Abstract
Glutamicibacter arilaitensis is one of the predominant bacterial species involved in the coloration of cheese rinds, especially smear-ripened cheeses. Besides well-known yellow-pigmented carotenoids, this species exhibits an ability to produce red pigments, as the occurrence of pink/red formation was previously found when co-cultured with a fungal strain. In this work, the red pigments synthesized by G. arilaitensis strains grown on cheese-based (curd) solid medium deacidified using Debaryomyces hansenii were identified. The analyses using HPLC equipped with both fluorescence and diode array detectors were performed to characterize the pigments extracted from a dry matter of the medium inoculated with either G. arilaitensis Re117, Po102, or Stp101. Based on the UV–vis absorption spectra, the elution order, and fluorescent property, compared to those of the porphyrin standards, eight metal-free porphyrins, including UPI, UPIII, 7PI, 6PI, 5PI, CPI, CPIII, and MPIX, were indicated as components of the red pigments produced by these G. arilaitensis strains. However, following the chromatographic profiles, the degree of porphyrins formed by each strain was apparently different. Regardless of precise quantitative measurement, the type strains Re117 and Po102 manifested a potential to produce a high amount of CPIII, whereas MPIX was formed by the strains Po102 and Stp101, but exceptionally high by the strain Stp101. The variation in both yield and form of the red pigments synthesized by the cheese-related bacterial G. arilaitensis has not previously been reported; therefore, our results provide the first information on these aspects.

Abstract
For the first time, synthesis of bifunctional [2.2.2]-cryptands (CRYPT) and demonstration of radiolabeling with lead(II) (Pb2+) isotopes are disclosed herein. The synthesis is convenient and high-yielding and gives access to three distinct bifunctional handles (azide (-N3), isothiocyanate (-NCS), and tetrazine (-Tz)) that can enable the construction of radioimmunoconjugates for targeted and pretargeted therapy. Proof-of-principle CRYPT radiolabeling was successful with lead-203 ([203Pb]Pb2+) and demonstrated complexation efficiency superior to that of DOTA (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid) and efficiency comparable to that of the current industry standard TCMC (1,4,7,10-tetraaza-1,4,7,10-tetra-(2-carbamoylmethyl)-cyclododecane). In vitro human serum stability assays demonstrated excellent [203Pb]Pb-CRYPT stability over 72 h (91.7 ± 0.56%; n = 3). [203Pb]Pb-CRYPT-radioimmunoconjugates were synthesized from the corresponding CRYPT-immunoconjugate or by conjugating [203Pb]Pb-Tz-CRYPT to transcyclooctene modified trastuzumab (TCO-trastuzumab) via the inverse electron-demand Diels-Alder (IEEDA) reaction. This investigation reveals the potential for CRYPT ligands to become new industry standards for therapeutic and diagnostic radiometals in radiopharmaceutical elaboration.

Abstract
Quantum-chemical calculation of the molecular structures of potential isomeric (NNNN)- donoratomic macrocyclic tetradentate ligands, cis- and trans-di[benzo]porphyrazines, was carried out using the density functional theory (DFT) B3PW91/TZVP. It is noted that the first of these compounds can exist in four forms [so-called ([Formula: see text]-isomers], differing from each other by the mutual orientation of hydrogen atoms bonded to the nitrogen atoms, while the second compounds take the form of two similar isomers. The values of the most important bond lengths, bond and non-bond angles in each of these ([Formula: see text] -isomeric compounds, as well as the values of their relative energy, standard enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs energy of formation are presented. It was found that the most stable among both cis- and trans-di[benzo]porphyrazines is the ([Formula: see text]-isomer with the trans-orientation of hydrogen atoms bonded to nitrogen atoms, while the ([Formula: see text] -isomers with cis-oriented hydrogen atoms for both of these compounds had significantly higher relative energies.

Abstract
The direct laser writing technique based on two-photon polymerization (TPP) has evolved considerably over the past two decades. Its remarkable characteristics, such as 3D capability, sub-diffraction resolution, material flexibility, and gentle processing conditions, have made it suitable for several applications in photonics and biosciences. In this review, we present an overview of the progress of TPP towards the fabrication of functionalized microstructures, whispering gallery mode (WGM) microresonators, and microenvironments for culturing microorganisms. We also describe the key physical-chemical fundamentals underlying the technique, the typical experimental setups, and the different materials employed for TPP.

