Abstract
Quantum chemical calculations are performed to investigate the cooperativity of hydrogen bonding with halogen or aerogen bonding interactions in linear NCX···(NCH)n=2–5 and O3Z···(NCH)n=2–5 clusters, where X = Cl, Br and Z = Ar, Kr. To understand the cooperativity mechanism in these systems, the corresponding binary NCX···NCH and O3Z···NCH complexes are also considered. The binding distances, interaction energies, and bonding properties of the NCX···(NCH)n=2–5 and O3Z···(NCH)n=2–5 clusters are analyzed in detail. It is found that the cooperative effects in the hydrogen bonding tend to strengthen X···N and Z···N interactions. For both NCX···(NCH)n and O3Z···(NCH)n clusters, a small bond shrinkage is observed from n = 4 to n = 5, which suggests that the cooperativity effects are almost saturated in the larger clusters (n > 5). As the size of the X or Z atom is increased, the magnitude of the cooperative energy in these systems is also increased, which is mainly ascribed to changes in electrostatic potentials and orbital interactions. Our results indicate that the cooperative effects lead to a substantial change in the 14N nuclear quadrupole coupling constants of the NCH molecule.

Abstract
An ab initio study of the cooperativity in XH2P⋯NCH⋯Z and XH2P⋯CNH⋯Z complexes (X=F, Cl, Br, CN, NC; Z=C2H2,C6H6) connected by pnicogen-bonding and H⋯π interactions is carried out by means of MP2 computational method. A detailed analysis of the structures, interaction energies and bonding properties is performed on these systems. For each set of the complexes considered, a favorable cooperativity is observed, especially in X=F and CN complexes. However, for a given X or Z, the amount of cooperativity effects in XH2P⋯CNH⋯Z complexes are more important than XH2P⋯NCH⋯Z counterparts. Besides, the influence of a H⋯π interaction on a P⋯N (C) bond is more pronounced than that of a P⋯N (C) bond on a H⋯π bond. The quantum theory of atoms in molecules shows that ternary complexes have increased electron densities at their bond critical points relative to the corresponding binary systems. The results also indicate that the strength of the P⋯N(C) and H⋯π interactions increases in the presence of the solvent.

Abstract
Ab initio MP2/aug'-cc-pVTZ calculations have been performed on the binary complexes XY:PH3 for XY = ClCl, FCl, and FBr; and PH3:N-base for N-base = NCH, NH3, NCF, NCCN, and N2; and the corresponding ternary complexes XY:PH3:N-base, to investigate P···N pnicogen bond formation through the lone-pair hole at P in the binary complexes and P···N pnicogen-bond formation assisted by P···Y halogen bond formation through the σ-hole at Y. Although the binary complexes PH3:N-base that form through the lone-pair hole have very small binding energies, they are not equilibrium structures on their potential surfaces. The presence of the P···Y halogen bond makes PH3 a better electron-pair acceptor through its lone-pair hole, leading to stable ternary complexes XY:PH3:N-base. The halogen bonds in ClCl:PH3 and ClCl:PH3:NCCN are traditional halogen bonds, but in the remaining binary and ternary complexes, they are chlorine- or bromine-shared halogen bonds. For a given nitrogen base, the P···N pnicogen bond in the ternary complex FCl:PH3:N-base appears to be stronger than that bond in FBr:PH3:N-base, which is stronger than the P···N bond in the corresponding ClCl:PH3:N-base complex. EOM-CCSD spin-spin coupling constants for the binary and ternary complexes with ClCl and FCl are also consistent with the changing nature of the halogen bonds in these complexes. At long P-Cl distances, the coupling constant 1xJ(P-Cl) increases with decreasing distance but then decreases as the P-Cl distance continues to decrease, and the halogen bonds become chlorine-shared bonds. At the shorter distances, 1xJ(P-Cl) approaches the value of 1J(P-Cl) for the cation +(Cl-PH3). The coupling constants 1pJ(P-N) are small and, with one exception, are greater in ClCl:PH3:N-base complexes compared to that in FCl:PH3:N-base, despite the shorter P-N distances in the latter.

