Abstract
The COVID-19 has sent billions of students worldwide into lockdown. The study aimed to assess the prevalence of anxiety and identify the factors associated with anxiety among French students during lockdown.A cross-sectional study was conducted to collect sociodemographic data, living and learning conditions, anxiety symptoms and social support. Among 3936 students, 15.2%, experienced moderate anxiety and 9.8%, severe anxiety.Female gender (OR=2.2, 95% CI: 1.8-2.7) and having relatives or acquaintances from their housing hospitalized for COVID-19 (OR=3.3, 95% CI: 1.4-7.9) were the main risk factors for anxiety. Tensions at home (OR=1.8, 95% CI: 1.5-2.1), difficulties isolating (OR=1.4, 95% CI: 1.1-1.6), noises inside (OR=1.6, 95% CI: 1.3-1.9) or outside the housing (OR=1.5, 95% CI: 1.3-1.8), no direct outdoor access (OR=1.6, 95% CI: 1.3-2.0), delay in final examination (OR=1.6, 95% CI: 1.3-2.1), reduced time for learning (OR=1.3, 95% CI: 1.1-1.6), increased tobacco consumption (OR=1.9, 95% CI: 1.4-2.6), ineffectiveness of using media entertainment (OR=2.2, 95% CI: 1.1-4.4) and reading (OR=1.9, 95% CI: 1.3-2.7) to calm down, were identified as risk factors. Family (OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.8-0.91) and friend (OR=0.88, 95% CI: 0.82-0.94) support were protective factors. This suggests the need to focus on students during epidemics, especially those living with someone hospitalized with COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Fear of having a seizure called anticipatory anxiety of epileptic seizure (AAS), constitutes a daily life burden but has been rarely studied. Our aim was to assess the prevalence and the determining factors of AAS in patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy, a dimension that has not been thoroughly investigated before. METHODS We conducted an observational, prospective study enrolling patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. The psychiatric assessment aimed to evaluate psychiatric comorbidities, trauma history, and quality of life using hetero-evaluation and self-assessment tools. Dimensions of anxiety specifically related to epilepsy (peri-and-inter-ictal) were explored as exhaustively as possible. RESULTS AAS was found in 53 % of the 87 patients. We compared the two groups of patients: with or without AAS. Patients with AAS had a significantly shorter duration of epilepsy (p = 0.04). There was no difference between groups with respect to psychiatric disorders, except for cannabis dependence, more frequent in patients with AAS (p = 0.02). Compared to patients without AAS, those with AAS presented more subjective ictal anxiety (p = 0.0003) and postictal anxiety (p = 0.02), were more likely to avoid outdoor social situations due to seizure fear (p = 0.001), and had a poorer quality of life (QOLIE emotional well-being; p = 0.03). Additionally, they had experienced more traumatic events in their lifetime (p = 0.005) and reported more frequently a feeling of being unsafe during their seizures (p = 0.00002). SIGNIFICANCE AAS is a specific dimension of anxiety, possibly linked to trauma history. AAS is strongly linked to subjective ictal anxiety but not to the objective severity of seizures or frequency.

Abstract
PURPOSE Traditional neuropsychological testing carries elevated COVID-19 risk for both examinee and examiner. Here we describe how the pilot study of the Australian Epilepsy Project (AEP) has transitioned to tele-neuropsychology (teleNP), enabling continued safe operations during the pandemic. METHODS The AEP includes adults (age 18-60) with a first unprovoked seizure, new diagnosis of epilepsy or drug resistant focal epilepsy. Shortly after launching the study, COVID-related restrictions necessitated adaptation to teleNP, including delivery of verbal tasks via videoconference; visual stimulus delivery via document camera; use of web-hosted, computerised assessment; substitution of oral versions for written tests; online delivery of questionnaires; and discontinuation of telehealth incompatible tasks. RESULTS To date, we have completed 24 teleNP assessments: 18 remotely (participant in own home) and six on-site (participant using equipment at research facility). Five face-to-face assessments were conducted prior to the transition to teleNP. Eight of 408 tests administered via teleNP (1.9 %) have been invalidated, for a variety of reasons (technical, procedural, environmental). Data confirm typical patterns of epilepsy-related deficits (p < .05) affecting processing speed, executive function, language and memory. Questionnaire responses indicate elevated rates of patients at high risk of mood (34 %) and anxiety disorder (38 %). CONCLUSION Research teleNP assessments reveal a typical pattern of impairments in epilepsy. A range of issues must be considered when introducing teleNP, such as technical and administrative set up, test selection and delivery, and cohort suitability. TeleNP enables large-scale neuropsychological research during periods of social distancing (and beyond), and offers an opportunity to expand the reach and breadth of neuropsychological services.

Abstract
Malian healthcare workers presented mental disorders in the early stage of COVID-19. Nurses were at lower risk of mental health disorders than other worker categories. Women were at greater risk of mental health disorders than men. A lack of protection equipment and nurses was associated with mental disorders.
