Abstract
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are by-products of aerobic metabolism and can also act as signaling molecules to participate in multiple regulation of biological and physiological processes. The occurrence, growth and metastasis of tumors, and even the apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy of tumor cells are all closely related to ROS. However, ROS levels in the body are usually maintained at a stable status. ROS produced by oxidative stress can cause damage to cell lipids, protein and DNA. In recent years, ROS have achieved satisfactory results on the treatment of tumors. Therefore, this review summarizes some research results of tumor treatments from the perspective of ROS in recent years, and analyzes how to achieve the mechanism of inhibition and treatment of tumors by ROS or how to affect the tumor microenvironment by influencing ROS. At the same time, the detection methods of ROS, problems encountered in the research process and solutions are also summarized. The purpose of this review is to provide a clearer understanding of the ROS role in tumor treatment, so that researchers might have more inspiration and thoughts for cancer prevention and treatment in the next stage. This review provides a clear understanding of the ROS role in tumor treatment and some thoughts for potential cancer prevention.![]()

Abstract
Solid evidence confirms that glutathione peroxidase (GPx) is a kind of vital protease in the first-line antioxidant defense system and participates in regulation of redox homeostasis as well as the pentose phosphate pathway. However, the current methods cannot achieve real-time and in situ visualization studies of GPx. In addition, GPx is highly reactive and susceptible to external interference, and there is rare research for exploring the roles of GPx under environmental factor exposure. Herein, we report a novel two-photon ratiometric fluorescent probe (TP-SS) for GPx detection for the first time. Using TP-SS, we explore the reversible catalytic cycle and the antioxidant mechanisms of GPx/GSH redox pool in aging and mercury exposure models. We detect the concentration fluctuation of GPx in aging and mercury exposure mice models. Also, we perform GPx detection in deep brain tissue and the imaging depth up to 100 μm. We believe that the novel two-photon ratiometric fluorescent probe TP-SS can facilitate the development of GPx-targeting tools and offer great advances in exploring the physiological/pathological functions of GPx.

Abstract
Detection of glutathione in human serum is of great importance for clinical diagnosis of various diseases, such as AIDS, diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer disease and cancer. In this work, a new water-soluble bismacrocyclic polyamine-derived compound, namely L, which contains two molecules of 4-nitro-1,2,3-benzoxa-diazole as the fluorophores, was designed and prepared. The experiments of selectivity of L toward metal ions showed it could rapidly and sensitively detect Hg2+ with a detection limit of 27 nM. Furthermore, the cell imaging and co-staining experiments in HeLa cells demonstrated that the L-Hg2+ probe had selectivity for the Golgi apparatus to a certain degree. Moreover, it had excellent selectivity for biothiols, especially for glutathione. Finally, the probe was successfully applied to sensitively detect glutathione (GSH) in human serum and fetal bovine serum.

Abstract
By combination of miniaturization potential of digital microfluidics (DMF) and sensitivity of fluorescence probe, an integrated sensor device has been initially constructed for mercury detection in coastal waters. The actuation feature of the detecting target, seawater droplet, which remains unclear, was basically explored. To overcome a potential risk of driven failure, induced by diversity ion ingredients in seawater, a feedback control loop was included into control system. Analyzing method for coastal waters was well established on DMF, which showed satisfied stability and selectivity in Hg sensing under high salinity condition, with the sensitivity of Hg2+ at the parts per billion level and total testing time less than 20s. With the advantages of being fast, amenable to automation and low cost, this device is promising for the formation of simple and rapid sensor device, especially for a routine monitoring and emergency detection of Hg/or other metals in coastal waters.

Abstract
The development of highly selective and sensitive chemosensors for Al3+ detection in pure aqueous solution is still a significant challenge. In this work, a novel water-soluble polymer PEGBAB based on salicylidene Schiff base has been designed and synthesized as a turn-on fluorescent chemosensor for the detection of Al3+ in 100% aqueous solution. PEGBAB exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity to Al3+ over other competitive metal ions with the detection limit as low as 4.05 × 10−9 M. PEGBAB displayed high selectivity to Al3+ in the pH range of 5–10. The fluorescence response of PEGBAB to Al3+ was reversible in the presence of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Based on the fluorescence response, an INHIBIT logic gate was constructed with Al3+ and EDTA as two inputs. Moreover, test strips based on PEGBAB were fabricated facilely for convenient on-site detection of Al3+.
