensed dihydroimidazolylbenzenesulfonamide derivatives (3a-i) were obtained by the reaction of amidine derivatives (1a-i) with acylating agent oxalyl chloride. All the compounds, i.e. 2a-i and 3a-i were purified by crystallization. Structures of all the synthesized compounds are supported by correct IR, (1)H NMR, mass spectral and analytical data. Anti-inflammatory activity evaluation was carried out using carrageenan-induced paw oedema assay and compounds 2e, 3a and 3d exhibited good anti-inflammatory activity (44%, 31% and 37% activity at 50 mg/kg p.o., respectively). Analgesic activity evaluation was carried out using acetic acid writhing assay and compounds 2a and 3f gave 75% activity each at 100 mg/kg p.o.; on the other hand compounds 3a and 3d exhibited 60% analgesic activity each at 50 mg/kg p.o. Compounds 3a and 3d exhibited good anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities.