Background and objectives In Mali, the non-governmental association (NGO) ARCAD Santé PLUS launched the CovidPrev program in response to the COVID-19 outbreak to ensure continuity of HIV care-related activities. This study aimed to identify individual and structural factors associated with mental health disorders (MHD) in the NGO’s healthcare workers (HCW) in the early stage of the outbreak. Methods Data were collected between April 6 and 11, 2020 for 135 HCW in ARCAD Santé PLUS’s 18 community-based HIV care centers. Outcomes corresponded to the PHQ-9, GAD-7 and ISI instruments for depression, anxiety and insomnia, respectively. A general mixture model with a negative binomial distribution was implemented. Results Most HCW were men (60.7%) and median age was 40 years IQR[33-46]. Symptoms of depression, anxiety and insomnia were declared by 71.9, 73.3, and 77% participants, respectively. Women were at greater risk of MHD. A lack of personal protection equipment and human resources, especially nurses, was associated with a high risk of MHD. Conclusions Health policy must place non-front line HCW, including those in NGOs, at the core of the healthcare system response to the COVID-19 outbreak, as they ensure continuity of care for many diseases including HIV. The efficacy of public health strategies depends on the capacity of HCW to fully with and competently perform their duties.

Abstract
The process of transition from pediatric to adult epilepsy care has received increased attention and emphasis in recent literature, particularly related to the assertion that effective transition is likely to lead to improved medical and psychosocial outcomes. However, the majority of current transition literature focuses on the structure of a transition program, with very little research providing relevant clinical data during the transition period and beyond. The current paper attempts to address this gap in the literature by providing pilot data on participants who engaged in the initial visit of a multidisciplinary transition-focused program housed in a level 4 epilepsy center in the Midwest. Pilot data are presented on 28 participants (36% female) who completed the initial transition appointment. All but one participant presented with a positive history for a neurobehavioral comorbidity, the most common of which included anxiety (61%), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD; 39%) and depression (36%). Seventy-seven percent of participants further identified a current neurobehavioral comorbidity that was impacting their psychosocial functioning. Recommendations provided most frequently involved increased independence with epilepsy management (64%), increased independence with self-care/independent living (82%), psychological intervention (43%), and increased socialization (43%). A case example is also provided to further highlight program process and outcomes of the initial visit. Pilot results emphasize the value of multidisciplinary care involving psychosocial providers to facilitate a smooth transition between pediatric and adult healthcare.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Suicide constitutes a cause of death which could be prevented by e-health programs accessible to the general population. Effective promotion has the potential to maximize the uptake of such programs. However, few e-health programs have been combined with promotion campaigns. The primary objective of this trial is to assess the effectiveness of a tailored promotion, at a local level, of a mobile application and website offering evidence-based content for suicide prevention (the StopBlues program), and to compare the effectiveness of two types of local promotion in terms of their impact on suicidal acts. Secondary objectives focus on the effectiveness of the promotion in terms of the intensity of utilization of the StopBlues program, help-seeking behaviors and the level of psychological impairment of program users. METHODS/DESIGN This is a three-arm, parallel-group, cluster-randomized controlled trial, with before-and-after observation. Thirty-four clusters, corresponding to geographical areas sharing a common local authority in France, will be included. They will be randomly assigned to one of the following arms with a ratio of 1:1:1: a control group; a basic promotion group in which promotion of the StopBlues program will be done by local authorities; and an intensified promotion group in which basic promotion will be supplemented by an additional one in a general practitioner's waiting room. The primary outcome measure will be the number of suicidal acts within each cluster over a 12-month period following the launch of the intervention. Baseline data will be collected for each cluster over the 12-month period prior to the trial. Secondary outcomes will include length of use of the StopBlues program, measures of help-seeking behaviors and level of psychological distress among users of the program, as well as the cost-effectiveness and budgetary impact of its promotion. A more sustained promotion by local authorities will also be implemented after 12 months in the control group and assessed using the same outcome measures. DISCUSSION This research should contribute to the sparse evidence base regarding the promotion of e-health programs and will support the wider delivery of the intervention evaluated if proven effective. Abstract
