Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to study the prognostic value of clinicopathological data, inflammation and nutritional indicators, and to design an effective prognostic nomogram and heat map to predict cancer-specific survival (CSS) and disease-free survival (DFS) of stage II/III GC patients who underwent curative gastrectomy with adjuvant chemotherapy. Patients and Methods We retrospectively analyzed the data of 611 patients with stage II/III GC after curative gastrectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy from 3 GC disease centers. Patients were divided into a training cohort (n = 503) and an external validation cohort (n = 108). Nomograms were established based on independent predictors identified by Cox regression analysis in the training cohort. The consistency index (C-index) and the calibration curve were used to evaluate the discriminative ability and accuracy of the nomogram. Heat maps were constructed with the prognostic factors and the corresponding survival probability. We further divided the patients into low-risk and high-risk groups based on the risk score of the nomogram. Results Through univariate and multivariate survival analysis, the independent risk factors common to CSS and DFS were identified. Then these predictors were incorporated into the nomograms, and the established nomograms used to predict CSS and DFS had high discriminative power in the training cohort. Meanwhile, the calibration curves of CSS and DFS probability also showed good agreement between the prediction based on the nomograms and the actual observation results. The above independent predictors were applied to establish heat maps. Compared with low-risk patients, the high-risk patients calculated according to the nomogram had a shorter survival time and a worse prognosis. Conclusion We established a nomogram and heat map, which could be used to assess the survival rate of stage II/III GC patients who underwent curative gastrectomy with adjuvant chemotherapy. These tools had high prognostic prediction accuracy and provided inspiration for clinical decision-making.

Abstract
Circadian clocks participate in the coordination of various metabolic and biological activities to maintain homeostasis. Disturbances in the circadian rhythm and cancers are closely related. Circadian clock genes are differentially expressed in many tumors, and accelerate the development and progression of tumors. In addition, tumor tissues exert varying biological activities compared to normal tissues due to resetting of altered rhythms. Thus, chronotherapeutics used for cancer treatment should exploit the timing of circadian rhythms to achieve higher efficacy and mild toxicity. Due to interpatient differences in circadian functions, our findings advocate an individualized precision approach to chronotherapy. Herein, we review the specific association between circadian clocks and cancers. In addition, we focus on chronotherapies in cancers and personalized biomarkers for the development of precision chronotherapy. The understanding of circadian clocks in cancer will provide a rationale for more effective clinical treatment of tumors.

Abstract
Primary vascular tumours of the kidney are rare and may pose diagnostic difficulties because of their similar clinical, morphological, and immunohistochemical features. This article summarizes the clinical and pathological features of primary renal angiosarcoma and anastomosing haemangioma of the kidney including epidemiology, genetics, and prognosis. Renal anastomosing haemangiomas are benign neoplasms characterized by anastomosing capillary-sized vascular channels. These tumours are rare, with about 75 cases reported in the literature. Most anastomosing haemangiomas are found incidentally on ultrasound, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging. Common symptoms include abdominal pain, haematuria, and abdominal mass. Renal anastomosing haemangiomas are characterized by recurrent mutations in GNAQ and GNA14 genes. The prognosis of anastomosing haemangioma is excellent. Primary renal angiosarcomas are malignant tumours showing endothelial differentiation. To date, 76 cases have been described in the literature. Primary renal angiosarcomas are frequently symptomatic. The clinical features of renal angiosarcomas are similar to those of renal anastomosing haemangiomas, including abdominal pain, haematuria, and abdominal mass. Angiogenesis-related genes and vascular-specific receptor tyrosine kinases such as KDR, TIE1, SNRK, TEK, and FLT1 are upregulated in angiosarcomas. Primary renal angiosarcomas are highly aggressive neoplasms with a poor prognosis despite surgical treatment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or targeted therapy.

Abstract
Long eyelashes have been popularized and many commercially available products exist to achieve eyelash growth as a desired cosmetic effect. Eyelash trichomegaly may be induced by medications, procedures, or be related to medical conditions; however, the exact mechanisms that govern eyelash growth are not well elucidated. This study aims to identify and summarize aetiologies associated with eyelash trichomegaly. We report a systematic review of 148 clinical trials, prospective and retrospective studies, and case reports describing all evidence-based potential aetiologies of eyelash trichomegaly obtained from the Medline/PubMed and Cochrane Library through January 2021. Inclusion criteria were defined as (i) human studies involving congenital and acquired diseases in which eyelash trichomegaly is a characteristic or (ii) assessment of trichomegaly as an adverse or desired effect of a medication or procedure. Exclusion criteria included: animal studies, articles not available in English, outcomes unrelated to eyelash trichomegaly, and secondary review articles. Pharmacologic agents associated with eyelash trichomegaly included prostaglandin analogues (15-keto fluprostenol isopropyl ester, bimatoprost, latanoprost, and travoprost), epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (cetuximab, erlotinib, and panitumumab), interferon-alpha, and calcineurin inhibitors (tacrolimus and cyclosporine). Surgical procedures of the eyelid, as well as allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, HIV, ichthyosis vulgaris (IV), uveitis, and vernal keratoconjunctivitis were also associated with increased eyelash growth. Congenital disorders associated with lengthened eyelashes included Cantú syndrome, CHOPS syndrome, Coffin-Siris syndrome, congenital heart disease, Cornelia de Lange syndrome, Costello syndrome, familial trichomegaly, Floating Harbor syndrome, Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome, Kabuki-Makeup syndrome, KBG syndrome, Oliver-McFarlane syndrome, Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, and Smith-Magenis syndrome. While the most common cause of eyelash trichomegaly is topical bimatoprost use, better understanding of pathways implicated in eyelash trichomegaly may lead to the discovery of additional medications to stimulate eyelash growth and create avenues for future therapeutic interventions.

Abstract
The question of how successful we are in predicting pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (panNET) with poor prognosis has not been fully answered yet. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of clinicopathological features on prognosis and to determine their validity in prediction of prognosis and whether a better prognostic classification can be made. Fifty-six patients who underwent pancreatic resection for pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor were included. The associations between clinicopathological parameters and prognosis were evaluated statistically. Efficiencies of different thresholds for tumor size, mitotic count, and Ki67 proliferation index for prognosis prediction were compared. Vascular invasion was statistically associated with high tumor grade, advanced pT stage, and mortality rate. The presence of non-functional tumor, lymphatic invasion, and > 10 cm tumor size were significantly related to shorter overall survival. Advanced pT stage (pT3-4), > 5 cm tumor size, and high tumor grade (grades 2-3) were significantly associated with shorter disease-free survival. The mortality rate showed the strongest statistical significance with mitotic count when grouped as 1: < 2, 2: 2-10, and 3: > 10 mitosis/ 2 mm2. The 10% threshold value for Ki67 index was more successful in predicting adverse prognosis. Among the morphologic variants, the ductulo-insular variant was the most promising to have positive prognostic value in our series, although no statistical significance was detected. In conclusion, threshold values of 5 cm and 10 cm for tumor size, 10% for Ki67 proliferation index, and 10/2 mm2 for mitotic count and vascular and lymphatic invasion assessed separately are potential prognostic candidates for better stratification of panNETs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to investigate the advantages of robotic versus laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy as these remains unclear. METHODS We retrospectively recruited eligible patients with rectal cancer undergoing robotic or laparoscopic surgery following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. We compared the surgical outcomes between patients undergoing either robotic surgery or laparoscopic surgery was based on the propensity-score matching analysis. RESULTS A total of 171 patients were recruited, including 76 who underwent robotic surgery and 95 who underwent laparoscopic surgery. There were no significant differences in clinical and pathological characteristics between the groups after propensity-score matching (56 matched pairs). Longer operation times (324.964 ± 83.435 vs. 246.232 ± 111.324 min, p < 0.001) and more blood loss (187.679 ± 176.615 vs. 98.214 ± 107.011, p < 0.001) were observed in the robotic group. The major complication rates were similar between the treatment groups after propensity matching (p = 0.086). There were no significant differences in disease-free survival rates (p = 0.205) and overall survival rates (p = 0.837) between the groups. CONCLUSIONS Robotic surgery is associated with similar technical safety and oncologic efficacy compared to laparoscopic surgery for the treatment of rectal cancer after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy; it is an acceptable option for patients requiring minimally invasive surgery. Nevertheless, the longer operation times and greater blood loss seen in the present study are a stark reminder that the convenience and surgical precision, on which the marketing of robotic surgery is rooted, are yet to be proven and require further investigation.

