Abstract
The azadithiolate complex Fe2[(SCH2)26NMe](CO)6 reacts with borane to give an initial 1:1 adduct, which spontaneously decarbonylates to give Fe2[(SCH2)2NMeBH3](CO)5. Featuring a Fe-H-B three-center, two-electron interaction, the pentacarbonyl complex is a structural model for H2 complexes invoked in the [FeFe]-hydrogenases. The pentacarbonyl compound is a "σ complex", where a B-H σ bond serves as a ligand for iron. The structure of this σ complex was characterized by variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Complementary to the 1:1 borane adduct is the quaternary ammonium complex [Fe2](SCH2)2NMe2](CO)6]+, which was also characterized. It represents a kinetically robust analogue of the N-protonated amine cofactor, as indicated by its mild reduction potential.

Abstract
AbstractToday’s energy concerns require the development of suitable solutions for the storage of energy from renewable resources. Although the chemical storage of energy using molecular hydrogen as energy carrier is one of the best options, this type of energy storage requires the conversion of hydrogen to liquid organic hydrogen careers (LOHCs) for practical reasons. This goal is challenging and highly desirable at the same time. In comparison to dihydrogen, hydrogen storage in LOHCs offers easier handling and minimum dangers involved in their production, storage, and reconversion. To achieve efficient processes based on LOHCs highly active catalyst systems are required which ideally are based on cheap and abundant metals such as iron. This review summarizes recent advances in ironcatalyzed hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions, with relevance to reversible hydrogen storage in small molecules. It entails the dehydrogenation reactions of formic acid and methanol water mixtures, the reverse reaction, the hydrogenation of CO2, dehydrogenation of alcohols, and the hydrogenation of different carbonyl compounds as the formal reverse reaction, as well as hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions of N-heterocyclic compounds and hydrogen release reactions from amino boranes.

Abstract
Protonation of MeRNH·BH3 (R = Me or H) with HX (X = B(C6F5)4, OTf, or Cl), followed by immediate, spontaneous H2 elimination, yielded the amine-boronium cation salt [MeRNH·BH2(OEt2)][B(C6F5)4] and related polar covalent analogs, MeRNH·BH2X (X = OTf or Cl). These species can be deprotonated to conveniently generate reactive aminoborane monomers MeRN=BH2 which oligomerize or polymerize; in the case of MeNH2·BH3, the two step process gave poly(N-methylaminoborane), [MeNH-BH2]n.

Abstract
Dimethylamine-borane (DMAB) acid/base properties, its dihydrogen-bonded (DHB) complexes and proton transfer reaction in nonaqueous media were investigated both experimentally (IR, UV/vis, NMR, and X-ray) and theoretically (DFT, NBO, QTAIM, and NCI). The effects of DMAB concentration, solvents polarity and temperature on the degree of DMAB self-association are shown and the enthalpy of association is determined experimentally for the first time (-ΔH°assoc = 1.5-2.3 kcal/mol). The first case of "improper" (blue-shifting) NH···F hydrogen bonds was observed in fluorobenzene and perfluorobenzene solutions. It was shown that hydrogen-bonded complexes are the intermediates of proton transfer from alcohols and phenols to DMAB. The reaction mechanism was examined computationally taking into account the coordinating properties of the reaction media. The values of the rate constants of proton transfer from HFIP to DMAB in acetone were determined experimentally [(7.9 ± 0.1) × 10(-4) to (1.6 ± 0.1) × 10(-3) mol(-1)·s(-1)] at 270-310 K. Computed activation barrier of this reaction ΔG(‡theor)298 K(acetone) = 23.8 kcal/mol is in good agreement with the experimental value of the activation free energy ΔG(‡exp)270 K = 21.1 kcal/mol.

Abstract
The catalyst loading is the key to control the molecular weight of the polymer in the iron-catalyzed dehydropolymerization of phosphine-borane adducts. Studies showed that the reaction proceeds through a chain-growth coordination-insertion mechanism.

Abstract
While thermolysis of ammonia-borane (AB) affords a mixture of aminoborane- and iminoborane oligomers, the most selective metal-based catalysts afford exclusively cyclic iminoborane trimer (borazine) and its B-N cross-linked oligomers (polyborazylene). This catalysed dehydrogenation sequence proceeds through a branched cyclic aminoborane oligomer assigned previously as trimeric B-(cyclodiborazanyl)amine-borane (BCDB). Herein we utilize multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography to show instead that this key intermediate is actually tetrameric B-(cyclotriborazanyl)amine-borane (BCTB) and a method is presented for its selective synthesis from AB. The reactivity of BCTB upon thermal treatment as well as catalytic dehydrogenation is studied and discussed with regard to facilitating the second dehydrogenation step in AB dehydrocoupling.