This article reviews common and clinically important neuropsychiatric aspects of epilepsy. Comorbidities are common, underdiagnosed, and powerfully impact clinical outcomes. Biological, psychological, and social factors contribute to the associations between epilepsy and neuropsychiatric disorders. Epidemiologic studies point to a bidirectional relationships between epilepsy and neuropsychiatric disorders. People with epilepsy are more likely to develop certain neuropsychiatric disorders, and those with these disorders are more likely to develop epilepsy. This relationship suggests the possibility of shared underlying pathophysiologies. We review the neuropsychiatric impact of antiseizure medications and therapeutic options for treatment. Diagnosis and treatment involve close collaboration among a multidisciplinary team.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Anxiety and depression in epilepsy are prevalent, associated with poor outcomes, underrecognized, undertreated, and thus a key area of need for treatment research. The objective of this study was to assess factors associated with research participation among epilepsy clinic patients who screened positive for anxiety or depression. This was accomplished by characterizing clinical and psychiatric factors among patients seen in an epilepsy clinic and evaluating which factors were associated with consent for potential research participation, via a combined clinical and research screening model. METHODS In a pragmatic trial of anxiety and depression treatment in epilepsy, individuals with a positive screen for anxiety and/or depression at a routine epilepsy clinic visit were invited to opt-in (via brief electronic consent) to further eligibility assessment for a randomized treatment study. Information on psychiatric symptoms and treatment characteristics were collected for dual clinical care and research screening purposes. Cross-sectional association of demographic, clinical, and psychiatric factors with opting-in to research was analyzed by multiple logistic regression. RESULTS Among N = 199 unique adults with a first positive screen for anxiety and/or depression among 786 total screening events, 154 (77.4%) opted-in to further potential research assessment. Higher depression scores and current treatment with an antidepressant were independently associated with opting-in to research (depression odds ratio (OR) = 1.13 per 1-point increase in Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory-Epilepsy (NDDI-E) score, p = 0.028, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.01-1.26; antidepressant OR = 2.37, p = 0.041, CI: 1.04-5.41). Nearly half of the 199 individuals (43.7%) with anxiety and/or depression symptoms were already being treated with an antidepressant, and 46.7% were receiving neither antidepressant therapy nor mental health specialty care. One-quarter (24.1%) reported a past psychiatric hospitalization, yet only half of these individuals were receiving mental health specialty care. SIGNIFICANCE Our results demonstrate a high willingness to participate in research using a brief electronic consent approach at a routine clinic visit. Adults with persistent anxiety or depression symptoms despite antidepressant therapy and those with higher depression scores were more willing to consider a randomized treatment study. This has implications for future study design, as individuals already on treatment or those with more severe symptoms are often excluded from traditional research designs. We also found a high burden of psychiatric disease and high prevalence of persistent symptoms despite ongoing antidepressant treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE The highest risk of suicide was identified among patients diagnosed with both epilepsy and comorbid psychiatric disease. The most common comorbid psychiatric conditions of epilepsy are anxiety and depression. This study examines whether and how seizure frequency, depression and generalized anxiety interact to influence suicidal tendency. METHODS A consecutive cohort of PWE was recruited from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. Each patient completed the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy scale[NDDI-E], the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and the suicidality module of Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview(MINI) v.5.0.0. Spearman's correlation and moderated mediation analysis were used to examine the associations among seizure frequency, depression, generalized anxiety and suicidal tendency. RESULTS Seizure frequency was positively associated with suicidal tendency. Depression severity partially mediated the relationship between seizure frequency and suicidal tendency. The indirect effect of seizure frequency on suicidal tendency was positive, and accounted for 50.2 % of the total effect of seizure frequency on suicidal tendency. The indirect effect of seizure frequency on suicidal tendency through depression severity was positively moderated by generalized anxiety severity. CONCLUSIONS Reducing seizure frequency may be the basis of suicide prevention in PWE. At the same time, the effect of seizure frequency on suicidal tendency can be partially explained by the mediation of depression severity, and the magnitude of the indirect effect of seizure frequency on suicidal tendency was contingent upon generalized anxiety severity. In addition to depression severity, generalized anxiety severity also exerts an important effect on suicidal tendency in PWE.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to validate a Georgian version of the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E). The distribution of psychiatric disorders was assessed among patients with epilepsy. METHODS One hundred and thirty consecutive adult patients with epilepsy completed the NDDI-E and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). All patients were further assessed by a qualified psychiatrist. RESULTS In 31 (23.8%) patients, a diagnosis of major depression was revealed. The internal consistency of the NDDI-E was 0.695. Receiver operating characteristics (ROC) showed an area under the curve of 0.975. A cutoff score of ≥16 resulted in a sensitivity of 0.90 and a specificity of 0.939. The screening questionnaire showed a significantly positive correlation with BDI scores (Spearman's rho - 0.684), indicating good concurrent validity. DISCUSSION The Georgian version of the NDDI-E is a reliable tool for the detection of depressive disorders in individuals with epilepsy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Anxiety is a common neurological condition often comorbid with epilepsy, with approximately 20% of patients with epilepsy exhibiting symptoms of anxiety. Despite this prevalence, accurate and efficacious tools designed to screen for anxiety specifically in patients with epilepsy have not yet been developed. The purpose of this study is to systematically review the literature and better understand this