Abstract
Background: There are paradoxical results regarding whether carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) is a prognostic biomarker for patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). The objective of this study was to evaluate prognostic significance of CAIX in nonmetastatic ccRCC patients of different stages. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective study on 1263 patients with nonmetastatic ccRCC from January 2005 to June 2018. Patients were stratified into eight subgroups (pT1a, pT1b, pT2a, pT2b, pT3a, pT3b, pT3c, and pT4) according to the 2016 TNM classification system. Immunohistochemical staining of membranous CAIX was quantified. Cancer-specific survival (CSS) rates in patients with high (>85%) and low (<85%) CAIX expressions were compared by Kaplan-Meier curves with log-rank test. Results: There were 220 tumors (17.42%) with low CAIX expression and 1043 tumors (82.58%) with high CAIX expression. The cumulative CSS rates were statistically significant between all patients with low and high CAIX expression (p-value <0.001). In pT2a, pT2b, and pT3a subgroups, the patients with low CAIX expression exhibited markedly decreased cumulative CSS rates compared to patients with high CAIX expression (p-value <0.05). Univariable and multivariable Cox regression analysis showed that CAIX expression was an independent predictor of prognosis in patients with pT2a, pT2b, and pT3a ccRCC (p-value <0.05), rather than in all nonmetastatic patients. Conclusion: CAIX expression is of independent prognostic value for ccRCC patients in pT2a, pT2b, and pT3a stages. CAIX expression combined with tumor stage would further improve risk stratification of nonmetastatic ccRCC patients and provide directions for therapies.

Abstract
Incidence of brain metastases has increased in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) as their survival has improved. CD3 T-cells and, lately, DGMate (DiGital tuMor pArameTErs) score, have been identified as prognostic factors in locally advanced CRC. Until now, there is no data concerning the prognostic value of these markers in patients with CRC-derived brain metastases. All consecutive patients with CRC-derived brain metastases diagnosed between 2000 and 2017 were retrospectively included. Staining for CD3, CD8, PD-1, PD-L1 and DGMate analyses were performed using tissue micro-array from primary tumors and, if available, brain metastases. All in all, 83 patients were included with 80 primary tumor samples and 37 brain metastases samples available. CD3 and CD8 T-cell infiltration was higher in primary tumors compared to brain metastases. We observed a significant higher DGMate score in rectal tumors compared to colon tumors (p=0.03). We also noted a trend of higher CD3 T-cell infiltration in primary tumors when brain metastases were both supra and subtentorial compared to brain metastases that were only subtentorial or supratentorial (p=0.36 and p=0.03, respectively). No correlation was found between CD3 or CD8 infiltration or DGMate score in primary tumors or brain metastases and overall survival (OS) in the overall population. In patients with rectal tumors, a high DGMate score in brain metastases was associated with longer OS (13.4 ± 6.1 months versus 6.1 ± 1.4 months, p=0.02). High CD3 T-cell infiltration in brain metastases was associated with lower OS in patients with supratentorial brain metastases (9.8 ± 3.3 months versus 16.7 ± 5.9 months, p=0.03). PD-L1 overexpression was rare, both in primary tumors and brain metastases, but PD-L1 positive primary tumors were associated with worse OS (p=0.01). In contrast to breast and lung cancer derived brain metastases, CD3 and CD8 infiltration and DGMate score are not major prognostic factors in patients with CRC-derived brain metastases.

Abstract
The intensive research on the synthesis and characterization of gold (Au) nanostructures has been extensively documented over the last decades. These investigations allow the researchers to understand the relationships between the intrinsic properties of Au nanostructures such as particle size, shape, morphology, and composition to synthesize the Au nano/hybrid nanostructures with novel physicochemical properties. By tuning the properties above, these nanostructures are extensively employed to detect and remove trace amounts of toxic pollutants from the environment. This review attempts to document the achievements and current progress in Au-based nanostructures, general synthetic and fabrication strategies and their utilization in electrochemical sensing and environmental remediation applications. Additionally, the applications of Au nanostructures (e.g., as adsorbents, sensing platforms, catalysts, and electrodes) and advancements in the field of electrochemical sensing of different target analytes (e.g., proteins, nucleic acids, heavy metals, small molecules, and antigens) are summarized. The literature survey concludes the existing methods for the detection of toxic contaminants at various concentration levels. Finally, the existing challenges and future research directions on electrochemical sensing and degradation of toxic contaminants using Au nanostructures are defined.

Abstract
Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) is a successful targeted radionuclide therapy in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). However, complete responses remain elusive. Combined treatments anticipate synergistic effects and thus better responses by combining ionizing radiation with other anti-tumor treatments. Furthermore, multimodal therapies often have a balanced toxicity profile. To date, few studies have evaluated the effect of combination therapies with PRRT, some of them phase I/II trials. This review will focus on several clinically tested, tailored approaches to improving the effects of PRRT. The aim is to help clinicians in the treatment planning of NETs to choose the most effective and safe treatment for each patient in the sense of personalized medicine. Current promising combination partners of PRRT are somatostatin analogues (SSAs), chemotherapy, molecular targeted treatment, liver radioembolization, and dual radionuclide PRRT (Lutetium-177-PRRT combined with Yttrium-90-PRRT).

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to analyze clinicopathological, survival, prognostic factors, as well as the timing of brain metastases (BM) in colorectal cancer (CRC) using data from a Chinese center. Patients and Methods Data of 65 consecutive CRC patients with BM were collected from a single institution in China. The time from primary tumor surgery to the occurrence of BM was calculated. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to evaluate cumulative survival of patients. Factors associated with prognosis of overall survival (OS) were explored using Cox's proportional hazard regression models. Results The median time interval from CRC surgery to the diagnosis of BM was 24 months. After diagnosis of BM, median OS values for patients were 11 months. Extracranial metastases occurred in 45 cases (69.2%) when BM was diagnosed, and 58.5% of these patients with lung metastases Time of BMs (P=0.018), presence of extracranial metastases (P=0.033), treatment (P=0.003), CA199 (P=0.034), CA125 (P<0.001), CA242 (P=0.018), and CA211 (P=0.012) were associated with OS of patients through univariate analysis. Multivariate analysis using a Cox regression model showed that only treatment was an independent predictor for OS (conservative treatment; HR=1.861, 95% CI=1.077-3.441; P=0.048). Conclusion Surgical treatment of metastatic lesions may be an alternative choice for CRC patients with BM. Identifying the timing of brain metastases can help to detect this disease early, leading to a better survival outcome.