Abstract
The Knudsen effusion method with mass spectrometric control of the vapor composition was used to study the possibility of a congruent transition to the gas phase and to estimate the enthalpy of sublimation of metal-free tetrakis(1,2,5-thiadiazolo)porphyrazine and its nickel complex (H2TTDPz and NiTTDPz, respectively). The geometrical and electronic structure of H2TTDPz and NiTTDPz in ground and low-lying excited electronic states were determined by DFT calculations. The electronic structure of NiTTDPz was studied by the complete active space (CASSCF) method, following accounting dynamic correlation by multiconfigurational quasi-degenerate second-order perturbation theory (MCQDPT2). A geometrical structure of D2h and D4h symmetry was obtained for H2TTDPz and NiTTDPz, respectively. According to data obtained by the MCQDPT2 method, the nickel complex possesses the ground state 1A1g, and the wave function of the ground state has the form of a single determinant. Electronic absorption and vibrational (IR and resonance Raman) spectra of H2TTDPz and NiTTDPz were studied experimentally and simulated theoretically.

Abstract
Abstract
Plant-esterase (EC 3.1.1.X) has received much attention because plant esterase and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) share a similar sensitivity towards organophosphorus (OP) pesticides detection with the same inhibition mechanism. To improve the analytical performance, tetraphenyl metal porphyrin, as an indicator was introduced to combine with plant-esterase. The time of reach equilibrium in PBS solution was shortened after adding plant-esterase by assaying the intensify change of the porphyrin spectrum. Meanwhile, intensify of porphyrin spectrum with plant-esterase was increased compared with that of only the porphyrin spectrum in solution. Tetraphenyl metal porphyrin, such as cobalt(II) meso-tetraphenyl porphyrin, is a mixed reversible inhibitor of plant-esterase from kinetic parameters. The combination ratio of plant-esterase and porphyrin is 2:1. On the other hand, the interaction between CoTPPCl and plant-esterase is the strongest among all tested tetraphenyl metal porphyrin. And the mixed system (CoTPPCl-plant-esterase) showed the best sensitivity towards the tested pesticide. All these results indicated that a complex system composed of tetraphenyl metal porphyrin and plant-esterase was fit for detecting pesticides. They make meaningful guidance on the further design of sensing material in monitoring pesticides.

Abstract
Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a strong oxidant produced by myeloperoxidase. Previous work suggested that HOCl modifies the corrin ring of cobalamins to yield chlorinated species via mechanisms that are incompletely understood. Herein, we report a mechanistic study on the reaction between cyanocobalamin (CNCbl, vitamin B12) and HOCl. Under weakly acidic, neutral and weakly alkaline conditions, the reaction produces the c-lactone derivative of CNCbl chlorinated at the C10-position of corrin ring (C10-Cl-CNCbl-c-lactone). Formation of C10-Cl-CNCbl-c-lactone was not observed at pH ≥ 9.9. The chlorination of CNCbl by HOCl proceeds via two pathways involving one and two HOCl molecules: the reaction is initiated by the very fast formation of a complex between CNCbl and HOCl, which either undergoes slow transformation to chlorinated species, or rapidly reacts with a second HOCl molecule to produce C10-Cl-CNCbl. Subsequent reaction of C10-Cl-CNCbl with HOCl proceeds rapidly toward lactone ring formation by H-atom abstraction at position C8. This work uncovered mechanisms and products of the reaction of a biologically active and therapeutically used cobalamin, CNCbl and the endogenous oxidant HOCl. Binding and reactivity studies of C10-Cl-CNCbl and C10-Cl-CNCbl-c-lactone with relevant proteins of the cobalamin pathway and with cultured cells are necessary to elucidate the potential physiological effects of these species.