relationship. METHODS Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PsyclNFO were searched until April 22nd, 2019 without language restrictions. We extracted abstracts, data abstraction, and full-text reviews in duplicate and chose the studies that included measures for anxiety screening in patients with epilepsy. The Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies Version was used to assess study quality. We used the medians and ranges to calculate the accuracy of the tools. RESULTS We screened 4758 abstracts and selected 11 articles dealing with anxiety. The most common validated anxiety screening tools were the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-A (HADS-A). The Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) was the most common reference standard used. SIGNIFICANCE Many studies have validated depression screening tools rather than anxiety. This lack of data has left much uncertainty about the relationship of epilepsy to anxiety, as well as diagnostic inconsistencies. The effectiveness of these assessments in practice may be overestimating the prevalence, as the cutpoints are usually chosen after the fact, based on the study sample.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The main objective of this study is to assess the prevalence of depression at 2, 6 and 12 months postpartum in women who have had an immediate postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) (blood loss ≥500 mL within 24 hours of delivery). The secondary objectives are to assess the prevalence of anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder among these women and to evaluate the prevalence of psychological disorders according to the severity of the PPH. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This repeated, cross-sectional, single-centre study will take place at the Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital (France). The population will comprise a cohort of women giving birth at a term ≥22 weeks of gestation.For each woman with a PPH (exposed), two women without PPH (unexposed) will be included: the women who give birth immediately before and immediately after her. The PPH will be managed according to French guidelines. The principal endpoint is the prevalence of depression, measured by the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). The intervention will consist of four surveys including various self-completed questionnaires: the first during the immediate postpartum (Post-Delivery Perceived Stress Inventory (PDPSI), Spielberger'sState-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)-Y-A and Y-B and Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.) 5.0.0), then at 2 months (EPDS, STAI-Y-A, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) and Revised Impact of Event Scale (IES-R)), and finally at 6 months and 1 year postpartum (EPDS, STAI-Y-A, GAD-7, M.I.N.I. 5.0.0 and IES-R). The study will include 1542 women - 514 with PPH. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The institutional review board (IRB) approved the study on 14 February 2017 (IRB Sud Est VI: N°AU1243).Results will be reported in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific meetings. Findings from the study will be useful for individualising medical follow-up after childbirth, especially for woman who experienced a PPH, but also more generally in increasing birth professionals' awareness of effects of trauma. The evidence obtained might also lead to modifying practices and including this recommendation in French guidelines on PPH. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER NCT03120208.

Abstract
Psychiatric comorbidities are common in patients with epilepsy (PWE). Depression and anxiety are the most prevalent of these comorbidities and are associated with worse quality of life. Several screening tools are available to identify and follow up these conditions. However, time constrains in outpatient clinic visits and limited access to mental healthcare professionals discourage clinicians to use them. This paper discusses the advantage and limitations of screening tools and makes a compelling argument for neurologists to take an active role in the diagnosis and treatment of common psychiatric comorbidities in PWE. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is one of the most common types of anxiety disorder in epilepsy population, comprising 21.9%, that would further impair patients' quality of life. Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) is the only screening tool for GAD that has been validated in patients with epilepsy (PWE). It is a self-reporting instrument that can be completed in less than three minutes; hence, its usage is appropriate in primary healthcare and neurology outpatient clinic. This study aimed to obtain a valid and reliable Indonesian version of GAD-7, assess its accuracy, and finally evaluate the prevalence of GAD in Indonesian PWE along with its contributing factors. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital, Jakarta. The GAD-7 was translated and adapted using World Health Organization (WHO) steps. Validity, reliability, test-retest reliability, and diagnostic accuracy were evaluated. Then, epilepsy outpatients were screened for GAD using the Indonesian version of GAD-7. RESULTS Internal validity and reliability for Indonesian version of GAD-7 were satisfactory with validity coefficient of 0.648 to 0.800 (p<0.01) and Cronbach's alpha value of 0.867. The best cutoff value to detect GAD in Indonesian PWE was >6 with the sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value, and positive predictive value of 100%, 84.4%, 100%, and 55.8%, respectively. ROC analysis showed the area under the curve of 0.98 (95% CI: 0.96-0.99). The total subjects screened with the validated Indonesian version of GAD-7 were 146, and 49% were screened as having GAD. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics had no statistically significant association with the presence of GAD. CONCLUSION The Indonesian version of GAD-7 was a valuable screening tool to detect GAD in PWE. GAD was screened in a quite high proportion of PWE. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were not proven to play role in its development.