Abstract
Chitosan is a biopolymer derived from chitin. It is a non-toxic, biocompatible, bioactive, and biodegradable polymer. Due to its properties, chitosan has found applications in several and different fields such as agriculture, food industry, medicine, paper fabrication, textile industry, and water treatment. In addition to these properties, chitosan has a good film-forming ability which allows it to be widely used for the development of sensors and biosensors. This review is focused on the use of chitosan for the formulation of electrochemical chemosensors. It also aims to provide an overview of the advantages of using chitosan as an immobilization platform for biomolecules by highlighting its applications in electrochemical biosensors. Finally, applications of chitosan-based electrochemical chemosensors and biosensors in food safety are illustrated.

Abstract
Quantification of asymptomatic infections is fundamental for effective public health responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Discrepancies regarding the extent of asymptomaticity have arisen from inconsistent terminology as well as conflation of index and secondary cases which biases toward lower asymptomaticity. We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and World Health Organization Global Research Database on COVID-19 between January 1, 2020 and April 2, 2021 to identify studies that reported silent infections at the time of testing, whether presymptomatic or asymptomatic. Index cases were removed to minimize representational bias that would result in overestimation of symptomaticity. By analyzing over 350 studies, we estimate that the percentage of infections that never developed clinical symptoms, and thus were truly asymptomatic, was 35.1% (95% CI: 30.7 to 39.9%). At the time of testing, 42.8% (95% prediction interval: 5.2 to 91.1%) of cases exhibited no symptoms, a group comprising both asymptomatic and presymptomatic infections. Asymptomaticity was significantly lower among the elderly, at 19.7% (95% CI: 12.7 to 29.4%) compared with children at 46.7% (95% CI: 32.0 to 62.0%). We also found that cases with comorbidities had significantly lower asymptomaticity compared to cases with no underlying medical conditions. Without proactive policies to detect asymptomatic infections, such as rapid contact tracing, prolonged efforts for pandemic control may be needed even in the presence of vaccination.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the evidence concerning the quality of surgical resection in laparoscopic (LapTME), robotic (RobTME) and transanal (TaTME) total mesorectal excision for mid-/low rectal cancer. METHODS A systematic literature search of the PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases was performed. A Bayesian network meta-analysis was utilized to compare surgical resection involved in these 3 surgical techniques by using ADDIS software. Rates of positive circumferential resection margins (CRMs) were the primary endpoint. RESULTS A total of 34 articles, 2 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and 32 non-RCTs, were included in this meta-analysis. Pooled data showed CRM positivity in 114 of 1763 LapTME procedures (6.5%), 54 of 1051 RobTME procedures (5.1%) and 60 of 1276 TaTME procedures (4.7%). There was no statistically significant difference among these 3 surgical approaches in terms of CRM involvement rates and all other surgical resection quality outcomes. The incomplete mesorectal excision rates were 9.6% (69/720) in the LapTME group, 1.9% (11/584) in the RobTME group and 5.6% (45/797) in the TaTME group. Pooled network analysis observed a higher but not statistically significant risk of incomplete mesorectum when comparing both LapTME with RobTME (OR = 1.99; 95% CI = 0.48-11.17) and LapTME with TaTME (OR = 1.90; 95% CI = 0.99-5.25). By comparison, RobTME was most likely to be ranked the best or second best in terms of CRM involvement, complete mesorectal excision, rate of distal resection margin (DRM) involvement and length of DRMs. In addition, RobTME achieved a greater mean tumor distance to the CRM than TaTME. It is worth noting that TaTME was most likely to be ranked the worst in terms of CRM involvement for intersphincteric resection of low rectal cancer. CONCLUSION Overall, RobTME was most likely to be ranked the best in terms of the quality of surgical resection for the treatment of mid-/low rectal cancer. TaTME should be performed with caution in the treatment of low rectal cancer.

Despite major developments in lung cancer investigations and the progress of innovative oncology treatments in recent decades, lung cancer continues to be the predominant cause of cancer-related mortality globally, with over a million deaths each year. This highlights the urgent need to develop a deeper understanding of the current state of cancer care. At the environmental and cellular levels, circadian rhythms are closely associated with living organisms. In humans, the suprachiasmatic nucleus is the principal circadian pacemaker. Circadian gene feedback loops regulate the clock, connecting peripheral tissue metabolism, cell proliferation, DNA repair, and cell death to energy homeostasis, physical activity, and neurohormonal regulation at the organismal level. Endogenous circadian homeostasis has been frequently disturbed in modern civilizations, resulting in a higher risk of many disorders, including lung cancer. The theory that both somatic and systemic disturbances of circadian rhythms are related to a higher risk of lung cancer development and poor prognosis is addressed in this study. The chronotherapy principles hold much more promise for enhancing the lung cancer care options currently available. Developing a better understanding of the molecular interactions that control the physiological equilibrium between both the circadian rhythm and the cycle of cell division could significantly influence the development of novel treatments for lung cancer and other diseases.

Abstract
Background: Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary bone sarcoma in childhood. High-dose methotrexate, doxorubicine, cisplatin, and/or ifosfamide combinations are used as standard treatment in chemotherapy and could cause serious toxicity. Another alternative chemotherapy protocol is consisting of epirubicin, ifosfamide, and cisplatin (ECI), which we use in our center. The aim of this study was to evaluate the patients with OS who were treated with ECI protocol, retrospectively. Methods: Forty-three patients with OS diagnosed at our center between December 1995 and September 2017 were evaluated retrospectively. Results: The mean follow-up period was 31 months (5-145 months). Recurrence was detected in 15 of 43 patients. When the factors affecting relapse are examined, recurrence was higher in patients who were older than 10 years at the time of diagnosis, upper extremity involvement, osteoblastic, and chondroblastic subgroups, but there was no statistically significant difference. Five-year and 10-year overall survival rates were 67.4% and 58.9%, and event-free survival rates were 54% and 47.3%, respectively. While 5-year overall survival rate was 86.7% in nonrecurrent cases, this rate was 40.9% in recurrent cases and this difference was statistically significant (p = 0.023). Just two patients died because of the toxicity. Conclusion: The prognosis of OS is still poor in relapse cases, so the choice of chemotherapy for neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapy is vital. When the risk of toxicity is also considered, the first step of ECI protocol is seen as a preferable treatment option because the survival rates are similar to the literature.

Abstract
In the background of chronic liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma develops via a complex, multistep process called hepatocarcinogenesis. This article reviews the causes contributing to the process. Emphasis is made on the imaging manifestations of the pathologic changes seen at many stages of hepatocarcinogenesis, from regenerative nodules to dysplastic nodules and then to hepatocellular carcinoma.