Abstract
Porphyrinic compounds are widespread in nature and play key roles in biological processes such as oxygen transport in blood, enzymatic redox reactions or photosynthesis. In addition, both naturally derived as well as synthetic porphyrinic compounds are extensively explored for biomedical and technical applications such as photodynamic therapy (PDT) or photovoltaic systems, respectively. Their unique electronic structures and photophysical properties make this class of compounds so interesting for the multiple functions encountered. It is therefore not surprising that optical methods are typically the prevalent analytical tool applied in characterization and processes involving porphyrinic compounds. However, a wealth of complementary information can be obtained from NMR spectroscopic techniques. Based on the advantage of providing structural and dynamic information with atomic resolution simultaneously, NMR spectroscopy is a powerful method for studying molecular interactions between porphyrinic compounds and macromolecules. Such interactions are of special interest in medical applications of porphyrinic photosensitizers that are mostly combined with macromolecular carrier systems. The macromolecular surrounding typically stabilizes the encapsulated drug and may also modify its physical properties. Moreover, the interaction with macromolecular physiological components needs to be explored to understand and control mechanisms of action and therapeutic efficacy. This review focuses on such non-covalent interactions of porphyrinic drugs with synthetic polymers as well as with biomolecules such as phospholipids or proteins. A brief introduction into various NMR spectroscopic techniques is given including chemical shift perturbation methods, NOE enhancement spectroscopy, relaxation time measurements and diffusion-ordered spectroscopy. How these NMR tools are used to address porphyrin-macromolecule interactions with respect to their function in biomedical applications is the central point of the current review.

Abstract
New coordination oligomers and polymers of Sn(IV)-tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin have been constructed by the chelation reaction of its diaxialphenolates with Cu2+. The structure and properties of the synthesized polyporphyrin arrays were investigated by 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR), Infra Red (IR), Ultra Violet - Visible (UV-Vis) and fluorescence spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, Powder X-Rays Diffraction (PXRD), Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), thermal gravimetric, elemental analysis, and quantum chemical calculations. The results show that the diaxial coordination of bidentate organic ligands (L-tyrazine and diaminohydroquinone) leads to the quenching of the tetrapyrrole chromophore fluorescence, while the chelation of the porphyrinate diaxial complexes with Cu2+ is accompanied by an increase in the fluorescence in the organo-inorganic hybrid polymers formed. The obtained results are of particular interest to those involved in creating new 'chemo-responsive' (i.e., selectively interacting with other chemical species as receptors, sensors, or photocatalysts) materials, the optoelectronic properties of which can be controlled by varying the number and connection type of monomeric fragments in the polyporphyrin arrays.

The obtained results are of particular interest to those involved in creating new ‘chemo-responsive’ (i.e., selectively interacting with other chemical species as receptors, sensors, or photocatalysts) materials, the optoelectronic properties of which can be controlled by varying the number and connection type of monomeric fragments in the polyporphyrin arrays.

Abstract
Bymeans of spectrophotometric titration and NMR spectroscopy, the selective binding ability ofthe Co(III)-5,15-bis-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-10,20-bis-(4-sulfophenyl)porphyrin (Со(III)Р1) andCo(III)-5,15-bis-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-10,20-bis-(4-sulfophenyl)porphyrin (Со(III)Р2) towards imidazole derivatives of various nature (imidazole (L1), metronidazole (L2), and histamine (L3)) in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) has been studied. It was found that in the case of L2, L3 the binding of the "first" ligand molecule by porphyrinatesCo(III)P1 and Co(III)P2 occurs with the formation of complexes with two binding sites (donor-acceptor bond at the center and hydrogen bond at the periphery of the macrocycle), while the "second" ligand molecule is added to the metalloporphyrin only due to the formation of the donor-acceptor bond at the macrocycle coordination center. The formation of stable complexes with two binding sites has been confirmed by density functional theory method (DFT) quantum chemical calculations and two-dimensional NMR experiments. It was shown that among the studied porphyrinates, Co(III)P2 is more selective towards to L1-L3 ligands, and localization of cobalt porphyrinates in cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) micelles does not prevent the studied imidazole derivatives reversible binding. The obtained materials can be used to develop effective receptors for recognition, delivery, and prolonged release of drug compounds to the sites of their functioning. Considering that cetylpyridinium chloride is a widely used cationic biocide as a disinfectant, the designed materials may also prove to be effective antimicrobial agents.