Abstract
Psychiatric comorbidities are 2 to 3 times more frequent in patients with epilepsy than in the general population. This study aimed to prospectively assess the following: (i) the prevalence of specific and nonspecific interictal psychiatric comorbidities in a population of patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy and (ii) the influence of epilepsy lateralization and localization on these psychiatric comorbidities. In this prospective monocentric study, we collected demographic data, characteristics of the epilepsy, interictal psychiatric comorbidities, mood, anxiety, and alexithymia dimensions. We used criteria from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV ( DSM IV) (Mini International Mental Interview (MINI)), diagnosis criteria for specific comorbidities, and validated mood and anxiety scales (general and specific for epilepsy). Among the 87 enrolled patients (39 males, 48 females), 52.9% had at least one psychiatric comorbidity. The most common comorbidity was anxiety disorder (28.7% according to the MINI, and 38.4% screening by the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 (GAD 7)). Mood disorders were the second most frequent psychiatric comorbidity: 21.8% of our patients had interictal dysphoric disorders (IDDs), 16.1% presented major depressive disorders according to the MINI, and 17.2% screening by the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDIE). Patients with temporal lobe epilepsy had a higher prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities than patients with extratemporal lobe epilepsy (p = 0.002), which is probably related to a higher rate of anxiety disorders in this subgroup (p = 0.012). Prevalence of psychiatric disorders prior to epilepsy in patients was higher in right- than in left-sided epilepsy (p = 0.042). No difference was found according to limbic involvement at seizure onset. Overall, this article highlighted a very high proportion of anxiety disorders in these patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy and the necessity to systematically detect them and thus lead to a specific treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The current review aims at providing an overview of relevant aspects of anxiety symptoms and anxiety disorders (AD) in adults patients with epilepsy (PWE). RECENT FINDINGS Firstly, the appropriate diagnosis of type of anxiety symptoms and AD in PWE will be presented. Anxiety symptoms are often peri-ictal and classified in relation to their temporal occurrence to seizures. Anxiety symptoms are of three types: preictal (preceding a seizure), ictal (presenting as part of the seizure symptoms and signs), and postictal (occurring within 72 h of a seizure). AD are diagnosed in the interictal period and occur independently of seizures. Four specific AD in PWE can be objectified: anticipatory anxiety of epileptic seizures (AAS), seizure phobia, epileptic social phobia, and epileptic panic disorder. Secondly, the bidirectional pathophysiological relationship between anxiety and epilepsy will be described. Anxiety is a trigger for seizures in some patients, and the notion of stress and arousal is essential to understand the relationship between anxiety and seizure. Moreover, seizures arising from the limbic network especially involving amygdala, which may express fear-related semiology, provide insight into the pathophysiology of AD comorbidities. Thirdly, the methods of screening for AD and anxiety symptoms will be detailed. Fourthly, the pharmacological and psychobehavioral management of anxiety symptoms and AD in PWE will be presented. Arousal-based approaches for preictal and ictal symptoms and anxiety-based approaches for postictal and interictal symptoms will be presented. Despite lack of evidence-based approaches, it is recognized that management of epilepsy is not only about controlling seizures, but also depends heavily on detecting, correctly diagnosing, and appropriately managing anxiety symptoms and AD comorbidities, in order to maximize quality of life. Improving self-control and self-efficacy is of fundamental importance in the management of PWE. Further rigorously designed studies focusing on anxiety symptoms and AD are essential to improve the overall care of PWE.

Abstract
Approximately 50% of patients diagnosed with epilepsy in childhood will need treatment in adulthood. Transition from pediatric to adult epilepsy care is challenging, and an unsuccessful transition can have detrimental effects. Researchers emphasize the importance of addressing possible barriers to transition in a multidisciplinary setting. In this paper, we describe a transition program implemented in a Level 4 epilepsy center in the Midwest. This program involves a psychosocial multidisciplinary team including a pediatric neuropsychologist, pediatric psychologist, and social worker who meet jointly with patient and his/her caregiver(s) before and after the transition. The pretransition visit involves assessment of transition readiness, screening for neurobehavioral comorbidities, provision of education regarding epilepsy care during the transition period, goal-setting, and development of a portable summary. The posttransition visit revisits goals and provides additional individualized recommendations and/or referrals for intervention as clinically indicated. The goal of this program is to facilitate a smooth transition from pediatric to adult providers to ensure optimal epilepsy care and quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Although depression is a frequent psychiatric comorbidity in people with epilepsy (PWE), its prevalence has been underestimated. Comorbid depression has negative impacts on treatment outcomes and quality of life (QOL). It also causes various problems in PWE, such as fatigue, irritability, and suicidality. This meta-analysis was performed to estimate the frequency of major depression disorder (MDD) in clinics managing PWE. METHODS We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and SCOPUS to identify studies. Hospital-based studies and original research presenting information regarding prevalence of MDD, determined using a gold standard diagnostic tool in adult PWE, were considered for inclusion. The prevalence of depression was examined by meta-analysis. In addition, subgroup analysis was performed based on the continent where the selected studies were conducted, the strictness of selection criteria, and gender. Strict selection criteria were defined as any mention of the use of exclusion criteria. RESULTS A total of 6607 studies were identified by searching the five databases outlined above. After screening and rescreening, 35 studies were included in the meta-analysis. The total number of PWE was 5434. In the test for heterogeneity of the studies, I2 was 68.014, and the Cochran Q value was 106.296 (p < 0.01). As a pooled estimate, the point prevalence of MDD in PWE was 21.9% with a 95% confidence interval (CI) of 20.8-23.0 in a fixed effects model. In subgroup analyses, continent partly explained the heterogeneity among the selected studies, but the strictness of selection criteria did not. The prevalence of MDD was higher in females than in males (26.4% vs. 16.7%, respectively) with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.805 (95% CI: 1.443-2.258; p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS The point prevalence of MDD is estimated at 21.9% among PWE in epilepsy clinics and is higher in females than in males. Based on this relatively high prevalence in PWE, measures are required to identify and resolve MDD. In addition, the female predominance of MDD among PWE indicates a need to pay greater attention to females. Such efforts may reduce the impact of depression in PWE and improve their QOL.

