Abstract
Hybrid materials with superior structural and functional properties can be obtained by incorporating nanofillers into polymer matrices. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) nanoparticles have attracted much attention recently due to their nanometer size, the ease of which these particles can be incorporated into polymeric materials and the unique capability to reinforce polymers. We review here the state of POSS-containing polymer nanocomposites. We discuss the influence of the incorporation of POSS into polymer matrices via chemical cross-linking or physical blending on the structure of nanocomposites, as affected by surface functional groups, and the POSS concentration.

Abstract
Novel phthalimide and o-sulfobenzimide-functionalized silsesquioxanes were successfully synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reactions from octakis(3-chloropropyl)octasilsesquioxane. Surprisingly, the formation of deca- and dodecasilsesquioxanes cages was discovered during substitution with phthalimide, but only octasilsesquioxane maintained a cage in the o-sulfobenzimide substitution reaction. Moreover, we report the electronic effect of nitrogen nucleophiles to promote cage-rearrangement of inorganic silsesquioxane core for the first time. Structures of products were confirmed by (1)H, (13)C, and (29)Si NMR spectroscopy, ESI-MS analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-cyanate ester (CE) nanocomposites have been developed by the incorporation of octafunctional maleimide POSS (OMPS) into the bisphenol-A based CE network through in situ method by thermal curing with the use of diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) as coupling agent. The formation of nanocomposite was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared analysis. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy images confirm the morphology of CE/OMPS nanocomposites. The thermal and morphological properties were studied by varying different weight percentages (1, 3, 5 and 10%) of OMPS. The 5 wt.% OMPS-incorporated nanocomposite possesses higher values of glass transition temperature than those of nanocomposites filled with a lower percentages of OMPS. Further thermal stability of nanocomposites increased with increase in percentage composition of OMPS.

Abstract
This paper reports the synthesis of new reinforcing agents based on sodium montmorillonite modified with some polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes. The modified montmorillonite was extensively characterized using different techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. The obtained reinforcing agents were used for the synthesis of epoxy-based nanocomposites. The nanocomposites were studied using thermal analysis, dynamic mechanical analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis to conclude that the type of radicals on the POSS cage may influence the properties of the final nanocomposites.

Abstract
In this study, the intercalated hydrotalcite (HT)/epoxy (EP) nanocomposites containing red phosphorous (RP) (HT-RP/EP) were prepared by in-situ polymerization. Firstly, low-molecular-weight polyamide 6 (PA6)/HT nanocomposite was prepared in the presence of organ-hydrotalcite with alanine as an initiator at 150°C. And then, PA6/HT composite and a certain amount of RP incorporated into epoxy resin in the presence of curing agent (polyamide 650) and HT-RP/EP nanocomposite was prepared successfully. Finally, the micro-structure and flame resistance were characterized by scan electron microscope (SEM) and vertical burning method, respectively. The results showed that HT was dispersed in the epoxy matrix evenly. HT-RP/EP nanocomposites showed significant flame resistance. When the content of both of HT and RP was 5%, the flame resistance achieved FV-0 level.
