Abstract
Diagnosis of cancer in the early stages can help treat efficiently and reduce cancerrelated
death. Cancer biomarkers can respond to the presence of cancer in body fluids before the
appearance of any other symptoms of cancer. The integration of nanomaterials into biosensors as
electrochemical platforms offer rapid, sensitive detection for cancer biomarkers. The use of surface-
modified electrodes by carbon nanomaterials and metal nanoparticles enhances the performance
of electrochemical analysis in biosensing systems through the increase of bioreceptors loading
capacity on the surface. In this review, novel approaches based on nanomaterial-modified systems
in the point of care diagnostics are highlighted.

Abstract
We developed a novel hydroxylamine sensor through the surface modification of screen-printed electrode (SPE) with NiCo2O4 nanoparticles/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanocomposite (NiCo2O4/RGO/SPE). We assessed the electrochemical response of hydroxylamine on the as-fabricated sensor, confirming the high electrocatalytic impact of hydroxylamine oxidation. The electrode produced sensitively responded to hydroxylamine under optimized conditions, with a low limit of detection (2.0 nM) and broad linear dynamic range (0.007-385.0 µM). The presence of NiCo2O4 combined with the modification of RGO resulted in sensitive detection and signal amplification of hydroxylamine oxidation. The proposed sensor was used to determine the existence of hydroxylamine in water samples.

Abstract
AbstractIn this study, the electrochemical properties of myosmine, one of the tobacco alkaloids, were investigated for the first time using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) techniques on glassy carbon electrode (GCE). Using GCE with CV technique, it gave an irreversible reduction peak with diffusion control at about −1.38 V in Britton‐Robinson (BR, pH 12.0) medium. A good linear relationship between concentration and current in the range of 0.5 μM–3.5 μM in BR (pH 12.0) medium on GCE with DPV technique [Ip(μA)=0.847 C(μM)+0.114, r=0.995, n=7] has been observed. The proposed method has been successfully applied to tobacco leaves.

Abstract
The advanced and high-functional activities of magnesium oxide and copper oxide nanoparticles encourage the extensive use of these metal oxides as remarkable electroactive materials in electrochemical and sensing detections. The current study described a comparative sensing activity and selectivity of modified coated wire membrane sensors enriched with magnesium oxide and copper oxide nanoparticles for quantifying the breast cancer medication letrozole (LTZ) in its pharmaceutical form and human plasma. The fabricated sensors were based on the incorporation of LTZ with phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) to form the electroactive complex letrozole-phosphomolybate (LTZ-PM) in the presence of o-nitrophenyloctyl ether (o-NPOE) as a solvent mediator. Under optimum conditions, the modified sensors LTZ-PM-MgONPs and LTZ-PM-CuONPs demonstrated linear relationships of 1.0 × 10-8-1.0 × 10-2 and 1.0 × 10-10-1.0 × 10-2 mol L-1, respectively. Least square equations were calculated as EmV = (56.4 ± 0.7) log [LTZ] + 569.6 and EmV = (58.7 ± 0.3) log [LTZ] + 692.6 for LTZ-PM-MgONPs and LTZ-PM-CuONPs, respectively. The conventional type LTZ-PM showed a potential response EmV = (53.3 ± 0.5) log [LTZ] + 451.4 over concentration range of 1.0 × 10-6-1.0 × 10-2 mol L-1. The suggested sensors were successfully used to determine LTZ in pharmaceutical formulations and biosamples. Method validation ensured the suitability of the suggested potentiometric sensors.

Abstract
Potentiometric-based biosensors have the potential to advance the detection of several biological compounds and help in early diagnosis of various diseases. They belong to the portable analytical class of biosensors for monitoring biomarkers in the human body. They contain ion-sensitive membranes sensors can be used to determine potassium, sodium, and chloride ions activity while being used as a biomarker to gauge human health. The potentiometric based ion-sensitive membrane systems can be coupled with various techniques to create a sensitive tool for the fast and early detection of cancer biomarkers and other critical biological compounds. This paper discusses the application of potentiometric-based biosensors and classifies them into four major categories: photoelectrochemical potentiometric biomarkers, potentiometric biosensors amplified with molecular imprinted polymer systems, wearable potentiometric biomarkers and light-addressable potentiometric biosensors. This review demonstrated the development of several innovative biosensor-based techniques that could potentially provide reliable tools to test biomarkers. Some challenges however remain, but these can be removed by coupling techniques to maximize the testing sensitivity.

