Abstract
Racemic 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrroles, hypothetical intermediates of the Barton-Zard reaction, were synthesized in a highly diastereoselective manner and fully characterized for the first time. Kinetic resolution of the dihydropyrroles with a quinine-derived thiourea afforded the (+)-3-arylpyrrole products and recovered (+)-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrroles with high efficiency (s-factor up to 153). The resolved (+)-3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrroles underwent subsequent aromatization with a quinidine-derived thiourea catalyst to afford (-)-3-arylpyrroles with excellent central-to-axial chirality transfer. In contrast to the well-accepted Barton-Zard mechanism, the aromatization of the 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyrroles in the presence of a bifunctional catalyst is believed to proceed by an unprecedented sequence involving syn elimination of HNO2 and aromatization.

Abstract
The stereodynamic behavior of 1-arylpyrrolidin-2-imines, having a Caryl-N stereogenic axis, has been studied by means of dynamic nuclear magnetic resonance and density functional theory calculations, evaluating the steric effect of ortho-aryl substituents. The rotational barrier due to E/Z isomerism about the -C=N-H bond was also determined. The dynamic stereochemistry of homologous six- and seven-membered iminoazacycloalkane rings and their oxo-analogues was also comparatively investigated, evidencing a ring size effect. It was found that the seven-membered heterocycle shows additional dynamic features because of ring inversion.

Abstract
A single alkynyl vinylogous carbonate was elaborated to tetrasubstituted furan or dihydrofuran via a cascade inter-intramolecular radical reaction by changing the radical being added. The strategy could be used in the synthesis of polycyclic heterocycles as well as bis-furan exhibiting atropisomerism. Installation of a new furan motif on the existing one was feasible by iteration. Stannyl dihydrofuran derivative was used in Stille coupling, whereas intramolecular Friedel-Crafts acylation on the furan gave furanonaphthol.
