Abstract
The hybrid molecules composed of fulleropyrrolidine and poly(urethane amide) dendron of the third generation have been synthesized, and their self-assembling in THF/water mixtures has been studied. By TEM, AFM, and SAXS methods it was established that molecules form ribbonlike aggregates with the ordered layers of fullerene derivatives situated inside of the ribbons. Microscale length and high ratio width/thickness were detected for the ribbons. The ability of amides and urethanes to initiate a coupling of dendron-fragments by means of hydrogen bonding has been considered as mainly responsible for anisotropic interaction of hybrid molecules and for the ribbonlike aggregates formation in THF/water mixtures.

Abstract
We demonstrate by computer experiments that the spontaneous formation of two-dimensional regularly patterned molecular networks containing voids may be an entirely entropy-driven process. On the basis of a simple model of core-(soft) shell half-disk-shaped particles, we show that, even without the mediation of any attractive interparticle forces, such particles self-organize to stable and macroscopically ordered patterns with regularly distributed voids. The morphology of these supramolecular porous motifs depends critically on the size of the core relative to the coronal halo. The reverse engineering analysis of these precise two-dimensional supramolecular porous templates suggests molecular-shape complementarity and polyphilicity as key design parameters for the bottom-up engineering of such functional substrates.

Abstract
The synthesis and detailed (physico)-chemical ((1)H/(13)C NMR, FTIR, UV-vis and elemental analysis) characterizations of new star-shaped compounds based on tris(2-aminoethyl)amine, including in their structure an azomethine function (HCN-) and alkoxysemiperfluorinated (-O-(CH(2))(3)-(CF(2))(7)-CF(3)), octadecyloxy aliphatic (-O-(CH(2))(17)-CH(3)) chain or two phenyl rings (-Ph-Ph-) as a terminal group, were reported. The mesomorphic behavior was investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM) and additionally by FTIR(T) and UV-vis(T) spectroscopy. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) technique was used to probe the structural properties of the azomethines. Moreover, the azomethine A1 was electro-spun to prepare fibers with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and investigated by DSC and POM. Additionally, a film of the A1 with PMMA was cast from chloroform and the thermal properties of the film were compared with the thermal properties of the fiber and powder. It was showed that terminal groups dramatically influence the thermal and optical properties of the star-shaped azomethines.

Abstract
A new poly(amidoamine) dendron having 1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-ene (DBN) at the focal point was synthesized. Interestingly, formation of zwitterionic fullerodendrons (λmax = 930 nm for C60 and 795 nm for C70) were observed by Vis-NIR spectroscopy upon the reaction of C60 or C70 with the DBN-focal dendron. In particular, the C70 anion was effectively stabilized by the site isolation effect of the dendritic wedge. The half-life of fullerodendron 12b having C70 anion at the focal point reaches 7,345 min, which is 20 times longer than that of complex between C60 and pristine DBN. Furthermore, in order to confirm the structure of the zwitterionic complex, fullerodendron 12a was reprecipitated from benzonitrile/1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, and was observed using IR spectroscopy and APPI-MS.

Abstract
Recent advances on the organization and characterization of [Mn12] single molecule magnets (SMMs) on a surface or in 3D are reviewed. By using nonconventional techniques such as X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), it is shown that [Mn12]-based SMMs deposited on a surface lose their SMM behavior, even though the molecules seem to be structurally undamaged. A new approach is reported to get high-density information-storage devices, based on the 3D assembling of SMMs in a liquid crystalline phase. The 3D nanostructure exhibits the anisotropic character of the SMMs, thus opening the way to address micrometric volumes by two photon absorption using the pump-probe technique. We present recent developments such as µ-SQUID, magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE), or magneto-optical circular dichroism (MOCD), which enable the characterization of SMM nanostructures with exceptional sensitivity. Further, the spin-polarized version of the STM under ultrahigh vacuum is shown to be the key tool for addressing not only single molecule magnets, but also magnetic nano-objects.

Abstract
A series of phthalocyanine-C60 dyads 2a–d was synthesized. Key steps in their synthesis are preparation of the low symmetry phthalocyanine intermediate by the statistical condensation of two phthalonitriles, and the final esterification of the fullerene derivative bearing a free COOH group. Structural characterization of the molecules in solution was performed by NMR spectroscopy, UV–vis spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Preliminary studies suggest formation of liquid crystalline (LC) mesophases for some of the prepared dyads. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of LC phthalocyanine-C60 dyads.

Abstract
The chemoselective [3+2] cycloaddition of an azide on to an alkyne, catalyzed by Cu(1), has become known as "click-chemistry". The ease with which this reaction can be carried out and the formation of pure product without the need for further purification, offer a tremendous potential in developing monodisperse 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole heterocycle based macromolecules of a diverse nature. The versatility of this approach in designing dendrimers or functionalizing them at the periphery with desired molecules has rekindled hopes in developing nanomaterials, at scales that can accelerate their entry into industrial usage.

Abstract
The effects of functional group position on the phase behavior of discotic mesogens was examined for a series of dibenzophenazine derivatives bearing a carboxylic acid, methyl carboxylate, or nitro group. In all cases, changing the position of the group from the "top" to the "side" of the aromatic core led to dramatic differences in the phase behavior, both in terms of the stability of the liquid crystalline phases as well as the types of mesophases formed. For the non-hydrogen bonding ester and nitro derivatives, moving the substituent to the side of the core led to a lowering of the clearing temperatures or loss of liquid crystallinity. Carboxylic acid derivatives exhibit broad mesophases irrespective of the position of the acid group, but mesogens bearing this group on the side of the core exclusively form Col(h) phases, whereas those with an acid group on the top of the core exhibit more varied mesomorphism, with the formation of Col(h), Col(r), and nematic phases. Contrary to expectations, the presence of a carboxylic acid group on the side of the core does not appear to lead to the formation of dimeric structures in the liquid crystalline phase, although the columnar structures appear to be stabilized by intermolecular hydrogen bonding along the columns. These derivatives also form pi-stacked dimers in solution; the structure of these dimers are consistent with the proposed structure of the columnar phases.

Herein we describe the construction of hexadecameric self-assembled dendrimers (SADs) using a series of dendronized 8-(m-acetylphenyl)-2′-deoxyguanosine (mAG) subunits. The azido-substituted mAG subunits were covalently linked to alkynyl polyester dendrons using a copper-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction. Discrete SADs are formed with high fidelity and thermal stability even with the increased steric hindrance offered by the dendrons.