Abstract
Lung cancer is one of deadliest and most life threatening cancer types. Cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1) is a significant biomarker for the diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Due to these reasons, a novel electrochemical immunosensor based on a silicon nitride (Si3N4)-molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) composite on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Si3N4/MoS2-MWCNTs) as an electrochemical sensor platform and core-shell type magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles@gold nanoparticles (MMSNs@AuNPs) as a signal amplifier was presented for CYFRA21-1 detection in this study. Capture antibody (Ab1) immobilization on a Si3N4/MoS2-MWCNT modified glassy carbon electrode (Si3N4/MoS2-MWCNTs/GCE) was firstly successfully performed by stable electrostatic/ionic interactions between the -NH2 groups of the capture antibody and the polar groups of Si3N4/MoS2. Then, specific antibody-antigen interactions between the electrochemical sensor platform and the signal amplifier formed a novel voltammetric CYFRA21-1 immunosensor. The prepared composite materials and electrochemical sensor surfaces were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). A linearity range of 0.01-1.0 pg mL-1 and a low detection limit (LOD) of 2.00 fg mL-1 were also obtained for analytical applications. Thus, the proposed immunosensor based on Si3N4/MoS2-MWCNTs and MMSNs@AuNPs has great potential for medical diagnosis of lung cancer.

Abstract
TNF-α, as a pro-inflammatory cytokine, regulates some physiological and pathological courses. TNF-α level increases in some important diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and diabetes. In addition, it displays an important function in Alzheimer's and cardiovascular diseases. Herein, a novel, sensitive, and selective voltammetric TNF-α immunosensor was prepared by using gold nanoparticles involved in thiol-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (AuNPs/S-MWCNTs) as sensor platform and bimetallic Ni/Cu-MOFs as sensor amplification. Firstly, the sensor platform was developed on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface by using mixture of thiol-functionalized MWCNTs (S-MWCNTs) and AuNPs. Then, capture TNF-α antibodies were conjugated to sensor platform by amino-gold affinity. After capture TNF-α antibodies' immobilization, a new-type voltammetric TNF-α immunosensor was developed by immune reaction between AuNPs/S-MWCNTs immobilized with primer TNF-α antibodies and bimetallic Ni/Cu-MOFs conjugated with seconder TNF-α antibodies. The prepared TNF-α immunosensor was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD) method, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). A linearity range of 0.01-1.0 pg mL-1 and a low detection limit of 2.00 fg mL-1 were also obtained for analytical applications.

Abstract
A new adsorbent, poly(amide-imide)/zinc sulfide nanocomposite (PAI/ZnS NC), was fabricated and identified by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, field emission-scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Then, the obtained NC was applied for the simultaneous removal of auramine O (AO) and rhodamine B (RB) dyes from aqueous solution via the interactions of hydrogen bonding, π– π stacking, and Lewis acid–base interaction. The effects of operational variables including pH, PAI/ZnS NC mass, AO and RB concentration, and sonication time on removal efficiency were examined and optimized values were found to be 8.0, 16 mg, 11 mg L−1, and 6 min, respectively. The adsorption capacities of PAI/ZnS NC for the removal of AO and RB dyes were found to be 70.92 and 91.74 mg g−1, respectively. Ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometer was used to determine the amount of residual dye in solution. Fitting the experimental equilibrium data to isotherm models such as Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich reveals the suitability of the Langmuir model with high correlation coefficients ( R2 = 0.998 for AO and R2 = 0.999 for RB). Pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, intraparticle diffusion, and Elovich kinetic models applicability was tested and the pseudo-second-order equation controls the kinetics of the adsorption process. Furthermore, this study establishes that PAI/ZnS NC can be successfully applied as a low-cost adsorbent and conserve its high efficiency after nine cycles for the removal of AO and RB dyes.

In this study, a selective and sensitive molecular imprinting-based electrochemical sensors, for horseradish peroxidase (HRP) entrapment was fabricated using electro polymerization of ß-Cyclodextrin (ß-CD) on the surface of glassy carbon electrode. Poly beta-cyclodextrin P(ß-CD) provide efficient surface area for self-immobilization of HRP as well as improve imprinting efficiency. The proposed imprinted biosensor successfully utilized for detection of HRP with excellent analytical results which linear range is 0.1 mg/mL to 10 ng/mL with LOD of 2.23 ng/mL. Furthermore, electrocatalytical activity of the prepared biosensor toward the reduction of hydrogen peroxide was investigated in the ranges of 1 to 15 μM with a detection limit of 0.4 μM by using chronoamperometry technique. The developed biosensor was used for the detection of hydrogen peroxide in unprocessed human plasma sample.

