Abstract
The transition-metal-catalyzed amination of aryl halides has been the most powerful method for the formation of aryl amines over the past decades. Phenols are regarded as ideal alternatives to aryl halides as coupling partners in cross-couplings. An efficient palladium-catalyzed formal cross-coupling of phenols with various amines and anilines has now been developed. A variety of substituted phenols were compatible with the standard reaction conditions. Secondary and tertiary aryl amines could thus be synthesized in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract
Current state-of-the-art protocols for the coupling of unreactive amines (e.g., electron-poor anilines) with deactivated oxidative-addition partners (e.g., electron-rich and/or hindered aryl chlorides) involve strong heating (usually >100°C) and/or tert-butoxide base, and even then not all couplings are successful. The aggressive base tert-butoxide reacts with and in many instances destroys the typical functional groups that are necessary for the function of most organic molecules, such as carbonyl groups, esters, nitriles, amides, alcohols, and amines. The new catalyst described herein, Pd-PEPPSI-IPentCl-o-picoline, is able to aminate profoundly deactivated coupling partners when using only carbonate base at room temperature.

Abstract
Modified reaction conditions that facilitate Pd-catalyzed alkene carboamination reactions of electron-deficient nitrogen nucleophiles are reported. Pent-4-enylamine derivatives bearing N-tosyl or N-trifluoroacetyl groups are coupled with aryl triflates to afford substituted pyrrolidines in good yield. These reactions proceed via a mechanism involving anti-aminopalladation of the alkene, which differs from previously reported analogous reactions of N-aryl and N-boc pentenylamines. The application of these conditions to a formal synthesis of (±)-aphanorphine is also described.

Abstract
A clean, mild and sustainable method for the functionalization of pyridines and their analogues is reported. A zinc-based Lewis acid is used to activate pyridine and its analogues towards nucleophilic aromatic substitution, conjugate addition, and cyclization reactions by binding to the nitrogen on the pyridine ring and activating the pyridine ring core towards further functionalization.

Abstract
Starting from 2-arylbenzimidazoles and aryl halides, an efficient palladium-based catalytic method for the synthesis of benzimidazole-fused phenanthridines has been developed. This reaction sequence comprises intermolecular C-H arylation and intramolecular aerobic oxidative C-H amination, involving the rupture of two C-H bonds, one C-X bond, and one N-H bond in one pot. The Pd(II)-Pd(IV)-Pd(II) and Pd(II)-Pd(0)-Pd(II) catalytic cycles work together under the reported conditions to generate phenanthridines with diverse substituents.

Abstract
A method was developed for the direct dehydrogenative construction of CN bonds between unprotected phenols and a series of cyclic anilines without resorting to any kind of metal activation of either substrate and without the use of halides. The resulting process relies on the exclusively organic activation of molecular oxygen and the subsequent oxidation of the aniline substrate. This allows the coupling of ubiquitous phenols, thus furnishing aminophenols through an atom-economical and most sustainable dehydrogenative amination method. This new reactivity, which relies on the intrinsic organic reactivity of cumene in what can be seen as a modified Hock activation process of oxygen, is expected to have a large impact on the formation of CN bonds in organic synthesis.

Abstract
The first synthesis of (±)-tetrapetalone A-Me aglycon is described. Key bond-forming reactions include Nazarov cyclization, a ring-closing metathesis promoted with complete diastereoselectivity by a chiral molybdenum-based complex, tandem conjugate reduction/intramolecular aldol cyclization, and oxidative dearomatization.

Abstract
The palladium-catalyzed silylation of aryl chlorides with silylsilatranes proceeds under activator-free conditions; hence, wide functional group compatibility is displayed and boryl and siloxy groups are able to survive. Experimental and computational studies revealed that smooth transmetalation from the silylsilatrane to the arylpalladium chloride is facilitated by strong interaction between the Lewis acidic silicon and the chloride.
