Abstract
It is highly challenging to achieve an optically deformable polymer with good controllability, stability, and self-healability for fabricating an optically controlled microrobotics. Here, we present a photo-responsive self-healing supramolecular assembly cross-linked by 3,3',5,5'-azobenzenetetracarboxylic acid (t-Azo) enabling the controllable and stable deformation. The network (PAA-u) of polyacrylic acid (PAA) grafted with 2-ureido-4[1 H]-pyrimidinone (UPy) is formed via multiple intermolecular hydrogen bonds (H-bonds) between UPy and t-Azo moieties. Molecular H-bonds stabilize the cis-isomer, enables stress transfer at the interface, and also contributes to fast healability. The PAA-u/t-Azo assembly shows a green-light-induced bending deformation, which recovers its shape under the irradiation of UV light. On the basis of this controllable and reversible deformation, the PAA-u/t-Azo "hand" realizes reversible light-driven grabbing and releasing of an object by optimizing bending and recovery. The assembly also shows a fast and excellent self-healing performance irradiated by green light during deformation. The multiple-H-bonding-cross-linked assembly with stable deformation and fast self-healability can be used for the development of a multitude of advanced microrobotics.

Abstract
A novel poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) supramolecular network exhibiting shape-memory behavior was successfully constructed with pendant UPy units that are highly able to dimerize. The dynamic network was obtained by a simple and versatile strategy consisting of chain-extension reaction between α,ω-dihydroxyoligoPCL and hydroxylated UPy units in the presence of hexamethylene diisocyanate as a coupling agent and further intermolecular dimerization of the UPy along the polyurethane backbone. 1H NMR analyses confirmed the dynamic features of the system, and DMTA in tensile mode was investigated to assess the SMP properties. Recyclability was also assessed by taking advantage of these supramolecular networks. Further addition of cellulose nanocrystals into the polymer network enabled adjustment of the extent of the net-points and therefore the SMP features. As confirmed by dispersion tests in solution and SEM observations, these bio-based nanofillers were homogeneously distributed in the network via supramolecular interaction between the hydroxyl groups present on their surface and UPy moieties along the polyurethane backbone. Thus, the here developed nanomaterials might reveal applicability in areas where a combination of SMP and biocompatibility is needed.

Abstract
Covalently cross-linked rubbers are renowned for their high elasticity that play an indispensable role in various applications including tires, seals, and medical implants. Development of self-healing and malleable rubbers is highly desirable as it allows for damage repair and reprocessability to extend the lifetime and alleviate environmental pollution. Herein, we propose a facile approach to prepare permanently cross-linked yet self-healing and recyclable diene-rubber by programming dynamic boronic ester linkages into the network. The network is synthesized through one-pot thermally initiated thiol-ene "click" reaction between a novel dithiol-containing boronic ester cross-linker and commonly used styrene-butadiene rubber without modifying the macromolecular structure. The resulted samples are covalently cross-linked and possess relatively high mechanical strength which can be readily tailored by varying boronic ester content. Owing to the transesterification of boronic ester bonds, the samples can alter network topologies, endowing the materials with self-healing ability and malleability.

Abstract
Recently, charge transfer (CT) interactions have received attention for the fabrication of supramolecular architectures due to their inherent compatibilities, directional nature and solvent tolerance. In this study, we report a shape-memory dynamic network constructed by the CT interaction between π-electron-rich naphthalene embedded in poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG-Np) and π-electron-poor six-arm methyl-viologen-ended poly(ethylene glycol) (6PEG-MV), which was verified by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis), fluorescence spectra and swelling tests. Interestingly, the mechanical properties of this CT complex were dramatically enhanced compared with the control without CT interaction. Moreover, the excellent shape-memory effect (SME) was realized due to the good crystallization of the PEG segment and stable netpoints based on the CT interaction. In addition, as we expected, this supramolecular polymer network is self-healable and reprocessable.

Abstract
The most important properties of self-healing polymers are efficient recovery at room temperature and prolonged durability. However, these two characteristics are contradictory, making it difficult to optimize them simultaneously. Herein, a transparent and easily processable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with the highest reported tensile strength and toughness (6.8 MPa and 26.9 MJ m-3 , respectively) is prepared. This TPU is superior to reported contemporary room-temperature self-healable materials and conveniently heals within 2 h through facile aromatic disulfide metathesis engineered by hard segment embedded aromatic disulfides. After the TPU film is cut in half and respliced, the mechanical properties recover to more than 75% of those of the virgin sample within 2 h. Hard segments with an asymmetric alicyclic structure are more effective than those with symmetric alicyclic, linear aliphatic, and aromatic structures. An asymmetric structure provides the optimal metathesis efficiency for the embedded aromatic disulfide while preserving the remarkable mechanical properties of TPU, as indicated by rheological and surface investigations. The demonstration of a scratch-detecting electrical sensor coated on a tough TPU film capable of auto-repair at room temperature suggests that this film has potential applications in the wearable electronics industry.

Abstract
Herein, we report a novel thermal/photoresponsive shape-memory polyurethane network with a pendant azobenzene group by utilizing its anisotropic-isotropic phase transitions and photoresponsive feature concurrently. To achieve this goal, the side-chain liquid crystalline polyurethane networks based on the pendant azobenzene group [SCLCPU(AZO)-Ns] were developed in a well-defined architecture. The smectic C nature of an LC phase in the polyurethane networks was confirmed by differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy, and one-dimensional and two-dimensional wide-angle X-ray diffraction. The well-defined architecture-made SCLCPU(AZO)-N displays two distinct transition temperatures (Ttrans) (Tg and Tcl), with a difference of about 40 °C. Consequently, the excellent triple-shape-memory effect in this network was demonstrated by cyclic thermomechanical analysis. By making full use of the trans-cis photoisomerization of azobenzene, the reversible bending and unbending behaviors were realized under the light irradiation with wavelengths of 450 and 550 nm, respectively.