Abstract
It is essential to develop easy-to-use sensors towards a better monitoring of food additives so that human health can be positively influenced. A type of critical food additive that is widely used in making soft drinks and diverse foodstuff is called amaranth. This study aimed at presenting a novel Pd/GO nanomaterial-modified screen-printed electrode (Pd/GO/SPE), which is responsible for providing a sensing interface during the process of specifying the electrochemical features of amaranth. The morphology and structure of the Pd/GO nanomaterial was investigated by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. When the optimized conditions was adjusted, Pd/GO/SPE proved to be a capable sensor for conducting a very sensitive sensing towards the amaranth under a common working situation of 575 mV. In this regard, it was embarked on measuring some of the sensor features, including its sensitivity, linear dynamic range, and detection limit for amaranth with the values of 0.0948 μA μM-1, 0.08 μM-360.0 μM and 30.0 nM were obtained, respectively.

Abstract
In this study, a flat sheet direct contact membrane distillation (DCMD) module was designed to eliminate nitrate from water. A polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane was used in a DCMD process at an ambient pressure and at a temperature lower than the boiling point of water. The electrical conductivity of the feed containing nitrate increased, while the electrical conductivity of the permeate remained constant during the entire process. The results indicated that the nitrate ions failed to pass through the membrane and their concentration in the feed increased as pure water passed through the membrane. Consequently, the membrane was modified using TiO2 nanoparticles to make a hierarchical surface with multi-layer roughness on the micro/nanoscales. Furthermore, 1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluorododecyltrichlorosilane (FTCS) was added to the modified surface to change its hydrophobic properties into superhydrophobic properties and to improve its performance. The results for both membranes were compared and reported on a pilot scale using MATLAB. In the experimental scale (a membrane surface area of 0.0014 m2, temperature of 77 °C, nitrate concentration of 0.9 g/Kg, and flow rate of 0.0032 Kg/s), the flux was 2.3 Kgm−2h−1. The simulation results of MATLAB using these data showed that for the removal of nitrate (with a concentration of 35 g/Kg) from the intake feed with a flow rate of 1 Kg/s and flux of 0.96 Kgm−2h−1, a membrane surface area of 0.5 m2 was needed.

Abstract
Amoxicillin (AMX) is among the most successful antibiotics used for human therapy. It is used extensively to prevent or treat bacterial infections in humans and animals. However, the widespread distribution and excess utilization of AMX can be an environmental and health risk due to the hazardous potential associated to its pharmaceutical industries effluents. Besides, their extensive use in food animal production may result in some undesirable residues in food, e.g. meat, eggs and milk. Consequently, at high enough concentrations in biological fluids, AMX may be responsible of various diseases such as nausea, vomiting, rashes, and antibiotic-associated colitis. For this reason, the detection and quantification of amoxicillin in pharmaceuticals, biological fluids, environmental samples and foodstuffs require new electroanalytical techniques with sensitive and rapid measurement abilities. This review discusses recent advances in the development of electrochemical sensors and bio-sensors for AMX analysis in complex matrices such as pharmaceuticals, biological fluids, environmental water and foodstuffs. The main electrochemical sensors used are based on chemically modified electrodes involving carbon materials and nanomaterials, nanoparticles, polymers and biological recognition molecules.

Abstract
Multidrug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is known to be a problematic bacterium for being a major cause of opportunistic and nosocomial infections. In this study, reduced graphene oxide decorated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs/rGO) was utilized as a new sensing material for a fast and direct electrochemical detection of pyocyanin as a biomarker of P. aeruginosa infections. Under optimal condition, the developed electrochemical pyocyanin sensor exhibited a good linear range for the determination of pyocyanin in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), human saliva and urine at a clinically relevant concentration range of 1-100 μM, achieving a detection limit of 0.27 μM, 1.34 μM, and 2.3 μM, respectively. Our developed sensor demonstrated good selectivity towards pyocyanin in the presence of interfering molecule such as ascorbic acid, uric acid, NADH, glucose, and acetylsalicylic acid, which are commonly found in human fluids. Furthermore, the developed sensor was able to discriminate the signal with and without the presence of pyocyanin directly in P. aeruginosa culture. This proposed technique demonstrates its potential application in monitoring the presence of P. aeruginosa infection in patients.