Abstract
The aim of this multisite randomized controlled trial was to determine whether an intervention based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) was efficacious in improving university students' psychological flexibility, mental health, and school engagement. Students were recruited in four Canadian universities and randomly assigned to an intervention (n = 72) or a wait-list control group (n = 72). Students in the intervention group took part in four 2.5-hour workshops during a 4-week period and were asked to do exercises at home (e.g., meditation, observation grids). Wait-list students received the intervention soon after the post measurements. MANCOVAs and ANCOVAs revealed that students in the intervention group showed greater psychological flexibility at postintervention than those in the control group. They also reported greater well-being and school engagement, and lower stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms. Taken together, results of this study suggest that an ACT-based intervention offers a valuable way to promote mental health and school engagement in postsecondary settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The occurrence of depression in people with epilepsy is almost twice as common as in the general population. Furthermore, depression is the first cause of lower quality of life among those patients. Which is why the main goal of this study was to assess the epidemiology of depression and its associated factors among the patients from the tertiary department of epileptology in Rennes. METHODS/RESULTS The subjects were included prospectively and consecutively at the moment of their consultation or hospitalisation in the department. Personal data about the socio-economic status and the type of epilepsy was collected. The subjects filled validated self-assessment of depression (NDDIE), anxiety (GAD-7) and quality of life (QOLIE-10). Thanks to the NDDIE, the patients were divided into: "depressed" and "not depressed"; and the two groups were compared with univariate and multivariate models. Of the 322 patients followed-up in the department between the 17th of June and the 9th of September 2016 223 of them were included in the study. According to the NDDIE, 22.6% suffered from depression; according to the GAD-7, 46.4% suffered from anxiety. In the "depressed" group, 82% were not under anti-depressant medication. In the univariate model, depression was associated with: anxiety, suicidal ideations, lower quality of life, vague nervus stimulation treatment, anticonvulsant benzodiazepine medication or psychiatric medication, and last of all bitherapy or polytherapy antiepileptic medication compared to monotherapy. In the multivariate model, depression was significantly related to anxiety (OR: 8.86 [3.00; 26.19] p=0.0001), suicidal ideas (OR: 7.43 [2.93; 18.81] p<0.0001), anticonvulsant benzodiazepine medication (OR: 3.31 [1.16; 9.49] p=0.0255), and lower quality of life (OR: 1.09 [1.02; 1.17] p=0.0087). Generalised epilepsy was a protective factor with uni and multivariate models (OR: 0.34 [0.11; 1.00] p=0.0492). CONCLUSIONS In the tertiary epileptic department of Rennes, more than 20% of patients with epilepsy suffered from depression during the inclusion period according to the NDDIE. Among those "depressed" subjects, fewer than one out of five seemed to receive proper psychiatric care. Which is why this study highlights the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation between neurologists and psychiatrists in order to aim at better management of epileptic patients as a whole.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To define the prevalence of psychiatric symptoms of anxiety and depression in patients at the time of their first seizure presentation to a neurologist. METHODS Our pilot study uses a cohort approach with multimodal data (clinical, social, structural [3T magnetic resonance imaging], and functional [electroencephalogram]). We screened 105 patients referred to the Halifax First Seizure Clinic between 2014 and 2016 and 51 controls. All participants completed two screening questionnaires: Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy and Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-Item. After applying the exclusion criteria, the study population consisted of 57 patients with unprovoked first seizure and 31 controls. The prevalence of anxiety and depression was based on cutoff scores of >15 and >14 respectively. RESULTS Unprovoked first seizure patients showed higher prevalence of depression (33%) compared with control (6%) with an odds ratio (OR) of 2.75 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.72-10.5). There was no significant difference in the prevalence of anxiety between control subjects (9.7%) and unprovoked first seizure patients (23%). Subcategory analysis conducted after diagnosis confirmation revealed significantly increased OR of depression in patients diagnosed with new-onset epilepsy (OR, 11.6; 95% CI, 2.1-64.0) and newly diagnosed epilepsy (OR, 20.0; 95% CI,2.2-181), but not first seizure only patients (OR, 2.2; 95% CI,0.28-17.6) compared with control. CONCLUSIONS Our study supports a bidirectional relationship between the first seizure and depression. Prevalence rate of depression increased with duration of undiagnosed epilepsy at the time of first clinical assessment.

