Abstract
The strength and shape of the dose-response relationship between different types of noise and myocardial infarction (MI) remain unclear. Therefore, we aimed to summarize the evidence of the association between various types of noise and MI incidence and mortality through a dose-response meta-analysis. We performed a systematic search of the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases up to December 19, 2021. The generalized least-squares method and restricted cubic splines were used to assess the potential linear and nonlinear dose-response relationships between noise exposure and the risk of MI events. Twenty observational studies with 34 reports met the eligibility criteria. In the linear models, the pooled relative risk and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) for MI incidence was 1.04 (95% CI: 1.02 - 1.05), and the MI mortality was 1.02 (95% CI: 1.02 - 1.03) for each 10 dB(A) increase in noise exposure. In addition, we observed an approximately J-shaped dose-response relationship between noise and MI mortality (Pnonlinearity = 0.0037), whereas the threshold for the statistical impact of noise on MI mortality may be 42 dB(A). Our findings support the notion that various types of noise exposure have a positive dose-response relationship with the risk of MI incidence and mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Blood pressure (BP) control was only 43.7% in the National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES) survey in 2017-2018. Scalable, nonclinic-based strategies to control BP are needed. We therefore conducted a pilot trial of a text-messaging intervention in a national network of retail outlet health kiosks with BP devices. All study procedures were conducted remotely. METHODS Eligible individuals (N = 140), based on average BP greater than or equal to 140/90 mm Hg at kiosks during the prior year, were randomized to intervention vs. usual care. Intervention consisted of tailored text messages providing educational information with embedded links to educational videos on topics related to BP control. BP measurements were obtained at kiosks at 3, 6, and 12 months following randomization; control was defined as BP < 140/90 mm Hg. Follow-up at 12 months was curtailed due to SARS-CoV-2. We therefore combined 12-month (N = 62) or carried forward 6-month (N = 61) data as the primary end point. RESULTS Participants were 51.4% male, 70.7% white/Caucasian, had mean age of 52.1 years, and mean baseline BP 145.5/91.8 mm Hg. At the end point, 37.7% intervention vs. 27.4% usual care subjects achieved BP control (difference, 10.3%, 95% confidence interval -6.2%, 26.8%). In an intention-to-treat analysis with multiple imputation of missing data, 12-month BP control was 29.0% vs. 19.8% favoring intervention (difference, 9.2%. 95% confidence interval -7.3%, 25.7%); intervention vs. control differences in adjusted mean BP levels were systolic BP: -5.4 mm Hg (95% confidence interval: -13.5, 2.7) and diastolic BP: +0.6 mm Hg (95% confidence interval: -4.2, 5.4). CONCLUSIONS These pilot results support the potential for a highly scalable text-messaging intervention to improve BP. CLINICAL TRIALS REGISTRATION Trial Number NCT03515681.

Abstract
Background: Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) proteins modify proteins through SUMOylation as an essential protein post-translational modification (PTM) for regulating redox status, inflammation, and cardiac fibrosis in myocardial infarction. This study aimed to investigate whether natural product puerarin could alleviate myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MI-RI) by targeting protein SUMOylation. Methods: Mouse MI-RI model was induced by ligating the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery and subsequently treated with puerarin at the dose of 100 mg/kg. Rat cardiomyocyte H9c2 cells were challenged by hypoxia/reoxygenation and treated with puerarin at concentrations of 10, 20, and 40 μM. The infarction area of mouse hearts was assessed by 2% TTC staining. Cell damage was analyzed for the release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in serum and cell culture medium. Western blot technique was employed to detect the expression of SUMO2, phospho-ERK, pro-inflammatory biomarker COX2, fibrosis index galectin-3, apoptosis-related protein cleaved PARP-1. The activation of the estrogen receptor (ER) pathway was assayed by the dual-luciferase reporter system. Results: The present study validated that puerarin effectively reduced myocardial infarct size and LDH release in the mouse MI-RI model. In the cell culture system, puerarin effectively decreased the release of LDH and the protein level of COX2, galectin-3, and cleaved PARP-1. Mechanistic studies revealed that puerarin increased the expression of SUMO2, SUMOylation of proteins and the activation of ER/ERK pathway in cardiomyocytes. ER, ERK and SUMO2 inhibitors attenuated the cardioprotective effects of puerarin. Conclusion: Puerarin may alleviate myocardial injury by promoting protein SUMOylation through ER/ERK/SUMO2-dependent mechanism.
