Abstract
Bridged tetracyclic nitrogen scaffolds are found in numerous biologically active molecules and medicinally relevant structures. Traditional methods usually require tedious reaction steps, and/or the use of structurally specific starting materials. We report an unprecedented, iminyl radical-triggered relay annulation from oxime-derived peresters and azadienes, which shows good substrate scope and functional group compatibility, and can deliver various bridged aza-tetracyclic compounds with complex molecular topology and four contiguous stereogenic centers (dr > 19 : 1) in a single operation. This transformation represents the first example of trifunctionalization of iminyl radicals through simultaneous formation of one C–N and two C–C bonds. DFT calculation studies were conducted to obtain an in-depth insight into the reaction pathways, which revealed that the reactions involved an interesting 1,6-hydrogen atom transfer process. A novel radical relay annulation is realized for the construction of various bridged aza-tetracyclic compounds with complex molecular topology and four contiguous stereogenic centers (dr > 19 : 1) in a single operation.![]()

Abstract
The reaction between O-acetyl oximes and β-ketoesters/nitriles catalyzed by copper generated polysubstituted pyrroles and furans, respectively, under redox–neutral reaction conditions. Using this protocol, pyrroles or furans could be obtained simply by choosing an appropriate active methylene compound. Although both transformations occur essentially under the same reaction conditions, control experiments indicated that they follow different mechanistic pathways. A copper-catalyzed heteroannulation of O-acetyl oximes and β-ketoesters/nitriles to afford polysubstituted pyrroles and furans was successfully achieved.![]()

Abstract
The merger of transition metal catalysis and photocatalysis has emerged as a versatile platform that opened the gateway to diverse low-energy pathways for several synthetic transformations. However, amidst the first-row transition metals, directed C-H bond functionalization mediated by high-valent cobalt catalysis has advanced with rising momentum owing to its unique reactivity and the ability to participate in both one- and two-electron transfer reactions. However, the use of expensive, privileged Cp* ligands or use of stoichiometric silver(I) or manganese(III) is unavoidable. Despite significant advances in their respective fields, the combination of these two "green" approaches to further the vested interest of the scientific research community towards the development of ecofriendly and sustainable protocols is noticeably limited. Thus, the methodology based on high-cobalt-photoredox dual-catalytic strategy has high dormant potential and is worthy to explore. Herein, we highlight the recent advances in the high-valent cobalt-catalyzed sustainable catalytic approach by harnessing light energy for oxidative C-H bond functionalization. With this, we hope to inspire the development of unexplored cobalt-photoredox-catalyzed reactions with improved efficiency and selectivity.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed bisannulation reaction of malonate-tethered O-acyl oximes with pyridine, pyrazine, pyridazine, and quinoline derivatives has been developed for the concise synthesis of structurally novel dihydroindolizine-fused pyrrolidinones and their analogues. The present reaction shows excellent regioselectivity and stereoselectivity. Theoretical calculations reveal that the coordination effect of the carbonyl group in the nucleophilic substrate determines the excellent regioselectivity. Further functionalization of the generated dihydroindolizine-fused pyrrolidinone could be easily realized through substitution, Michael addition, selective aminolysis, and hydrolysis reactions.

Abstract
A general and efficient rhodium-catalyzed redox-neutral annulation of N-acetoxyacetanilides, readily accessible from nitroarenes, with alkynes has been accomplished for the synthesis of substituted indole derivatives. A wide range of substituted 2,3-diarylindoles were achieved from various substituted N-acetoxyacetanilides and symmetrical/unsymmetrical alkynes in good to excellent yields. The developed method was successfully integrated with the synthesis of N-acetoxyacetanilides for the efficient one-pot synthesis of indoles from nitroarenes. The important features are the introduction of N-acetoxyacetamide as a new directing group, redox-neutral annulation, an additive-free approach, wide functional group tolerance, an intramolecular version, and a one-pot reaction of nitroarenes. The method was further extended to the synthesis of potent higher analogues of indole, viz., pyrrolo[3,2-f]indoles and dibenzo[a,c]carbazoles. In addition, a plausible mechanism was proposed based on the isolation and stoichiometric study of a potential aryl-Rh intermediate.

Abstract
Herein, we report the arylation, alkylation, and alkenylation of aryl ketones via a palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction. The use of the pyridine-oxazoline ligand is the key to the cleavage of the unstrained C-C bond. The late-stage arylation of aryl ketones derived from drugs and natural products demonstrated the synthetic utility of this protocol.

Abstract
A copper-based catalytic system has been developed to enable formal [3 + 1 + 2] annulations of ketoxime acetates, aldehydes, and cyanamides. This protocol offers a new strategy for the synthesis of highly substituted 2-aminopyrimidine compounds, and more importantly, pyrimidines have now been included in the N-heterocycle family constructed using O-acyl ketoximes as N-C-C synthons.

Abstract
C3-Arylation of indoles with aryl ketones is accomplished via palladium-catalyzed ligand-promoted Ar-C(O) cleavage and subsequent C-H arylation of indole. Various (hetero)aryl ketones are compatible in this reaction, affording the corresponding 3-arylindoles in moderate to good yields. Further introduction of an indole moiety into the natural products desoxyestrone and evodiamine demonstrate the synthetic utility of this protocol.