Abstract
Porphyrin derivatives accumulate selectively in cancer cells and are can be used as carriers of drugs. Until now, the substituents that bind to porphyrins (mainly at the meso-position) have been actively investigated, but the effect of the functional porphyrin positions (β-, meso-position) on tumor accumulation has not been investigated. Therefore, we investigated the correlation between the functional position of substituents and the accumulation of porphyrins in cancer cells using cancer cells. We found that the meso-derivative showed higher accumulation in cancer cells than the β-derivative, and porphyrins with less bulky substituent actively accumulate in cancer cells. When evaluating the intracellular distribution of porphyrin, we found that porphyrin was internalized by endocytosis and direct membrane permeation. As factors involved in these two permeation mechanisms, we evaluated the affinity between porphyrin-protein (endocytosis) and the permeability to the phospholipid bilayer membrane (direct membrane permeation). We found that the binding position of porphyrin affects the factors involved in the transmembrane permeation mechanisms and impacts the accumulation in cancer cells.

Abstract
The nucleophilic substitution of aromatic moieties (SNAr) has been known for over 150 years and found wide use for the functionalization of (hetero)aromatic systems. Currently, several "types" of SNAr reactions have been established and notably the area of porphyrinoid macrocycles has seen many uses thereof. Herein, we detail the SNAr reactions of seven types of porphyrinoids with differing number and type of pyrrole units: subporphyrins, norcorroles, corroles, porphyrins, azuliporphyrins, N-confused porphyrins, and phthalocyanines. For each we analyze the substitution dependent upon: a) the type of nucleophile and b) the site of substitution (α, β, or meso). Along with this we evaluate this route as a synthetic strategy for the generation of unsymmetrical porphyrinoids. Distinct trends can be identified for each type of porphyrinoid discussed, regardless of nucleophile. The use of nucleophilic substitution on porphyrinoids is found to often be a cost-effective procedure with the ability to yield complex substituent patterns, which can be conducted in non-anhydrous solvents with easily accessible simple porphyrinoids.

Abstract
Conjugated polymers (CPs) known as organic semiconductors have been broadly applied in photovoltaic and light emitting devices due to their easy fabrication and flexibility. However, one of the bottlenecks limiting the application of CPs is their poor photostability upon continuous excitation which is one of the crucial parameters of CPs. How to improve the photostability of CPs is always one of the key questions in this field. In this work, we found that the photostability of poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) molecules can be largely improved by addition of vitamin E (VE) in bulk solution, solid films and single molecules. In solution and films, VE can not only significantly retard the photodegradation of P3HT but also enhance the fluorescence intensity. For individual P3HT molecules, with increasing VE concentrations, the on-time duration increases and the off-time duration becomes shorter. VE as natural antioxidants can not only donate electrons to the long-lived charged species but also quench the triplet states of CPs via energy transfer accelerating the depopulation process back to the ground state. The short duration time of the charged species and the triplet states provides higher fluorescence intensity. Furthermore, VE can also directly react with singlet oxygen or other reactive oxygen species (ROS) preventing them from reacting with CPs. These results not only provide an efficient strategy for improving the photostability of conjugated polymers in solution and films, but also shed light on better understanding the photophysics of conjugated polymers at single-molecule level.

Abstract
The corrole ligand serves as a versatile tri-anionic, macrocyclic platform on which to model biological catalytic systems, as well as to effect mechanistically challenging chemical transformations. Here in we describe the synthesis, structure, and characterization of an isomerically pure corrole ligand, selectively mono-brominated at the β-carbon position adjacent to the corrole C-C bond (2-C) and produced in relatively high yields, as well as its iron chloride complex. Analysis of the iron metalated complex by cyclic voltammetry shows that the bromine being present on the ligand resulted in anodic shifts of +93 and +63 mV for first oxidation and first reduction of the complex respectively. The Mossbauer spectrum of the iron metalated complex shows negligible change relative to the non-brominated analog, indicating the presence of the halide substituent predominantly effects the orbitals of the ligand rather than the metal.

