Abstract
Hydrometrocolpos is a rare condition in which the uterus and the vagina are grossly distended with a retained fluid other than pus or blood. It may present during the neonatal period or later at puberty. Most cases reported earlier were stillbirths and were diagnosed only on autopsy. Antenatal diagnosis is now possible with the advent of ultrasound. An early diagnosis and speedy management is the key to survival. Many previous case reports have focused on the varied clinical presentations, multiple causes, associated syndromes and/or the radiological diagnosis of this condition. However, management options for different types of hydrometrocolpos have not yet been concisely discussed. We have reviewed the literature and tried to summarize the management options applicable to most case scenarios of hydrometrocolpos.

Abstract
We report the case of a female neonate with ipsilateral renal agenesis and uterus didelphys with blind hemivagina, also known as Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich (HWW) syndrome. Prenatal sonography revealed the absence of the left kidney and a retrovesical cystic lesion suspected as hydrometrocolpos. Postnatal evaluation confirmed that the cystic lesion was a hydrocolpos associated with double uterus and blind hemivagina (HWW syndrome). HWW syndrome can be suspected prenatally if a retrovesical cystic lesion is detected in a female fetus with unilateral absence of kidney.

Abstract
Objects: Progressive skin necrosis of giant occipital encephalocoele is an extremely rare complication found in neonates. Infection and ulceration of the necrosed skin may lead to meningitis or sepsis. We present here a neonate with giant occipital encephalocoele showing progressive necrosis during the first day of his life. Methods: A newborn baby was found to have a huge mass in the occipital region, which was covered by normal pink-purplish skin. During the last hours of the first day of his life, the sac started becoming ulcerated accompanied with a rapid color change in the skin, gradually turning darker and then black. The neonate was taken up for urgent excision and repair of the encephalocele. Two years after the operation, he appears to be well-developed without any neurological problems. Conclusion: Necrosis may have resulted from arterial or venous compromise caused by torsion of the pedicle during delivery or after birth. The high pressure inside the sac associated with the thin skin of the encephalocoele may be another predisposing factor. In view of the risk of ulceration and subsequent infection, urgent surgery of the necrotizing encephalocele is suggested.

Abstract
Fetuses with neural tube defects (NTDs) may suffer from associated syndromes and disorders. This article provides a comprehensive review of the syndromes and disorders associated with NTDs, including Pallister-Hall syndrome, Walker-Warburg syndrome and Fukuyama congenital muscular dystrophy, MURCS association, Roberts syndrome, cerebro-costo-mandibular syndrome, laterality sequences, hydrolethalus syndrome, Knobloch syndrome, oculoauriculovertebral spectrum (hemifacial microsomia), cervico-oculo-acoustic syndrome, Fanconi anemia, Miller-Dieker lissencephaly syndrome, Fraser syndrome, frontonasal dysplasia, Adams-Oliver syndrome, CHILD syndrome, dyssegmental dysplasia, and monozygotic twinning. NTDs associated with these syndromes and disorders are a rare but important cause of NTDs. The risk of NTDs in subsequent fetuses and the preventive effect of maternal folic acid intake in NTDs associated with syndromes and disorders may be different from those of nonsyndromic multifactorial NTDs. Perinatal diagnosis of NTDs should alert doctors to the syndromes and disorders associated with NTDs, and prompt thorough etiologic investigation and genetic counseling.

Abstract
The MURCS association [Müllerian Duct aplasia or hypoplasia (M), unilateral renal agenesis (UR) and cervicothoracic somite dysplasia (CS)] manifests itself as Müllerian Duct aplasia or hypoplasia, unilateral renal agenesis and cervicothoracic somite dysplasia. We report on a 22-year-old woman with bicornuate uterus, right renal agenesis, C2-C3 vertebral fusion (MURCS association) and 22q11.2 deletion. Angio-MRI revealed the aberrant origin of arch arteries. Hashimoto thyroiditis, micropolycystic ovaries with a dermoid cyst in the right ovary and mild osteoporosis were also diagnosed. Accurate revision of radiographs enabled us also to identify thoracolumbar and lumbosacral vertebral-differentiation defects. Audiometry and echocardiogram were normal. Bone densitometry showed osteoporosis. As per our evaluation, the patient had short stature, obesity (BMI 30.7) and facial features suggestive of the 22q11 deletion syndrome. Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification analysis showed a de-novo 22q11.2 deletion confirmed by array-comparative genomic hybridization analysis. We discuss whether this is a casual association or whether it is an additional syndrome owing to the well known phenotype extensive variability of the 22q11 deletion syndrome.

