Abstract
A general protocol for functionalization of an anomeric selonate anion at room temperature has been reported. By using the PdG3 XantPhos catalyst, the cross-coupling between the in situ-generated glycosyl selenolate and a broad range of (hetero)aryl and alkenyl iodides furnished a series of functionalized selenoglycosides in excellent yields with perfect control of the anomeric configuration.

Abstract
Dendrimers are of great interest due to their special structural topology and chemical versatility. Owing to their properties, dendrimers have found practical applications in catalytic processes as efficient nanoreactors. Therefore, we herein report an environmentally attractive strategy and highly efficient route for the synthesis of a wide variety of diaryl sulfides using palladium nanoparticles immobilized on a nano-silica triazine dendritic polymer (Pdnp-nSTDP) as a nanoreactor. In this manner, different diaryl or aryl heteroaryl sulfides and bis(aryl/heteroarylthio)benzene/anthracene/pyridine derivatives were prepared via C-S cross-coupling reactions of aryl halides with diaryl/diheteroaryl disulfides under thermal conditions and microwave irradiation. The catalyst could be easily recovered and reused several times without any significant loss of its activity.

Abstract
The reaction mechanism leading to the formation of cross-coupling palladium pre-catalysts of the PEPPSI family was investigated. Two intermediates were isolated and proved to be both suitable synthons to the pre-catalysts, with one permitting the design of a novel and greener user-friendly synthetic route. In light of this mechanistic understanding, the traditional one-pot method was shown to be possible using stoichiometric amounts of throw-away ligand, which represents a considerable synthetic improvement over the wasteful "in pyridine" approach.

Abstract

DNA-encoded
chemical library (DECL) screens are a rapid and economical
tool to identify chemical starting points for drug discovery. As a
robust transformation for drug discovery, palladium-catalyzed C–N
coupling is a valuable synthetic method for the construction of DECL
chemical matter; however, currently disclosed methods have only been
demonstrated on DNA-attached (hetero)aromatic iodide and bromide electrophiles.
We developed conditions utilizing an N-heterocyclic
carbene–palladium catalyst that extends this reaction to the
coupling of DNA-conjugated (hetero)aromatic chlorides with (hetero)aromatic
and select aliphatic amine nucleophiles. In addition, we evaluated
steric and electronic effects within this catalyst series, carried
out a large substrate scope study on two representative (hetero)aryl
bromides, and applied this newly developed method within the construction
of a 63 million-membered DECL.

Abstract
A 1 : 1 Pd : ligand complex, [t-BuXPhos(Pd-π-cinnamyl)]OTf, has been identified as a highly robust pre-catalyst for amination reactions leading to diarylamines, where loadings of metal are typically at 1000 ppm Pd, run in water at temperatures between rt and 45 °C. The protocol is exceptionally simple, is readily scaled, and compares very favorably vs. traditional amination conditions. It has also been shown to successfully lead to key intermediates associated with several physiologically active compounds.