Abstract
Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP-NENs) are rare epithelial neoplasms. Grading is based on mitotic activity or the percentage of Ki67-positive cells in a hot spot. Routine methods have poor intraobserver and interobserver consistency, and objective measurements are lacking. This study aimed to evaluate digital image analysis (DIA) as an objective assessment of proliferation markers in GEP-NENs. A consecutive cohort of patients with automated DIA measurement of Ki67 (DIA Ki67) and phosphohistone H3 (DIA PHH3) on immunohistochemical slides was analyzed using Visiopharm image analysis software (Hoersholm, Denmark). The results were compared with the Ki67 index from routine pathology reports (pathology Ki67). The study included 159 patients (57% males). The median pathology Ki67 was 2.0% and DIA Ki67 was 4.1%. The interclass correlation coefficient of the DIA Ki67 compared with the pathology Ki67 showed an excellent agreement of 0.96 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.94-0.96]. The observed kappa value was 0.86 (95% CI: 0.81-0.91) when comparing grades based on the same methods. PHH3 was measured in 145 (91.2%) cases. The observed kappa value was 0.74. (95% CI: 0.65-0.83) when comparing grade based on the DIA PHH3 and the pathology Ki67. The DIA Ki67 shows excellent agreement with the pathology Ki67. The DIA PHH3 measurements were more varied and cannot replace other methods for grading GEP-NENs.

Abstract
Background and Aims: The aim of this study was to characterize circulating tumor cells (CTCs) during neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in early and locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) patients. Using ultrasound, tumor volume measurement was compared with the presence and the molecular nature of CTCs over multiple time intervals corresponding to treatment periods. Methods: A total of 20 patients diagnosed with breast cancer (BC) of different histotypes were monitored during the NACT period and in the follow-up period (~5 years). Peripheral blood for CTCs (n = 115) was taken prior to NACT, after two to three chemotherapy cycles, after the completion of NACT (before surgery) and at some time points during adjuvant therapy. CTCs were enriched using a size-based filtration method (MetaCell®) capturing viable cells, which enabled vital fluorescence microscopy. A set of tumor-associated (TA) genes and chemoresistance-associated (CA) genes was analyzed by qPCR in the enriched CTC fractions. Results: The analysis of tumor volume reduction after administration of anthracyclines (AC) and taxanes (TAX) during NACT showed that AC therapy was responsive in 60% (12/20) of tumors, whereas TAX therapy was responsive in 30% (6/20; n.s.). After NACT, CTCs were still present in 70.5% (12/17) of patients (responders versus non-responders, 61.5% versus 100%; not significant). In triple-negative BC (TNBC) patients (n = 8), tumor volume reduction was observed in 75% cases. CTCs were significantly reduced in 42.9% of all HER2-negative BC patients. In HER2+ tumors, CTC reduction was reported in 16.6% only. Relapses were also more prevalent in the HER2-positive patient group (28.5 versus 66.6%). During NACT, the presence of CTCs (three tests for each patient) identified patients with relapses and indicated significantly shorter progression-free survival (PFS) rates (p = 0.03). Differentiation between progressive disease and non-progressive disease was obtained when the occurrence of excessive expression for CA genes in CTCs was compared (p = 0.024). Absence of tumor volume reduction was also significantly indicative for progressive disease (p = 0.0224). Disseminated CTCs in HER2-negative tumors expressed HER2 in 29% of samples collected during the overall follow-up period (16/55), and in 32% of samples during the follow-up of NACT (10/31). The change accounted for 78.5% of HER2-negative patients (11/14) in total, and 63.6% of the conversion cases occurred during NACT (7/11). For the remaining four patients (36.3%), conversion to HER2+ CTCs occurred later during adjuvant therapy. We believe there is the possibility of preventing further progression by identifying less responsive tumors during NACT using CTC monitoring, which could also be used effectively during adjuvant therapy.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to evaluate partial excision of the levator ani muscle (PELM) enables preservation of anal sphincter function although levator ani muscle (LAM) was invaded. METHODS Functional outcomes and oncologic outcomes of 23 consecutive patients who underwent robotic PELM for low rectal cancer at the anorectal ring level invading or abutting the ipsilateral LAM are analysed. RESULTS Secured resection margins were achieved, especially for the circumferential resection margin. During a median follow-up of 44 months, the 3-year local recurrence rate was 14.4%. Among patients who underwent diverting ileostomy closure, mean Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Bowel Function Instrument and Wexner scores were 68.3 ± 11.9 and 10.7 ± 5.3, respectively, at 1 year after closure. CONCLUSION PELM is a sphincter-preserving alternative to abdominoperineal resection (APR) or extralevator APR for low rectal cancer invading the ipsilateral LAM at the level of the anorectal ring.

Abstract
Adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) is the standard care for patients with resected advanced gastric cancer, but its survival benefits remain undetermined in patients undergoing D2 lymph node dissection (D2 dissection). We evaluated safety and efficacy of adjuvant CCRT with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) versus chemotherapy alone in 110 gastric cancer patients with D2 dissection treated in Taiwan between January 2009 and January 2013. All the 71 patients receiving adjuvant CCRT were treated with daily infusional 5-FU and radiotherapy. Adjuvant CCRT was associated with higher risks of major hematologic (56.3% vs. 23.8%, p = 0.002) and gastrointestinal (46.9% vs. 14.3%, p = 0.027) toxicities and death (12.5% vs. 0.0%, p = 0.041) in patients above 70 years old, but this was not the case in those ≤70 years of age. Univariate Cox proportional regressions identified adjuvant CCRT as a factor for better overall survival (OS) (hazard ratio [HR]=0.52; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.27-0.99) and disease-free survival (DFS) (HR=0.46, 95% CI: 0.24-0.88), but it was not a significant factor for OS or DFS after adjusting for other factors in the multivariate analysis. However, in stratified analyses by age, we found adjuvant CCRT was an independent prognostic factor for better OS (HR=0.07; 95% CI: 0.01-0.38) in patients ≤70 years old, but not in those above 70 years of age. Therefore, it was concluded that age may to be a modifier of the effects of adjuvant CCRT.

Abstract
Circadian clock is an impressive timing system responsible for the control of several metabolic, physiological and behavioural processes. Nowadays, the connection between the circadian clock and cancer occurrence and development is consensual. Therefore, the inclusion of circadian timing into cancer therapy may potentially offer a more effective and less toxic approach. This way, chronotherapy has been shown to improve cancer treatment efficacy. Despite this relevant finding, its clinical application is poorly exploited. The conception of novel anticancer drug delivery systems and the combination of chronobiology with nanotechnology may provide a powerful tool to optimize cancer therapy, instigating the incorporation of the circadian timing into clinical practice towards a more personalized drug delivery. This review focuses on the recent advances in the field of cancer chronobiology, on the link between cancer and the disruption of circadian rhythms and on the promising targeted drug nanodelivery approaches aiming the clinical application of cancer chronotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, researchers are interested in the discovery of active compounds from traditional remedies and natural sources, as they reveal higher therapeutic efficacies and improved toxicological profiles. Among the various traditional treatments that have been widely studied and explored for their potential therapeutic benefits, kefir, a fermented beverage, demonstrates a broad spectrum of pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammation, and healing activities. These health-promoting properties of kefir vary among the kefir cultures found at the different part of the world as different media and culture conditions are used for kefir maintenance and fermentation. METHODS This study investigated the microbial composition and readily found bioactive compounds in water kefir fermented in Malaysia using 16S rRNA microbiome and UHPLC sequencing approaches. The toxicity effects of the kefir water administration in BALB/c mice were analysed based on the mice survival, body weight index, biochemistry profile, and histopathological changes. The antioxidant activities were evaluated using SOD, FRAP, and NO assays. RESULTS The 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing revealed the most abundant species found in the water kefir was Lactobacillus hilgardii followed by Lactobacillus harbinensis, Acetobacter lovaniensis, Lactobacillus satsumensis, Acetobacter tropicalis, Lactobacillus zeae, and Oenococcus oeni. The UHPLC screening showed flavonoid and phenolic acid derivatives as the most important bioactive compounds present in kefir water which has been responsible for its antioxidant activities. Subchronic toxicity study showed no toxicological signs, behavioural changes, or adverse effects by administrating 10 mL/kg/day and 2.5 mL/kg/day kefir water to the mice. Antioxidants assays demonstrated enhanced SOD and FRAP activities and reduced NO level, especially in the brain and kidney samples. CONCLUSIONS This study will help to intensify the knowledge on the water kefir microbial composition, available phytochemicals and its toxicological and antioxidant effects on BALB/c mice since there are very limited studies on the water kefir grain fermented in Malaysia.

