Abstract
A series of propanones containing combinations of aryloxy and alkoxy substituents at the 1- and 3-positions were reduced to the alcohols via asymmetric transfer hydrogenation using a tethered Ru(II)/TsDPEN catalyst. The enantioselectivities of the reductions reveal a complex pattern of electronic and steric effects which, when used in a matched combination, can lead to the formation of products of up to 68% ee (84:16 er) from this highly challenging class of substrate.

Abstract
Iridacycles are a group of cyclometalated metal complexes, which have recently been shown to be versatile catalysts for a range of reactions. This Feature Article provides an account of the work carried out by our groups. We start with an introduction to the variety of iridacycles and how they entered into catalysis. The following sections provide an overview of the discovery and applications in catalysis of the iridacycles originated from our labs, including transfer hydrogenation with formic acid, hydrogenation with H2, dehydrogenation and borrowing-hydrogen reactions. Where possible, mechanistic insight is also presented. A notable advantage of these iridacycles is their ease of preparation, stability to air and water and high modularity. With only one coordination site available for substrate activation, the iridacycles differ from most homogeneous catalysts structure-wise.

Abstract
A mild catalyst system for the synthesis of chiral amino alcohols via asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of α-phthalimide ketones has been developed by using a chiral Ru-TsDPEN complex as the catalyst in DMF/MeOH at 40 °C. The reaction exhibits high reaction activity and excellent enantioselectivity where up to 96% yield and 99% ee of the product were obtained.

Abstract
A strategy for oxidative kinetic resolution of racemic indolines was developed, employing salicylaldehyde derivative as the pre-resolving reagent and chiral phosphoric acid as the catalyst. The iminium intermediate, formed by the condensation reaction of an enantiomer of indoline with salicylaldehyde derivative, was hydrogenated by the same enantiomer of indoline to afford another enantiomer of indoline by a self-redox mechanism. The oxidative kinetic resolution of 2-aryl-substituted indolines proceeded to give enantiomers in good yields with excellent enantioselectivities.

Abstract
The first Ir-catalyzed intramolecular asymmetric allylic dearomatization reaction of pyridines, pyrazines, quinolines, and isoquinolines has been developed. Enabled by in situ formed chiral Ir-catalyst, the dearomatized products were isolated in high levels of yield (up to 99% yield) and enantioselectivity (up to 99% ee). It is worth noting that the Me-THQphos ligand is much more efficient than other tested ligands for the dearomatization of pyrazines and certain quinolines. Mechanistic studies of the dearomatization reaction were carried out, and the results suggest the feasibility of an alternative process which features the formation of a quinolinium as the key intermediate. The mechanistic findings render this reaction a yet unknown type in the chemistry of Reissert-type reactions. In addition, the utility of this method was showcased by a large-scale reaction and formal synthesis of (+)-gephyrotoxin.