Abstract
Psychiatric comorbidities are overrepresented in people suffering from epilepsy in comparison to the general population. There is a two-way link between epilepsy and psychiatric disorders. Psychiatric symptomatology is specific in epilepsy, according to the chronology of symptoms in relation to the seizure (inter, pre- or postictal). Easy to use, fast and efficient self-administered questionnaires are available to evaluate depressive (NDDI-E) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD-7) symptoms. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are not proconvulsant and can be safely used to treat depressive or anxious disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the fact that depressive disorders are the most common comorbidities among patients with epilepsy (PWE), such disorders often go unrecognized and untreated. In addition, the availability of validated screening instruments to detect depression in PWE is limited. The aim of the present study was thus to validate the Polish version of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) in adult PWE. METHODS A group of 118 outpatient PWE were invited to participate in the study. Ninety-six patients meeting the inclusion criteria completed the Polish Version of Beck Depression Inventory-I (BDI-I) and were examined by a trained psychiatrist using the Structured Clinical Interview (SICD-I) for Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders - fourth edition (Text revision) (DSM-IV-TR). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to determine the optimal threshold scores for BDI. RESULTS Receiver operating characteristic analysis showed the area under the curve to be approximately 84%. For major depressive disorder (MDD) diagnosis, the BDI demonstrated the best psychometric properties for a cut-off score to be 18, with a sensitivity of 90.5%, specificity of 70.7%, positive predictive value (PPV) of 46.3%, and negative predictive value (NPV) of 96.4%. For the 'any depressive disorder' group, the BDI optimum cut-off score was 11, with a sensitivity of 82.5%, specificity of 73.2%, PPV of 68.8%, and NPV of 85.4%. CONCLUSIONS The BDI score is a valid psychometric indicator for depressive disorders in PWE maintaining adequate sensitivity and specificity, high NPV, and acceptable PPV with an optimum cut-off score of 18 for MDD diagnosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to evaluate the contribution of validated screening tools for antiepileptic drug (AED) adverse effects, depression, and anxiety to measure the quality of life (QoL) in people with epilepsy (PWE). METHODS Patients in a tertiary epilepsy service were screened for quality of life (using QOLIE-31), major depressive disorder (MDD) (NDDI-E), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) (GAD-7), and AED effects (AEP). Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI) generalized anxiety disorder module was also performed. For AEP validation in French, the internal structural validity was analyzed. Dimensional (NDDI-E and GAD-7 scores) and categorical (MDD and GAD) analyses were performed to investigate interactions between QoL and AEP. RESULTS A total of 132 (87 females) subjects were included. The French version of the AEP demonstrated satisfactory psychometric properties (Cronbach's α 0.87). Correlations between NDDI-E, GAD-7, AEP, and QOLIE-31 scores were high, and significant for all subscales of QOLIE-31; no effect of seizure-related variables was seen. Some sex differences in QOLIE-31 subscales were found, and mean AEP score was higher in females. Age, sex, NDDI-E, GAD-7, and AEP scores accounted for 61% of variance of QOLIE-31 scores. Differential effects were seen on QOLIE-31 subscales: AEP strongly correlated with all subscales; GAD-7 scores more strongly correlated with "Seizure Worry"; NDDI-E with "Energy-Fatigue"; and both NDDI-E and GAD-7 scores strongly correlated with "Emotional Well-Being". Categorical analysis of groups with MDD alone, GAD alone, MDD+GAD, and neither MDD nor GAD showed significant differences in AEP and QOLIE-31 scores, with MDD+GAD showing the most AED effects and the poorest QoL. SIGNIFICANCE The combination of screening tools for depression (NDDI-E), anxiety (GAD-7), and AED effects (AEP) has a strong power for evaluating QoL in PWE. Coexisting MMD and GAD were associated with the poorest quality of life and the highest AEP scores.

Abstract
: The Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scale has been presented as a reliable and valid measure to assess generalized anxiety symptoms in several clinical settings and among the general population. However, some researches did not support the original one-dimensional structure of the GAD-7 tool. Our main aim was to examine the factor structure of GAD-7 comparing the one-factor model fit with a two-factor model (3 somatic nature symptoms and 4 cognitive-emotional nature symptoms) in a sample of college students. This validation study with data collected cross-sectionally included 1,031 Portuguese college students attending courses in the six schools of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal. Measures included the GAD-7, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the University Student Risk Behaviors Questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) procedures confirmed that neither factor structure was well fitting. Thus, a modified single factor model allowing the error terms of items associated with relaxing difficulties and irritability to covary was an appropriate solution. Additionally, this factor structure revealed configural and metric invariance across gender. A good convergent validity was found by correlating global anxiety and depression. However, this measure showed a weak association with consumption behaviors. Our results are relevant to clinical practice, since the comprehensive approach to GAD-7 contributes to knowing generalized anxiety symptoms trajectory and their correlates within the university setting.