Abstract
Introduction In locally advanced rectal cancer, longer delay to surgery after neoadjuvant radiotherapy increases the likelihood of histopathological tumour response. Chronomodulated radiotherapy in rectal cancer has recently been reported as a factor increasing tumour response to neoadjuvant treatment in patients having earlier surgery, with patients receiving a larger proportion of afternoon treatments showing improved response. This paper aims to replicate this work by exploring the impact of these two temporal factors, independently and in combination, on histopathological tumour response in rectal cancer patients. Methods A retrospective review of all patients with rectal adenocarcinoma who received long course (≥24 fractions) neoadjuvant radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy at a tertiary referral centre was conducted. Delay to surgery and radiotherapy treatment time were correlated to clinicopathologic characteristics with a particular focus on tumour regression grade. A review of the literature and meta-analysis were also conducted to ascertain the impact of time to surgery from preoperative radiotherapy on tumour regression. Results From a cohort of 367 patients, 197 patients met the inclusion criteria. Complete pathologic response (AJCC regression grade 0) was seen in 46 (23%) patients with a further 44 patients (22%) having at most small groups of residual cells (AJCC regression grade 1). Median time to surgery was 63 days, and no statistically significant difference was seen in tumour regression between patients having early or late surgery. There was a non-significant trend towards a larger proportion of morning treatments in patients with grade 0 or 1 regression (p = 0.077). There was no difference in tumour regression when composite groups of the two temporal variables were analysed. Visualisation of data from 39 reviewed papers (describing 27379 patients) demonstrated a plateau of response to neoadjuvant radiotherapy after approximately 60 days, and a meta-analysis found improved complete pathologic response in patients having later surgery. Conclusions There was no observed benefit of chronomodulated radiotherapy in our cohort of rectal cancer patients. Review of the literature and meta-analysis confirms the benefit of delayed surgery, with a plateau in complete response rates at approximately 60-days between completion of radiotherapy and surgery. In our cohort, time to surgery for the majority of our patients lay along this plateau and this may be a more dominant factor in determining response to neoadjuvant therapy, obscuring any effects of chronomodulation on tumour response. We would recommend surgery be performed between 8 and 11 weeks after completion of neoadjuvant radiotherapy in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer.

Abstract
Nutritional interventions can be valuable for the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis. This study aimed to investigate the effects of kefir fortified with omega-3 and vitamin C on the bone and uterus parameters of ovariectomized rats. Seventy-seven female Sprague-Dawley rats were ovariectomized or sham-operated. The ovariectomized rats were assigned to six groups and received 1 ml/day of distilled water (OVX group), milk, kefir, kefir fortified with omega-3 (kefir+ω3), kefir fortified with vitamin C (kefir+vit-C) or kefir fortified with omega-3 and vitamin C (kefir+ω3+vit-C) for 12 weeks. The sham group also received 1ml/day of distilled water. Subsequently, bone mineral content (BMC) and bone mineral density (BMD) of various bones were assessed. Femurs and uteri were harvested for bone ash analysis and histopathological examinations, respectively. Sera were analyzed for carboxy-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type 1 collagen, procollagen type 1 amino-terminal propeptide, calcium, phosphorous, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and total antioxidant capacity levels. Ovariectomy resulted in significant reduction in bone density (P<0.05). Kefir+ω3+vit-C significantly improved BMC of lumbar spine (0.699±0.027 g compared with 0.580±0.018 in the OVX group), and kefir, kefir+vit-C and kefir+ω3+vit-C significantly increased BMD of tibia (0.118±0.003 g/cm2, 0.119±0.001 and 0.120±0.004 compared with 0.102±0.005 in the OVX group). Moreover, ovariectomy markedly elevated TNF-α level, which was significantly reversed by kefir+ω3+vit-C. Significant atrophy of the uterus was observed following ovariectomy, although the uterus parameters did not change by any of the interventions. In conclusion, kefir fortified with omega-3 and vitamin C may have protective effects against bone loss through suppressing inflammation.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the effects of cardiovascular-induced motion on conventional DWI of the pancreas and to evaluate motion-robust DWI methods in a motion phantom and healthy volunteers. METHODS 3T DWI was acquired using standard monopolar and motion-compensated gradient waveforms, including in an anatomically accurate pancreas phantom with controllable compressive motion and healthy volunteers (n = 8, 10). In volunteers, highly controlled single-slice DWI using breath-holding and cardiac gating and whole-pancreas respiratory-triggered DWI were acquired. For each acquisition, the ADC variability across volunteers, as well as ADC differences across parts of the pancreas were evaluated. RESULTS In motion phantom scans, conventional DWI led to biased ADC, whereas motion-compensated waveforms produced consistent ADC. In the breath-held, cardiac-triggered study, conventional DWI led to heterogeneous DW signals and highly variable ADC across the pancreas, whereas motion-compensated DWI avoided these artifacts. In the respiratory-triggered study, conventional DWI produced heterogeneous ADC across the pancreas (head: 1756 ± 173 × 10-6 mm2 /s; body: 1530 ± 338 × 10-6 mm2 /s; tail: 1388 ± 267 × 10-6 mm2 /s), with ADCs in the head significantly higher than in the tail (P < .05). Motion-compensated ADC had lower variability across volunteers (head: 1277 ± 102 × 10-6 mm2 /s; body: 1204 ± 169 × 10-6 mm2 /s; tail: 1235 ± 178 × 10-6 mm2 /s), with no significant difference (P ≥ .19) across the pancreas. CONCLUSION Cardiovascular motion introduces artifacts and ADC bias in pancreas DWI, which are addressed by motion-robust DWI.

