Abstract
Reactions of magnesium(i) dimers with pinacolborane are complex, yielding many products (e.g. see picture). The results of this study bring into question mechanisms proposed for the magnesium(i) catalysed hydroboration of unsaturated substrates.

Rare examples of stable heterobimetallic Ca/Li and Ba/Li amido polymeric species, as well as an ate Ca/Li diphenylmethanide compound stable in ethers, have been structurally characterised. Intra- and intermolecular metal⋯H–Si interactions are shown to play a key role.

Abstract
Recent studies on boron carbonyl complexes show their intriguing structural and bonding properties, enriching our knowledge on main group coordination chemistry. The isolobal relationships between BCO and CH and the more generally applicable CO/H- and B-/C analogies are employed to understand the structure and bonding of boron carbonyl complexes, bridging the boron carbonyl chemistry to the well-known hydrocarbon analogues.

Abstract
Zirconium complexes stabilized by amine-bridged bis(phenolato) ligands showed good activity and chemo-selectivity in catalyzing intermolecular hydrophosphination of C-C multiple bonds with primary phosphines under mild conditions. A broad range of alkenes and alkynes underwent a mono-addition reaction with phenylphosphine, which generated secondary phosphines in 39-99% yields and >7 : 1 selectivity (over double hydrophosphination).

Abstract
Bimetallic lithium aluminates and neutral aluminum counterparts are compared as catalysts in hydroboration reactions with aldehydes, ketones, imines and alkynes. Possessing Li–Al cooperativity, ate catalysts are found to be generally superior. Catalytic activity is also influenced by the ligand set, alkyl and/or amido. Devoid of an Al−H bond, iBu2Al(TMP) operates as a masked hydride reducing benzophenone through a β‐Η transfer process. This catalyst library therefore provides an entry point into the future design of Al catalysts targeting substrate specific transformations.

Abstract
Cationic Lewis base-free β-diketiminate (BDI) complexes of Mg and Ca have been isolated as their B(C6F5)4- salts. The cation (BDI)Mg+ shows an extraordinarily strong Lewis acidity that can compete with strong Lewis acids like B(C6F5)3 and (BDI)AlMe+. Its highly electrophilic nature is exemplified by isolation of an 3-hexyne adduct.

Abstract
Reaction of the dimeric β-diketiminato magnesium hydride [(BDI)MgH]2 (BDI = HC{(Me)CN-2,6-i-Pr2C6H3}2) with bis-pinacolatodiborane (B2pin2) resulted in B-O bond activation and formation of a magnesium complex of an unusual borylborohydride anion. In contrast, similar treatment of the mononuclear organomagnesium [{BDI}Mg(n-Bu)] with 4,4,4',4',6,6'-hexamethyl-2,2'-bi(1,3,2-dioxaborinane) (B2hex2) provided a B(sp2)-B(sp3) diborane anion, [(hex)BB(n-Bu)(hex)]-, with a constitution which is analogous to that formed in the previously reported reaction with bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2pin2). Subsequent addition of 4-dimethylaminopyridine to a solution of this compound induced alkylborane displacement and provided a magnesium boryl derivative containing a terminal Mg-B(hex) interaction (Mg-B 2.319(3) Å), a result which reinforces the generality of this approach for the synthesis of boryl anions by B-B bond heterolysis. Further studies of the reactivity of the initially formed B(sp2)-B(sp3) anions with diborane small molecules also resulted in alkylborane displacement and the production of triboron anions, which are propagated by contiguous and electron precise (2c-2e) B-B-B interactions.

Abstract
Imine-to-amine conversion with catalytic instead of stoichiometric quantities of LiAlH4 is demonstrated (85 °C, catalyst loading≥2.5 mol %, pressure≥1 bar). The effects of temperature, pressure, solvent, and catalyst modifications, as well as the substrate scope are discussed. Experimental investigations and preliminary DFT calculations suggest that the catalytically active species is generated in situ: LiAlH4 +Ph(H)C=NtBu→LiAlH2 [N(tBu)CH2 Ph]2 . A cooperative mechanism in which Li and Al both play a prominent role is proposed.

Abstract
The electrophilic aromatic substitution of a C-H bond of benzene is one of the archetypal transformations of organic chemistry. In contrast, the electron-rich π-system of benzene is highly resistant to reactions with electron-rich and negatively charged organic nucleophiles. Here, we report that this previously insurmountable electronic repulsion may be overcome through the use of sufficiently potent organocalcium nucleophiles. Calcium n-alkyl derivatives-synthesized by reaction of ethene, but-1-ene, and hex-1-ene with a dimeric calcium hydride-react with protio and deutero benzene at 60°C through nucleophilic substitution of an aromatic C-D/H bond. These reactions produce the n-alkyl benzenes with regeneration of the calcium hydride. Density functional theory calculations implicate an unstabilized Meisenheimer complex in the C-H activation transition state.
