An Additive-Free, Base-Catalyzed Protodesilylation of Organosilanes

We report an additive-free, base-catalyzed C-, N-, O-, and S-Si bond cleavage of various organosilanes in mild conditions. The novel catalyst system exhibits high efficiency and good functional group compatibility, providing the corresponding products in good to excellent yields with low catalyst loadings. Overall, this transition-metal-free process may offer a convenient and general alternative to current employing excess bases, strong acids, or metal-catalyzed systems for the protodesilylation of organosilanes.

Saccharin and tert-Butyl Nitrite: Cheap and Efficient Reagents for the Synthesis of 1,2,3-Benzotriazine-4-(3H)-ones from 2-Aminobenzamides under Metal-Free Conditions

A mild and eco-friendly protocol for the synthesis of 1,2,3-benzotriazine-4-(3H)-ones is described using saccharin as a cheap and efficient catalyst and tert-butyl nitrite as a diazotization reagent for the first time. The current method has advantages such as cost effectiveness, energy efficiency, and simple experimental procedure, good yield of the desired product, and metal-free and environmentally benign conditions.

tert-Butyl nitrite mediated nitrogen transfer reactions: synthesis of benzotriazoles and azides at room temperature

A conversion of o-phenylenediamines into benzotriazoles is reported with tert-butyl nitrite at room temperature. The optimized condition is also well suited for the transformation of sulfonyl and acyl hydrazines into corresponding azides.

Silver-Catalyzed Stereoselective Aminosulfonylation of Alkynes

A silver-catalyzed intermolecular aminosulfonylation of terminal alkynes with sodium sulfinates and TMSN3 is reported. This three-component reaction proceeds through sequential hydroazidation of the terminal alkyne and addition of a sulfonyl radical to the resultant vinyl azide. The method enables the stereoselective synthesis of a wide range of β-sulfonyl enamines without electron-withdrawing groups on the nitrogen atom. These enamines are found to be suitable for a variety of further transformations.

Alkynyl Moiety for Triggering 1,2-Metallate Shifts: Enantiospecific sp2 -sp3 Coupling of Boronic Esters with p-Arylacetylenes

The enantiospecific coupling of secondary and tertiary boronic esters to aromatics has been investigated. Using p‐lithiated phenylacetylenes and a range of boronic esters coupling has been achieved by the addition of N‐bromosuccinimide (NBS). The alkyne functionality of the intermediate boronate complex reacts with NBS triggering the 1,2‐migration of the group on boron to carbon giving a dearomatized bromoallene intermediate. At this point elimination and rearomatization occurs with neopentyl boronic esters, giving the coupled products. However, using pinacol boronic esters, the boron moiety migrates to the adjacent carbon resulting in formation of ortho boron‐incorporated coupled products. The synthetic utility of the boron incorporated product has been demonstrated by orthogonal transformation of both the alkyne and boronic ester functionalities.

Aryl Nitriles from Alkynes Using tert-Butyl Nitrite: Metal-Free Approach to C≡C Bond Cleavage

Alkyne C≡C bond breaking, outside of alkyne metathesis, remains an underdeveloped area in reaction discovery. Recently, nitrogenation has been reported to allow nitrile formation from alkynes. A new protocol for the metal-free C≡C bond cleavage of terminal alkynes to produce nitriles is reported. This method provides an opportunity to synthesize a vast range of nitriles containing aryl, heteroaryl, and natural product derivatives (38 examples). In addition, the potential of (t)BuONO to act as a powerful nitrogenating agent for terminal aryl alkynes is demonstrated.

Computational and NMR Spectroscopic Evidence for Stereochemistry-Dependent Conformations of 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidinyl-Masked 1,2-Diols

2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidinyl-masked 1,2-diols exhibited stereochemistry-dependent hydroxyl proton chemical shifts: ca. 7 ppm for the syn diastereomer and ca. 2 ppm for the anti diastereomer. A computational search for low energy geometries revealed that the syn isomer favors a six-membered ring hydrogen bond to nitrogen and the anti isomer favors a five-membered ring hydrogen bond to oxygen. The computed low energy conformations were found to have a large difference in hydroxyl proton shielding that was reflected in the experimental chemical shift difference. This chemical shift difference was observed in a broad range of solvents, and thus may be useful as a stereochemical probe. The stereochemistry-dependent conformation and chemical shift signature appeared to be due to a syn pentane interaction between the gem-dimethyl groups on the 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyl moiety.

Oxidative Nitration of Styrenes for the Recycling of Low-Concentrated Nitrogen Dioxide in Air

The oxidative nitration of styrenes in ethyl acetate represents a metal-free, environmentally friendly, and sustainable technique to recover even low concentrations of NO2 in air. Favorable features are that the product mixture comprising nitroalcohols, nitroketones, and nitro nitrates simplifies at lower concentrations of NO2 . Experiments in a miniplant-type 10 L wet scrubber demonstrated that the recycling technique is well applicable on larger scales at which initial NO2 concentrations of >10 000 ppm were reliably reduced to less than 40 ppm.