Abstract
There is a continuing need for tools and devices which can simplify, quicken and reduce the cost of analyses of food safety and quality. Chemical sensors and biosensors are increasingly being developed for this purpose, reaping from the opportunities provided by nanotechnology. Due to the distinct electrical and optical properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), this material plays a vital role in (bio)sensor development. This review is an analysis of chemical sensors and biosensors based on silver nanoparticles with application in food and beverage matrices. It consists of academic research published from 2015 to 2020. The paper is structured to separately explore the designs of two major (bio)sensor classes: electrochemical (including voltammetric and impedimetric sensors) and optical sensors (including colourimetric and luminescent), with special focus on the type of silver nanomaterial and its role in the sensor system. The review indicates that diverse nanosensors have been developed, capable of detecting analytes such as pesticides, mycotoxins, fertilisers, microorganisms, heavy metals, and various additives with exceptional analytical performance. Current trends in the design of such sensors are highlighted and challenges which need to be overcome in the future are discussed.

Abstract
Background:
Osteosarcoma is the most common type of primary bone tumor in children
and adolescents, which is associated with rapid progression and poor prognosis. Multimodal
therapy is the most common approach utilized for osteosarcoma management, such as the application
of chemotherapy in combination with surgery or radiation therapy. Cisplatin is one of the predominantly
used chemotherapeutic agents for osteosarcoma. Optimally, it is employed in combination
with other chemotherapeutic drugs along with surgery or radiation therapy. Despite the availability
of numerous treatment approaches, the patient survival rate has not definitively improved
over the past three decades.
Methods:
We have summarized all findings regarding the combination of cisplatin with other chemotherapeutic
agents as well as with phytochemical compounds.
Results:
A combination of cisplatin with a phytochemical compound synergistically enhances the
killing effect of cisplatin on osteosarcoma cells with fewer side effects compared to combination
with other chemotherapeutic agents.
Conclusion:
Conclusively, a combination of cisplatin with selected chemotherapeutic drugs has
been shown to be effective. However, the unchanged survival rate has posed an urge to search for a
new combination regimen. As a collaborative effort to substantiate the therapeutic efficacy, the
combination with phytochemical compounds shows a promising response both in vitro as well as
in the preclinical study.

Abstract
Kefir is a fermented beverage with renowned probiotics that coexist in symbiotic association with other microorganisms in kefir grains. This beverage consumption is associated with a wide array of nutraceutical benefits, including anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-cancer, anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, and anti-hypercholesterolemic effects. Moreover, kefir can be adapted into different substrates which allow the production of new functional beverages to provide product diversification. Being safe and inexpensive, there is an immense global interest in kefir’s nutritional potential. Due to their promising benefits, kefir and kefir-like products have a great prospect for commercialization. This manuscript reviews the therapeutic aspects of kefir to date, and potential applications of kefir products in the health and food industries, along with the limitations. The literature reviewed here demonstrates that there is a growing demand for kefir as a functional food owing to a number of health-promoting properties.

Abstract
CONTEXT Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer deaths. Recently, much attention has been given to the microbiome and probiotics as preventive and therapeutic approaches to CRC and the mechanisms involved. OBJECTIVES To interpret the findings of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of probiotics relative to patients with CRC and to outline challenges of and future directions for using probiotics in the management and prevention of CRC. DATA SOURCES Web of Science, PubMed, ProQuest, Wile, y and Scopus databases were searched systematically from January 17-20, 2020, in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. STUDY SELECTION Primacy RCTs that reported the effects of administration to patients with CRC of a probiotic vs a placebo were eligible to be included. DATA EXTRACTION The studies were screened and selected independently by 2 authors on the basis of prespecified inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data extraction and risk-of-bias assessment were also performed independently by 2 authors. RESULTS A total of 23 RCTs were eligible for inclusion. Probiotics supplementation in patients with CRC improved their quality of life, enhanced gut microbiota diversity, reduced postoperative infection complications, and inhibited pro-inflammatory cytokine production. The use of certain probiotics in patients with CRC also reduced the side effects of chemotherapy, improved the outcomes of surgery, shortened hospital stays, and decreased the risk of death. Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus were the common probiotics used across all studies. CONCLUSION Probiotics have beneficial effects in patients with CRC regardless of the stage of cancer. There is an opportunity for probiotics to be used in mainstream health care as a therapy in the fight against CRC, especially in early stages; however, larger clinical trialsof selected or a cocktail of probiotics are needed to confirm the efficacy, dosage, and interactions with chemotherapeutics agents. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Laparoscopic rectal resection with total mesorectal excision is a technically challenging procedure, and there are limitations in conventional laparoscopy. A surgical robotic system may help to overcome some of the limitations. The aim of our study was to compare long-term oncological outcomes of robotic and laparoscopic sphincter-saving total mesorectal excision in male patients with mid-low rectal cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was conducted as a retrospective review of a prospectively maintained database. One-hundred-three robotic and 84 laparoscopic sphincter-saving total mesorectal excisions were performed by a single surgeon between January 2011 and January 2020. Patient characteristics, perioperative recovery, postoperative complications, pathology results, and oncological outcomes were compared between the two groups. RESULTS The patients' characteristics did not differ significantly between the two groups. Median operating time was longer in the robotic than in the laparoscopic group (180 minutes versus 140 minutes, p=0.033). Macroscopic grading of the specimen in the robotic group was complete in 96 (93.20%), near complete in four (3.88%) and incomplete in three (2.91%) patients. In the laparoscopic group, grading was complete in 37 (44.04%), near complete in 40 (47.61%) and incomplete in seven (8.33%) patients (p=0.03). The median length of follow up was 48 (9-102) months in the robotic, and 75.6 (11-113) months in the laparoscopic group. Overall, five-year survival was 87% in the robotic and 85.3% in the laparoscopic groups. Local recurrence rates were 3.8% and 7.14%, respectively, in the robotic and laparoscopic groups (p<0.05). CONCLUSION Sphincter-saving robotic total mesorectal excision is a safe and feasible tool, which provides good mesorectal integrity and better local control in male patients with mid-low rectal cancer.

Abstract
Background This retrospective analysis was undertaken to evaluate the efficiency of SIRT with Y-90 microspheres and determined prognostic factors affecting patients with unresectable HCC. Methods A total of 97 patients diagnosed with unresectable HCC who underwent SIRT with Y-90 microspheres. Patient survival was assessed using the Kaplan–Meier method, and prognostic factors affecting survival were assessed using log-rank tests and Cox proportional hazards regression. Results Among the 97 patients (90 males, mean age 60.4 ± 12.3 years) who underwent SIRT, the median clinical follow-up was 16.4 (1.8–62) months. The median overall survival (OS) was 23.9 ± 2.4 months. Tumor response according to the Modified RECIST in patients followed up beyond 6 months included a complete response (CR) to treatment in 12 patients (18.8%), partial response (PR) in 23 (35.8%), stable disease (SD) in 8 (12.5%), and progressive disease (PD) in 21 (32.8%). Factors associated with longer OS included age > 65 years, BCLC stage B, tumor size < 5 cm, tumor burden < 25%, and tumor response (CR/PR). In multivariate analysis, unilobar disease and objective tumor response (CR/PR) were predictors of longer OS. Conclusion SIRT was an effective treatment for unresectable HCC. Unilobar disease before SIRT and tumor response (CR/PR) were positive prognostic factors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Brain metastases (BMs) from colorectal cancer (CRC) are rare (≈2%) but are increasing with the improvement of CRC prognosis. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the prognostic factors of BM from CRC. MATERIALS AND METHODS This multicenter retrospective study included all consecutive patients with BM from CRC diagnosed between 2000 and 2017. THEORY/CALCULATION Prognostic factors of OS were evaluated in univariate (log-rank test) and multivariate analyses (Cox regression model). These prognostic factors could help the management of patients with BM from CRC. RESULTS A total of 358 patients were included with a median age of 65.5 years. Primary tumors were mostly located in the rectum (42.4%) or left colon (37.2%) and frequently KRAS-mutated (56.9%). The median time from metastatic CRC diagnosis to BM diagnosis was 18.5 ± 2.5 months. BMs were predominantly single (56.9%) and only supratentorial (54.4%). BM resection was performed in 33.0% of the cases and 73.2% of patients had brain radiotherapy alone or after surgery. Median OS was 5.1 ± 0.3 months. In multivariate analysis, age under 65 years, ECOG performance status 0-1, single BM and less than 3 chemotherapy lines before BM diagnosis were associated with better OS. Prognostic scores, i.e. recursive partitioning analysis (RPA), Graded Prognostic Assessment (GPA), Disease Specific-Graded Prognostic Assessment (DS-GPA), Gastro-Intestinal-Graded Prognostic Assessment (GI-GPA) and the nomogram were statistically significantly associated with OS but the most relevant prognosis criteria seemed the ECOG performance status 0-1. CONCLUSIONS ECOG performance status, number of BM and number of chemotherapy lines are the most relevant factors in the management of patients with BM from CRC.