Abstract
The complexes of Ni, Pd, and Pt with N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) catalyze numerous organic reactions via proposed typical M0/MII catalytic cycles comprising intermediates with the metal center in (0) and (II) oxidation states. In addition, MII/MIV catalytic cycles have been proposed for a number of reactions. The catalytic intermediates in both cycles can suffer decomposition via R-NHC coupling and the side reductive elimination of the NHC ligand and R groups (R = alkyl, aryl, etc.) to give [NHC-R]+ cations. In this study, the relative stabilities of (NHC)MII(R)(X)L and (NHC)MIV(R)(X)3L intermediates (X = Cl, Br, I; L = NHC, pyridine) against R-NHC coupling and other decomposition pathways via reductive elimination reactions were evaluated theoretically. The study revealed that the R-NHC coupling represents the most favorable decomposition pathway for both types of intermediates (MII and MIV), while it is thermodynamically and kinetically more facile for the MIV complexes. The relative effects of the metal M (Ni, Pd, Pt) and ligands L and X on the R-NHC coupling for the MIV complexes were significantly stronger than that for the MII complexes. In particular, for the (NHC)2MIV(Ph)(Br)3 complexes, Ph-NHC coupling was facilitated dramatically from Pt (ΔG = -36.9 kcal mol-1, ΔG≠ = 37.5 kcal mol-1) to Pd (ΔG = -61.5 kcal mol-1, ΔG≠ = 18.3 kcal mol-1) and Ni (ΔG = -80.2 kcal mol-1, ΔG≠ = 4.7 kcal mol-1). For the MII oxidation state of the metal, the bis-NHC complexes (L = NHC) were slightly more kinetically and thermodynamically stable against R-NHC coupling than the mono-NHC complexes (L = pyridine). An inverse relation was observed for the MIV oxidation state of the metal as the (NHC)2MIV(R)(X)3 complexes were kinetically (4.3-15.9 kcal mol-1) and thermodynamically (8.0-23.2 kcal mol-1) significantly less stable than the (NHC)MIV(R)(X)3L (L = pyridine) complexes. For the NiIV and PdIV complexes, additional decomposition pathways via the reductive elimination of the NHC and X ligands to give the [NHC-X]+ cation (X-NHC coupling) or reductive elimination of the X-X molecule were found to be thermodynamically and kinetically probable. Overall, the obtained results demonstrate significant instability of regular Ni/NHC and Pd/NHC complexes (for example, not additionally stabilized by chelation) and high probability to initiate "NHC-free" catalysis in the reactions comprising MIV intermediates.

Abstract
The Pd-catalyzed coupling of aryl (pseudo)halides and amines is one of the most powerful approaches for the formation of C(sp2 )-N bonds. The pioneering reports from Migita and subsequently Buchwald and Hartwig on the coupling of aminostannanes and aryl bromides rapidly evolved into general and practical tin-free protocols with broad substrate scope, which led to the establishment of what is now known as the Buchwald-Hartwig amination. This Minireview summarizes the evolution of this cross-coupling reaction over the course of the past 25 years and illustrates some of the most recent applications of this well-established methodology.

Abstract
S-aryl phosphorothioates are privileged motifs in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and catalysts; yet, the challenge of devising a straightforward synthetic route to enantioenriched S-aryl phosphorothioates has remained unsolved to date. We demonstrate herein the first direct C-SP(=O)(OR')(OR'') coupling of diverse and chiral phosphorothioate salts with aryl iodides, enabled by an air- and moisture-stable PdI dimer. Our mechanistic and computational data suggest distinct dinuclear PdI catalysis to be operative, which allows for operationally simple couplings with broad scope and full retention of stereochemistry.

Abstract
The Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling of thiols with aromatic electrophiles is a reliable method for the synthesis of aryl thioethers, which are important compounds for pharmaceutical and agricultural applications. Since thiols and thiolates strongly bind late transition metals, previous research has focused on catalysts supported by chelating, bisphosphine ligands, which were considered less likely to be displaced during the course of the reaction. We show that by using monophosphine ligands instead, more effective catalysis can be achieved. Notably, compared to previous methods, this increased reactivity allows for the use of much lower reaction temperature, soluble bases, and base-sensitive substrates. In contrast to conventional wisdom, our mechanistic data suggest that the extent of displacement of phosphine ligands by thiols is, firstly, not correlated with the ligand bulk or thiol nucleophilicity, and secondly, not predictive of the effectiveness of a given ligand in combination with palladium.

Abstract
Allylic C-H acetoxylations are among the most widely studied palladium(II)-catalyzed C-H oxidation reactions. While the principal reaction steps are well established, key features of the catalytic mechanisms are poorly characterized, including the identity of the turnover-limiting step and the catalyst resting state. Here, we report a mechanistic study of aerobic allylic acetoxylation of allylbenzene with a catalyst system composed of Pd(OAc)2 and 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one (DAF). The DAF ligand is unique in its ability to support aerobic catalytic turnover, even in the absence of benzoquinone or other co-catalysts. Herein, we describe operando spectroscopic analysis of the catalytic reaction using X-ray absorption and NMR spectroscopic methods that allow direct observation of the formation and decay of a palladium(I) species during the reaction. Kinetic studies reveal the presence of two distinct kinetic phases: (1) a burst phase, involving rapid formation of the allylic acetoxylation product and formation of the dimeric PdI complex [PdI(DAF)(OAc)]2, followed by (2) a post-burst phase that coincides with evolution of the catalyst resting state from the PdI dimer into a π-allyl-PdII species. The data provide unprecedented insights into the role of ancillary ligands in supporting catalytic turnover with O2 as the stoichiometric oxidant and establish an important foundation for the development of improved catalysts for allylic oxidation reactions.

