Abstract
In this work, we develop a novel environmentally friendly strategy toward one-pot synthesis of CuS nanoparticle-decorated reduced graphene oxide (CuS/rGO) nanocomposites with the use of L-cysteine, an amino acid, as a reducing agent, sulfur donor, and linker to anchor CuS nanoparticles onto the surface of rGO sheets. Upon visible light illumination (λ > 400 nm), the CuS/rGO nanocomposites show pronounced enhanced photocurrent response and improved photocatalytic activity in the degradation of methylene blue (MB) compared to pure CuS. This could be attributed to the efficient charge transport of rGO sheets and hence reduced recombination rate of excited carriers.

Abstract
Reduced-graphene oxide (rGO) sheets have been functionalized by covalently linking β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) cavities to the sheets via an amide linkage. The functionalized β-CD:rGO sheets, in contrast to rGO, are dispersible over a wide range of pH values (2-13). Zeta potential measurements indicate that there is more than one factor responsible for the dispersibility. We show here that planar aromatic molecules adsorbed on the rGO sheet as well as nonplanar molecules included in the tethered β-CD cavities have their fluorescence effectively quenched by the β-CD:rGO sheets. The β-CD:rGO sheets combine the hydrophobicity associated with rGO along with the hydrophobicity of the cyclodextrin cavities in a single water-dispersible material.

Abstract
The unique combination of high surface area, high electrical conductivity and robust mechanical integrity has attracted great interest in the use of graphene sheets for future electronics applications. Their potential applications for high-power energy storage devices, however, are restricted by the accessible volume, which may be only a fraction of the physical volume, a consequence of the compact geometry of the stack and the ion mobility. Here we demonstrated that remarkably enhanced power delivery can be realized in graphene papers for the use in Li-ion batteries by controlled generation of in-plane porosity via a mechanical cavitation-chemical oxidation approach. These flexible, holey graphene papers, created via facile microscopic engineering, possess abundant ion binding sites, enhanced ion diffusion kinetics, and excellent high-rate lithium-ion storage capabilities, and are suitable for high-performance energy storage devices.

Abstract
Herein, a novel Pluronic F127/graphene nanosheet (PF127/GN) hybrid was prepared via an one-pot process including the simultaneous reduction of graphene oxide and assembly of PF127 and GN. The nanohybrid exhibits high water dispersibility and stability in physiological environment with the hydrophilic chains of PF127 extending to the solution while the hydrophobic segments anchoring at the surface of graphene via hydrophobic interaction. The PF127/GN nanohybrid is found to be capable of effectively encapsulating doxorubicin (DOX) with ultrahigh drug-loading efficiency (DLE; 289%, w/w) and exhibits a pH responsive drug release behavior. The superb DLE of the PF127/GN nanohybrid relies on the introduction of GN which is structurally compatible with DOX. Cellular toxicity assays performed on human breast cancer MCF-7 cells demonstrate that the PF127/GN nanohybrid displays no obvious cytotoxicity, whereas the PF127/GN-loaded DOX (PF127/GN/DOX) shows remarkable cytotoxicity to the MCF-7. Cell internalization study reveals that PF127/GN nanohybrid facilitates the transfer of DOX into MCF-7 cells, evidenced by the image of confocal laser scanning microscopy. The above results indicate the potential application of this novel nanocarrier in biomedicine.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) as a powerful analytical tool has gained extensive attention. Despite of many efforts in the design of SERS substrates, it remains a grand challenge for creating a general substrate that can detect diverse target analytes. Herein, we report our attempt to address this issue by constructing a novel metal-graphene oxide nanostructured film as SERS substrate. Taking advantages of the high affinity of graphene oxide (GO) toward aromatic molecules and the SERS property of nanostructured metal, this structure exhibits great potential for diverse aromatic molecules sensing, which is demonstrated by using crystal violet (CV) with positive charge, amaranth with negative charge, and neutral phosphorus triphenyl (PPh(3)) as model molecules.

Abstract
Graphene, a one-atom layer of graphite, possesses a unique two-dimensional structure and excellent mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties. Thus, it has been regarded as an important component for making various functional composite materials. Graphene can be prepared through physical, chemical and electrochemical approaches. Among them, chemical methods were tested to be effective for producing chemically converted graphene (CCG) from various precursors (such as graphite, carbon nanotubes, and polymers) in large scale and at low costs. Therefore, CCG is more suitable for synthesizing high-performance graphene based composites. In this progress report, we review the recent advancements in the studies of the composites of CCG and small molecules, polymers, inorganic nanoparticles or other carbon nanomaterials. The methodology for preparing CCG and its composites has been summarized. The applications of CCG-based functional composite materials are also discussed.

Abstract
This paper demonstrated for the first time a simple wet-chemical strategy for synthesizing hemin-graphene hybrid nanosheets (H-GNs) through the π-π interactions. Significantly, this new material possesses the advantages of both hemin and graphene and exhibits three interesting properties. First, H-GNs have intrinsic peroxidase-like activity, which can catalyze the reaction of peroxidase substrate, due to the existence of hemin on the graphene surface. Second, their dispersion follow the 2D Schulze-Hardy rule, that is to say, the coagulation of H-GNs in electrolyte solution results from the interplay between van der Waals attraction and electric double-layer repulsion. Third, H-GNs exhibit the ability to differentiate ss- and ds-DNA in optimum electrolyte concentration, owing to the different affinities of ss- and ds-DNA to the H-GNs. On the basis of these unique properties of the as-prepared H-GNs, we have developed a label-free colorimetric detection system for single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in disease-associated DNA. To our knowledge, this is the first report concerning on SNPs detection using functionalized graphene nanosheets. Owing to its easy operation and high specificity, it was expected that the proposed procedure might hold great promise in the pathogenic diagnosis and genetic diseases.