Abstract
Antioxidation is very important in medicine and food. The current evaluation technologies often have many shortcomings. In this work, an improved electrochemical sensing platform for the evaluation of antioxidant activity has been proposed. A hydrogel was prepared based on graphene oxide, zinc ions, and chitosan. Zinc ions play the role of crosslinking agents in hydrogels. The structure of chitosan can be destroyed by injecting hydrogen peroxide into the hydrogel, and the free zinc ions can diffuse to the surface of the electrode to participate in the electrochemical reaction. This electrochemical sensor can evaluate the antioxidant activity by comparing the current difference of zinc reduction before and after adding the antioxidant. With the help of graphene oxide, this hydrogel can greatly enhance the sensing effect. We conducted tests on 10 real samples. This proposed electrochemical platform has been successfully applied for evaluating the antioxidant activity of Scutellaria baicalensis, and the results were compared to those obtained from the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl-based traditional analysis technique.

Abstract
The proliferation of targeted anticancer agents over the last two decades has revolutionized cancer treatment and improved survival in many previously refractory malignancies. However, many agents are associated with characteristic ophthalmic adverse effects. It is important that ophthalmologists recognize and maintain a high index of suspicion for these side effects in patients on targeted therapy. Most ophthalmic adverse effects can be treated with specific ocular therapy without discontinuation of cancer treatment, although it is important to be aware of the life-threatening and vision-threatening circumstances that would require therapy cessation in conjunction with the patient's oncologist. This review aims to summarize the ophthalmic adverse effects of targeted and hormonal anticancer agents and briefly describe their management.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cancer patients are increasingly incorporating medical marijuana into the management of treatment-related side effects. Currently however, data is limited regarding the risks and benefits of therapeutic cannabis for cancer patients. We sought to characterize radiation oncologists' practices and opinions regarding therapeutic cannabis via a nationwide survey. MATERIALS AND METHODS An anonymous survey was distributed via email to 873 radiation oncologists in the American Society for Radiation Oncology member database. Radiation oncologists were asked their opinions and practices regarding the use of therapeutic cannabis for their patients. Bivariate analyses of potential predictors for responses were conducted using standard statistical techniques. RESULTS One hundred seven radiation oncologists completed the survey. According to the survey, 36% of respondents would recommend therapeutic cannabis to their patients to mitigate treatment toxicity. Physicians practicing in states where medical marijuana is legal were more likely to recommend it compared to physicians working in states that have not legalized medical marijuana (OR = 3.79, 1.19-12.1, p = 0.01). Seventy-one percent of respondents reported therapeutic cannabis as being effective at least some of the time for managing treatment-related toxicities. Fifty-eight percent of physicians reported lacking sufficient knowledge to advise patients regarding therapeutic cannabis, while 86% of respondents were interested in learning more about therapeutic cannabis for cancer patients. CONCLUSIONS Although a majority of radiation oncologists believe there are benefits to therapeutic cannabis, many are hesitant to recommend for or against its use. Radiation oncologists appear to be interested in learning more about how therapeutic cannabis may play a role in their patients' care.

Abstract
Background RCTs are considered the standard in surgical research, whereas case-matched studies and propensity score matching studies are conducted as an alternative option. Both study designs have been used to investigate the potential superiority of robotic surgery over laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer. However, no conclusion has been reached regarding whether there are differences in findings according to study design. This study aimed to examine similarities and differences in findings relating to robotic surgery for rectal cancer by study design. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane CENTRAL to identify RCTs, case-matched studies, and cohort studies that compared robotic versus laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer. Primary outcomes were incidence of postoperative overall complications, incidence of anastomotic leakage, and postoperative mortality. Meta-analyses were performed for each study design using a random-effects model. Results Fifty-nine articles were identified and reviewed. No differences were observed in incidence of anastomotic leakage, mortality, rate of positive circumferential resection margins, conversion rate, and duration of operation by study design. With respect to the incidence of postoperative overall complications and duration of hospital stay, the superiority of robotic surgery was most evident in cohort studies (risk ratio (RR) 0.83, 95 per cent c.i. 0.74 to 0.92, P < 0.001; mean difference (MD) –1.11 (95 per cent c.i. –1.86 to –0.36) days, P = 0.004; respectively), and least evident in RCTs (RR 1.12, 0.91 to 1.38, P = 0.27; MD –0.28 (–1.44 to 0.88) days, P = 0.64; respectively). Conclusion Results of case-matched studies were often similar to those of RCTs in terms of outcomes of robotic surgery for rectal cancer. However, case-matched studies occasionally overestimated the effects of interventions compared with RCTs.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate and compare the diagnostic performance of percentage changes in apparent diffusion coefficient (∆ADC%) and slow diffusion coefficient (∆D%) for assessing pathological complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant therapy in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). METHODS A systematic search in PubMed, EMBASE, the Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library was performed to retrieve related original studies. For each parameter (∆ADC% and ∆D%), we pooled the sensitivity, specificity and calculated the area under summary receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) values. Meta-regression and subgroup analyses were performed to explore heterogeneity among the studies on ∆ADC%. RESULTS 15 original studies (804 patients with 805 lesions, 15 studies on ∆ADC%, 4 of the studies both on ∆ADC% and ∆D%) were included. pCR was observed in 213 lesions (26.46%). For the assessment of pCR, the pooled sensitivity, specificity and AUROC of ∆ADC% were 0.83 (95% confidence intervals [CI] 0.76, 0.89), 0.74 (95% CI 0.66, 0.81), 0.87 (95% CI 0.83, 0.89), and ∆D% were 0.70 (95% CI 0.52, 0.84), 0.81 (95% CI 0.65, 0.90), 0.81 (95% CI 0.77, 0.84), respectively. In the four studies on the both metrics, ∆ADC% yielded an equivalent diagnostic performance (AUROC 0.80 [95% CI 0.76, 0.83]) to ∆D%, but lower than in the studies (n = 11) only on ∆ADC% (AUROC 0.88 [95% CI 0.85, 0.91]). Meta-regression and subgroup analyses showed no significant factors affecting heterogeneity. CONCLUSIONS Our meta-analysis confirms that ∆ADC% could reliably evaluate pCR in patients with LARC after neoadjuvant therapy. ∆D% may not be superior to ∆ADC%, which deserves further investigation.