Abstract
The prevalence of psychological distress, especially depressive and anxiety disorders, is higher in epilepsy than in other chronic health conditions. These comorbid conditions contribute even more than epileptic seizures themselves to impaired quality of life in patients with epilepsy (PWE). The link between these comorbidities and epilepsy appears to have a neurobiological basis, which is at least partly mediated by stress through psychological and pathophysiological pathways. The impact of stress in PWE is also particularly important because it is the most frequently reported seizure trigger. It is therefore crucial for clinicians to take stress-related conditions and psychiatric comorbidities into account when managing PWE and to propose clinical support to enhance self-control of stress. Screening tools have been specially designed and validated in PWE for depressive disorders and anxiety disorders (e.g. NDDI-E, GAD-7). Other instruments are useful for measuring stress-related variables (e.g. SRRS, PSS, SCS, MHLCS, DSR-15, ERP-R, QOLIE-31) in order to help characterize the individual "stress profile" and thus orientate patients towards the most appropriate treatment. Management includes both pharmacological treatment and nonpharmacological methods for enhancing self-management of stress (e.g. mindfulness-based therapies, yoga, cognitive-behavioral therapies, biofeedback), which may not only protect against psychiatric comorbidities but also reduce seizure frequency.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate the associations between the Neuro-Quality of Life (NQOL) Depression and Anxiety measures with an objective emotional inventory (Personality Assessment Inventory; PAI), and demonstrate the clinical utility of the NQOL as screening measures for depression and anxiety in persons with epilepsy (PWE). METHODS PWE (N=72) were concurrently administered the NQOL Depression and Anxiety measures and the PAI. Pearson product moment correlations were used to determine the relationships between the NQOL measures and the respective PAI scales (i.e., depression, anxiety). One-way ANOVAs were conducted comparing NQOL scores between patients with elevated levels of depression and anxiety (T-score≥65 on the PAI) to profiles that were within normal limits. Using sensitivity and specificity analyses, optimal cut-scores on the NQOL measures were determined. RESULTS Participants were primarily Caucasian (89%), female (60%), and ~35 years old. The NQOL Depression measure was significantly correlated with the PAI Depression total score (r=.747; p<0.001) and its subscales (p's<0.001). Similarly, the NQOL Anxiety measure was significantly correlated with the PAI Anxiety total score (r=.750; p<0.001) and its subscales (p's<0.001). Compared to profiles that were within normal limits, individuals with elevated depressive symptoms on the PAI had significantly higher NQOL Depression scores (F(1,71)=48.2, p<0.001, d=1.6). Similarly, those who endorsed elevated anxiety on the PAI had significantly higher NQOL Anxiety scores (F(1,71)=32.2, p<0.001, d=1.5). Cut-off scores of 19 on the NQOL Depression and 24 on the NQOL Anxiety measures adequately detected depression (sensitivity=0.67; specificity=0.93; PPV=0.91; NPV=0.74) and anxiety symptoms (sensitivity=0.77; specificity=0.82; PPV=0.81; NPV=0.78) in PWE. CONCLUSIONS The NQOL Depression and Anxiety measures evidenced strong associations with the PAI Depression and Anxiety scales and may be effective in detecting depressive and anxiety symptoms in PWE using the provided cut-scores.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Systematic screening is recommended for major depressive episode (MDE) with the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy NDDI-E, 6 items and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) with the GAD 7 items in patients with epilepsy (PWE). Shorter versions of the NDDI-E and the GAD-7 could facilitate increased screening by busy clinicians and be more accessible to patients with mild cognitive and/or language impairments. METHODS The effectiveness of ultra-short versions of the NDDI-E (2 items) and the GAD-7 (the GAD-2, 2 items, and the GAD-SI with a single item) in comparison with the original versions were statistically tested using ROC analysis. RESULTS ROC analysis of the NDDIE-2 showed an AUC of 0.926 (p<0.001), a sensitivity of 81.82% and a specificity of 89.16%, without significant difference with the NDDI-E (z=1.582, p=0.11). ROC analysis of the GAD-SI showed an AUC of 0.872 (p<0.001), a sensitivity of 83.67% and a specificity of 82.29%, without significant difference with the GAD-7 (z=1.281, p=0.2). The GAD-2 showed poorer psychometric properties. LIMITATIONS The limitation is the use of data from previously reported subjects in a single language version, the NDDIE-2 that lacks detection of dysphoric symptoms in comparison with the NDDIE-6 and the GAD-SI that exhibited a more than 10% lower sensitivity than the GAD-7. CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the potential utility of the NDDIE-2 and the GAD-SI as ultra-short screening tools for MDE and GAD respectively in PWE. Further studies in a larger population, including multi-lingual versions, could be a valuable next step. However, the brevity and simplicity of this tool could be an advantage in PWE who present cognitive difficulties, especially attentional or language deficits.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Depressive disorders are the most common comorbidities among patients with epilepsy (PWE). The availability of standardized clinical instruments for PWE is limited with scarce validation studies available so far. The aim of the study was to validate the Polish Version of the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD) in adult PWE. METHODS A group of 96 outpatient PWE were examined by a trained psychiatrist using the Structured Clinical Interview (SCID-I) for DSM-IV-TR and the 17-item Polish Version of HRSD (HRSD-17). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to determine the optimal threshold scores. RESULTS The ROC analyses showed areas under the curve approximately 0.9. For diagnoses of MDD, HRSD-17 demonstrated the best psychometric properties for a cutoff score of 11 with sensitivity of 100%, specificity of 89.3%, positive predictive value of 72.4%, and negative predictive value of 100%. CONCLUSIONS The 17-item Polish Version of HRSD proved to be reliable and valid in the epilepsy setting with a cutoff score of 11 points.