Abstract
Background:
Over the past few decades, environmental pollution has appeared to be one of the most crucial
global problems. The widespread intensification of numerous hazardous pollutants in the environment need the modern
researchers to develop viable, reproducible and cost-effective determination tools for the reliable environmental analysis.
The beneficial, as well as perilous, biological compounds are receiving growing interest due to their variable composition
which produces advantageous and toxic impacts on human and the environment. Several conventional analytical methods
have been established for the pharmaceutical and environmental analysis. However, certain drawbacks limited their
practices in the modern rapidly growing era of science and technology. The development of electrochemical sensors has
emerged as more beneficial and promising tool as against other traditional analytical approaches, in terms of simplicity,
cost-effectiveness, sensitivity, stability and reliability. Nonetheless, the over potential and low anodic/cathodic current
response are both considered as bottlenecks for the determination of electroactive entities exploiting electrochemical
sensors. Interestingly, these problems can be easily resolved by modifying the electrodes with a variety of conductive
materials, especially nanostructures.
Objective:
This review covers different electrochemical methods, reported in the literature, for the environmental and
pharmaceutical analysis through simple and cost-effective nanostructures-based sensors. The electrochemical techniques
with different modes and the modification of electrodes with highly conductive and prolific polymeric and nanostructured
materials used for the determination of different environmental and pharmaceutical samples are the main prominence of
this review. Various kinds of nanomaterials, e.g. metal, metal oxide and their composites, have been synthesized for the
fabrication of sensitive electrodes.
Conclusion:
Nanostructures played a pivotal role in the modification of electrodes, which substantially enhanced the
capability and sensitivity of electrochemical sensors. The proper modification of electrodes has materialized the swift
detection of electroactive compounds at very low limits and offered the feasible determination procedure without any kind
of signal fluctuation and over potential. In crux, due to their enhanced surface area and excellent catalytic properties,
nanomaterials recently appeared as the most promising candidates in the field of electrode modification and significantly
impacted the detection protocols for various environmental pollutants, viz. pesticides, metal ions and drugs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Peripheral artery disease, one type of atherosclerosis, is a common medical condition in the world that results from plaque build-up in the peripheral blood vessels. The symptoms of this disease are the senses of pain and weakness in outer muscles. METHODS The artery under consideration is called the popliteal artery. In this model, the blood flow is considered as pulsating. Therefore the inlet boundary condition is taken as unsteady velocity, and the outlet boundary condition is taken the outflow. The inlet boundary condition represents the increasing systole flow and the decreasing diastole flow, which occur naturally in blood flow. Systolic flow occurs when the heart contracts and pumps blood into the arteries. The inlet blood flow is in the form of a sine-cosine parabolic profile. RESULTS The artery bends from the middle at an angle of 45°. As the bending of the artery begins, the flow field also takes a bent form. At this point, the flow bends from the outside of the top wall and enfolds the bottom wall in its bending. For different periods, the popliteal flow is closer to the lower bend when the inlet velocity is more significant. While the top wall experiences a low-intensity region along the bend, the bottom wall experiences the same effect just before and after the bend. As the blood flows along the bend, the flow path becomes significantly curved near the bend, similar to the model. The clotted artery exhibits a large increase in flow due to a reduction in the cross-section as a result of the clotting in half of the artery. The flow before the clotting is not considerably different from the main model of the straight artery. CONCLUSIONS Like shear stress, the pressure drop has a linear relationship with the blood HCT and, hence, the viscosity. The pressure drop decreases with the inlet velocity reaching its maximum value and then increases with the start of the acceleration reduction in the second and third-time steps. This indicates that the pressure drop has a stronger relationship with the acceleration than the inlet velocity.