Abstract
Hemp seed oil has good sun protection, repair, anti-allergy and anti-aging effects, and is a high quality raw material for the production of skincare products. However, the influence of surfactants and co-surfactants on the emulsification of hemp seed oil in aqueous solution has been rarely investigated. In this investigation, the surfactants and co-surfactants which were suitable for hemp seed oil emulsion were optimized, and the factors which influence the particle size and the stability of the emulsion were studied. Moreover, the application of hemp seed emulsion in different cosmetics was also further investigated. It was found that sorbitan monooleate/polysorbate-80 and glyceryl stearate were the most effective surfactant and co-surfactant in the emulsification of hemp seed oil. After three months the hemp seed oil emulsion had no layered separation and remained homogeneous at -48C, 258C and 408C. The water-resistant sunscreens and the hemp seed oil sunscreens were homogeneous pastes, had a soft texture and were stable at higher temperatures. No microorganisms were detected in these cosmetic creams. Therefore, hemp seed oil is suitable for sunscreen cosmetic materials.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common malignancy worldwide. Most patients with metastatic CRC develop liver or lung metastases, while a minority suffer from brain metastases. There is little information available regarding the presentation, treatment, and overall survival of brain metastases (BM) from CRC. This systematic review and meta-analysis includes data collected from three major databases (PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase) based on the key words "brain", "metastas*", "tumor", "colorectal", "cancer", and "malignancy". In total, 1318 articles were identified in the search and 86 studies matched the inclusion criteria. The incidence of BM varied between 0.1% and 11.5%. Most patients developed metastases at other sites prior to developing BM. Lung metastases and KRAS mutations were described as risk factors for additional BM. Patients with BM suffered from various symptoms, but up to 96.8% of BM patients were asymptomatic at the time of BM diagnosis. Median survival time ranged from 2 to 9.6 months, and overall survival (OS) increased up to 41.1 months in patients on a multimodal therapy regimen. Several factors including age, blood levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), multiple metastases sites, number of brain lesions, and presence of the KRAS mutation were predictors of OS. For BM diagnosis, MRI was considered to be state of the art. Treatment consisted of a combination of surgery, radiation, or systemic treatment.

Abstract
Antioxidants are a group of healthy substances which are useful to human health because of their antihistaminic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory activity and inhibitory effect on the formation and the actions of reactive oxygen species. Generally, they are phenolic complexes present in plant-derived foods. Due to the valuable nutritional role of these mixtures, analysis and determining their amount in food is of particular importance. In recent years, many attempts have been made to supply uncomplicated, rapid, economical and user-friendly analytical approaches for the on-site detection and antioxidant capacity (AOC) determination of food antioxidants. In this regards, sensors and biosensors are regarded as favorable tools for antioxidant analysis because of their special features like high sensitivity, rapid detection time, ease of use, and ease of miniaturization. In this review, current five-year progresses in different types of optical and electrochemical sensors/biosensors for the analysis of antioxidants in foods are discussed and evaluated well. Moreover, advantages, limitations, and the potential for practical applications of each type of sensors/biosensors have been discussed. This review aims to prove how sensors/biosensors represent reliable alternatives to conventional methods for antioxidant analysis.

Abstract
Lipid droplets are cellular organelles used for lipid storage with a hydrophobic core of neutral lipids enclosed by a phospholipid monolayer. Besides presenting as giant single organelles in fat tissue, lipid droplets are also widely present as a multitude of small structures in hepatocytes, where they play key roles in health and disease of the liver. In addition to lipid storage, lipid droplets are also directly involved in lipid metabolism, membrane biosynthesis, cell signaling, inflammation, pathogen-host interaction and cancer development. In addition, they interact with other cellular organelles to regulate cellular biology. It is fair to say that the exact functions of lipid droplets in cellular physiology remain largely obscure. Thus prompted, here we aim to analyze the corpus of contemporary biomedical literature to create a framework as to how the role of lipid droplets in hepatocyte physiology and pathophysiology should be understood. The resulting framework should help understanding the interaction of lipid droplets with other organelles in important liver diseases, including fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis and liver cancer and direct further research directions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Rectal cancer is often surgically treated, but it is still associated with morbidity rates. Minimally invasive techniques are increasingly being used to reduce complications, and the use of such techniques can be found in the literature. This study aims to report our experience in a reference oncology center. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was performed on a prospective database of patients who underwent robotic surgery for rectal cancer using the single-docking technique from September 2014 to April 2018. Clinical and surgical variables, as well as morbidity and mortality rates, were analyzed. RESULTS One hundred and two patients underwent robotic surgery. Intraoperative complications occurred in six patients (4.9%), and postoperative complications in 24 patients (23.5%), of which anastomotic fistula represented 3.9%. The conversion rate was 1.96%. Two cases (1.9%) faced death within 30 days. The median length of hospitalization was 3 days. The median number of lymph nodes dissected was 15. Clinical and surgical data were correlated with postoperative complications, and no statistically significant differences were found. CONCLUSION Robotic surgery is a safe and feasible approach to manage rectal cancer. The method presents satisfactory results with regard to the rate of operative complications, conversion rate, oncologic outcomes, and length of hospitalization.

Abstract
Adhesions constitute a major problem in abdominal-pelvic and thoracic surgery with significant impact in the postoperative quality of life and healthcare services utilization. Adhesiogenesis is the result of increased fibrin formation, impaired fibrinolysis, angiogenesis, and fibrosis. Despite the recent advancements, the ideal anti-adhesive agent remains to be determined. To this end, we performed a comprehensive literature search in PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus databases to identify studies investigating the antiadhesive role of anti-VEGF agents in peritoneal, pleural, and pericardial experimental adhesion models. Fifteen studies were eligible for inclusion with a total population of 602 animals (334 rats, 180 rabbits, and 88 mice). The majority of included studies (11/15) used bevacizumab, while three studies used other anti-VEGF antibodies and one study used an anti-VEGFR-antibody. A rat model was used in nine studies, while rabbit (n = 3) or mouse (n = 3) models were used less frequently. Eleven studies used peritoneal models, three studies used pleural models, and one study used a pericardial model. The scales (n = 12) and interval (Range: 1-42 days) used for the evaluation of adhesions varied between the studies. All studies demonstrated a significant decrease in adhesion scores between the anti-VEGF and control groups up to 42 days postprocedure. VEGF blockade resulted in decreased fibrosis in four out of five studies that used peritoneal models, while the effect on pleural models depended on the pleurodesis agent and was significant between 7 and 28 days. The effect of anti-VEGF agents on anastomosis integrity depends on the dose and the model that is used (inconclusive results).Current data support the anti-adhesive role of Anti-VEGF agents in all three serosal surfaces up to 6 weeks postprocedure. Further studies are needed to confirm the anti-adhesive role of anti-VEGF agents in pleural and pericardial adhesion experimental models and investigate any effect on anastomosis integrity in peritoneal models.