Abstract
We report here a series of novel spontaneously healable thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) with a combination of improved mechanical and good autonomic self-healing performances. Hard-soft diblock and hard-soft-hard triblock copolymers with poly[exo-1,4,4a,9,9a,10-hexahydro-9,10(1',2')-benzeno-l,4-methanoanthracene] (PHBM) as the hard block and secondary amide group containing norbornene derivative polymer as the soft block were synthesized via living ring-opening metathesis copolymerization by use of Grubbs third-generation catalyst through sequential monomer addition. The microstructure, mechanical, self-healing, and surface morphologies of the block copolymers were thoroughly studied. Both excellent mechanical performance and self-healing capability were achieved for the block copolymers because of the interplayed physical cross-link of hard block and dynamic interaction formed by soft block in the self-assembled network. Under an optimized hard block (PHBM) weight ratio of 5%, a significant recovery of tensile strength (up to 100%) and strain at break (ca. 85%) was achieved at ambient temperature without any treatment even after complete rupture. Moreover, the simple reaction operations and well-designed monomers offer versatility in tuning the architectures and properties of the resulting block copolymers.

Abstract
A novel light-induced shape-memory material based on poly(l-lactide)-poly(ethylene glycol) copolymer is developed successfully by dangling the photoresponsive anthracene group on the PEG soft segment selectively. For synthesis strategy, the preprepared photoresponsive monomer N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-9-anthracene-methanamine (BHEAA) is first embedded into PEG chains; then, we couple this anthracene-functionalized PEG precursor with PLA precursor to result in PLA-PEG-A copolymer. The composition of target product can be well-defined by simply adjusting the feed ratio. The chemical structures of intermediate and final products are confirmed by (1)H NMR. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis of material reveals that the PEG soft segment became noncrystallizable when 4% or more BHEAA is introduced, and this feature is beneficial to the mobility of anthracene groups in polymer matrix. The static tensile tests show that the samples exhibit rubberlike mechanical properties except for the PLA-dominant one. The reversibility of [4 + 4] cycloaddition reaction between pendant anthracene groups in PLA-PEG-A film is demonstrated by UV-vis. Eventually, the light-induced shape-memory effect (LSME) is successfully realized in PLA-PEG-A. The results of cyclic photomechanical tests also reveal that the content of PLA hard segment as well as photosensitive anthracene moieties plays a crucial role in LSME.

Abstract
This investigation details the formation of polymer network trilayer laminates formed by thiol-X click chemistries, and their subsequent implementation and evaluation for quadruple shape memory behavior. Thiol-Michael addition and thiol-isocyanate-based crosslinking reactions were employed to fabricate each of the laminate's layers with independent control of the chemistry and properties of each layer and outstanding interlayer adhesion and stability. The characteristic features of step-growth thiol-X reactions, such as excellent network uniformity and narrow thermal transitions as well as their stoichiometric nature, enabled fabrication of trilayer laminates with three distinctly different glass transition temperatures grouped within a narrow range of 100 °C. Through variations in the layer thicknesses, a step-wise modulus drop as a function of temperature was achieved. This behavior allowed multi-step programming and the demonstration and quantification of quadruple shape memory performance. As is critical for this performance, the interface connecting the layers was evaluated in stoichiometric as well as off-stoichiometric systems. It was shown that the laminated structures exhibit strong interfacial binding and hardly suffer any delamination during cyclic material testing and deformation.

Abstract
Hydrogen-bonded, side-chain-functionalized supramolecular poly(alkyl methacrylate)s were investigated as light- and temperature-responsive reversible adhesives that are useful for bonding and debonding on demand applications. Here, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) was functionalized with 2-ureido-4[1H]pyrimidinone (UPy) via a hexamethylenediisocyanate (HMDI) linker, to create a monomer (UPy-HMDI-HEMA) that serves to form supramolecular cross-links by way of forming quadruple hydrogen bonded dimers. UPy-HMDI-HEMA was copolymerized with either hexyl methacrylate or butyl methacrylate to create copolymers comprising 2.5, 5, or 10 mol % of the cross-linker. The mechanical properties of all (co)polymers were investigated with stress-strain experiments and dynamic mechanical analysis. Furthermore, the adhesive properties were studied at temperatures between 20 and 60 °C by testing single lap joints formed with stainless steel substrates. It was found that increasing the concentration of the UPy-HMDI-HEMA cross-linker leads to improved mechanical and adhesive properties at elevated temperatures. Concurrently, the reversibility of the bond formation remained unaffected, where rebonded samples displayed the same adhesive strength as regularly bonded samples. Debonding on demand abilities were also tested exemplarily for one copolymer, which for light-induced debonding experiments was blended with a UV-absorber that served as light-heat converter. Single lap joints were subjected to a constant force and heated or irradiated with UV light until debonding occurred. The necessary debonding temperature was comparable for direct heating and UV irradiation and varied between 28 and 82 °C, depending on the applied force. The latter also influenced the debonding time, which under the chosen conditions ranged from 30 s to 12 min.