Preparation of Dawson heteropolyacid-embedded silver nanoparticles/graphene oxide nanocomposite thin film used to modify pencil graphite electrode as a sensor for trace electrochemical sensing of levodopa. MATERIALS SCIENCE & ENGINEERING. C, MATERIALS FOR BIOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS 2020; 117:111287. Abstract
Measurement of levodopa (LD) as the most efficient treatment accessible for controlling the symptoms of Parkinson's disease was investigated. The electrocatalytic measurement of LD was performed at the surface of pencil graphite electrode (PGE) modified with graphene oxide (GO) and silver nanoparticle@Dawson heteropolyacid (AgNPs@DHPA). For this purpose, GO and the intermediate (AgNPs@DHPA) were first synthesized using a simple, cost-effective and straightforward method. The synthetic compounds, morphology, and surface characteristics of the modified sensor were evaluated. The results demonstrated that AgNPs@DHPA well-dispersed on the GO/PGE surface with a mean size of 6.27 nm and thickness of 42 nm. The electrochemical behavior of the modified PGE was also investigated. The heterogeneous charge transfer rate constant (ks) and transfer coefficient (α) for the electron transfer between AgNPs@DHPA/GO and PGE were obtained as 16.44 s-1 and 0.59, respectively. Also, the diffusion coefficient of LD for AgNPs@DHPA/GO/PGE thin film was calculated using chronoamperometric experiments (D = 9.05 × 10-6 cm2 s-1). Optimal parameters were obtained to access the best response for the measurement of LD. The results revealed that the modified PGE was able to measure the trace amounts of LD in phosphate buffer solution (pH = 6.0) in the concentration ranges from 3.0 × 10-9 to 1.0 × 10-7 M and 1.0 × 10-7 to 1.0 × 10-5 M. The calculated limit of detection was obtained 7.6 × 10-10 M which was much better than the previously reported electrochemical sensors. The modified electrode was used to measure LD in tablet, blood serum and urine.

Abstract
In this study, a Pt-Pd-doped NiO nanoparticle decorated at the surface of single-wall carbon nanotubes (Pt-Pd/NiO-NPs/SWCNTs) was synthesized using a simple chemical precipitation method and characterized by XRD, TEM, and EDS methods. The results confirmed that Pt-Pd/NiO-NPs/SWCNTs were synthesized with good purity and at the nanoscale size. Moreover, a highly sensitive electroanalytical sensor was fabricated by incorporating synthesized Pt-Pd/NiO-NPs/SWCNT nanocomposites into a carbon paste electrode (CPE) in the presence of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methanesulfonate (EMICH3SO3-) as binder. The Pt-Pd/NiO-NPs/SWCNTs/EMICH3SO3-/CPE showed a powerful electro-catalytic activity for electro-oxidation of nalbuphine, and the results confirmed that the oxidation of nalbuphine was improved 6.34 times and relative oxidation potential was decreased about 110 mV compared to unmodified electrodes. The Pt-Pd/NiO-NPs/SWCNTs/EMICH3SO3-/CPE also showed good catalytic activity for the determination of nalbuphine in the presence of tramadol and the oxidation potential of these opioid analgesic drugs separated with ΔE =460 mV. In the final step, the Pt-Pd/NiO-NPs/SWCNTs/EMICH3SO3-/CPE was used to determine nalbuphine with a detection limit of 0.9 nM and tramadol with a detection limit of 50.0 nM in drug samples. The results confirmed the powerful and interesting ability of the sensor in the analysis of a real sample.

Abstract
Measuring the concentration of anticancer drugs in pharmacological and biological samples is a very useful solution to investigate the effectiveness of these drugs in the chemotherapy process. A Pt,Pd-doped, NiO-decorated SWCNTs (Pt,Pd-NiO/SWCNTs) nanocomposite was synthesized using a one-pot procedure and combining chemical precipitation and ultrasonic sonochemical methods and subsequently characterized by TEM and EDS analysis methods. The analyses results showed the high purity and good distribution of elements and the ~10-nm diameter of the Pt,Pd-NiO nanoparticle decorated on the surface of the SWCNTs with a diameter of about 20-30 nm. Using a combination of Pt,Pd-NiO/SWCNTs and 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate (1B23DTFB) in a carbon paste (CP) matrix, Pt,Pd-NiO/SWCNTs/1B23DTFB/CP was fabricated as a highly sensitive analytical tool for the electrochemical determination of daunorubicin in the concentration range of 0.008-350 μM with a detection limit of 3.0 nM. Compared to unmodified CP electrodes, the electro-oxidation process of daunorubicin has undergone significant improvements in current (about 9.8 times increasing in current) and potential (about 110 mV) decreasing in potential). It is noteworthy that the designed sensor can well measure daunorubicin in the presence of tamoxifen (two breast anticancer drugs with a ΔE = 315 mV. According to the real sample analysis data, the Pt,Pd-NiO/SWCNTs/1B23DTFB/CP has proved to be a promising methodology for the analysis and measuring of daunorubicin and tamoxifen in real (e.g., pharmaceutical) samples.
