Abstract
A direct conversion of C(sp(3))-H bonds to C(sp(3))-F bonds has been developed. In this process, a catalytic N-oxyl radical generated from N,N-dihydroxypyromellitimide abstracts hydrogen from the C(sp(3))-H bond and Selectfluor acts to trap the resulting carbon radical to form the C(sp(3))-F bond. This simple metal-free protocol enables the chemoselective introduction of a fluorine atom into various aromatic and aliphatic compounds and serves as a powerful tool for the efficient synthesis of fluorinated molecules.

Abstract
The site selectivities and stereoselectivities of C-H oxidations of substituted cyclohexanes and trans-decalins by dimethyldioxirane (DMDO) were investigated computationally with quantum mechanical density functional theory (DFT). The multiconfiguration CASPT2 method was employed on model systems to establish the preferred mechanism and transition state geometry. The reaction pathway involving a rebound step is established to account for the retention of stereochemistry. The oxidation of sclareolide with dioxirane reagents is reported, including the oxidation by the in situ generated tBu-TFDO, a new dioxirane that better discriminates between C-H bonds on the basis of steric effects. The release of 1,3-diaxial strain in the transition state contributes to the site selectivity and enhanced equatorial C-H bond reactivity for tertiary C-H bonds, a result of the lowering of distortion energy. In addition to this strain release factor, steric and inductive effects contribute to the rates of C-H oxidation by dioxiranes.

Abstract
The alkylation of the ortho C-H bonds in benzamides and acrylamides containing an 8-aminoquinoline moiety as a bidentate directing group with unactivated alkyl halides using nickel complexes as catalysts is described. The reaction shows high functional group compatibility. In reactions of meta-substituted aromatic amides, the reaction proceeds in a highly selective manner at the less hindered C-H bond.

Abstract
Acid treatment of densely substituted 2-silyl-1,2-dihydropyridines provides a new and convenient entry to reactive azomethine ylides that can (1) be protonated and reduced with high stereoselectivity to give piperidines, (2) participate in [3 + 2] dipolar cycloaddition to give tropanes, and (3) undergo a Nazarov-like 6-π electrocyclization that upon reduction give 2-azabicyclo[3.1.0] systems.

Abstract
Piperidines are prevalent in natural products and pharmaceutical agents and are important synthetic targets for drug discovery and development. We report on a methodology that provides highly substituted piperidine derivatives with regiochemistry selectively tunable by varying the strength of acid used in the reaction. Readily available starting materials are first converted to dihydropyridines via a cascade reaction initiated by rhodium-catalyzed carbon-hydrogen bond activation. Subsequent divergent regio- and diastereoselective protonation of the dihydropyridines under either kinetic or thermodynamic control provides two distinct iminium ion intermediates that then undergo highly diastereoselective nucleophilic additions. X-ray structural characterization of both the kinetically and thermodynamically favored iminium ions along with density functional theory calculations provide a theoretical underpinning for the high selectivities achieved for the reaction sequences.

Abstract
Cross dehydrogenative coupling reactions occurring via base-promoted homolytic aromatic substitutions (BHASs) are reported. Fluorenones and xanthones are readily prepared via CDC starting with readily available ortho-formyl biphenyls and ortho-formyl biphenylethers, respectively. The commercially available and cheap tBuOOH is used as an oxidant. Initiation of the radical chain reaction is best achieved with small amounts of FeCp(2) (0.1 or 1 mol %).

Abstract
Pd(II)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H activation of phenylacetic acids followed by an intramolecular C-O bond formation afforded chiral benzofuranones. This reaction provides the first example of enantioselecctive C-H functionalizations through Pd(II)/Pd(IV) redox catalysis.

Abstract
Ring in the new: a new annulation for the efficient synthesis of substituted furans and pyrroles is reported. The Rh(III) -catalyzed reaction of O-methyl α,β-unsaturated oximes with aldehydes and N-tosyl imines affords secondary alcohol and amine intermediates, respectively. Cyclization and aromatization occurs under the reaction conditions to provide access to biologically relevant furans and pyrroles in good yields. Cp*=C(5)Me(5), DCE=1,2-dichloroethane, THF=tetrahydrofuran.

Abstract
C3-arylated indazole and pyrazoles are privileged structural motifs in agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. C-3 C-H arylation of (1H) indazole and pyrazole has been a significant challenge due to the poor reactivity of the C-3 position. Herein, we report a practical Pd(II)/Phen catalyst and conditions for direct C-3 arylation of indazole and pyrazole with ArI or ArBr without using Ag additives as halide scavengers. The use of toluene, chlorobenzene, trifluoromethylbenzene and mesitylene as the solvent was found to be crucial for the selectivity and reactivity. We further demonstrate the robustness of this protocol through the first total synthesis of Nigellidine hydrobromide as well as expedient preparation of heterocycles structurally related to pesticides and drug molecules.