Abstract
A theoretical study of the peri interactions, both intramolecular hydrogen (HB) and chalcogen bonds (YB), in 1-hydroxy-8YH-naphthalene, 1,4-dihydroxy-5,8-di-YH-naphthalene, and 1,5-dihydroxy-4,8-di-YH-naphthalene, with Y = O, S, and Se was carried out. The systems with a OH:Y hydrogen bond are the most stable ones followed by those with a chalcogen O:Y interaction, those with a YH:O hydrogen bond (Y = S and Se) being the least stable ones. The electron density values at the hydrogen bond critical points indicate that they have partial covalent character. Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis shows stabilization due to the charge transfer between lone pair orbitals towards empty Y–H that correlate with the interatomic distances. The electron density shift maps and non-covalent indexes in the different systems are consistent with the relative strength of the interactions. The structures found on the CSD were used to compare the experimental and calculated results.

Abstract
The equilibrium structures, interaction energies, and bonding properties of ternary XHY···NCH···HM complexes are studied by ab initio calculations, where X = F, Cl, Br, Y = S, Se, and M = Li, Na, BeH, MgH. The ab initio calculations are carried out at the MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ level. The results indicate that all optimized Y···N and H···H binding distances in the ternary complexes are smaller than the corresponding values in the binary systems. The calculated cooperative energies (Ecoop) are between −0.20 kcal/mol in BrHS···NCH···HBeH and −3.29 kcal/mol in FHSe···NCH···HNa. For a given Y and M, the estimated Ecoop values increase as X = F > Cl > Br. In addition, the selenium-bonded complexes exibit larger Ecoop values than those of the sulfur-bonded counterparts. The cooperativity between Y···N and H···H interactions is further analyzed by quantum theory of atoms in molecules and natural bond orbital methods. Cooperative effects make an increase in the J(Y–N) and J(H–H) spin–spin coupling constants of the ternary complexes with respect to the binary systems.

Abstract
In addition to the standard halogen bond formed when NH3approaches XCN (X = F, Cl, Br, I) along its molecular axis, a perpendicular approach is also possible, toward a π-hole that is present above the X–C bond.

Abstract
Quantum chemical calculations have been performed to study the interplay between halogen bond and lithium bond in the ternary systems FX-C6H5CN-LiF, FLi-C6H5CN-XF, and FLi-C6H5X-NH3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) involving aromatic compounds. This effect was studied in terms of interaction energy, electron density, charge transfer, and orbital interaction. The results showed that both FX-C6H5CN-LiF and FLi-C6H5CN-XF exhibit diminutive effects with the weakening of halogen bond and lithium bond, while FLi-C6H5X-NH3 displays synergistic effects with the strengthening of halogen bond and lithium bond. The nature of halogen bond and lithium bond in the corresponding binary complexes has been unveiled by the quantum theory of atoms in molecules methodology and energy decomposition analysis.

Abstract
An analogue of carbene, singlet silylene (H3P=N)2Si, was paired with the mono-substituted phosphines XH2Y (X = P, As, and Sb; Y = F, Cl, Br, and I) to form unconventional pnicogen-bonded complexes. All structures have Cs symmetry except the Sb complex, showing a deviation from this symmetry due to the coexistence of H···H interactions. The P and As complexes have different geometries from conventional pnicogen-bonded ones because the Y-X···Si line shows a large deviation from the molecular plane composed of two N atoms and one Si atom of (H3P=N)2Si. This deviation can be attributed to a new formation mechanism of the pnicogen bond due to the combined result of the LPSi→ BD*X-Y and LPX→ LP*Si orbital interactions. Generally, the pnicogen bond becomes stronger in the order of F < Cl < Br < I and weaker in the order of P > As > Sb, exhibiting an unexpected substitution effect and dependence on the nature of the pnicogen atom. These orders are inconsistent with the MEP on the X atom but can be better explained by the above orbital interactions. The Si···X interaction displays a character of covalent or partially covalent interaction, evidenced by the high interaction energy of -59.9 to -105.4 kJ mol(-1) as well as the negative energy density and the great charge transfer.