Abstract
Ethylbenzene (EB) oxidation is an important transformation in the chemical industry. Herein, PMo10V2@CTF, a noble metal free electrocatalyst, was used to promote the oxidative upgrading of EB. Under ambient conditions, 65% of EB was converted to three value-added products using water as the oxygen source yielding a total Faraday efficiency of 90.4%. This excellent performance is ascribed to the homogeneous dispersion of PMo10V2 and its dual role in the electrocatalytic process.

Abstract
Exploiting internal alkenes embedded with an oxidizing function/leaving group as a rare and unconventional one-carbon unit, a redox-neutral rhodium(III)-catalyzed chemo- and regiospecific [4+1] annulation between indoles and alkenes for the synthesis of functionalized imidazo[1,5-a]indoles has been achieved. Internal alkenes employed here can fulfill an unusual [4+1] annulation rather than normal [4+2] annulation/C-H alkenylation. This method is characterized by excellent chemo- and regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, good to high yields, and redox-neutral conditions.

Abstract
An efficient Rh(III)-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling of N-pyridinylindoles with benzo[b]thiophene 1,1-dioxides has been developed through directing-group-assisted C-H activation. This transformation constructs a new C-C bond from two inert C-H bonds in a one-pot reaction. The present reaction is compatible with various functional groups with respect to indoles and benzothiophene[b] 1,1-dioxides. Furthermore, the emission properties of synthesized compounds have been explored.

Abstract
A zinc-catalyzed C-H alkenylation of quinoline N-oxides with ynones has been developed to rapidly assemble a broad collection of valuable quinoline-enol organic architectures. Uncommonly, this novel reaction involves C-H functionalization, and N-O, C-C and C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C bond cleavage in one operation, and leads exclusively to the formation of an enol rather than a keto product. Application of the enols generated was highlighted by further derivative transformation and preparation of a series of "BODIPY" analogues with high quantum yields (up to 86%).

Abstract
A library of medicinally and synthetically important nicotinimidamides was synthesized by a copper-catalyzed multicomponent domino reaction of oxime esters, terminal ynones, sulfonyl azides, aryl aldehydes and acetic ammonium. Its synthetic pathway involves the formation of a highly reactive N-sulfonyl acetylketenimine, characterized by high selectivity, combinations of potential nucleophiles and electrophiles, mild reaction conditions and a wide substrate scope, and is a rare five-component example of a CuAAC/ring-opening reaction.

Abstract
Mizoroki-Heck reaction of unstrained aryl ketone with acrylate/styrene is accomplished via palladium-catalyzed ligand-promoted C-C bond cleavage. Various (hetero)aryl ketones are compatible in the reaction, affording the alkene product in good to excellent yields. Further applications in the late-stage olefination of some drugs, natural products, and fragrance-derived aryl ketones demonstrate the synthetic utility of this protocol. By employing ketone as both the directing group and the leaving group, 1,2-bifunctionalization is achieved via sequential ortho-C-H alkylation/ipso-Heck olefination.

Abstract
Since the definition of the "12 Principles of Green Chemistry" more than 20 years ago, chemists have become increasingly mindful of the need to conserve natural resources and protect the environment through the judicious choice of synthetic routes and materials. The direct activation and functionalization of C-H bonds, bypassing intermediate functional group installation is, in abstracto, step and atom economic, but numerous factors still hinder the sustainability of large-scale applications. In this Outlook, we highlight the research areas seeking to overcome the sustainability challenges of C-H activation: the pursuit of abundant metal catalysts, the avoidance of static directing groups, the replacement of metal oxidants, and the introduction of bioderived solvents. We close by examining the progress made in the subfield of aryl C-H borylation from its origins, through highly efficient but precious Ir-based systems, to emerging 3d metal catalysts. The future growth of this field will depend on industrial uptake, and thus we urge researchers to strive toward sustainable C-H activation.

Abstract
An efficient Cp*RhIII-catalyzed formal C(sp3)-H activation/spiroannulation of alkylidene Meldrum's acids with alkynes has been developed using catalytical Cu(OAc)2 and air as the oxidant. This reaction demonstrates a new and straightforward approach to spirocyclopentadienes with Meldrum's acid moieties in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions with a broad substrate scope. Notably, this protocol provides a novel and straightforward approach to cyclopentadienes with various substitution patterns and the corresponding cyclopentadienyl-type ligands from simple substrates.

Abstract
A simple and efficient ligand-free Cu-catalyzed protocol for the synthesis of polysubstituted quinolines via oxidative cyclization of oxime acetates with 2-aminobenzyl alcohols at room temperature has been developed. The presented approach provides a new synthetic pathway leading to polysubstituted quinolines with good functional group tolerance under mild conditions. Moreover, this transformation can be applied for the preparation of quinolines on a gram scale. Oxime acetates serve as the internal oxidants in the reactions, thus making this method very attractive.