Abstract
Abstract Electronic and geometric structures of Y, La and Lu complexes with porphyrazine (Pz) and tetrakis(1,2,5-thiadiazole)porphyrazine (TTDPz) were investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations and compared. The nature of the bonds between metal atoms and nitrogen atoms has been described using the analysis of the electron density distribution in the frame of Bader’s quantum theory of atoms in molecule (QTAIM). Simulation and interpretation of electronic spectra were performed with use of time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations. Description of calculated IR spectra was carried out based on the analysis of the distribution of the potential energy of normal vibrations by natural vibrational coordinates. Abstract
The fundamental biological process of electron transfer (ET) takes place across proteins with common ET pathways of several nanometers. Recent discoveries push this limit and show long-range extracellular ET over several micrometers. Here, we aim in deciphering how protein-bound intramolecular cofactors can facilitate such long-range ET. In contrast to natural systems, our protein-based platform enables us to modulate important factors associated with ET in a facile manner, such as the type of the cofactor and its quantity within the protein. We choose here the biologically relevant protoporphyrin molecule as the electron mediator. Unlike natural systems having only Fe-containing protoporphyrins, i.e., heme, as electron mediators, we use here porphyrins with different metal centers, or lacking a metal center. We show that the metal redox center has no role in ET and that ET is mediated solely by the conjugated backbone of the molecule. We further discuss several ET mechanisms, accounting to our observations with possible contribution of coherent processes. Our findings contribute to our understanding of the participation of heme molecules in long-range biological ET.

Abstract
Based on the results of a quantum chemical calculation using the DFT method with the OPBE/TZVP and B3PW91/TZVP levels, the possibility of the existence of three cobalt heteroligand complexes containing in the inner coordination sphere porphyrazine, di[benzo]- and tetra[benzo]porphyrazine, and two oxygen (O2-) ions with probable oxidation state VI of Co, which is unknown for this element at the present time, was shown. Data on the structural parameters are presented. It was shown that CoN4 chelate nodes as well as all metal-chelate and non-chelate cycles in each of these complexes, were strictly planar. Besides, the bond angles formed by two donor nitrogen atoms and a Co atom were close or equal to 90°, while the bond angles formed by donor atoms N, Co, and O, in most cases, albeit insignificantly, differed from this value. Good agreement between the calculated data obtained using the above two versions of the DFT method was found. Standard thermodynamic parameters of formation (standard enthalpy ΔH0f, 298, entropy S0f, 298 and Gibbs's energy ΔG0f, 298) for the indicated complexes were presented too.

Abstract
This paper presents an in-depth chemical and analytical study of a natural substance extracted from Ammodaucus leucotrichus Coss. & Dur and its derivatives after hemisynthesis. The analysis was performed using Diffusion-Ordered Spectroscopy (NMR DOSY) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) as general methods. The results show an interesting chemical reactivity towards coumarin-derived bisnucleophiles (4-hydroxycoumarin and triacetic acid lactone), and products obtained by hemisynthesis of pyrano[4,3-b]pyrane derivatives following Knoevenagel condensation and Michael's addition on this natural substance with the use of 4-pyrolidinopyridine organobase as catalyst.

Abstract
We have developed site-selective bromination on the mesityl substituents of 10,20-dimesityl-5,15-diazaporphyrins. Treatment of 10,20-dimesityl-5,15-diazaporphyrin and its nickel(ii) complex with a combination of AuBr3/AgOTf induced selective bromination on the mesityl groups. These brominated products can be employed for late-stage modification of the aryl substituents.

Abstract
Synthesis and identification of tetrakis-[5,6-bis(4-tert-butylphenyl)pyrazino] porphyrazine, tetra-(4-tert-butyl)phthalocyanine and octakis-(4-tert-butylphenyl)porphyrazine were carried out. Spectrophotometric method was used to study the spectral, acidic and fluorescence properties of the synthesized compounds. It was determined that the synthesized tert-butyl-substituted porphyrazines exhibit a high sensitivity of fluorescence to the molecule ionization. To understand the features of the spectral properties the geometry optimization and an analysis of energy levels and localization of highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals of the studied compounds were performed on the basis of density functional theory with the BP86 functional and the def2-TZVP basis set. The effect of substituents in molecular fragments of the macrocycle on the acidic and electro-optical properties of the studied compounds is revealed. Materials with pH-tunable fluorescence were designed.