Abstract
The coupling of organolithium reagents, including strongly hindered examples, at cryogenic temperatures (as low as -78 °C) has been achieved with high-reactivity Pd-NHC catalysts. A temperature-dependent chemoselectivity trigger has been developed for the selective coupling of aryl bromides in the presence of chlorides. Building on this, a one-pot, sequential coupling strategy is presented for the rapid construction of advanced building blocks. Importantly, one-shot addition of alkyllithium compounds to Pd cross-coupling reactions has been achieved, eliminating the need for slow addition by syringe pump.

Abstract
We report a general and rapid chemoselective Kumada-Tamao-Corriu (KTC) cross-coupling of aryl bromides in the presence of chlorides or triflates with functionalized Grignard reagents at 0 °C in 15 min by using Pd-PEPPSI-IPentCl (C4). Nucleophiles and electrophiles (or both) can contain Grignard-sensitive functional groups (-CN, -COOR, etc.). Control experiments together with DFT calculations suggest that transmetallation is rate limiting for the selective cross-coupling of Br in the presence of Cl/OTf with functionalized Grignard reagents. One-pot sequential KTC/KTC cross-couplings with bromo-chloro arenes have been demonstrated for the first time. We also report the one-pot sequential KTC/Negishi cross-couplings using C4 showcasing the versatility of this methodology.

Abstract
An operationally simple mechanochemical method for the Pd catalysed Buchwald-Hartwig amination of arylhalides with secondary amines has been developed using a Pd PEPPSI catalyst system. The system is demonstrated on 30 substrates and applied in the context of a target synthesis. Furthermore, the performance of the reaction under aerobic conditions has been probed under traditional solution and mechanochemical conditions, the observations are discussed herein.

Abstract
Palladium nanoparticles (NPs) have been obtained by decomposition of well-defined palladium complexes noncovalently anchored onto the surface of reduced graphene oxide. Morphological analysis by microscopy showed the presence of small palladium NPs homogeneously distributed on the support. Characterization by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed that palladium NPs contain Pd(2+) and Pd(0) oxidation states and the presence of N-heterocyclic carbene and bromo ligands. The catalytic properties of the NPs with and without the support have been evaluated in the hydrogenation of alkynes. Supported palladium NPs showed increased activity versus the nonsupported ones and could be recycled up to 10 times without the loss of catalytic activity. The composition of the palladium NPs is different for each catalytic cycle indicating a dynamic process and the formation of different catalytic active species. On the contrary, the unsupported palladium NPs showed limited activity caused by decomposition and could not be recycled. The role of the support has been investigated. The results indicate that the support influences the stability of palladium NPs.

Abstract
This report widens the repertoire of emerging PdI catalysis to carbon-heteroatom, that is, C-S bond formation. While Pd0 -catalyzed protocols may suffer from the formation of poisonous sulfide-bound off-cycle intermediates and lack of selectivity, the mechanistically diverse PdI catalysis concept circumvents these challenges and allows for C-S bond formation (S-aryl and S-alkyl) of a wide range of aryl halides. Site-selective thiolations of C-Br sites in the presence of C-Cl and C-OTf were achieved in a general and a priori predictable fashion. Computational, spectroscopic, X-ray, and reactivity data support dinuclear PdI catalysis to be operative. Contrary to air-sensitive Pd0 , the active PdI species was easily recovered in the open atmosphere and subjected to multiple rounds of recycling.