Abstract
We report a 15-year-old girl with features of the MURCS (Mullerian abnormalities, renal agenesis/ectopy and cervicothoracic somite dysplasia) association and birth defects not typically associated with MURCS. In addition to seizures and intellectual disability, she has cortical brain heterotopia, bilateral subclinical cataracts, submucous cleft palate and patent ductus arteriosus. We propose that this patient represents a more severe form of MURCS, or 'MURCS-plus', which may represent a defect of or insult to mesodermal morphogenesis.

Abstract
Individuals with holoprosencephaly (HPE) and limb reduction defects have been ascribed historically to a variety of syndromes with overlapping phenotypic features. As such, these patients are challenges for clinicians and researchers alike. In an effort to better understand this association, we reviewed our autopsy records and identified five cases of HPE with reduction defects of the limbs and other anomalies. One case appears to be the third reported instance of Steinfeld syndrome, while others represent microgastria-limb reduction sequence, VATER/VACTERL association, and an additional unique condition characterized by HPE, rhombencephalosynapsis, absent left radius, first metacarpal, and thumb, and congenital heart disease. The phenotypic heterogeneity inherent in these patients continues to complicate diagnosis, which will hopefully be simplified by continuing delineation at morphologic and especially genetic levels.

Abstract
MURCS association includes Mullerrian duct aplasia-hypoplasia (MU), renal malformations (R) and cervicothoracic somite dysplasia (CS). This rare disease (1/50 000 females) is sporadic and of unknown aetiology. The reported case is the first one with additional esophageal atresia and ovarian mature teratoma. Esophageal atresia first led to the diagnosis of VACTERL association, which is more frequent and well known, showing that the identification of such malformative association may be challenging. The presence of mullerrian abnormality has allowed the diagnosis of MURCS association, as there is no mullerrian hypoplasia in VACTERL association. Therefore the association of isolated or combined renal and cervical malformation with VACTERL features should lead to the search for mullerrian abnormalities.

Abstract
We report on four infants with hypoplastic thumbs and occipital encephaloceles. None had either a chromosome abnormality or a family history of any major malformation. The literature and database were searched intensively. No similar cases were reported previously, suggesting that the constellations might represent a new genetic syndrome.

Abstract
Phenotypic manifestations of the autosomal recessive form of VACTERL-hydrocephaly syndrome (David-O'Callaghan syndrome) and the X-linked recessive form (Hunter-MacMurray) syndrome are almost identical. The absence of cardiovascular malformations in cases with undoubtedly X-linked inheritance may be the only exception. The comparison of patients with David-O'Callaghan syndrome and nonclassified sporadic cases of VACTERL-hydrocephaly showed two marked differences. First, radial involvement (usually bilateral) occurred in all familial but only in 22 of 36 sporadic cases. Therefore, radial noninvolvement may be evidence against a genetic origin of the complex in a sporadic case. Second, predominantly severe forms of cardiovascular malformations were found in cases of David-O'Callaghan syndrome, whereas in sporadic cases almost all cardiovascular malformations were simple defects with minimal, if any, hemodynamic disturbances. The similarity of the spectrum and frequency of main manifestations of David-O'Callaghan and von Voss-Cherstvoy syndromes allows us to think that both of these syndromes actually might be 2 forms of one genetic entity. There are some syndromes with abnormalities of the brain (different for each syndrome) sharing the same limb defects (mainly preaxial), congenital heart defects, abnormalities of kidneys, and anal atresia/ectopia. Baller-Gerold syndrome, Steinfeld syndrome, XK-aprosencephaly, and DK-phocomelia (von Voss-Cherstvoy) syndrome as well as Mendelian forms of VACTERL-hydrocephaly syndromes fit into this "cerebro-cardio-radio-reno-rectal community."

Abstract
We report on a 25 year old woman with aplasia of the Müllerian duct, unilateral renal agenesis, and anomalies of the cervicothoracic somites (MURCS association). Growth retardation and facial asymmetry were also present. A review of published reports allows MURCS association to be distinguished from related associations, sequences, and syndromes. Moreover, sporadic occurrence, the broad spectrum of associated anomalies, and the involvement of different organ systems closely related in early embryogenesis are arguments for considering MURCS association as the consequence of a developmental field defect.
